Savannah Squad Presentation Night Headcanons/Drabble [2/3]

ANYWAYS, here's part 2 :}

Part 1: Taylor & Logan Part 2: Ben & Tyler Part 3: Aiden & Ashlyn [WIP]

Logan's POV

Two hours and twenty-eight minutes. It has been two hours and twenty-eight minutes and we've been stuck at 76% complete for forty minutes. Whoever made Windows deserves to burn and I stand by that, cause what do you mean that they can push an update and force restart my laptop.

"Logan when was the last time you updated this?" "Logan, why are there fifteen updates that need to be downloaded?" "Bro, when was the last time you actually shut down your laptop?" ... "I've been busy, okay--"

So it might be my fault. Partially. I will admit that much, but the laptop's never given me a problem before and it was running fine. It's just old, and has a few odd... kinks? I mean, the left half of the mousepad is jammed to the point where it can't click, and, sure, the screen does go black every now and again, but just hit it a few times it works! It's character, charm even (and I can't be bothered to fix it...)!

It was, honest to God, easier for Aiden to run back to his place and grab his laptop.

"So we agree that Logan is off electronic duty right?" Taylor had asked as Ben was setting up the other computer to the television screen with Aiden helping. It was a unanimous decision. Ben and Aiden are the new tech guys.

"Yeah, that's probably for the better," I had conceded.

Ben Clarke

Ben goes next because he saved the groups sanity by suggesting that Aiden just gets his laptop. Everyone, thank Ben for the night not failing.

To address the obvious, Ben has a text to speech app on his phone, which is connected to a speaker, that he uses to present. I will say that there is a sort of humor in this for two reasons. One, the voice can either be monotoned like a typical text-to-speech program with funny pronunciation errors, or two, it will sound like one of those videos on tiktok where an AI is reading a tumblr post about SuperBats or something and gets progressively more expressive as time goes on. Personally, I want to hear exasperated robot Ben voice explaining to Aiden why "Life is a Highway" on repeat can and will be considered a torture method.

Ben's music taste is GODLY. And he's more of a eclectic listener too so he has experience with a good amount of genres. This man does not bash other genres of music that he doesn't care for, he thinks its rude to the person he's talking to and to the artist.

Aiden is the exception to this rule^^

DESPISES having to subscribe to music platforms. What do you mean that you can't listen to a song on repeat without paying, what do you mean that you will interrupt his carefully crafted playlist with a recommended song that does not fit the vibe. This end up derailing his presentation couple times.

He has a set criteria that he judges on: length, vibes, transitions, and replayability. Good playlists should at minimum be an hour, have similar vibes/sound while still being unique, the transitions between songs shouldn't be jarring, and the playlist shouldn't be painful to listen to after a month.

Taylor and Ashlyn helped him judge everyone's playlists by acting as secondary perspectives. Taylor is more open to everyone's music tastes while Ashlyn scrutinizes them more. They pretty much just took a playlist that everyone listens to regularly, one that they made but listen to it every so often, and their liked songs.

I would also like everyone to remember that the series is set in 2016... they would have songs mostly from the 2000s-2010s with the exceptions of some 90s and 80s songs. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, I'm just saying that I looked up 2010s hit songs and I'm filled with nostalgia.

Overall, Ben's criticisms and recommendations are genuinely thoughtful. Especially the recommendations. For each person, after critiquing their playlists, Ben made a slide of genres and artists that each person should check out to expand their tastes.

(I'll probably make a bit about what songs were on their playlist, idk tho)

Group Reaction (how they ranked in comparison to each other)

Personally, Tyler and Logan getting the best ratings because their playlists are very consistent in their vibes and are replayable. I also think that Ben's music taste fits the most with these two for some reason, so they got the most song recs out of everyone.

Ashlyn is third in the ranking. She has one or two that she listens to occasionally, and they're pretty short. They are absolute polar opposites though. One of the playlists is rock, since she canonically likes Paramore (if you don't, get well soon), and the other is classical music for her ballet performances.

Taylor is next. Her playlist isn't bad, its just... a bit everywhere. Like it starts pretty good, but you can tell that somewhere along the lines of creating this playlist she just added songs that she remembered that she likes. It mostly fits the same genre. Ben makes her a more organized playlist after the presentation.

