A/N: This was a fic I’d originally posted on Wattpad last year. Hope you guys enjoy!
Description: Working for Mr.Yoo Kihyun was an absolute nightmare; Y/N hated everything about him, and was convinced he was either part demon or at least some sort of reptilian hybrid- never in a million years would she have expected to learn that he was, indeed only human, and even worse; that he might even be…likeable?

My eyes opened slowly as I stretched my arms and legs out, feeling the coolness of my comforter against my face. I took a moment to adjust my vision, but then I caught sight of my suitcase next to my feet at the other end of the bed.
"I OVERSLEPT!" I shot out of bed and ran to the bathroom, shoving my toothbrush into my mouth.
I brushed my teeth as I walked around my apartment, grabbing the outfit that I was smart to lay out the night before. I checked the time.
45 minutes.
I grabbed my suitcase, backpack, my phone, and my keys and then headed out the door. In the Uber on my way to the airport, my phone vibrated in my hand.
Kihyun: Where are you? We were supposed to meet half an hour ago to check in.
I bit my lip and tried to sound casual.
Me: I'm on my way already, just overslept. Be there in a bit!
I put my phone in the zipper of my backpack and decided to not worry myself with Kihyun, knowing that he'd just make me more nervous about getting there on time.
10 minutes left.
"Uhm...sir? Is there any way we could speed this up? I'm gonna be late for my flight," I leaned forward, trying to sound extra polite.
"Sorry, miss. We would be there in two minutes if it weren't for this crazy traffic."
I felt the panic rise in my chest, but I tried not to freak out, "I understand... thank you..."
Finally, traffic let up a little and we were moving faster. When my driver pulled up to the airport entrance, I swung the car door open and yanked my suitcase out of the backseat.
"Thank you!" I yelled before slamming the door and running inside.
I ran over to the area where people were waiting in lines to check their bags into the plane, and all the way at the end, I spotted Kihyun, who was checking his phone and looking around, tapping his foot. I took advantage of the fact that I was wearing my sneakers and I ran all the way to where he was. When he saw me, he rolled his eyes.
"You're late."
Out of breath, I put up my index finger.
"But..." Breath, "I made it," Breath.
He sighed, "Come on," He grabbed the handle of his suitcase, and just as I was about to grab mine, he reached out his hand, "I got it."
"No, it's okay. I can-"
"I said I got it," He was aggressive as he snatched the handle out of my hand, but I didn't recoil the way I usually would.
Is he actually doing something nice?
We approached the counter and checked our luggage in, and were handed our boarding passes. We were able to relax a little more as we walked over to the metal detectors.
"You sure you didn't wanna just check that in?" Kihyun asked, pointing to my backpack.
"Actually, my wallet and the documents are in here. I don't want to risk losing it. Precious cargo, right?" I held onto the strap.
He nodded, "I guess that's smart."
We placed our shoes and belts into the plastic tubs for them to go through the metal detectors, and then we went through the machines ourselves.
Finally, we got to a table where they would do a search of the carry-ons. A TSA grabbed my backpack from the bin and placed it in front of herself, carefully unzipping it with gloved hands. She saw my wallet, the documents, and my small makeup bag. She was about to pass it back to me, but then pulled her arm back,
"Whoops, forgot to check the pockets-" She stuck her hand into the side pocket of my backpack, and immediately, my heart started pounding in my chest as I remembered what it contained.
My teeny, tiny, pink bikini.
My face was red and hot as she pulled out the skimpy bathing suit. I glanced at Kihyun, who was almost as red as I was, with his mouth hung slightly.
"All done," The TSA shoved the little pink shoe string back into the backpack, a slight blush on her face.
I wanted to die right then and there.
WHY DID I LET THEM TALK ME INTO PACKING THAT STUPID THING!?
"Thanks..." I muttered, slightly sarcastically as I grabbed the backpack and walked past Kihyun.
We walked in silence and I avoided eye contact at all costs. He cleared his throat to say something, but I put up my hand to stop him, "I wasn't planning on wearing it. I know we're gonna be too busy to even swim, and I really don't even wear things like that. I bought it when I was drunk in Hawaii and-"
"I was gonna ask if you wanted some Starbucks...?" He tightened his lips, the corner of his mouth curling up as he stifled a smile.
"Oh-" Again, my face was burning.
"Come on," He chuckled, "I'll buy."
I let out a deep sigh and followed him over to the Starbucks in the waiting area. We ordered and waited on the side for the coffees to be ready. We stood in silence. My eyes wandered around the room, and he kept track of the time.
"We only have about five minutes until we're called," He said, beginning to tap his foot again.
"You seem nervous," I said carefully, not wanting to set him off.
He furrowed his brows, "Nervous? I don't get nervous."
I raised my eyebrows and turned my head as a smirk creeped up onto my face.
"Kihyun? Your drinks are ready," The barista's voice was forcefully low and flirtatious as she called out his name.
I watched as she put on her best smile, but he was too busy checking his phone to notice, "Thank you."
Instinctively, I scoffed at her efforts.
"What?" He asked.
"Oh, nothing. Let's go," I walked ahead of him over to the seats closest to our terminal.
We waited for only a minute or so, and then we heard a woman's voice over the speaker,
"10AM flight to Seoul, South Korea now boarding."
Kihyun sighed as he stood up and held out his hand. I stared at him for a moment, confused.
Does he want me to take his hand?
He rolled his eyes, "I'm not asking you to dance. I'm trying to carry your backpack."
"Oh, right. Thanks." I handed him my backpack and we walked over to the growing group of people lining up.
When we got inside the plane, Kihyun put my backpack in the overhead compartment and then ducked his head to look at me, "Scoot to the window seat so I can sit in the middle."
I scoot down one seat and turned to look out of the window, feeling excited to be able to look out when we took off.
"Maybe I should've fought you for the window seat," His voice was close to my ear, and it sent shivers down my spine.
"We can switch if you want-"
He smiled and shook his head, "I'm kidding. I've had the window seat a million times- once won't kill me."
I smiled, "Thanks..."
"I wonder when they'll get here," I said, motioning to the empty seat next to him.
Kihyun shrugged, "Not sure. But hopefully he's not too loud because I'm already tired."
He put his head back on the seat and shut his eyes. I nodded and continued to look out the window.
It wasn't until after the flight attendant was through with the instructions that I realized that the third person never came, but when I turned to Kihyun to let him know he could scoot over, I noticed he was fast asleep. Even as the plane rumbled as we took off, Kihyun's stirred not once. Meanwhile, i was silently flipping out- I've always hated planes. I had to be partially drunk just to board the stupid plane when I went to Hawaii with Lizzie and Karina.
"It's gonna be a long flight..." I muttered.
I opened my eyes slowly. The plane was dark, and only the little reading lights above us were on.
"What the..." I looked over and saw Kihyun's head resting on my shoulder. My eyes widened, and I wasn't quite sure how to react. I looked around, and everyone was in their own world- some were asleep, some reading, some having quiet conversations- but everyone was minding their own business.
Would it be so wrong if I just let him sleep...?
I checked the time on my phone, and yawned.
Eight hours in.
My eyes still felt heavy, and as soon as I leaned my head back, I was back under.
"Y/N...." My name was whispered in my ear so deliciously, I almost thought it was part of my dream.
"Y/N..." Kihyun's was a little louder, and my eyes opened.
I looked up at him through sleepy eyes and immediately, my eyes widened at the realization that my head was on his shoulder now. I quickly sat up and cleared my throat, "Sorry..."
He chuckled, "Don't worry about it. I didn't wanna wake you up when the flight attendant was walking through so I ordered for us," He pulled down my folding table and then his own.
"Oh...thanks," I yawned, still waking up.
I looked out of the window at the vast ocean below us. It was beautiful, but I still found myself wanting to puke.
"Not a fan of planes?" He asked, leaning over to look with me.
I shook my head, "Nope. I make it policy to always stay on land."
He laughed, "Good policy. I don't really like flying either."
I raised an eyebrow, "Really? You seem completely fine."
"Well, you're clearly a nervous wreck, so one of us has to be fine, right?" He smiled.
His smile made my heart flutter.
After we'd eaten our meals, I found myself desperately needing to pee, but I didn't want to make him move.
"Uhm, Mr.Yoo?" I bit my lip.
"Mm?" He looked over at me.
"I have to..." I cleared my throat, slightly embarrassed, "use the bathroom..."
"Oh, sorry-" He reached to undo his buckle, but I put my hand up,
"No, it's okay. You don't need to get up." I undid my buckle and stood up.
Crap. Should I face forward? Or should I do it with my back to him?
I didn't really decide before my body started scooting out, my face toward him.
Suddenly, the plane shook in a moment of turbulence, causing me to fall forward onto Kihyun.
"Sorry!" I squealed.
Kihyun's expression was a mix of surprise and embarrassment.
I managed to quickly get up and then get out of our row. I kept my head down as I walked all the way over to the bathroom.
I looked in the small mirror and groaned.
I can't believe that happened.
I splashed water onto my face and took a deep breath as I readied myself to go back out.
When I'd reached our row, Kihyun motioned for me to wait while he got out of his seat so that I could go in. I blushed, replaying my fall in my head. When I'd settled into my seat, I waited for Kihyun to take back his seat, but he sat in the third seat, closest the aisle.
I felt incredibly embarrassed.
I made him uncomfortable...
I sunk in my seat, and my heart sunk with me.
"Y/N..." I heard his voice close to my ear again.
"Hmm?" I opened my eyes and looked over.
"Come on, it's time to go." He stood up and stretched.
I stretched my arms and then stood up as well.
A few people went by before us, but once he got my backpack, we were both making our way oit of the plane.
It was windy and the air was thick with smog.
I coughed, feeling the air coat my throat.
"Yup. It's Korea," He sighed.
We silently stood in long lines, presenting our passports and documentation and then we waited for our luggage. He passed me my backpack and then carried both of our suitcases to the front of the airport, where a man in a black uniform stood holding a sign that read, "Yoo Ki-hyun".
We walked over to the man who smiled as soon as he saw Kihyun. Kihyun smiled back and they greeted each other.
I stood to the side and waited for them to finish. Kihyun glanced at me and then motioned for me to come forward. He seemed to introduce me, and the man and I bowed to each other.
I didn't speak much Korean, but I tried my best to use what I did know, "Annyeonghaseyo."
