There was once a shepherd boy. One day the boy told a lie. “Wolf! A wolf is here!” The adults of the town were fooled by the boy’s lie and brought weapons but there was no wolf. The boy repeated the same lie, 2 to 3 times more. “A wolf! A wolf is here!” And when a wolf really did come, no one, believed the boy.

When the wolf appeared, the boy regretted it the most. Because the boy never knew that a wolf would really appear.

“Excuse me, little lady,” came a voice. It was usually much higher, usually laced with some giggles, but the owner of the voice was trying to masquerade it as something much lower and far more intimidating. He placed his hands on your shoulder gently, shifting you over to the side so he could step through, hoping to find his place in front of the camera with his fellow group members before he got scolded for being late.
You rolled your eyes as the male passed by with the largest smile you had ever seen on his face. “Pretending to be an old-school gangster from one of those early 2000s movies today?” you inquired. That grin on his face somehow grew even bigger, and you realized that your conclusion had been correct.
“It was movie night at the dorm last night. But, you know, you would know… if you came to one our movie nights,” he scolded, making you roll your eyes again.
“Need I remind you that your movie nights are usually at your dorm? You know I can’t be there late at night,” you reminded him. Even if you were part of the staff, it would be scandalous for a woman to be leaving a male idol‘s dorm late at night. You didn’t want to cause the boys any unnecessary problems.
However, in response to your counter, Sungwoon only put his arms up to form an ‘x.’ “Nope, last night’s movie night was in the practice room. You ditched the wonderful group you manage in order to go drinking with your friends,” he said, pretending to be hurt by your decision.
Okay, now he was just pushing his luck with you. He knew full well that you were not out drinking last night. You had been up since 2 in the morning with them, shuttling the boys from schedule to schedule. Knowing the next day would be equally busy, one of the other managers took your usual late shift so you could rest up before today’s schedules. Though you wanted to argue this point with Sungwoon, the look that the photographer was giving you showed that he was one, annoyed, and two, that they had to get started if the boys wanted to make their next schedule. “Okay, okay, I’m sorry. I promise I’ll make the next one,” you conceded, getting him to grin from ear to ear.
“That’s my girl!” he replied excitedly before he ran over to the other boys, going right into work-mode.
Though Sungwoon would often say things like that, you really weren’t his girl at all. The two of you were now close friends, ones that liked to use those types of terms, just usually not in public. Honestly, though, you never thought you would meet someone like him when you had first gotten this job. You never thought you would grow so close to someone in such a short time. But, truth be told, working for Wanna One had been a dream come true for you.
In the past, you had worked as a manager for two other groups, but it was never like this. The work had been harder; the groups were overworked, and fans rarely liked you, being a female manager for a boy group. Morale was often low, and that made your job harder when you would have to wake up overworked idols to do their job. Yet, with Wanna One it had been different. Though you knew sometimes they were tired and overworked, the overall energy from all eleven boys had been a lot higher. Though it did often get out of hand, everyone seemed to have a good time. And on days when they were struggling, you did your best to keep their energy up, even getting the other managers to take part in some karaoke in the car just to get the boys involved too.
Of course, working with such a large group meant that you would be closer to some member than others, and for you, you had grown close with Sungwoon. It wasn’t always like that though. When he had first met you, he outright told you that you were too uptight. That didn’t sit with your well, but you also couldn’t help it. It was one thing to be a female staff member for a boy group, but to be part of the staff of such a popular group as theirs… you really couldn’t help but be on edge from time to time.
Still, even with his comment, Sungwoon, worked hard to ease you into it all, trying to get you to relax when he could. The more that you interacted with Sungwoon, the more that you found you had in common. Your similarities, differences, and interests melded well with each other. You confided in him, and him in you. Your relationship became like one of old friends, reuniting after being apart for many years. It was comfortable, and it was easy. You started to open up more.
Your friendship with Sungwoon got to the point where the two of you would even meet up outside of work, during small breaks or when schedules ended early. Usually, this wouldn’t have been allowed, but with fans knowing that you were their manager, it was easier to pass these meetings as a work-related event and nothing more. Not that it was anything more, mind you. The two of you really were just friends. You’d go out, eat, have a couple of drinks, and just relax. You hadn’t done this in years and it was something you were definitely grateful for.
