Bonus points if “Glorfindel” was really just Finrod pretending to be Glorfindel because he figured Balrog killing gave him more street cred than werewolf killing.
Glorfindel: Is this a bad time to say I swore an oath and stormed back here to enact war on Sauron?
Galadriel: You did WHAT?!

And Glorfindel is just sitting in a tree singing and living his best second life.
Galadriel definitely pulls the "I'm older than the sun and the moon" card and everyone else hates it.
Elrond loves to pull the "In some sense the sun and the moon are my distant cousins" back at her and it sends everyone younger than him into a state of shock every time, they hate it.
Celeborn would pull the "My great uncle was the king" card if it wouldn't make people realize he could be in line for the throne. He's seen the amount of work Galadriel and Elrond put into not having to be queen or king and he isn't risking it. He's staying out of this.
Cirdan is older than all of them, but just wants to go to Valinor so he stays out of their way. He also has the "older than the sun and moon" card, but he also has the "I'm only here cause I'm loyal" card, no one knows who he's loyal to anymore so it worries them greatly when he pulls that card out.
Gandalf tries to hide his cards behind a smoke screen, but the previous four already know what his cards are. It's not hard to figure out, he declared all of his intentions upfront when he got to these shores.
Saruman has his cards up his sleeves and lies about everything. No one believes him anymore except Gandalf.

There’s actually a bonus level you complete when you have a copy of the Silmarillion in every room of your home, just in case.
And that is why I own 14+ copies of the Silm.
I love this fandom, look at this person's comment:

Princess Paige, resting at home.
After over two months of back and forth to the vet for an allergy diagnosis, bloodwork was finally done Tuesday (per my insistence). All of her eating issues and fussiness are due to kidney failure. She was admitted Wednesday to Thursday for fluids, numbers aren’t coming down very fast, and other testing shows her in stage 3 or 4.
We had options of moving her to a facility further away for an additional day of fluids or bringing her home for doggie hospice and giving fluids at home. Since she is blind (has been since birth - we adopted her 18 months ago from a shelter, but she was a surrender with a full history and we confirmed with DNA testing) and she is fussy about eating (if she thinks we’re leaving the house, she stops eating or hides her food until we get back), we brought her home.
At least we have a why now, even though prognosis is not good. She did eat when she got home, tail is wagging, and per the staff at the ER, she tried to pick fights with the other dogs (rough tough cream puff this one is).
I’m mentally exhausted from this week, so if updates to stories are scarce and interactions distracted for a while, this is the why.
PS- she put herself in ‘doggie jail’. She has a dozen places she can sleep, but she likes her crate, and I think after the ordeals of this week, she wanted a quiet, safe place to be.

I completed my Bachelor Degree in History of Gondolin back in 2007, then moved on to a Master’s in Elven Studies in 2010. A couple years later I wrote a college level course called History of the Noldor; I did not teach it at a college but I did run it online one summer via Skype for funsies. I’ve also given several formal presentations on The Silmarillion, and I can write a fic on pretty much anything Silm-related at this point, so I think that means I achieved doctorate level standing at this point.
One thing I love about the Silmarillion is that because it’s so massive, its fans have to specialize.
Like I love everything but my Silm major is in Finrod studies, with a minor in obscure background characters.
Reblog this post with your Silmarillion “speciality,”

It’s good to see this ancient head canon still lives on.
Erestor loves cats
Glorfindel: Hey, what’s the name of the guy who lives down the hall? Erestor: His cats' names are Walter and Rose. Glorfindel: That's not what I asked, love. Erestor: That is all the information I have.

