@words.and.illustrations was so kind as to comment on the title typography. I wanted to post about how it was created because it was kind of a mistake actually! Brian and I knew we wanted something hand drawn looking but neither of us do a lot of hand lettering. I sat on the couch and roughed this in with graphite and pen to have a direction. To be able to have a visual reference of "something like this". With our reference in hand, we search a million fonts, drew out several other sketches but kept coming back to this first rough, unintentional sketch. So we finally have in and digitized it, threw it on the title page, and with some minor tweaks, we can't picture anything else fitting any better. #happyaccident

Yesterday Braxton and I were invited to W.I.D.E school to be a guest speaker. Braxton got to read the book and lead a discussion on how art is an opportunity to explore, express and share our feelings. We learned so much about their school in the short time we were there. They value healthy foods, a creative learning space and an open environment where self expression is celebrated. They have chickens that lay eggs which are used in the meals they prepare there, a garden, an outdoor stage for performing arts, huge open spaces for playing and the staff were unbelievably welcoming and kind. 

We brought lots of fun stuff with us for the kiddos to see. Biggie the Bunny is a replica of another bunny, Baby, we have at home that was the inspiration for the bunny character in The Moon and Me story. However, we couldn't risk taking the real Baby out of the house because Braxton’s sister is way too attached. 

We also brought a bunch of the original hand drawn illustrations which was fun to be able to show the process of creating the book. We even brought my dad’s original hand written lyrics to the song so in a sense he was right there with us. The W.I.D.E. kids were all super engaged. They asked a lot of really great questions. Braxton got stumped on a couple of them but he recovered like a pro. 

Afterwards Braxton signed a BUNCH of autographs with his new friends. it was the cutest thing ever.  Of course, I did not forget the cameras at home. I’ll edit together the video of the whole experience and post it soon. Huge thank you to Dandee, Marjon and W.I.D.E. school for such a wonderful experience.

Ah!! The Moon and Me Amazon Commercial is up! The voiceover was done by our 7 year old, Braxton and that’s Miss Berlin, our 2 year old in the video. So cute my little loves! I’ve watched it a million times...

The Moon and Me Book Promo Video coming very soon and it was a family affair. Our daughter Berlin was in it and son Braxton did the voice over. Sorry Heidi Blaire, you’re too young right now so you’ll have to make your debut later. They were great which is to be expected from a family that runs a film production company I suppose. We know how to get our actors in line!! :)
