Right, darling?
Day/Prompt: Day 5 - "I'll be your date for the party if you don't have one yet"
Fandom/Character(s): NJPW / Wrestling / Zack Sabre Jr x F!Reader
Warnings: none
Wordcount: 785
Summary: Reader is invited to an office christmas party but gets unwanted questions of when she is going to have a family so Zack steps up as her date.
@12daysofchristmas
She had been roommates with Zack since they were in their late 20s, at first it was just an add searching for a roommate but eventually they became really good friends.
Since Zack wrestled all over the world sometimes it was months since they saw each other and she was in charge of paying the bills and feeding the cat, they had a stable friendship but for the most part they didn’t go outside together, they had separate groups of friends and since she wasn’t on the wrestling scene she didn’t want to get involved and Zack was very respectful in that regard.
After working for her office for many years and getting picked on for never bringing a date, she was talking to another friend who was over for dinner one night, Zack was supposed to be on his room but accidentally overheard them.
When her friend left Zack came out to watch a movie with her on the living room.
“Did you have fun?”
He asked.
“Sure, we left you some salad on the fridge if you want it”
“Thanks, I’ll leave it for tomorrow”
Zack started hugging a pillow from the couch, she was watching tv but she suddenly felt his eyes on her.
“I heard you have the annual Christmas party on Friday”
She paused the tv and looked at him while nodding.
“Yeah, I just want to get over with it”
"I'll be your date for the party if you don't have one yet"
“W-what?”
“Yeah, I know how much you hate those and if I can help you get through that night I’ll do it”
She was still too perplexed and trying to understand, he never intervened in that way so she didn’t get his change of heart.
“Are you sure?”
She asked with a confused look on her face that made Zack smile.
“Hey, why are you so surprised?”
“I don’t know, it’s not the kind of thing we do together usually”
She explained.
“Maybe it’s time for a change”
Zack said getting up.
“Just tell me the time we leave and I’ll be ready”
Zack left for his room but she was still weirded out by his offer, she wasn’t complaining but it was uncharacteristic of him to volunteer for a party. While in the other hand, Zack had heard her complaining about the people on her office getting on her nerves about getting married, especially her boss who was happily married and had 3 children.
Zack had a plan for the party but since he knew she wouldn’t like it he had to do it before she had the opportunity to back off.
The week passed by quickly and they finally went to the party, she walked close to Zack but not enough to be touching, she said hi to some of her coworkers, then she had to talk to her boss, she had told Zack to stay back but to her surprise he came after her a few seconds after she greeted her boss.
“And who is this handsome gentleman?”
Her boss asked watching as Zack put an arm around her shoulder.
“Well, he’s my…”
“Her husband, nice to meet you, she’s told me lots of good things about you over the years”
He put his hand out, the woman shook his hand but was very confused because of what he said.
“Ohh I thought you were single?”
Zack immediately intervened.
“Well I’m kind of in the public eye so we keep everything low key”
Zack paused talking to look at her with a warm smile.
“Right, darling?”
“Y-yes! That’s why I couldn’t talk about it”
The woman seemed pleased to hear she was actually married the whole time which as odd but it was better than the nagging she normally did, Zack had actually come to save her and she was grateful even if he didn’t tell her beforehand that he would lie.
“Well I’ll leave you two lovebirds to enjoy the rest of the night, I need to go back to my table, thanks for coming guys”
Her boss finally went away and she finally dropped her smile, she hit Zack in the chest.
“Ouch”
“Why did you do that?”
“I wanted to help”
He shrugged his shoulders, she had a hand over her face.
“You should have told me!”
He just laughed and she hit his arm this time.
“I knew you wouldn’t go with my idea, but see now no one will tell you anything because you have a hot husband”
She laughed with him.
“Thanks for doing this, I really owe you”
“Go get your husband some food and we’ll be even”
He winked at her.
“Right away, my dear”

He would be a great father
Matt Jackson
When Matt thought you were messing with him when you told him you were pregant. He thought you were playing a joke, although there was a bit of fear in his eyes.
Not because you were pregnant but because you were just pregnant a few months ago. He was more confused on how you were already pregnant again.

He would love that child to death and protect the hell out of them
At times it was like Zack was also pregnant because he swore he was getting your pregnancy symtoms
He would get you whatever you were craving at whatever time
Sometimes he would judge your weird food combinations
Zack is the dad who would be holding three cameras all at diffrent angles to get the perfect shot of your kids christmas concert
He would play with your kid for hours outside and whever you went out it was like he was preparing for a zombie apocalypse
The man carried everyting needed to preform open heart sugery on him at all times, it was almost concerining
Nic Nemeth
Nic always wanted to be a father but he accepted early on it just simply wasn't going to happen
Relationships just never seemed to work out for him, that was until he ran into you one day. And I mean ran into you. Nic had physically run into you at a show one day.
From the moment he saw you he fell in love, you were the girl of his dreams and he knew he couldn't mess this relationship up
For once Nic felt like thing would work out for him
When you told him you were pregnant it was the best day of his life
He coudn't wait to be a father! The thought of being a older dad never bothred Nic, he was just happy he could finally do the one thing he wanted most
He would build you a beautiful nursary and love that child so much
Samoa Joe
You just know Joe would be a massive teddy bear
He would take such good care of you and your baby
If someone even dared to look in your direction he would go into attack mode, he was exteemly overprotective in the best way possible

He would probbaly eat all of your cravings with you so you didn't feel alone
He would confort you during all of your emotional outbirsts and show you so much love
This man's love language is acts of service and physical touch to you know he won't let you lift a finger during your pregnancy

