Well, as promised, I have posted the past EIGHT chapters of a United Front.

My total word count, after the epilogue, is 118 THOUSAND words... color me speechless.

Thank you to everyone that embarked on this little journey of mine with me, your comments and Kudos have meant the world while I was going through a tough time.

So, please allow me to pitch my fic to everyone following the #Kyalin tag one last time.

A completed, 100k + mystery Kyalin Slowburn. You have angst, you have pining, there is smut there is badass bending from both Lin AND Kya. There is sacrifice and reconciliation. Politics and relationships and morality.

This is a little piece of me and I think it says a lot about who I am and what my values are. So of you're bored, and looking for something to read, I hope you'll consider A United Front

For thos who are interested but not up to date

I have essentially FINISHED my WIP A United Front.

The last time I posted on here was to let you know I dropped chapter 12, well, I just dropped SIX more chapters and things are really ramping up. Lin has to step up, or risk losing everyone she loves.

So if you are looking for a 100k long COMPLETE Kyalin fic with humor, angst, mystery, and of course, some insane bending, I prompt you to find it on AO3 (not to toot my own horn or anything I'm just very proud)

Anyway, the last EIGHT chapters will be going up THIS WEEKEND.

Dropping a small tidbit below from chapter 15, where things get a little *spicy*

The fell into the motion, and Lin's free hand migrated to Kya's waist.

The arm that gripped its wrist relaxed, and Kya was able to maneuver past it to grip Lin's cheek.

Kya's lips were gentle at first, not daring to tread any further than the precedent.

But then Lin made another not-so-subtle gesture by pulling Kya's hips towards her own.

The waterbender took her permission, and her lips went from defense to offense. Lin used her free hand to grip the counter, stabilizing herself against Kya's advancements.

She couldn't help the growing grin as she kissed the other woman, and as Kya advanced on her.

Kya paused for a moment bringing her other hand to Lin's scarred cheek. Her thumb brushed over them ever so slightly.

Her breath was hot against Lin's nose, and reminiscent of the sweet wine.

Kya was looking at her, like she had been all night. All day. All week.

But it was different, now. Her eyes lacked the quizzical, calculated irises. The passion, the excitement, the thrill was still there.

Their breath was heavy, their chests rising and falling like parabolic waves. Lin could only handle so much of it before she used both arms to grip Kya's neck, pulling the waterbender back down to her.

Her hands ran through Kya's hair, deconstructing any of the remaining structure it had in it.

Kya's fingers slipped into the band of Lin's khakis pulling Lin's waist toward her.

Lin let it happen, succumbing to the force she'd tried so hard to fend off.

Images from her dreams rushed back.

I think I can take care of you.

“It's been a long day,” Lin whispered, pushing her forehead into Kya's.

“Yeah,” Kya agreed, but her eyes were distracted.

The way Kya looked at her… it made her warm. It struck the nerve that had convinced her she was undesirable, unlovable for so long.

She wanted more of it.

She needed more of it.

Lin lifted Kya's chin with a couple fingers, forcing her to make eye contact.

“It's been a long day,” Lin repeated, “And I could really use a shower.”

OMG YES

After I made the LoK post I began to spiral down the rangshi tunnel and here is what I got

Florida!!! Describes the time when Kyoshi and Rangi first started to fall in love. Kyoshi became obsessed with the freedom she got with the flying Opera Company. That taste of her power and what she could be was a drug to her. Throw in those moments with Rangi and my girl reminisces about the early days of her "team avatar" adventures. I think it also fits well because she was also very broken at this time, the trauma that was father gloworm and Jianzhu's betrayal is what drove her to this sort of in-between peace.

Fortnight: Rangi core. This is the song that plays every time she has a little moment with Kyoshi. I see this paired with Down Bad and it shows the sort of fluffier side of things before shit goes down when she is PINING after Kyoshi trying to get her attention. Fortnight could also be the fluffier song when they are down by the lake.

Rangi and "I Can Fix Him, (No Really I Can)" would make for an interesting one shot where maybe she has to get her family on board with their relationship. Kyoshi seems broken and malicious but Rangi testifies to her character and is adamant about making Kyoshi the best avatar she can be.

I also like the vision of Rangi feeling/singing something adjacent to MBOBHFT, used in a context about how Kyoshi is always injuring herself, and rarely makes a big deal of it. I especially like this idea if you *change* the words a little bit and get "only breaks my favorite toys" instead of "his favorite toys" because that feels so angsty to me. Like Rangi loves Kyoshi so much, and seeing how Kyoshi has little to no disregard for her wellbeing, it breaks Rangi's heart a little bit.

