Indigenous Peoples Month / Here ,There And Everywhere .
Tribute to : Julia de Burgos,(February 17, 1914 – July 6, 1953) a Puerto Rico-born journalist and a pioneering force in the 1960s Nuyorican poetry movement in New York, who often wrote her poems in Spanish. In “Ay, Ay, Ay de la Grifa Negra,” which is presented in English in the anthology, she asserts her Black heritage: “Black of pure tint, I cry and laugh / the vibration of being a black statue.”
Ay, Ay, Ay of the Black Grifa
Ay, ay, ay, that am kinky-haired and pure black
kinks in my hair, Kafir in my lips;
and my flat nose Mozambiques.
Black of pure tint, I cry and laugh
the vibration of being a black statue;
a chunk of night, in which my white
teeth are lightning;
and to be a black vine
which entwines in the black
and curves the black nest in which the raven lies.
Black chunk of black in which I sculpt myself,
ay, ay, ay, my statue is all black.
They tell me that my grandfather was the slave
for whom the master paid thirty coins.
Ay, ay, ay, that the slave was my grandfather
is my sadness, is my sadness.
If he had been the master
it would be my shame:
that in men, as in nations,
if being the slave is having no rights
being the master is having no conscience.
Ay, ay, ay wash the sins of the white King
in forgiveness black Queen.
Ay, ay, ay, the race escapes me
and buzzes and flies toward the white race,
to sink in its clear water;
or perhaps the white will be shadowed in the black.
Ay, ay, ay my black race flees
and with the white runs to become bronzed;
to be one for the future,
fraternity of America!

“Do you know who this is a photo of? Chances are you don’t, but don’t feel bad because probably not one American in one million does, and that is a National tragedy. His name is Eugene Jacques Bullard, and he is the first African-American fighter pilot in history. But he is also much more then that: He’s also a national hero, and his story is so incredible that I bet if you wrote a movie script based on it Hollywood would reject it as being too far-fetched.
Bullard was an expat living in France, and when World War 1 broke out he joined the French Infantry. He was seriously wounded, and France awarded him the Croix de Guerre and Medaille Militaire. In 1916 he joined the French air service and he first trained as a gunner but later he trained as a pilot. When American pilots volunteered to help France and formed the famous Lafayette Escadrille, he asked to join but by the time he became a qualified pilot they were no longer accepting new recruits, so he joined the Lafayette Flying Corps instead. He served with French flying units and he completed 20 combat missions.
When the United States finally joined the war, Bullard was the only member of the Escadrille or the French Flying Corps who was NOT invited to join the US Air Service. The reason? At that time the Air Service only accepted white men.
Now here is the part that almost sounds like a sequel to ‘Casablanca’: After WWI Bullard became a jazz musician in Paris and he eventually owned a nightclub called ‘L’Escadrille’. When the Germans invaded France and conquered it in WW2, his Club, and Bullard, became hugely popular with German officers, but what they DIDN’T know was that Bullard, who spoke fluent German, was actually working for the Free French as a spy. He eventually joined a French infantry unit, but he was badly wounded and had to leave the service.
By the end of the war, Bullard had become a national hero in France, but he later moved back to the U.S. where he was of course completely unknown. Practically no one in the United States was aware of it when, in 1959, the French government named him a national Chevalier, or Knight.
In 1960, the President of France, Charles DeGaulle, paid a state visit to the United States and when he arrived he said that one of the first things he wanted to do was to meet Bullard. That sent the White House staff scrambling because most of them, of course, had never even heard of him. They finally located him in New York City, and DeGaulle traveled there to meet him personally. At the time, Eugene Bullard was working as … An elevator operator.
Not long after Eugene Bullard met with the President of France, he passed away, and today very, very few Americans, and especially African-Americans, even know who he is. But, now YOU do, don’t you? And I hope you’ll be able to find opportunities to tell other people about this great American hero that probably only 1 American in 1 Million has ever heard of.”