I am the person reading my own fanfic publicly.
1988 - I read my first fanfics in public. I don't even have a word for what I'm doing.
1993 - I start distributing them; physical copies at my high school and later the nearest college
1997 - I go to college and finally have a word for 'stories about other peoples' characters'! Distribution continues, now online.
2004 - I start reading fanfics at open mics. Zero regrets.
2006 - I get to MC the Tolkien Track at Dragon*Con. I host five different fanfic panels. Later that same year, I'm at my first NaNoWriMo event. During the dinner, three participants chat about how fanfic isn't real writing. I'm mostly quiet. During some icebreaker/announcement time, I talk about events I'm hosting. One young participant at another table blurts out who I am; another adds 'I've read all your fanfic!' Three naysayers clutch their pearls and look like they might faint. One of the best moments of my life.
More of the same for many years, including top billing of the panelists at one convention and some VIP treatment at another (was contacted and asked to present versus me filling out a form somewhere, then getting pre-con walk-about with head of programming and lots of 'is this room okay for you' sorts of questions to make sure amenities are good.)
2017 - I enter a library. There's someone shelving books on the top shelf standing on a ladder. I say hello to her; she says hello, then suddenly switches to 'Oh! I read your latest chapter last night! It was so good!'. Announcement is heard throughout the library due to the height at which she was at. I am unphased and stay to chat and answer questions.
These are but a handful of the lovely encounters and experiences I've had over the years because fanfiction was not stigmatized for me. Over the years, I had multiple teachers who encouraged my fanfic writing (even though we didn't have a name for it). I had peers who wanted to be self-inserts into the storylines.
One of my favorite panels I've done was at a small public library one-day scifi/fantasy convention. I ran a panel on how to write fanfiction in the children's library for ages 5 to 12, and it was the best to have these kids who were all proud of what they wrote, and all excited to write about their favorite characters -- especially the five year old who was writing 1970s Wonder Woman stories (her mother helped her with some of the words).
So I'm not going to click on anything because I don't want to see the results. I want to live in a world where everyone can be proud and excited, where there is no shame or stigma for fanfic writers.
Because we're all awesome.
Even those of you in the back shaking your heads in doubt, plagued by imposter syndrome and negative comments.
We're ALL awesome.

I live in a place that is snow-coded, and I find the two situations are not in conflict.
When it snows here and gets very cold and windy, I can walk on top of the glazed snow without sinking in. I can even walk on top of it with my dog. However, if I try that plus husband, it will sink in at least a little. But there’s solid ground underneath, so if it is below a certain temperature, it will compact but still won’t sink. We had one winter where we were about four feet in on the snow and another storm hit, so I climbed on top of the frozen drifts to shovel some of it further into the yard because the snow blower could not throw it higher. Felt very elfy that day (but also cold). Legolas would totally prance across this shit.
I take the Helcaraxe as being over water in many places, and it’s a host of people with all the things they brought (looking at you with all those jewels Finrod). The movement is warming up the ice, it’s cracking (you don’t call it grinding ice if it’s solid many feet down), and shifting, and ice is slippery to walk on. I’ve slid on snow a few times and it’s unpleasant but I stay upright, but I have fallen on my ass and hurt myself on ice. I’ve fallen on ice and had to crawl back to a door or a car to get assistance getting up. I can handle a fair amount of snow. It’s a big fuck you from me to ice.
Because the scenarios are so different, and experiences I’ve had with both, I have never questioned that these two things happen in the same world. I can see how someone not intimate with cold weather would have questions.
Wait, how is it that Legolas could walk over snow, yet fingolfin’s host had elves that fell through the ice when they were walking on the grinding ice?
And don’t say “magic” because i’m asking why it’s not consistent. Either elves are light enough or something to not fall into snow, much less ice, or they are heavy enough to fall through snow/ice.
I don’t care about the explanation, but it has to be either/or, or there needs to be a specific reason why one does work and the other doesn’t.

I was attacked by art today.
Actually, I was having some zen art time; today would have been Artanis the cat’s 15th birthday, but she passed away during the pandemic. So I was arting, and I made a really lovely Glorfindel inspired piece. And usually I’ll do things in pairs, and I would have made an Erestor inspired piece, but I thought, what about an Ecthelion one instead?
Now, clearly, no matter what, I’m required to be on team Glorfindel/Erestor the rest of my life, but, you know, variety, so I had some blue and silver paint, and it was going well, and then suddenly things happened and there was fucking paint in my eye and mouth and, well, here’s what my glasses looked like:
Tumblr media
So obviously Erestor is a jealous muse, and every bit the asshole I’ve known him to be, because that’s my explanation and if you read this far and the tumblr kitty game is still going you should boop me now.
