I feel as though this is an important thing to understand and pick apart for safety and entertainment reasons.

Personally I have no issue with aged up characters when done respectfully: meaning they have changed from their minor counterparts and experienced age and growth mentally as well as physically.

And I have no issue with respectable aged up characters in more adult or dark themes. Yet I also respect it is not everyone's cup of tea as well. Communication and respect play big roles in this. As well as understanding, and acknowledging. People have boundaries and they vary, and that is important to acknowledge and respect.

If it is something you are not interested in, the simplest solution is blocking or just not engaging, or simply explaining it makes you uncomfortable if it comes up in group conversations.

Having roleplayed and drawn aged up characters, I do everything in my power to express they are no longer a minor, because I take that incredibly seriously. I do not or ever will condone such acts with minor characters, it simply sickens me, is a crime, and is a despicable act.

And having been called harsh things for this topic still hurts me to this day, but I also understand where the mindset can go.

Please be mindful.

And to spring this topic, please be careful online. There will be some creators out there that will "age up" a minor and it still be the core minor character. This is a red flag, can be dangerous. Be careful online, and avoid engaging in creators that will find attraction in minor characters and find loopholes around this.

I also advise if you unintentionally did age up a character like this before to simply change ways and work for improvement. Think of how someone grows over the years, their style, mood, appearance, perspective, personality. We were not the same as we were as kids. Keep that in mind to try and change those mistakes!

Just stumbled upon this post while scrolling, thought it would be important to share and comment takes on the topic.I personally found it hard to explain myself since this can be rocky subject given certain avenues, but is simple when broken down.

This is a 40 min long video of debate on the topic of aging up fictional characters and honestly, I don't think I ever explained myself correctly on this matter before this video. Aging up characters isn't something I personally do but I definitely agree with what's said there. This is really worth your time and I don't regret taking the time to watch it fully. It's a topic that need this kind of analysis.

Debate explores all arguments, oppositions, point of views from adults, young adults and minors in fandoms, as well as calling out and harassment. If people are still uncomfortable after watching this, feel free to leave, as long as you don't spread lies, call out and harass and just focus on something else in peace in your corner. 🤷