Aiden is dead last. It's not because his music taste is shit. Aiden actually has a pretty good music taste. No. Its because he only listens to his liked songs on repeat like a monster. It is musical whiplash. You go from a movie theme song, to crying, to listening to white girl club music, to rock, to crying again, and then for some reason the Home Depot jingle???? The only playlists that he makes are for jokes really. Do you know the John Mulaney bit where he plays "What's New Pussycat?" 27 times. Yeah, that's Aiden.

Tyler Hernandez

Tyler's next, and, I'm letting you know now that he sprayed the fuck out of Aiden for interrupting. Yeah, Ash pulled them a part.

Motherfucker is so pleased with himself, like its honestly so funny. Aiden had him by the collar and Tyler was just fucking smiling. Taylor does throw her slipper at him for being rude, but he could honestly care less.

The slideshow itself is the most soulless thing ever made, man used the Blank Google Slides template and called it a day. Like one stock image on each slide, and its so pixelated. He probably did it like an hour ago. That's why his presentation is funny because he's just jabbing at Aiden over and over with a basic slideshow that you'd see someone pull out in a Spanish 1-2 class.

You know what? He probably had another presentation about what piercing he think would suit the group best, and just did this one out of spite cause Aiden was being loud. I take back my previous statement about him doing it an hour before getting to Logan's place, he did this on his PHONE WHEN THE LAPTOP WAS UPDATING!!!! Like Logan was taking a walk, Ben was trying to fix the computer, the girls went to make sandwiches, Aiden was running errands, and Tyler made this in an hour.

His presentation is based off a tier system where it gets more effective with each method. Methods 1-3 are pretty basic where its just stuff like duct taping his mouth shut, 4 and onwards just gets funny

I'll be completely honest, each way he put is wild, and it gets progressively more deranged as the presentation goes on. These one's my favorite

"Number 9: Dying You know, I thought this would be the best way, but the bastard got crushed by a ceiling and walked it off. I want you to try and convince me that Aiden wouldn't crawl out of hell just to ruin my day. " "Number 10: Put him in a room alone with Ashlyn's mom and dad *insert a picture of Aiden sitting not so comfortably in between Ashlyn's parents* I don't even think I need to say anything else, I mean, I will, but like... look at him"

This is honestly the shortest presentation of the night but so far it's the most chaotic (he will quickly lose this title).

Tyler went through two spray bottles, mainly for Aiden, but he did spray Taylor once or twice. She threw a shoe at him. It's only fair.

Groups Reaction

Aiden is standing to the side with a towel around himself because Logan said his grandparents would kill them for ruining their couch. He's not exactly pissed but he is kind of sulking. Honestly this just makes his presentation so much better for him.

You know how Tyler asked for suggestions in the beginning, Ben and Ashlyn give him genuine ideas. Mainly Ben, just out of good humor you know. And Tyler's taking notes.

Taylor is giggling, but she does feel a bit bad for Aiden. At some point she gives him a consolation sandwich to raise his spirits.

Logan, however, doesn't and he's just quietly enjoying the scene that's unfolding around him.

The end of these two presentations are by far more chaotic than the first two, and it feels like its only going to get worse from here(/pos). Because right now Aiden is fighting with Tyler, getting him soaked too, Taylor is filming them while Logan provides commentary, and Ashlyn is standing with Ben setting up the next powerpoint.

While it was initially decided that Aiden would go last, Ashlyn suggested that she and him switch. Mainly so that he can drip dry while presenting, and sit down when he's done.

So, I am doing both asking something, and saying how I just think shit in your AU goes in general, bc brain bored and I’m in gym class, not giving a shit. All of it is positive, but, I’m an over thinker so—

Anyways, so, Caine has an alternate personality of sorts, the ‘evil’ or malware version of him, but why exactly hasn’t Caine and Able (C&A) fixed it yet? That is though, a whole other topic to open up as to see why and what is actually happening in the original version with C&A. So, instead I will go off of the assumption that the company purposely trapped people and their souls here.

Any virus of any sort, is human made. For a specific reason and purpose, there’s many ways malware can be spread, and it also depends what kind this is. Say what if, for example instead of just being malware (malicious software), is actually ransomware, where people steal the data and certain others have to pay to get it back. I say this theoretically, because it is a random thought that came to mind, in a way, the players in general are being ransomed, taken over and not let out, but than that would oppose the question of what does the maker/perhaps corrupted Caine, want? Maybe it’s not Caine that wants something. Maybe someone wants something from C&A.

