Song- Boyfriend by Dove Cameron
Pairing- Natasha Trace x fem!reader
Warning(s)- None
Wordcount- 525
A/N- Just a short one shot for all of y'all and I might make these a series. @phoenixssugarbaby you might like this.
I can’t believe that I’m actually doing this.
Just over six months ago I broke up with my boyfriend of over a year, and now I’m taking engagement photos with one of the most successful CEOs on the West Coast. Well, I’m not actually engaged, just faking it so she can keep her family’s business. The only reason I’m doing this is because I’m a petty person and would like to make my ex jealous. Is it healthy? Not really?
Smoothing my outfit in the mirror, I made some slight adjustments before I heard my phone ringing.
“Hello?” I answered.
“We’re waiting in front of your apartment,” she told me.
“I’ll be down in a few,” I told her.
Grabbing my things, I rushed out of my apartment and down the stairs where I saw the SUV waiting for me. Opening the door, I slid across the seat across from her.
Natasha Trace, the most successful CEOs in all of California. We randomly met at a bar and we just drunkenly spilled our life stories. A week after meeting, she came back to the bar and proposed this idea. After spending a few weeks contracting agreements and creating our story, we’re now taking engagement photos.
“You look nice,” she complimented me.
“Thanks,” I thanked her. “You look nice also.”
“You still want to do this?” She asked.
“For our own personal vengeance, yes,” I answered.
She nodded her head and we sat in the car in silence until we reached Balboa Park. getting out of the car, Natasha led me to where the photographer was. We did our introductions and the photographer told us what the plan was.
“Where’s your ring?” The CEO whispered in my ear as we got to our fist spot.
“Oh shit,” I reached into my bag and slid the ring on my finger.
Grabbing my hand, we went to the first spot and took photos.
Not going to lie, despite us not being a couple, the photographer was convinced we were one. Even from the poses and actions they told us, we were pretty natural with them. There wasn’t any awkward tension between us. Sometimes we would crack a laugh from a cheesy joke or one liner I would say.
“Why don’t the two of you kiss?” The photographer suggested.
“There’s no need for that,” I started to deny.
“No, it’s fine,” Natasha reassured them and placed a kiss on my cheek which made me blush a little.
“Let’s try a full on kiss,” the photographer clarified.
“Are you sure you want to do this?” I asked Natasha.
“I’m sure if you’re sure,” she gently placed her hand on my cheek. “Do you trust me?”
“Well, I’ve only known you for almost two months,” I started to ramble but was cut off when Natasha placed her lips on mine.
As she kissed me slowly, her lips were nice and soft. They weren’t rough like my previous partner’s. I felt myself melt a little as she kissed me.
“So, am I better than your ex?” She smirked a little after we finished kissing.
“Way better,” I answered before kissing her again.

Parks in Los-Angeles where I could do engagements
Los Angeles is the cradle of world cinema. Who may be against holding an engagement photo shoot in places where their favourite actors and actresses spend time. Moreover, there are so many beautiful parks in the city where you can find great places for irresistible photos. And after the completion of filming, you can organize a pleasant picnic with friends and relatives.  There are really a lot of good places for photo shoots for newlyweds in Los Angeles. We decided to choose the most suitable for the engagement.
Grand Park
This is a popular holiday destination, where there are always a lot of people. If you like crowded companies, Grad Park is for you. The territory is divided into zones:
the Fountain of Arthur J. Smith. Will;
venue for performances;
shared terrace;
lawn for festive events.
You will find interesting places for good photos in each of these zones. You can bring your own food or buy it here. You can order food, organize a picnic. The park is at your disposal from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Elysian Park
It is located in the heart of the city. From here you can enjoy stunning views from Dodger Stadium to the Hollywood Hills. You can take a picture on the famous Portola Trail and next to the memorial sculpture of the park's most active defender, Grace E. Simons. Here you will find many picturesque places for filming.
Griffith Park
Perhaps this is the best place for engagement in a calm atmosphere. Griffith Park is the largest municipal park in the United States, where there are many interesting things:
wildlife;
dozens of miles for hiking and horseback riding;
excellent conditions for recreation.
In addition, there are enough family and cultural institutions where you can make interesting photos for memory.
Echo Park Lake
This 13-acre area is surrounded by another 16 acres of land, which is adapted for the rest of visitors. There are many suitable places here to take photos:
landscapes of park areas;
pedestrian bridge;
flower beds with lotuses;
statue of the "Lady of the Lake".
You have the opportunity to capture the moments of riding on a rowing boat and a water bike.
Lake Hollywood Park
Here you can enjoy beautiful nature, clean air and beautiful views far from the bustle of the city. You have fantastic views of Hollywood. Special places for barbecue have been created in the park.   Balboa Lake Park.   The main place here is Lake Balboa. It is filled with Tillman water recycled by the plant. Here you can take a picture against the backdrop of a picnic or in a rowing boat. If you are lucky enough to have an engagement in the spring, you will have the opportunity to shoot against the background of Japanese cherry blossoms.
Will Rogers State Historic Park
If you are a fan of the outstanding actor, radio host, philosopher and cowboy Will Rogers or you love the rural idyll, you have a direct road to this amazing park. Here the great actor spent his free time with his family and friends. He loved horseback riding, playing polo. You can see many things here:
a house of 31 rooms;
riding arena;
stables;
polo court;
lots of corrals;
ropes for swinging;
pastures with horses;
golf course;
countless trails.
What a rich material for a variety of photo shoots!
Woodley Park
This charming park can be found in the recreation area of Lake Balboa. There is all the rest for guests. But the biggest attraction of the park is the Japanese garden, which is considered one of the most attractive in Los Angeles. Many couples come here to create unique photos against the background of a wide variety of plants.  If you are going to celebrate a wedding or engagement, we will make your holiday unforgettable. We have experience in photo and video shooting of festive events. Get in touch with us. We will definitely find a common language.

