I am honestly floored. I never thought I'd see these guys do anything ever again.
They're only hanging around the draenei heritage gathering, but at least there's new gossip text! Also, not that it wasn't already clear that they're inseparable, but Asric insisting on coming with Jadaar to freaking Exodar, and Jadaar negotiating with the peacekeepers to actually allow Asric into freaking Exodar is on a whole other level.

Absolutely adored the Draenei heritage quest and think it's probably the best one we've gotten, but my favorite part of all by far was seeing these two again. I love how they brought back so many different characters connected to the Draenei from across the entire history of the game, especially as someone who has been playing my Draenei since BC, but these two are so special to me and seeing them again, still together after all this time made me giddy.

someday i need to fucking write the asric/jadaar thing i started when cata was in beta, i probably lost however many chapters i had of it when my hard drive crashed several years ago but it was a fun time
i dont remember what i was calling it but the subtitle was “or how asric and jadaar learned to stop worrying and love the cataclysm”
it started out with them hanging out at the argent renaissance faire freezing their balls off and running out of money for hot drinks and then running into asrics sister, my first death knight, who had just returned from murdering the lich king with extreme prejudice, and whom he had thought was dead-dead since the scourge came to silvermoon
she lent them money to get back to dalaran and then went off to use her newfound saving-the-world fame to pick up orc women

I reinstalled WoW, and made a brand-new account because I deleted my middle-school era one a few years ago in a very emotional fit. And I regret that but I also think that account and my characters on it were so tainted by a bunch of things- unpleasant friendships being top of the list. So, a clean slate should be nice.
I'm remembering how much I loved my WoW OCs though... And just, as stupid and contradictory as it is, the decades of worldbuilding from WC3 through the present is SUCH a fun sandbox to play in. I am thinking of working on my Jadaar/Asric, Thasstira and Shadow Priest OC fic again... WIPs from 2018-2019 moldering on my computer........

i still dream of that novel-length Asric/Jadaar fic that was hosted on ygallery. I must have read that fic a decade ago by now. i remember it being sooooo sooo so sooo good like it had all the ideal fanfiction story beats…. The most carefully crafted moments of homoerotic tension….. I remember so many specific sentences from that fic that I could probably partially reanimate it

Iksha | Asric Winters
Asric winters had always been colder than most. The flame posts that guarded the streets burned out faster, and the light of the flaes were dimmer.
Iksha had never been fond of winter to begin with, but the fact that it took away their warmth had simply made them despise the season more than most. It was a known fact that Asrics hated the colder seasons. People would stay in their homes, huddled by their burning fires, coddled in warm clothes next to their loved ones.
The thought itself was enough to warm Iksha’s heart. There wasn’t much behind it besides it being a nice concept to dream about, but Iksha did so nonetheless.
They were seated by a fire, a small one that they tended to ever so often with their hands, feeding the dying flames whenever they felt the need to. Iksha was alone. They didn’t mind it, it had been something they’d gotten used to over the years. Ever since the Dawn Harvest, and ever since Ishaan had left… Well, Helven wasn’t a long way away. Rather the opposite, it was simply a few days journey through the roads. And if Iksha was to borrow their father’s vehicle, then—they stopped themselves.
Stepping on the idea before it could grow too tall.
It was impossible. Borrow father’s car? Iksha couldn’t even entertain the idea of leaving their home without their parents' anxiety pulling them right back to the safety of their living room.
Besides, Iksha didn’t think Ishaan would appreciate the sentiment. He enjoyed being far from the family, Iksha knew it as much as their parents did. Mother had come to terms with it, although Father had taken a while longer. But the notion had been decided: Ishaan had chosen his path, and the rest of them were to simply come to terms with it.
The wind starts to beat harder, cold bitter wind bruising the window that Iksha sat under. Begrudgingly they stood up, their hands warming up as they began to concentrate on the small flame in the middle of the room.
They imagined it growing taller, growing hotter, burning as bright as any flame ever could. It was growing tiring having to get up and tend to it. Iksha didn’t understand why it was their job, Father was just as capable if he used a fan.
Iksha clenches their fists, closing their palms as they feel annoyance beginning to settle into their mind; no, no, that wasn’t allowed. They couldn’t afford to let their emotions control their fires.
But their hands were still warm when Iksha closed their eyes, and they knew the fire had begun to burn a darker blue.
“…Iksha?”
Iksha takes a soft breath, holding the air in their chest as they pressed dull fingernails into the palm of their hand. They tried, they tried hard, controlling an element as dangerous as Ignis wasn’t easy, and sometimes Iksha hated that something so powerful had been something they’d been gifted control over. Belatedly, they come to realize that the room had begun to smell of smoke.
“Iksha—”
None of this would have happened if Ishaan had still been here, if their brother had stayed in Asrasya, if he hadn’t left them. If he hadn’t left their family behind—left Iksha behind—then maybe… then they could have…
“Iksha stop!”
Iksha feels a cold hand pull at their shoulders, rain seeming to numb their veins as they fall on their back. Ishaan faces an open palm at the bright blue flame, the darkest Iksha has ever let it grow, and soon enough jets of cool water douse the fire. The room is filled with smoke and it’s later that Iksha realizes that their lungs had begun to burn from the smell.
Iksha stares at their brother's back, gasping for air as they slowly come to their senses. Maho had always taken more from them than they’d liked to admit. Ishaan turns around, his face giving way to anxiety the moment his gaze falls on his sibling. “Iksha I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to push you—I—are you alright?”
They’re quickly pulled to their feet, and Ishaan's peppering them with worried questions but all Iksha can think about is their brother being home. Softly they pull Ishaan's hands away, enveloping him in a hug, “You’re back, you’re home.”
Ishaan hesitates, his actions stuttering to a pause at the intimacy, gingerly he returns the hug, albeit awkwardly. “Y-Yeah… I am…”
Iksha doesn’t question the wavering in his voice, doesn’t question why he hadn’t told them of his return, of why he’d come back so early. They would find out soon enough, it had been, after all, the last time they would ever see their brother for a long, long, time.

