Angel / Cordelia Chase
Angel: The Series (series 1999 - 2004), Buffy the Vampire Slayer (series 1997 - 2003; only from seasons 1-4 for both characters, then guest appearances)
THIS scene right here is what sold me completely on Angel and Cordelia as a ship'. The way he calls out her name and the way she looks so helpless...and things just went from there. You think about the evolution of these characters individually and together and they came a very long way with each other. No one in a million years would have thought Angel and Cordelia from Buffy the Vampire Slayer would ever be a romantic couple on another series, but they did, and it was just as meaningful and great as Angel's relationship with Buffy.
Things ended so sad and strangely for both characters individually and together. They never got a happy ending, from my understanding in the comics they barely have interactions any longer. Like if they tried to get together at this point it wouldn't work because they're not the same as they were back when they wanted to be together, make sense?
so real of angel to need to homoerotically hoist all his man enemies into the air by their collar and pin them again the wall, pressing his face mere centimeter from there’s as he whispers obscene, graphic fantasies about what he will do to them into their ears. so, so very real
in the two months since I last spoke to a friend in a different city she has watched both btvs and ats
the good (?): she has watched btvs 3 times and ats twice and become obsessed, and now having visited, we watched AtS season 5 together because i'd never watched it before
the unfortunate: our diverging tastes/opinions, specifically, her opinions that:
spike was 100% straight
buffy didn't deserve spike in s6 and that spike should have walked away
willow was 100% straight before the willow/tara relationship
spike should have been bored by drusilla and buffy because they aren't intellectual enough
'there are no incest vibes with the fanged four'
angel never loved cordelia
It's always interesting to see what people who weren't in fandom feel, because fandom itself has such a romantic/sexual slant to everything.
but it's been enough for her to get into fanfiction and read a whole bunch of buffy/spike lol so who knows, in 6 months she might have changed her mind completely
At what point do you reckon Angel or Spike realised that they can appear in photographs?
In Season 3, on Buffy’s 18th Birthday, her mother gets kidnapped and the vampire who did that took hundreds, maybe thousands of polaroids, and he himself shows up in some of them, so it’s confirmed as canon that vampires can show up in at least some forms of photography.
Do you reckon that maybe the Fanged Four at some point got together, ate a photographer, and took a photo of themselves altogether? I wonder how long it’d take for news to spread that vampires can appear in photographs.
Maybe it also depends on the type of photograph it is, for example just because they can appear in polaroids doesn’t mean that they’d show up on an iphone selfie, or maybe that doesn’t matter that much. That old myth that vampires don’t show up in mirrors I think was based on the fact that old mirrors were made with silver, which was also linked with repelling or harming supernatural or mythical creatures, but in BTVS, Angel’s reflection doesn’t show up in a window, which is just a piece of glass, so maybe that material doesn’t really matter that much, and that similar logic might translate to photographs.
I reckon that once they figured it out, they might start to use photos in an attempt to replace or replicate mirrors, as best as they can. Angel, who clearly has a lot of thoughts and strong feelings about his hair, might have a secret polaroid camera that he uses nearly daily to check his hair before he goes out. Spike might take selfies to test out different eyeliner looks. Harmony would probably love snapchat and instagram filters.
this is probably not what the person writing this originally meant, but my favorite song that was created/existing within a tv show (or movie, technically) would be supernova girl by proto zoa from the disney channel original movie, zenon: girl of 21st century. that song was 🤏💋👩🍳.
favorite theme song would be the buffy the vampire slayer theme song by nerf herder (i know link below is by the breeders though).
honorable mentions go to the sopranos theme song (woke up this morning by alabama 3) and the true blood theme song (bad things by jace everett).
favorite finale episode: 🍓
angel, not fade away. i think they did a good job wrapping up lose ends after abruptly being cancelled and i like how the episode ended without showing the giant battle/fight scene, implying that the fight never ends.
I’ve been watching Angel season 5 and I like to imagine Spike sees Fred as a sister-figure like Dawn. Like, “ah yes, I’ve collected another quirky brunette.”