March 30th:
Justin sits down with Complex and talks about Selena and growing up in the game:
Complex: Obviously, you and Selena are fodder for the gossip blogs everyday. How hard is it to keep your relationship private?
JB: It’s so hard, because everyone’s got a camera-phone, and now everyone wants to get their picture on the blogs. So they’ll send anything that they have to the blogs. So you don’t really get any privacy. If I want to go out to eat, if I’m in L.A., I just have to expect that there’s going to be someone there. That’s the only thing that I don’t like.
Complex: Is it tough for you guys? A lot of people like, hate it. Do you guys hate it, or is it like, “This comes with the territory, we’ve got to deal with it, it sucks?”
JB: I’m kind of both. I don’t like it, but I understand it. I’ll be covering my face or something, and the comment that pisses me off so much is, “Oh, get over it, Justin. You’re famous. People are going to take your picture. Just suck it up. You’re rich. You’re making a lot of money. Suck it up. This is one of the things that you have to do.” I’m like, “Yo I just got off an eight-hour flight. I’m tired. My eyes have bags under them. I’m not trying to take pictures.” I’m not going to come to your house, wake you up out of a deep sleep and start snapping your picture, no matter how you look right now. It doesn’t matter. When I get off a flight, I’m not trying to sit there and let them take pictures of me. I’m tired. I’m scratching my eyes. I just don’t like taking pictures in general.
Complex: There’s been high profile couples in history: Justin and Britney, Jay and Beyoncé. Jay and Beyoncé kind of kept it private. Everyone knew they were together, but they kept it quiet. Even with the kid, they kept it so under wraps. Do you learn anything from those relationships? And do you guys talk about that?
JB: Yeah. I mean, for me, it’s like, there’s no way to hide it completely, because then it would be unfair for us. Then, we’re not even able to have a relationship. It’s like, “You take this car, and I’ll take this car, and then we’ll meet up at the spot. Then, you go in this door, I’ll go in this door. We’ll end up crossing ways. You get back in this car. We’ll cross over, do a James Bond. You go through the kitchen. I’ll go through the back area. Then we’ll meet in the dressing room and see each other.” At that point, it’s like, it’s not even a relationship. You’re just hiding from everyone. That’s unfair and unhealthy, man.

Justin: Everyone has haters, so you always have to deal with the negativity and be positive about it. I don’t think it’s nice; I’d rather they be nice, but at the end of the day I don’t let it affect me.
Seventeen: You’ve planned some amazing dates for Selena - who taught you to be so romantic?
Justin: I’m just trying to make her happy, that’s all. I think it’s important to make all woman feel like they’re princesses because every girl is a princess, I’m serious.
Seventeen: Will.I.am said he thinks it’s important for people to experience heartbreak so they’ll have something to sing about. What do you think?
Justin: I haven’t gone through it so I don’t really know what it’s about. I don’t think anyone wants to have heartbreak. I haven’t been in that deep a place yet, but I’m still looking. I’m still learning every day.
Seventeen: Would you and Selena ever record music together?

"I'm such a bad girlfriend," Selena sheepishly muttered when she confused Someday for Paris.
Selena revealed that Justin is impressed with her concoction and went on to explain why his opinion carried so much weight when she was creating the scent for her perfume, not only as a fellow perfumer, but also as a guy, citing "romantic" reasons."

Selena debuts a new additional music video for Hit The Lights
Selena appears on On Air with Ryan Seacrest and opens up about her Kiss Cam at the Lakers game earlier this week, and Justin’s upcoming debut with Taylor Swift.
Asked about the Kiss Cam, Selena called it "the most humiliating thing that’s ever happened to me, probably."
“They were showing these little elderly couples, and it was so cute. Then all of a sudden we’re both looking up and we come on the screen and it’s like … it was so awkward. It was so weird. I mean you have to kiss, right?”
"They wrote a song together and it’s beautiful - it’s amazing - I don’t know if it will make the album, but if not I’m sure they’ll release it at some point, because it’s a really great record. It’s kind of like … it’s Taylor and Justin combined. So it’s a little bit of an upbeat song, but it’s very acoustic.”

April 27th:
UsWeekly releases a special edition of their magazine featuring Justin and exclusive photos/interviews titled Inside My World: Justin Bieber. He's questioned about Selena during his interview and mentions recently gifting her a diamond bracelet:
UsWeekly: At least you get quality time with Selena. What do you love about her?
Justin: I dunno! She just carries herself in a very elegant way. And my family loves her, which is usually hard because my mom’s really picky. My mom wants, you know, a good Christian girl with good manners.
UsWeekly: Do you understand girls better now?
Justin: Well, every girl is different, so they are hard to figure out. Like, the way most men work is the same. But each woman works differently. It’s like I can’t figure them out! But I do know girls like you to tell them you love them and that they’re all beautiful all the time. So I do that a lot with any girl I’m with. I tell them that as much as possible.
UsWeekly: Most romantic gift you’ve ever given?
Justin: I’m not saying to who- but I gave a girl an expensive diamond bracelet recently. It was so pretty, I knew she’d love it!
UsWeekly: Would you and Selena ever do a duet?Yeah. I think she’s very talented.
Justin: That would be very cool. We have nothing planned- but I’m not opposed to it!

May 27th:
Selena and Justin were strolling an outdoor mall in Calabasas when paparazzi began harassing them as they were trying to leave. According to witnesses (and photos taken) this photographer was so aggressive that he even blocked Justin's car, and was said to be rudely harassing Selena "about the herpes (coldsore) on her lip" while trying to capture a photo of her. After they began harassing Selena, Justin got out of his car and went to smack the camera from his hands and him and the photographer both fell off the curb.
The photographer was taken away by ambulance AND filed a police report that named Justin as the culprit. The Los Angles County Sheriff's office is investigating and say they will talk to Justin.
One of the girls who supposedly was there shared this:
"long story short; the paps were blocking his car and wouldnt move, he got mad after asking them to move, justin tried to knock their camera, the pap and justin both fell off the curb, he lost his shoe and hat while fighting him, selena and justin left and came back because selena lost her phone, and the paps would not get out of her face, and then they left and now the paps are trying to get money from the whole thing"
Another girl that was allegedly there as a witness had nearly the exact same story as above, except in addition she added the paparazzi were rudely asking Selena "about the herpes on her lip," and that's when and why Justin knocked his camera.