Windy City Riot preview
Tumblr media
Tetsuya Naito vs. Jon Moxley - This match was announced back in January, but it was only six days ago that Naito's IWGP world heavyweight championship was put on the line.
The IWGP world title is essentially a 2021 reboot of the prestigious IWGP heavyweight championship, which was introduced in 1987. Few non-Japanese wrestlers have held either version of the title; if Moxley wins here, he would join Vader, Salman Hashimikov, Riki Chosu, Scott Norton, Bob Sapp, Brock Lesnar, AJ Styles, Kenny Omega, Jay White, and Will Ospreay. Mox would also be the only man to have held the top men's title in WWE, AEW, and NJPW. New Japan has already coined the term "global grand slam" for this potential achievement.
A Moxley world title win would be pretty wild for New Japan. Typically the top belt is heavily protected, and mainly passed around a small group of tippy-toppy guys who are full-time on the Japanese tours. Mox is a part-time special attraction for New Japan, who mainly works one-off appearances in between his dates for AEW. Putting the title on him--outside of Japan, no less--would probably be more of a publicity stunt than a long-term direction, and I suspect they'd get it off of him ASAP. But I can see them pulling such a stunt right now, since Naito doesn't need a long title reign, and you can always switch the title at Dontaku (May 4) or Dominion (June 9) or Forbidden Door (June 30).
The match itself should be pretty damn good. Naito hasn't wowed me against SANADA or Yota Tsuji, but I figure Moxley (and a US audience starved for hot New Japan matches) can make the difference. Every near-fall should mean something. Could Moxley really win the big one? Could Naito really beat the top western wrestler outside of WWE? Could we really see an IWGP championship change hands in Chicago? Could Naito really close the show by speaking English? I don't know about you, but I'm pretty pumped for this.
My brain says Naito will keep the belt until January. My gut says I should listen to my brain. But my heart says fuck that shit, go Mox.
Nic Nemeth vs. Tomohiro Ishii - Nemeth is not defending his IWGP global title here. The original plan was for him to make his first defense against Hiroshi Tanahashi on April 6, but that got delayed by Tana's ankle injury. So I guess the idea is that Nemeth won't defend the title until Tana is ready for the shot he was promised. Of course, if Ishii wins here, he'll obviously earn himself a title match later on.
As Dolph Ziggler, Nemeth spent much of his WWE career in roughly the same level Ishii has found in New Japan, as the guy who can deliver a big match and threaten to beat the top guys without ever really making it to the top. The challenge for Nemeth now is to prove he can go beyond that role, both here with this new championship and in TNA where he's chasing their world title. We'll see how well Nemeth fares in New Japan, but for right now he's not booked against Ishii to lose.
Matt Riddle vs. Zack Sabre Jr. - This is for Riddle's NJPW World television title, so this match will have a 15-minute time limit. Riddle won the belt from Hiroshi Tanahashi in February, who won it from Sabre back in January. So this is Sabre's big chance to get the belt back, and he does want it, but he's really looking past that to get in the hunt for the IWGP world title. This should be a good mix of styles, but they'll have a hard time convincing me Sabre is going to win. Champ retains.
Eddie Kingston & ? & ? & ? vs. Gabe Kidd & ? & ? & ? - This is billed as a "riot rules" match, so there will be no tagging in or at and no disqualification, so the two teams can just brawl all over the place. Six of the eight participants will not be revealed until they make their entrances. This match came about after Kingston and Kidd went to a double count-out in January.
The structure of the match is weird because you'd think Kidd would just team with the rest of the Bullet Club War Dogs, except then it'd be 5-on-5 and David Finlay would be the focus instead of Kidd. Assuming Finlay isn't involved, it'd make sense for Kidd's partners to be Alex Coughlin, Clark Connors, and Drilla Moloney. But that's so obvious that there'd be no reason to keep it a secret if that was the actual plan. And now it seems like they couldn't do that even if they wanted to, since Coughlin abruptly announced his (legit?) retirement. I hope at least one guy on Kidd's team is a genuine surprise and a new War Dog. But I'm not confident we'll get three important surprises on his side.
I won't even hazard a guess who'll be on Eddie's team. It could be obvious choices like Homicide, Mark Briscoe, or Angel Ortiz. Or it could be guys that you'd never see coming but make sense if you know the lore. Or it could be the usual guys who work midcard matches on STRONG shows, and it'll just be like "yeah, okay, I guess."
I assume the destination is Eddie vs. Kidd for the STRONG men's title, which is the only belt Eddie has left since their last encounter, and the only one Kidd was interested in. If so, I think Kidd needs to pin the champion to end this match.
Mustafa Ali vs. Hiromu Takahashi - Ali is the TNA X division champion, but the title is not at stake in this match. This is his New Japan in-ring debut, although he appeared in a January video package to set up this match, shortly after exiting WWE. Ali is a local guy from Bolingbrook, so he should get a hero's welcome nonetheless. Hiromu has apparently brought at least one of his stuffed cats, which is a big deal to me because he doesn't use them enough these days.
This a treat for me since it'll be the first time I get to see Hiromu wrestle in person since he broke his neck in 2018. Hopefully things go better this time! Even so, I think Ali really ought to win in his first match with the company.
Jack Perry vs. Shota Umino - Perry showed up in New Japan back in January to sneak-attack Umino for no obvious reason. That led to a match on March 6, where Perry won and officially joined the House of Torture. Shota has been looking to avenge that defeat with a pinfall over Perry ever since; this may be his last chance to get it.
Perry is still under AEW contract, but he hasn't wrestled for the group since August 31, when he was suspended over a backstage altercation with CM Punk. (You might have heard about it.) That incident led to Punk being fired the day before an AEW pay-per-view in Chicago. Since then it's been an open question how Perry would be received in Chicago, and how he would be presented to handle that. I have to say, "put him in House of Torture" never would have occurred to me.
I expect Perry to pull every trick in the book to get heel heat and milk it for all it's worth. But it probably won't be a typical House of Torture match, if only because I doubt they're flying in EVIL, Dick Togo, SHO, Yujiro Takahashi, and Yoshinobu Kanemaru just to do run-ins. I suppose Perry could get the last laugh in this feud, but something tells me he'll put over Shota on his way out of New Japan, to set up his return to AEW.
El Phantasmo & Hikuleo vs. Shane Haste & Mikey Nicholls vs. Tom Lawlor & Fred Rosser vs. Royce Isaacs & Jorel Nelson - ELP and Hiku issued an open challenge to defend their STRONG tag team title against any three teams. This is a standard four-way tag match, so each team gets a corner, and only two men can legally be in the ring at any time. The legal men can tag in anyone from any team. The first man to score a fall on any opponent will win the match and the title for his team.
The three challenger teams have all been mainstays of the STRONG brand, back when New Japan had a dedicated roster for taped weekly television in the US. Nowadays, though, the brand is just used for the occaisonal US-based pay-per-view, loaded up with key guys from the Japanese roster. That transition worked out well for Haste and Nicholls, who became a fixture in Japan. Not so much for former STRONG headliners Lawlor and Rosser; the story of their gradual reconciliation and alliance is barely a blip on the radar. Nelson and Isaacs are even deeper in obscurity; if this match was a three-way I don't even think they'd be on the card.
I don't see any point in changing the tag title here. The best reason to do it is if Phantasmo and Hiku are splitting up to work as singles. The next best reason would be if New Japan wants to put a new coat of paint on the STRONG brand and its titles, and they've shown no interest in doing that. I think the champs retain, and take the belts back to Japan until the next US show.
Stephanie Vaquer vs. AZM - Vaquer's STRONG women's title is up for grabs, but her CMLL women's world title is not. I'm still getting acquainted with both of these women; maybe seeing them live will really make them stick with me. I expect at some point Vaquer will drop the STRONG belt to someone on the STARDOM roster, but I don't think it'll be tonight.
Minoru Suzuki vs. Ren Narita - In January 2023, Suzuki and El Desperado unexpectedly made the save for Narita against the House of Torture. The unlikely trio fell apart in December when Narita betrayed Shota Umino to join the House of Torture. Since then we've seen Despy and Shota square off with Narita, but this is the first time he's had to face Suzuki.
Suzuki is the kind of guy who makes House of Torture bullshit more interesting, because he's arguably more evil and sadistic than the heels without needing any of their nonsense. Even so, I have to think Suzuki's role is to put over the rising young guy. But I'll be curious to see how Narita can pull this one off without a lot of run-ins.
Mina Shirakawa & Viva Van vs. Trish Adora & Alex Windsor - A week ago I couldn't even spell "Mina Shirakawa," and I didn't know anything about her. Now I know she's the woman who keeps running out to kiss Mariah May and drink champagne. So there you go.
I'm guessing the point of this match is to have a woman ready to challenge the winner of the STRONG women's title match. Adora already had her shot, and I don't expect her to get another so soon. So I'm thinking Shirakawa wins the match for her team.
Matt Vandagriff vs. Zane Jay - This is billed as a "strong survivor" match; it's a battle between two LA Dojo trainees, with the winner earning the right to be on the next US-based show. Apparently Vandagriff is 3-0 in this format. Let's just assume he improves to 4-0.

Rebbie's Wrestling Reviews - Matches I Loved
Zack Sabre Jr. def. Connor Mills by pinfall in 21:25
This was technical wizardry as you expect from Sabre Jr. and Mills met him every step of the way. Great strikes and just beautiful submission offence that was truly mesmerising to see live. I don't have a clue how they do it. Mills gave just as good as he got here, and he didn't look out of place. In fact, they had a match that I loved, and I fully appreciate ZSJ’s matches now. It's hard to truly sum up what happens in one of these matches but it was simply awesome. Great finish, and the Zack Driver was wild! I just love the way he peppers his foes with shots and is always shifting with these submissions. Amazing stuff. We also got to chant “Fuck the Tories”, and that was pretty awesome!

