It’s useless to bicker on the internet and better to focus on the aspects of fandoms that bring you joy, but, man, do I get pissed.

Role swap AU with Teru as a clock keeper and Akane as an exorcist! I thought of a swag altered clock keeper fit and needed headcannons and art to go with it.

Here Akane is trying to acquaint Teru’s face with his bat but Teru stopped his time.

LETS BREAK IT DOWN (wikikiki) (those are dj noises btw)!

Clock Keeper Teru:

I’d say clock keeper Teru is able to freeze time for maybe an hour. It’s op, I know. But, I like the idea of him doing it everyday to goof off and catch up on the fun miscellaneous things he never got to do as a kid and Akane just getting increasing pissed off at having to wait out the time freezes. I’d imagine that’s how their 1st interaction occurs, Akane finally hunting Teru down and just being exasperated at his immature use of supernatural power.

Moreover, besides the critical threatening Kou no-no, Teru would probably enjoying being a supernatural. If anything it complements his nature more: selfish and self-serving, not really benevolent but not exactly malevolent either. I think, like his exorcist duties, it’d be a good distraction but, not really proactive in solving his more deep-rooted issues.

Exorcist Akane:

Akane would be a really fun exorcist. Boy’s a thinker and I could see him winning battles in really creative ways.

Maybe it feels like I nerfed him by making him average in terms of anti-spirit lightning, but I’d assert that it wouldn’t be Akane if he wasn’t working his ass off and overcoming the odds stacked against him. That’s his THING.

Plus, I think limitations breed innovation. Teru’s so powerful he doesn’t really have to care about finesse when taking down supernaturals, but AKANE HAS TO-

Plus, the aesthetic of Akane wielding a bunch of talisman similar to Luz and her glifs from the Owl House matches him so well. He do be note-taking and scribbling. (Also, bi icons times 2).

Haha, it’s nice to hear your thoughts! I was actually speculating about TeruxAoi when I drew this — I wrote a mini paragraph next to it in my sketchbook!

I’ll reiterate it verbatim and share my extra thoughts too! You don’t have to read it, but you come across to me as a fellow, like-minded analysis nut-

Guess I wanna hear more of your thoughts; I read your analysis about how Teru likely does have a crush on Aoi and how Aoi appreciates him too.

Past Notes:

“Maybe I ship them? They’re my 1st and 2nd fav characters respectively, and both are 2 sides of the same coin. Though, I think Aoi would get more [character] development from dating Teru than vice versa. Since she hates easily liked people and Teru is super, super popular despite being almost unapologetically himself… Plus, Teru’s deadly loyal.”

Added Thoughts:

I tend to ship characters based on how they impact each other’s growth. Especially, if they’re not each other’s ideal or type. The whole romanticism of “not being what you want, but what you need,” ya know?

That said, I feel like being with Teru would be nice for Aoi’s inner conflict. While the student body definitely spins their own narrative about who Teru is, Teru himself doesn’t really succumb to it and try to fulfill their expectations. He openly says and does pretty ruthless things, and students like Nene only coo words of admiration towards him. He threatened Tsuchigomori OPENLY, in CLASS, but people still don’t think twice about labeling him as the school’s prince.

That’s more than Aoi does, as she traps herself in her peer’s expectations, trying to be what they want so they don’t reject her, yet hating it all the same. She could kinda learn from Teru in that, sense, realizing she doesn’t really have to pretend. Furthermore, Teru can empathize with her, as people still rather fall into their delusions than acknowledge who he really is. (He simply cares less about any of their opinions as he prioritizes his family above all.)

It’s something Akane lacks in regards to Aoi, the ability to empathize, because Akane is ultimately a normie. He’s an “average” guy trying to keep up with school “royalty,” but because he doesn’t have that extra, automatic barrier of admiration and expectations, he really had to earned his place — which makes how people perceive him all the more genuine. They see all the responsibilities he takes on and realize him as hardworking and reliable, and he IS. No preconceptions to hang onto. It’s part of what Aoi hates about him, they fact people are able to truly like and “see” him. She’s a jealous person.

Plus, similar to Akane, Teru’s devoted so he won’t really feed into Aoi’s insecurities about love that spawned from her parents.

Nevertheless, idk what Teru really gets developmentally from Aoi. From your analysis, I definitely get the sense that he enjoys her company, but that’s all. Maybe you could convince me otherwise…

While, I’m very much partial to TeruxAkane, I really enjoyed your analysis. It’s fun to explore different perspectives. More so, when it uses pictures from official content as evidence. (I’m a bit too tired to do it here, sorry).

That said, I don’t get the discourse between Teru and Hanako lovers. They’re pretty similar when you break them down. Selfish people who’d do unspeakable things for the people they’d love.

Just, I love them.

It’s the fact that they’re both super fake people who’re arguably only their natural selves around each other. Teru, because Akane is half-supernatural and he doesn’t have to pretend to be anything less than ruthless. Akane, because Teru isn’t Aoi or someone who he feels he needs to be civil towards outta duty (his peers).

The shared (potential) struggle with identity. Teru with exorcism and Akane with how he cultivates his personality around Aoi’s passing interests.

And, the fact that if Teru isn’t gay for that boy — unrequited, even — that imma eat my HAT.