Detectives want to interview Justin and Selena after a photographer claims he was attacked by Justin at a Calabasas shopping mall Sunday, but authorities continue to seek additional witnesses.
In a statement released Tuesday, the Sheriff's Department said the investigation was continuing and that detectives "are planning to interview Mr. Bieber." Law enforcement sources said Selena is among the witnesses detectives would like to talk to. Detectives are investigating claims by the photographer that Justin struck him after he snapped photographs of Selena at the Commons at Calabasas Shopping Center.
The photographer complained of pain and was taken by the Los Angeles County Fire Department to a hospital, where he was treated and released, officials said. The sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the investigation was ongoing, stressed that the probe was in its early stages.

Over the mountains, across the sky
Need to see your face and need to look in your eyes
Through the storm and, through the clouds
Bumps on the road and upside down now
I know it's hard baby, to sleep at night
Don't you worry
Selena is referenced by name in the song Beauty & A Beat during Nicki Minaj's rap:

June 28th:
Justin cut short a pre-taped interview with U.S. radio show Mojo in the Morning after the host compared him to Justin Timberlake and quizzed him about a potential romance between his mother and One Direction's Harry Styles.
Thomas Carballo, the host of the show, was in the middle of a phone chat with Justin when he (rightfully so) took offence at his line of questioning - and hung up.
The 10-minute interview got off to a bad start when Carballo told Justin he thought he was Timberlake the first time he heard him.
Justin said, "That's funny because our voices sound nothing alike... Saying I sound like somebody else is definitely not a compliment."
Justin eased up when talking about his new song Maria, which was inspired by the woman who falsely claimed he was the father of her baby last year, but he lost his cool when Carballo got personal and asked if he was worried about Harry Styles falling for his mum.
The DJ said, "Do you worry about Harry around your mum, since he likes older women?"
Clearly upset, Justin then mumbled something about Carballo's mother and, as the radio presenter explained his mum was dead, Justin had already hung up the phone.
A record company representative then tried to convince the DJ that Justin's phone had cut off, explaining, "I can't get him. He's in a really s**tty area."
She later revealed Justin was "really upset" with the questions, adding, "He probably won't be calling back."

It’s November 17th, and that means it’s time to celebrate a food made of flour, water, and yeast--it’s National Homemade Bread Day! The National Homemade Bread Committee from Ann Arbor, Michigan, founded #NationalHomemadeBreadDay to encourage families to enjoy making homemade bread. This day has been celebrated since the early 1980s.
The earliest breads resemble tortillas and date back to around 8000 BCE. Now the list of breads is too abundant to even try and list. Used by nearly every culture and country, used as peace offerings, used at religious ceremonies, and even used as currency, whether your choice is flatbread or sourdough, it’s time to pull out those cookbooks and celebrate bread.
Archives Technician Tim was scrolling the National Archives Catalog and found a photograph from Record Group 181, Records of Naval Districts and Shore Establishments. This photo shows a Navy baker and assistant removing loaves of bread from the oven at the Naval Training Center, San Diego, California.

5.02.12022. I am 22 years and 8 months old (22’8”). Arrival to California.
The exact day when I left United States last time 3 years ago. Excitement about coming back to States after three years, as it already happened twice in my life? Yes. It was there. But different. My ability to seek endlessness in possibilities is weak at this point. Maybe Pandemic… or bad management of “excitements” in my life… or just growing up.
Seems like growing up makes world a smaller place.
Anyways. It happened. I am back. Holding my mother at the airport.
Real tears.
Oh…
How I missed them.
And how I missed this woman. The dearest, longest friendship. It has always been a friendship. Even if society norms of behavior in family hierarchy made my mother raise us with authority, it was just a matter of getting first life experience alone to unfold this strong connection as a friendship.
My dear Mommy…
Your energy just absorbed all the unrest and trouble from my chest, giving the feeling of safety. I feel like a proper child under loving wings of parents. Priceless feeling of being a long-awaited person in the family… feeling myself a child.
The Sun.
The caressing, warm feeling of the Bright Empress on the skin in California is augmented. So contrasty between the touch of the Sun in Munich, where it was as bright as in Southern California but still winter-cold, and Los Angeles, where it is hard to hide oneself from it, as it is tonguing all open parts of my body.
As soon as we arrive to Santa Monica Pier right from the airport, I put my thick winter shoes away. My feet are longing for direct contact with the cooling-down sand and old heavy wood of the pier.
Parents’ home. Mama’s food. Absolut delight. Hair-thin nostalgia on the rich base of events happened that day. Tiredness. It was a long day. Sleep in 3 minutes.
First outing!
San Diego. We are on the highway and still not exactly sure what to do in one of Californian hotspots. But Balboa Park received the choice of the mass in my mother’s car. Lovely large-scale place. Street-food on the central square. A decision to have lunch there gave a reminder of how big the portions of food in America are.
The pier.
Lovely to see a male couple kissing to pose for a photo under a huge statue of a sailor good-bye kissing his girlfriend Viva L’amore!
The jokes about cannabis went far enough to be open about willing to do it right now. Both for me and Mom. So I started preparing my bubbler and the flowers Sasha received as tips one day at work.
What a moment, huh? Helping my mom to light it up! Cheers and have a good trip.
The colors become more vivid… the feeling of fresh air is more intense… mimics and scenarios more sophisticated.
With happiness,
Ilyà

