Imo one of the best things the Star Wars prequels did was establish how much Anakin/Vader *wanted* he and Padme’s baby. Because if it HAD been written as him never knowing she was pregnant, or not caring much because he was Too Much of a Man in War to really give a shit that he was going to have a kid (both of which are things people have suggested would have been *better* somehow), I don’t think it would have added as much to his relationship with Luke as it did. Vader doesn’t love Luke just as an extension of Padme, or in an obligatory, familial way, or even as a last connection to the person he was way.
Vader loves Luke because he’s always loved Luke, from the moment he knew there was going to be a Luke to love. He wants to know Luke because he’s always wanted to know him. He wants to be a part of Luke’s life, because he never had any intention not to be. That’s important. That’s powerful shit.

Yes, I was including the Wikipedia page in the " little" reference. I thought you might have had some personal acquaintanceship with him and could point me to obscure references he drew research from. I'll try asking the Matthews. Thanks for your time!
You're the only other person I "know" who likes the author John James. I want to learn more about him, his background and inspirations, but can find little on the internet. Any advice on where to begin?
I think Wikipedia is a good starting point.

I don't know how to explain this but sometimes A court of Thorns and roses feels like it was a fanfc of some better book
Like this is the only explanation for things like the pairing of spares with Nesta and Cassian and for the lack of names for important characters like Rhysand's and Tamlin's family, The Archeron Parents the fucking king of Hybern, Sometimes it feels like Author Lady thought we as readers would already know those of information when we didn't

I think probably the saddest thing about Feyre is that she genuinely has no friends of her own. Her "friend group" was loyal to her husband hundreds of years before she was born and have proven more than once that they still defer to him over her. The one friend she might have had (Lucien) has been completely estranged from her. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the Feyre in ACOSF is living ACOTAR Feyre's worst nightmare.

I need to read something easy so I picked up A Deal with the Elf King by Elise Kova. Wasn't sure about it at first, but it was fast-paced and interesting enough to keep me listening (on audiobook) and now 17 chapters in I can happily report that it is much better done than ACOTAR, which was boring and confusing and frustrating. Though I haven't finished it yet, so ... we'll see.

Fighting the urge to hibernate through the winter like the giant mammal I am.
Oh, let me artificially simulate summer with this SAD lamp to trick the chemicals in my brain into going out of sync with the seasons so that I can integrate into modern society! That makes sense!

I accidentally streamed all of Netflix's Blue Eye Samurai and now I am sad.
*staring longingly from out my window like a widow waiting for her husband never to return* I guess this is my life now.

BLUE EYE SAMURAI
I never said I was a samurai, you did. I’m on the path of revenge. There’s no place on it for love or friendship or weakness.

It's dawned on me (yeah, I'm slow) that while Feyre is written by the author to be a reliable narrator, the text actually shows otherwise. Hence my deep confusion and dissatisfaction with these stories.
And yet, there is so much potential there. The introduction of Rhys was interesting, and in ACOTAR, he's clearly a villain, but a villain with redemption-potential, which always holds my interest. Then in ACOMAF, his entire character is ret-conned, and it turns out that that person of complex and objectionable morality was a mask and that he is secretly always right as well as being the most powerful person ever. So instead of forcing him through a redemption arc, the author just sort of hand-waves away his bad behaviour and its feels totally unearned.

Chapters: 1/? Fandom: Original Work Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Additional Tags: Fairy Tale Retellings, Ballad 39: Tam Lin, Inspired by Tam Lin, Historical, Fantasy, Romance, Enemies to Lovers, Elves, Witchcraft, Fae & Fairies Summary:
When bookish, timid Margaret wanders into the woods on All Hallows’ Eve and plucks a double-headed rose, the master of the enchanted garden demands she make restitution for her crime by serving for a year and a day. Living by the laws of faerie and not losing oneself is tricky enough, and Margaret is not known for her bravery. But a doom lies over the ancient fortress, and in order to discover its cause, Margaret must ask the right question. The master, Tam Lin, is inconstant and vain, and, like all elfish-kind, has no heart to speak of. But Margaret has patience, a different kind of fortitude, and a skill acquired from years of being overlooked. There is strength in quiet dignity and power in facing one’s fears. And Margaret is about to find out just how much sacrifice it takes to be this gentle.
(For fans of Reylo, Howl’s Moving Castle, and A Court of Thorns and Roses. This is my take on the well-loved tale.)
