i dont even know where to start that fergus list is hilarious. no cleopatra but absolutely yang gufei and tomoe so specifically being married isnt an issue. no nero because her vibes are so cursed that fergus can sense the potential trainwreck a mile away but tamamo is fine. astolfo is always included in the 'female looking' category so them being absent here means fergus would not fuck astolfo (especially since caenis is included here). a good chunk of women who would murder him without a second thought are there but perfectly nice charlotte corday is where he draws the line because she's the first in a long time to instill the fear of death in him. nitocris and sheba are fair game for animal ear girls but NO suzuka. he would fuck quetz and martha and astraea but not himiko meaning theres a certain degree of violent holy woman he would just not survive. regular medea and summer wu are included but no medea lily or regular wu and yet also helena is here so i GUESS he can just sense if someone is like mentally mature? which means he also specifically just does not like shuten. so many of these servants are incredible red flags for any sort of physical or romantic relationship but fergus mac roich would fucking die before he has any sort of lust for everyones friend sei shonagon

So Yang Gufei is a Foreigner Servant.  Me and some buds were trying to figure with which Lovecraft entity it was with.    The fire attacks made Cthugha a safe bet, but the Blue Eyes were throwing us for a loop.    Fthaggua?   Vthyarilops?  But fortunately, the translation of her Noble Phantasm cleared that up.  Fomalhaut.  Which isn’t a Lovecraft entity at all, but the blue star that Cthugha is associated with.
The blue star that New Scientist magazine referred as “The Great Eye of Sauron” because of the dust ring around it.

Yang Gufei’s Valentine’s Scene
Out of the 29 new Valentine’s scenes I unlocked this year Yang Gufei’s was surprisingly my favorite. A character released on New Year’s with no story or side story inclusion. All she’s gotten up to this point was a Challenge Quest that implied that she likes Hot Springs. She’s a fun unit to use, but I wasn’t expecting more than a standard V-Day scene. Then her fire spirits started talking (complete with crackling fire noises) and I realized I was in for something interesting.
Tumblr media
Yang’s Valentine’s scene is one of those that delivers lore and exploration of the character in question. It starts pretty normal. She comes and gives us a gift for Valentine’s Day. While we’re accepting it, we hear the Fire Spirits at the edge of our hearing, and she mentions how they’re actually the spirits of her attendants from the Imperial Palace. So, they can talk and have their own personalities, although we shouldn’t try too hard to hear them because that could drive us mad. With that she gives us a chocolate flavored Hot Springs Manyju. She’d purposefully tried to make something from Japan since it’s where the Player Character is from, which is a fun amount of conscientiousness to characterize her with. When we eat the Manyju they’re...perfectly fine. Neither good nor bad. With the gift given, she leaves, and we go back to our room.
In our room we get a knock on our door. It’s Yang’s fire spirits, without her. They greet us, hand over some more Manyju and start spilling her secrets.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There’s a lot of fun dialogue options in this interlude Valentine’s Scene. The PC is very chatty, which is funny because most of the time we’re talking to either the fire spirits or to ourselves. We eat the Manyju, and they are rock your world amazing. Complete with fireworks.
Tumblr media
The Fire Spirits talk up Yang and start to spill the beans. She’d made the perfect Manyju first with their help, then went and made the okay Manyju afterwards to give to you. Side note: this Valentine’s scene makes great use of being voiced and sound effects. Hearing her varying tones, and the crackling of the Fire Spirits really helps the story. Then we hear a faint, shrill scream from down the hallway and the sound of someone absolutely booking it down the hallway. I had to pause I was laughing so hard. I paused on the running sound effect which kept going. Which meant I laughed even longer. Yang busts into the room realizing what her attendants had done. She then switches into doom mode and attempts to incinerate you both to hide her embarrassment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We’re promptly saved by Chaldea’s very impressive sprinkler system. We head into the cafeteria and have a heart to heart. Yang works hard at things, but she’s also almost supernatural in her results. And that’s set her apart from everyone else. And when at the Imperial Palace she was attended to and unable to do anything herself. So, for Valentine’s she really just wanted to do something simple and normal. To take this second chance at living to do the things normal people did. In a normal way. It’s a very introspective scene and the PC has a lot of inner thoughts through the whole thing.
