7 Examples of Business Continuity Plans
Tumblr media
In the dynamic landscape of today's business environment, disruptions are inevitable. From natural disasters to cyberattacks, unforeseen events can significantly impact operations and jeopardize the continuity of businesses. Therefore, having a robust business continuity plan (BCP) is crucial for organizations to mitigate risks and ensure they can continue operating smoothly during times of crisis. Here are seven concrete examples of business continuity plans that every company should consider implementing:
Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP): A disaster recovery plan focuses on restoring IT infrastructure and data in the event of a catastrophic event such as a natural disaster, cyberattack, or equipment failure. It outlines procedures for data backup, system restoration, and alternative communication methods to minimize downtime and maintain essential functions.
Crisis Communication Plan: Effective communication is essential during a crisis to keep employees, customers, stakeholders, and the public informed and reassured. A crisis communication plan outlines protocols for disseminating accurate information, coordinating with media outlets, and managing public relations to protect the company's reputation.
Remote Work Strategy: With the increasing prevalence of remote work, especially in light of recent global events, having a remote work strategy is essential for maintaining productivity during disruptions. This plan includes provisions for remote access to essential systems, secure communication channels, and guidelines for employees to work efficiently from remote locations.
Supply Chain Continuity Plan: Businesses rely on intricate supply chains to procure raw materials, components, and finished products. A supply chain continuity plan identifies vulnerabilities in the supply chain, establishes alternative suppliers, and implements measures to ensure a seamless flow of goods and services, even in the face of disruptions such as supplier bankruptcies or geopolitical conflicts.
Business Resumption Plan: A business resumption plan outlines steps to resume operations after a disruption, ensuring a swift return to normalcy. This plan includes procedures for assessing damage, prioritizing critical activities, mobilizing resources, and gradually restoring full functionality while minimizing financial losses and reputational damage.
Cybersecurity Incident Response Plan: In today's digital age, cyberattacks pose a significant threat to businesses of all sizes. A cybersecurity incident response plan defines protocols for detecting, containing, and mitigating cybersecurity threats such as malware infections, data breaches, or ransomware attacks. It includes steps for incident assessment, communication with stakeholders, and recovery of systems and data.
Employee Safety and Well-being Plan: The safety and well-being of employees are paramount during any crisis. An employee safety and well-being plan outlines measures to ensure the physical and mental health of employees during emergencies, such as evacuation procedures, first aid training, employee assistance programs, and policies for remote work or flexible scheduling.
Implementing these business continuity plans requires careful planning, coordination, and regular testing to ensure effectiveness. While the specific details of each plan may vary depending on the nature of the business and its unique risks, having these frameworks in place can significantly enhance an organization's resilience and ability to navigate disruptions successfully.
In conclusion, business continuity planning is not just a best practice; it is a critical component of modern business strategy. By proactively preparing for potential disruptions and implementing comprehensive business continuity plans, companies can safeguard their operations, protect their stakeholders, and maintain their competitive edge in an increasingly volatile world.

6 Key Components of an Effective Business Continuity Plan
Tumblr media
Business continuity planning is a proactive strategy to ensure the uninterrupted flow of essential functions during and after a disaster, whether a natural calamity, a cyberattack, or any unforeseen event that might disrupt business operations. A solid plan minimizes the downtime and the financial implications of these events. In this blog, we'll break down the six pivotal components of a formidable business continuity plan and discuss the paramount importance of having one in place.
Why You Should Have a Business Continuity Plan
Mitigate Financial Losses: Downtime can cost businesses significantly, especially if crucial operations halt. A continuity plan helps reduce these losses by ensuring a quick return to business as usual.
Protect Business Reputation: Disruptions can erode trust among clients and stakeholders. A BCP demonstrates proactiveness, commitment, and professionalism, maintaining your business's credibility.
Enhance Decision-Making: In times of crisis, having a predefined plan eradicates
guesswork, ensuring that decisions are timely, informed, and efficient.
Employee Confidence: Employees are more likely to stay calm and focused when they know there's a plan. It ensures everyone knows their role and responsibilities during a disruption, reducing panic and confusion.
