A pike jumped out of the water likely chasing prey and got stuck in a branch and died. Now, a bird has made a nest in its mouth. One of the most interesting things I’ve seen.

Hozier's mention of the word "hushpukena" (a Choctaw word) in the song Butchered Tongue was, of course, not a random decision. In a song about the pain of being disconnected from your ancestral language and culture as a result of colonization and oppression from outside forces- which is something that both Irish and Native American people have experienced to varying degrees. Not only do Irish and Indigenous people have this shared history of colonization at the hands of the British, but Irish and Indigenous communities have a long history of support for one another.
Tumblr media
The usage of "hushpukena" is even more specific and important because it calls back to the mutually positive relationship between Irish and Choctaw people specifically. During the Great Hunger in Ireland, the Choctaw Nation donated $170, which is more than $5,000 in today’s money, to aid the Irish. Out of all American aid given to Ireland during the famine, the donation from the Choctaw Nation was the largest donation given.
Tumblr media
In 1990, leaders from the Choctaw Nation visited County Mayo in Ireland to participate in the first annual Famine Walk. In 1992, Irish people visited the Choctaw Nation and participated in a trek to commemorate the Trail of Tears. Also in 1992, a plaque commemorating the Choctaw's aid was installed in the house of the mayor of Dublin. In 1995, the Irish President Mary Robinson visited the tribal headquarters of the Choctaw Nation to thank the Choctaw people for their aid. In 2017, a sculpture named "Kindred Spirits" was built in Cork, Ireland to commemorate the Choctaw's aid and to continue friendship between the two communities. In 2018, the Taoiseach (prime minister) of Ireland visited Choctaw tribal headquarters and stated,"A few years ago, on a visit to Ireland, a representative of the Choctaw Nation called your support for us ‘a sacred memory’. It is that and more. It is a sacred bond, which has joined our peoples together for all time". In 2020, more than $1.8 million was raised by Irish people as aid for Native American people (specifically the Navajo and Hopi) during the pandemic, to help provide food, clean water, and health supplies.

I haven't purchased a HP item in close to a decade - I use the books I already had as doorstops or to prop a laptop up for meetings nowadays.
There is NO "death of the author" with JK Rowling - she controls and continues to profit from her IP, and uses that money to fund hate groups.

Ekleipsis
Sprint September 9/6/19
Time: 1 hr Word count: 1042 Logline: Moon Maiden falls in love with the Sun, but their love is not meant to be.
The day was approaching.
Luna Nova had waited for 18 cycles and soon the when the timing would be just right she would be able to see Them. It only happened for a few fleeting hours but in that time Nova was always the happiest. Her meetings with the Golden One made her work as Moon Maid worth the trouble. It was a hard task rolling the Moon across the night sky.
She was a moody one, the Moon. Since her creation, she’d fallen in love with the Ocean and though they could see each other every day they were fated to never touch, no matter how much the ocean tried to shift himself on the shore, it was never enough to move past the coast. This caused the moon enormous grief, so much that she would often turn away from the earth and forget to move herself across the sky. And thus the heavenly court assigned her maids, beautiful spirits of celestial dust to help her complete her cycle around the Earth. Moon loved them all of course, but she was not easy to coax even by them. Her frequent mood swings and her impossible demands made the maids want to turn into comets and sail away into the cosmos and many had. But not Luna Nova, she stayed because she had her own personal prize every 18 cycles when Moon would travel between the Earth and the Golden One. For a brief moment she could gaze their brilliance and if she was lucky the Golden One would smile at her and bless her with their light and warmth.
The Solaris, or the Golden One, was the ruler of the heavenly court, as they were the oldest in the system, and everything revolved around them. Solaris had no lover, they’re brilliance made the court turn away for fear of being blind. But not Nova she would cast her gaze upon Solaris and admire their shining beauty.
After centuries of her work, her eyes were not as they once were. She knew soon she would see the Golden One for the last time before her eyes would be cast into darkness. She knew she had to treasure their next encounter hoping this time she would finally catch the Golden One’s attention.
Solaris had noticed Nova, she was the only one that looked directly at them and every time a beautiful smile adorned her face. But as much as they enjoyed sharing a longing gaze, they knew it was cruel to do. Solaris knew of the consequences of looking at them directly, it had happened before the Tiny Planet. Solaris had loved them and would often shower him with light and warmth and Pluto welcomed it all. But too soon they love turned into tragedy and Pluto lost his eyes and drifted to the edge of the system where they could no longer see the lines of orbit. Everyday Solaris was pained with seen Pluto cycle in the wrong direction. Solaris promised themselves they would never love again. So for millions of years, Solaris worked without glancing down at their court. But then when Moon was formed and her affair with Ocean began, Moon, tilted the balance of Solaris’s heart.
They had promised themselves they wouldn’t gaze down at the other celestial beings but Nova was relentless. From the corner of their eye Solaris could see Nova every 18 cycles. Soon Solaris began to count the days for their next meeting, then he began glancing back at her. The way her delicate silver curls would fall around her face made Solaris smile and soon they found themselves giving Nova extra light and warmth.
Then on the day after 18 cycles, Nova finally spoke.
“Golden One,” Nova mustered up the courage to say with a curtsey.
“Moon Maiden.” Solaris greeted them with a small bow. “We meet again.”
“Indeed.” She smiled looking up at their golden eyes.
“For eons, we have seen each other like this. And yet I have never asked your name.”
“I am Luna Nova.” She curtsied again. “But Nova is what I prefer.”
“Nova. I am Solaris.” They said.
“I’m so happy I finally get to speak with you and see you so close.” from this distance Nova could see the literal sparkles that covered Solaris’s skin.
“Aye, I never noticed your eyes reflected the stars. Or that your lips gloss like galaxies.” Solaris said reaching over to pull Nova’s wild hair away from her face.
“I’ve been wanting to speak to you for a while,” Nova said. “But I was never brave enough.”
“What made you change?” Solaris asked.
“Misstress Moon gave me a warning,” Nova said sadly, “She said if I could no longer see, I could no longer serve her.”
Solaris’s heart rumbled with agony. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. You’ve given me a reason for being.” Nova said taking Solaris’s hands. They were soft and warm. “I’ve lived for the brief moments we are able to see each other. I think I would have lost my sight much sooner if I didn’t have to wait so long to see you.” She smiled.
Solaris smiled too, but it wasn’t joy they felt.
“I came to thank you,” Nova continued, “For noticing me and for giving me your warmth.”
“Is this goodbye?” Solaris asked squeezing Nova’s hands.
“I’m afraid so. I want to continue to serve Misstress Moon. But I want you to know I cherried every moment.”
“So did I,” Solaris said feeling a warm tear roll down their cheek. Nova reached up and brushed away the tear which then turned into a tiny spark in her hands. “Keep it.” Solaris said enclosing the spark in both her hands.
“Thank you,” Nova said. “I must leave now.”
Solaris took her hand an placed a warm kiss upon it. “Goodbye, Nova the Moon Maiden.”
Nova returned to her place beside Moon and helped her move across the sky and Solaris never looked down at her again.
But every 18 cycles on the day they were supposed to meet Solaris would shine upon Nova letting her feel that warmth. So great was this light that it cast a shadow upon the Earth. A phenomenon Misstress Moon began to call ekleipsis.
The end.