Tumblr media
While Yang is having her existential crisis, we stop her mid panic. And then we get some of my favorite character options in the game. We get to just hype ourselves up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s a great scene because we basically go, “we know how impressive and perfect you are. We’re equally fantastic, maybe more, and we can handle you as a Servant. There’s no need to worry about your beauty or talent being a curse that brings down Chaldea or ruin to us, we can handle it. You have nothing to fear with us.” I’m a sucker for the times that the player character gets to be more active and interactive with our Servants and the other characters, so this was a perfect Valentine’s scene for me as an audience. Maybe it’s because she was one of the last chocolates I’d gotten (including Lambda either disintegrating or locking me up) so Yang’s minor clinginess here managed to come off as cute.
Tumblr media
It’s always a nice treat when these Valentine’s scenes go into the Servant’s personality, backstory, relationships with others, abilities and traits. They don’t need to to be good, but it helps for me. Yang Guifei’s scene hits many of those buttons and is just a genuinely hilarious story that took advantage of the technical abilities of being voiced and having interactive options for the players to make use of. Plus, it’s got great emotional moments. A+ scene, looking forward to her interlude in a few years.

In this edition of "Ribon manga joho", the artists answer a reader question: "What do you think you were before you were reincarnated?" (All these reincarnation questions may seem strange to people from non-Buddhist cultural spheres, but they're fairly common topics of small talk in Japan.) Kusunoki Kei jokes that she's so beautiful, she must have been Yang Gufei or Cleopatra or Helen of Troy in her previous life, and while this is a joke (Kusunoki's self portrait is usually a dude, so she's playing on the contrast here), Kusunoki and her manga artist sister Ohashi Kaoru actually do look like Showa era idols and also released a music album.
Okada Amin angsts that she might have been an iguana in a previous life because she loves fruit so much, looks like a reptilian, and loves dark places, while Yazawa Ai jokes that she's a "single-celled organism" (Japanese insult for someone who doesn't think things through) so she must have been an amoeba.

I’m continuing with my The Longest Day in Chang'an history spam (previous posts: 1, 2)
This time I’d like to talk about Crown Prince Li Yu (historical Li Heng, Emperor Suzong) and his relationship with Right Chancellor Lin Jiulang (historical Li Linfu).
While watching The Longest Day in Chang'an I thought the enmity between the Crown Prince and the Right Chancellor in this show was greatly exaggerated for the sake of drama.
In fact it wasn’t. At all.
The third son of Emperor Xuanzong, Li Heng was raised by childless Empress Wang. By 744 when the events of The Longest Day in Chang'an take place, Empress Wang had already been demoted (due to machinations of Xuanzong’s favorite consort, Wu-huifei) and dead (unclear if by suicide or by natural causes - she died very soon after the demotion). Li Heng’s biological mother, Consort Yang, also died (btw, when she was pregnant with Li Heng, Xuanzong wanted to abort the child, but was dissuaded). For Li Heng that meant that had no support in the Imperial harem.
Xuanzong wanted to make his much-beloved Consort Wu the new empress. Alas - Consort Wu belonged to the same clan as the only female emperor, Wu Zetian, whose reign ended not long ago. All the ministers were vehemently against the idea of Empress Wu v2.0, and Xuanzong eventually had to back down.
Consort Wu failed to become empress - it didn’t mean she didn’t have other ambitions. She formed an alliance with Li Linfu (Lin Jiulang in the dorama): she persuaded Xuanzong to appoint Li Linfu as the right chancellor (prime minister), and in turn, Li Linfu promised to make her son, Li Mao, the crown prince.