"Stop worrying," Kyoshi said, recoiling at Rangi's touch.

"I have to worry, Kyoshi. I have to."

"No you don't! I never want you to worry about me." Rangi frowned as she helped her girlfriend lay down, pretending not to notice the wince of pain Kyoshi attempted to subdue.

"You don't get, Kyoshi. If I don't worry, no one will. You may not care but these parts of you that you're willing to let go... I love them. I love all of them. I need you whole. So stop breaking yourself."

Kyoshi looked at her with pensive eyes. She looked like she was going to say something, and Rangi almost wished she wouldn't. Things were getting to cushy already and she didn't like the swirl of uneasiness in her gut. She couldn't push Kyoshi into horse stance to shut things down this time, so she'd have to endure it. Even if it meant she shed a couple tears.

But, as Kyoshi opened her mouth, her thoughtful eyes turned into panicked ones. Rangi simply lifted the bucket next to her and brought it before her girlfriends face as Kyoshi began to return her lunch.

"I'll be better," Kyoshi said, in-between dry-heaves. "Because I don't like this part of being injured."

Rangi smiled a little bit, moving Kyoshi's hair out of the way.

"And I know if it were you... I'd be upset, too. Because I love you. And your... parts are my favorite, too." Kyoshi jumbled.

Rangi appreciated the sentiment by planting a small kiss on Kyoshi's head. She looked down at Kyoshi's bloodied abdomen and the knife that protruded from it.

"I suppose," she began, and Kyoshi looked at her without moving her mouth. "That given the circumstances, I can forgive you. Just this once."

Now OF course, Who's Afraid of Little old Me? Is so Kyoshi coded. It just FITS so well. I need displays of her power showcased to this song ASAP.

People were so quick to rule her out based on the fact she couldn't bend small things. "Poor fragile Kyoshi has a hard time with bending" then Kyoshi gets her fans and is like watch me bitch. Her showing up to bandit camps, slumlords and all the bad gangs at the time to make a name for herself. The world has been without an avatar, they've forgotten to be afraid of the bigger fish. She here she comes, and when she gets a first taste of that blood she doesn't stop. She makes it VERY clear she is not to be reckoned with. Cue the montage.

Finally, I feel like there is room here for The Prophecy, but I'm not quite sure how or where yet. Another one I have to let sit and marinate before it becomes a full headcannon. Maybe it plays more into the old team avatar (Hei-Rang, Kelsang, Jianzhu) than specifically Rangshi though.

HELLO ANON I LOVE YOU THANK YOU FOR FILLING MY INBOX

Okay but I have been thinking about the practical uses of TPD for LoK since its release (I've listened to the entire anthology like 5 times now) and some of my *thoughts* are a little disorganized but here they are as they come.

Kya watching Lin and Tenzin grow together and become a couple has her DOWN BAD and I would like to write something in the future, maybe a one shot drawing inspiration from this.

Fresh Out the Slammer is so Suyin/Kuvira coded, whether it's platonically or romantic idc but to me it is THEM. Specifically after the show when Kuvira is feeling empty and alone and trying to get back into her old life but she has to accept that it's not going to work and she has to start all over again.

I Can Do it With A Broken Heart- immediately thought of Asami. Not because of her relationship with Mako or Korra but because of the relationship with her dad. That was such a painful moment for her in the series and sometimes I feel like it wasn't shown enough, her grief was never really processed and maybe she struggles a bit in the beginning. Of course Korra helps her through it : )

Kyalin The Alchemy need I say more.

I feel like there's big potential for an angsty Lin-centered one shot inspired by Cassandra. I haven't fully developed this yet but it's brewing.

thanK you aIMee is another one I feel like would work well with Kuvira. I could see an angsty piece about her slowly building up to the events of season 4. I feel like maybe she has some growing resentment over her childhood and maybe that gets taken out on Suyin or just the Beifongs in general.

For shits and giggles Korra sing smallest man who ever lived to Zaheer because my guy short as fuck

And for non shits and giggles "Who's Afraid of Little old Me" this is AVATAR KORRA. This song I see in the moment before she takes down Kuvira. Like Kuvira is cocky and is convinced she's already won because she's bested korra multiple times now. And Korra is a force of nature. There's room for a powerful dissonance there between season 3 where she as the Avatar is a target. Zaheer wants to get rid of the avatar to restore chaos because the Avatar is too powerful. Korra doesn't understand this, she would never use her powers for evil, she would never use them to hurt people... until she has to. She IS the Avatar, she is the strongest being in the world, and part of her healing process is claiming that power. I can see a conversation going something like this:.