Counterpunch Boxing · Martin Popov 'I've spent my entire career proving critics wrong. They said I was too small to be a Heavyweight, and I won the world championship four times. They said I couldn't go the distance, and I won my first world title in fifteen rounds in one of the most grueling matches ever fought, then they did the same against George Foreman, Larry Holmes and Riddick Bowe. They said Mike Tyson was going to kill me, and I beat him twice. They said if I fought Bowe a second time, he'd put me in the hospital, but I beat him too.' - Evander Holyfield Dear Father God, So many things seem to be impossible. Sometimes I wonder how I will make it through each day and how will I survive. But, when I stop looking at my problems and I look to You and Your promises, I am calmed by You and by Your Holy Spirit. Please help me to believe, as Jesus taught... Everything is possible for one who believes. Mark 9:23 You are in control and I trust You in all things... And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28 Thank You for Your promises and for the hope that I receive from the knowledge that You are here with me, as Jesus taught... I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. John 14:18 Thank You that You are here for me. Thank You that You are leading me by Your Holy Spirit. God rest Nichelle Nicholas 🙏🏾❤️🕊🎶🎭🎬 Actress and singer Nichelle Nichols, best known for her groundbreaking portrayal of Lt. Nyota Uhura in "Star Trek has passed away. Admired by many including Dr Martin Luther King Jr. Dr .Martin Luther King who was a great fan and “ Trekkie” encouraged her to continue her role at one point when she felt like quitting. The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. called it "the first non-stereotypical role portrayed by a Black woman in television history." Heartbroken at the news of her passing, however, I am comforted in the knowledge that she illuminated the way for so of us many with her grace, beauty, talent, intelligence and her commitment to humanity going boldly to the stars! ~ Levar Burton #nichellenichols #uhuru #startrek #levarburton #trekkie #startrekuhuracosplay #godrest https://www.instagram.com/p/CgtKvFzOarH/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

On 24 July 1969 not long after the Stonewall rebellion, the New York Gay Liberation Front held their first public meeting. The GLF was a completely new type of LGBT+ organisation: rather than advocate for gay civil rights and assimilation into mainstream capitalist society, the GLF advocated complete sexual liberation and the overthrowing of that society. Former members of the group tell their story in our podcast episodes 25-26 about Stonewall and the GLF: https://workingclasshistory.com/2019/05/13/e21-22-the-stonewall-riots-and-pride-at-50/ Listen on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, your favourite podcast app or on our website https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.296224173896073/2042408579277615/?type=3

On this date June 29th in the year 1820 The slave ship (Antelope) with more than 280 captive Africans aboard,was captured by the United States. It had been legally engaged in the African slave trade under the flag of Spain when it was taken over by a privateer at Cabinda. The legal case on the fate of the captured Africans, known as The Antelope, lasted for seven years, with some of the Africans being turned over as slaves to Spanish owners, while 120 were sent as free people to Liberia.

Fan The Flames Of Friendship
Proverbs 17:17
New King James Version
17 "A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity." "My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends."
“A friend is one who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden.” “A good friend is like a four-leaf clover: hard to find and lucky to have.” “There is nothing I would not do for those who are really my friends.” "True friendship comes when the silence between two people is comfortable."

On this day, 19 May 1920, a shootout took place in the town of Matewan, West Virginia between striking miners and the Baldwin-Felts Detective Agency, who had arrived in town to evict miners’ families from their mountain encampment, in what would become known as the infamous Battle of Matewan. What made the situation in Matewan so unique was that the sheriff, Sid Hatfield (pictured, left), supported the miners rather than the coal companies. So the detectives brought along a fake warrant for the arrest of Hatfield, which he refused to respect, and shooting broke out. Seven Baldwin-Felts detectives were killed, including two of the Felts brothers themselves, as were two miners – Bob Mullins, and Tot Tinsley, an unarmed bystander – as well as the mayor Cabell Testermen. Hatfield and 22 other people, mostly miners, were subsequently arrested and put on trial for murder in what was at that time the lengthy murder trial in West Virginia history. But they were all eventually acquitted by a pro-union jury. Having been unable to secure a conviction, Baldwin-Felts agents would later murder Hatfield alongside his deputy, Ed Chambers, on the steps of a nearby courthouse. None of the killers were convicted of any crime. On this day, 22 April 1993, Stephen Lawrence, a Black British teenager, was murdered in a racist attack while he waited for a bus in Eltham, London. Rather than devote adequate resources to finding the killers, instead the London Metropolitan Police infiltrated the Lawrence family’s campaign for justice in order to find ways to smear and discredit the family. However, ultimately years of campaigning forced the government to acknowledge the institutional racism of the police force, and two of the killers were eventually convicted in 2012. * Learn more about the problems with policing in white supremacist, capitalist society in this book: https://shop.workingclasshistory.com/products/the-end-of-policing-alex-s-vitale https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.296224173896073/1969876003197540/?type=3
