This perfectly summed up all my emotions. Living with a mental Illness isn’t pretty, it’s not comfortable and it’s not easy.
For the first time in my life this musical made me feel like I was being represented not just some broken kid who could never be a part of anything.
TW ANXIETY & DEPRESSION.
speaking from the point of view of a 15 year old girl who has suffered from anxiety and depression her WHOLE LIFE, i cannot possibly begin to explain the importance behind dear evan hansen. for once, i don't need to explain my disorder, my daily struggle - i can show it. in my opinion, i have never come across such an accurate depiction of mental health, particularly in teens, and no matter how controversial the characters and their actions may be *ahem* evan *ahem*, it is so real and raw, and heartbreakingly true to reality. i hope that people will watch this to understand and help those in their life who fight battles in their head everyday, just to get out of bed.
chances are i will suffer with mental health for the rest of my life, but it's moments like these that i feel okay with that. because it has not only made me who i am, but i am so much more grateful for those i hold dear and the happiness that they bring me. i only wish that i had had a character to identify with like this, who could have helped me feel less alienated and alone - because even if i have a supportive family and group of friends, sometimes it feels impossible to connect with people around me, because i can't help but feel like a freak.
i'm more lucky than some - i have access to help, i can speak to people, and maybe for those who can't this story is a beacon of hope. there is a fine and blurred line between recovery and digging a deeper hole, and i hope that this movie allows more people suffering to guide themselves along the right path, however exhausting it is to wake up everyday and fight to be happy.
tl:dr - thank you, evan hansen. for being so true and honest - battling mental health could be constant, and won't always be easy, but it doesn't mean that you should give up. there are so many out there just like you - you will never be alone.

I get all the imperfections of the movie but pls just let us enjoy the little things. I mostly go to the cinema for an experience, and for some of us this story means a lot.

I’ve spent a whole ass year trying to get my friend to avoid the plot so she can have the same reaction my other friend did when we went to see the musical. Then the trailer came out 😑
I get it’s the literal plot but WHYYYY
oki survey time: raise your hand if you thought that the dear evan hansen movie trailer basically told like 80% of the plot in more or less 3 minutes-

I HAVE SO MANY EMOTIONS ABOUT THE DEAR EVAN HANSEN MOVIE TRAILER THAT I JUST DON’T KNOW HOW TO VERBALISE THEM AHHHH.
I can still visualise what I saw on stage when I listen to the songs, it really will stay with me forever and I can’t imagine the movie will have that feeling. People’s reactions to it already make me slightly concerned that Ben’s age will overshadow the meaning of the musical. (Absolutely no hate to Ben btw I ADORE the man.)
The show isn’t about feeling sorry for Evan, it’s bringing to light so many important issues and I just want more than anything for that to come across in the movie.
That musical saved my life and I’m not the only one. Now it’s being made into something more widely available, I hope it will be there for people, like it was for me, when they need it most. 👕💙

I’m not saying you are defending Heard, but what you don’t seem to realise is by saying that Johnny Depp is as bad, you are. Because you’re believing the things her PR are paying for.
The points about racism in the article have been already disproved, there’s proof of Amber being racist on her public accounts and they needed to change the narrative. The dates alone are enough to make that one laughable. May I add the reason the whole ‘Rocky brooks’ debacle started is because he was defending a homeless black woman. His ex partner in question has strongly backed him since day one, as have her family.
The fact I’ve already supplied you with court information to disprove the article yet you’re still arguing that it’s relevant is beyond me. Here’s another piece of evidence against your theory. Both Greg Ellis and Kevin McNally have worked with Johnny Depp for years- Kevin nearly 20. He was present when these supposed Drunk allegations came about and he has nothing but nice things to say about him. https://youtu.be/taJPQCatEr8 Again I reiterate those claims were made by his ex management who had to pay Johnny Depp a 7 figure sum when he took them to court, that’s enough to debunk those.
I really couldn’t give a shit whether you like Johnny Depp or not, hate his movies I couldn’t care but don’t spread misinformation. To put him on a level with someone who has done some of the most vile things, isn’t okay and to do that because you haven’t researched anything but PR articles is ridiculous.
We’re waisting both of our time here if you’re not even willing to look at the facts behind an article, like I said I agreed with you once so I know how easily facts debunk this whole thing. Spreading articles that have been disproven isn’t proving a point it’s just proving that you haven’t researched and because of that this conversation is clearly pointless as nobody is going to get anywhere, so because of that I hope you have a lovely rest of your day :)

This article is a PR hit piece, it contains no evidence to back up the claims and no response from either sides legal teams. In fact somebody from the same publication, only the other day, admitted that he refused to publicise that Amber Heard didn’t in fact donate the money she swore under oath to doing, so that shows you everything you need to know about the bias they are displaying.
As someone with experience in journalism (you don’t have to believe me but the facts remain the same) a source can be anybody I.e. another journalist in the room. Without actual evidence and legal responses from both sides it is not a factual piece. You also said there were on set interviews yet have failed to supply any.
Everything in the article can also be very easily rebutted. Many of the allegations were made up by previous management of his, who he sued and won. If we take just one instance for eg- Rocky brooks. Here is the actual court documents for the issue. I’m sure you’ll agree the THR haven’t reported all the facts on the case.

When you dismiss the DEPP V HEARD case you dismiss a lot of people involved. Including the woman who’s horrific abuse story she stole and used it in her hoax (she testified for Johnny and will again.) It’s offensive. People are fighting for him because they’ve read all of the evidence and spent weeks covering court documents. Many people also aren’t ‘fans’ of his, they’re victims of abuse, don’t dismiss them because you once read an article and think you know more about it. When this all started 5 years ago I was literally giving the same arguement as you, my only interest in the case was the journalism and I was fully anti Johnny Depp. Then I listened to what people were saying to me, how they were always providing court documents/ indisputable proof and woke the fuck up. Read all the court documents before you compare an abuse victim to his abuser.