There is a well-known Chinese idiom 口蜜腹剑 “in the mouth -  honey, in the belly - sword” which means a double-faced and treacherous person, basically an equivalent of “Juda’s kiss”. Initially this phrase was used to describe Li Linfu’s personality by one of his contemporaries.
Consort Wu and Li Linfu started by framing three Xuanzong’s sons including the current Crown Prince Li Ying. Consort Wu sent them a message saying that bandits attacked the palace and asking for help. When the princes hurriedly came - in armor and with weapons - they were accused of treason and emperor assassination attempt. The three princes were demoted to commoners and ordered to commit suicide (their wives were executed as well.) Xuanzong killed three of his sons in one day - not sure if it’s a record but still.
It seemed that Li Mao was one step from becoming the new crown prince. However, soon after that Consort Wu fell ill: she was haunted by the souls of the executed princes (or, more likely, by her guilty conscience). Consort Wu made sacrifices to the princes’ souls - it didn’t help, and eventually she died. Xuanzong posthumously honored her as Empress under the name Zhenshun 貞順 ("virtuous and obedient”).
After Consort Wu’s death Xuanzong was inconsolable. At least for some time. Until his trusted eunuch Gao Lishi (Guo Lishi in the dorama) arranged an “accident“: Xuanzong saw his daughter-in-law Yang Yuhuan, who at that moment was leaving the bathing pool. Xuanzong immediately fell in love with her. (Yang Yuhuan - future Yang-guifei, one of the Four Legendary Beauties of China; in The Longest Day in Chang'an she is called Taizhen - by her Daoist name.)
When appointing the new crown prince, Xuanzong hesitated for a long time - almost for a year: he couldn’t decide between Li Heng and Li Mao. Li Mao was a son of his beloved woman, and had many supporters among high-ranking officials and members of the imperial family.
However, it’s precisely because Li Mao had such strong support that Xuanzong was wary of making him the crown prince. Xuanzong himself came to power after two bloody coups and by dethroning his father-emperor, so suffering his father’s fate was probably his worst nightmare. He even built a “Ten Princes’ Residence” for his sons in a far away corner of Chang’an, where all princes lived together under a constant surveillance, in a sort of a luxurious prison. Their contacts with state officials were forbidden under a death penalty in order to prevent princes from getting their own power base at court.
Finally (as they say, by Gao Lishi’s advice), Xuanzong chose the older of the two candidates - Li Heng. (Btw, Yang Yuhuan was Li Mao’s wife. Was it one of the reasons why Xuanzong finally appointed Li Heng, not Li Mao, the crown prince? If so, then bravo, Gao Lishi!)
By his natural qualities, Li Heng seemed perfect for the crown prince position: The Old History of Tang describes him as benevolent, smart and studious, with a very good memory. He was tall and graceful, and was said to resemble the Tang dynasty co-founder, Emperor Taizong.
However, being a crown prince during the Early Tang was a dangerous occupation with survival rate less than 50%: out of 13 crown princes only 5 lived to become the emperor, and most of them came to power through coups and violent struggle. Li Heng was the 14th.
On Xuanzong’s orders, Li Heng several times changed his name: Li Sisheng, Li Jun, Li Yu (this is his name in the dorama), Li Shao, and, finally, Li Heng.
There is an unpleasant story related to this: after Li Heng (Li Yu at that time) was promoted to crown prince his name was changed to Li Shao 绍. However, during the Liu-Song dynasty a crown prince named Liu Shao 绍 killed his father-emperor and seized the throne. Oops. Xuanzong was reminded about this story and changed his son’s name again - to Li Heng. And didn’t change anymore. But apparently, it made suspicious Xuanzong prejudiced against Li Heng.
After Consort Wu’s death Li Linfu continued to plot against Li Heng: he had already antagonized himself with the prince - if Li Heng came to power he would inevitably take revenge on Li Linfu. So Li Linfu tried very hard to prevent it. (Was it Li Linfu‘s idea to suggest such an unfortunate name for Li Heng, I wonder?)
