The Last Jedi + MBTI
So, a new SW movie and the inner MBTI nerd is out. I’m an ISFP who has been interested in Myers Briggs for quite some time and I really wanted to make a post about the character’s types or just to discuss them further. Feel free to add in your own thoughts as well.

I’ll be refering alot to MBTI terminology here, so understanding function stack and the 8 cognitive functions is necessary.
Here’s my thoughts in general
Star Wars continues the XSFP trend, with Rey being amongst Jyn Erso, Anakin and Luke Skywalker. This series tends to favour the type known for action (Se) + strong feelings and beliefs (Fi). 
SW villains tend to be TJs. Kylo Ren is not. Hux, Snoke, Phasma are though.
Princess Leia is still an ENTJ / ESTJ. Nothing in this movie changed my mind about that, but nothing reaffirmed it either. 
Here we go...
THE NEW CHARACTERS
Rose Tico is an INFP. I’ve written a post on this. 
Holdo is definately a Fe-dom (EXFJ). She leads others, has strong viewpoints on what others do and how things that affect individuals should be coordinated. Her defining act is for the Resistance. She also uses speech like ‘we’ or ‘us’ as opposed to ‘I’ or ‘I feel.’ Although a leader, she sees the resistance as a collective, and dislikes the disruption Poe could pose. Often drawing on past experiences, and wanting a level of respect makes me think she uses Si. So Holdo’s type is ESFJ. 
DJ is a man of many, reckless talents that he shows off with ease (Se). We know he’s not Fi because he shows no engagement with his own emotions (he’s quite detached). So XSTP. His Se / Ni is also high with his frank, sharp analysis of the galaxy and weapons distribution. Whilst arrogant and always up for an opportunity to show off, he holds his cards close to his chest. DJ’s type is ISTP. 
FORCE AWAKENS CHARACTERS
Rey- I liked that TLJ focused more on her beliefs and convictions, as opposed to the stereotype many assigned to her of ‘fixing things’. She’s shown to be an apt person who reacts strongly in emergencies. Also described as quite forgiving and wanting to belong, Rey uses Fi and is very interested in developing Se / Ni. Hopefully the next film will develop her Ni / Te. For now, she remains an ISFP.
Kylo Ren / Ben Solo. My friend @valyriansword just posted an argument about INFP for him. Well worth a read. I think he’s a very hard character to type. Fi makes alot of sense as being Ben’s dominant function. He is emotional, erratic, wanting his own identity, in conflict, and differs from people around him. He’s an unhealthy type. He’s also an apt warrior who is quick to act and take iniative, as well as struggling with assertiveness and long-term thinking. He’s clearly an IXFP.. so Se or Ne? That’s the question. I accept both typings, but I do lean slightly to ISFP.
BB-8: ENFP! This droid adores possibilities, encounters, thinking outside-of-the-box. BB-8 also has a side that’s very much interested in the Resistance and Poe. TLJ continues this. So ENFP. 
Hux is an ESTJ. He can’t be a Ni because we haven’t seen any huge long-term planning schemes like Snoke and Palpatine managed to conjure. He’s closer to Tarkin in those regards. He’s smug and certain of his established schemes and plots (Si). He loves his command role, even if it means repeating what Kylo Ren says. Te-dom and Si make him an ESTJ. 
Poe remains an ESTP (contrast him to the sleek, secretive DJ and you have a good type contrast between ESTP and ISTP) and Finn is an ESFP. I thought that before the film, and continue to do so. Nothing to add, just that TLJ reaffirmed what I thought. 
ORIGINAL TRILOGY CHARACTERS
Luke, in the Original Trilogy is a clear-cut, to the point ISFP who dreams big and connects with the Force whilst wanting to save his friends. Here I get really controversial and say that Luke is a bit of a mess MBTI wise in this movie. ISFPs form attachments really easily. Luke seems too cool in this movie for any of that. He also doesn’t show much Se. We do get Luke analyzing and putting thought in this, but I can’t type him. He’s definately introverted and maybe an ISTJ. We know Luke is affected by the past, his mistakes, history and what has been established (Si). He’s a very cutthroat teacher (Te), cuts himself off (Fi) and shows some creative thinking (Ne). Luke in the OT is an ISFP. Luke in TLJ is an ISTJ. This opens up a can of worms of whether or not types can change. Oh boy...