Legal and Regulatory Compliance: Some industries require businesses to have a continuity plan. Even if not mandated, a BCP can help avoid potential legal consequences resulting from disruptions.
Some Components that a business continuity plan needs
1. Risk Assessment and Analysis
Before creating a continuity plan, it's essential to understand the potential threats your business might face, including:
Identifying all possible risks, from natural disasters to technological issues.
Assessing the probability and impact of these threats.
Prioritizing them based on their potential severity and the business's vulnerability.
2. Business Impact Analysis (BIA)
This step is about gauging the potential consequences of a disruption. A BIA helps:
Determine the most crucial business functions and processes.
Estimate the downtime for each role.
Calculate the potential financial and non-financial impacts of each disruption.
3. Recovery Strategies
Once you understand the risks and impacts, it's time to devise strategies to recover from potential disruptions. Consider:
Alternative business locations if the primary site becomes unusable.
Backup systems and data storage to recover lost data.
Resources like equipment, staff, and technology are needed to resume operations.
4. Communication and Crisis Management
Clear and timely communication is crucial during a crisis. Your plan should include:
Pre-determined communication channels to inform stakeholders.
A designated crisis management team to handle communications.
Guidelines for what needs to be communicated, to whom, and when.
5. Training and Testing
A plan is only as good as its implementation. Regular training ensures:
All employees are familiar with the plan and their roles in it.
Regular drills and simulations to test the plan's effectiveness and find areas for improvement.
6. Review and Update
The business environment is dynamic, and so are the risks. It's vital to:
Regularly review and update the plan to address changes in your business, background, or any new potential threats.
Incorporate feedback from training sessions and real-life incidents to refine the procedure.
Conclusion
Business continuity planning equips organizations to handle disruptions, from natural disasters to cyber threats proactively. A strong continuity plan is critical for long-term business resilience by ensuring uninterrupted essential operations and reducing financial risks. For companies seeking sustained success, being prepared isn't just recommended—it's vital.

What is a Business Continuity Plan and How Does It Work?
Introduction to Business Continuity Plan A Business Continuity Plan (BCP) is a methodology to prevent and recover systems in the event of a disruption. Its goal is to ensure safe operations before, during, and after the execution of the recovery disaster. Also, it prepares and handles situations outside normal operations. BCP is also beneficial for a company to analyze and mitigate risks…

Four Essential Steps for a Successful Business Continuity Plan
Developing, implementing, and maintaining a good Business Continuity Management (BCM) program demands meticulous documentation, dedication, and discipline. It’s a time-consuming process that will only succeed if businesses have the right people on board and the right resources to create, implement, and audit it.
Initiation and Management of Program
Businesses must first determine the need for a BCM program and then identify the program components, which include everything from identifying risks and vulnerabilities to developing resilience strategies and responding, restoring, and recovering from disasters.
Tumblr media
Recognize the Risks to the Business
Companies must undertake a Business Impact Analysis (BIA) after assembling their Business Continuity Management team. This type of assessment will aid in the identification of specific threats to financial performance, supply chains, operations, and employees. When identifying threats, it can act as a starting point.
Implement Recovery Plans
Without a BCP in place, it can be difficult to get back on track after a calamity happens and financial losses begin to mount. As they debate possibilities with their team, leaders should examine the following questions: Do they have a plan in place to get sales, HR, manufacturing, and support staff back to work after a disaster so that they can continue operating their business?
Exercise, Audit, and Maintenance of a Business Continuity Plan
Establishing an exercise, maintenance, testing, and audit program is critical. A Business Continuity Management (BCM) program must follow a regular exercise plan to develop confidence in a predictable and repeatable performance of recovery actions across the company in order to remain effective. Fluent Freshman - Part 23
PREVIOUS
There were a few reasons that Andrew and Neil could not get past reception to go see FF or get updates on his current condition.
The first reason was that visiting hours were long over by the time they had arrived a little after midnight.
The second reason was that hospitals, in general, dont just give out information on their patients to any random person that walks in and asks for an update on their condition. They are ESPECIALLY hesitant to give out updates on patients when the people who are asking can’t give you anything other than a first name, general description, and the reason that the patient is in the hospital.