In 746 Li Heng had to divorce his wife, Lady Wei, after Li Linfu accused her brother Wei Jian and general Huangfu Weiming of the attempt to form an alliance with the Crown Prince in order to depose the Emperor and to put Li Heng on the throne. Huangfu Weiming, Wei Jian with his brothers, as well as other people were executed or ordered to commit suicide, and many officials lost their positions. Left Chancellor Li Shizhi killed himself out of fear. Lady Wei was demoted to a commoner and forced to become a nun.
Even after Wei Jian's death, Li Linfu was still angry at the Wei family and continued to pursue people accused of being Wei Jian's associates and torture them, until Li Linfu's later death in 752.
Then in the same 746 year the father of Li Heng’s favorite concubine was falsely accused of witchcraft. Li Linfu supported this accusation. As a result, the concubine’s father and some other people who were close to Li Heng were beaten by canes to death. The concubine was demoted to a commoner and expelled.
In 747 Li Linfu launched another campaign against Li Heng. He engaged Yang Guozhong (Yang-gufei’s cousin and the future Right Chancellor) to falsely accuse people with connections to Li Heng, hoping to find a way to implicate Li Heng in improprieties. Yang Guozong was therefore able to use this opportunity to destroy several hundreds of households.
Then highly successive general Wang Zhongsi (whose daughter Wang Yunxiu gets kidnapped in the dorama) was accused of interfering with the campaign of another general, which was a punishable offense. Wang Zhongsi was a close friend of Li Heng, raised together with him in the palace. So Li Linfu broadened the accusation: he insisted that Wang Zhongsi intended to start a coup to overthrow Xuanzong and replace him with Li Heng. Thanks to other generals’ support, Wang Zhonsi was spared from death so Li Heng also wasn’t punished. Wang Zhonsi was demoted and died next year.
Over the years Li Linfu made other attempts to undermine Li Heng, but Li Heng managed to survive and not to lose his title thanks to his perseverance and cautiousness. However, the prolonged stress undermined Li Heng’s health: he suffered from depression, and his hair turned white prematurely. (Eventually he’ll die being only 52 y.o. from a heart stroke, having outlived his father for only 2 weeks.)
And yes, Xuanzong did plan to retire with his beloved Yang-guifei and pass all state matters to Li Linfu - this is not the dorama’s invention! One can imagine how that would end for Li Heng.
After Li Linfu died in 752, nothing changed for Li Heng: the next Right Chancellor, Yang Guozhong was a close associate of Li Linfu, and he continued the same politics in regards to the crown prince.
Did the Crown Prince in The Longest Day in Chang'an seem to you like a nervous and intimidated person? He had all the reasons to be: remember, 5:13 survival rate, and his three brothers already killed by their father. For years Li Heng had to walk on thin ice in fear that Xuanzong would listen to slander and order him to commit suicide. And all people who were close to Li Heng risked their lives - only because of their closeness with the prince.

I’m glad that they showed that Hokusai has a sort of obsession with Yang Gufei’s image, both because Yang’s an extremely beautiful person that would be a shame not to paint, and because Hokusai is a borderline arsonists that historically would move out of her way to go to fire fighting incidents just so she could watch the flames from up close.

Master Class
Tumblr media
The BlueStacks thing worked and i have access to my FGO account again! Man, it’s been a year apparently. I thought it was less than that. It’s weird returning to this game after so long. Everything is so different. I had to re-acclimate to my account. I rolled into the end of that Battle of New York event so i missed that. Might partake in the rerun. I got a ton of the 15 missions to finish but I'm definitely putting those off for about a week because of leveling. I missed out on Abby and that f*cking sucks I wanted SO badly to try and roll my adorable Old One. Maybe next time. As a way of just re-familiarize myself, i wanted to run through the available Classes we have now. There’s quite a few and i need to catch up!