Korra: I don't get it, Asami. It's like no matter what I do, how many times I show these people I'm on their side... someone is always out to get me. It's like they're afraid of me or something.

Asami: Korra, you are the Avatar. The only thing standing between them and their fucked-up ideal "world", is you.

Korra: I don't want people to be scared of me, I want them to feel safe. To feel like I'm an ally.

Asami: and you are, but... I don't know, Korra. Maybe it's not all bad if some people fear you. If Kuvira, or Zaheer had been more afraid maybe... maybe things would've turned out differently.

And then the bad guy is all "you think you scare me?" And Korra is all

"No, but I should."

(I could also see this trope working well with Rangshi but you requested LOK )

Imagine Zaheer telling her after the downfall of the Red Lotus from his prison cell and it is JUST to spite her. She is everything he hates about the world, tethered to the ground, strict, and pristine ordered.

She doesn't believe him at first, because why would she, until he pulls out a picture, much like the one above and tells her to take it to Suyin.

She slides the photo to Suyin, and before Suyin even has to say anything, Kuvira can see it on her face.

Cue Kuvira doing everything she can to avoid turning into her father, to avoid the anarchism he was ready to sacrifice her for. Sprinkle in a little bit of distaste for Suyin for lying, and her clear favoritism for her non-bastard children. All this talk of Suyin raising her like "she was her own" when Kuvira was her own and she just... can't fathom why. Who abandons a child? Who ditches their child with an extremist father, only to retcon that decision when said child can provide a service for her?

I feel a super angsty moment of her just breaking down Azula style because no one wants her. She was brought in this world as an inconvenience, an accident. Torn between her own morals and the conflicting ideologies of her parents, she falls into a pattern of self-destructive behavior and well... the rest is history.

I've posted about 1/2 of the complete story on AO3 now and I think yall deserve a special shout out your comments and theories are so inspiring and I hope I can post the rest of it soon. I'm up to 90K words now and I PROMISE those of you waiting for angst, it is coming.

But for now, enjoy these two awkward gays trying to flirt with each other

“Lin call me crazy but I think you enjoyed yourself, even if you did slip a bit of work in at the end.”

“Having someone to fight other than my sister helped.” Lin said plainly.

“I see,” Kya said, “so in summary, you like having me around.”

Lin watched her family walk inside, busied by their own chatter and reflections of the evening. Suyin offered pointers and Bataar offered his excitement and encouragement.

When they were inside, she turned back to Kya, who was watching her a little too intently.

The sky had darkened significantly, Lin hadn't noticed before, but the stars were out. The sky wasn't quite black, but rather a stark shade of navy. The moon was almost full, a few more days and the fox-wolves would be audible from inside the dome.

“Maybe I do,” Lin replied. “Would that be so bad?”

Kya seemed surprised, looking from Lin, to the house, to the sky before her eyes landed back on her.

Lin's stomach tumulted in nervousness, or excitement, or both.

You're not exactly subtle.

Suyin was right, she wasn't subtle. She never had been. When she was angry she made it obvious. When she was frustrated she was expressive. She had held a grudge for twenty years because of how un-subtle she was.

“Not at all,” Kya answered, her eyes darting back and forth with nervousness.

There was a knock on the glass, so Lin looked to see her niece waving her over.

“That can't be good,” Lin said, looking back to Kya.

“Always the pessimist.” Kya laughed, brushing past her. Her shoulder nearly made Lin stumble with the impact. Kya's face turned at just the right angle that Lin could see a grin form when she thought Lin couldn't see.

Lin sighed contently before following the others inside.

She watched Kya in front of her, hoping the waterbender wouldn't turn around and catch her smile.

“Thank you, Lin.” Bataar said. “For… everything. She really wanted you here for a while, she was just too proud to ask.”

“That's cute,” Kya chimed, “because Lin was the exact same except she was too stubborn to offer.”

Bataar laughed before he, too, stood up.

“If you guys need anything, at all, do not hesitate. I'm sorry things are so… hectic around here, but given the circumstances, I'm sure you understand. There's an empty office, just down the hall from your room, Lin, that you guys can use if you need it. I'm sure you have ample corkboard and red thread,” he joked and Lin allowed the corner of her lip to raise in amusement.

“I didn't bring any with me, but funny enough I think it just appears when you need it,” Lin added and the three of them laughed.

Thinking about, however sad it may be, if Aang had died earlier (shortly after Tenzin was born) Korra's team avatar could've been Lin, Kya, Tenzin, Bumi and Izumi.

I feel like the Gaang's kids would've made the perfect team avatar in another timeline