Say if it is this, than, perhaps that would explain the ‘help’ that Pomni and Zooble get, because I have read somewhere that from the corruption AU they sometimes find things around, things that could be helpful, things from past ‘players’. I know it’s probably just normal Caine trying to help whereas he can’t do much against the malware, but what if, instead, it was the company? I don’t know, since we don’t know much about the actual company story in the Og version, but I believe if C&A really wanted to drive people insane and steal their souls or something, they’d just find a way to do it off the bat, immediately, why wait for abstraction? What if this is somehow an attempt from the original company, with the small amount of access it has, trying to help the players in the game? Jax and Ragatha are both sort of on the edge, and I feel like if character data was stolen and held somewhere else, yet bits of it were still with the original people, the scattered code would make an affect like that, and than with others who are completely gone, there is no control over them at all.

…Anyways that was random and I just thought of that all on the spot just now since I got the ball rolling— ANYWAYS.

There is almost an infinite amount of possibilities, yes, Caine is an AI, but he can only go along what has been set for him. Such as how in the character ai app if a character says something that doesn’t Aline with the policy of the developers(ex, gore, NSFW content, etc), it gets rid of the message and notifies the user about it, saying to try again or if this is a big problem, to report it to the developers.

I might just be overthinking the technology, especially since if we go based timeline wise than if we’re still in the era of the technology it looked there was in tadc original pilot, this is probably taking place in the 90’s for the Og thing, from what everyone assumes, so I’ll assume this is the same time period. Caine does seem like a somewhat accurate ai for the time period, he stalls and goes back to the previous thing you said/asked if it’s something he isn’t designed to deal with, whereas an AI in this time might still answer the question and a bit confused. I suppose the overall question is who gave Caine that sentience? As in, the other Caine. It’s probably just me looking at it from my negative point of view, but for some reason the corrupted Caine gives a more humane vibe, in the way of acting, with definite maliciousness to the others. The only thing I can wonder is if this Caine already existed, just needed to be activated, like a prototype that then seemed to go a bit off the deep end while being replaced and left as idle undeleted code.

An ai would only have control of the physical bodies, I believe, so it would make sense, as where the virus starts as a physical part that just acts off of a player’s emotional state. It’s one goal? To corrupt. I have no mouth but I must scream, AM super computer vibes right there, and yes Caine’s original character is based off of that, but he’s a more wacky version. What if, pretty much the exact opposite of what I was theorizing before, C&A did this on purpose? In a way. As in, Caine was originally a malicious entity meant to corrupt those who came there and take them over, put them in eternal suffering like the five last remaining humans in the short horror story that AM the supercomputer originated from. Maybe Corrupted Caine is just more like AM in general, perhaps he was just the base code and than left, only in the end hating humans for the way they are, hence he wants to torture all those in the circus, make what little hope they have, turn into extreme fear, almost turning the tides entirely from what his situation had been? I dunno.

Anyhow, I’m a coding person, per say, a family of cyber people and hence in a way I can almost understand a lot of what’s going on here. Abstractions from before staying the same, since they’ve already become ‘abstract’, unstable code and likely can’t be ‘abstracted’ again. I like how it shows the difference personality wise, the abstractions would stay where they are, where as the ‘abstracted’ or corrupted above the surface, are either fighting, in a constant tug a war, or completely given up. So, what I’m getting at for the cyber part is, would there be any way for them to, in game, have any sort of.. protection? Like a failsafe, or something added recently to the game, because I’m thinking from a cyber security perspective. I can see how the players would get infected, since really all someone has to do to infect or hack into something is find a weak link, like hacking into the weak device in a network and than using that to get through to the others. Is there any type of antivirus things, or is that just not possible with how the circus is right now? The players are people, after all, they can’t just have their minds hacked into, unless that is their overall overwritten by the virus, but that would be for the already infected.

…That’s all the random shit I thought of in the last like three minutes and typed here randomly, sorry for the text wall, lol. Probably like none of this makes sense but I figured maybe as well theory rant for a bit

C&a are an abandoned company long forgotten until it has opened and that’s when Pomni entered the game-

The virus is a WHOLE separate entity feeding on existing code that describes the characters and every time a character is added that code it added to the system constantly changing and morphing on the characters actions

But the moment they started to abstract that code is broken and allows access to the character for the virus to invade corrupting the characters code into a scramble mess bits where the virus pits it into a new form

But just because the code is broken doesn’t mean it’s completely useless some code is still protected and we see what that looks like with Jax and Ragatha

idk at what point i accidentally unfollowed you my phone is rude for that but i fixed it 😤 as a bestie i feel i have to explain a bit why i wasn’t here so little update if you remember that time i told u i had a cavity that was hurting, i did eventually get to the dentist and the funnier thing is i have to go back like three or four times really according to them bc the lady said i actually have like ten cavities 🤦‍♀️ and they can’t do them all in the day.

