In one year i accomplished 2 things I've been waiting for for years. Marrying my best friend and feeling comfortable with my body. To everyone, the wait is worth it. I promise, just keep going.
• Everyone's surgeon and aftercare is different. You read and read about other people's experience, don't expect to have the same.
• Clean your drain tubes as early as day 2 to make sure nothing is blocked. Make sure you and your helper know how to strip the tubing.
• The timelines are what your body is comfortable with. However for myself: for showers (11 days), lifting your arms above your head (5 weeks), soaking in the tub (6 weeks) steristrips (4 weeks), work (3 weeks), sleeping on the side (5 weeks)
• I read a lot about fainting. This only almost occurred when I first took off my binder after surgery. Drains kinda grossed me out.
• Top surgery is not a cure all for mental health and dysphoria. It will help a lot, but all your problems might not be solved
I remember a more innocent time, when two bros would chill in a hot tub, six feet apart, not because of a global pandemic, but merely because they were not gay.
mentally i am living in a cabin in the middle of nowhere in the woods of oregon and it’s foggy and i am wearing a big sweater and baking banana bread
