DEEPWATER BEND
Where the rushing Frew and Ribbon rivers force their way to meet the sea, a number of islets serve to slow their course, and make up the seat of Deepwater Bend. The marshy waterways are thick with river trout, and stalked by jaguars, the latter of which the noble house of Vilarey takes as it’s sigil. The climate is perpetually humid, and in the summer months, work is conducted at night, when the air is marginally cooler.
House Vilarey is one of the more ancient families, though not as grand as they once might have been. Their shabbiness makes them an easy target of mockery amongst their peers, but they seem content to conduct themselves without the flashy trappings of some of the nouveau houses.

CLYFFHOME
Nestled at the base of the Spine, and bordered by mountains on either side, Clyffhome is one of the most inaccessible regions in the Realm. And its inhabitants like it that way. Outsiders are viewed with suspicion, as though anyone who would bother to travel all that way must be trouble. And they often are; caverns in the cliffs make ideal hidey-holes for bandits and ne'er-do-well's.
For similar reasons of geography Clyffhome has always held somewhat of a swing position in the politics of the Realm; not quite a Western territory, but not quite an Eastern one. Though they prefer to keep a neutral stance more often than not, the coffers and cellars of House Martyn are brimming with the gifts of those who've sought to woo them.

LEAHSBRIDGE
As verdant as its name suggests, Leahsbridge is the leading principality for produce and dairy production. Gentle rolling hills and a mild climate make this one of the more forgiving places to live, and as such its population is greater even than the capital city. Every autumn, the population seems to grow as common folk arrive from all over the Realm, hopeful to earn their place by helping out with the annual harvest. And the cheese! A soft-ripened wheel of 'Hollandscreme' has great value across the realm; the head cook likes to tell a tale about an old Granville King offered to trade his best stallion for the last slice of a batch.
Equal to its food production is its military strength; with so many well-fed common folk to enlist, House Holland boasts a formidable private army, which they are not shy to remind the Realm of. The current Lord directly oversees the training and discipline of the troops, and is known to be a firm but fair general.

Authority forgets a dying king.
The Old King lies gasping in his sickbed, skin hanging loosely from his bones. Outside the chamber door, the wolves gather to clack their jaws, all vying for the first bite.
The Realm is fractured. Dissent rises in the East, old songs about dead Princes being sung quietly under tavern eaves. A bitter winter has become a fetid spring, with half the capital dying of the same grippe that has seized the King. It will not be an easy thing to inherit.
Nor will it be easy to choose the successor, for the King has left no trueborn son to take up his mantle. A bastard boy of thirteen and his grasping mother nominate themselves, as does the King’s trueborn daughter, a proud and unyielding woman. Though no one asked them, the Faith rejects either abomination, and puts forth their own candidate, a tanner’s son with a knack for public speaking.
So they gather, with the thinnest veneer of respect for a dying man. Sniffing the air for the signs of death, and licking their chops.

SUMMERSEND
The seat of House Summerwyne is set upon the stony slopes of Summersend Isle, off the Western coast of the Realm. The ashy, volcanic soil is perfect for growing grapes, and the Summerwyne's have quite literally made a name for themselves turning said grapes in to wine. It's a strong and sour blend, as are the men who sail merchant vessels on behalf of their Lord. The coves that line the coastline away from the main port are known hideouts of pirates and smugglers, and the docks after dark are no place for the faint of heart or lax of judgement.
Exposed as they are to the lands beyond the sea, Summersend is one of the most diverse regions of the Realm. Nobles and merchants alike display their wealth by wearing imported silks and laces, and local dishes tend to be heavily spiced.

LANGDALE
Along the banks of the Lew River, the city of Langdale sprawls. Buildings are built low to the ground, and are primarily crafted of wood and river rock, with gently sloping roofs and vast chimneys. The local mountains provide deposits of iron, silver, and occasionally gold, and Langdale boasts the finest smiths in all The Realm. There is a strong guerrilla fighting tradition as well, due to dense tree cover and difficult terrain.
For centuries, the Llewys family profited from the wealth of ore and the abundance of weapons they could manufacture. Abelard Llewys, however, considerably over-taxed his resources and as a result the Llewys family only maintains a handful of active mines, most of them iron. The current heir finds himself on the brink of bankruptcy; desperate for a solution to his financial woes, he has agreed to be betrothed to the Queen's sister, though she is said to be far from fair to look upon.

KINGSPORT
Founded in 259 CE, Kingsport was built on an islet in the Black River, where it empties in to Goldenthroat Bay. The city brims with all the vim and vigour you'd expect of a port, and travellers are warned to keep a close watch on their purses when doing business on the waterfront.
The urban sprawl reaches nearly to the limit of the region’s border, save for a protected parkland that serves as the royal hunting grounds. ‘Not a patch unclaimed’ is the complaint of many an over-crowded citizen, some of whom live 2-3 to a room in the boarding houses and tenements that line the narrow streets.
Kingsport’s architecture is truly a feat to behold; narrow houses, some 4-5 stories high, sink into the soft riverbank alongside soaring temples and state buildings, with the new growth charted like tree rings around the city’s edge. Besides the Grand Palace, some notable institutions are the Temple of the Sun and Moon, and the New University.
