PART 27
of the dfk audiobook translation
@cnka
Narrator (Nichtraucher): Frau Kreuzkamm, Justus Bökh and I still didn’t know if the whole thing with the play had found a happy ending.
Justus sits down next to Direktorin Kreuzkamm and shakes her hand. Robert walks through the rows of seats and spots Justus. They look at each other.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Narrator (audiobook): But first, it’s the turn for Theo and his string players.
Cue off-key violin playing and piano music.
Tumblr media
Narrator (Nichtraucher): The quintet wasn’t even as bad as the kids had announced.
Applause
Cheers as Direktorin Kreuzkamm enters the stage.
Tumblr media
Narrator (Nichtraucher): Frau Kreuzkamm held a confusing speech about the past school year.
Direktorin Kreuzkamm: „Dear Kikis. Dear Kirchbergers. Kids, what a lovely year with you all. And so many highlights!“
Loud laughter erupts from the crowd.
Narrator (Nichtraucher): …in which she… mixed up her presentation.
Direktorin Kreuzkamm confusedly laughs along. She turns around to look at the pictures she’s projecting on the wall.
Tumblr media
Narrator (audiobook): Because instead of the school photos, Frau Kreuzkamm presented vacation snapshots in which she’s kissing a plastic flamingo to the audience.
Direktorin Kreuzkamm: „So, we’ll have cake now.“
Tumblr media
Narrator (Nichtraucher): As she wanted to open the buffet, Martina, Jo and Matze stormed the stage.
Tumblr media
Martina, through the speaker: „We have another thing prepared. A play.“ Jo: „It was supposed to be a movie, but we had a… technical glitch.“
The Externs make knowing faces.
Tumblr media
Matze: „Ladies and gentlemen! Look forward to the 'flying classroom'!“
Tumblr media
Narrator (audiobook): That’s also the cue for the Externs around Ruda, who are sitting in the front row. They jump up and run behind the stage.
Applause. Bökh says: "Wow!" He and Robert share a look.
Tumblr media
Narrator (audiobook): Herr Bökh whispers something to Frau Kreuzkamm.
Tumblr media
Direktorin Kreuzkamm: „Did you know that?!“ Bökh: „No, I knew nothing! Did you?“ Direktorin Kreuzkamm: „No!“
Narrator (audiobook): The curtain opens… and our three step onto the stage as astronauts. Other kids in the background mimic our planets turning around the sun.
Tumblr media
[Note; parts of the following should rhyme. I couldn't find a good rhyme for all of them, but I tried]
Martina, through a microphone: „Our classroom flew a little bit further this time.“ Matze: „Into space, way up high!“ Martina: „Until the earth was just a blue spot in space.“
A piano plays in the background.
Narrator (audiobook): A boy, dressed up as the earth, steps forward.
Tumblr media
Jo: „From here, all countries of the world are so close!“ Martina: „And in weightlessness you notice suddenly that everything we learn helps us protect our world.“ Matze: „Here, we understand nature. The countries. Humanity. Parents and kids. And time and space.“
Narrator (audiobook): The astronaut Jo has taken a seat at the piano and is playing the piece she practiced with Robert.
[Note: wait what??? i thought that was clair de lune]
[For comparison; here’s Clair de Lune vs what she played at Robert's train wagon]
Tumblr media
Jo: „So listen closely! We have a lot to tell. Adults have school duties as well. We’re explaining it for big and small - the flying classroom has room for all!“
Narrator (Nichtraucher): The Internals had brought back some important insights for us from their journey with the flying classroom. That the earth only seems blue because particles of the atmosphere scatter the blue part of light. That we see stars in the sky that have gone out thousands of years ago, but whose light is still on the journey to us. And that habitable planets have been found far away, but that scientists aren’t sure if we would even be welcome there.

Le Grizzli - Tome 1, un drôle de Chabanais
Si les Tontons Flingueurs existaient en BD... Personnages attachants, dialogues truculents.

