I am kind of a starter with regards to Japanese dramas; do you think you could recommend some?
Friend! hmmmmmm I shall recommend you dramas/movies that I think most jwatchers (that I know) have seen and still enjoy/liked. The first couple of these are early 2000ish that are "old" starter pack ones they are so many gems from that time so ill list only 7.
Hana Yori Dango (all seasons +the remake) I think almost every jdrama watcher has watched AT LEAST the first season. like you gotta try it friend you just gottaaaa. Everytime i hear Planetarium or flavor of life my eyes tear still up and I start belting the lyrics.
Long Vacation a 90's age gap goodie.
Hana kimi (+the remake) I didnt watch the remake but I find the original is the best iteration of all the countries. Again I'm sure 98% of jdrama watchers have seen this. Bonus Pretty boi galore and antics.
Sky of love/Koizora (movie/drama) You are gonna feel for the youngins and then cry.
Nana (movie) music and female friendship.
GTO (all versions) the original 90's is a classic teacher one thats still good and it's better than the remake to me.
Gokusen (all seasons) everyone and their grandchildren probably watched this. It's another classic teacher one. It feels old? nostalgic and cheesy life lessony but still fun. I'd give it try for the female lead cause I still love her spunk to this day. Bonus all the guys in it were hotties at the time so pretty boi galore lol.
Juhan Shuttai! serotonin boost work related drama female lead.
Boku no Ita Jikan your gonna be sad and cry but its a gem.
Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu more recent and a romcom contract marriage goodie.
99.9: Keiji Senmon Bengoshi I don't know if you like law dramas but this is one and its fun.
Ouroboros Crime drama + Bromance
Kimi ni todoke (movie) your romance one. i love lovee this movie. I have seen it literalllyyy so many times I could quote this movie lol.
Koi wa Tsuzuku yo Doko Made romcom everyone I know watched this and loved it. I didn't particularly enjoy it tho but i have questionable taste so lolol
Tonbi (2013 movie) heartwarming family drama.
Mother (2010 drama) not for everyone kinda drama but ohhh your gonna cry cause it cutssss you.
Okitegami Kyoko no Biboroku a light private detective one with romance and i think its just niceeee.
I tend to watch shows for a particular feeling. So if there is a particular actor you want to see more of... or a specific feeling you like, I can rec something similar to that. Be warned friend.. i don't tend to watch masterpieces or award winning stuff so that kind list would be very small... im not that deep lolol. And most of these have romances sorry lolol so if you don't want that i can rec something else.
p.s. If you hate all of these than I'm sorry 😂😂😂😂😂

Tony Stark x gender neutral reader
Tony talking to you about your music taste. This is self-indulgent purely for the fact that I’m using my music taste.
Songs mentioned in order:
     1. Rex Orange County ↴
Green Eyes, Pt.II (first two lines)
4 Seasons (third line)
     2. Still Woozie - Goodie Bag (last line)
Requested: No
Word Count: 472
🎵 see money is the only motive, but money is a sin and I loath it 🎶
Tony shifted uncomfortably, making (y/n) raise a brow. “Something wrong, Tony?”
“No, nothing.” The music continued to blast from their phone but Tony did actually have something to say. “Well, yeah there is something. I’m a billionaire, (y/n), and ‘money is a sin?’. I--”
🎶 the reason why a prick is running the country. no matter when you see this vote, there’s always a prick running this country 🎵
“(y/n), what the hell?”
(y/n) laughed, wrapping an arm around their lover’s waist and continuing to browse through their phone. “Don’t worry about it, it’s just a song.”
🎵 and who am I to judge the friends that I once thought I knew 🎶
The next song came around and Tony got more thoughts. “Did somebody stab you in the back or something? Why do you have all these edgy songs?”
They laughed again, shaking their head. “Tony, I told you, they’re just songs. They sound nice and I like them.”
Tony crossed his arms, raising an eyebrow. “Don’t you pay attention to the lyrics?” He cast a judging look at (y/n).
“You don’t have to.” (y/n) replied. “It’s not my fault I don’t listen exclusively to AC/DC.”
Tony frowned with feigned anger, “Hey! I mix in other… rock and roll.. songs in there sometimes.”
(y/n) rolled their eyes playfully, looking back down at their phone. “If that’s what helps you sleep at night, sure.”
They spent the rest of that song in silence, browsing through their phones.
🎶 why you always hate to break bread? 🎵
“Break bread?” (y/n) heard Tony mutter. “Hey, sexy,” Sexy was Tony’s nickname for (y/n), he argues that they’re always sexy no matter what, “I do not understand you youngins' music.”
