Where is the stuff about Dandan from? I also remember seeing something about the marriage hunter former member, but haven't been able to find it again, so I'm wondering if there are (more) extra chapters somewhere.

From here that's the only extra about his old party that I know of.

Holm is just so precious to me <3. Also Mickbell standing behind Kuro instead of getting the fuck away and hiding. And Daya being excited about the treasure chest. I love them. They're so silly.

I’m really sold on this being Chilchuck’s wife. We know they’re

childhood friends

the same age

and the black hair genes that Flertom has have to come from somewhere. And to me this seems like some sort of family friends gathering from when Chil was a kid. I doubt it’s just Chilchuck’s family bc we see none of his 5 siblings have black hair (except big maybe his older brother that’s only shown to have white hair from age), it could be the extended family from back when Flertom was a kid but I doubt it.

This page with the other party members too is all about family, community and routine, and gathering/dinners with tightly-knit half-foot family friends being commonplace, which ends up making the families’ kids childhood friends, doesn’t sound far fetched to me… But this is just a theory

Also the dragon plushie she’s holding~ Passed on from mother to daughter? The "most likely belonged to his daughters" is interesting too

Dungeon Meshi x Beastars AU, panel redraws.

Chilchuck as a red fox.

Reasoning: small species (compared to the rest of the main cast, at the very least), but among the tallest fox species (Chilchuck is a tall half-foot), fairly big ears, fur coloration similar to his hair (+ small joke with the “silver fox” expression, as he’s the oldest in the party. Even if he isn’t an actual silver fox here). Red foxes tend to have a reputation of being thieves, while also being incredibly smart, cunning and agile. Real foxes know how to break into hen pens, after all. Unlocking chests and disarming traps is only a short leap from there. Some old texts depicted them as smooth talkers too. I guess that doesn’t fit Chilchuck completely, but hey! He tends to drip with sarcasm whenever he opens his mouth, so I’d say it’s close enough.

I think most half-foots would fit as different fox species or mustelids. I can see Mickbell as a fennec fox, and Dandan as an bat-eared fox, or an American mink for a little bit of diversity (+ it draws a parallel between fur-farms and half-foots being considered as expendable by adventuring parties).

In the halfling post he'sjust referred to by physical description, but iirc the guy with the short black hair in the first picture and also the 8th person in the portrait picture is named Dandan.

He was part of the gold stripping party the Toudens were part of, and was their original rogue when they formed their own party. When he quit, he introduced them to Chil.

If you already knew that, feel free to disregard, just thought I'd put it out there.

Yes it's Dandan! I forgot his name when I was writing the description and wasn't sure how to search for it, he's in the half-foot guild too. I love him he's very cute. I'll update it with his name thank you!

This half-foot. Dandan.

Looks preety similar to this lady here (I'll put them together so you see):

Half-lidded eyes, black hair&eyes, small eyebrows, curly hair... Dandan's skin is lighter probably because of low sun exposure (dungeon), and he has tons of freckles because he preety.

This two are clearly relatives if not siblings.

Flertom is a mirror image of the lady up there. She got Chil's eyes. She even has almost the same haircut (a bit longer). She's clearly the mother. We've solved Chilchuck's wife mystery.

But this wasn't what I was going to say.

This implies that Wife and Dandan both knew Chilchuck since their childhood. Because there's no way that Chil was just friend of the sister. They're both close to the same age, and I'll say Dandan is a Younger sibiling (she gives big sis vibes, and he gives young bro vibes). So either she introduced him to her brother or he introduced him to his sister and they became best friends as kids.

Could you imagine how their relationship was after Chil's Wife left him?

He knows he has to say something, but he doesn't want to end his relationships. At the end he takes his sister's side. He distances a bit from Chilchuck, calling him an "aquitance" rather than a friend. It isn't that he hates him, is just that it's complicated. And they both know it. They're in good terms tho, they just aren't best friends anymore and they don't talk about it. Their worry is the guild, not their personal stuff.

That's why Dandan introduces Chilchuck to Laios. If they were in bad terms, he would've suggested any other half-foot. They both priorize the guild and general safety of their own race. That's why Dandan suggests Chil instead of a less experienced hafling. He cares about the union and respects Chil's time and experience in dungeons. They're on good terms, at least good enough. Summing up, I get the feeling Dandan doesn't particularly likes Chil after what happened with his sister, but he respects him at least.

