Hello, I don't usually write questions but I wanted to know if you had already seen this news
https://x.com/animetv_jp/status/1780902310207504524
Indeed I have. :3 But since it won't be until several months, I decided to bid my time and focus on other stuff. I know some people like to collect the little tidbits and previews and trailers as they come but given it won't be out until JULY and we're still in April... If I think too much about this the wait will be killing me. But yes I did notice - though I won't be talking much about it until *checks calendar* three months onward.

So I don't know if this character had been suggested to me before but I just forgot about his existence, or if I just happened to stumble upon him, but there is this fat guy with a typical bishonen face in an anime called "Eden of the East" apparently.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Name of the character is Yutaka Itazu.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
... And not only is it the kind of design I like but apparently he appears as thin in the anime at some point, implying either a weight loss or weight gain.
Tumblr media
I am definitively going to check this out.

I want to talk about the New Years special but unfortunately I have no screenshot of it right now (it is on Bilibili), so instead have these screenshots of a freshly fattened up Colin (?) being dragged into battle to save his friends while complaining he has not finished his meal.
(There is also some design things I LOVE with this character - such as how his clothes definitively stretch to fit his new mass and you SEE it. For example his belt that not only looks stretched - but even the little cat face on the belt buckle actually changes its expression and design from his skinny form to his fat form. It's a little detail but I like it)
So why the New Year special is so interesting is because it presents the characters of the web-series as... well as actors playing their own role, and they gather to exchange "behind-the-scenes" secrets. And in this special we discover that Colin is actually played by three different actors - triplets... that are not so identical.
One of the triplet is regular Colin, another is enormous-Colin and the third is malnourished/skeletal Colin (because when the character exhausts his own energy without eating he ends up looking like a skeletal, white-eyed zombie). And we are given the backstory about how the triplets originally were of identical size, but since the producing team wanted the character to change his weight regularly throughout the episodes, each of the triplet decided to embody one of Colin's weight - resulting in one keeping their healthy, trim, athletic physique ; another starving himself to look as gaunt as possible ; and the third stuffing his face to become fat (with apparently the mention that the two "extreme" actors got WAY overboard with their diet plan, resulting in them growing much more underweight and overweight than originally planned). This is all retold in a "shadow-puppet" style in the Special, and I do like a lot this silly little backstory.

Unfortunately, beyond the nine episodes, there was no continuation of the web-series... I mean it is still a fresh one, the nine episodes were released (two or three years ago?) on Bilibili (where you can still watch them for free). But since then there haven't been any update - except for New Years special I will talk about afterward.
At the same time, it doesn't surprise me much, because on one side I understood that the web-series got pretty harsh criticism? But on the other hand, more importantly: this web-series actually does not exist simply on its own. It is actually a side-story or a side-product of a bigger franchise - as this web-series was released to promote a Chinese online-video-game taking place in the same world with the same main characters... I do know that the video game also includes Colin (?) as a character, but I unfortunately do not know if they kept his "weight gain technique" in the game, or if it is something exclusive to the web-series.

The web-series in itself is just nine episodes, and (Colin?) only appears in episodes 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 (at least to my knowledge, I might have missed an episode where he is featured).
I unfortunately do not speak or understand Chinese so the actual plot of the story is completely lost to me and I cannot understand anything of the dialogue... And I cannot tell you what exactly (Colin?)'s character is... His entire power and technique relies on him eating a lot of food to grow fat - and yet, whenever he does so the other characters seem to just shake their head and look at the sky and sight, as if he was doing something foolish or it wasn't the moment? There's lot of things I do NOT understand X)
There is an official website describing the characters briefly, here, and from what I could roughly get, it seems that Colin(?)'s personality changes between his "thin" and "fat" self - being a much more refined, delicate, elegant, snobbish person when thin ; but becoming much more rude, sloppy and vulgar when growing fat (if I understood well). At least the scene depicted above shows that Colin(?) is hot-temptered and has a pretty easy to wound ego, because in this scene one of his enemies taunts him with insulting comments about his fatness, and Colin(?) unloads a massive amount of attacks on the guy, half because he just wanted to show him what he looked like when skinny... Which of course results in him emptying all of his energy-stock for nothing.
(Though again given I have no actual understanding of Chinese I might be misreading completely the scene. If someone with more Chinese knowledge can inform me of any mistake I made or additional info, I'd be glad!)