These outings allowed the both of you to express things that you couldn’t in a room full of people. Sungwoon would share with your his concerns, asking you for your advice. Often, you didn’t have advice that was pertinent to him, but you let him know that, if something of equal importance had happened in your life, what you would do about it. Yet you would always remind him, as you’d often talk with a bit of alcohol in your systems, that this wouldn’t necessarily be a good idea in his line of work.
Your little get-togethers were no longer just about voicing your concerns. You let each other into other parts of your life as well. In particular, after one night with far too many drinks, you told Sungwoon that you had dated one of the idols that you managed before. The relationship didn’t end well, and it made the job hard. Being near him was already hard enough, but hearing whispers about the two of you, and about how your new non-celebrity boyfriend was just a ruse made it very painful. in your inebriated state, you had told him that dating an idol was a nightmare and that it would impossible to convince you to give it another shot. Sungwoon didn’t say much. He reassured you that it wasn’t for everyone and the topic just kind of dropped off.
At the time you didn’t think much about it, but you soon realized that this closeness that you had developed with Sungwoon was visible to others as well… particularly the members. They saw it plain as day. How the two of you would often seek each other out. How sometimes, your conversations would lead the two of you off into your own little world separate from the others. They would often tease you both about it, but you would both brush it off, only pretending now and then to be a little closer than expected. But even with this in mind, it’s not like you hadn’t thought about it.
Though you had firmly expressed how difficult it would be to convince you to date another celebrity, you knew that you would throw it out of the window for Sungwoon. Though it was counter to everything you had said about the two of you being just friends, you did feel something special with him. He made you feel a level of comfort and relaxation that you had never felt around anyone else. You felt safe with him. But, there was no way he felt the same. You were probably just hallucinating it. After all, the last time you were in a crowded airport, there was no way he had purposefully pulled you away from that mob. He couldn’t have. The two of you were just friends, and nothing more.
This, didn’t stop the other boys from planting little ideas in your mind of ‘what ifs’ that could have happened. You tried not to humor them, but on days when you were really bored, you would more readily entertain them, to entertain yourself and the others.
“I’m pretty sure that Sungwoon likes you, noona,” Daehwi said as he sat himself next to you. Seongwu, who had been sitting to your left looked up momentarily from his phone, intrigued by the younger male’s seemingly random comment. This was a weird time to bring it up, right before a broadcast.
“Daehwi, you don’t know that for sure, stop gossiping. It’s not a good look on a young man like yourself,” you teased gently, as you checked their schedule on your phone, but the young male would not let up.
“But I really think he does, noona,” he insisted, making you look up from your phone with a smirk.
The least you could do was humor him. “Oh? And what makes you think that?”
“The way he looks at you is different. The way he talks to you is different. You don’t have to be an adult to see those things,” Daehwi said with a nod.
“It’s because we’re close, silly,” you insisted back, and this time Seongwu was the one to pipe up, almost making you jump. He had been so quiet—which was rare for him—that you forgot that he was even there.
“Daehwi does kind of have a point though. He definitely doesn’t treat others like he treats you. I’ve never seen him take other staff members, let alone female staff members, on a dinner,” Seongwu pointed out. The younger male’s words had got him thinking. You and Sungwoon really were that close.
“We paid separately,” you pointed out. “It was not a date.”
Seongwu nodded, but he didn’t let up. “But, even so, he does spend a lot of time with you. Even for people that are just friends. You gotta admit that that’s a bit much, hm?”
“We’re just friends,” you insisted, and the boys let up for the time being because they had to get on stage. Yet their little seed of doubt got you wondering. Did you friend think of you as more than just that? You knew the two of you were close, and you knew that made some uncomfortable, but you thought that was just in Sungwoon’s nature. You didn’t think he was planning something, nor that he had any intention of moving your relationship further. Things the boys were calling signs you didn’t see as such, so you wondered… were they? Or were they just overreacting?
You thought about it the entire time the boys were warming up and performing, though you monitored them, your mind was definitely elsewhere. It was now filled with thoughts you hadn’t considered before and it got to you to the point where you knew the only way to get an answer, was to get it from the man himself. So you waited until the performance was over, when the boys were back in the waiting room, preparing to leave for their next schedule before you approached Sungwoon.
