even though thirteen is born bright eyed and beaming its clear the trauma of losing bill in such brutal circumstances is still so raw that despite still nursing the loneliness that’s now an intrinsic part of her she doesn’t want to travel with humans any more to spare her having her hearts broken yet again

but then the fresh new humans who helped her save their planet from its latest threat and let her kip on their couch get mixed up in her attempts to get the tardis back, and after multiple attempts to get them back home despite everything they’ve managed to worm their way into her affections

and when they return later on and plead with her to let them continue seeing the universe with her, against her better judgement she says yes because she’s just so lonely

but she vows to keep them at arms length because if she prevents them getting too attached to her it’ll be a softer blow to her fragile hearts when they do eventually leave. and though she wants to maintain this distance she’s also terrified that if they find out too much about her, who she is and the bloody past she’s trying to move on from, they’ll leave her sooner, so she puts on this facade, the happy go lucky cosmic tour guide who is always talking but never talks

and it works, for a while, she manages to keep up the pretence and they’re all having fun larking round the universe, until He pops up like a bad penny, and it all goes to shit

and now the facade is crumbling around her ears, she’s snapping at the fam and showing them the sharp edges she’s spent so long trying to hide and its not their fault, but she can’t tell them what is haunting her because they won’t understand what it’s like to see your planet burning once again at the hands of your former best friend and the existential crisis of discovering a life you don’t ever remembering living, and by opening up to them she’d be letting herself get too close

and then the cybermen come back too and the trauma of what happened to bill that was always there simmering just below the surface is dragged viciously back to the forefront. once again she’s faced with an impossible choice that only she can make: prevent their future of the human race from being altered or prevent the cyberwars. and when she tries to make amends by going to fight she brings her friends with her, because despite everything else she needs them

but she’s learned her lesson from the last time, and at the first sign of danger she does what she should have done with bill, and sends them away to safety… or so she thinks. two of them end up trapped on a ship with thousands of active cybermen, in worse danger than if they’d stuck by her side and almost certainly about to die

this new face was supposed to be a fresh start, a chance to do right by her companions this time and even though she’s tried so hard she’s failed them again

Thasmin Soulmate AUs

GUYS JUST IMAGINE

Thasmin with wrist timers. The Doctor’s fluctuates wildly because she travels in time, so she doesn’t ever pay attention to it, and Yaz gets called to investigate the train and is worried her soulmate is a criminal.

Thasmin with the first words your soulmate says to you tattooed on your arm. Yaz with “fat lot of use you two were” and the Doctor with “Hey!” and the Doctor not realizing because anybody could have said “Hey!” but Yaz internally dying.

Thasmin who stops aging at 18 until you meet your soulmate. Yaz who’s barely registered this whole not aging thing, and the Doctor who was already ageless, but who always looks so young.

Thasmin with first touches lighting up in color. Yaz’s arm lights up as the Doctor brushes it, telling Yaz that she’s calling her Ya, cause they’re friends now. The Doctor glances at her glowing palm and grins.

Thasmin with each other’s names on their wrists. The Doctor realizes who Yaz is when she introduces herself, and suddenly worries about the name on Yaz’s wrist.

Yaz’s wrist doesn’t say “the Doctor”