Kihyun looked at me with a pleasantly surprised expression, but then turned his attention back to the man and started walking, motioning for me to follow them.
I was quiet next to Kihyun in the back seat as I listened to him carry a conversation with the driver. It was strange to see Kihyun speaking so kindly to him. Occasionally, Kihyun would glance over at me and I could almost see the corner of his mouth turn upward.
"Woah..." My mouth hung open slightly as we pulled up to the ginormous hotel. It was beautiful- much nicer than any place I'd ever stayed in.
"What?" Kihyun asked as he unbuckled himself.
"It's so beautiful..." I said, opening the car door.
Kihyun got out of the car and then walked around to my side.
"Oh come on..." He briefly examined the hotel and then looked back at me, "I'm sure Hawaii had much nicer views..." He smirked.
I blushed, my mind flashing back to the bikini.
"Come on, let's go check in."

The weekend went by torturously slowly, though I managed to fix the errors in the documents. I stood outside of the building for a long time- maybe ten minutes before I dared to walk inside. My skirt was just below my knee, which I made sure of.
"I can't stand out here all day..." I whispered to myself, trying to build up the courage to go in.
I slowly walked forward, my hands gently pushing the heavy glass door open. The smell of coffee filled my nose from across the lobby. I bit my lip, wondering if I should stop for coffee, or just rip the band aid off and face Kihyun.
"Black coffee it is." I'm a coward.
I walked over to the bar and waited as Shownu finished up with another customer. He saw me and smiled warmly. I smiled back politely, too lost in my thoughts to let him brighten my morning.
"Good morning, Y/N," He greeted as i approached.
"Good morning, Shownu," I said, grabbing my wallet from my bag.
"One black coffee please," I said, looking down.
"...rough morning?" He asked.
I looked up at him, "Yeah...how'd you know?" I asked.
"I'm not a mind reader... just saw you standing outside for like, ten minutes with," He pointed at me, "that look on your face..." He chuckled.
I blushed, "Yeah... well, it's definitely been a weekend," I said.
He poured my black coffee into a large cup, "To lift your spirits," He handed me the cup.
I sighed, "I have money, Shownu..."
"And I have more customers," He said, waving up the person behind me.
I was shocked by how nonchalant he was as he shooed me away, though not before giving me a wink.
I smiled and walked slowly over to the elevator, coffee in hand.
I swallowed hard as I saw the numbers get higher and higher on the small screen in the elevator. It felt like that scene in Hunger Games when the tributes were being lifted up into the field...to their deaths.
Dramatic, but that's how it felt.
The doors opened with a ding and I stood there for a moment until the doors were threatening to close once more. I finally walked out and headed straight to my desk. The office was buzzing, people were walking back and forth, and a low rumble of conversations sounded throughout the floor.
I pulled the documents out of my bag and set them on my desk. I wanted to get it over with- seeing him. I just wanted to give him the papers and go back to minding my own business.Just then, the elevator doors opened, and the office got a little quieter.
Kihyun stepped forward, his brief case in one hand and his phone in the other. He kept his eyes on the screen as he walked straight ahead. Without a word, he set his brief case down and grabbed his key out of his back pocket, putting it into the door handle.
I held my breath as I waited for him to turn to look at me, but it didn't happen. He simply opened his door, grabbed his brief case and walked into his office, closing the door behind himself.
Everyone went back to their business, but I felt stuck. I looked nervously at the stack of papers on my desk, and decided to just get it over with. I picked up the papers and knocked softly on his door.
"Mr.Yoo?" I tried to be loud, but it felt like my voice was catching in my throat.
"Come in."
I opened his door slowly, peeking my head inside, "I fixed the mistakes in the permits and Mr.Lee's contract."
"Oh yes, bring them here," He said, motioning for me to come inside.
I nodded and walked into the office, "You were right, there were a lot of errors," I said, trying to sound as casual as possible as I set the papers onto his desk.
He nodded, "It happens... no harm done," He said reassuringly, though he didn't make eye contact.
He wasn't being aggressive, wasn't upset, and didn't even seem to be even mildly irritated.
I almost didn't know what to do next until he finally looked up at me, a questioning expression on his face.
"Was there anything else?" He asked.
I swallowed, "No, just...just that. Alright, I'll get out of your hair..."
He nodded, "Alright..."
I turned around and walked to the door.
"Wait-"
With my hand on the door knob, I looked back, "Yeah?"
He stood up from his chair and buttoned his blazer carefully, walking over to me. He came really close, only two four feet or so away, sending my heart racing, anticipating his next move.
"I almost forgot," He reached his hand into his back pocket and pulled out an envelope.
"Huh?" I asked, feeling slightly irritated- though Ii wasn't quite sure why.
"Your...plane ticket?" He handed it to me.
"Oh yes, of course," I grabbed the envelope from his hand, "Thank you..." I said, looking up at him.
He clears his throat and then takes a step back, "Yeah, well... It's part of your job, you don't need to thank me," He said, awkwardly scratching his neck.
"Right," I turned back around to open the door, and before it behind me, I looked back once more, "Still...thanks."
I sat back down at my desk and put the envelope into my purse, feeling a rush... Excitement? Though only a few days before, I was agonizing over how boring the trip would be.
What is going on with me?
My eyes kept flicking back and forth on my computer screen, from the spreadsheets to the time in the corner. My knee was bouncing up and down in anticipation. I hadn't even packed a single piece of clothing, and still had to run to the store for things I needed.
Finally, everyone started getting up and gathering their things. "Yes!" I muttered, hurriedly grabbed my bag and stood up. As I was about to start walking, Kihyun's office door opened, startling me.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you..." He said, a slight smile at the corner of his lips.
Embarrassed, I nodded, "It's okay... you heading out too?"
He shook his head, "Not just yet. I have some work to do here still, just going to get some coffee."
"Oh, yeah...gotta...get that cup-o-joe, you know what I mean?" I quickly looked away, wanting so desperately to slap my forehead for being so awkward.
He laughed, "Yeah, cup-o-joe..."
"Shall we walk?" I asked, trying to ignore the fact that I'd just said that.
"Yeah," He motioned for me to go first.
There was still a decent group of people standing outside of the elevator, waiting to pile on in, but as soon as they saw Kihyun, they all moved to the side and pretended to be on their phones or in conversations. They were afraid of him.
He didn't seem to notice, but as the doors were closing, everyone was sneaking glances at us.
"I guess that's one of the perks of being the boss, huh?" I asked, trying to avoid standing in silence on the way down.
"What is?" He asked.
"Just that...nevermind," I smiled and looked straight ahead, willing for the doors to open.
"Ah, you mean the empty elevator?" You asked, turning to me.
I nodded. You chuckled and then shrugged, "The boss is always the monster," His smile faded and he looked down for a moment.
The doors opened and I walked out first, "Not always..." I glanced at him, our eyes meeting.
He smiled widely, but then caught himself. He cleared his throat and extended his arm, "Well, I will see you tomorrow at the airport."
I nodded, "Yes you will."
When my hand touched his, I remembered when he'd helped me up that night. What was weird was... that night, I thought it had been the closeness of our faces that had brought this feeling... but I had that same feeling at this moment, merely shaking his hand.
And as I looked up to meet your eyes, I could tell you felt it too.
When I got home, I grabbed my suit case and threw it onto my bed, along with the backpack I'd take as a carry on. I walked over to my laptop and put on some music to relieve the mundaneness of the task at hand, and then made my way over to my closet.
"This is so daunting..." I let out a sigh as I looked at all the clothes crowding my small closet.
I started withe the basics- two pairs of jeans, two pairs of sweats, some tees. Then, my phone started ringing. Lizzie's name popped up on my screen and II answered.
"Yo."
"So!?" Lizzie and Karina said in unison.
"So...what?" I asked, pretending not to know what they were asking about.
"Stop being stupid. How'd it go with Mr.Yoo?" Karina yelled into the phone.
I couldn't help but smile, but I tried to play it cool, "It was fine."
"Fine?"
"Yup."
"So, we've been waiting all weekend long to hear that it was 'fine'?" Lizzie's voice was flat and I could almost see her rolling her eyes.
"Well, what else can I say? It was good."
"Ugh..." Karina groaned.
"Well... I mean, there was a difference-"
"What kind of difference?" They squealed into the phone and I laughed.
"I mean, I don't know... he was just different today... He's usually very collected and aggressive, but today..." I trailed off and bit my lip, thinking of when we shook hands.
"Do you think he might...like you?" Lizzie's question seemed ridiculous as I heard it.
"No way," I scoffed.
"I don't know, Y/N, I mean...think about it. You guys were out until really late the other night. He sang to you."
I rolled my eyes, "It doesn't mean anything. He would've sang to any girl who would've been picked."
"True, but he didn't get another girl. He got you. Maybe that shifted something."
I thought for a moment, "Well... If he does, which I highly doubt, then...I guess I'll find out soon..."
"You wanna know what I think?" Karina said, her tone low and mischievous.
"What?"
"I think that you should pack that cute little pink two piece, just in case..." Her words made Lizzie giggle.
My face got hot, "What? No. He's my boss."
"So hot," Karina laughed.
"That's my cue to hang up. Alright, I'm gonna finish packing."
"Alright, Love you!" Lizzie said.
"Pack the bikini! And sexy underwear!"
I pressed the end button and put my phone on my desk.
Staring at my dresser, I stood there for a moment, hands on my hips, lips pursed. I walk over and open the top drawer. There it was; the little pink bikini I'd bought last summer but never used. It was almost as intimidating as Kihyun.
Should I?
I picked it up, almost embarrassed? I never would've bought it, except Karina and Lizzie had gotten me drunk on vacation and I was feeling bold. I quickly walked over to my suitcase and shoved the little scraps of fabric into the little side pocket of my backpack. "I'm not gonna need it," I whispered to myself, trying to bring myself some sort of relief.
I'd finished packing relatively quickly, mainly focusing on business attire since I knew we'd be in meetings every day, though I did pack a few leisure pieces. "Finally done," I sighed as I threw myself onto my bed.
And then, feeling exhausted from all of the excitement and anticipation, I'd drifted off to sleep.

"Ladies," Wonho walked up to our table with a tray of drinks and set them down in front of us.
"You didn't have to do that," Karina smiled at Wonho, grazing his muscular arm with her long nails.