Somehow “Completely average looking guy with the last name Smith who was stabbed in the stomach” is not enough for the receptionist to go off of.
“There are multiple people here that fit that description. I would need at least a first and last name before I could even begin to start seeing if you were someone who we even could give updates to. No, I will not continue to play your fun little game of guess the first name.” She says when Andrew opens his mouth to start listing off names alphabetically again.
So now Andrew and Neil found themselves under the watchful eye of a security guard as they sat in the back corner of the front reception area.
“I can’t believe we still don’t know what Smith’s first name is.” Neil says his face is buried in his hands as he and Andrew sit in the uncomfortable chairs trying to figure out where to go from here.
“I think she knows exactly who we want to see.” Andrew scowls towards the receptionist who, long used to the ire of the public, pays him no mind. Andrew just refused to believe that there were that many brown haired, brown eyed, average height and weight guys who had suffered a stab wound to the stomach that would have been admitted in the last two hours.
“I just hope they actually are looking after him and that no one went and forgot about him in an hallway somewhere.” Neil says hands sliding up into his hair to grip.
“That wouldn’t happen.” Andrew dismisses despite knowing that Wymack had ABSOLUTELY forgotten FF at a stadium once during the period where FF had been low presence to keep his family from bothering him.
The U-turn he had pulled had definitely been illegal when FF called and asked where the bus was when they had been on the road for five minutes. Wymack had felt terrible about it but FF had just seemed relieved that the bus had come back for him.
Wymack.
Andrew pulls out his phone and dials a familiar number. Wymack, reliable as always, picks up on the fourth ring with the sound of cursing as he got the phone up to his ear. “What.” He asks and Andrew can hear the sounds of driving and Kevin’s infamously train-like snoring in the background.
“What’s Smith first name. You know it.” Andrew demands.
“Classified.” Wymack clips back immediately.
“I need to know it so that we can get updates.” Andrew hisses.
“He isn’t interested in people knowing it and you wouldn’t be able to get updates anyways.” Wymack dismisses.
“We want to be able to head back to see him.” Neil tries.
“Visiting hours are long over Josten. You know that I’m not settling that bet that you little fuckers have floating around about this.” Wymack responds back.
Andrew grits his teeth and then forces himself to relax his jaw, “It’s not about the bet.” Andrew shuts his eyes in irritation.
That stupid bet.
The betting culture within the Palmetto State Foxes Exy team that Reynold’s had cultivated held strong even after her graduation with the remaining Foxes. The Bet had started when one of the other freshmen had mentioned that it was funny that FF went around like Cher or Madonna. The realization that none of them knew FF’s first name was one that had them placing bets on a multitude of things. Things like: “Do you wanna bet it’s a super normal boring name?”, “Do you wanna bet that it’s a weird foreign name?”, and “Is FF intentionally not giving it out to people or since he goes by his last name normally he has no idea that anything is amiss?” Had lower pools since you were betting on a spectrum. The bet with the highest pool is: “What is FF’s first name”.
Wymack had categorically refused to answer it and all other attempts to discover FF’s first name had been met with frustration. There was a solemn agreement that no one could just go and outright ask him since that would ruin all of the fun. Andrew had agreed to not ask when the team had collectively filled his freezer with ice cream cake and he was a man of his word.
The general belief (after the revelation of his major and the number of languages FF spoke) was that FF’s name was just not easy to pronounce for English speakers.
Andrew hadn’t participated but he know that the Foxes do have a running list of names they know it’s not. (Greg, Will, Smith (again), Matt, Kevin, Neil, Andrew, Aaron, Nathaniel, Jack, Beyonce (Sheena’s drunken guess), Nicholas, John, Fred, Garfield, Frank, Alfred, Augustus, Adam, etc. (Andrew had been trying to guess with the receptionist for a while))
“You’re coming here aren’t you? We can get updates when you get them.” Neil says.
“He’s in emergency surgery right now and will remain there for the next few hours most likely. There’s not going to be any updates hopefully.” Wymack says with a sigh loud enough that they can hear it over Kevin’s snoring.