Tumblr media
Saber
Tumblr media
Saber is my favorite Class. I mean, off course it is. The majority of my favorite Servants are in this class. Artoria Alter, Gozen, Nero, Lakshmibai, Gawain, and obviously, Modred. Modred is love. As a Class, Sabers make for great vanguards, man. They often deal a sh*t ton of damage and take a good amount before they crap out. That said, they get eaten up by Archers, man. It feels like that Affinity advantage hits a little harder on my swords-wielders. Favorite Saber: Mordred
Archer
Tumblr media
Archers and i have a love hate relationship. They’re dope, don’t get me wrong, but they never seem like they’re properly strong. They feel like Archers to me, if you can understand that weirdness. Like, they’ll take you out but it’ll definitely cost a lot more effort than a strong Saber. Still, the characters are dope and the animation to their Noble Phantasms are almost always epically cinematic like Atalante’s Phoebus Catastrophe or EMIYA’s Unlimited Blade Works. Favorite Archer: Gilgamesh
Lancer
Tumblr media
Lancers are my second favorite Class, mostly because of Cu. Cu gets bad rap most of the time. Dude is hilarious. Also Diarmuid. They did dude dirty in Zero. I enjoy Lacers mostly because of how well balanced they feel. They dish a good amount of damage while maintaining a decent amount of defense. They’re not as hardbody as Sabers and, indeed, get absolutely rag-dolled by them, but they stand their own against the other Classes fairly well. Favorite Lancer: Karna
Rider
Tumblr media
Riders are a quandary to me. So many of them are throw away characters, weak as sh*t, but then you get absolute powerhouses out of nowhere. Francis Drake, Iskander, Quetzalcoatl, Ivan the Terrible, and Ozymandias will ruin your whole ass day if they’re spec’d right but the rest of the entire available Servant int this class are negligible. Even so, they hold a special place in my heart because my darling Medusa is a Rider. Also, Swimsuit Mordred is Rider so this Class got that going for it, too. I do adore all things Mo. Favorite Rider: Medusa
Caster
Tumblr media
I hate Casters. They feel so goddamn weak, all of the time. If you’re not firing off a Noble Phantasm, they’re whack and, even when you do that, there is a real good chance it’s a support spell or some sh*t. I don’t need to debuff anything, f*cking do some damage, clown! This entire class is like utility because there is no way they are relevant in a real battle. Favorite Caster: Swimsuit Nero
Assassin
Tumblr media
Ah, the Assassins. These motherf*ckers area whole ass frustration. Don’t misunderstand, i like them, they’re physical powerhouses, but can a cat get an Anti-Army Noble Phantasm at least once? All of these thing are focused on single unite attacks and threat can make for some dangerous play, man. Ludicrously OP play, but you have the same chance of dying as your opponent running these sneaky bastards. Favorite Assassin: Semiramis
Berserker
Tumblr media
Berserkers area waste, man. All of that power, all of that ludicrous violent potential, and they’re always at an Affinity disadvantage due to the Madness curse. It f*cking blows because these beasts are real f*cking weapons of mass destruction, you know? I never use Berserkers for that exact point, unless going up against a swath of other Berserkers. That’s the only viable time you can use them efficiently and that sh*t almost never happens in game. Favorite Berserker: Ibaraki Douji
Ruler
Tumblr media
Rulers are as useless as Caster but, somehow, disappointingly, moreso. They at least got a dope aesthetic, though. They also take half damage from literally every other Class. That’s cool, i guess. Favorite Ruler: Amakusa Shiro
Avenger
Tumblr media
I love Avengers, man. Love em! These things are always dope. Great power. Great defense. Dope aesthetic. These things get it rough from Moon Cancers but everyone else is at their mercy, especially if you leveled them correctly. I have a few Avengers, personally, and one is literally the second card i maxed out fully. I’ll let you guess who it it is. Hint - She’s a Medusaface. Space Ishtar, Alter Jeanne, and Demon Nobu are also worthy of mention. Favorite Avenger: Gorgon
Moon Cancer