The Official, NEW New TMHWMP Definitive Timeline
I figured it was about time I stopped talking and starting doing, so here it is: the official, final, definitive timeline of the relaunched "Take My Hands, Wreck My Plans" ficverse.
As you may have previously seen, I'm scrapping everything that has heretofore been written as part of TMHWMP (everything) and rewriting it as a series of interconnected one-shots (and probably a few mini-series) spanning the course of Nellie's career and relationships. And because of that, I figured a timeline would be useful to help you lovely people who have stuck with me to make sense of it all―especially since I won't be writing or posting the forthcoming fics in chronological order, but instead as inspiration strikes.
A friendly heads-up before you proceed: There are a few minor spoilers ahead. However, I've left out the major things (*cough* who Nellie ends up with *cough*) and will be updating/adding to this timeline as I write more.
Again, thank you so much to everyone who's stuck with my creative process for Nellie (and Torrance!) over the last two years. It means more to me than you know.
* * * *
Nellie Keegan DOB: September 19, 1992 Hometown: Allentown, Pennsylvania
2012–2017: Nellie begins training at the Chikara Wrestle Factory in September 2012, shortly after her twentieth birthday. She subsequently makes her in-ring debut in July 2013 and wrestles for various independent promotions across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern U.S.
August 2017: Nellie debuts for World Wonder Ring Stardom as a participant in the 2017 5STAR Grand Prix. ― Meets Torrance Taylor.
January 2018: Nellie debuts for Revolution Pro Wrestling in the inaugural RevPro British Women’s Championship Tournament. She’s eliminated by Jinny in the semifinals. ― Meets El Phantasmo (Live at the Cockpit 24). They go out after the show and spend the entire night flirting with each other. They kiss, and Nellie considers inviting him back to her hotel just for the hell of it. But she decides against it, not wanting to risk developing a reputation backstage on her very first night working for a new promotion. However, she and Riley make plans to hang out the next day. ― After spending the day with Riley, Nellie meets Zack Sabre Jr. at the RevPro show that same night. They have instant, undeniable chemistry; but Zack doesn’t seem at all interested in any kind of relationship, and because Nellie has already sort of begun something with Riley, she and Zack just leave it at that. But they exchange numbers and keep in touch.
January–August 2018: Nellie continues working for RevPro and other BritWres promotions, and she and Riley develop a tendency to casually hook-up whenever she’s in the UK. Though she tries not to, Nellie also develops feelings for Riley—but he’s too emotionally clueless for a relationship.
August 2018: Nellie signs a contract with Stardom and returns to Japan for the 2018 5STAR Grand Prix. ― Nellie and Zack reconnect. Realizing that they’ll finally be spending a lot of time in the same places (Japan and England), they start dating. This creates some tension with Riley. ― Meets Jay White.
Late 2018–2019: Nellie becomes an official member of Suzuki-gun and begins managing Zack in both NJPW and RevPro while also focusing more on her career in Stardom. At the same time, Nellie begins hanging out more with Bullet Club thanks to Torrance and Riley. She and Zack make plans to move to Tokyo together after the new year.
2020: The pandemic hits. ― January: Nellie and Zack move to Tokyo. ― Late April: Under the stress of living together for the first time in a foreign country during a pandemic, Nellie and Zack break up. It’s a difficult but mutual decision. Nellie moves in with Torrance and Taiji Ishimori until she can get her own place. ― August: "Knights and Kings" ― October: The world slowly starts to open up again and, unexpectedly, Nellie begins a relationship with Jay White when he returns to Japan.
2021: Things get complicated. ― January: Following his loss to Kota Ibushi at Wrestle Kingdom 15, Jay takes a leave of absence from NJPW. The uncertainty of it concerns Nellie as she and Jay are so new into their relationship, but they get through it. ― Nellie is still a member of Suzuki-gun, and she continues to accompany Zack for his bigger matches. She believes they've both put any lingering romantic feelings behind them; but their friends―particularly Torrance―believe otherwise. ― May: After winning the NEVER Openweight Championship, Jay disappears from Japan again. ― August: With Jay unable to return to Japan due to visa issues, his and Nellie's relationship suffers, and they break up after months of uncertainty. ― September: "What Happens in London" → Single in England on her birthday, Nellie has some fun with Kyle Fletcher
More to come... 😉

WrestleDream thoughts and predictions
Tumblr media
WrestleDream is an up and coming PPV that will play tribute to the late Antonio Inoki.
Coming off of All In, All Out and Grand Slam, I feel like too much has been delivered too fast. I would have preferred if the dust has settled before the announcement of WrestleDream. Slow build to a PPV is a far better strategy. Despite another PPV coming so soon, I will go through each match up.
Bryan Danielson V Zack Sabre Jr
I haven't seen much of Zack Sabre Jr and there isn't much of a story here to really entice me. I know this will be a great match, but I would've of like more.
Due to Bryan winding down in the next year, I think Bryan goes over.
Adam Page V Swerve Strickland
I've been very impressed with Swerve since turning heel. The confrontation between Page and Swerve has felt personal. Swerve's shots at Page have truth and this is where Page needs to overcome Swerve and become reinvigorated. Adam Page wins this match.
Kris Statlander V Julia Hart
Julia's character work has been great and she continues to improve in the ring. It's hard to believe she went from a stale cheerleader character to being a key member of The House of Black. Julia still has plenty of time to grow and doesn't need this win. Statlander goes over.
Eddie Kingston V Katsuyori Shibata
I don't know anything about Katsuyori Shibata, but Kingston is on a roll and he will keep both belts.
MJF V The Righteous
This is a bizarre match. MJF is the champion, but he is wrestling a tag team that's barely featured on a PPV called WrestleDream? Surely this match could of been on Dynamite or Collision?
Adam Cole is injured and this is now a handicap match. Britt Baker posted images of the ankle that's broken in three different places.
It would make sense for the Righteous to win and take the ROH titles back to ROH where I prefer them to be, but I see MJF going over.
Christian Cage V Darby Allen
This is the match I'm most looking forward to. Christian has been on fire and Allen gave a great promo on Dynamite to really get the match hyped. I think Christian keeps the TNT title. Darby can take a loss.
The Young Bucks V The Gunns V The Lucha Brothers V Orange Cassidy & Hook
I'm not a fan of number 1 contender matches on PPV, but I think this will be a fun match. More Hook we see the better!
I see The Gunns winning this and going on to feud with FTR.
Ricky Starks V Wheeler Yuta
This is another match I don't care too much for. Maybe Collision will get me excited. Starks is on a roll and needs this more than Yuta. My prediction is that Starks wins.
Chris Jericho & The Golden Elite V The Don Callis Family
I like what's going on here. Don Callis is always entertaining and I like that Sammy Guevara has direction. I would like to see the feud between Jericho and Sammy to continue.
The Don Callis Family - more importantly Sammy - need the win to continue to gain momentum. Building Sammy should be priority here. I do think the Callis Family picks up the win.
FTR V Aussie Open
I'm not confident at all that Aussie Open getting the win. My pick is FTR.
Final Thoughts:
It's a mixed bag because I feel it's half empty. For every exciting match up, there is one that I'm not at all interested in. I hope I'm proven wrong and this PPV will deliver.

NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship: EVIL, Yujiro Takahashi & SHO [Bullet Club] © d. Hirooki Goto, YOSHI-HASHI & YOH [CHAOS] (SHO > YOH, pinfall, 9:37) - House Of Torture succeed their 1st defense
SANADA [Los Ingobernables] d. Great O-Khan [United Empire] (O’Connor Bridge, 13:21)
Tetsuya Naito [Los Ingobernables] d. Jeff Cobb [United Empire] (Destino, 15:34)
IWGP US Heavyweight Championship No-DQ Match: Hiroshi Tanahashi d. KENTA [Bullet Club] © (High Fly Flow from a ladder, 22:40) - KENTA fails his 1st defense - Tanahashi is the 12th champion
IWGP World Heavyweight Championship: Kazuchika Okada [CHAOS] © d. Will Ospreay [United Empire] (Rainmaker, 32:52) - Okada succeeds his 1st defense
The year of Okada begins proper, beating the pretender Ospreay. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: the angle with one man declaring himself the true champion is a very good and traditional wrestling trope, everyone just hated it because it was Ospreay. Afterwards, Naito challenged Okada to be his next defense. Okada closed out the show tearfully imploring Antonio Inoki to come back to the ring (it won’t happen, the man is not in good health in any way). The Empire did not have a good night once again at WK, with Cobb and O-Khan both losing. O-Khan of all of them should have won.
Tananashi does the highest Fly Flow he’s ever performed, regaining the US title back from KENTA. Does make me wonder where we go from here.
The interminable House Of Torture bullshit continued tonight, with Goto demanding a rematch for what are quickly becoming the Comedy titles again, and EVIL/Yujiro demanding a shot at the IWGP tag belts in return. Stay tuned. Toru Yano does NOT become the first provisional KOPW2022 champion, instead the King Of America Minoru Suzuki does. Yano will get it soon enough I am sure.
The IWGP junior tag match was innnnteresting -- it actually became Flying Tiger v. Mega Coaches, after Bullet Club’s Cutest Tag Team was removed from the match once it was it finally proven once and for all that Sudden Death was a loaded-boot superkick, so ELP was kicked out of the match. Nice to see that FINALLY paid off.
Talents from two other companies (well, three if you count CIMA) made featured appearances tonight. STARDOM’s match being featured on the main card rather than as a pre-show (THREE pre-show matches?! At least one of them has some value, as now Master Wato can challenge for the IWGP junior title.) is a big deal, and hopefully will lead to more STARDOM featuring on big NJPW shows.
During the intermission, the entire NOAH roster that is booked for Saturday’s big NJPW v. NOAH show in Yokohama appeared, lead by Keiji Muto and Kongo’s leader Kenoh. Shingo Takagi and BUSHI were the lone NJPW reps to stare them down, however Takagi decided not to brawl with them, leading Kenoh to call Shingo a coward.
NOAH ran a show at Korakuen Hall earlier today as well. I will write about that tomorrow however, along with other shows from all over Japan. I have other things to tend to today, including a podcast later tonight, so I’m leaving this post with just WK16.
The next NJPW show is the big NJPW v. NOAH rally at Wrestle Kingdom 16 in Yokohama Arena this Saturday. Once again, this will ONLY be on ABEMA PPV first-run, only coming to NJPWWorld (and possibly Wrestle Universe and/or FITE TV) later on.
Wrestle Kingdom 16 in Yokohama Arena - 1/8/2022, Kanagawa Yokohama Arena (ABEMA PPV; NJPWWorld on tape delay)
Kosei Fujita v. Yasutaka Yano
Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Satoshi Kojima & Yuji Nagata v. King Tany, Muhammad Yone & Akitoshi Saito
SHO [Bullet Club] v. Atsushi Kotoge [STINGER]
Taiji Ishimori & Gedo [Bullet Club] v. HAYATA & Seiki Yoshioka [STINGER]
El Desperado & DOUKI [SZKG] v. YO-HEY & NOSAWA Rongai [Perros del Mal de Japon]
Tomohiro Ishii [CHAOS], Hirooki Goto [CHAOS], YOSHI-HASHI [CHAOS], Ryusuke Taguchi & Master Wato v. Daisuke Harada, Hajime Ohara, Daiki Inaba, Yoshiki Inamura & Kinya Okada
Minoru Suzuki [SZKG], Taichi [SZKG] & TAKA Michinoku [JTO] v. Takashi Sugiura [Sugiura-gun], Kazushi Sakuraba [Sugiura-gun] & KENTA [Bullet Club]