(y/n) laughed while rolling their eyes. ‘Youngin’ he was like, max, twice their age. People only get to use that word if they’re like, parents.. or something.
They pressed a kiss on Tony’s temple. “I honestly have no idea what it means, but hey, it sounds good, doesn’t it?”
“Sure..” Tony said with a doubting tone.
When that song came to an end, Tony asked (y/n) to turn off their music so that he could turn on his. (y/n) rolled their eyes but obliged anyway.
Tony put on some AC/DC and was finally content in the music playing.
Tony opened his mouth again to say something but (y/n) interrupted him, “You don’t want me to play my music when you’re around. That’s what you were going to say, isn’t it?”
“Well, no..” He played if off like he wasn’t going to say that, but he totally was. “I was going to give you some song recommendations.”
“AC/DC Back in Black?”
“Yeah..”

Review: A Tribe Called Quest, “Thank You 4 Your Service”
Whether it’s the country’s institutionalization driven by drugs, poor political representation, or the present generation finding their worth, A Tribe Called Quest’s long-awaited and final record, “We got it from here… Thank you 4 your service,” beautifully but blatantly points out societal flaws to unify the people. There’s a lot of complex consciousness blending the past, present, and future echoed throughout beats, metaphors, and star-studded appearances. The record honored a fallen five-footer brother, and deciphered that not every brother is a brother… but they don’t know.
Timeless and timely, the band’s first record in 18 years was released right after the election. “We the People…” already instills Trump’s separatist immigration policies, and Tribe combats this by finding common ground in the food we eat when we’re hungry. Referenced is a meal college kids know all too well – ramen noodles. A food everyone can afford, the microwavable snack is used as a level playing field, showing we’re more alike than different, and mostly broke.
While “The Space Program” alludes to a surely female president, “Melatonin” copes with a lack of surprise in the rise of Trump. Although cut before election day, Q-Tip practically responds to Barack Obama’s day-after speech with the line “The sun is up, but I feel down again.”
youtube
This track suggests racist acts always done in the dark are simply now coming out. This sentiment is echoed in “The Killing Season,” which uses metaphors of war to describe injustice at the hands of the police: “These fruitful trees are rooted in bloody soil and torment / Things haven’t really changed / Or they’re dormant for the moment.” The record’s release on Veteran’s Day and reference to an associated phrase in the title makes this comparison especially potent.
Despite predictable presidential results, this reality still ensues restlessness. This lack of sleep is explained in “Kids…” where worries for the future generations are that both normal, safe success and famous, flashy rapdom are unattainable fantasies for black youth. In contrast, “Movin Backwards” shows motivation from the youngsters, bringing contemporary artist Anderson Paak. on to propose propelling onward in the face of hopelessness.
Contrasting top-ranking rap albums from this year such as Young Thug and Travis Scott, Tribe brings the philosophy lost in trap music, putting the rhythm and poetry back in rap. Jarobi has something to say to the “trap lords with the fetty” in “Movin Backwards,” begging rappers not to bring back stereotyped shallowness Tribe’s thoughtful lyrics hoped to put a dent in.
These artist have digressed from the hip hop that reminded Q-Tip’s dad of bebop in ”Excursions,” but Tribe brought in youngins who embrace jazz on their records, like Anderson Paak. and Kendrick Lamar, maintaining philosophical flow for the future. “We got it from here…” maintains a classic sound through Q-Tip’s multi instrumentalism and scratches by George “DJ Scratch” Spivey. Production and subject matter are relevant and fresh without ever feeling contrived, and is always very Tribe.
Jarobi White stayed in the background the few early years he was with ATCQ, leaving and his vocals cut before “Low End Theory” dropped. For the first and last time, White lends his verses and voice to several tracks. Also coming together after nearly 20 years of disagreements are Q-Tip and Phife Dawg. Childhood friends separated by solo ventures, Phife’s abrasive tone is like the crunchy toast Q-Tip’s buttery vocals are spread upon. Phife was always Q-Tip’s biggest critic, and the Abstract alludes to this in the song dedicated to the five foot assassin, “Lost Somebody”: “Despite all the spats and shits and immaculately documented / The one thing I appreciate, you and I, we never pretended.” The track leaves a small space of silence toward the end, interbedded with sharp guitar riffs that echo in Phife’s absence.
Along with all the fabulous founding members, Tribe brings in talented and famous names to help continue divulging their low end theory. Classic associates Busta Rhymes, Andre 3000 and Q-Tip’s cousin Consequence lend verses while left-field features like Jack White and Elton John provide funky instrumentals. Subdued appearances never overshadow Tribe, serving as savory sprinkles atop a soulful sundae.