Tumblr media
Moon Cancers are just an excuse to shove in more Sakurafaces in the form of BBs and i am here for it. The more Sakura i can get, the happier i am. I love Sakura. I don’t care for Moon Cancers as a whole Class, though. Also, i don’t have any anyway. F*ck em! Favorite Moon Cancer: Summer BB
Alter Ego
Tumblr media
Alter Egos are so confusing to me. Like, why are they a thing? Why are they just not Alters or whatever? There is a legitimate reason, i know they are separate version that gained sentience and not just a different facet of the same character or whatever the explanation was, but even so, sh*t i contrived nonsense and i kind of love it. Nasu is absolutely known for it’s convolution and Alter Ego are no different. They’re the most TYPE-Moon sh*t ever, after Saberfaces. Favorite Alter Ego: Sesshoin Kiara
Foreigner
Tumblr media
Foreigners are a blessing, aren’t they? Motherf*ckers are wonky as f*ck and just Some of the dopest Servant in all of Fate lore originate in this Class. F*cking Voyager, Yang Gufei, XX, Katsushika Hokusai, and two versions of my darling Abby Williams. And i don’t have any of them. F*ck my life, bro. Just, f*ck it all up, man. Favorite Foreigner: Abby Williams
Tumblr media
That is all the available classes in Fate/Grand Order right now and, i think, all of them in the Fate franchise as whole. I’m sure there are some weirdly loose ones like Gunner or Faker. Once upon a time, the only wonky class was Avenger but now we got all these new ones, and just call them Extra Classes. It’s ridiculous. It’s all very much Nasu and i am having the best time revisiting my favorite franchise from the Nasuverse! Speaking of Extra, for the record, my favorite Servant in the Beast Class is Tiamat. You can’t Summon her, so it felt like a cheat to put her on the actual list but i do enjoy me some ancient Sumerian Dragon-Mother.

Researchers discover superconductor with unexpected lattice configuration
Tumblr media
An international team has discovered that compressing monocrystalline (TaSe4)2I can create a system where the constituent TaSe4Q1-D atomic chains are in amorphous state without breaking the orientational and periodic translation symmetries of the chain lattice. Moreover, they found that along with the amorphization of the atomic chains, the insulating (TaSe4)2I becomes a superconductor. The team is led by Prof. Yang Zhaorong from the High Magnetic Field Laboratory, Hefei Institutes of Physical Science and Prof. Zhang Gufei from University of Southern Denmark. In this study, they used monocrystalline (TaSe4)2I as the starting material for the realization of a new quasi-1-D phase with advanced electronic properties. When increasing the applied pressure up to ca. 20 GPa, they realized the amorphization of the constituent atomic chains of (TaSe4)2I without breaking the long-range order of the chain lattice. Crystalline and amorphous structures are two of the most common solid-state phases. Crystals having orientational and periodic translation symmetries are usually both short-range and long-range ordered, while amorphous materials have no long-range order. Short-range ordered but long-range disordered materials are generally categorized into amorphous phases. Read the full article

Yang Gufei the Loneliest Star
https://www.ancient.eu/article/888/song-of-everlasting-sorrow/
So I was trying to figure out more about Yang Gufei and her being a Foreigner and presumably Cthugha.
As I’ve mentioned before; she’s way more connected to the star that Cthugha is associated with, Fomalhaut, and there’s no reference to Cthugha at all with her.   So I asked myself....why?
Well, the first step is to look at her actual legend.  I came across the Song of Everlasting Sorrow.  It had the historical stuff, Xuanzong (r.712-756 CE), the seventh emperor of the dynasty, and his consort Lady Yang. He was too distracted with her and led the kingdom into disarray so in “punishment” he allowed her to be strangled.
and then he has a Taoist priest contact the land of the dead (hence her being a Xion in Fate, I imagine) and her spirit tells him that Yang and Xuanzong are like two stars, Vega and Altair, who can only meet one day every seven years.