“Surgery? He needs surgery?” Neil asks sounding surprised s if FF hadn’t been stabbed to the hilt into his stomach with one of Andrew’s knives. He’s about to give Neil some shit for the question before remembering that if there was any person who would think that a stab wound to the stomach wouldn’t necessitate surgery it would be Neil “I’m Fine” Josten.
“Yes Josten, he needs surgery. They have to stitch up his stomach and the surgeons are also going to be dealing with some of the ulcers that were ruptured by the knife.” Wymack explains likely coming to the same conclusion that Andrew had on Neil’s stupid question. “They were a bit worried about him bleeding out but he stabilized before the surgery.” Wymack sighs.
“I’m going the hospital since I’m Smith’s medical proxy. If anything goes wrong with the surgery I want to be there so I can make an informed decision on his care.” Wymack says and… Andrew figured there’d be surgery but to hear it and the possibility that something could go wrong, that the last thing FF had said to him had been something non-sensical about “Gracie Hart wouldn’t have gotten stabbed. I’m Cheryl at best.”as he’d started succumbing to all the blood loss. “If you could stick around long enough for me to drop Kevin off with you I would appreciate it.” Wymack says.
“What if he needs a blood transfusion?” Andrew says.
“Smith is AB-, it’s the second easiest blood type to transfuse into. Go home Andrew.” Wymack repeats.
Andrew works his jaw irritated that there didn’t seem to be a path to getting his way.
“We’ll stay here until you get here.” Andrew agrees, “But you’ll get an update before we leave.” He adds.
Wymack sighs, “Fair enough.” He says before hanging up.
It’s 45 minutes of waiting and tossing a few more name possibilities at the receptionist who seems more amused than anything at their continued attempts to guess their friend’s first name (Neil goes through the entire list of names that he’s gone by and none of them get the thumbs up).
Wymack comes through the doors with a half awake Kevin Day following his steps. “I have another favor to ask you.” Wymack says instead of any form of greeting.
“I’m not going to leave Kevin in the car overnight again. It was just that one time.” Andrew says with a roll of his eyes and honestly he’d been punished enough listening to Kevin bitch, moan, and sneeze for the following week while talking about all the supplements he was taking.
“Not that,” Wymack pauses, “I have two favors to ask you. First don’t do that. Second, would you be able to pick up Smith’s grandma from the airport tomorrow?” He asks.
Andrew blinks.
“She’s coming here?” He asks.
“I updated her on my way here. She booked a flight and will be arriving around noon tomorrow.” Wymack says and Andrew doesn’t know why he’s confused by this. FF’s grandma got him two still warm pies to cheer him up on Thanksgiving.
He’d stabbed that woman’s grandson.
“I’ll pick her up.” He agrees.

by this point, my frustration is justified--if i have:
1) already mentioned in multiple replies that a fic is on hiatus
2) bolded its status and my reasons in the end note
3) added the status and a warning that i will delete comments of the type in my summary
why do i still get asked whether or not i'll ever update again? and that's all they have to say?
becoming increasingly concerned there's a subset of bil readers that don't know how to read or pay attention in a hobby that requires reading comprehension and an attention span

“That’s… my shirt,” she said dumbly.
Dame ran her fingers along the lightly frayed hem of the shirt, a concert shirt she had bought years and years ago for a band she couldn’t even remember. “Yeah, I borrowed it. I hope you don’t mind.”

Fe Aspec Week Day 7: Free Day -- Legacy
This one took me forever to settle on something I liked -- I was toying around with some ideas about Lukas's epilogue text and the idea of legacy, as well as a bit of meta impact. A few scrapped drawings and 1k words later, I've got this 😂
As always, thank you so much for running this week!! 💜💚 I always have so much fun with the pieces, (it's been the only event week that I can regularly commit to because I always have a blast haha!) and seeing others' amazing work! It's been such a great time :D
Forsyth stepped back from his canvas. He wiped hair from his forehead, hoping he wasn’t smearing any paint there. He studied his work, then his model, then his work once more. He gave a decisive nod.
“Well. I tried.”
