I splattered the background because 1) there were smudges 2) I put his name in the title and so I felt like it should be dirty

Anti AI alternatives to DA and my experience. by ALRadeck. I originally meant to post this to twitter but this works here too. For folks who have a DA site and hate themselves.

Looked into a couple other things: reptile shows and bird shows
Reptile shows look to be out of my budget for now
Two bird shows I found coincided with other events I'm committed to, lol. The group organizing them is charging under $100 for a table, so maybe I can do one next year.
Got some new shows lined up for this year.
I'm trying out the local farmers market's guest artist program. I get 2 weekends this season (April thru October, lol). Doing one Saturday in a couple weeks and then one in May.
I contacted a cat club about their show dates for this year. Unfortunately their closest show is the same weekend as my May farmers market reservation. They have another in October, so I'm lined up for that. They've got a very reasonable table rate for a one day event. They even provide the table and chairs! It sounds like they pick from a list of folks that approach them vs first come first serve, so I'm happy that I was one of their picks. I was able to find information on two clubs in the state and one puts on a huge weekend long event in December. I'd rather try the one day show first and see what the reception to my work is in cat circles.

Talk to me about furry cons.
I feel like they are probably where my work would do the best other than dog shows when the economy doesn't suck.
I've never attended one, not been heavily active the online circles, but I've followed a lot of furry artists for years and obviously like to draw anthros.
What goods do people tend to buy at these shows? Do attendees go for other's original concepts/work or are they most interested in commissions of their characters? (This is how dog shows tend to be for me, lol. They want their dog, not generic dogs. Doesn't convert to sales of premade merch.)
As far as pre-done work, I only have dog anthros, original species, and real wildlife. I'm not sure I'd want to squeeze out random anthro art to have more work. It's like dog breeds, lol. If I were to add more species to my portfolio, I feel like I should focus on real animals because the market for that is wider.
IDK, just thinking out loud and would like to hear the experience of others.

One artist I'm friend's with on FB has been working on her mailing list and I'm really thinking I need to get on that.
I've been wasting the opportunities to grow that list at both events I'm a vendor at and dog shows I'm competing at.
I should probably put a list out at the event I'm selling at this next Saturday and work on getting it put together before I exhibit at the large local farmers market in April.

I think I managed to settle on something, but I feel bad that yesterday I told people at an agility one thing and decided to make my minimum $100 more, lol.
So, what I'm hoping I can do is get the club to send an email (since I suck at getting the contact info of interested parties) to competitors and offer an "(re)introductory pricing" special and give them a discount so it's not $100 more than the minimum I quoted them (though I made it clear I was still working out pricing.) Just do that for that small group and then charge the full rate going forward.
Ughhh, I'm starting to get drawn back in to more customized pet portrait (and other...) commissions and I hate pricing them out. That's one reason I started offering just 3 styles with mostly flat rates and standard sizes (the digital was the most customizable because it's easy to do that digitally.)
I'm thinking I need to adopt one of the formulas for pricing by size. I just saw an article with linear inch pricing in addition to the square inch pricing, which I'm familiar with and loosely based my prices on. I've mainly been going on gut feelings about what seems reasonable.
I've just got to figure out what formula and multiplier seems right. Then I can throw a page up on my website with samples and start taking them "officially."

Um, I started watching Deep Space Nine and I can't resist further creature-ifying some of the humanoid species. Cardassians are the current victims.
Basically scaly geladas.

Hey artists/writers/in general
Make sure to go into your blog settings and check the option to disable to sharing with AI

Right here. This choice is downright foul and a betrayal of user trust and you're not opted out by default. Cause it means accounts that are inactive/abandoned/ect are now likely going to be scrapped. So yeah go make sure to opt out of this for your works/data's safety
