people really don’t like being told that they’re little piglets suckling on the teats of capitalism. must hurt especially too when a native person is calling you out for your hypocritical and privileged bullshit. if you have a “fuck you, got mine” mentality you are free to go.

I’m just not gonna molly coddle people because it’s the trendy thing to do. It doesn’t make me less of a nice or kind person because I’m not willing to offer sympathy to greedy and selfish people? Like you brought that downfall on yourself and chose to throw minorities under the bus for money. And I’m sorry some of you feel the need to defend people like that. That’s kinda sad, you poor little clout chaser. Anyways, the door has always been open, you’re free to leave. I definitely and most probably wouldn’t like your exclusionary classist bullshit anyways?

Except that’s exactly what I, and many other marginalized persons, did and had to do to protect ourselves from bigots. I had to give up a lot of my online presence and outreach because of these changes. I’m not sure what the implication is but I did in fact face the very issue you described. I lost things too? Everyone should have been considering a backup plan, not some -- and shocked pikachu face this is what happens. So I don’t sympathize, especially with content creators and other small business owners who did this to themselves. They had all of the time, the resources, and especially the reach to say “hey let’s go somewhere else, let’s do something new”... and instead, in majority, they clung to something that was inevitably going to break for its perceived convenience. You made your bed, so lie in it.
websites being headed by and controlled by fascists has always been the issue. these people are intentionally suppressing discussion and progress. this is a known truth. when websites before the main 3 – or whatever you call them – shut down, people warned that this sort of thing would happen. limiting yourself to and relying solely on these platforms for media engagement in many ways was boxing yourself into a corner. losing websites like twitter, reddit, tumblr, whatever is a problem because it leaves no room for criticism or community action. and this is by design. the site was f*cked as soon as it was bought. companies can always be bought and sold, and the people with that type of money and acumen tend not to be of the greatest moral fiber. but us minorities could see the writing on the wall, and the forest for the trees, and tried to warn people. and it was met with, no shit, feeds of discussion dismissing these fears and concerns. people straight up saying that we didn’t understand the challenges leaving the site posed to other users who “relied heavily” on it. people saying things like nourishing yourself by eating certain brands of food was tantamount to continuing use of a social media site. because it wasn’t lucrative to small business owners. because it wasn’t as fun when all your memes and precious fanart was there. because people didn’t want to put in the effort to create new spaces and leave the old one behind. people always had the ability to leave twitter, to delete their accounts and not support musk… but i guess because some of y’all were privileged enough to fly under the radar of bigots, that you justified that time spent there. and i find it a little funny that people are only now jumping on the bandwagon that this is a problem because it hurts small business owners. no one cared a lick when minorities brought it up the first time. you just kept using twitter.