Python choked back a laugh. “That’s not quite the confidence you want to hear from your portrait painter, you know.” He walked up to the canvas, but Forsyth was quick to angle it away from him.
“Oh, hush, I wasn’t even painting you! I’ll have you know, it was rather difficult trying to paint something without having it in front of me.”
“What are you talkin’ about, Luke was sitting right there for hours!”
At his mention, Lukas perked up. He’d been lounging in front of Forsyth, his eyes lowered to sift through a pile of student writings. He’d been scribbling notes in the margins, absentmindedly angling his face this way and that when Forsyth requested.
“And I am incredibly grateful for his presence. However, I did not want to capture him looking like a sleep-deprived schoolteacher –”
“– but that’s exactly what he is –”
“– so I attempted to recreate my personal favorite expression of his.”
Lukas smiled. “Oh? And what would that be?” He placed the papers aside, giving Forsyth his full attention. Lukas nodded to the canvas, encouraging him to reveal it.
“Well… you see… the point of this whole project…”
Forsyth searched for the right words. The point of the whole project actually struck him months ago, back at Rigel Castle.
He and Python had sat for their own portraits, which would later be hung in the great hall to commemorate members of the Brotherhood. Forsyth could have cried seeing he and Python’s likenesses full of dignity and chivalry. The whole time, though, he couldn’t shake the feeling of injustice that boiled in his stomach: Lukas would get nothing.
Sure, his name would appear in the records as the royal family’s right-hand advisor during and after war, but his image would disappear entirely. He left the Brotherhood to fulfill his dreams long before the kingdom was stable enough to commission a professional painter. With his brother furthering the bloodline and becoming the major focus of the household, Lukas was relieved of all marriage obligations – and opportunities for a couple’s portrait. Paintings alongside any future children were out of the question, as well.
“It’s terribly unfair!” Forsyth had cried. “Are war and romance the only means to remember a man? Is he any less worthy because he will never marry?”
“You’re overthinking things, Fors.” Python had hardly spared him a glance. “Plenty of good people don’t get their paintings done.”
“And that is just as much an outrage!”
He brought his concerns to Lukas, who seemed at peace with the situation, as Python was. The pair’s disinterest only caused Forsyth more urgency. After a bit of deliberation, he knew there was only one path forward.
“I shall take this into my own hands.”
They would find out he meant this very literally. He showed up at Lukas’ schoolhouse with various brushes clutched in his hands, an apron thrown over his chest. He pulled up a nearby seat, propped up an easel, and got right to it. It became their routine: once classes dismissed for the day, Lukas would busy himself with reading through his school materials, and Forsyth would busy himself with work of his own.
He’d done his research beforehand, but had never actually painted anyone’s portrait. He looked again at the finished product.
“I was hoping to capture… er… the point of this work is to commemorate your independent situation… and thus… I remembered the days after you first told me, you were the happiest I’d ever seen you. The face is still a rare one, but after that night, I’ve seen that side of you more and more. I just thought…”
He gave an audible huff. Screw it.
He turned the canvas around.
“I am sorry. Perhaps I should have gone with a more dignified look, like the other knights’ portraits. I am aware that I have yet to accomplish a professional’s level of –”
“It’s perfect.”
Forsyth blinked.
Lukas stared at the canvas. He appeared to be working out his next words. Meanwhile, Python let out a long whistle. “Lookin’ good! Not too shabby, for your first masterpiece.”
“‘Not too shabby’ is an understatement.” Lukas stepped closer to the piece, his voice full of warmth. “Thank you, friend.”
In the painting, Lukas wasn’t sitting straight-backed and stiff; it was focused on his bust, leaning a bit in relaxed movement. He wore casual clothes, none of his usual professional garments. He smiled. His mouth was a little lopsided, a little odd, pinching his eyes a bit, showing some teeth, but not all – and it was a perfect replication. This was Lukas’s true smile, not the one he put up for others to view.
Python gave him a poke. “So, now what? Where are we gonna do with it? We can’t just smuggle it into the royal gallery. And I don’t think Lukas is the kind of guy who wants to stare at it here in the school all the time.”
“Well, I… er….”