Here are my layouts for our movie Oasis. As I was head of layout, I actually had to work on almost every layout of the movie... with approximately a hundred shots and 60 to 70 layouts, those ones seems really not that much...! Big thank you to @luananguyentriluan who helped me retaking those tons of layouts during our biggest rush of the year !!

Hi everyone,
These are designs of Igor, the evil plant of my graduation movie Oasis. (click on the title if you have not seen it)
The film is has been realeased so I can post some of my works now. :)
It was pretty hard to design it, because it was supposed to evolve in something bigger and scarier while remaining consistent with the initial shape. And the final form wasn’t very clear in our head, so I didn’t work on it very much until I found the first transformations.
Big thanks to Marine and Claire for their precious advices!

Not to be queer or anything, aber dein reblog zu meinem Mona post hat mich zum Nachdenken gebracht: Mona und Jonathan schminken sich gegenseitig
"Not to be queer" sagst du und ich muss nur an dieses "no homo? 😢 not even a little bit? 😭 bro" tiktok denken lskjdslkdj

THE LAST (2019)

Gottfried, Madelyn Barkocy, Amir Royale, Brandon Damiano, Jacob Goodhart, Josh Lerner, Adam Naimoli, Shannon Tyo, Haskiri Velazquez, Grace Woosley, Carolyn Baeumler, Jerry Matz, Elaine Bromka and Nimo Gandhi.
Screenplay by Jeff Lipsky.
Directed by Jeff Lipsky.
Distributed by Plainview Pictures. 123 minutes. Not Rated.
Every family has secrets. No one can know everything about anyone else, and that is probably for the best. There are things about your grandmother, or your mother, or even your child, which you will never be let into. Again, perhaps that is the way it should be.
The Last rides on one hellacious doozy of a family secret – the type of thing that can potentially destroy the family. At the very least it will cause tremors of disappointment, anger and recrimination which will throw them all off of their access, and make the clan believe that all they have thought in their lives may be wrong.
This particular family is a middle-classed Jewish clan that live close to the sea in the Hamptons in New York. It looks at four generations of the group. All of the members have differing levels of reverence to their religion, but all of them do believe in faith and goodness.
The secret belongs to the matriarch of the clan. Claire is a sweet and somewhat doting 90-something concentration camp survivor. She is long widowed, but is loved and respected by her son, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. When she learns that she has a terminal illness, she decides to tell her family something that she has not told anyone in over 70 years.
Claire is not actually Jewish. She was in the concentration camps – but as a nurse in the medical experimentation, not as a prisoner. She was a young girl who was saved by a doctor who gave her safe passage to Poland. Eventually he becomes one of the top doctors in the camps, and she works as his nurse. As it becomes obvious that the Nazis are going to lose the war, the doctor got her transport to the United States, setting up a fake identity as a camp survivor.
More than that, even after all these years, Claire is completely unrepentant. She is not sad about what she has done, she is only sad that her side lost.
So, how is a nice Jewish clan going to react to the fact that their sweet little bubbe is actually a Nazi war criminal?
Quite a conundrum.
It is made doubly confounding due to an amazing performance by Rebecca Schull – who is probably best known for a long run as airport worker Fay on the 90s sitcom Wings. Schull makes Claire wonderfully human. She is lovable and hateful, sad and scary, smart and weak, faithful and inscrutable, all at the same time.
As the poster asks: What would you do?
This quietly intense (and very talky) film explores that question. Full of lots of passion, but not so much action, The Last shows a family coming apart at the seams and trying to figure out how to react to the bomb that has been metaphorically tossed into their world.
It’s an intriguing premise, and it is handled by some fine actors. Beyond Schull, Jill Durso really stands out as the grandson’s fiancée who is very serious about converting to Judaism. Reed Birney is also terrific as the woman’s son and AJ Cedeno as the grandson.
Full of intelligent wordplay, philosophical debate and a very disturbing premise, this small film is surprisingly moving.