NJPW G1 CLIMAX 30 Day 8 Review (Oct 1st, 2020, Niigata・Ao-re Nagaoka)
Yota Tsuji vs. Gabriel Kidd  ***1/2
B BLOCK
Juice Robinson vs. Toru Yano  *
Hirooki Goto vs. Zack Sabre Jr.  **1/2
Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. YOSHI-HASHI  ****
KENTA vs. EVIL  **1/2
Tetsuya Naito vs. SANADA  ****
Photos.
This was a weird show from Niigata, it had three great matches, and three of the weakest of the tournament so far. Things started well with Young Lions Tsuji and Kidd going to a very good 15 minute time limit draw. This was exceptionally well worked and got super exciting as the clock was running out. They continued exchanging after the bell before collapsing.
B Block action on this eve kicked off with possibly the worst match of the tourney so far. Yano matches are hit and miss for me, some I think are hilariously inventive in their silliness (the match with EVIL on Tuesday), and others I just think are ruined by their preposterousness (the SANADA match from Day 2), and I thought this one just sucked. It had all the nonsense; Yano taping Juice’s legs together in the entrance way and Juice having to hop his way to the ring to beat the count, all the ridiculous turnbuckle spots. The finish came at 6:42 when Juice countered a school boy with a cradle for the three count and put an end to Yano’s undefeated streak. ZSJ and Goto had a very interesting match next. The work was good, no doubt, but it only went 3:59 and was worked as a sprint. Zack targeted Goto’s injured shoulder by locking on armbars and a Manjigatame. Goto hit an Ushigoroshi, then went for GTR, but Sabre counters into the European Clutch to take the 2 points. The brevity of this possibly isn’t a good sign for Goto’s shoulder.
After intermission, we had another great YOSHI-HASHI outing in this G1. Of course he was in there with one of the greatest workers to have ever lived, but he held his own here. The crowd were more into this than anything on the show up to this point, as the Japanese audience love an underdog, and there is no greater underdog than YH. They got great drama out of the Butterfly Lock, which Tana was trapped in forever, and you really bought that maybe this could be the finish, but of course, The Ace got to the ropes. Tana turns Karma into Twist and Shout, then YOSHI hit a Dragon Suplex and a Meteora, the follows up with Kumagoroshi for a close 2 count. Tanahashi ducks a Lariat attempt and hits Sling Blade, follows up with the High Fly Attack, and the High Fly Flow to take the win in 18:41 of excellent action.
Nefarious Bullet Club heels EVIL and KENTA squared off next in a painfully average match. These guys had a really great match in last years G1, but this certainly wasn’t that. They heeled around for a bit, and Dick Togo kept getting involved. KENTA floors Togo with his briefcase, then nails EVIL with it, hits the top rope double stomp and Busaiku Knee for a near fall. EVIL escapes a Go 2 Sleep attempt, and scores a nearfall of his own with Darkness Falls, and another with his big Darkness Lariat. KENTA starts killing EVIL with strikes, which brings Togo in again. KENTA gets him up for Go 2 Sleep, but EVIL sneaks up and hits a low blow, followed by the STO to take the win at 15:40. Whatever.
And in the main event, IWGP Double Champion Tetsuya Naito took on LIJ stablemate and hometown boy, the winless SANADA. This was only their second match together, with the previous bout being in the 2018 G1. It was another excellent main event for Naito, who has been more motivated in this G1 then he has in a while, but I'm still not fully sold on SANADA. He’s a great worker (when he wants to be), and has a great look and presence, but he just has no personality or charisma, which sometimes makes it difficult to get fully invested in some of his matches. With this being the All Hallows season, imagine, if you will, that Michael Myers went to a Halloween party as Keiji Muto... Well that’s SANADA. Now the match was great, but in keeping with most of the main events of this years G1 so far, it was very long, and long matches have a tendency to feel even longer in this environment. They were teasing going to a time limit draw, much like Naito’s match with ZSJ, but it didn’t happen, also much like that match. There were also some crazy spots, namely, SANADA blocking a top rope Frankensteiner and hitting a sort of GTR off the top, which looked really nasty, then hit a beautiful Tiger Suplex for a near fall. Naito fought back, finally hitting the Frankensteiner, and scoring a near fall with Esperanza, his reverse Destino. A Destino attempt is countered into the TKO. After an exchange of elbows, Cold Skull escapes Valentia and locks on the Skull End, and just like he always does, releases the hold as Naito passes out, goes up top for the Moonsault... and eats nothing but canvas. What is it they say about the definition of madness doing the same things repeatedly and expecting different results? Naito hits a running Destino for a near fall, then hoists him up for Valentia, but SANADA knees his way free, Muto style. SANADA hits a Destino of his own, then a Moonsault to the back, and follows up with another to the front to take the win over the Double Champ at 27:08, to finally get on the scoreboard and likley set himself up for a Title shot in the coming months.