“I mean, we can certainly just go and hang it up somewhere around town, but I don’t think he’s looking for that, either.”
“I just thought he’d want it! For his legacy!” Forsyth huffed. His eyes shone with The kind of determination that the others knew not to overstep on. There was no stopping him now. “It’s important that he’s remembered through the ages! I think of all the heroes that inspired me – the way I gazed at their images in my fathers’ textbooks, gaining hope from their stories…”
“You’re hoping that Lukas ends up in some dusty textbook someday?”
“Indeed!” He beamed, not realizing that Python didn’t see it as a grand victory. “Just imagine: centuries from now, some harrowed scholar, crushed under familiar struggles. They get a hold of a secondhand book, and suddenly, bam!” He gestured to the painting. “They look upon his face and see that everything will be alright. They’ll think, ‘if Sir Lukas of Valentia can do it, and smile so purely at the end of it all, surely I can too!’”
He clenched his fists, caught up in his own excitement. His gaze was somewhere faraway, imagining this incredible future.
Python scoffed.
“It sounds like they’re just as much of a hopelessly sentimental dreamer as you are. They’ll probably think, ‘gods, now I need to study up on this guy too?”
“Python…”
“Or, if they’re like me, maybe they’ll think, ‘mmm, that is one fiiine –”
“Python!”
“Alright, alright. I think it’s a real nice gesture, Fors.”
Lukas had been quietly taking everything in for a while. Now he spoke. “I truly believe this is perfect. As you said – this is an expression only saved for rare occasions. It’s difficult for me to smile so genuinely. I… I never really see it myself.”
He placed a hand on Forsyth’s shoulder. “We can hope it reaches others someday, but regardless, I am grateful to have seen it right now. It inspires me about the future. I… I cannot thank you enough.”

Excerpt: Business is Only Theatre
Little Jinx receives an acting lesson.
From 'like leaves of a lotus,' a oneshot following Silco and Jinx on a Topside errand run. Full story on AO3.
Tumblr media
They're buzzed through the gates in a flourish of blue light. He taps the corner of his paperwork along the desk, once, twice. Scrapes it away—thinking, thinking—steps echoing over the cold marble. The burly guard seated at the gate's edge doesn't give them a passing glance, tension curling through his shoulders.
They walk on. Their reflection glints in the wide, gold-paned doors of the ground floor elevator bay. She peeks up at him through her hair. "You didn't make an appointment," she whispers, punching her finger into the button.
"The boy didn't know that," Silco whispers back. His eyes are faraway.
The sterility of the building's dry air heightens the sooty-sweet of the Lanes that sticks to his clothes, the hint of cigar smoke that sits beneath it, the lingering touch of his cologne. It's comforting to her, in this awful space. She clings to the familiarity of it, in the whirring of the elevator: in the white of the halls: through each tick-tack of their shoes across too-clean marble.
They fall still in the threshold of an open door, three rooms down from a sharp corner and a statue depicting the glory of their squashed rebellion—bridge, fire, death, hell—that makes her skin crawl. Inside, a man slumps over a mine of zoning requests in a disorganized room, pen scribbling. It smells of stale cigarettes and antiseptic.
"Marcus." Silco's voice is a satin-cloaked knife.
Their pocketed enforcer flinches; spits, "What—what are you doing here?" with a baffled stare.
Silco steps into the room. Slow, half-minded. She scuttles in behind him.
For a moment, silence clots every breath, sucking out the oxygen by fractions. His fingers tap against the folder of paperwork at his back. "Shut the door, Jinx," he says lowly.
Marcus shoots her a look that stabs with daggered disdain. Any threat in it falls flat. She's faced down too many of those in her short lifetime to care. She glares right back; knocks the door shut behind her with a shove of her foot.
The clap of its hinges echoes. Another breath. The line of Silco's back is still. The silence of the room changes the air: changes him—and though there is nothing noticeable that shifts in the way he carries himself, his presence plummets, like a toxin slow-released.
"You're three days late."
Marcus fumbles, splutters. "I've—I had other commitments."
