In light of of the upcoming finale I’d like you share a little G Witch story with ya’ll. Well maybe story isn’t the right word, it’s more like... an incident.

So! Did you know The Witch from Mercury has a tie-in novel series? Well it does! It’s mostly a retelling of the events of the anime but there are a few new elements, including Miorine’s ex-best friend/possible first love (?) Yushura Mirzakhani. If you’ve ever seen art of some Saber looking girl now you know it’s actually a G Witch character and not a Fate crossover.

Apart from that one chapter, very little of the novels are translated, and at the time I was looking into them pretty much nothing was out there. Now I know machine translation would do a pretty... Terrible Job at dealing with a novel but whatever, I figured I’d give it try. I might be able to get the gist of it at the very least.

New Problem: The novel scans I have are just that: scans/jpgs, so it’s not like I can copy and paste the Japanese into a translator. However DeepL does let you give it a pdf, and while there’s a VERY small change it actually has the ability to pick out text from static images I once again figured it couldn’t hurt to see what happened.

And well, Things Sure Did Happen.

Here are some favs my friends and I picked out while looking through the doc:

Honestly? 100x better than a machine translation of the novel. I think I actually got a glimmer of the very soul of the machine that translates. This is the Aerial of PDFs. It has a lot of strange quirks, including: apologising, escaping, trout, death, repeating phases. Which in the context of being a fucked up G Witch translation just makes it all the better.

Anyway! Here’s hoping we get more actual human translations of the novels in the future, but in the mean time this messed up version will remain unforgettable to me.

so when I was scrolling through fics for sulemio, I found this character that the character apparently exist from the light novel only named Yushura (Mirzhakhani?) supposedly an ex girlfriend/childhood friend of miorine and a supposedly rival of suletta

While I feel like anime the witch from mercury feels rushed, I wish we got to see some more of their life in Asticassia and maybe this character would've appeared and we get to have some Highschool trope type thing between the three of them

And also apparently she went to a different school than Asticassia?

I couldn't find much info about her too so the all the things I said might not be accurate

What do you think of her?

Edit: I did a few more digging she was actually en ex fiancee?? girly miorine got 3 engagements without reaching the age of 20

Throwing down some Yushura headcanons because this train ride is long

- Miorine learned the ‘feigning fatigue in order to get someone to come over so you can catch them’ behavior from Yushura

- Miorine hates being called ‘princess’ since it’s a nickname that solidifies her status as being set apart in an apparent high position. Yushura only calls Miorine that when Miorine’s done something that gravely wounds or angers her, otherwise it’s ‘Mio’ all the way down. Sometimes ‘Miorine’ if it’s serious

- Yushura wears her cloak to conceal that there’s less muscle mass on her body. It’s also very funny for poofy gay bird shenanigans.

- Miorine has a habit of going under Yushura’s cloak when she needs comforting or is in a bad mood. World cold and hard. Cloak warm and soft. Also comes with one (1) free best friend

- Miorine sucks at moving in low-g since she usually had Yushura and the Haro cane to help her move around in it

- Yushura sleeps on her back if it’s been a good day, or on her side or stomach if she’s in pain

- (this one is from p1x1x) since Yushura’s grip is weak she enjoys holding things in her arms instead, if she can. Mostly Haro and Miorine.