New Japan Pro Wrestling - New Japan Cup 2020 Predictions
Tumblr media
New Japan Pro Wrestling will start putting on shows this month following the Covid-19 pandemic. Following the Together Project Special on the 15th June, it’s back to business as usual with the New Japan Cup.
The opening brackets already promise some incredible matches, with callbacks to various feuds from several years past. Whether the lack of crowd will have an impact on the wrestlers is yet to be seen but if it doesn’t, NJPW will come back into the limelight in style.
Hit Read More to see my predictions for the opening bracket matches.
Togi Makabe vs Yota Tsuji
Tumblr media
Makabe makes his 13th entry into the New Japan Cup against the Young Lion Tsuji, who has talked a big game about beating his former mentor. A reliable ring hand, Makebe can afford a loss here against his prodigy. Tsuji has a bright future ahead of him and while it’s likely he’ll fall at the next hurdle a first round win is a push in the right direction. Winner: Yota Tsuji.
Tomohiro Ishii vs El Desperado
Tumblr media
A tough one to call. Ishii, like Makabe, is a grizzled veteran who doesn’t necessarily need the win, but after making it to the semi-finals last year it seems unlikely he’d crash out in the first round. I’m expecting some stiff back and forth between the two, before El Desperado takes things up a gear and runs circles around the Stone Pitbull for much of the match. Still, this is likely Ishii’s night. Winner: Tomohiro Ishii.
Toru Yano vs Jado
Tumblr media
These two have a long history together and this will likely put an end to Yano’s antics early. Jado will benefit from interference from his Bullet Club companions and head into the second round, where his run will end. Winner: Jado.
Tomoaki Honma vs Hiromu Takahashi
Tumblr media
This is an easy. Takahashi is once again the Junior Heavyweight Champion after his return from a broken neck and has his eyes set on Los Ingobernables de Japon leader Tetsuya Naito. There is no way NJPW will slow his momentum. While Honma will put in a good showing, it’ll be his shoulders on the mat for the three count. Winner: Hiromu Takahashi.
Kazuchika Okada vs Gedo
Tumblr media
This prediction is based on the practicality of no-crowd shows. Gedo’s betrayal of Okada was one of the most shocking moments in NJPW history and if he went over Okada for the second time, he would have volcanic heat. Unfortunately, no crowd means a more muted reaction and Gedo undoubtedly knows this, so this will short and sweet, with the Rainmaker standing tall. Winner: Kazuchika Okada.
Yuji Nagata vs Minoru Suzuki
Tumblr media
There’ll be nothing pretty about this match. Two mean-spirited legends with nasty intentions, working stiff in an effort to put the other down for good. Neither man has anything to prove in New Japan (although Suzuki’s lack of main event gold is bitter pill to swallow) but Nagata has toppled the New Japan Cup twice before so I think the leader of Suzuki-Gun will get the win here. Winner: Minoru Suzuki.
Yuya Uemura vs Yoshinobu Kanemaru
Tumblr media
This match is closely linked to the Nagata-Suzuki match. Uemura was trained by the former and has had no shortage of issues with the latter, so it make sense to give the Young Lion a push and potentially set him up against Suzuki later in the tournament. It won’t be an easy win though, probably ending in a flash pinfall over Suzuki-Gun’s tag team general. Winner: Yuya Uemura.
Gabriel Kidd vs Taiji Ishimori
Tumblr media
The last match in the left bracket of the New Japan Cup pits Brit wrestling technician Gabriel Kidd against Bullet Club’s lightning fast Bone Soldier. Honestly, it would be a surprise to see Kidd go over in this one. Ishimori has the speed advantage, incredible strength for his stature and momentum in New Japan. It will be a close match, but Bullet Club will notch up another win here. Winner: Taiji Ishimori.
Hiroshi Tanahashi vs Taichi
Tumblr media
It’s hard to bet against the Ace. While Taichi had a stellar 2019 and is more accustomed to his role as a heavyweight, Tanahashi has to be the odds on favourite in this match. The Black Saint will look in defeat though, with several near falls to keep his momentum going. Winner: Hiroshi Tanahashi.
Kota Ibushi vs Zack Sabre Jr
Tumblr media
This is probably the cruelest first round match because these two truly deserve a shot at going all the way, despite both having a New Japan Cup win. This will be one of the standouts of the tournament. Ibushi and Sabre have incredible chemistry and their clash of styles really shines in these big matches. Ibushi has so far had Sabre’s number, winning four of their six matches, but I think the Suzuki-Gun second-in-command will steal it here. Winner: Zack Sabre Jr.
Ryusuke Taguchi vs SANADA
Tumblr media
While Taguchi cannot be underestimated, SANADA has gradually been building a groundswell of support, taking some of the top stars to their limits and looking like main event material. This will feature plenty of back and forth, and Cold Skull will be on the ropes for some of it, but he’ll be standing tall at the end. Winner: SANADA.
Shingo Takagi vs SHO
Tumblr media
Bad blood between these two has building since Takagi first entered the Junior Heavyweight division. Now a heavyweight, he currently holds the NEVER Open Weight belt and probably has less to lose than SHO, the powerhouse of Rappongi 3K. This will be a lightning fast, innovative bout with plenty of bone-crunching, snug shots and a battered and bruised SHO walking out the victor, setting a future NEVER Open Weight title match and establishing him as a singles star. Winner: SHO.
Hiroyoshi Tenzan vs YOSHI-HASHI
Tumblr media
One of the few truly throwaway matches in the tournament, it honestly doesn’t matter which man wins because there’s no way either will make it past the second round. With nothing on the line, it’s simply a case of going out there and putting on a good match with YOSHI-HASHI probably picking up the win. Winner: YOSHI-HASHI.
YOH vs BUSHI
Tumblr media
Again there’s very little riding on this match, unlike the SHO and Takagi bout. BUSHI is a little aimless at the moment, Takahashi is Junior Heavyweight Champion and Takagi has moved up to the heavyweights, leaving him bereft in the tag division, so he should probably take the rub after a decent 50/50 match. Winner: BUSHI.
Satoshi Kojima vs EVIL
Tumblr media
Again, the brackets fall apart a little bit with (if I’m honest) all of the potential winners already in. Kojima has nothing to prove and EVIL is desperate for some direction, lacking some of the finesse of his tag partner SANADA. I’m putting EVIL over here in fairly quick fashion, reasserting him as the powerhouse he can be and hopefully jump-starting his momentum a little bit. Winner: EVIL.
Hirooki Goto vs Yujiro Takahashi
Tumblr media
The final opening round and another match with little on the line in terms of story. Goto is probably the favourite going, with three New Japan Cups and a tendency to find that showstopper form when placed in a tournament. However, this year’s edition is going to be high on quality but short on surprises so it would be nice to see the underdog Takahashi pick up the win here. Winner: Yukiro Takahashi.
The Tournament Going Forward...
While I’m not going to do match predictions for the whole of the New Japan Cup, I am going to speculate on a few of the possible outcomes.
Firstly, there are plenty of wrestlers in this year’s brackets that do not need the win this year. In fact, Okada and Tanahashi will both go out in the second round if my predictions prove true. This is because they will go up against Minoru Suzuki and Zack Sabre Jr respectively.
Personally, I think the best possible story for the New Japan Cup is Sabre finally taking the reins of Suzuki-Gun. Suzuki may be the best hard-hitting grandad in wrestling but he has done pretty much everything he can do in New Japan (he’s not getting the top title, not now). Sabre, on the other hand, is in his prime and I can’t think of a better way to prove his leadership credentials by proving that he is nastier and more vicious than his mentor in the finals.
If this doesn’t happen, there are two other potential story lines here. Hiromu Takahashi could rise like the phoenix, completing the feel-good arc after his return to action and potentially leading to a one-on-one with Tetsuya Naito (they’re different weight classes but who knows?).
The other option is to provide an up-and-coming star with some white hot momentum. SHO seems like a good option; he has been seriously impressive in the tag team division and has the core strength to go toe-to-toe with the heavyweights. Less likely is Taiji Ishimori, an awesome wrestler but someone who has plenty left to prove in the lower weight classes.
Let me know who you think will win the New Japan Cup.