In “Conrad Tokyo,” Phife post-humorously alludes to the band’s now legendary SNL performance. A day after the record release and the weekend after the election, their appearance with fellow Black Muslim Dave Chappelle on SNL was the perfect punctuation to a painful week, and a wonderful FU to our president-elect. Chappelle’s graciousness toward Trump and Tribe’s reclamation of his hateful rhetoric shows the greatness of America, and the talent we stand to miss out on if Trump successfully closes the minds ATCQ has spent over 20 years opening.

Mumble Rap Ain't My Cup Of Tea, But...
I got to say- I'm getting a little tired of hearing heads my age and older complaining about it. They have no rhymes, no vocabulary, they repeat the hook over more than half the track, it has no connection to the elements of hip hop culture, and even most of the beats sound the same... I've heard all the complaints. And all the complaints are valid. But my fellow aging heads need to give it a rest. The newest, most popular crop of MCs (and I use that term loosely) aren't my cup of tea personally and their music doesn't speak to me, but it doesn't have to. Hip Hop music has always been driven by the tastes of urban youth, and to be honest, I'm a thirty-something 9 to 5er, husband, and father who's already taking cholesterol medication and planning to move out to the suburbs as soon as I get my first win fall of cash. I don't sip lean. I don't pop pills. I don't turn up. Heck, I don't even think I've stepped foot in a club since 2009. Getting my brakes done and my front porch weather proofed is my idea of a productive weekend. So I recognize I'm not part of that young crowd that the Lil Yatchy's and Uzi Verts and Travis Scotts are making music for. Let the youngin's do their thing and have their music.
Hip Hop music itself is almost 40 years old at this point. Just the music. B-boying and graffiti art are even older. But think about Rock music when it was 40 years old. From the 50s to the 90s, it's sound evolved and changed drastically. You had classic rock, heavy metal, soft-rock, folk rock, progressive rock, grunge, alternative, punk, the list goes on...all these sub-genres of rock n roll had their time, scene, and poster children that were representative of whatever they were being labeled as. The same thing  happened with Jazz. Between the 1920s and1960s we saw the emergence of swing, big band, free jazz, ragtime, bebop, Afro-Cuban, modal, and cool jazz and they all made significant contributions to the genre.  Now I'm not saying I believe mumble rap  is going to make a lasting impression and in the year 2037 there will be documentaries made on the genius and impact of the Slime Season releases, but I am saying no genre stays recognizable and forever identifiable by it's initial audience. Looking at what's happened with other genres in the past, it's really not all that unfathomable that hip hop will, and has, split into several sub-genres. We've seen boom bap, g-funk, backpack, true-school, conscious, southern, trap, crunk, and now whatever this newest stuff is called.
I personally like hip hop to have banging boom bap-ish, soulful beats with substantive, conscious lyrics sprinkled in with battle ready bars (I have The UN's U N Or U Out bumping in the background as I write this). But I recognize that's not what everyone wants to hear. At the same time, fellow heads and casual rap fans who often complain about the current state of rap music have to put their money where their mouths are and buy and support what they deem to be real hip hop. I'm tired of seeing 35 year olds buying Drake and Future albums so they don't look old and out of touch, and then turning around and saying "Whatever happened to all the real hip-hop? These cats wouldn't be allowed to exist if 2Pac was still alive!"
As far as these new mumble rappers not paying respect to those who came before them, it's annoying and bothersome that there's a disconnect between rappers who are popping now and the aging class of rappers who paved the way for them and made it possible for these kids to live off their "craft". But let's be honest, most people don't idolize those who came 20 or 30 years before them. Mostpeople look at whatever was being made during their coming of age as the standard. There's no way I will convince my parents' generation that 90s R&B could hang with, or be better than, what was being made in the Motown/Chess records era. Nor do I need to.  Every generation has their idols. I grew up on Wu Tang Clan, A Tribe Called Quest, Fugees, De La, Mobb Deep, Snoop, The Roots, Black Star, etc., and while I have a respectfor who and what came before them, I don't own a single album by Whodini, Just-Ice, or the Ultramagnetic MCs (with the exception of a few singles from a golden -era rap compilation CD). I did my research and due diligence on the Slick Ricks, Kool G Raps, and KRS-Ones and even copped most of their discographies, but some cats I just never got around to. I'm saying that to say these mumble rappers shouldn't have to know every Nas verse or list Biggie and 2Pac in their top 5 dead or alive. Cause they didn't grow up on them. Something could be said for the lack of respect shown to the greats, but that's a topic for another day.
In the meantime, let these kids rock out. Let them live. Let them grow. Let them mature. Cause one day, they'll be us.