Mistakes & Regrets VII

Summary: When a trip to your Dad’s hometown of Hawkins goes wrong, you end up in the year 1983, and have to learn how to cope with being stuck in the past.
Pairing: Steve Harrington / Future!Reader (like, a really slow burn)
Warnings: Swearing, name calling
•••
You could feel the sunlight on your eyelids, making everything behind your eyelids appear as a dark red. But almost as soon as the sun was on your eyes, it was gone. The side of your bed dipped down when weight was added to the mattress and a gentle hand was holding your shoulders, a familiar voice coaxing you awake.
“Y/n. . . c’mon, wake up.”
Opening your eyes you could see Jonathan sitting next to you, Nancy next to him, looking down at you, holding a cardboard cup of coffee in her hands.
“Wha?” You didn’t have enough energy to pronounce your ‘T’ in the word, knowing that they understood what you were trying to say while laying down in your bed, early in the morning with your hair sprawled out around your head.
“Get up, c’mon. Get dressed.” Jonathan was being gentler than he had been the day before. Instead of barging in and making a ruckus while you were just waking up, he was being nice about it.
“Why?” You asked, leaning more into the pillow underneath your head, pulling the duvet closer to your shoulder that were exposed to the cold air.
Jonathan avoided the answer to the question. “I’ll explain in the car. C’mon, we got you coffee. Rise and shine.” With that he stood from the bed and you grumbled a bit at feeling the sunlight back on your face. The door to your room, wide open.
Nancy placed the cup on the bedside table, and she stared for a moment at something on the table by the lamp. Something you didn’t have enough effort to even look at.
You sat up, grabbing the coffee and taking an unsure sip, testing the dirty bean water to see how hot it was.
“What’s this?” Nancy asked, picking up what she’d been looking at. You turned your head, feeling your knotted hair move across your bare shoulders. She held up your long dead phone, the black screen smudged with your finger prints and a bit of dried goo by the home button.
It’s not that you couldn’t charge it, you had the charger for it. You supposed out of all of the moments you could have gone missing and end up in the past, you chose the right one, with all of your essentials being in your bag when you ran off. But charging your phone, only to see the photo your Uncle took of a place called Balboa Park in California, made you nervous. The thought of seeing photos in your camera roll of your family scared you.
“That’s uh. . .” You struggled for a few seconds for words. “My phone.” You answered.
“ There’s only one button.” Nancy observed. “Oh, sorry, four.” She corrected herself upon seeing the volume and power buttons.
“Nancy, we don’t know how future technology works.” Jonathan told her, going to the open door and closing it, returning the room to the dim lighting you usually kept it in whenever you went to bed, or wanted to lay in bed and be depressed.
Your attention turned to Jonathan as he turned back around and saw you staring at him.
“I believe you. You left this at my house.” He said reaching into his bag and pulling out your sketchbook. With everything going on, you hadn’t even noticed you’d left it at the home when you’d left. But that meant he’d had it for since before the funeral. and hadn’t mentioned it.
He flipped to a page where there were different doodles you and your Dad had done while eating pastries and drinking warm cafe beverages. He usually always got a coffee, you always got a hot cocoa when you went with him. It was tradition every Friday.
“That’s not his DnD character. It’s one of his friends.” Jonathan pointed to one figure on the paper, that was colored in with crayon, because yes, you and your father still used crayons.
“It’s Mike’s. He doesn’t know you, there’s no way you could know his character, so that means you’re not lying” Nancy spoke, placing the dead phone onto the bedside table again while you got out of bed, placing the coffee on the table, not caring that you were wearing a tank top and underwear, with no bra.
“Y/n-” Jonathan started, only to get cut off by you.
“Why would I lie? What would the benefit be for me, huh?” You demanded, walking to the dresser, pulling out a pair of pale blue jeans and pulling them on over your underwear. “Oh, yeah, I’m Y/n Byers, haha, jk, jk, just fucking with you.” You said in a mocking voice, mostly to yourself as you zipped up the jeans and grabbed your belt. “As if I’m not gonna be talking about this shit in therapy ten years from now, in- oh wait, not my year, but rather fucking 1993! Mean Girls won’t even be out yet, the fucking IPhone won’t be invented yet! I’ll have to continue going to a fucking payphone every time I wanna call someone if I’m not here!”
It was all getting on your nerves, it wasn’t very late in the morning, meaning they woke you up way before you were supposed to, and while the coffee would help, you didn’t appreciate them somehow finding the spare key you had to the room.
“Oh, and I’m gonna have to keep saying Czechoslovakia instead of the Czech Republic and Slovakia because they won’t separate for another ten fucking years!” That was directed in Jonathan and Nancy’s way, and they both blinked in surprise, staring at you as though you’d lost your mind, and if a stranger had heard you, they would think you did.
But Jonathan was the one who stuttered his way back into conversation. “Al- alright. . . Any-anything else?” He asked, holding the strap to his bag that was resting on his shoulder.
“I have plenty of shit to complain about, Jonathan. I’m choosing to not start a fight right now.”
Jonathan was stunned back into silence, watching as your demeanor was now that of a sad toddler. Your moods always fluctuated for about an hour or two after you’d woken up. Pulling the belt through your belt loops you reached into another drawer, pulling out a sweater and bra and walking to the bathroom. “Can’t even change in peace, in my own damn room.”
•••
“No! No, we’re not going off of a theory that this thing is like a Lion, Coyote, fucking Bear hybrid in behavior!” You yelled from the backseat, still holding the coffee. “It is 7:52 am, guys! I should be in bed, not yelling at you two for a stupid idea, a- a- a fucking hunch!”
Nancy turned in to face you from her seat, He blue eyes intense with determination as she stared at you. “If Will’s your dad, you want to find him, right?”