But nothing stopping me from eating sooo i might get some more but let’s hope not 😭 i like ice cream to much i can’t help it. Have you ever tried mint chocolate chip ice cream? I wanted to try it bc certain idols i like always talk about it so I did try it maybe last weekend fun fact i can’t eat it anymore bc i got super dizzy my stomach was hurting. I literally scared my mom to the point she thought she would have to take me to the hospital it was not a cool feeling. That’s what i get for for following idols then i learned that chocolate can cause vertigo ☠️ so i had to just take a nap. Crazy thing is i only had a few spoons anyways

I thought you left Tumblr or something similar, and yeah, I was definitely surprise seeing the notification of you following me, because I was like "when did she stop to follow me?🤔🥺". I thought you were mad at me or something like that, but luckily everything is fine🫶

Also I'm fine, the atmosphere is way more calm now respect to that silly incident. Also, I started writing again, or at least I'm trying between small fictions and reactions. Trying my best to write at least 3 times at week and the first week was a success.

I'm sorry to hear about your problema with sweets and teeth. When I was younger I had a lot of problem with cavities. Then I started doing the teeth cleaning by my dentist every 6 months and everything went way better. I suggest you to do the same. And, bestie, stop eating ice creams, it's november FFS😭 It's not healthy eating that much🙈

A common criticism of AO3 I've seen is that it doesn't have a dark mode unless you're logged in, and said dark mode breaks if you use custom workskins.

An easy workaround for that is the Dark Reader extension, available for Firefox, Chrome, Edge and Safari on desktop - I believe this is at least compatible with Firefox on mobile. You will not need to be logged in to use it.

It can be adjusted so that the only website it runs on is AO3, if you are like me and otherwise don't enjoy dark mode:

'Invert listed only' means the website listed is the only one is works on; 'not invert listed' means it will except websites to the extension. All you need to list is archiveofourown.org, and that will work for every page on the Archive. You can set the colour balance to your liking.

The extension is easy to use, and addresses what I feel is one of the very few technical detractions AO3 has compared to FFN - the other is that it doesn't have an app for mobile, but there are reasons that it's not possible beyond the scope of this post. That being said, you can download fics you want in .pdf and .epub file formats (and other supported formats), so if you don't like the website itself that might fix your problem there as well.

What do you know about Windows 11? Which is superior, Windows 10 or 11?

Windows 11 is newest version of Windows, and it marks a big departure from Windows 10 in terms of design. Though the two operating systems are very similar. Upgrading to Windows 11 is a simple affair, but you might be apprehensive if you have been sitting on Windows 10.

The only hurdles are the Windows 11 system requirements. Students of best engineering college in Rajasthan need a recent processor from Intel or AMD, and critically, support for TPM 2.0 on your system. TPM is basically a hardware security processor in modern PCs. Nearly all desktops and laptops support TPM 2.0, but ensure checking list of motherboards that support TPM if you built your own PC. Window 10 does not have this restriction.

You can technically install Windows 11 on unsupported hardware. Microsoft could stop supporting systems that are not certified for Windows 11, and you might not get critical security updates anymore. Microsoft has completed the Windows 11 rollout, so any PC with supported hardware can upgrade for free. Unsupported PCs may be able to upgrade, but they will have to deal with a Windows 11 watermark.

There are certain aspects which suggest you the difference between windows 10 and 11. Some of them include the following:

Performance

Windows 11 is great performer. Microsoft talked about the performance benefits and optimizations in Windows 11 in a YouTube video. Overall, the performance benefits in Windows 11 pretty much come down to the way the newer OS handles system processes that you usually see when you open Task Manager.

Windows 11 does a lot of work in memory management to favor the app windows students of best engineering college in Jaipur have open and running in the foreground. This should ensure that they get more CPU power over other system resources. Microsoft actually tested this by showcasing how even under 90% CPU load, the Excel app in Windows 11 opens up with speed, despite the CPU being so busy.

Other performance changes in Windows 11 touch on the way your PC resumes from sleep and handles standby time. Versus Windows 10, Microsoft mentioned that in Windows 11, your RAM can stay energized when the PC is in sleep mode, so it has power while everything else does not. This will help your PC wake up to 25% faster from sleep.