"I didn't, actually- they're from," he scanned the crowd and then settled his eyes on someone, "Him."
Wonho was pointing at the end of the room at a table. We all looked at where he was pointing.
I furrowed my brow with irritation, and Karina waved Wonho away.
Kihyun was looking straight at me. He seemed to challenge me with his eyes.
Usually, I would break the stare- look away in intimidation or fear...but I had a stomach full of alcohol and a head full of dangerous thoughts.
I grabbed the drink and put it up to my lips, "The storm," I echoed Karina's words as I, once again, threw my head back and chugged the glass, using my arm to wipe my mouth (and my lipstick).
Kihyun raised his eyebrows slightly, surprised, and the corner of his mouth curled into a half smile.
I stood up from the table, "Watch my bag," I said to Karina and Lizzie, who had watched the entire silent exchange.
"You sure you wanna-" Lizzie began to speak, but all I could focus on was walking over to Kihyun.
As I walked, I remembered those times in the lobby when I would walk toward Shownu- my heart racing, palms sweating, knees going weak by the second, and how my courage would drain from me as soon as I reached my destination.
But now, in this moment, it was nothing like that.
In fact, it seemed like the more distance closed between us, the more strength I got.
Finally, I was face to face with him, and this time...he was the one looking up at me.
"Mr.Yoo." I said, my face as expressionless as his usually is toward me.
He leaned back in his seat and then motioned for me to sit down.
I didn't take my eyes off of him as I sat across the table.
"Y/N, I'm going to need you to keep this between us. Like I said, I like to be professional-" His tone was firm, the way it usually was at the office, making my blood boil.
"Don't you talk to me like that," I snapped at him.
He seemed to be caught off guard by my tone, "What?" He asked.
"We're not in the office, which means here," I motioned to the room around us, "You're not my boss," I said.
He looked around, trying to make sure no one was listening, "Excuse me?" He asked, an incredulous expression on his face, "I may not be your boss out here, but you still need to respect me. What you say to me out here might affect our relationship in the office, so I suggest you watch yourself," He said.
My courage kept growing, "Or what? You're one to talk, considering the display you just put on," I said, pointing to the platform.
He caught himself and looked down. I could see his Adam's apple move as he swallowed.
"I know...I'm sorry," He said.
Even getting fired for my drunken rebellion would've been less surprising than what he just said.
"...what?" I asked, my heart steadying.
"I know I put a lot of pressure on my employees-" He looked at me, connecting his eyes to mine, "especially on you, to be professional and, well... I know I haven't set the best example tonight," He looked back down.
Sitting there across from me, out of the suit, out of the monster-chair... he seemed almost human.
"You're not just hard on me," I said, "You're a jerk."
He bit his lip, "yeah..."
A short silence fell between us, making me give in.
"But I accept your apology," I said, reaching out and taking the beer that was in front of him.
His mouth hung open in disbelief at my confidence, but I couldn't care any less as I downed the contents of the bottle.
"You sing nicely," I said, setting the bottle back down and releasing a satisfied breath.
His face turned bright red, "Thank you...but I-"
"I won't tell anyone," I sighed, looking back at Karina and Lizzie. Lizzie was staring at me, but of course, Karina's attention was completely focused on Wonho who had taken advantage of my empty seat.
When I turned back to Kihyun, his eyes were intensely fixed on me, making me feel small again- but in a different way than it usually did.
"I'm drunk..." I said, looking down.
And for the first time ever, Kihyun smiled at me.
"No kidding," He said with a laugh.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I shot up in my bed, my heart racing. I looked around, struggling to figure out where I  was.
Home.
I felt around on my bed for my phone and finally found it by my feet. I checked the screen for the time and sighed.
11:00AM, already?
I sighed and sat at the edge of my bed. My head was throbbing.
"Never again..." I said, holding my head as I remembered everything I'd had to drink the night before.
The shot, the iced teas, Kihyun's beer-
My eyes widened at the full realization of what had happened last night.
"What have I done?" I smack my forehead with my palm.
I jumped out of bed, the room spinning slightly as I tried to find my balance. I clumsily made my way to the kitchen, holding onto the wall for stability. I turned the stove on and then put a kettle of water on to make myself some tea.
I sat down at the small table by my kitchen window and stared out at the street, my mind wandering to the events of the previous night...
"I'm drunk..." I said, looking down.
And for the first time ever, Kihyun smiled at me.
"No kidding," He said with a laugh.
"Don't laugh at me..." I glared at him.
He cleared his throat, "Sorry..." But he couldn't contain his laughter.
I tried to keep my face expressionless, but his laughter was contagious.
Before I realized it, we were both laughing hysterically while the rest of the room exchanged loud conversations around us.
"You have..." He motioned to his mouth.
"What?" I asked, confused.
"Lipstick..." He laughed a little bit more.
I licked at my teeth,  thinking maybe my lipstick had ended up there.
"No...here, let me," he leaned over to better reach me.
His left hand held my face still while his right wiped at the outer edges of my mouth. His eyes were focused on the task at hand, and his lips were pressed together in concentration. My face was burning up as I stared at him- his sharp, yet delicate features distracting me from how incredibly messed up I was.
He caught me staring, and for a moment, his eyes truly connected with mine.
What a beautiful, yet fleeting moment it was.
"All done..." He said softly.
I looked down, "Thanks..."
Karina walked up to our table, my purse slung over her shoulder, "Uhm...sorry to interrupt..." she says before turning to me, "Lizzie's feeling sick and Wonho offered us a ride since he's about to get off in a few minutes."
I pursed my lips and then looked at Kihyun.
He stared back at me, and I swear he was thinking the same thing as I was.
"I'm...I'm not ready to go home yet..." I said.
Karina looked confused, "Are you sure?"
I nod, leaning back in my seat.
"Alright...call me when you get home..." She says, narrowing her eyes at Kihyun as she turned to walk back to Lizzie and Wonho.
Kihyun propped his elbows on the table and intertwined his fingers together, "Y/N... what are you doing?" He asked, his question was loaded, though it seemed superficial.
I leaned forward as well, matching him in closeness.
"I saw you here last week, too." I stared at him, gauging his reaction.
The only change in his expression was the lifting of his eyebrow.
"Oh yeah?" He asked.
I nodded, thinking I'd shocked him.
"I saw you too," He said.
I was dumbfounded.
"What?" I ask.
I was snapped out of my memories by the high-pitched scream of the kettle. I poured the steaming hot water into my mug and brought it to the table, steeping the little bag of tea. The smell of chamomile settling my increasingly upset stomach. I was hungry, but I knew that any sort food would probably make me barf.
I looked across from where I was sitting, and saw the stack of papers that I needed to work on. I put my hand to my forehead and sighed.
I'd forgotten about my little weekend task...
Suddenly, anxiety filled my chest as I imagined how my interaction with Kihyun would be. After the night we'd had...how could we go back?
He sighed, "Last week, as I was about to walk off of the stage...I watched as you ran out with- uhm..." He pointed over to where I was sitting with Lizzie and Karina.
"Karina..." I filled in the blank.
He nodded, "Karina."
I scrunched my eyebrows and thought for a moment.
"Why didn't you say anything?" I asked.
"Why didn't you?"
I shrugged, unsure of how to answer.
"When I bought you the food the other night at the office..." He looked down at his hands, "I guess... I was thanking you."
"Thanking me? For what?" I asked.
"For not telling anyone or...for not using it against me," He said, a small, sad half smile on his lips.
I thought back to when I was leaving his office the other day and I'd asked him if he'd ever heard the 'Hyeya' song.
"I mean...I did bring it up- at least a little bit," Feeling sheepish as he thanked me.
He laughed, "True...but I was being a dick to you."
I smiled, "Well, at least you're aware..."
"I'm always aware..." He shrugged.
I sipped my tea half heartedly, and by the time I was halfway through with it, it had gone cold. I sighed as I got up and placed the mug in the sink.
I can't focus here.
I decide on going to the coffee shop down the street. At least there, the buzz of people around me might help me take my mind off of him.
I walk over to my dresser and grab a fluffy white sweater and some blue jeans- knowing full well that I'd regret the sweater around 3:00pm, but deciding on it anyway. I removed my dress, feeling instant relief as I freed myself from its vice- body con dresses always made me feel like a stuff sausage after a night of drinking. I reached for the pants and as I bent over to put them on, I glanced at my knee, where I saw a dry, deep crimson scab.
"What in the world-"
"Mr.Yoo...you wanna go somewhere?" I asked, suddenly feeling a burst of energy.
"What do you mean?" He looked me up and down cautiously.
I rolled my eyes, "Not like that. I'm hungry."
He sighed with relief, "Good God. I thought I was gonna have to call your friends back here," He laughed.
I was slightly offended by how relieved he seemed to be, "Ouch. Thanks." I said, standing up.
He looked up at me, "No, not like that- I just meant I was relieved- not relieved, I was glad- I mean, you're beautiful but I meant-" His face got more and more red as he rambled on.
I blushed.
"I seemed to have had too much to drink..." He looked away nervously.
I smiled at how pathetic he was acting, "...come on."
I started walking and he followed behind me.
"Where are we going?" He asked.
I shrugged, "Where that heavenly smell takes us," I say, pointing up in the air.
The air around us smelled like fried food, and my stomach growled ferociously.
He walked beside me, looking straight ahead. I couldn't help but stare at him from the side of my eyes.
"Yes?" He asked, his voice familiar, and yet, quite unfamiliar as he softly spoke.
"Nothing," I said, pretending not have been staring at him.
Just as quickly as I looked away from him, the toe of my heel got caught on the sidewalk, sending me flying forward. Luckily, I didn't fall on my face- but I did break the fall with a sharp scrape to the knee.
I winced in- albeit dramatic- agony.
"Oh God, are you alright!?" Concern scribbled all over Kihyun's face.
Still on the ground, I lifted my knee up to examine it. Blood was oozing out of it, but I it wasn't bad enough to warrant any immediate action.
"Come on, let's go find some bandaids or something-" He said, reaching out his hand to help me.
I rolled my eyes, "I'm fine, it'll dry," I said, thinking back to my days as a child, when I'd play tag just a little too intensely and I'd tumble over my own feet.