“That’s not fair-”
“If you want to make sure you’re still born, this ‘hunch’ is all we have.” Nancy shot back, silencing you as you sunk into the carseat, holding the cup closer and taking a slow sip, intentionally making the annoying slurping noise, only to be disappointed and even more annoyed when Nancy turned away and faced the windshield again.
“You’re both gonna get me killed.” You commented lazily, propping your feet up on the center console, continuing to drink your unflavored and unsweetened coffee, grimacing at the taste every time, but hoping and praying that you hadn’t built up a tolerance to caffeine.
Jonathan pulled into a spot that wasn’t ‘technically’ a parking spot, and turned off the car, turning to face you like Nancy had.
“Okay, do you- do you know of any way you could possibly get back to, you know. . . your time? I’m sorry what year?”
You stared at Jonathan for a moment, because he had such a familiar face, and yet, he felt like a stranger. “I think I’d have to go back to that place. And although I really do love being able to say things other people understand, I think I’d rather live through history than go back there.”
Your attitude changed, going from light-heartedly bitter about being woken up, and annoyed with their plan to get the monster that you called a Wendigo, to sad and down. Because it made it real.
You’d never fall asleep in the back of the car listening to your Dad and Pa playfully argue and banter while your brother blasted his music so loud you could hear it with your own headphones on.
Long days where you went to school, your brother’s orchestra performance, and then dinner would no longer be a thing. Your nights wouldn’t end with your Dad putting your music on for you. Because no matter how old you’d gotten, your Dad was still your Dad, and he’d always been there, even if it was for something as simple as turning your music on for you.
Looking down at your lip you fought against the tears, refusing to cry in front of them. That was only something you did alone.
“I’m gonna get some food.” You said quickly getting out of the car with your bag in hand. Jonathan followed suit.
“Y/n-”
“Stop.” Your voice shook as you looked at him. Holding the top of your backpack with a death grip, “You two go buy your fucking Sam and Dean Winchester bullshit, I’m gonna get something to eat. It is eight in the morning, on a Saturday! I am tired, I am hungry.” You told him. “So, I am going to go to the cafe down the street and get a muffin or a breakfast sandwich, and I will meet you back here!”
You didn’t mean to constantly be yelling at Jonathan, after all, he was one of your only uncles. But this wasn’t your uncle. He was just Jonathan Byers, whose brother was stuck in a dark and scary place, hiding like you had.
And you were just a kid. A teenage girl who didn’t know what to do. Who felt as if your world was crumbling all around you, pinning you to the ground so you couldn’t get up.
The only thing you could do right now to make anything around you seem even remotely okay, was to eat, try and pretend like you didn’t just choose your fate in the back of an old Ford while a sixteen year old version of your uncle stared at you.
So you’d gone down the street, fighting against tears until you heard people talking, verging on hushed arguing. So you looked up and saw the movie theatre sign, the letters put into place to say ‘All the Right Moves’ but right after, red spray paint saying ‘Starring Nancy The Slut Wheeler’
You knew the hand writing, with Steve having once convinced you to look over Tommy’s English paper. You’d given up barely halfway in, the spelling getting on your nerves and the grammatical errors hurting your head a bit too much. You’d told him to go to one of the tutors in the library.
Looking down the street a bit more you saw the culprits, Carol, Tommy, Nicole and of course Steve.
There wasn’t a reason in the world for this. And although you’d never been in a relationship, you knew how a boy's mind worked. Especially a boy like Steve. Who was turning out to be the biggest asshole in disguise.
The group of four slipped down into an alley, and as if on auto pilot, you followed them, now ignoring your original plan of getting something to eat.
“Steve!” You shouted when you finally reached the alleyway, watching as Tommy was taking a can of red spray paint from inside his jacket. Their attention turned to you as you made your way over the older male, who’s facial expression and body language was unreadable. “What the hell was that?” You demanded.
Tommy uncapped the can and stepped up a small set of stairs that only took him up off the ground about a foot, and started working on a cruel message on a piece of plywood.
“Y/n, just go home.” Steve said firmly when you reached him. Shaking your head you stared up at him. You didn’t know why you were angry. You had no right to be. He wasn’t your problem, and your dads always told you to ignore men and boys like Steve Harrington.
“Steve, just tell me what happened.” You urged. You shouldn’t be giving him a chance to explain himself, you could have just turned him and his friends in as the vandalizers of the theatre. You should’ve, because you should still be angry over Jonathan’s camera.
“What does it matter?” He questioned while you grabbed the sleeve to his navy blue jacket.
“It matters because that’s public humiliation, not only in general, but to the girl who I’m pretty sure you’re dating?”
Steve only huffed and pulled his arm away from you. “This is why it doesn’t matter. Cause see, you have this little soft spot Jonathan Byers, you’ll defend him no matter what I say.” He huffed, looking away from you and at the letters Tommy was writing with the spray paint.
“Steve, that’s not fair. You were being a grade A cunt when you broke Jonathan’s camera, okay? And now? You’re acting like a little bitch. Your little feelings are hurt because of something Nancy did, so you’re gonna humiliate her? Stay classy, Harrington.”
He turned his gaze back to you, glaring. Now his feelings were evident, he was angry and sad. And wouldn’t tell you why.
“Hey, L/n, wanna know something that even my little sister knows?” Tommy asked, pausing for a brief second and looking down at you, a cigarette between his lips. You quirked up an eyebrow. “Little girls should be seen and not heard.”
