Bristol was busy yesterday, while everyone else seemed to be at The Outertown festival or other gigs I checked out Children of the Pope at The Lanes, 60's psych.
The Children of the Pope - The Lanes , Bristol 13th April 2024
Thanks to a friend with beady eyes with managed to get half price tickets for Omni 馃槃.聽 A real mix of old & new songs in the set. Vid of Plastic Pyramid聽taking from their latest album.
You know what you're going get when a band starts their set with Rhinestone Cowboy. A bit of country but also a hint of Fat White Family vibe going on.
Projector were pretty amazing last night, loved every second. So many songs to choose from but this is one of my favourites - Chemical (in full) see previous post for pics
Projector totally exceeded my expectations, from start to finish they were spot on. Clearly influenced by The Pixies but they've also got their own thing going on. Great version of The Pixies Tame though.
Ride playing a few acoustic tracks from their new album in the Live & Signing.聽 Their songs always translate聽well acoustically and as they admitted they are starting to sound a little REM at times, which yes I can see.
Here's some pics and vids - mainly of Mark & Steve as there was no space to move.聽

Ride - Rough Trade Live & Signing Acoustic set - 3rd April 2024
Whitelands have recently finished their tour with Slowdive and as I didn't catch Slowdive this time around, thought I'd check out Whitelands at their live and signing.聽 With the latest album mastered by Simon Scott there is definitely聽a Slowdive vibe going on.
I've not seen Wych Elm for a while, in fact the last time I saw them I and quite a few others got Covid after the gig and ended up isolating that Christmas. So determined to see them again as for some reason or other I've missed some of their recent gigs, I went down to The Lanes freebie offshoot of Simple Things Festival.
Time for a bit of gothic shoegaze. M脴AA were touring their 2nd album, slightly popper feel to the first album which has a darker vibe.聽 Good to see them back in Bristol again,
I was quite gushy about Sunbrella when I saw them a couple of months ago & so happy for them that they got to support Beach Fossils on this tour... a perfect match. Seems they're coming back to Bristol in June, looking聽forward to it.
The last time Beach Fossils were in Bristol was 2017 & I was on holiday so I missed out 馃槳. I've been waiting patiently to see them for about 12 years & finally it happened. They were amazing,聽I loved聽every聽second and it still feels like a dream. I need to relive it again. Grateful they played a long set with some oldies.
The lighting was difficult, bright & half the time the band were hidden in haze of pink, orange, yellow & green so I clicked away & came away with a few pics.
Thank you also to anton for getting the rest of the band to sign my setlist.
Hamburger are a sweet indie band from Bristol. It's been a while since I last took photos of them so I thought I'd post again as they supported The Klittens the other night.