I reached my hand to meet his, and when it finally did, my stomach was sent flipping. As I finally got to my feet, I ended up so close to him that I could smell the beers on his breath, and the subtle yet musky cologne blowing off if him.
"Thank you..." I said, my eyes fixed on his lips.
His eyes did the same, but a second later, he was back to clearing his throat, "We should get you home..." He said, his voice low.
I looked up at him, "Yeah, maybe we should..."
I shook the thoughts out of my head as I pulled the pants all the way up, choosing to ignore the slight ache from the thick fabric running against my wound. I grabbed my bag and the papers I needed to work on, and then headed out the door.
A/N: I swear I didn’t purposely imagine her looking like this… but In case you’re wondering what Karina looks like XD
𝕄𝕒𝕜𝕖 𝕚𝕥 𝕎𝕠𝕣𝕜 (Ch.6: The Storm.)
A/N: This was a fic I’d originally posted on Wattpad last year. Hope you guys enjoy!
Description: Working for Mr.Yoo Kihyun was an absolute nightmare; Y/N hated everything about him, and was convinced he was either part demon or at least some sort of reptilian hybrid- never in a million years would she have expected to learn that he was, indeed only human, and even worse; that he might even be…likeable?
I watched Lizzie and Karina through the mirror hanging in the living rom. They poured themselves a shot of tequila, their faces scrunching as they swallowed.
"You sure you don't want a shot before we go?" Lizzie asked me.
Karina scoffed, "No! You know Y/N's a lightweight- remember the last time she pregamed?"
Lizzie laughed, nodding her head, "Oh yeah- she puked in the Uber."
I tried my hardest not to roll my eyes at them as I applied a little more highlight to my nose and cheekbones. Though I didn't normally get this dressed up for karaoke, but I was ready to party my life away- especially since I knew I'd be spending the weekend working on the stupid contract and building permit documents.
"I'm not a lightweight," I backed away from the mirror and walked over to the counter.
"Oh please. We all know you can't hang-" Karina started.
"And there's nothing wrong with that," Lizzie added, trying not to make me feel lame.
I bit my lip for a moment, and then I grabbed the tequila and poured myself a shot.
"Y/N...think about what you're doing..." Karina said, an eyebrow arched as she stared at me, a menacing smile on her face.
I raised the shot to my mouth, taking a minute to brace myself.
"It's the weekend!" I shouted, shutting my eyes, throwing my head back and taking the shot.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our Uber pulled up to the karaoke place and we hopped out of the car. Our heels clicked in unison on the pavement, and we checked each other's outfit to make sure nothing was out of place.
We walked into the bar and were immediately greeted by the bar tender, Wonho.
"Hey girls," He called out as he poured a shot for a pretty blond girl who was practically drooling over him.
Karina smiled at him, pushing her chest out ever so slightly, "Hey Wonho."
Lizzie and I laughed as we all walked up to the bar.
Karina leaned forward onto the bar, making sure her cleavage was on full display, "Wonho- could you please make us a round of iced teas?" She asked, her voice low and sultry.
Wonho blushed, "Karina, you gotta stop. I'm at work," He laughed.
Lizzie rolled her eyes, "Let's go get the table," she said, pulling me away from Karina and Wonho.
She and I sat down, "She's unbelievable," I laughed.
Lizzie rolled her eyes, "Right? She sleeps with the guy once and now they're just like..." she throws her hands up in mock exasperation, "whatever that is."
Karina walked over and sat down, a smirk on her face as Wonho followed behind her, holding a tray with our drinks.
He set them down and bowed, "M'ladies," He said. He then turned over to Karina and grabbed her hand, "My queen," He kisses it and then turns back to the bar.
Lizzie and I cannot contain our laughter and we bust out as soon as he's out of earshot.
"What?" Karina asks, an innocent look on her face as she grabs one of the iced teas and sips it.
"Yeah, what," I say with a smirk on my face.
Lizzie looks around the room and leans forward, "Is it just me, or are there like, a lot of girls today?"
I look around as well and nod, "Way more than last week," I said.
Karina makes a disgusted face, "Ugh, I know," She says, glancing at the bar where Wonho is laughing flirtatiously with a particularly...plump backside.
I laughed, "Of course, Wonho is working tonight..."
Karina glares at me and continues sipping her drink.
"Anyway, how are you feeling?" Lizzie asked.
I thought for a moment, "I don't know...I keep thinking I should quit, but then I think about how close I am, you know? I don't want to lose such a great opportunity because of some jerk," I say, thinking about Kihyun sitting in his massive chair, eyes on his phone.
"Oh, I was talking about the shot you took earlier," Lizzie clarified.
"Oh," I said, mildly embarrassed, "I'm fine," I said, taking a sip of my drink.
I was surprisingly calm and couldn't really feel the shot. It had relaxed me, but I felt nothing beyond that.
"It's the calm before the storm," Karina looked at me, shaking her head in disapproval.
I rolled my eyes, "I'll be fine."
A woman walked up onto the platform, a big smile on her face as she grabbed the mic off of the stand.
"Hello, ladies and....gentlemen?" She said, squinting her eyes into the sea of women at the tables, "How's your guys' night going?"
The crowd cheered and clapped, as did we.
"Alright, so my name is Soon-ae. We have quite a few performers tonight but there are still some slots open! Remember to sign up over by the bar if you'd like to sing tonight or tomorrow," She ran through her intro quickly, "Alright, whose ready to hear some awesome singing!?" She called out.
Again, there was a huge cheer and she stepped off the platform.
The first performer walked up, and Karina rolled her eyes. It was the girl who was flirting with Wonho only minutes before. She was clearly tipsy, and her words were slurred as she introduced herself and the song.
The crowd clapped, but Karina put her hands to her mouth to amplify whatever she was about to yell out.
"Boo!" She yelled.
Thankfully, no one heard her. I laughed and nudged her, "Karina! Chill."
"No, she was flirting with my man," Karina huffed.
"She wasn't the only one," Lizzie said, pointing at the bar where a line of women had their boobs on the bar, much like Karina had them when she ordered their drinks.
Karina sunk in her chair and crossed her arms.
I shook my head and we focused our attention to her singing.
By the end of her performance, the shot had kicked in and I was feeling  ~*~*great~*~.
I clapped and cheered for her as she handed the mic back too the MC, "WOO!!!"
Lizzie and Karina looked at each other and rolled their eyes.
"The storm..." Karina said as she narrowed her eyes at me.
"What? I feel perfectly fine," I shrugged.
"Alright, our next performer is," She looked down at her clip board and then back up at the crowd, "Kirange!"
My heart dropped.
She stepped aside and Kihyun walked up to the platform. He was dressed a little nicer than before, wearing a white blazer, white shirt, and black skinny jeans.
"Wait..isn't that..?" Karina trailed off.  She and Lizzie turned to read my expression.
I was motionless.
"Hello ladies," He smiled, his eyes low.
The women cheered much harder for him than they had for the drunk girl.
"I'd like to do a little something different, tonight," he said, a sly smile on his face as he walked off for a moment to pull a seat up onto the platform, "Ms.Soon-ae," He called out to her.
"Yes?" She asked, a smile spreading across her face.
"Now, I've prepared a song and choreography, but Would you do me the honor of choosing a lady to come sit in this chair..." He ran his hand through his chocolate brown hair, "I wanna sing to her..." He said with a wink.
"He's smooth, isn't he?" Lizzie asked, wincing as she said it.
The ladies went wild as Soon-ae's eyes scanned the crowd.
"We can go if you want," Karina said, looking at me apologetically.
Just then, Soon-ae's eyes seemed to land on our table.
"You," She pointed.
Karina and Lizzie looked at me, shock on their faces.
I looked behind me to see who she was pointing to, and then my heart started racing in my chest at the realization that she was pointing at me.
"Me?" I asked, eyes widening.
Soon-ae nodded, "Come on, lucky girl," She said.
I stood up and the crowd continued to cheer.
Kihyun squinted in my direction, trying to see who had just been picked. It wasn't until  was all the way on the platform that his expression fell.
I felt like a deer in the headlights as I walked over to the chair and sat down.
"Alright, you got your girl- now sing!" A girl called out from the audience.
Kihyun paused for a moment, and then cleared his throat, "Yeah, alright...thanks Soon-ae," He said.
I looked up at him, still unable to fully process the situation I was in.
"J-just sit back and relax..." He said, not wanting to fully make eye contact. He walked a few paces away from where I was sitting, and waited for the music to start.
I stayed stiff, not wanting to let my guard down.
A piano sounded around us, and he walked slowly toward me, picking up his feet ever so slightly.
"Jebal meomchurago Meomchura haessjanha Wae ireohge gojibeul buryeo Miryeonhage..." As he got closer, he reached his hand out and he gently touched my cheek.
I swallowed hard, my heart jumping in my chest at his touch.
Once more, I looked up at him, this time, wanting him to look at me...and he was.
His eyes were fixed on me as he sang, moving around me to the music.
He gently grabbed my face, and then turned it toward himself, dipping low- his face was so close to mine, and it reminded me of the other day when he'd opened his office door as I stood right outside of it.
And in this moment, I had the same feeling in my chest that I'd had that day.
He pretended as thought he as coming in for a kiss, and my mind raced as I tried to figure out what my next action would be- but as quickly as he came in, he pulled away, causing the audience to cheer even louder than they had before.
"Ireohge gipeojil jul moreugo Ireohge johajil jul moreugo Magu kiun nae mam cham mosdwaessda..."
As he finished singing, he got on one knee and grabbed my hand, "Naega michyeossnabwa..." He raised my hand to his lips, and he kissed it, the music fading.
The crowd, including Karina and Lizzie, were screaming their heads off.
He stood up, and offered his hand out to help me up, but  ignored him and quickly made my way off of the stage and went back to the table.
Soon-ae grabbed the mic from Kihyun and pretended to fan herself, "Wow! That was quite the performance- let's give it up for Kirange!"
Kihyun walked off the stage, and I refused to look ini his direction... but I felt his eyes on me.
"Well, that was...uhm..." Lizzie trailed off.
Karina looked at me with concern, but  kept my head down.
What just happened...?

I tossed and turned all night. How could I focus on sleeping when I just singlehandedly embarrassed myself like this? I couldn't even bring myself to reply to Kihyun's message.
The sun streamed in through my partially open curtains and went across my face. I never wanted to get out of bed, but today was especially difficult. My alarm sounded,  but instead of turning it off, I just let it ring.