You scoffed a bit at Tommy’s comment, a bitter and fake grin coming across your face as you put your hands on your hips. “I wish I could say I’m surprised that you're a misogynistic piece of shit, but I’m not.” You looked back at Steve, taking a step back from the group. “God. Steve, I thought you could be a good person. But you’re the biggest asshole I’ve ever met”
You went to leave but the moment you turned around, you saw Nancy, close to angry tears as she walked down the alleyway to where you all were. You stood in place, not leaving her side, and not Jonathan’s either as he followed after Nancy.
“Aw, hey there, princess!” Carol said with feigned happiness as Nancy finally reaches her spot in front of Steve.
“Uh oh. She looks upset.” Tommy stated the obvious while you gave the couple space, leaning against a parked car and watching as Steve turned to face Nancy. As well as watching while Nancy raised a hand to slap him against the side of his face. The only causing you to flinch being the sound that the three other teens made in reaction to their friend being hit.
You’d seen worse at school before. Having watched a fight go down where a kid tried to brace his fall after being pushed, and broke the bone in his forearm. You still got shivers whenever you remembered the large bump in his skin where the bone was presing gainst.
“What is wrong with you?” Nancy inquired.
“What’s wrong with me? What’s wrong with you? I was worried about you. I can’t believe I was actually worried about you.” Steve’s voice trailed off at the end, being followed by a scoff, as if he was disappointed in himself.
“What are you talking about?” It was clear that Nancy was just as clueless as you were as to what was going on with Steve’s sudden betrayal against Nancy.
“I wouldn’t lie if I were you. You don’t want to be known as the lying slut do you?” If there was anyone at Hawkins High who you hated more than Tommy, It was Carol.
“Speak of the devil,” Tommy hopped down from the top of the small set of stairs. “Hi.” He said with a smile, putting the cigarette back in his mouth and wrapping an arm around Carol.
Turning you saw Jonathan coming closer, his presence finally being registered by the others. It finally clicked. And it seemed to click for nancy too. “You came by last night?”
“Ding! Ding! Ding! Does she get a prize?”
“Look, I don’t know what you think you saw, but it wasn’t like that.” Looking over to Jonathan he was holding out a hand for you to come over and take. You removed yourself from the situation and went over to your uncle, grabbing onto his sleeve.
Because at times, he was just the face you knew as your uncle growing up, who bought you your first camera in fifth grade, and bought you lightroom and photoshop in sixth when you were thinking about going into photography in highschool. And right now, he was that familiar face, who could see how uncomfortable you were and was offering comfort.
“What, you just let him into your room to. . .” Steve gave Jonathan a quick glance before looking back down at Nancy. “study?”
“Or for another pervy photo session?” Tommy laughed, your grip on Jonathan’s sleeve tightening.
“We were just-”
“You were just what?” You wished you could intervene, but you couldn’t. Because you didn’t know what happened last night after you left the Wheeler household. “Finish that sentence.”
You looked up at Jonathan, and saw the way he was looking at the couple. And it slowly made you realize, that this was your aunt. You’d never called her ‘Aunt Nancy’ she was always just ‘Aunt Nan’ to you, and no one ever bothered to correct you. And maybe you were looking too much into things, but she did look very similar to your aunt.
“Finish the sentence.” Steve challenged.
Nancy just took deep breaths to stay calm, while you stood and watched as Steve shook his head at her response of choosing silence. “Go to hell, Nancy.”
Jonathan stepped forward and grabbed onto Nancy’s arm and pulled her back a bit. “C’mon, Nancy. Let’s just go.”
You went to turn around but Steve began to talk again. “You know what, Byers? I’m actually kind of impressed.” Jonathan and Nancy turned away, beginning to walk to the street again, with you following after until you saw Steve give Jonathan a harsh shove to the back of the shoulder.
“I always took you for a queer, but I guess you’re just a little screw-up like your father. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah that house is full of screw-ups.”
The words were getting to you. Because that was your family. Your grandmother, your asshole for a grandfather, and your uncle. And you’d never let words get to you, but these were striking you deep, and hard. But you didn’t turn away, you just kept taking steps like Nancy and Jonathan who tried to ignore the shoving, and Harrington’s cruel words.
“You know, I guess I shouldn’t really be surprised. An bunch of screw-ups in your family.”
“Steve, walk away.” You snapped turning to him while Nancy told Jonathan to leave it alone.
“I mean, your mom. . . I’m not even surprised what happened to your brother-”
You threw the first punch, your dominant hand balling itself into a fist and colliding with Steve’s nose. And the moment you heard the thud of bones cushioned by skin hitting each other, and the deep, yet dull and constant pain in your knuckles you knew you’d made a mistake, even if it felt satisfying to hit him. Because the moment you pulled back swearing and hissing at the pain in your fist, Jonathan had followed your lead.
Jonathan’s punch had a bit more weight behind it, and made Steve grab onto a pole to regain balance. You started something, but you didn’t know what.
You screamed out at Steve to stop the moment that he tackled Jonathan to the car you’d leaned against, and so had Nancy.
When Steve had pushed Jonathan onto his back and on the ground, you felt as if the pain was your own, your spine tensing up the moment you heard the thud.
“Steve!” You yelled while Jonathan switched their positions, rolling them over so he had the better position to hit. You hated that Steve’s friends were encouraging it. Well, at least Tommy was. Carol and Nicole knew when things had to end.
It happened fast, with barely any time to process it. All you knew was that Jonathan had Steve on the ground a second time, Steve’s face bloodied and already swelling and bruising when the cop car came. Nicole and Carol running off when Tommy told them too. All you knew was that Jonathan hit a cop, and Steve and Tommy ran.

