Another useful PSA. Take care of yourselves out there! Thank you to @linipik
Exercises for all the homies who want to have a long career drawing.
The true problem with being an artist and drawing all day (as I wanted my whole life) is that human backs are not designed to hold that position, so it is very common for artists and designers to have really stiff shoulder blades, creating a chain of muscle strain towards the arm AND the back… and a lot of pain.
These are some physical exercises for artists and honestly anyone who works at a desk.
I keep seeing people recommending Open Office as an alternative to Word, and uh... look, it is, technically, an open source alternative to Word. And it can do a lot of what Word can, genuinely! But it is also an abandoned project that hasn't been updated in nine years, and there's an active fork of it which is still receiving updates, and that fork is called LibreOffice, and it's fantastic.
Seriously, if you think that your choices are either "grit your teeth and pay Microsoft for a subscription" or "support free software but have a kind of subpar office suite experience", I guarantee that it's because you're working with outdated information, or outdated software. Most people I know who have used the latest version of LibreOffice prefer it to Word. I even know a handful of people who prefer it to Scrivener.
Open Office was the original project, and so it has the most name recognition, and as far as I can tell, that's really the only reason people are still recommending it. It's kind of like if people were saying "hey, the iPhone 14 isn't your only smart phone option!" but then were only ever recommending the Samsung Galaxy S5 as an alternative. LibreOffice is literally a version of the same exact program as Open Office that's just newer and better – please don't get locked into using a worse tool just because the updated version of the program has a different name!
I really appreciate this comparison of the original art to that of the new Cloverworks anime. They seem to have the look down quite well even if Sebastian looks softer than his demon-form in the original anime. I'm wondering if that darker aspect will get a stunning treatment in a moment where he reveals his true abilities.
Thanks @seekers-who-are-lovers
Episode 2 synopsis, The Butler, in disguise, anime vs manga
Sebastian and Ciel infiltrate the school on the Queen's orders. In order to get closer to P4, who governs the school, Ciel's reputation at school has to improve.
He must get the opportunity to attend a meeting just for P4 and their dorm mates.
I was eagerly waiting for them to post the synopsis. Maurice’s design is amazing. Let’s see how long will he stay pretty. Though, S, beautiful, gorgeous demon, oh my.
Getting to see the wings spread out on a colorful bird is its own joy. That we get to see above and below on this Blue-winged Pitta is particularly nice. Makes you want to paint it. Thanks for sharing @herpsandbirds
Blue-winged Pitta (Pitta moluccensis), family Pittidae, order Passeriformes, Kranji Marshes, Singapore
Thanks to catdemontraphouse for sharing this. Again, I was just at Animate this past week and didn't hear about this. It would have been quite the find! Glad we are seeing some new art though.
Black Butler Volume 34 Limited Animate Tokuten Card
Thanks to seekers-who-are-lovers for this. I seriously couldn't find anything in pop-up cafes or events the past 2 weeks and here are all kinds of things coming out. I was even at Animate and didn't hear about any of it. Guess I'll be grateful some Kuroshitsuji merch is coming out.

First web radio of the duo Sebastian Michaelis/Ciel Phantomhive is out. Daisuke Ono and Maaya Sakamoto are the first personalities to hold it.
Am urging you to listen to it.
When Ono D began to talk with his cool Sebastian M voice, Maaya suddenly joked that she didn’t know which way to reply. Both admitted that talking nonstop for 30 minutes with their character voices was difficult. They talked about mostly the early days of Kuroshitsuji recording where Maaya felt nervous and shy bc she was the only female cast member at that time. She was young and didn’t know anything. I guess that was the reason she wasn’t present to many of their presentations. So now, that the two of them reunited it was good that they were bonding. They also discussed the new cast members where many of them professed they watched the show when they were teenagers. OnoD particularly mentioned McMillan’s VA, Haruka Shiraishi, who was starstruck upon learning she was able to work with Maaya and OnoD on the anime she used to watch beforehand.
Other things I’ve learned: OnoD loves to wear black influenced with his role as S. Maaya is not only a singer and an actor, she also writes and has a column at NewType.
Maaya Sakamoto and Daisuke Ono
Anyway, I saved the ending because it encapsulated that they are much closer than say, 10 years ago.
Daisuke Ono: We are creating works of quality that will definitely exceed expectations. If we are to live up to those expectations, we will definitely accomplish it and show it beyond expectations. What will we do if we can't do something like that? We are only butlers after all.
Maaya Sakamoto: Yo!
Daisuke: When Maaya-chan’s “Yo!” comes in things start to become a bit like traditional performing arts. So-so-so-so. (Tsk tsk tsk.. both are laughing) Anyway, I'm looking forward to the future. I'm looking forward to the anime, I’m looking forward to the radio show. The next program on this show will be Tachibana Rymaru, who plays the role of Gregory Violet, and Kikunosuke Toya, who plays Cheslock, as the next participants.
PS: If you are collecting points then you need the code. This is where you can get it.
Also, Volume 1 of DVD/Blu-ray’s first benefits will contain the anime soundtrack among others. Yay!
How I went all the way to Japan and missed the premiere of Kuroshitsuji.
I got the dream vacation of going to Japan. My friend booked a rather traditional ryokan for the night of the 13th when Black Butler was premiering. A little concerned, I checked online and it said, yes they did have a t.v. in the room. Woot! I was all set...then learned that the t.v. had only local stations that didn't include the one the premiere was showing on! Noooo! And that was that.
There were no pop-up shops or events during the window I was there and finding merchandise was difficult as well. However, the cherry blossoms were in bloom everywhere we went and we did get to see a lot of things. A word to the wise: Japan feels like it is uphill both ways. The landscape is physically taxing if you aren't used to being in hills or mountainous areas.
The 'running for the train' is a thing. Pad your time for the trains/subways/buses as you will miss some of them and others will be delayed. I was warned that if the cars are full they will start to open and shut again almost immediately. Sometimes you simply can't catch the one you wanted.
Other notes: If you stay somewhere where the meal is included, it may come in multiple courses as opposed to a buffet. That means it takes longer to eat than you may have been planning on taking. Expect 45 minutes to an hour for a meal as other places take time to enjoy food when they finally sit down to eat.
The food there is extremely good. There is healthy competition so any shop that doesn't keep up on the quality will lose business. It is an interesting place. I don't think I've ever felt safer outside of my own home. Still need to process it all. Good luck to you if you are going in the future.