Also known as Tanabata. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanabata
Except our Yang isn’t the star Vega.  She’s the star Fomalhaut.  The amazing thing is that astronomers say that Vega and Fomalhaut are very similar to each other, both similar in terms of mass, ages, and global debris disk properties; therefore, they are often referred as "debris disc twins.”
...except Fomalhaut is also known as “The Loneliest Star” because it’s all alone in its part of the autumn sky. (the Chinese name for the star, which translated to “The North Gate of the Military Camp” also refers to how it stands alone by itself. (and Yang refers to this name often in her lines)
Heck, the Emperior using a Taoist to connect them could be literal.  And that Taoist may have accidentally connected her to Fomalhaut instead of Vega due to their similarities.
"Earth fades, Heaven fades, at the end of days. But Everlasting Sorrow endures always."  as goes the last line in the Song of Everlasting Sorrow.

I'm cutting it close and finally exchanging all of my chocolates. I've got 29 new chocolates to aim for this year (since Demon King Nobu has 2). And 20 Lock-On chocolates. Using those first then going to spend some time gambling to try to get the new skits. So, we’re going to do a Valentine’s Round-up post in the order I get them. Below the cut for length.
Summer Hokusai: Not as interesting as Foreigner’s which was one of my favorites. I liked the small skits with Toto-sama.
Santa Nightingale: “Alexa, play ‘Paper Planes’.” Nightingale vs Chocolate makes a nice, funny skit. Great use of machine gun fire as the scene fades to black.
Gareth: I love the inclusion of her brothers and Lancelot eating up her cupcakes. A cute scene. Also, Jekyll was there.
Lambda: We get an extended conversation with Protea about Melt, which is cool. This one went all out in using sound effects and voice modulation. I got the bad end the first time and just fucking died. Went back through and got the good end where soft tender music plays as she blanks your mind and confines you for the day so you can't receive any more chocolates.
Kagetora: I like how this expands upon her inhumanity and searching for answers to relate to other people. The introspective bits were the most interesting to me. Good monologue.
Car-milla: Her scene was super sweet and adorable. Although all I could think of through the whole thing was the SImposon’s gif “*chuckles* I’m in danger.”
Reines/Sima Yi: Reines is feeding me Mercury Chocolate. Really trying to test that poison resistance... Reines and Sima Yi are taking turns being in charge and you can tell based on the tone who is speaking (and the name listed). Reines is complaining about things being too peaceful and dulling her senses, and Sima Yi is like, "Competition is good, but peace is better." I like how different the pair are in their outlooks.
Charlotte: Cute shit. Charlotte craves violence.
Gray: Love hearing Add yell. And the bits about Gray’s mother are cute as hell. And Goredolf helping her out is cute as well. And how she plans to give some to Waver and Iskandar. Reminds me of how much I like it when these scenes are not just about the Servant and the player, but also about that Servant’s relationship to others. Much more interesting to me.
Okita J.: Another scene where we almost die and become a cyborg. Her earnestness is a fun, unfortunately I just don’t find Okita that interesting in general, so the cutesy bits kind of just dragged on for me.
Salome: LOCAL WOMAN GIVES HEAD. I love how this scene makes Salome and Scheherazade friends, and has Salome look up to her. Her speech on just wanting a friend like she didn’t have in life was a great little expansion on her character. And it ends with her going to try to make more friends. Perfect.
Demon King Nobu: Opened a portal to a hell dimension, you know how it is with chocolate. Demon King Nobbu almost devours us before Standard Nobbu wakes us up. I like how they’re in competition with each other. Ends on a very threatening note as they both consider devouring us sometime soon...
Okita Alter: ACTUALLY REALLY GOOD AND COMPELLING. The only time I’ve found the character interesting. She gets to be mature and have a personality instead of being a boring baby chick. The first part of the scene should've been the epilogue for her initial appearance in GudaGuda.