Bent Trust

Pairing:  Zack Sabre, Jr/FC
Category:  Smut
Warnings:  Language, drinking, sex
79.          You belong to me and no one else and 92. I don’t fucking care
“I saw you.”  Walking into what was supposed to be your empty apartment you nearly jumped out of your skin as the voice of your boyfriend Zack Sabre Jr.  came from the darkened space.  Swallowing past the lump that had formed at his words you flipped on the light switch by the door.
“Why are you sitting in the dark?”  You asked with a smile as you looked at him, sitting there in the plush chair in his black Suzuki Gun track suit staring back at you with a cold expression.   “And what are you talking about? Saw me doing what?”  You really didn’t want the answer.  There was only one thing he could’ve seen you doing that would have him angry with you.
“You know exactly what I’m talking about.” Zack said quietly.  “I thought I told you I didn’t want you meeting him?”  You couldn’t look at Zack’s disappointed expression.  You knew he didn’t want you to meet up with your ex-boyfriend.  He had asked you not to and you had agreed.   You still had lingering feelings for your ex and he you and you were honest with Zack about that. Zack told you he felt it disrespectful for you to meet up with him.
“I’m sorry Zack.” You said moving to sit on the couch.  “I told him it wasn’t a good idea, but he kept asking and he made me feel bad so I agreed.   Nothing happened.”
“I don’t fucking care,” Zack spat and you cringed at the anger in his voice.  Zack had never spoken so crudely to you before.  “You meeting him is just the same as going out and fucking him.  It’s completely disrespectful to me.  My boys saw you out there with another man.  Laughing and having a great time with him.   How do you think that made me feel?”
Tears fell down your cheeks and you got to your knees moving to kneel in front of Zack.  Your hands raised to his face, cupping his cheeks and apologizing profusely.  You never considered he or any of his friends would see you with your ex.  Or how it would be perceived.  It wouldn’t go over well with Zack to be embarrassed and you realized he was within his rights to be upset with you.
“It won’t happen again.” You told him softly.  “I won’t talk to him or see him again. I promise.”
“How am I supposed to trust you?”  Zack said roughly pushing your hands away and getting to his feet, pacing angrily around the small living room.   “You already told me you wouldn’t go. Then the second my back is turned your off seeing him.  I’ve given you time.  You said you were getting over him. Were you lying to me about that too?”
You sat back on your heels, head lowered as you realized how badly you had hurt him.   You should have just told him the truth. Or held up your promise not to meet up with your ex.
“No Zack.  I am getting over him.  I want to be with you.  I just needed closure to move on.”   Pushing yourself to your feet you turned to Zack letting him see the honesty on your face.  “We broke up for a reason.  And I’m with you for a reason.”  You reached your hand out towards him, slowly letting it drop as Zack just stared back at it with a blank expression.  Tears fell down your face as Zack walked out your door mumbling he had to get away for a bit.   Falling back on your couch you stared at the door, wondering if you had just screwed up the best thing that had happened to you in a very long time.
Over the next few hours your phone calls and texts went unanswered until you finally gave up and went to bed, crying yourself to sleep.   You were startled awake by your front door slamming, heavy footsteps coming down the hallway towards the bedroom making you clutch the sheet to your chest as Zack appeared in your doorway.
“Zack,” You whispered in relief. “Where have you been?”
“It’s really none of your business.  Seems we can go places without telling each other.  Or lying about it.” Zack said, his words slurring slightly and you realized he was drunk.  It was surprising, he didn’t drink a lot.  Vegan alcohol could be hard to come by, but he had apparently made the effort tonight.  “The boys think you need to be punished. They had some rather creative ideas.  They think I need to show you that you belong to me and no one else.”  Zack smiled at you moving to the bed and climbing up it so he was hovering over you. “What do you think?  Should I show you that you’re mine?”
“Make me yours Zack.” You said grabbing the back of his head and pulling in for a kiss.  His tongue met yours and soon limbs were flying as you tore of each other’s clothes leaving your naked bodies pressed together.  You opened your legs letting Zack nestle between them, humming as his cock slid along your slit bumping over your clit.  Leaving your mouth he kissed down your neck as he drove his dick into you.  Your hands clutched his shoulders and legs wrapped around his waist as he pounded into you his teeth sinking into your shoulders as he moved.   His fingers found your nipples and plucked at them, teasing them into taut peaks and twisting them making you push your hips back into his thrusts as your pleasure built.
“You belong to me,” Zack growled in your ear, punctuating his words with a deep thrust making you squirm under him as he hit that perfect spot deep inside you.
“Only you Zack,” You moaned crying out as he pinched your nipples your body shuddering under him as you fell apart.
Picking up the pace of his thrusts Zack moved his hands to your ass lifting you up at an angle to bury himself deeper, making you whimper and moan underneath him as he came with a loud grunt, hips stilling as his cum shot into you.
As you lay with his head on your chest you ran your fingers through his hair as you slowly started to drift off.  Just before you feel asleep a question popped in your mind.
“Zack, what did you mean by punished? Punished how?”  You asked.
“You’ll see.”  Zack mumbled as he fell asleep.

G1 Climax 30 Day 9 thru 12 Preview
Right around here is my favorite stretch of the G1.  With the early tournament, the scoring doesn’t matter as much, because there’s plenty of time for someone to mount a comeback.    And in the last few days, you have a lot of matches that won’t affect the final outcome of the blocks.    But here in the middle is the sweet spot, because this is where the leaders will start to pull away, and guys will start getting mathematically eliminated.   So this is a good spot to take stock of where we’re at.
Day 9, A-Block, October 5, 2020
Shingo Takagi(2) vs. Yujiro Takahashi(0)
Jeff Cobb(2) vs. Jay White(6)
Kazuchika Okada(4) vs. Minoru Suzuki(6)
Tomohiro Ishii(2) vs. Taichi(6)
Kota Ibushi(6) vs. Will Ospreay(6)
I wasn’t super-interested in this card before, but now that I see the scores, this looks like a big deal.   I expected someone to hit eight points last week, but instead we have five guys tied at six.
You’d think Ibushi or Ospreay will come out with eight, but you know what?   Maybe they’ll go to a draw.   I’ve bee low-key rooting for a draw since last year’s G1, because I just sort of want to see it happen.   I think once it does, I’ll probably never care about it again, but you just never know.    A lot of these matches go really long, and it gets super-close to thirty minutes, so we’re clearly meant to anticipate a draw.   I think there was a draw in 2018′s G1, so it happens, just not often.
That’s my prediction for this match, mostly because this tournament seems really reluctant to give anyone an early lead, and also because Ibushi and Ospreay seem like heavy favorites to win the block.
Also, I’m kind of over both of these guys.   I got fed up with Ospreay over the bullshit that came to light during the #SpeakingOut movement, and I find his whole act this year pretty irritating.   I don’t know if that’s because I’m mad at him or not, but I feel like I’d be sick of him even if I didn’t know he tried to cover up for his buddies’ sex crimes.
As far as I know, Ibushi’s a cool dude, but I’m really having trouble understanding anything he does in the ring.   Like, he’s fighting a guy and then he gets beat up, and it doesn’t hurt him, and sometimes he’s invincible and sometimes he’s not, and there’s really no sense of why he wins or loses a match.    I don’t have these issues with his tag matches, but that’s probably because all of the focus is on Tanahashi being the weak link of their team, so it doesn’t matter as much as long as Tanahashi tells a story in the ring.
As far as the others go, I’m gonna guess that Jay and Taichi win, and Suzuki loses.    That way the score is completely fucked up, with two guys at 8 points, two guys at 7, and two guys at 6.
Also, we have Takagi vs. Yujiro, and if Yujiro loses this next match, he’ll be eliminated.   I’m pretty sure that’ll happen, because there seems to be no momentum with Yujiro, and also because I watched him cut a promo backstage about how getting his ass kicked in G1 matches is pleasing to him sexually.   Like he pointed at his crotch and everything, so the angle here is that Yujiro’s kink is to go 0-9 in a G1 block.
Day 10, B-Block, October 6, 2020
Juice Robinson(6) vs. EVIL(4)
Hirooki Goto(2) vs. Toru Yano(6)
Tetsuya Naito(6)  vs. YOSHI-HASHI(2)
Hiroshi Tanahashi(4)  vs. KENTA(4)
SANADA(2) vs.  Zack Sabre, Jr.(4)
Another interesting card, for entirely different reasons.   Naito and Yano have a chance to advance to 8 points, but Naito’s path looks a lot clearer, since he just has to beat B-Block’s resident jobber, Yoshi-Hashi.    Yoshi’s not as bad off as Yujiro Takahashi, but I doubt he’s gonna steal one from the double champion.
The only real question is whether Yano will hit 8 points as well, but I’m pretty sure Yano’s not winning the block, so it kind of doesn’t matter.   The only reason for him to keep winning matches here is so he can fuck up in some later match and pave the way for the real block leaders to settle it in the main event of Day 18.
More importantly, this night features my two favorite guys in the block going at it.    I dug SANADA vs. ZSJ at last year’s G1, so this ought to be fucking awesome too.
But karma demands a heavy price for this cool dudes match, and so we also have Juice vs. EVIL.    Hooooo boy this is gonna suck some ass.   I’m actually looking forward to it, even though I can’t stand these two jagoffs.   Here’s how I think this will go down
-Juice hops around like an idiot, and tries to get the “We Will Rock You” clap going.
-Juice shouts EEEEYAAAAA! like an idiot.   Several times.
-More “dancing” and clapping like a complete asshole.
-EVIL goes for a ballshot.
-EVIL goes for a ballshot.
-Dick Togo distracts the ref so EVIL can line up another ballshot
-Dick Togo goes for a ballshot.
-Juice shouts AAGAHYAAAAAAAA!  Like an idiot.
-Dick Togo garrots Juice so that EVIL can do the thing where he just forces the referee into the corner so he can’t see anything.   This allows Dick to go for another ballshot.
-Juice goes for a ballshot.
-EVIL goes for a ballshot.
-Dick goes for a ballshot.
-Red Shoes watches all of this and does nothing.
-They all just stand in the ring and trade ballshot attempts on each other for like five minutes, like Ric Flair chest chops, but stupider.   Juice screams like a monkey each time, whether he gets hit or not.
-EVIL wins with the Skull Crushing Finale, because for some reason the Miz’s stupid finisher hurts worse than getting hit in the balls fifty-eight times.   Juice cuts a promo backstage about how EVIL kicked his ass and he’s a worthless piece of shit, but he’s gonna go out and have Ruptured Testicle Beers tonight.
-Fuck both of these guys so hard.
Day 11, A-Block, October 7, 2020
Shingo Takagi vs. Kota Ibushi
Taichi vs. Jay White
Kazuchika Okada vs. Jeff Cobb
Tomohiro Ishii vs. Yujiro Takahashi
Minoru Suzuki vs. Will Ospreay
It’s kind of hard to picture the scoring situation this far out, but the Suzuki/Ospreay match ought to have some serious implications, since Suzuki should be at 6-8 points here, and Ospreay should be art 6-8 points, so this match is a chance for one of them to  take the lead, tie the leader, or just pull further ahead.
There’s a very real chance that Shingo Takagi and/or Jeff Cobb to get eliminated here.   If they don’t win a match on Day 9, then they absolutely have to win on Day 11, or they’re SOL.   I was going to add Tomohiro Ishii to this list, but he gets to fact Yujiro on this show, so he’s probably safe.
More and more, I get the feeling that this year’s A-Block is all about creating a weird logjam where like four or five guys are tied, or practically tied right up to the end.    I’m curious to see how well that shakes out.
Day 12, B-Block, October 8, 2020
Zack Sabre, Jr. vs. Toru Yano
Hirooki Goto vs. YOSHI-HASHI
Tetsuya Naito vs. Juice Robinson
EVIL vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi
SANADA vs. KENTA
I picked SANADA to win the whole tournament, but if he can’t beat ZSJ on Day 10, then this might be the night where he gets mathematically eliminated.   Personally, I think he’s just losing a lot of early matches to build suspense.    Then again, his only victory so far has been against Naito, which automatically puts him in line for a shot at the double-championship, right?   So maybe SANADA won’t win the G1, since he already has a title shot lined up.
I don’t see much else that interests me, except maybe this Goto vs. YOSHI-HASHI match, since they’re both co-holders of the NEVER trios title.    That could be something.
ZSJ vs. Yano could be good, but I find Yano matches very hit-or-miss.   He tends to do the same shit every match, and it just sort of works or doesn’t work, so the whole thing feels like I might as well skip to the finish.   It’s fun when he beats a guy I don’t like, and honestly, it’s fun if he beats a guy I do like, but when I’m less invested in the finish, it just feels dumb.   In this case, I don’t expect Zack to get very far in this tournament, so it kind of doesn’t matter who wins.
Then again, Dangerous Tekkers vs. Yano/Colt Cabana was pretty fun at World Tag League last year, so this might work out.    I dunno.   The only Yano match I could get into this G1 was the one with SANADA, and that was the very first one.    Even when he beat EVIL, it was still kind of hollow, because the match exposed EVIL as just being an unironic version of Yano’s schtick.    Like “Look at me, I’m exposing the turnbuckle to cheat, but I’m frowning when I do it, because I’m the kInG oF dArKnEsS.”   Fuck EVIL, he’s goth Yano.    There, I said it.