This past weekend (Thursday-Sunday) I took my very first solo trip across the country to the beautiful San Diego, California! It wasn’t just my first trip to California ever, but it was also my first flight ever! I’m from Michigan and I've lived here my whole life. I just turned 23 (Aug 21) and I’ve only ever made it to very little states near me... (Ohio, Kentucky, Chicago). All my life, all I’ve ever wanted to do was travel and visit new places and see and experience new things. My family in general are not much big travelers, so they didn’t know much about it, or have any desire to push me past the things that scared me. Well, California has always been a dream state for me to visit. I’ve always wanted to see the beautiful ocean, the palm trees, the perfect weather all year round, etc! Well after talking about “I will make it there one day” to my family about 100x a day, about two months ago, I finally decided that as a 23rd birthday gift to myself- kinda as a new start to a new year in my life, I decided to plan that trip! I don’t have many close friends in general- let alone one that would travel to Cali with me in a short amount of time. I also don’t have family who would do the same! The one fear of mine was flying there. I had never been on a plane before, and all my life that and heights have always been my biggest fear. But I thought about the fact that as the years had went on, my fear of heights weren’t as bad, and I’ve done many things that I enjoyed that I didn’t think I’d ever do. I first booked my flight and started doing LOTS of research about the best way to plan this, considering I’ll be all alone, in a new state I’ve never seen before. I knew no one there, and only had some places and things listed that I knew I wanted to see. I do have a friend who lived in San Diego for two years, before moving back to Michigan. I asked her some of her favorite places and what not to see. I managed to find a cheap hotel in the middle of The Gaslamp District, which personally was an excellent location for me to stay. It was in the perfect location to walk to many restaurants, shops, Balboa Park, Petco Park, etc. It was only a 15 minute ride to Sunset Cliffs and Ocean Beach, and the airport! I ended up Lyfting to the beach and airport each time, since it was a little more difficult to walk, but it only cost about $10-$15 each way if you chose shared ride, which personally made me feel a little more safe and comfortable. Plus if you left to one of the locations in the morning, and planned to spend the day there and come back at night, then it was cheaper than taking a few trips there and back each day. I then spent all the rest of my time walking everywhere using google maps, and yelping places nearby! Let me tell ya, after figuring all those details out, it was all so smooth and wonderful! I had an amazing time just taking as much or as little bit of time the places I wanted to go, and things I wanted to see. I made the choices for everything and didn’t have to worry about feeling like I missed out on things because someone I was with didn’t want to “go there” or “see that.” I felt like I gained an extra bit of independence and learned a whole lot. The one thing that was probably the hardest about traveling alone, was when you’d want to get a Instagram worthy picture in front of somewhere, and you had no one to take it. I learned if you look around you and look for a friendly face. Usually I’d go for young teenage like girls who are most likely very into social media, or young mom’s who are already taking the time to stop and take millions of pictures of their children. They are usually sooo nice and will say yes to taking 1 or 100 photos for you (I did so happen to find a young photographer at Ocean Beach who took over 100 pictures of me, with different angles- so that was cool: see first photo).
Now on my last full day in Cali (I had a 9am flight Sunday morning) I didn’t have a whole lot of money left so didn’t want to spend it all getting a lyft to and from the beach again, as much as I wanted to. I just wanted to see something new! Well, Friday afternoon- I was walking back from Balboa Park to my hotel in Gaslamp which was about 45 minute walk. There came a point where I ran across a street before the light turned green and then got stopped at the next crosswalk. Suddenly there was a young, attractive gentleman stopping at the crosswalk as well. He had a paramedic uniform on and a very friendly smile on his face. He then turned and asked me what I was running from. I was pretty confused by his question, where he then proceeded to explain I must not be from around there because no one runs across the street unless they’re running from something. I then explained everything. Obviously not telling too much detail or anything because I’m by myself, in a different state, and with some guy I’ve never met before. He was super nice though, and explained how he accidently got on the wrong trolley home from work (which he’s never done before) and was walking to the trolley station, just a couple blocks before Gaslamp. Then he seen me running across the street, was concerned and also knew we’d be walking awkwardly at the same pace a few blocks so thought it’d be less awkward to introduce himself instead of complete silence. We then talked for a bit. He’s very open and very funny! He was very easy to talk to, which is unusual for me who is super introverted. He then asked if he could walk with me until he gets to his destination, because it would be safer than just by ourselves. We ended up walking the 30 minutes to Gaslamp. We were so into our conversations that we both forgot about his street and we didn’t even mind it. He then asked for my Instagram and told me how happy he was he took the wrong trolley that day. I walked the rest of the way to my hotel and he left to go back to the trolley station. Now... Saturday comes and I’m standing in line at Dunkin’ Donuts, it’s not even noon yet and he messages me on Instagram, asking my plans for the day. I didn’t have any so I just told him id probably just walk around and see where it takes me. he knew that was my last day there and told me it was his only day off that week. He asked if I’d want to hangout for a bit. I was a little unsure considering I didn’t actually know him, and all my family told me not to talk or go with strangers. I decided to take the chance but still be safe with it. He ended up meeting me at the Starbucks just a four minute walk from my hotel. He met me there at 1, but was actually early. He was dressed very nice and had a huge smile when I walked up to him. He told me he had a whole day planned for us and some back-up plans if I didn’t like some of his ideas. His first was to take a trolley ride to Old Town San Diego, which I had yet to see plus I had never been on a Trolley before. I loved that Idea and we then ventured off and talked about sooo much along the way, He showed me a bunch of his favorite music, and told me about his life growing up, etc. I enjoyed every single moment of it- even the overly crowded trolley. We then arrived to Old Town, which was totally awesome! He knows so many facts about so many things, and made the history of things so entertaining! He was so comfortable to joke around with and be myself around, it was so wonderful. He also took a few pictures of me in certain spots because he knew i’d want it for Instagram later. I didn’t even have to ask him. I do regret not getting a single picture of him or with him the whole time, only because in the beginning I felt a little weird to ask him because I wasn’t sure how he felt about pictures. He bought me my very first Churro, which was delicious! We just had an amazing time together. Then around 7, we planned to go to one of his Rugby teammates party, but we chilled in the parking lot outside of Old Town to wait for the details of this party. We then had a moment of silence after laughing about something we were talking about, and kinda just stared at eachother smiling. He then kissed me, and it was almost like a “too good to be true” kinda kiss. Eventually we decided to go to his home town and the town he lives called Chula Vista. We took a couple trolleys there and made it there at 7. We walked around his city, talking about the different places and the memories he’s had there growing up. I met his best friend’s mom, who was a total sweetheart and loved me, and told me she better be seeing me again soon. I met his cousin and their roommates, and some of his dad’s co-workers at the fire station. We then made our way to downtown Chula Vista which had a bunch of taco trucks, bars, and shops. It was so cute and everyone was so nice. We stopped in his favorite bar, and he bought us both a Corona then we headed out back to the outside. We spent the last couple hours out there just talking, laughing, showing eachother music, etc. It was then midnight and I had to get back to the hotel to get ready to go to sleep for my early flight in the morning. We ended up stopping at his and his roommates house just a couple blocks down (I know that doesn’t sound safe, but I sent my aunt the address just in case) We all ended up playing video games, eating some homemade tortillas his cousin made, and just listening to music and goofing around. I honestly didn't check my phone or anything just about the whole day, because the whole day was just too amazing and fun. He then drove me back to Gaslamp around 2am (I still didn’t feel comfortable telling him my hotel so I just walked two blocks to my hotel after) but we sat in his car for a bit and just talked about how this whole meeting eachother has felt like a movie. We laughed about it, then explained how terribly sad we are to have to say goodbye already. We both teared up a little and just enjoyed our last few moments together (hopefully not for long though). I then left and so did he. We texted all night til I fell asleep. Now here I am now, writing this Monday night. I’m home now and still felling extremely sad to have left. I’m so happy I went and had the most amazing experience I’ve ever had. We have both been texting and Snapchatting all day, since. I miss him a lot, and it’s crazy saying that considering I’ve only known him a day. But there’s definitely something special about him and I definitely believe there’s something special about the way we met. I believe everything happens for a reason, and his taking the wrong trolley and getting off on that stop that day, and me running across that same street and catching his attention, was all meant to happen. That’s why I believe there’s a special reason he was put into my life, whether or not it ends up romantically, He definitely gave me the most amazing memory I’ll ever have so far. I appreciate him and his kindness, and for just being there. I find new parts of me, I never knew existed. I’ve learned new things. I know so much I want to do now. I’ve made a new friend. Plus sooo much more. California will always hold a very special place in my heart. I definitely plan to visit San Diego again very very soon! Until then... Time to save money and just reminisce through photos and memories in my head.