So... I have been sitting on this one for a WHILE now. I first discovered this instance thanks to celtic_deer's twitter account, which takes note of various interesting male weight gains in Chinese media. And this one just clicked in.
This is from episode 3 of a fantasy animated Chinese web-series called "斩兽之刃" (which is roughly translated as "Beast Slayers" or "Blade of Avengers" depending on who you ask?). The character here is called 科林 (Colin? as you can see I am very poor in Chinese). He is this skinny handsome dude who uses energy-based attacks to fight (summoning a bow made of energy to shoot energy-arrows for example). But his specific technique actually needs him to burn his own body fat to produce all these energy weapons and attacks. Meaning... yep, he stuffs himself with food until he grows enormous, so that he can attack his ennemies as much as possible, resulting in him slimming back to his regular size. A bit of a Fatgum situation, if you like.
This scene in particular is his introduction, as he enters an eating frenzy and immediately grows from skinny to enormous (there is however an in-between state of him looking thicker and chubbier than usual, but not fully round - it is apparently the only time this "in-between" state appears throughout the entire series, all the other episodes have him switching from skinny to enormous).
Here is a link to the original post celtic_deer made about him, and among the many things deer posted, these three screenshots perfectly summarize the three moments of his weight gain in this episode (my own screenshots are in complete disorder):

New sighting you might like. It's a Korean animated series called Shinbi's Apartment/Shinbi's Haunted House. I haven't been able to find the episodes subbed anywhere (although they're all on Youtube unsubbed), but there's one episode called "Unstoppable Temptation" or something like that. It's in the second season. A fat, pig-like ghost possesses people and gives them insatiable cravings, making them fatten up too the more they eat. A man in the intro of the episode is fattened, likewise it rapidly happens to some female neighbor of the characters. The most significant example is the protagonist's little brother, who undergoes a progressive weight gain through the episode while under it's possession (although sadly the actual 'growth' happens a bit off-screen, but he does become progressively larger, culminating in near immobility towards the end of the episode). You may be interested in it.
I am pretty sure I covered this one before... Yep I am pretty sure I already covered it somewhere because I recall having a hard time explaining what the title of the show was.
So this is not a new sighting unfortunately X) In fact this one has gotten quite popular around the Internet (but mostly for the girl).
Indeed I was very interested in the man gaining weight in the opening... Not so much in the little brother's weight gain though, but that's more in terms of retrospective because a lot of pedos have been hanging around this episode like flies around a shit, and even then I have never been very interested in seeing characters gain weight when they're too young.
But the man's weight gain was great and I am sad we didn't see more of it.

A little kink message for the kinky pervs, so not for regular people
But I do think that people interested in the Dragon King's massive inflation/transformation at the end of the 2023's "Monkey King" movie should know that it is NOT a weight gain. It is a WATER BLOATING, not a weight gain. The Dragon King doesn't use energy to "put on pounds" or something - it is pretty clear when you look at what is going on that he is filling himself with water, absorbing it like a sponge until he grows to his enormous size.
And this is why there's the whole "twist his body" thing to defeat him. That's a subtle and clever joke on the fact that he literaly turned his body into a gigantic WATER BALLOON

Heavenly Sword's Grand Saga (3-B)
Given there were a lot of nice panels in this part of the manhwa, I will use this extra-post to give a debrief of the plot and the character's reason for losing weight, so that it makes a bit more sense.
... Well actually it doesn't make much sense, but that might interest you into seeing the original piece.
You see, the person whose body you see here is actually... very probably dead. And the character we follow hijacked this body and now uses it as his own. I'll explain.
This is the very typical plot common of many Korean works of "I find myself in the body of someone else", mixed here with the also very common plot of "I am back into the past". Our protagonist and hero of the tale comes from the future - a bad future of chaos, war, famine, slaughters and other disasters. His spirit was sent into the past in order for him to eliminate the one who caused the world to become a living hell, a mysterious antagonist only known as the Servant of Chaos. In order to be able to defeat it, the protagonist as trained by the harshest and most insane, but also most talented, martial artists and expert swordsmen of his time, until he became a perfect killing machine and one of the strongest warriors in the world.
The only thing that hadn't been planned was the fact that, while he could use a magic ritual to go back in time - he ended up in a body absolutely ill-fitted for the job. In this case the body of a young aristocratic man (18 years old and the only son of a local regional lord) who was so spoiled and pampered he was massively obese with not an ounce of muscle in his body. This was of course a source of brutal and intense frustration for the protagonist, as he still had his intensive training, had knowledge of the most secret martial art techniques, and could kill almost any men on the spot if he wanted - but couldn't use his immense skills thanks to his useless and dangerously sick body.
This is why the first part of the manhwa is about him regaining a body that would fit his actual abilities and capacities, by undergoing harsh training to lose weight and build enough muscle. All the while hiding from everybody else his true knowledge of martial arts and his true levels of brutal fighting powers - so as to not blow the fact that he isn't the "Young Master" everybody knows and cherished, but a perfect stranger from the future who stole his body and his life.
There's also a whole thing, once he is passed the shock of his new body, where he actually has a true "cultural conflict" with the past, since everything in this time is much more peaceful, normal and idyllic, and him coming from a time of horrors and cruelty means he has a hard time adapting - he is notably quite in shock when he learns the city his "father" takes care of isn't poor enough to have beggars in it. And when he finally warms up to the fact that people are actually nice and that he leaves in a time of happiness, peace and abundance now, he considers maybe actually staying there once his mission is finished and enjoying his new "fat cat" existence, so to speak.