G1 Climax Night 4 preview
Tumblr media
Jay White (1-0, 2pts) vs. Tomohiro Ishii (0-1, 0pts) - This is for 2 points in B Block. White is the IWGP world champion, so if Ishii can beat him in this non-title match, he would likely get a title shot before the end of the year.
Because of this year's tournament format, Ishii is already in trouble coming into his second match. If he loses to Jay, he'll be at 0-2 while Jay improves to 2-0. If Jay goes 6-0 or 5-1, Ishii can't win the block. If Ishii and Jay tie at 4-2, Ishii can't win the block because winning here would give Jay the tiebreaker. So unless we get into weird edge cases, if Ishii loses here he will need Jay to finish at 3-3. That's technically possible, but realistically there's no way the world champion is going to collapse that badly. So basically, Ishii is behind the eight-ball, and he needs this win.
The good news for Ishii is that he's 3-1 against White in singles matches. Also, Ishii is just the type of guy they use to put over the champion at one of the big September/October shows, so it'd make a lot of sense to set that up with an Ishii win here. Although I can easily see Jay beating Ishii, I think it works better to keep Ishii alive and give Jay his own hole to climb out of.
Kazuchika Okada (1-0, 2pts) vs. Toru Yano (1-0, 2pts) - 2 points in A Block are at stake. Yano is a member of Okada's stable, CHAOS, but that won't ensure a clean fight. Yano is always pulling out different stunts and chicanery to keep his opponents guessing. Based on the tag match these two had on July 20, Yano is planning to hearken back to the mean brawler he used to be a decade ago, and mercilessly punish Okada. That said, Okada is 3-0 against Yano in one-on-one matches, so I wouldn't count on an upset. But it'd be cool to see.
Shingo Takagi (0-1, 0pts) vs. YOSHI-HASHI (0-0, 0pts) - This is for 2 points in D Block. I can't find any record of these two meeting one-on-one, which is surprising given how long they've been in the same promotion.
As usual, Yoshi is one of the biggest underdogs in the tournament, so on paper this looks like an easy win for a former world champion like Shingo. But I figure Yoshi is bound to score an upset or two, and Takagi can't afford to be one of them. Shingo should be favored to win most of his block matches, but he's already lost to Juice Robinson and his August 6 match against Will Ospreay could easily go either way A slip-up against someone like Yoshi could be disastrous for him.
That said, if Yoshi was going to beat someone at Shingo's level, I'd expect it to be scheduled to close the show, and this match is not. So I'm counting on a straightforward Takagi victory.
Zack Sabre Jr. (1-0, 2pts) vs. Aaron Henare (1-0, 2pts) - The winner gets 2 points in C Block. This looks like another first-time-ever singles match. Sabre is coming off of a tough win against KENTA, while Henare just won the biggest match of his career against Hiroshi Tanahashi. Hopefully they lay this out so Henare proves he can hang with a technical wizard like Sabre. However, I don't think Henare can score two upsets in a row. Sabre should improve to 2-0.
Tetsuya Naito & SANDA & BUSHI vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi & Tama Tonga & Jado - Tanahashi and Naito will headline the July 24 show, and Sanada vs. Tonga is booked for August 2. As usual, look for the guys who aren't in the G1 (Bushi and Jado) to lose the fall. In this case, I think Jado will get pinned.
Will Ospreay & Jeff Cobb & Great-O-Khan vs. EVIL & SHO & Dick Togo - So far every show on this tour has had a United Empire vs. House of Torture tag match. This seems to be the last one, at least for a while. The only block match it could possibly set up is Evil vs. Henare on August 7, and Henare ain't even in this one. Count on the Empire to clobber Dick Togo again.
Lance Archer & Taichi & TAKA Michinoku vs. Bad Luck Fale & Chase Owens & Yujiro Takahashi - This mostly about the fallout from Archer vs. Fale on July 20. Taichi vs. Owens is coming up, but not until August 5. Taka should get beat here.
Tom Lawlor & Royce Isaacs vs. JONAH & Bad Dude Tito - This is a rematch from July 20, and a preview of Lawlor vs. Jonah on July 30. I doubt it'll be a carbon-copy of the last match, but I'm not expecting to get much new out of it. This could go either way.
Juice Robinson & KENTA & El Phantasmo vs. Hirooki Goto & David Finlay & Ryohei Oiwa - Robinson vs. Finlay is coming up on July 26. Kenta vs. Goto is happening later on, on August 2. Oiwa's here to lose get pinned, so Juice's team has to win.