“Hey Sungwoon, you got a minute?” you asked when he was chatting with the other boys about the movie they had watched last night. As per usual he had fallen asleep during the film, leaving the others to be overrun with nightmares after watching such a film. Part of it was actually talking about what had happened and other parts of the conversation were about the scary things they had encountered in their dreams because of the film. You, luckily got to skip this as it was too late in the night and the male managers lived with them. Thank goodness too because honestly, scary movies were just not your thing.
Sungwoon beamed when he saw you and his attention was quickly pulled away from the group of boys. He was sure that Jisung made a face at him, but he didn’t care. He was just happy to see you. “I don’t know, do I have a minute? You’re my manager, so I feel like you would know best,” he teased, making you roll your eyes at him.
“Fine, let’s go talk,” you replied, turning to walk out of the busy waiting room and into one of the unused rooms nearby. As you were exiting the room, you caught sight of the other boys whispering amongst themselves and you couldn’t help but shake your head. This really couldn’t be what they had thought it was. There was no way.
“So what did you want to talk about that we have to do it away from the others?” he asked with a chuckle as he stood in front of you in the empty room. He felt like something was definitely different this time and he couldn’t quite put his finger on it. Still, he wanted to be open to whatever it was, whatever it meant.
This felt silly. It had been so easy to talk to Sungwoon before and now suddenly you felt like a high school girl that had pulled a senior into an empty classroom to confess to him. This was ridiculous. There was no way the others were right. “It’s just—how do I say—ah, I’m just going to say it. The others told me that you like me and I wanted to know if you did. It’s silly, right?” You felt even more ridiculous now that those words had left your lips. You were a grown adult, so why were you acting like such a child?
A chuckle from Sungwoon reminded you that you were not in this room alone and it made you more aware of what you had just asked him… and now all you had to do was wait for his response. “I do like you,” he said simply.
“Wait, you what?” you asked, his words barely sinking in before these words left your mouth, eliciting another laugh from the male in front of you.
“I’ve liked you for a bit now. At first I thought we were just comfortable with each other because we were the same age and we got along well because we had a lot in common. But I realized pretty quickly that it wasn’t all I felt for you. But when you told me you had a bad experience in dating an idol in the past, I didn’t want to pressure you. I like you though, so don’t ever think otherwise. The guys are right this time,” he confessed, leaning against the back of the couch as he looked at you.
This wasn’t exactly what you were expecting, but you definitely felt happy. You had been harboring feelings for him too, but given Sungwoon’s naturally friendly and playful nature, you had thought you misunderstood. Apparently, you hadn’t. “I didn’t mean it to sound like that when I told you about my past relationship,” you told him as you moved closer to Sungwoon. His hand instinctively wrapped around your waist. It felt right, like it always had.
“I know you didn’t. But I also didn’t want to be the jerk that made you rush into something new before you were ready. I know that was more than two years ago, but still. Don’t want you to feel like you’re repeating the same thing over again. Didn’t want to push my luck with you.”
Sungwoon definitely had his moments where he was incredibly sweet and it was in those moments that your heart really felt warm; that it felt full because of him. “I’d never think that of you,” you told him, your hands gently framing his face as he pulled you in closer.
“I’m glad,” he told you gently as he held you firmly to his form and for the first time, being this close, he placed a kiss gently against your lips.

"the seasons change as fast as your feelings does."
masterlist
It was winter when you first met him.
You were working on your research paper at a local cafe in town when he suddenly asked if he could sit at your table.
"Huh?"
"Sorry, it's just that I really need to finish my paper and the wifi at the dorm stopped working and there's no more empty seats except this one."
"Oh... yeah go ahead."
And that was the first time you met him. Maybe because it was the frantic look on his face, his messy hair, the fact that his shirt was inside out, or his cute pout when his laptop opened slower than he wanted, but something about him made you feel warm inside. You came to finish your research paper, but left with his number.