"What is my life..." I whispered, turning over in my bed.
Finally, I became annoyed with the high-pitched ring, and I decided to shut the alarm off and get out of bed. I stretched, and immediately felt the tension in my body. I let my arms hang limp at my sides as I walked over to my bathroom, lightly kicking the door open.
I got dressed quite slowly- much slower than I normally would. I made minimal effort to look nice- I looked just presentable enough to pass as an office worker. As I got to the door, my phone started ringing in my purse. I pulled it out to see Lizzie's name on the screen.
"Hello?" I held my phone between my cheek and my shoulder as I locked the door behind me.
"Just remember- it's not a big deal. Just tell him you thought the cupcake was pretty so you wanted to take a picture," She reassured me.
I shook my head, though she couldn't see me, "He'll know I'm lying. He always knows," I said.
"He will not- You act like he's your father or something," I could imagine her rolling her eyes as she spoke.
"Correction- my father is less scary than Kihyun," I said, stroking my forehead with worry.
I hopped in my Uber and headed to the office. On days when I couldn't wait to get to the coffee bar and see Shownu, the rides to the office seemed dreadfully long, but of course, the one time I could use a million-hour car ride is the day that traffic seems the lightest it's been in months. When we pulled up, I almost dragged my feet across the sidewalk.
I opened the doors to the building and kept my head low as I walked in. I spotted Shownu across the lobby and I slowly walked over to him. Usually, my heart would be fluttering in my chest at the sight of him, but all I felt was a sinking feeling in my chest from the fact that I would have to face Kihyun.
Before I could get to the counter, Tiffany beat me to my spot. I could only see the back of her, but judging from her tone of voice that she was probably smiling- maybe even blushing as she ordered her latte with extra foam.
The only thing keeping me from finding her completely annoying, was the fact that i was avoiding having to go up to the top floor for as long as possible. Today, I welcomed the interruption in my schedule.
As Tiffany chatted Shownu up (of course, he was much too polite to tell her to shut up so the next person could order, but I sure wasn't gonna interrupt her either), I heard a familiar clearing of the throat behind me.
My eyes slowly closed as I braced myself for Kihyun's death stare. I slowly turned around, and of course, there was Kihyun.
"I need to speak with you."
His expression was cold and intense.
"I-" I began before being interrupted by Shownu's deep voice.
"Y/N," He said with a smile, "You're up."
I looked at Kihyun and pointed at Shownu, "I gotta- excuse me," I said, walking up to the counter.
"No mug?" Shownu asked.
I smiled exaggeratedly, "Not today- can I get a large?" I asked.
"Do you even need to ask? I know your order by heart," He chuckled as he revealed a large coffee from behind the pastry display.
My heart fluttered a little bit, but it was interrupted by Kihyun's harsh voice, "Y/N."
It startled me, but I tried to play it off, "Thank you, Shownu," said, sliding the money over to him.
He looked down at the money, and then looked at me. Without a word, he took the money and set it off to the side, "Come again," He said, his smile fading slightly.
I grabbed my coffee and then turned back to face Kihyun.
"Let's go up to my office," He said, immediately turning to walk toward the elevator.
I trailed behind him, like a horse to the slaughter.
The elevator ride was silent, making it seem much longer than usual. He didn't even pull out his phone the way he usually would- he just stared straight ahead. His expression, however, did seem to soften a little bit.
He lead me into his office and he sat down in his seat. I closed the door slowly behind me, and I sat down in the seat directly in front of his desk.
"You...wanted to speak to me?" I asked.
He didn't answer me for a while. It looked like he was in his thoughts, so I didn't speak again.
"Y/N, I consider myself a very professional man. I do my best to not get too close to my employees- not just for my own sake, but to avoid making my workers feel uncomfortable. Do you understand?" He asked, his tone was much softer than it usually was.
I stared at him for a moment before nodding.
"I don't know if maybe you misread my kindness yesterday, and if you did, I sincerely apologize," He continued, "but I meant nothing by my gesture yesterday. I was going to get myself food, and I knew staying late meant you'd miss dinner," His eyes seemed to search mine.
"Damn it, Y/N, are you even listening?" He asked, irritated at my silence.
My heart started beating faster as I felt the familiar feeling of wanting to run away.
"I..." My voice was quiet, "I just thought the cupcake was pretty, and I meant to send it to someone else..." I said.
His eyes were fixed on me for a moment, "Hm, is that so?" He asked incredulously.
I nodded, "Yes."
He sighed, "Well, as long as that's the truth," He saiid sarcastically.
I looked down for a moment, "It is," I said as I stood up, "was that all?" I asked.
He didn't look at, or answer me. I took it as my cue to leave.
When I walked out of the office, I slowly made my way to my desk.
The rest of the day went by quickly, and soon, everyone was packing up. I wondered what it would be like staying late today. After the last people headed into the elevators, I turned my attention back to my screen and proceeded to look over the draft of the contract that Mr.Lee's father was going to sign.
Kihyun's door opened and he held an open file in his hands as he walked out. He glanced over at me and stopped in his tracks, "You may go home," He said, looking back down at the file.
I was confused, "But...don't you need me to stay to look over the-"
"Go home," He said walking over to a filing cabinet at the far end of the room.
My blood was boiling,  but I held my tongue and grabbed my things. Without realizing it, i was stomping to the elevator doors.
I got to the lobby and started walking toward the door, until I heard my name being called.
"Y/N! Y/N!"  I turned to see Shownu jogging toward me.
"Shownu?" I was surprised at his eagerness to reach me.
"Here," He said, reaching out his hand.
I reached mine out to see what he was trying too give me, and when he finally dropped it in my hand, I shook my head, "Wait, why are you giving this back to me?" I asked.
He smiled, "I could tell you were having a rough morning... here's my effort to make it better?" He said.
I smiled, "You can't just keep paying for my coffee," I laughed.
He smiled and shrugged, "Says who?" He asked.
I looked down, my face turning hot, "Well, thanks Shownu..." I said shyly.
He smiled and then, to my surprise, reached up to graze my cheek with his finger, "Don't worry about it," and with that, he turned around to walk back to the counter.
Though my day was absolutely terrible, at this moment, I felt like I was on a cloud.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
By Friday morning, I'd managed to finish everything up for the building permits. I was quite proud of myself. I put everything in order and knocked on Kihyun's office door.
"Mr.Yoo?" I called through the door.
"Come in," He said.
I walked into the office and walked to his desk, setting the stack of papers on his desk, "I'm done."
He glanced at the stack, "Alright."
I stood there, waiting for a 'thank you', but after realizing I wouldn't be getting one, I walked out of his office.
It's the weekend. It's the weekend. It's the weekend.
By the time 6:30 rolled around, I was already packed and ready to go home. As I stood up from my desk, Kihyun came out of his office and cleared his throat, "Y/N."
I held onto the strap of my purse as I waited for him to speak.
"I found some mistakes in the contract. I thought you had made a draft beforehand," he said, crossing his arms. Though he wasn't buff, the way he stood made his muscles bulge a bit through his dress shirt.
"Mistakes? I made sure there weren't any- I revised it like six time," I explained.
He sighed, "You'll need to fix the mistakes before Tuesday. Take the weekend," He said,  putting the stack of contract information on my desk, and turning back to walk into his office.
I snatched the papers off of my desk and shoved them aggressively into my bag.
When I got to the lobby, I was so mad that I flew past the lobby and headed out to my Uber, all without a single glance back.
I was ready to get wasted.
I sat at my desk, my face buried in my work as I tried to figure Kihyun's (and my) itinerary for our business trip to Korea. He had so many meetings that I needed to be in with him, that I could barely fit in any down time for myself.
My desk phone started to ring and I saw that it was coming from Kihyun. I sighed and bit my lip before I picked up the call.
"Yes, Mr.Yoo?" I asked.
"Y/N, I'm gonna need you to stay late tonight. I need you to figure out the building permits so that we'll have them in time for Tuesday morning when we leave," He said.
I shut my eyes tightly, trying to control my tone, "Are you sure you need me to stay late? I'd be happy to come in early for the rest of the week-"
"I want them done as soon as possible, so I need you to stay tonight and possibly come early as well," Though I couldn't see him, I was almost sure he was only half-paying attention to the conversation, as he was probably going through his schedule.
"Mr.Yoo, I think I'd really just prefer to come early-" I started feeling exasperated.
"And I'd prefer for you to do as I ask," He said, his tone steady but firm.
I looked down, defeated, "Yes, I'm sorry Mr.Yoo... I'll stay," I said.
Without another word, he hung up the phone.
I put my phone on the receiver and propped my elbows onto my desk, letting my face fall forward into my hands. My blood boiled, but the mental exhaustion that I felt was too great to dwell on it for too long.
Believe it or not, it was my dream to work at Yoo Industries, from the time I was in high school. My father worked here in the marketing department when it was owned by Kihyun's grandfather. I wanted to work in marketing myself, but no positions were open. Desperate to just find a job, I accepted the first one I saw; the position of a personal assistant to the CEO. I thought it would be a sure-fire way to secure a career in the company, but it seemed like I was at a complete standstill.
And yet, I still have hope...
When people started packing up to leave, I stared longingly at the elevator, wishing I could be one of them... thought it was quite a peaceful experience to be the only one in the office. Then again, a big con was having to stay late with Kihyun.
I was already feeling tired, though it was only about half an hour later than when I would normally leave. I yawned and stretched out in my seat. "I need coffee...I wonder if they're still open," I said.
I grabbed my mug and took the elevator to the lobby. Sure enough, Shownu stood at the counter, though it looked like he was getting ready to close up. I sprinted as quickly as I could in my heels.
"Oh wait!" I called out, causing Shownu to look up.
He smiled at me as I stood at the counter trying to catch my breath.
"Are you still open?" I asked between breaths.
"Well..." He looked around, a thoughtful look on his face, "Not usually, but I can make an exception," he said with a sweet smile, causing my stomach to turn to knots.
"You sure? I don't want to get you in trouble," I said, concerned.
"Don't worry about it," He gently grabbed the mug from my hand, "Besides, it's the least I can do for our prettiest customer..." He said, his sweet smile turning too a smirk.
I blushed uncontrollably and looked down. Suddenly, I as feeling wide awake.
