Summary: Shen San was just a man. Under the plum tree, his tombstone told a little story that perhaps only a broken-hearted poet and an enlightened-hearted monk could decipher. The characters engraved next to his name were in a shape as beautiful as Shen Wei's calligraphy flowing from brush to paper. This was the first time that Shen Wei had come here with a different appearance than Shen San had known. "I have little time left but I decided to start another life in the human world, it's been a while since the last time. In your time, you said to me 'you are young but completely adult, so what?' before you were sure that I was much older than you had imagined.” About making a different decision this time, the last time, the only person Shen Wei has to ask for advice is Shen San - even though his words can only exist in Shen Wei's heart.

This fic is a prequel to my shared work with @tazzy-ace , In endless mist and rain, drawing your silhouette again and again , but it perfectly works as a story of its own. Because I needed to be sad about Shen San/Shen Wei again.

The second chapter of @tazzy-ace 's and mine Shenxie fic we didn't plan and no one asked for! Okay, Luci asked, but she always does, so-

Shen Wei sat on the carpet next to the couch, and in the dim light of the lamp he watched, without touching. This was how he was used to living. Just being a spectator of what he could never have for himself. Until the day that person had stepped into his life. If he had never come to know Wu Xie, the high barriers that he had placed around himself would still have remained insurmountable. And his always lonely heart wouldn't know what a little joy was like in millennia. It was surprisingly easy to fall into a rhythm with Shen Wei after Wu Xie had been brought back to the other's apartment. Letting himself be led and cared for by those hands felt instinctive. The scolding for his “irresponsible” behavior in the rain never came and Wu Xie didn't put up any struggle as he was directed to the couch to rest. He knew Shen Wei would stay nearby, easing his fear of somehow losing this man again.

If you're going to tag your fic with both Novel and Drama Fandoms, I think it's super valid, I even encourage it for the sake of visibility! But please, I beg you, if the main canon is a Novel and your story is Drama-based, use the appropriate tag Alternate Canon - Drama Verse or Drama Verse. Chinese media fandoms are especially good at NOT doing this when most dramas are adapted from novels. I'd love to be able to better filter and curate my experience, but without proper tags, it's difficult.

Wu Xie could smell the city below, immersed in night, as if all the urban hubbub were a single entity. An entity who slept and woke up unaware of its own inner world, ignorant of the outside world. His senses were sharpening, like a sword forged slowly, immersed in fire and water and polished on stone and then again, until the blade was perfect. Until the day he reunited with Shen Wei, he was a shapeless piece of metal, the remains of what had once been a sword. Currently, he was immersed in the fire again, trying to understand the heat around him. Everything of meaning had remained if the Ghost King and the Mountain God were still there. He simply needed to re-learn how to reach it. That which dwelt inseparably from himself.