Story You May Have Missed
Tumblr media
Marie Hitchcock and Steve Taylor, Class of 1976
Puppeteer returns to Balboa Park after 55 years
When entertainer Steve Taylor was a kid living in San Diego’s College Heights, his bedroom wasn’t plastered with pictures of baseball and football players.
Instead, he gazed at a photo on his wall of Walt Disney, his childhood hero.
“I always wanted to work for him,” says the professional ventriloquist and magician, now 63.
Taylor’s dream briefly materialized when he appeared in a short two-week run of a “talented teens” variety show on a Tomorrowland stage in Disneyland.
But Taylor was discovered as a 9-year-old in 1967 and mentored by San Diego’s legendary puppet lady, Marie Hitchcock, who passed away in 1994.
The budding ventriloquist and magician had been performing around San Diego for a year when he attended one of Hitchcock’s marionette shows at the downtown public library. Moments after a children’s librarian introduced them, Hitchcock asked him to help at her weekend performances at the Balboa Park puppet theater.
For the next five years, he faithfully worked as her part-time apprentice, carefully taking her marionettes out of their bags, organizing them, straightening the strings and properly packing them away.
She sometimes invited him to perform one of his magic tricks during her show, and he occasionally entertained from behind the scenery with a hand puppet while kids waited for a performance to open.
This weekend, March 25-27, Taylor is returning to the Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theater in Balboa Park. This time, it will be all his show and his first time back on the theater stage in 46 years.
He describes his appearance as his tribute to Hitchcock and her faith in him when he was so young. “I wouldn’t be where I am today without her training and encouragement in those early years.”
She taught him to add weights to a puppet’s feet so it would look like it was walking, not floating. She instructed him to make sure a puppet faces the kids in the audience to appear alive and engaging with them.
She shared the Golden Rule of puppetry: “You have to believe they’re alive or your audience won’t believe it.”
Taylor has created a menagerie of three ventriloquist dummies — Irishman Rudy O’Riley, Pokey the Opossum and Alli the Croc.
“When you add a character, you have to really like him, or the audience won’t like him. When you like him, a personality and a voice come easily. It’s almost like love at first sight.”
For instance, a wooden puppet craftsman in Colorado sent him pictures of 12 characters he had made. Only one “spoke” to Taylor. Unfortunately, that turned out to be the only puppet already sold, so Taylor walked away. A week later, the craftsman called to say the other buyer had backed out. Thus, Rudy became a member of Taylor’s family.
The secret to being a ventriloquist, Taylor confides, is not throwing your voice or keeping your lips from moving. It’s creating an illusion of life with an inanimate object, so viewers aren’t even looking at your lips.
Taylor prides himself in presenting a family friendly show with layers of humor that can anyone from age 3 to 103. “Something may go over the kids’ heads, but the adults will laugh at it,” he says.
But Taylor is not just a ventriloquist and puppeteer. He has been doing magic tricks since he was 5. At age 8 he started performing at birthday parties and Scout gatherings. He set himself apart from other ventriloquists by adding magic to his shows. The challenge, he says, is finding tricks that can be done with one hand while the other operates the dummy.
He and Rudy have performed at the Magic Castle in Hollywood. Taylor and Pokey the Opossum did an opening greeting for “America’s Got Talent” when the show visited Tacoma, Wash., and he has taken his show on Comedy Central.
Nevertheless, he backed into this career. Taylor’s dream was being a film editor in Hollywood. That’s exactly what he did for 10 years after earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in cinema and performing arts at the University of Southern California.
He helped with film editing on such shows as “Designing Women,” “Fantasy Island,” “Hart to Hart” and “T.J. Hooker” — until the writers’ strike knocked him out of a job in 1988.
That’s when he created Steve Taylor Productions and took his ventriloquist and magic show on the road. Little has changed over the years except adaptation to political correctness as time has passed.
“Rudy used to flirt with the girls. He doesn’t any longer,” Taylor says.
Now the puppeteer has come full circle back to the stage where he started as an apprentice 55 years ago.
He still has a couple of puppets that Marie Hitchcock gave him. “It’s a magical place, and so much magic happened there.”
Taylor also has lived up to his childhood goal of emulating Walt Disney by creating entertainment the entire audience can enjoy. “Puppetry and ventriloquism are just a means to that end,” he says. *Reposted column from the UT by Diane Bell, March 22, 2022