He filled my cup and then handed it to me, "Thank you," I said with a smile.
I reached into my wallet for the money to pay for the coffee, but he put his hand up and waved me away, "This one's on me..." he said, making direct eye contact with me.
I didn't know how to react- I mean, I wanted to jump across the counter and have him right then and there- but I managed to nod.
"Wow... what a gentleman," I said, trying my best to sound flirty but not too eager.
"Thanks Shownu," I said before turning around and walking into the elevator.
This time, when I turned around, I saw only Shownu, who was still watching me as the doors closed.
My face was still burning when I got up my floor. Kihyun was sitting leaning on the front of my desk, his face glued to his phone. My heart dropped as I waited for him to notice the coffee in my hand and start yelling at me. I walked over to my desk- and him- with my head down and I put my coffee next to me.
"Did you need something, Mr.Yoo?" I asked.
He seemed to not have heard me, so I sat down and waited for whatever he as gonna say. I sipped my coffee, and I could practically feel my eyes dilating when the caffeine kicked in. Now, I was ready to work.
"You ever feel stuck?" His voice cuts through the silence as he looks up at the empty office, catching me off guard.
I was unsure of how to answer him, not only because of how random the question is, but because of how personal it seemed.
"I'm not sure what you mean, sir..." I said, choosing not to answer.
He stood up and fixed his blazer, keeping his back to me.
"Nothing. Where were you?" He asked, finally turning around.
He spotted the coffee cup next to me on the desk and  sighed, "Never mind," he said.
He was usually quite rushed and energetic, but in that moment he looked as exhausted as I felt. He went back to his office without saying anything else. II hadn't realized that I'd been holding my breath, but once he'd closed the door behind him, I was finally able to exhale.
Do you ever feel stuck? His words rang in my head.
"The answer is...yes," I said, more to myself than to him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was 8:30pm, and I'd spent the entire evening doing the necessary research for the permits we needed in order to build the offices in South Korea. I hadn't seen Kihyun since the moment he'd had at my desk, and I was wondering how he was doing.
Kihyun walked out of his office without a word, got in the elevator. Surprisingly, he kept his head down the entire time. That was quite unusual for him.
My phone buzzed on my desk next to me, and Karina's name popped up on the screen. I picked it up and opened the message. Of course, in true Karina-fashion, she sent me a gif  of an old lady twerking.
Karina: Karaoke bar again this Friday?
I bit my lip, unsure of her plan. My phnoe buzzed again.
Karina: Come on, Lizzie was so mad we went without her last time. She said she'll buy the first round ;)
I rolled my eye and replied to her message.
Me: Idk... I've got a bad feeling about it
Karina: Well don't. Your boss ain't gonna go to karaoke two weekends in a row. Normal ppl don't do that.
I chuckled and rolled my eyes, relaxing a bit.
Me: Normal ppl don't do that? Geez. What does that make us? Alright alright, we'll go. But if we see him, we're LEAVING.
Karina: Deal.
I sighed and put my phone back down. Just then, the elevator doors opened and Kihyun walked out holding two brown paper bags, one in each hand. They had the logo from the All-Night cafe, which was a few blocks away. My stomach growled, and I was glad he was still too far away to have heard it.
I looked down and pretended to be doing my work.
"Here," He said, placing one of the bags on my desk.
"Oh, did you need me to check it?" I asked, confused.
He shook his head, "No, it's for you."
"Oh no, Mr.Yoo, I'm not hungry, really-"
"I got it for you. You haven't eaten since lunch. Just eat it," He said, making his way to the entrance of his office.
I didn't know how to react- he'd never done something like this before.
He grabbed the handle to the door, but took a moment to glance at me, "and I heard your stomach growling... you're not a very good liar," He said with an eye roll.
I blushed, embarrassed.
He walked into his office, leaving me with the delicious aroma of whatever was in the bag. I reached into the bag and pulled out small cardboard box and a black container of fettuccine alfredo and broccoli. My mouth watered instantly at the sight of the pasta.
My favorite!
I put the container aside for a moment to see what was inside the little box. I opened it and was surprised to see a little pink cupcake with a small, edible pearl in the center of the frosting. I almost couldn't believe my eyes, and I glanced at his door in confusion.I grabbed my phone and look for Kihyun's contact.
Me: Thank you for the food, Mr.Yoo.
I then took a picture of the cupcake, deciding I had to document this uncharacteristically kind gesture- also, the cupcake was pretty.
My phone buzzed in my hand, and Kihyun's name popped up on the screen.
Kihyun: Don't worry about it.
I sighed and put my phone down. My stomach was growling even louder than before, soo I reached for the container of food and dug in.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"He did what!?" Karina and Lizzie exclaimed in unison.
Even through Facetime, they were far too loud for me.
"He bought me dinner...kind of. I mean, we were staying late because we were working on getting the building permits done," I explained.
"That sounds so romantic!" Karina squealed.
I rolled my eyes, "No, no, no. It was business. We weren't even in the same room for most of the time," I said.
"Well, what'd he get you?" Lizzie asked.
"Fettuccine and a cupcake?" I said, unsure of what that had anything to do with.
"Girl! He got you pasta???" Karina asked.
"And a cupcake, don't forget the cupcake," Lizzie added.
I was getting annoyed, "So what?"
"SO, pasta is like, a sexy meal, you know?" Karina said with a serious expression on her face, as was Lizzie's.
"Pasta is a sexy meal," I mocked Karina, "Do you people realize how ridiculous that sounds?"
"What about the cupcake? Was it like, Safeway brand?" Lizzie asked.
I shook my head, "No, it was from the All Night Cafe. You know that super hipster place we went to for Lizzie's birthday two years ago?" I said.
They squealed once more.
"Am I talking to twenty-five year olds, or teenagers?" I asked, irritatedly.
They laughed at my expense.
"Wait..." I said, remembering the picture I took of the cupcake, "I took a picture of the cupcake."
"Send it to me!" Karina exclaimed.
I chuckled, "Fine. But after I send it, let's move on from this subject," I said.
I went to my gallery and grabbed and selected the picture of the cupcake and then sent it.
"Let me know when you get it," I said.
"Kay," Karina said.
A moment or two went by and I picked my phone up again, "Did you get it?" I asked.
Karina and Lizzie shook their heads, "Nope. Maybe you have to hang up- sometimes the messages won't send when you're on Face time," Lizzie said.
I nodded, "Okay, I'll hang up. Let me know when you get it," I said, pressing the End button on the screen.
I went to my messages and pressed on Karina's name, but I didn't see the message.
Hm...that's weird.
Suddenly, Kihyun's name popped up on my phone.
What the..? He never texts me after hours.
I pulled his name down on the screen, revealing the message.
Kihyun: ???
I was confused, so I opened up the entire conversation.
"Crap!" I squealed.
On the thread between Kihyun and I, was the picture of the pink cupcake he'd bought me.
𝕄𝕒𝕜𝕖 𝕚𝕥 𝕎𝕠𝕣𝕜 (Ch.3: Lunch Time.)
A/N: This was a fic I’d originally posted on Wattpad last year. Hope you guys enjoy!
Description: Working for Mr.Yoo Kihyun was an absolute nightmare; Y/N hated everything about him, and was convinced he was either part demon or at least some sort of reptilian hybrid- never in a million years would she have expected to learn that he was, indeed only human, and even worse; that he might even be…likeable?
The weekend came and went- too quickly, unfortunately, and Monday seemed to materialize out of thin air.
"Ugh..." I groaned as my alarm went off.
After five minutes of 'Maybe I should just become a stripper', I finally sat up on the edge of my bed and glared at my dresser, knowing full well that I'd spend the next forty-five minutes agonizing over what clothes to wear.
I chose my outfit- black pants, a black blouse, and a gray blazer with a grid design on it. I didn't get dressed right away though, trying to avoid getting it dirty while I diid my makeup or ate.
I got ready in the bathroom, and then got dressed.
On the ride over to work, I wondered how I would act when I saw Kihyun. Would I be able to look him in the eye?
Hell, I can't even do that now...
As I pulled up the building, I stepped out of the car and thanked the driver before grabbing my purse.
I made sure not a hair was out of place and I licked my lips, preparing myself in case I saw Shownu. I walked into the building and quickly spotted Shownu at the bar. I hid my excitement as I walked over.
"Good morning," He said with a smile.
Once again, I was reduced to a ball of nerves as soon as he spoke.
"H-hey..uhm, I don't have my coffee cup today," I said, "Can you just give me a large black coffee?" I asked.
He nodded and pulled a reusable cup out from a stack, "Name?" He asked.
I stared at him, unsure of what he was asking, "I'm sorry?" I asked.
"Your name? I need it for the order," he said with a polite smile.
"Oh- yeah, it's Y/N," I said.
He nodded and wrote it on the cup, "$2.50 please, Y/N" He said, the politeness turning into slyness. I blushed at the sound of my name coming from his beautiful, thick, pink lips.
I handed him the money and then stepped to the side when I realized there was another woman behind me. She walked up, and immediately there was a familiarity in the way she was behaving toward him. She twirled her hair, smiled a lot, and even popped her leg up when he'd ask her a question about her order. I rolled my eyes.
Look at her, throwing herself at him. How embarrassing.
"Oh God..." I said, realizing I sounded like Kihyun.
"Name?" He asked her.
"TIffany," She said, much more boldly than when I'd said my name.
He gave a small, polite smile, "That'll be $4.00, ma'am," He said.
Hm...he didn't act the same with her as he had with me...
My heart fluttered at the realization, but I quickly shoved that thought out of my mind, choosing not to read too much into things.
Tiffany stood off to the side where I was, thought she kept her distance.
"Y/N, your coffee's ready..." Shownu said, holding my cup out for me to take.
I smiled and reached out. As I grabbed the cup from his hand, my fingers accidentally brushed his.
"Oh, sorry," I said, almost positive that he could see how red I was in that moment.
He chuckled, "It's alright..." He said as he looked down, seemingly just as flushed in the face as I was.
It seemed like he was into it, but I decided not to linger, "Have a nice day," I said before turning to walk toward the elevator.
"You too...Y/N," He said, repeating my name once more.
I smiled, not turning around until I was in the elevator- and once I did, I immediately regretted it because of course, who else would walk in to the elevator but Kihyun?
I straightened up, "Good morning, Mr.Yoo," I said, looking straight ahead.