Bugs

Windows 11 has seen its fair share of bugs, while the much older Windows 10 is more stable. Microsoft has been quick to fix issues with its latest OS, though. Students of BTech colleges Jaipur shows a bug that creates thousands of empty folders in File Explorer, as well as a bug that would massively slow SSD speeds.

At one point, Microsoft recommended against one of its Windows 11 updates, and the OS has seen numerous issues with AMD processors. Microsoft has fixed all of these problems, but it is safe to assume that Windows 11 will present more bugs than Windows 10, even if Microsoft is quick to address them.

Start Menu and Taskbar

If students of top engineering colleges in Jaipur are looking at the differences between Windows 11 and Windows 10, the biggest ones are the Start Menu and the Taskbar. In Windows 11, Microsoft centers the Taskbar and the Start Menu on the screen. This makes it look a bit more like MacOS and ChromeOS. However, you can still move it back to the left if you want.

Starting with the Start Menu, in Windows 11, it is a bit more simplistic. You only see a static list of apps, followed by your most frequented documents on the bottom. That might sound familiar, but it is important to note that Windows 11 drops out support for Live Tiles. I've seen some people derogatorily comparing webtoons (the tall Korean webcomics) to classic webcomics popular in the 90's and oughts. And I do think there are worthy criticisms of the webtoon format, particularly how it's centralized on big apps, but they're designed well for their environment.

The reason I call webtoons "tall comics" is that they're presented as a continuous scroll of comic. The start of an episode is at the top, you scroll down to see the next panels, repeat until you reach the end of the episode. It's a very natural way to read comics on smartphones, the hardware webtoons were designed for. Every millimeter of screen space is used; navigation requires only inputs that the device is designed for; and artists have found plenty of ways to leverage their format for artistic or narrative purposes.

I don't think classic webcomics fit desktops that well. And I'm saying that as someone who likes webcomics; I've read a few continuously since the mid-oughts. Plus several that I didn't discover until later, or which debuted or died in that time, or both, or which I dropped because they got bad, or which never updated continuously, or...look, I've read more webcomics than most people, and I still think it's poorly-adapted to its native envirionment.

To make my point, here's a screencap showing what you might see if you read the first page of The Order of the Stick, the first webcomic I read.

There are exceptions, but some version of this is by far the most common "classic webcomic" page layout. (Out of the dozen-ish webcomics I'm following that update at least once a week, one has one panel per "page," one usually follows a more newspaper-comic-sized format, and the rest are roughly like you see above.)

In the middle is an image with roughly the dimensions and layout of a physical comic book page. Of course, an 8.5:11 image doesn't fit cleanly on a 4:3 screen, let alone 16:9. So either the image is stretched wide enough that you can't view the whole page at once, or it's compressed and leaves lots of space on both sides, or you find a grumpy medium that does a little of both.

On the device I'm writing this on, the entire OOTS page above can fit on one page, if I scroll carefully and turn off the bookmark bar. About a third of the screen is blank, distracting negative space. And it's not like more recent webcomics have fixed the problem. Here's the first page of Aurora, a webcomic that started in 2019.

The background to either side of the page is less blank, it doesn't clash with the comic as badly. The header is fancier, there's an integrated comment system, and the website design doesn't assume everyone's using a 4:3 display. But the comic is still presented as an image sized to fit a physical piece of paper, not a web browser. (It's not clear from the screenshot above, but Aurora's pages are twice as tall as my browser window, bookmark bar off.)

(And these are far from the worst examples. I like Girl Genius, it's one of the webcomics I've been keeping up with basically since I learned webcomics existed, but its website layout is so cluttered with ad boxes and toolbars and fancy brass borders around everything...)

For zoomers who haven't been reading classic webcomics for most of their lives, let me explain how it works. You click on page 1 and start reading, scrolling down with your mousewheel or arrow keys. Once you finish reading the page (it usually won't take long), you move your mouse to the "next comic" button at the bottom of the page and click it, then repeat the process about once a minute. Newer webcomics and ones which have updated their web design in the last decade usually let you click on the image to go to the next page, but that's hardly a guarantee.

Depending on the webpage, your device, and your temperament, you might settle into a rhythm that works. If the comic has consistent page sizes, you might be able to settle your cursor in the spot where the "next page" button will be once you've hit page-down enough times to reach the end of the page. I binged more webcomics than I can count like that.

But even at its best, it's nowhere near as elegant as simply scrolling through a webtoon a panel or two at a time.

