Hi! I’m a sophomore finishing up my illustration AAS at FIT. Always wanted to go into animation and I’d thought maybe I’d have been able to the last two years there, but decided upon transfer to a more animation focused school. I’ve been looking up sheridan more lately and was wondering your opinions on it? I stumbled upon your accepted portfolio vid (watched when I first applied to schools). Are things good there? I vaguely heard there were issues but can’t find any accounts when researching.
Personally, my year did have issues with the animation program’s sudden change in the schedule and classes, and I can’t lie when I say it’s affected us pretty negatively. Both our layout and painting classes were merged into one and it was handled pretty poorly; we ended up not learning anything from either subjects but instead just repeated the same exact projects we’d done the year before which is a huge waste if you ask me or anyone else in my year. There are other iffy changes that happened throughout the semester but I won’t go into full detail here since it would take a while, haha.
HOWEVER, having said all that, I personally think that these are problems that only our year and the year after us will feel the effects of, because I believe that the school will likely get their act together by then and polish the program to a better standard than what we were given. There’s also the strike that really threw all of us currently at Sheridan and ontario colleges in general into a loop, but that’s not something that you should consider when applying in the first place since it’s not something that happens often, haha. I know it really doesn’t sound like it, but despite all that, I’ve really enjoyed my time here so far! Everyone here from students to teachers are just amazing and the atmosphere is truly inspiring. I feel like I’ve grown so much as an artist the past 2 years that I’ve been here; way more than I could have on my own in the same amount of time. For Sheridan specifically, I will warn that 1st year is SUPER tough, especially if you don’t have a lot of experience managing your own time. I can’t say much for 2nd year with how botched it was for us, but in general I got a sense that the workload was much more forgiving, so I wouldn’t worry too much about it 2nd year onwards.Hope that cleared some things up for ya!