Might be too long of a comic so a list of your headcanons is fine too but you mentioned in the ds au that Chilchuck was a bit hesitant to take on Laios cause he doesn't really work with other races often, so maybe a peek as to what that first meeting/contract negotiation was like???

It is a little too long to draw all of it, but here's some doodles, and a ton of thoughts below the cut!

Warning again for kink and sexuality discussion

Dandan is the one to introduce them, they meet at a cafe, and from the start Chilchuck is exasperated because Dandan didn't tell him Laios is a tall-man. They have a brief row about it to the side while Laios waits (see Chilchuck's rant in the bottom image here)

Chilchuck isn't completely opposed to other races, but as in the Dungeon Meshi canon half-foots are looked down upon. I imagine he has to fight an uphill battle for respect among non-half-foots, and that's before even introducing himself as a Dom

Fortunately Laios doesn't question Chilchuck's Dom capabilities, which Chilchuck had been expecting, which puts Chilchuck more at ease with the situation. Laios does immediately overstep and start calling him 'sir' before they've agreed to anything, Chilchuck has mixed feelings about that, but he sees it as a trainable offense

Laios becomes more more confident when he starts talking about what he wants, kink is one of his special interests in this AU so he's pretty knowledgeable even if he's less experienced personally. Chilchuck becomes legitimately interested when Laios lists a bunch of their overlapping kink preferences, because Chilchuck's current sub roster is a little more softcore

This might make some people unhappy, but my headcanon is that Chilchuck doesn't participate sexually with his subs himself. He'll get them off if they want, but he doesn't enjoy sex in a D/s context. He separates his sexuality from his kink entirely, and also in fact he considers himself largely straight

But I just want to mark this last paragraph with huge 'FOR NOW' signage

Chilchuck has brought a trial contract along, that outlines a short but non-personalised agreement, one with strict limitations, and that expires quickly. If they like what they're doing (which they do) Chilchuck will help them write a longer one together, with more specifics

Helki compilation

Helki is a prisoner-turned-servant. He’s a criminal canary and was implicitly one of Milsiril’s charges, and now that she’s retired he’s become her servant.

He must have gotten into Milsiril’s good graces, wether through attachment or convenience, which is a feat considering Milsiril’s a socially anxious recluse. Which is interesting because it’s not like he seems like the agreeable type, shifty upbeat delinquent style… We really don’t know much about him, not even what crimes he did, so there’s a lot of space for speculation on all grounds.

He seemed to be acting out of his own initiative in the Rin comic, he doesn’t look thrilled to be there in many post-canary comics but he also seems content enough. He restrains Milsiril in the Mithrun cleaning comic which is interesting to think of for their relationship.

It’s fun to notice how he’s the only one that didn’t get bored of looking after Rin, and then reports back about her condition… I’d say he was getting used to taking care of kids which would come with the job of serving Milsiril, but then, not enough for him to clean the blood off himself hah. In this way it’s interesting to think about his relationship to the idea of parenthood, he’s probably the closest thing to a father figure/male role model Kabru had growing up, without mentioning the other kids. I feel like he’d consider himself an older brother, cousin or uncle figure sooo much sooner than a father, but even then I do think it’s just his job and he’s not really invested or forming real relationships with any of them much.

It’s curious to note that he’s dressed in canary uniform presumably after having been pardoned and living with Milsiril? Which you can tell by the armor bits (the yellow strips of spider silk). In the Kabru training montage and the Rin comic specifically. It seems very implausible for him to have still been a canary while being a retired Milsiril’s servant and being with her all the time, and the cleaning with Mithrun comic (where he’s not in uniform) happens after Utaya so it could happen after Kabru was taken in but around the time of the Rin comic. So why uniform? It could be one of the best outfits he has, so it’d make sense to wear it around especially if you’re sparring or getting… Blood on you? Could just be because that's how Milsiril wants him to dress. But yeah we don't know when exactly Helki becoming Milsiril’s servant happened. We do see Mithrun’s charge Cithis be tasked with taking care of him, so charge being given a servant-caretaker role doesn’t seem all that out of the ordinary, sometimes even prior to retiring.

Imo, if he doesn't work for Milsiril he goes back to jail/the canaries/has to try and get a job instead of just tending to her, so Helki is staying with Milsiril because she's the best option for him. He’s her milsiril's personal servant and does mostly dull tasks involved in that. He’s not particularly suited to the role but they’ve gotten used to each other to him so she took him with her, and he does prefer it to canary work so it works out decent for him. I think he’s used to reading her and managing her moods and he’s one of the rare social connection she has.