The New Japan Cup Brackets 2020
Tumblr media
Legit this could be the BEST tournament ever, and that’s saying something for NJPW when they put on superb ones every year.
Lets break it down and look into the potential Cup winners, and remember this isnt always won by the biggest name in the tournament and is mainly used to build a new star and give them legitimacy which more companies could take something big from.
Okada, Suzuki, Ibushi, ZSJ, Sanada, Ospreay. For me its out of those names, and surprisingly id rank Okada as the least likely. I see them saving Okada’s return to the gold/chase for the gold until the G1, or maybe even slightly different timing with the G1 being moved around this year.
Minoru Suzuki could really be the dark horse winner of this whole thing, I see his in-ring career slowly coming to a close and predict one big run left in his tank, what better way to do so than to have him win here and have him built for his final year or two as the established main eventer ALWAYS waiting around the champion to strike and finish his career on top.
Ibushi seems the prime candidate to take the win with most people but again the timing of the G1 could alter plans, I dont think they want potential G1 winners winning this so close together meaning they have to lose to the champion before the G1 and enter the biggest tournament on a downward turn. The prospect of Kota going through ZSJ, Tanahashi, Ospreay/Sanada or Shingo and then the finals just screams awesome matches all round, hell the top right part of the brackets is what has me so excited for this whole thing.
Zack Sabre Jr, the former NJ Cup winner is included by me here as he’s someone they decide to push massively every so often and is someone always ready for it, I dont think the timing will work for him this year but can never rule him out especially as his previous win was under slightly similar situations.
Sanada, one of my personal favorites to watch develop in NJPW and has long been ready to unleash for me on the title scene, the interesting tidbit here is that with the win comes the championship match against fellow LIJ member Naito. Im leaning to Sanada winning to have Naito’s first few challengers to his crown be fellow team mates, not to tease dissension in the faction but to have them all go close to their leader and come out of it looking better in the long run. Personally id be looking to have them all challenge and fail only for Sanada to gain another shot later in the year at the G1 and beat Naito, you would have to be careful to not have it follow the same as how they've built Sanada/Okada over the years though and at some point have Sanada take the title from Naito.
Ospreay, IF he can beat Shingo that will fire him into the heart of this tournament head first with everyone being VERY concerned at coming up against him.....that Shingo match is going to be superb I still go back and watch their bout from last year and am amazed every time, well done boys. The Ospreay heavyweight push will continue and develop more during the tournament, this is a long term build being done by NJPW to transition him from the Jr’s ranks upwards with him wanting to do both but ultimately this is where the future lies. His move to Japan has done wonders in them being able to put more focus on him and not worry about him missing big flights or getting his head turned by others, allowing them time to sufficiently build and get him ready for his eventual IWGP challenge....and it will come.
I really feel this could come down to either Suzuki or Sanada, and I doubt that many others go this way, but both would be VERY good winners for different reasons that the company could develop really well.
If we also look back at the chasing pack we cannot finish without mentioning the others who pose an outside threat to the victory, in those we look to Tanahashi, Ishii, KENTA, White, Shingo and EVIL. These wrestlers are all great but, for me, dont need the win, have other feuds waiting or are just in the right place wrong time situation. Tana doesn't need the win, though a title match with Naito would be interesting, Ishii seems to have other plans as does KENTA and White, and Shingo and EVIL both COULD have been in my proposed Sanada position but are behind him I feel in getting there just yet.
To round up this will be great, the top left of the brackets does look alittle ropey but that’s usually where New Japan thrives in pulling out something great that you dont expect. But this will be all kinds of greatness to the point this year where it MAY overshadow the G1.
Enjoy
Bye for now

Friday, September 18, 2020 Tokyo, Japan
It was nearly 3 a.m. when Nellie decided she should probably call it a night. A lot of the others—namely Los Ingobernables de Japon—were still going strong inside the club; everyone was excited for the start of the G1 Climax and that things finally seemed to be getting back to at least some sense of normal. But even though Juice and Jeff had tried to persuade her to stay, Nellie knew she’d regret it tomorrow if she did.
“Did you call the Uber?” she asked Zack as they stepped out onto the sidewalk. They lived in the same apartment building, so it only made sense to share a ride back. But Nellie knew that even if they didn’t, there wasn’t a chance in hell he would have left her to get home on her own. Not this late. Not after all she’d had to drink.
“Yeah.” He looked at his phone. “It says he’s four minutes away.”
She nodded as she looked down at her own phone and opened up Instagram. She’d posted a gallery of a few pictures from the night: one of everyone together at the hibachi restaurant, a couple obligatory bathroom mirror selfies of her and Torrance, another selfie of her and Zack on the rooftop. The post already had several dozen “likes” and a few comments. Jay had liked it; so had Riley, who’d also commented with a heart eyes emoji. She wondered if Jay had seen it. She wondered if Riley had noticed that Jay was in the first picture.
“Nell, you’re swaying,” Zack said with a bit of a laugh. He gripped her shoulders to steady her. “Are you alright?”
She smirked up at him. “I haven’t been this drunk in a while.”
“I know you haven’t,” he returned, and she wrapped her arms around his middle and hugged herself to him; she got affectionate when she drank. Zack reciprocated the embrace. “Did you have a good time?” he asked.
She nodded. “Yes. Thank you for throwing me a surprise birthday party.”
“Well, it was mostly Torrance. But I’ll go ahead and take all the credit.”
She laughed against him; but then the breeze picked up and she shivered. The temperature had dropped from what it had been earlier in the night.
“Are you cold?” Zack asked.
“Obviously.”
“I told you you should have brought a jacket.”
“And I told you I didn’t want to deal with bringing a jacket,” she returned.
Zack didn’t say anything in response to that. He just laughed and rubbed her back to keep her warm. Nellie’s conscience told her she should probably pull away; this wasn’t something exes did, even if they were still friends. Especially if they were still friends. But she didn’t want to pull away.
“I think this is us,” Zack said after a moment. He unwrapped his arms from around her and the chill in the air hit her again as a silver sedan pulled up to the curb. He confirmed it was their ride, and then he opened the back door and guided her into the car with a hand on the small of her back. And when she shivered that time, Nellie knew it wasn’t because of the cold.
* * * * * * * * * *
“You don’t need to walk me to my door,” Nellie said as they both stepped off the elevator onto her floor.
“Well, I am, so deal with it,” Zack returned. She rolled her eyes in amusement.
“Are you gonna tuck me into bed, too?”
“No, I only do that for Taichi now, sorry.”
She nodded. “So I’ve been replaced. I see how it is.”
“No,” he said. They slowed to a stop as they arrived at her apartment. “No one could replace you.”
A fuzzy, familiar feeling warmed Nellie’s stomach. “Well, thanks for walking me home,” she quickly said. Maybe if she could get inside, the feeling would just go away.
“Of course. I’m glad you had a good night,” he gently said; and the way he looked at her then was familiar, too. He hadn’t looked at her like that in two-and-a-half years, but she remembered it all too well. It pulled and tugged at her heart. And before she could tell herself not to, she wrapped her arms around his shoulders and hugged him. Zack pulled her close, tight. The warmth in her stomach grew.
This isn’t something exes do.
“Zack… what is this?”
“What’s what?” he asked.
“What we’re doing.” She pulled back at looked up at him. “The last few months… it’s felt like when we first met.”
She knew she didn’t need to explain what she meant; he knew. The flirting, the tension, the little gestures. It had been steadily building ever since she’d finally managed to get her own place after crashing with him for far longer than she’d intended upon uprooting her whole life to move from Philadelphia to Tokyo in February. It was funny how that worked, how there hadn’t been any of this tension during those months they’d lived together. It was almost as if the separation had created it. As if they’d realized they missed each other.
As if they’d realized that, maybe, they wanted to give them another shot.
“I don’t know, Nell,” Zack admitted. “I’ve been trying not to read into it.”
“What?” She couldn’t help her disbelieving scoff. “Please, you don’t read into anything,” she said.
But the look in his eyes said otherwise. “I do when it concerns you.”
Nellie shivered again. She needed to get inside; she might do something she’d regret if she didn’t. Their lips were too close.
She cleared her throat and stepped back from him. “Well, I should get some sleep.”
“Yeah… yeah,” Zack agreed. He rubbed the back of his neck, his senses returning to him. “‘Night, Nell.’”
“‘Night,” she returned, and she unlocked her door and pushed into her apartment. She needed water. She needed sleep and a clear head. It was just the alcohol; she didn’t need to revisit the past. She had plans to get together with Jay on Saturday, for crying out loud.
She sighed and got a glass of water from the kitchen, gulping half of it down right there. But before she retreated to her bedroom, she pulled her phone from her clutch and typed out a text to Jay. Made it home, she wrote and sent it off. Given the hour, she didn’t really expect a response. But she got one less than a minute later.
That’s good. I just got back to the hotel myself.
Nellie shouldn’t have been surprised to see that. She knew how Bullet Club partied.
Her phone buzzed again. Did you have a good night?
I did. But I’m definitely ready to crash. She pressed “send,” and then bit her lip in thought. I’m looking forward to Saturday, though, she added. Again, it wasn’t long before he responded.
I am too. I think I already know where we should go.
Nellie grinned. Well, don’t tell me yet. I like surprises.
She refilled the glass of water and walked back into her bedroom. Jay had already texted back by the time she toed off her shoes.
Good to know, he said, a winking emoji at the end of the message. It was Nellie’s cue to end the conversation. It was good to leave him wanting.
Goodnight Jay, she sent with a smiley face.
Sleep well, he returned, and Nellie set her phone on her nightstand and got ready for bed, doing her best to keep her thoughts looking forward to Saturday—and not back at whatever was going on between her and Zack.