Top 10 best elves
For @khadgars-raven, our local elf lover. Okay, 10 elves which are, according to me, the best. This is going to be a lot subjective thing, though, as I prioritize maybe different things than you do. Oh, I have ran out of Top N queue, so... If you’d like to see some in a fortnight, you could suggest some.
10. Azj’Tordin - A good elf name has to be stupid to pronounce, so clearly his parents loved him. Shen’dralar are still my favorite elven faction, although you can no longer grind reputation with them. Azj’ is clearly a traumatised elf with only a little lore known, but he’s a good looking, not evil, a Shen’dralar, and loves himself his book, so clearly here he goes.
9. Altruis the Sufferrer - Hands down, a good and solid Demon Hunter even back at the Burning Crusade. He had a Netherwing friend/mount, so, like, he can’t be a bad person either. I would trust him with life. Not my life, mind you, but someone’s life for sure. It also feels good to know that Blizzard doesn’t always abandon their characters.
8. Blood-Queen Lana’thel - The Icecrown Lacrimosa. I used to play on a private WotLK server where she was famous for descending into a completely different boss battle with the Blood Prince Court if you managed to kick up and glitch a ball of blood or what was it thorough the ceiling into her room. But also, vampire Queen.
7. Asric - Alright, face it, this list is going to contain a lot of Blood Elves, because you know, it is the Blood Elves that Blizzard usually cares about and makes them interesting characters. Angry drinkinig ex-investigator who got fooled by Griftah or maybe just paid what he thought being enough at time. He ended up with Jadaar. Maybe Jadaar and he are together, maybe not, but they are a damn good duo anyway. I like Asric, although he is nothing badass, you don’t need to be a badass or epic in order to be a good and interesting character (doesn’t equal with good person)
6. Illidan Stormrage - Fiiiine, yeah, here you go. Illidan is a dumbass, but he is our dumbass, and also Taedal likes him. He is a problematic character, yeah, not everybody likes him, but he is notable and actually shows some character unlike his brother. Still, Blizzard could do much better and learn that wings and glaives don’t make you a good and interesting character, only a good poster to have above your bed. There are far more interesting (and therefore in my opinion better) characters than Illidan.
5. Voren’thal the Seer - In this trying times, we all need a dude who can see into the future. And also admit that yeah, he was really wrong, we are really sorry, A’dal, Kaelthas is a big dick, would you have us? I also like to think that as we got no update on his whereabouts he is a) still alive, b) getting along with Ishanah.
4. Lor’themar Theron - Speaking of elves, I am going to throw in the wine dad we all love, also probably the only Blood Elf who is probably a guy. A Ranger with an eyepatch and a sword. I would gladly give him a sniper rifle. If I had to choose a Warcraft character to kill me, I’d choose him, he wouldn’t make any fuzz about it. ...I admit that his HeadQuarters Verse might not entirely correspond the Warcraft canon, but then, Warcraft canon doesn’t correspond with Warcraft canon, especially when it comes to personalities, so you know.
3. Koltira Deathweaver - I admit, I like Thassarian a little better. Mainly because Koltira’s boyfriend got an actual beard and the Cult tattoos. But Koltira is also very good. Overall, in our Family Koltira is loved deeply. My mother’s DK and main is Alliance, and while doing the quests in Icecrown, she was frantically searching the Skybreaker for Koltira, because damn, Thassarian is there, his boyfriend must be too. She later found him with her Orc on the Horde ship, and she was so happy. Koltira is a very good elf.
2. Maiev Shadowsong - Look, I had a crush on her since the Burning Crusade. Not since Warcraft III, because I never got that far when I was four years old. But guys, guys... Maiev. I mean, they killed of Javert in the Les Misérables, let me have at least this one Lawful Neutral, alright? And her helmet hes special place to put her eyebrows in, which is cool.
1. Occuleth - Yeah, alright. A genius telemancer whose first reaction to a strange intruder in a workshop full of secrets that is under attack is to put them in a mana deadlock bubble. I love Occuleth, and if anything happens to him, I am going to get on the path of vengeance
Honorable Mention: Cameo Sentinel - You know her, I have used her here a few times. She is one of the Darnassian Sentinels, you know, those sentiles in Darnassus, all named Darnassian Sentinel. For such a job, this one has been thorough some shit. Also, how do you know that the Cameo Sentinel is always the same sentinel? Maybe she isn’t... I wanted to put Arathor in here to be fair, but then I realized he is a half elf and therefore doesn’t count and couldn’t make it even into honorable mentions.

Look at my boys fighting scourge! I’m so proud!
Even though the fact that all these NPCs are still here to fight scourge technically means that they’ve all just quietly kept the Argent Tournament running long past the Lich King’s defeat and even through Legion invasions and whatnot.

Listen, I just want these two to settle down in a small cottage in Mulgore or wherever with a patch of land to grow stuff on. Some of it for eating and some of it for, well, drinking.
They’re friends with the tauren at the next house over.
