There was something there under the angry old man's voice. "I would never do something as ridiculous as 'boop' someone." And in the next microsecond, his finger was on his sister's cheek. "Boop."

As if things were not already out of hand. “The thought of you ‘booping’ people is actually… amusing.”

The word boop didn’t quite seem to fit with Pietro. Still, there was a ghost of a smile on her face. “People really won’t know what’s booped them, hm? I think many will find themselves outmatched.”

He did not know what was going on; he didn't quite follow trends or fads, but this one in particular had all the makings to be the most annoying. He used to be fine. He was better than fine. He was great. He was my dad. Then about four years ago, he… started acting strange. Erratic, forgetful, saying all this weird shit. My mom took him to a bunch of doctors, and they put him on medication. But that just made it worse. He got more confused. Then he got angry. And then he got… physical. That was it. That was the last straw. They put him away. And she divorced him… without him even realizing it. That’s why she wants a whole new life. And it’s easy to just stash me away in boarding school. Like half of us are just stashed away there. And I get it. She never has to look at me. Because maybe when she looks at me, she… she sees him. Maybe she’s right. I can’t keep it together. I lie. I steal. I piss people off. I don’t have any friends, real friends. I’ll probably get kicked out of Barton too. And when I do, it’ll be my own fault. Get sent to Fork Union and maybe to youknowwhere. And nobody will care. The funny thing is… I wanted to see him so bad this whole time. But I also didn’t, you know? Because I’m afraid that’s what’s going to happen to me one day.

The sound of a body shifting on the top bunk. (They're stuck sharing a space tonight, and both complained constantly about the fact. Visiting the mainland sucks.) A thumb of a bored foot against the mattress.

"Hey, Mara. Do you think pigeons have feelings?"

Couldn't her older brother just go for a run or sleep outside? Sharing a room would be bad enough, but bunk beds were torture. And while she was all for torture in some instances, this was not one of them.

She could answer him plainly with a 'yes'. Most creatures in the world with a brain had feelings. That was how they mated, how they took care of their young, how they knew fear, how to avoid predators, and how to stay alive. It was the only way that carrying pigeons worked.

"Go catch one, and we can see just how much it can feel. I'm sure we can find out real quick if it can feel fear as we start breaking bones." She was joking to shut him up. A lot of her threats like that were just said in jest. To get a rise out of someone.

So life news

TL;DR- I planning on coming back here after losing my job

I basically lost my job yesterday. Technically, I have 12 weeks of FMLA to use up, which will pay me 66% of my current salary. Most of you who have talked to me know that I suffered a back injury back in October of '22, and they finally designated me as permanently impaired with restrictions. Which is bad because almost all of my job experience is with manual jobs besides the year and some change I had with light duty recently. But also the job was very emotionally and mentally draining because I spent a good portion of it being yelled at by other people who were mad that they had to wait for their appliances to be repaired because the tech called out. One of the reasons why I haven't been around really, I've just been losing myself in games, (HD2, Rebirth, now Dragons Dogma 2).

I actually feel a little better I don't have to do any of that anymore and not stressing out over it since I have a backup with the FMLA and soon to be settlements for other legal things. Which means I'm going to try and get back to being around here and I think I can muster it again. I'm going to be very selective in what I do at first, might be short memes and such to start.