Space Ishtar: Three simultaneous date invitations from the three Ishtars. Featuring Chaldea being totally destroyed, Fou inserting us into a timeloop, and Rin doing a Tokiomi impression. This one is all about Ishtar, but considering Rin is my favorite character, it works for me. And it’s super funny.
Yang Gufei: My favorite V-Day scene this year. Possibly ever. It’s more like an Interlude. She’s going to get her own post because it was that good. Probably two posts, one with amusing screenshots. Her fire spirits can talk and have their own personalities.
Lobo: We bring him meat instead of chocolate. But, “the wolf is indifferent. It is said he would never eat any meat that was given to him.” So, he sends us out to bring back chocolate. Not to eat. but to smell. To experience something new. Something that doesn’t remind him of his past. Enkidu and Nursery Rhyme are here too. Love this one.
Oda Kippoushi: He gives you his old gourd and has a heart to heart. This is my favorite scene with Nobu in the game. It’s super honest and open and really strips away the “Fool” persona and lets us see the many layers of Nobu underneath. Which is funny considering this Nobu is explicitly the Fool.
Mori: LOCAL MAN DEMANDS HEAD. I love this man, and I like how he respects and likes Chacha. “There’s no denying that Lady Chacha is my Lord’s better half!” is such a great line to help characterize him, beyond his blood lust. "If you're sweet on someone, just capture or kidnap 'em to get together!" And then he holds a tea ceremony. Love the contrast of this man.
Kiritsugu: Man sneaks into our room, puts a gun by our pillow as thanks, and leaves, praying we never need to use it or follow in his path. Short and sweet.
Merlin: Short and sweet, he enjoyed the flavor of our emotions as we handed him over the chocolate. Pretty sentimental for him.
Bartholemew: He gives us a wig to satisfy his fetish. Got to admire this man’s audacity and commitment. And he does this before we give him chocolates. And we wear it. We blow him up with our Command Seals. This one made me laugh.
Mandricardo: He thinks we’re about to lay him off. He gives a good farewell speech while we try to give him chcoclates. I love this bro. Archer helps him by making a replica Durendal to give to us. Archer is mentioned in so many of these. It’d be great to get a Cupid alt Servant for him.
Paris: A socially awkward cutie. “Mister Blackbeard told me that cuteness makes things Lawful-Good.” Honestly, that would go a long way towards explaining FGO’s jank alignment system.
Jason: He tries to play off that he doesn’t know what a return gift is. Jason is the tsundere who actually does just hate you. I like how committed he is to the concept of a ship needing a crew. He may be the captain of a great ship, but it’s the crew that makes it, even if it’s just a model in a bottle. Yet another scene where the Servant “dies”.
Chen Gong: I like that he likes sweets. Neat trait. He made a laser pen with EMP feature. Always the tactician.
Lan Ling: We catch him training. I love how earnest this man is. He gives the chocolate back so that he can receive it properly. Prim, proper, politely and unmasked. And we ask him for the mask in return. “The only thing I received from my previous lord was a poisoned chalice...”
Tristain: “The Best of Tristain”. Da Vinci is always short of running a con. I like seeing Tritain hanging out with Da Vinci and Lancelot. They’re actually pretty consistent on him hanging out and drinking with people.
Asclepius: He totally misses the point of being given chocolate. The man might as well be a berserker with how singularly focused he is. Is he the only return gift that is also chocolate? He gives us a chocolate super drug.
Tell: Took me clearing out all of the return gifts to get this one. This one is cute. It’s all about his son and seeing him in us. He gives us a hunting set and an invitation to go hunting, or just on a hike if we don’t like the thought of killing or blood. He’s a good dad. It ends on the memory, “Okay, got it, Dad! I’ll make sure to listen! So teach me a lot about hunting, okay?”

And Yang Gufei's final skill is at lvl 10. Those Fragments of a Twinkling Star were the limiting factor, so it's nice that there were enough in the V-Day event Shop. It'll be super useful when we get her skill upgrade around November.