Now the number wasn't on purpose. The mysterious stranger who seemed to be super stressed suddenly remembered he had to print it by tomorrow, and with the wifi down, and university charging a few dollars to print, he asked if you could do it for him. Of course you said yes, how can you turn him down? And so that's how you got his number, and a meeting with him tomorrow morning to exchange it.
That morning was surely something you will remember. You showed up to the cafe exactly at the time he told you last night with his paper in your hands and after a few minutes he arrived, looking totally different from yesterday. You noticed how well he cleaned up. His hair isn't messy, his outfit matched his shoes so well and his face is tender unlike yesterday's stressed out, frantic look.
"Thank you so much for printing this. You basically saved my life, I'll treat you to coffee."
"Oh no it's okay, I saw how stressed you were yesterday, it's the least I could do."
"No too bad, I'm still buying it for you."
You mentally smiled to yourself, thanking whoever was watching above you for giving him his stubborn nature. If it wasn't for that, you wouldn't have known that he was the same age as you, goes to the same university, and have the same interests. You learned that his name is Ha Sungwoon and that he majors in the arts.
Time past by quicker than you wanted, but all good things come to an end somehow. He tells you he has class soon and thanks you once again and you tell him that it's okay and thank him for the coffee. When he took a few steps away from you to leave, he suddenly stopped and turned around.
"Hey y/n, let's get coffee again sometime, I'll text you?"
"I would love too," you replied trying to hide your smile.
"Okay, see you then!"
Sungwoon replies with a smile before turning away, heading for the door and to his class. You sat there smiling, watching him as he fades into a blur, radiating a special kind of warmth against the falling snow.
It was spring when he asked you to be his girlfriend.
Ever since that coffee meet up with Sungwoon, you and him had been hanging out more frequently. You would wait on campus for him to finish class and he would do the same for you. It has only been 3 months since you met him, but it felt like you known him for 3 years. Seongwu, his roommate, always made fun of him. He always refer to you as Sungwoon's girlfriend, and as much as you wished that was true, you laughed it off as a joke because you didn't want to ruin the friendship you had with Sungwoon. You were so sure that he didn't see you as anymore than a friend, which is why you were so surprised at his confession one day at the park.
"You're asking me out?"
"Who else would I be talking to dummy," Sungwoon laughs.
"When did you start liking me?"
"Hm... ever since Seongwu called you my girlfriend? I've been thinking ever since."
"Why did you decide to ask me out?"
"Why are you asking so many questions? It's because I like you and I want to call you mine," Sungwoon says while looking at you with his loving eyes, ones that makes you melt every time.
And that's how you and Sungwoon began dating. Your relationship bloomed like the flowers at the park he confessed to you at. Your relationship mirrored the warm weather of spring.
It was summer when he told you he wanted to be with you forever.
It was one of those nights, one where nothing else mattered in the world except each other presence.
“Y/n look! A shooting star!” Sungwoon exclaimed pointing at the beam of light that was now gone.
“Did you make a wish?”  You questioned curiously.
“Of course. I wished that I could be with you forever.”
“Sungwoon! You weren’t suppose to say your wish out loud,” you pouted, “It’s not going to come true now.”
“You’re so cute. I can’t believe you trust those superstitions.”
You turned to him and took a good look at him. Sometimes you wonder how’d you get so lucky. Sometimes you wonder what’d you do in your past life to deserve this. You suddenly attacked him with a hug, and once you know it, you find your eyes filled with tears. Sungwoon turned around and just like instincts, he wrapped his arms around you tightly.
“Baby what’s wrong? Why are you crying? Is it cause I said the wish out loud? Oh my god I’ll take it back and wish again and won’t say it out loud this time.”
“No, it’s not because of that,” you paused and took a deep breath, “Your wish. You really want to me with me forever?”
He looked at you, “More than anything else in the world,” he kissed your forehead, “You don’t have to cry about that you know. I’ve said more emotional things to you before.”
Both of you laughed. You know exactly what he means. He has a way of words that makes you weak in the knees, but you never let yourself cave in. Today was different. Perhaps it was the fact that he was so sure he wanted to be with you forever or perhaps it was his certainty in this unpredictable world. But you shrugged it off, because the only thing that matters is that you were in love with him, and he was in love with you.
It was autumn, when you found out that Sungwoon fell out of love.