An attitude is defined as an evaluation of people, objects or ideas that is expressed with some level of intensity. An attitude consists of a positive, negative or ambiguous reaction toward someone or something and have three components: an affective component (our emotional reaction), cognitive component (our thoughts and beliefs) and behavioural component (our actions and observable behaviour). 
Part of our more deliberate and conscious thinking system, explicit attitudes are those which we overtly express, consciously endorse and are able to easily extol. Conversely, implicit attitudes are part of our instinctual and intuitive thinking system; as a result, implicit attitudes consist of involuntary and uncontrollable evaluations that are often outside of our conscious awareness. Explicit attitudes are rooted in people’s more recent experiences, whereas implicit attitudes are imbued through their upbringing and childhood experiences. 
Explicit and implicit attitudes held by an individual are not necessarily related and may not be correlated. For example, a positive correlation between explicit and implicit attitudes tends to be present when people are asked to consider how an attitude object makes them feel (affective consideration). However, this positive correlation is not presented when people are asked to reflect on the same attitude object (cognitive consideration). While explicit attitudes can be measured through self-reporting, implicit measures can only be captured through indirect measurements such as evaluative priming and implicit association tests. 
Fazio et. al (1995) conducted an experience involving evaluative priming to explore the relationship between explicit and implicit attitudes concerning expressions of modern racism. Participants were given a self-report questionnaire designed to measure their explicit attitudes concerning racial prejudice and then subjected them to a priming task to capture their implicit attitudes. In the priming task, participants were asked to rapidly judge whether the words with which they were presented held positive or negative connotations while simultaneously ignoring distractions; the words were preceded by images of black or white faces. Fazio et. al interpreted faster reaction times to negative words and slower reaction times to positive words after having seen a blackface as indicative of negative implicit attitudes. Although participants reported non-racially prejudiced explicit attitudes, they still showed implicit bias via their response times. The findings suggest that perhaps explicit attitudes predict controlled behaviour, whereas implicit attitudes predict uncontrolled behaviour.  Dovidio, Kawakami, Gaertner (2002) conducted their own study that supports this finding. They measured the explicit and implicit attitudes of white participants in their interactions with black people. Interactions between white participants with both a white and black student were videotaped and then analyzed for instances of verbal and nonverbal behavioural expressions of friendliness. A correlation between prejudice and behaviour was found and revealed that explicit attitudes predicted differences in controlled (verbal) behaviours while implicit attitudes predicted differences in involuntary and unconscious (nonverbal) behaviour between the white participant and the black person. 
Finally, the Implicit Association Test (IAT) is the most well known method by which to measure implicit attitudes. Through a five part series of computerized sorting tasks, the IAT is meant to measure the ease with which the participant associates two categories with positive or negative concepts. In the third sorting task, white faces are paired with unpleasant words and black faces are paired with pleasant words. Conversely, in the final sorting task, white faces are paired with pleasant words and black faces with unpleasant words. In terms of assessing racial prejudice, the third sorting task presents an incongruent arrangement (white = unpleasant, black = pleasant) while the final sorting task presets a congruent arrangement (white = pleasant, black = unpleasant). Following these lines, slower reaction times to the incongruent arrangement in comparison to the congruent arrangement is interpreted to indicate an implicit preference for the one group (white) over the other (black). 
Each of these implicit measurement involves rapid testing method that bypasses the conscious control of the participant so as to effectively access their implicit attitudes. In other words, the participants are not given the time required to consciously bring forth their explicit attitudes, so what is revealed is what lies beneath. However, some argue that the IAT might not be measuring implicit attitudes so much as it is measuring the participants’ awareness of the stereotypes or prejudices that exist in their culture. The participants’ response times might also be a product of recency or frequency activation, meaning that the particular stereotype or prejudice being measured is acutely or chronically accessible within the cultural milieu.

the only thing that genuinely annoys me about your blog is that you have a seriously limited understanding of mbti despite it being all you talk about. the four letters aren’t what determines a person’s type and the corresponding traits definitely can’t be measured in terms of empirical percentages. personality really can’t be measured in such an objective way. it’s more about the underlying cognitive functions and the order in which a person uses them that determines someone’s type
read about the eight cognitive functions, determine your dominant function and the placement of your other functions from there. Not saying the letters can’t be used as an indicator but it’s way more about the underlying processes.

u cant rly measure ‘personality’ with percentages but u can measure a persons actions like if 2 out 10 times they go with their gut over utilizing logic then they are 20% ‘Feeling’. simple
theres not 4 letters theres 8 (actually 10 if u count Turbulent & Assertive). like, just cuz ur INTP doesnt mean u dnt have ESFJ as well -- its merely not predominate. unless ur super extreme and hav 100% in each category of course
i appreciate ur just trying to share ur knowledge or w/e but no1 ever explains WHY i need ‘The Functions’. The percentages and letters are pretty accurate and sufficient in my experience.