Flashes of Friday night came into my mind, and I tried my best to ignore them. He had walked in staring at his phone, and stayed that way even as I spoke to him.
"You've got your coffee. I don't want to see you down here again until your lunch," He said.
Uhm, excuse you? Are you someone's dad around here? Who the hell do you think you are? I'm so sick of you ordering me around and treating me like trash. You don't want to see me down here? How about, I never want to see you outside of this hellhole again. You idiot douche bag jerk.
"Yes, Mr.Yoo," I said.
The doors opened up on our floor and he walked out first, headed straight for his office. II practically dragged my feet behind him. When I got to my desk, I dropped my bag onto the floor and plopped onto my chair. I took a gulp of my coffee and started up my computer.
I had tons of emails and a few missed calls- of course, all regarding his royal highness.
I spent the majority of the morning planning meetings and forming Kihyun's schedule for the next two weeks. I wanted to get it all done at once, so once I finished my work- and my coffee- it was time for a trip to the ladies' room.
I chose a stall and sat down.
A brief moment later, someone walked into the bathroom shortly after me.
"-But is he like, relationship material? Or just a good night?" The voice of a woman asked.
"Look, I'm not saying I'd marry the guy-" A second voice answered. Her voice was familiar, "I mean, it's not like you make a whole lot working at a coffee bar, but... come on, you've seen him!"
I rolled my eyes.
Tiffany.
"Of course, he's no CEO, but, he'll do...for now," Tiffany said.
As if seeing her flirt with Shownu wasn't enough, I have to hear her demean him privately?
"For now?" The other woman asked, "What do you mean?"
There was a pause, "Well... guys like Shownu, see...they're good enough to look at...maybe even good enough to eat," Tiffany said, causing the other woman to laugh, "but I have standards. I really want Mr.Yoo," She said.
"Mr.Yoo?"
"Yup. I know what I want," Tiffany said, "And he can buy it".
Soon, I heard their footsteps go back out the door.
Unbelievable.
I walked out of the bathroom and went back to my desk. I scanned the room, and sure enough, Tiffany was all the way across the room.
She's only been here a few weeks and she thinks it'll be that easy?
Good luck.
"Y/N," Kihyun's voice tore through my thoughts, "Come in," He said, holding the door open for me this time.
I was surprised, but was obviously not going to point out the small detail.
Wait...why'd he hold the door open this time?
Why is he inviting me into his office? He doesn't have a meeting until tomorrow...
Does he know I saw him at karaoke the other night?!
"Y/N?" Kihyun narrowed his eyes at me, "are you okay?" He asked.
I swallowed, "Yes...?" I said.
"You seem unsure," he said, sitting back in his massive chair.
I cleared my throat, "Sorry, yes. I'm alright, just didn't...sleep very well," I lied.
He waved dismissively at her, "You're lying but let's move on," He said.
Her heart dropped a little, nervous for the next part of the conversation.
"I need you to clear my schedule for next week," He said.
"You...want me to clear all your meetings and calls?" I asked.
He nodded, looking down at a document on his desk.
"So, the whole schedule I just finished making?" I asked, irritatedly.
He looked at me from the top his glasses, "Excuse me?" he said.
You're right. Excuse you.
"Nothing...I'll get right to it, then..." I said, standing up.
"I'm not finished," He said, though he wouldn't finish until I was sitting down.
I sat down, trying with all my might not to jump across the desk and choke him out.
"I'm going on a trip to South Korea, and I would like for you to go with me," He said.
"Me?" I asked.
He rolled his eyes, "Calm down, it isn't some luxurious vacation. I just need you to help me out there. Your meals and sleeping arrangements would be covered. That is, if you're interested in coming," He said. I took a moment to think about it.
A trip to South Korea... on business?
An all-expenses paid business trip...with Kihyun.
"Alright, I'll go," I said.
He nodded, "Alright. We leave Monday. You may go."
I stood up from my seat and walked over to the door.
I hesitated to open it.
Something inside me was rising...
I turned ever so slightly, "Mr.Yoo?" I asked.
"Mm?" He grunted, not looking up from the document.
"There's this Korean song...Hyeya. Ever heard it?"
He didn't look up, but I could see that his eyes were no longer focused on the paper.
"Never heard it before," He said.
I smiled, "Oh... okay. II'm gonna take my lunch now," I said, walking out of his office and closing the door.
I smiled to myself, grabbing my wallet as I headed off to find some food.
"He is such a flirt!" Karina squealed.
I laughed and took a sip of my iced tea.
"Wait, so he's rich, sweet, and he's most definitely interested- what's the problem?" She asked, referring to Minhyuk.
I looked down, still smiling as I stirred my drink with my straw.
"I just...I don't want to be that kind of girl, you know?" I said, taking another sip as I looked around at the other tables.
Karina scoffed, "You mean the kind that gets to ride in expensive cars and gets taken out to fancy dinners at pretentious restaurants?"
I rolled my eyes, "I mean the kind of girl that just uses men for their resources," I said.
Karina sighed, "Then I need to go make friends with those kinds of girls because I'm ready to be rich by association," she said.
I laughed and playfully nudged her leg with my foot, "Shut up."
A short, heavyset man stepped onto the platform in front of our table and took the mic off of the stand, "Ladies and gentlemen, we have a performer who goes by the name of... Kirange?"
I looked over at Karina, "Oh boy... I can't wait to see what poor fool makes an idiot of himself," I said as I took a long drink of my iced tea. I was starting to feel the alcohol.
After a moment, a different man walked onto the platform, mic in hand. The crowd cheered, and you could hear a few whistles and catcalls from the women in the audience.
He was wearing an oversized black t-shirt, and black jeans. You could tell he had been sweating, since the front of his hair was wet-looking and a little matted. The lights were bright and took some adjusting to, but once my eyes finally focused, the guy looked familiar...
"Oh my God..." I said.
Karina looked over at me, "He's hot, right?" she said, clapping her hands and cheering along with the rest of the women.
"Hello, everyone. I wouldn't normally do this but I lost a bet and now, here we are," The guy said with a sigh. His speech was slurred ever so slightly.
A table full of guys at the other end of the platform cheered loudly, some of them were laughing hysterically, others were holding their index finger and thumb together to form little hearts.
"Thank you for that, guys...alright, I'm gonna be singing 'Hyeya', by a Korean singer named Jonghyun." He said.
As I was about to tell Karina that we needed to leave, a soft piano melody started playing, and he was holding the mic up to his mouth. If I got up now, he'd see me for sure.
I stayed put in my seat, but II lowered my head a bit to hide my face as much as I could.
"Hyeya mianhadan mareun marya..." His voice was soft, smooth, soothing...
What the hell?
I looked over at Karina, wh was in just as much of a trance as the rest of the women behind us.
My mouth hung open in awe. I couldn't believe my ears or my eyes.
His face was solemn, and yet, full of passion as he sang.
When he reached the end of the song, it was like a switch had flipped within him and he perked back up, a smile spreading across his face as he heard everyone clap and scream for an encore.
"Thank you," He bowed before walking off of the platform and to the group of guys from before.
They all playfully hit him on his arms and back, and one guy slung his arm around his shoulder.
I sat in complete shock, unable to make sense of the scene that had just unfolded.
Karina looked at me, and her smiling expression turned to concern, "Y/N, are you okay? You look like you've seen a ghost."
I slowly shook my head, "Not a ghost..."
Worse.
I just witnessed Kihyun sing drunken karaoke.
And if he sees me here...he'll make sure I never see the light of day again.
"We have to go," I say, downing the last of my iced tea and then grabbing my purse from the seat next to me.
Karina was confused, "Go? Why? We like, just got here," She said, though she also stood up with me.
"I'll explain outside," I said, rushing to get to the door.
Once we were outside, I exhaled in relief. Karina crossed her arms and looked at me, waiting for me to explain myself.
I glanced once more at the door, not fully trusting that we were fully out of the danger zone, but decided to just explain.
"Okay, Mr.Karaoke back there? That's my boss." I said.
It took a moment, but once Karina processed the information, her eyes widened in horror.
"That was him!?" She asked.
I nodded, suddenly feeling really buzzed.
"When you talked about Kihyun, I always imagined someone...different? That guy was so...so..." She struggled to finish her sentence, "Hot."
I rolled my eyes, "Yeah, well, I'm almost convinced he is the devil reincarnated," I said exaggeratedly.
"Well, why didn't you say anything when you realized it was him?" She asked.
I shook my head, "I couldn't risk him seeing me," I said exasperatedly, "He holds power. He literally holds it over my head every single day. If he finds out II saw him like this..." I say, not even wanting to think about how fired I'd be.
"What a jerk...," She said, shaking her head as she reached into her purse and took out a vape pen, "What a...handsome, beautiful-voice-having...jerk," She said with a laugh.
I glared at her, "It's not funny... he embarrassed me in front of Shownu today..." I said, looking down at my phone to track our Uber.
Karina took a drag of her vape and smiled, "You mean the 'sexy-back', hot, coffee guy?"
I smiled, "Yeah...him," I said.
"Big deal. It's not like you have the balls to talk to the guy anyway," she said with a shrug.
I glared at her once more, "Actually, I was literally in the middle of asking him out on a date when Kihyun rudely interrupted me," I said, snarling at the memory.
"Wait, you were asking him out?" She asked.
I nodded, shivering as we stood outside of the Karaoke bar. Our car drove up and we both got in on either side.
We buckled up and settled in.
"Well, if you ask me, Kihyun did you a favor," Karina said, taking her phone out.
I looked at her, a confused expression on my face, "How?" I asked, once again remembering Kihyun staring me down.
"It's embarrassing to ask the guy out," she said.
I scoffed, "What are we, ten? It's 2019, a woman should be able to ask a man out without it being a huge social taboo," I said.
Karina shrugged, "Hey, I don't make the rules."
The drive was only about fifteen minutes, and we were finally at my apartment.
Karina grabbed blankets out from my hall closet and settled on my couch- something that had become very routine was her sleeping over on the weekends, since we'd usually spend Friday nights getting wasted, either at the house or at trashy bars.
"Night," I said, tiredly walking over to my bedroom.
"Mm..." She grunted, seeming to already be half asleep.
I didn't even bother changing out of my clothes before falling into my bed. I simply kicked off my shoes and before I knew it, I drifted off into the deepest sleep I'd had all week.
