A Classic Indian Movie Without Dancing

Get to know a classic Spanish psychodrama

A Nearly Forgotten Ukrainian Movie Classic
Finally, I came around doing another movie review. This time, I picked Zvenigora, a surreal Ukrainian (or Soviet, respectively) silent movie that's quite ambitious, but not without flaws. It’s still a pretty interesting movie to watch, especially due to the cool imagery.

Want to know what influenced Orwell’s 1984?
I found a largely unknown science fiction movie that’s actually pretty watchable and has an interesting backstory. Wir (We) is a German made for TV movie and an adaptation of a novel that greatly influenced dystopian tales, even Orwell’s 1984 and Huxley’s Brave New World! If you can look past the poor production values, you’ll find a clever movie with well-written dialogue at its core.

Gotta Watch More Romanian Movies
I watched my first Romanian movie and I was really impressed. It's a heartfelt war drama with clever social commentary: Then I Sentenced Them All to Death. I gotta check out more Romanian movies, especially by the director Sergiu Nocilaescu who is some kind of a legend there.

A nearly forgotten visual masterpiece
Sergei Parajanov is not quite as well-known as other legendary directors of the 20th century. However, he was friends with many and the likes of Tarkovsky, Godard, and Fellini have described him as a masterful visual storyteller. Experience The Legend of Suram Fortress, which is a stunningly beautiful movie.

This low-budget Kick-Ass is actually fun to watch
The first Chilean superhero movie is also pretty entertaining: Mirageman, although it may seem like a cheap copy of Kick-Ass or Defendor, actually came out before and features some rad fighting sequences. Give this movie a shot, if you’re into independent action movies that don’t take themselves too seriously.

A Nostalgic Throwback to 80s CGI
I found an experimental short film (still 30-40 minutes) on Youtube that features computer-animated segments from the late 80s. It’s pretty fascinating to watch, although the animation and the MIDI soundtrack are extremely outdated, obviously.