You found out in the most cliché way, where even you couldn’t believe it happened. You wanted to surprise Sungwoon at his job because you got off work earlier than you expected. You were about to go into the studio where he teaches dance part time when you heard your name outside the thin wooden door.
“I don’t know what to do Seongwu, I don’t have the heart to tell y/n.”
“You can’t just keep it from her, she has feelings too you know.”
“That’s exactly why I can’t tell her. I can’t break her heart like that.”
“Then what are you going to do when she does find out you fallen out of love.”
That was one month ago.  You found out that Sungwoon fell out of love one month ago. You never told him. You never confronted him. You never broke down in front of him. Why? It was because you love him too much. You knew what you are doing is wrong, but you couldn’t control your feelings. You knew Sungwoon was trying to make it obvious. You knew it. He doesn’t reply to your messages as frequently anymore, he only calls if he needs something, he is always “busy” when you ask to hang out, and he hasn’t told you he loved you in three weeks.  For a month, you had to pretend everything was fine. For a month, you had to pretend you weren’t slowly dying inside. Maybe it was time to let him go; maybe tonight’s dinner with him was your chance.
“Hey, you look super tired today, you okay?” Sungwoon asked curiously.
You faked a smile. “Yeah. Just a little tired.”
You felt pathetic. You were having dinner with a man that didn’t even love you anymore. It took you a week to convince him to go out to dinner with you. You were faking all your laughs and smiles. You were so lost in your thoughts you didn’t even notice he was calling your name.
“Y/n, are you sure you’re just tired? You seem really out of it today.”
“I’m fine, I just –,“ you paused and took a good look at him, “I’m –, ” you choked up.
“I’m going to leave first please excuse me.” You got your jacket and purse and ran out the restaurant. Sungwoon looked at you with wild eyes. He quickly got up and paid for the meal and ran after you.
“Y/n! Wait!”
You kept running despite his calls, but in the end you weren’t fast enough. He caught up with you and grabbed your arm, turning you around to face him. Before he could speak, you beat him to it.
"Let's break up." You say with no expression.
"What? What are you saying right now? C'mon I'll take you back home."
"Sungwoon... I'm not joking right now, let's break up."
He was quiet. Maybe this wasn't so bad after all; he did wanted to end things didn't he?
"I don't understand."
"You don't need to, I'm helping you out Sungwoon."
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"I know you fell out of love. I actually knew a month ago, but I couldn't let you go. I couldn't confront you because I love you too damn much Ha Sungwoon.  I pushed the fact that you don't love me anymore away because I couldn't imagine my life without you. I thought maybe we could talk things out but you started to drift away from me. It hurts so damn much. I kept pretending this wasn't killing me but it's tearing me apart. I know I'm stupid, I know I'm pathetic for holding onto you for the past month but you promised me you were going to be with me forever. You promised you'd be there, you promised we would grow old together." You said as tears began pooling your now heartbroken eyes.
"You're not going to say anything?" You chuckle, "Of course, you don't care anymore. Why did I expect to hear some reassuring words from you? See? See how pathetic I am?"
He hugged you. And you let yourself fall into his trap again. A month worth of tears, sadness and pain poured out into Ha Sungwoon's embrace, something you promised won't happen.
"I'm sorry, y/n. I'm so sorry."
It is winter again.
It’s been exactly a year since you met Ha Sungwoon, and it’s also been two months since you ended things with him. Without even noticing, you walked into the same café, same time, same day as last winter when you first met him. You sat down with your coffee at the same spot. You took a deep breath and looked out the window. It has already been two months without Sungwoon, but your heart is still as empty as the day you walked away from him. You know you will get over him someday, but the problem is you don’t know when that someday is going to be. Despite the fact that things didn't really end well, you can’t bring yourself to hate him, because there’s nothing about him to hate. You suddenly think of the time he said his wish out loud and you smirk to yourself, something that was quite rare these days.
"Maybe I was right. I told you." You whispered to yourself lightheartedly.
You took a sip of your coffee, and admired the falling snow. It seemed like it was only yesterday when leaves were falling. You sighed.
"The seasons change as fast as your feelings does Ha Sungwoon.”