I looked around at the buzzing office, carefully checking to make sure the coast was clear. I picked up my coffee mug, gulped down the last bit of black coffee at the bottom, and then rose up from my chair.  I walked over to the elevator and made my way down to the lobby.
He should've started his shift by now...
When the elevator doors opened back up, I peered out into the lobby. My heart started beating when I saw him. I bit my lip and smoothed out my skirt as best as I could with my mug in hand. I straightened my posture, and I took a deep breath before walking out of the elevator and going over to the coffee bar.
I was feeling quite bold that morning as I was imagining how I'd approach him, but the closer I got to the counter, the more confidence I lost. Finally, I was at the counter- far too late to turn back.
"Good morning, Miss..." said the guy at the counter, a small smile on his face, making me gulp.
"G-good morning, Shownu," I said, sounding far more confident than I expected.
That wasn't so bad... okay, good job.
Shownu looked at me expectantly and then chuckled, "Refill?" He asked.
I snapped out of my thoughts and laughed awkwardly, "Oh, yes please..." I said, handing him my mug.
He took it from my hand, and I watched as he walked over to the coffee machine behind him. He was slender but his back was muscular, which you could see through his fitted white t-shirt. His lightly tanned skin looked so delicious...
"Miss?"
Again, I was snapped out of my trance. My face was flushed with embarrassment.
Did he catch me staring?
"Oh sorry..." I said, trying not to make eye contact as I took my mug from him.
"Don't worry, we all have those mornings," He said with a smile.
I smiled back, but the smile faded as I tried to build the courage to finally ask him...
"Was there anything else you needed?" Shownu asked.
I cleared my throat.
Alright, this is it.
"Actually, yes. I was wondering if maybe you'd like to-" I started, but someone cleared their throat loudly, causing me to turn to see who it was.
My eyes widened.
"Oh, sir," I said, my heart beating even harder than when I'd seen Shownu.
Standing behind me was Kihyun .
"And where should you be right now?" He asked, slight irritation in his voice.
I swallowed hard, "I- I'm sorry, sir. I was just coming down for a refill on my coffee," I said, feeling smaller and smaller as the words came out of my mouth.
Kihyun nodded, "So, you've got it," He said, staring me down.
I nodded, "I'll go now..." I said, lowering my head and walking back toward the elevators.
When I'd gotten to my desk, I sat down and looked away from my computer screen, trying to concentrate on not crying from how incredibly embarrassed I was that Kihyun had spoken to me that way- at all, but especially in front of Shownu.
Once I was sure I was calm enough, I reached for my mug and put it to my lips, taking in the smell of the coffee. I took a sip, closing my eyes as I enjoyed the warmth, though it was short lived.
"Let me know when Mr.Lee gets here for our meeting," Kihyun said in a flat voice as he walked past my desk and into his office, closing the door behind himself. I put my mug down and sighed as I turned my attention to my computer screen to check the time of his meeting.
Fifteen minutes went by before Mr.Lee came out of the elevator and walked over to my desk, a smile on his face.
"Ms.Y/N, are you always this beautiful in the mornings?" He said sweetly, making me blush.
"Mr.Lee, it's always a pleasure-"
"Y/N, I told you to let me know when Mr.Lee arrived," Kihyun said, standing at the door to his office. He masked his annoyance with a smile, though Mr.Lee was the only one fooled.
"Oh, don't worry about it- I just got here," Mr.Lee said, walking over to Kihyun and patting him on the shoulder.
"Oh well in that case..." Kihyun said, the smile still plastered on his face as he glanced at me.
Kihyun motioned for Mr.Lee to go in to the office and Mr.Lee disappeared into the room.
"Come and take notes," Kihyun said.
I quickly picked up my notepad from my desk, along with a pen. When I looked up, I expected to see Kihyun waiting at the door,  but he had already walked into his office, letting the door close behind him.
I pursed my lips, feeling irritated.
He's such a jerk.
I took a deep breath and walked into the office. Kihyun and Mr.Lee were sitting in the two sleek, gray sofas across from each other. I walked in, careful to close the door behind me, and I sat at the far end of the couch where Kihyun was sitting.
Mr.Lee's eyes were glued to me, the corner of his mouth curled into a smile. "Kihyun, when was the last time you gave this angel a raise?" He asked.
I felt my face get hot, "Oh, Mr.Lee..."
Kihyun smiled fakely, "Minhyuk, shouldn't you wait to close our agreement before you start trying to seduce my personal assistant?" He said slyly.
Mr.Lee laughed, "I'd better hurry then..." He finally took his eyes off of me and fixed his attention to Kihyun, leaning forward in his seat.
Kihyun narrowed his eyes at Mr.Lee, "Seems like a wise choice..." He said, sliding over a folder onto the coffee table between them.
The meeting went on for about an hour and a half. They went on about budgeting and building permits, and finally, the contract that would make their two companies partners.
"Alright, when should I be back with my father to finalize the agreement?" Mr.Lee said.
Kihyun looked over at me.
I cleared my throat, "You have next Tuesday free, at..." I double checked on the calendar app on my phone, "11:00AM."
Kihyun turned his attention back to Mr.Lee, "Tuesday at 11:00 work for you?" He asked.
Mr.Lee nodded, "Yes, sounds fine."
Kihyun stood to his feet, and Mr.Lee did so as well.
"Then, thank you for coming," Kihyun said, sticking his hand out for a shake.
Mr.Lee smiled, "Well, it's only what's best for Lee&Co."
Mr.Lee turned his attention to me, and stuck his hand out.
I grabbed his hand to shake it, but he was quick to flip my hand over and kiss it gently.
Once again, my face was hot- not only from Mr.Lee's forwardness, but also because I was sure Kihyun was staring daggers into the back of my head.
"Oh Mr.Lee..." I said, wiggling my hand free.
"Please, call me Minhyuk..." He said, standing upright and fixing his tie. He walked to the door, "See you Tuesday, Kihyun," he walked out of the office and closed the door.
I bit my lip, not even wanting to turn to look at Kihyun, but doing so anyway.
"You will call him Mr.Lee." Kihyun said firmly, walking over to his desk and sitting down.
The back of his chair stood well past the height of his head, making him seem even more intimidating than he already was.
He wore a slim fitting black suit that accentuated his shoulders. His face was angular, and in a way, feminine. His voice was deep- not quite as deep as Shownu's, but the way he spoke was so stern and direct, making it seem even manlier.
If it wasn't because he was so demeaning and rude, I'd say he was almost...handsome.
"Of course, I wasn't gonna call him Minhyu-"
"What were you doing downstairs?" He asked, keeping his eyes focused on his computer screen.
I looked down, "Getting coffee..." I said quietly.
I hated how he made me feel.
He looked up at me.
"Oh please," He scoffed, rolling his eyes.
I stayed quiet, tightly hugging my notepad to my chest.
"So, you weren't busy throwing yourself at the coffee guy downstairs? Okay..." He said, turning his attention back to his screen.
I swallowed, "I wasn't-" I tried to steady my voice as I felt a lump rise in my throat, "I wasn't throwing myself at him..." I managed to say.
"Go back to your desk. I have work to do," He said, his voice back to being flat.
I pursed my lips, "Yes, Mr.Yoo."
When I sat back at my desk, I felt defeated.
How much more of this can I take?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I glanced up at the giant clock that hung on a wall across the entire floor. 6 o'clock. I gathered my things and set them on my desk as I prepared to leave for the day. I walked over to Kihyun's office door, and stood there for a moment, readying myself for whatever rude tune he'd speak to me in.
Just as I was about to knock on the door, it opened, and Kihyun stood in the doorway- his face only inches away from mine. He didn't move away, nor did I. His expression was unreadable as he looked down at me. I was frozen.
"Yes?" He asked, reaching up and adjusting the collar of his dress shirt.
I shook my head, coming back to reality, "I- I was just gonna ask you if you needed anything before I left..." I said, taking a step back.
He looked past me, scanning the floor with his eyes as people were either huddled by the elevator or packing up to leave.
He turned his eyes back to me, "No. You can go."
I nodded and quickly turned around to pick up my stuff.
"Have a good night, Mr.Yoo," I said, keeping my head down as I walked over to the elevator.
I stepped inside, and as the doors were slowly closing, I noticed that Kihyun was still standing at his doorway, staring straight ahead...at me.
A/N: Hope you enjoyed! Part two will be up, probably tomorrow :)

“You’re drooling a little there,” Yoongi mumbles, nudging your arm.
“Will you shut up,” you glare, trying to focus on the article you’re supposed to be reviewing but it’s difficult. How can you focus on Market Upheavals when Jeon Jungkook is doing pull-ups in his backyard.
You don’t know how it happened but when you came back home from college one fine day, Jungkook had just changed. He wasn’t just the kid who stuck to your brother like a second skin, following him around like a lost puppy anymore. He had grown up. A little too much, you think to yourself when he lifts his shirt to wipe the sweat that had collected on his forehead. You think you’re mistaken, but you catch him looking right where you’re sitting, and when he does, you have to hold back the jolt of shivers that threaten to go down your spine.
“Hey, hyung,” he calls, waving his hand to Yoongi before making his way over the short fence. “I wanted to ask if I could go over some of my compositions with you later.”
“Yeah, stop by sometime before 8, my shift starts at 11,” Yoongi responds without looking up from his phone. Jungkook lets out a non-committal hum in acknowledgment before he leans over to you, invading your personal space so all you can see is his sweaty torso. Your eyes budge at the way his muscles flex and follow the way a drop of sweat trails down the side of his jaw, down to his neck. He’s so close you can feel his breath on your skin, his eyes noting your reactions and you swear you see a corner of his lips twitch. “Noona,” he says, voice lower than normal. Your eyes jolt to meet his own, mouth suddenly very dry.
“You’re sitting on my towel,” he points towards the offending cloth placed snugly between the dock chair and your thighs.
“Oh,” you let out, voice uncharacteristically weak but you comply nonetheless, moving so he can slide it out from under you. He grazes the skin of your thigh lightly, and you know he’s doing it on purpose. You don’t know when he got so bold, last time you were home he’d barely even look at you for more than a minute before he was reduced to a blushing, stuttering mess.
But that was two summers ago and the scrawny, awkward boy you used to know is no longer there.