"Other commitments," Silco echoes, mulled over like a twisting dagger. "Interesting." There's resentment, fear, in Marcus's eyes. "I bought you two weeks," Silco rumbles on, stepping closer, and she flattens herself against the door: watches, in morbid fascination, where Marcus leans back in his seat: squeezes his palm around his pen, with a tense breath. "Are you asking for another?"
"No."
"No?" The repetition boils, like burnt sugar.
Marcus hisses through his teeth. "I'll have it, first thing in the morning."
Silence, for a long moment. She can't imagine what look has passed between them. Something has paled the warmth of Marcus's skin, his eyes frozen upward, a rabbit before a wolf. Silco slips the folder from behind him: tosses it heavily onto the mountain of files already littering the gloss of his desk. "Hudge, Lanceister, and Putnel," he says calmly. "As requested."
Three new-acquired outputs, bought off from the mine operators and a port base down South. She'd seen him pen in profits with enough figures to make her head swim.
A snarl carves minutely through Marcus's mouth, there and gone again. His fingers twist over his pen. His eyes cut up again, a hiss of static.
"First thing in the morning," Silco leaves him with, the water's depths in his voice, "or Sevika will be retrieving it, herself."
The shaky nod given to him is ignored.
Silco turns, back to her—fire, fury, murder in his eye—to the door she quickly pulls creaking open—and they are leaving, before her mind can catch up with the rush of it. She can't remember which turn they took to find Marcus's office. A pen cracks hard to the floor, somewhere behind them. His hand has found the back of her shoulder: steady, guiding.
The elevator is too quiet.
She comes back to herself, gradually, with the soft droning of the cables above them. Lifts a quiet glance towards him, swallows. His brow is furrowed: wrath in his tealish eye, where she can catch sight of it, but simmering down, simmering down; the claw-tipped shadow of his wings tucking back into their chrysalis, unseen: the venom on his tongue fading.
It fascinates her, how quickly he can don those pieces of himself, when the time calls for it. Terrifies her. And, in some small way, turns her envious.
(No, you can't control what they think of you. But you can command it.)
She reaches up for his hand, squeezes it slow in her skinny fingers. He squeezes them back, gently.
(Become what they fear.)
She stares hard at the elevator grates as the doors slink open, at the seamless grouting of the marble as they walk the twenty-two steps that stretch between them and the front entry. The guards and attendants leer as they leave.
Outside, back in the blinding winter sun, the bustle of the busy streets, the strangely clean air, she sucks in a breath for the first time. It's as though a stone has lifted from her chest.
They stand in the cool breeze, for a moment. "Are you alright?" he asks quietly.
Her fingers stutter beneath the loose cradle of his own. "I'm—yeah. I'm fine." She frowns. "I'm fine." A million thoughts simmer freely in her, now that they're out of that horrible place—now that she can think. She presses her thumb into his. "How do you do that?"
He seems perplexed, by that. "Do what?"
"I don't know, you—" She waves her hand, the words struggling to come to her. "You just—you change."
"Ah." He studies the treeline far beyond them: between the towering old buildings, the blue-gray sun. "The world's a stage, little one," he says. "Business is only theatre." He turns a wry glance down at her. "You learn which costumes to put on, over time."

P.S.A.: JUNYA IKEDA {JOU'S Tri ~ Kizuna ~ The Beginning seiyuu} IS OK!!!
Tumblr media
{Support Ikeda-san directly here and here!!!}
[Regarding THIS Situation]
Regardless of current status, Ikeda-san was still asking if any fans would like to support to please send messages through Junya's fan mail address. You can also reply directly on the posts, but the word limit may remain. Ikeda-san said writing in any language was fine! Remember when sending mail internationally you will need an international stamp if outside the country! For more info including on the address formatting, please see the link to an earlier post I made above!
TW: In the original letter, Junya was describing having chronic (clinical) depression and discussing suicidal ideation, and was in a clear potential crisis mode situation.
It should be noted Junya's birthday is Oct. 27, and "The Beginning" is also dropping Oct. 27th, though Junya did NOT name the series in Junya's tweet, So let's hope Junya wasn't making reference to specifically THIS series, and keep hoping for Junya's CONTINUED safety until then!!!