Heavenly Sword's Grand Saga (3-A)
This third "step" in the weight gain/loss process (it is all confusing since I am posting things in reverse) happens not so long before part 2, just some times before, so the protagonist is here still the same size (though maybe he is a tad bit bigger, since in between he had time to exercise a bit).
The fascinating thing is that the protagonist's weight lost here has reached the point where he can finally go out in town walking all of his own, without any help, servant or escort. And all the townsfolk, who haven't seen him walk the streets in a long time since his weight made him qutie a recluse, all marvel at his presence.
That's right - this weight here (and in the next post) is the size the protagonist had to reach to be able to just walk of his own and alone. Before he was so heavier that he couldn't take a walk outside his house without someone helping me. Yep -he looks positively thin here compared to where he started.

Part 2 of my Heavenly Sword's Grand Saga posts.
My previous post was how the protagonist looked like in winter. This is what he was looking like the previous summer. Already chubbier isn't it? And can you believe he is positively skinny here compared with how he begins the story?
Indeed, the protagonist starts out as massively, morbidly obese, only to decide to lose all of his weight and become a trim and fit war machine and martial art experts. It took him some time (he only had a deadline of six months) but with a lot of efforts (and some secrets of his own) he managed to do what the people around him believed would only be possible in six years.
And the "why" of this sudden weight loss is actually the entire reason behind the manhwa's plot...

Part 1 of my posts dedicated to the online manhwa "Heanvely Sword's Grand Saga".
Given the first chapters of the story are about the character losing weight, I will begin with his appearence in chapter 12 - which is the time the protagonist finally loses all of his excess weight and gains a fit and trim body...
Only to end up with a lot of loose skin. Heavenly Sword's Grand Saga is quite notorious around for being one of the rare martial art Webtoons with an actual realistic weight loss resulting in the previously massively (morbidly) obese character having a lot of loose and excess skin. He will probably lose it afterward if the preview images I saw are true - but I haven't gotten past chapter 12.
For this, I will do the unusual process of posting the sightings in reverse, going back from chapter 12 to chapter 1, sot hat the weight loss becomes a weight gain. It will probably be quite confusing, but I'm a confusing person by nature.

I found a good one for ya; "Heavenly Sword's Grand Saga", it has the main character looking like a human blimp. The first chapter alone gives us a first look at his flabby glory.
Indeed! I remember I had stumbled (or been suggested) this webtoon a long time ago, but for reasons I can't remember I had put it aside for later and never returned to it. Now the webtoon has progressed enough that I think I can make some interesting posts out of it. Though the vertical style of the strips is quite annoying to edit... But I'll see what I can do

Can I ask how to search all the doujinshi that you upload recently?
Just 1 or 2 website.
(why I ask this because I just following this like 5 months ago)
Well there is a LOT of doujinshi websites around.
The one I was going for, for a longest time, was "hitomi", more precisely"hitomi.la". However for some times now the website has been unavailable in France, so I don't know if you will reach it in your country
But yes, if you want to start somewhere, the hitomi website is a great and concise collection of doujinshis (search for the "weight gain" section ; male weight gain precisely, I think there's a tag for that)

hi, there is a scene from franchise "hypnosis mic", in its manga, where character named Dice Arisugawa has bloated belly and looks chubby, so... maybe it can be interesting to you :>
It could be interestng indeed! But could you be a bit more precise when it comes to where the sighting is? From what I can see there are several Hypnosis Mic manga, and not being familiar with the material, I might end up looking at the wrong one

Found an obscure instance of weight gain. A minor character in the Demon Gaze series, Lezerem Rantile, starts out as a thin young bishonen in the first game, but in the sequel becomes comically morbidly obese. I hadn't seen it mentioned anywhere else, and thought you might find it at least a little interesting. Kinda reminds me of Byakuya Togami seemingly gaining weight in Danganronpa 2, but this case appears to be genuine.
I googled it up and I actually know of this one! Or rather I had heard of it - somehow, I can't recall where, BUT I did watch a video where we saw the new obese design of the character.
I did not made a post about it because I don't like much the way he looks when he is fat, but it is true that it is one of those rare instances where a character suddenly goes obese from one game to the next. (Though they do this thing that unfortunately a lot of Japanese artists do, change the facial features of the character when he gets fat to highlight that he becomes "ugly" - here by giving the character more porcine features)
If you are curious here is what he looks like in the first game:
Tumblr media
And in the second:
Tumblr media
Oh actually I do recall where I saw it! It was talked about on TV Tropes because there were discussions of how in the first game there is a scene where the character's almost naked body is revealed in a "sauna"/"onsen" type of scene:
Tumblr media
And for the joke, they recreated the scene with his new obese body in the second game:
Tumblr media
Though again a change they just had to change his face because thin people= human face, fat people = pig face in Japanese artstyle