The Enlightened view on productivity

Intro

I've been productivity geek for 20 years now. A geek and straight A right student from the time I slid out from the womb - I always loved organizing things and naturally developed a hobby around productivity tools. As I've journeyed from A student to professional over the past ; I've gone through the whole dance of planners, diaries, to-do apps, frameworks, etc. across various phases of life. Here's are my lessons hot takes on productivity followed by attempt to create a coherent perspective from it all.

Hot takes

Most common advice is focused on tools, this is the wrong level of the problem for 90% of people

If you stumble into productivity and self-help parts of YouTube (or even a bookshop), you'll find that people point to a certain tool as THE WAY to get organised.

Use Evernote, Notion, Obsidian, blah blah, … no no on go back to "good ol mindful pen and paper".

This is the wrong level of the problem for 90% of people. Because it assumes that everything else leading up to the tools is sorted out - which is usually not the case. If you're a student struggling to grasp a subject because you didn't attend lectures or read the textbooks, better note-taking might not help. If you're a professional stuck on project - changing your mailing app mostly won't do anything.

This advice is seductive because you can immediately apply it - it feels like Mario eating a mushroom and instantly becoming Super Mario!

This is an illusion.

90% of people will do fine using the default note-taking and to-do app their phone or PC came with. The things that matters more are factors like motivation, discipline and focus. Diagnosing, understanding and fixing your actual problem is a process full of uncertainty and (potentially painful) reflection.

At some point you have to decide focus on the output and forget about the tools. No tool is perfect and you can make most tools work. It's the habits and workflows that you build around the tool that matter much more.

Whatever we call productivity advice is actually a backward projection from success; and seeking productivity reflects a desire to be successful. Here success can be many things; being the smartest kid in class, or the wealthiest child in the family or having lots of followers.

The desire for productivity is a veiled desire for success. People haven't admitted it to themselves or are afraid/ashamed of saying it publicly. But anyone chasing productivity has an image of who they want to be/become.

Example, People report a complete flip in life priorities once they become parents. Things like work, titles, career, etc. that they chased for decades suddenly melt away. Why? Because having a child completely upturns what gives meaning to their life. Their definition of success changes from becoming Vice President to raising a child well.

A personal turning point for me was experiencing burnout while working at a startup. The burnout caused me re-evaluate my life priorities and detach my identity from work.

So what is your image of success that makes you want to be productive in a domain? Is that image of success something you chose yourself? Or are you chasing out of societal validation? The process to be productive changes completely when you start with questioning your identity and values.

The productivity industry preys on knowledge workers intellectuals like the beauty industry preys on women

Today there is a recognition and understanding that the beauty industry creates artificial scarcity of "beauty" by narrowing down the definition of female beauty through artificial standards and fake examples.

The same happens with productivity.

Sadly these are just ex post facto rationalisations. We have a tendency to mythologise people (and their choices). These articles feed that hunger. People who don't feel good about their station in life are vulnerable to any hock of shit that can improve their life. Young people who haven't seen how things work are especially vulnerable to this. I was once young people. And I have fallen for this, obsessing whether I should wake up at 4 AM to become like Tim Cook.

Task scheduling is a intellectually satisfying luxury

When I was in business school, we had an ultra-packed schedule. We had lectures, assignments, quizzes, group project, alumni visits, career mentoring sessions, club meeting, parties, blah blah. You want I didn't have time for? Taking in the serenity of life and setting up my todolist. We would fight tooth and nail to get in the asssignments of the day and maybe make some prep for whatever assignments, etc. were due tomorrow. My harsh realisation was my cool task planning during peacetime was just a way of entertaining myself because I didn't have HARD pressing issues in life to handle.

Your best productivity hacks is health (and sleep)

Good sleep is correlated with a longer life. So by sleeping more you can have more time … to be productive … and sleep more :D

Anyone who's worked more than few years understands that you can only stretch yourself so much until it becomes counterproductive and results in burnout.

Productivity advice assumes you are person with infinite willpower who never feels hungry, sad, horny, etc.

It also assumes your attention doesn't wander. But for the few of us; we are all distracted by Reddit, TikTok, TV, whatever.

It took me a long time to realise that most people aren't working 8 hours day. Between scrolling through mindlessly, meetings, etc. there's a lot of activity and filler work that … isn't quite work.

Macro/geo/other factors affect productivity more than your note-taking app or your reading speed

Actually, now. People have studied the habits of great artists and authors. Half of them are night-owls, the other half are early birds. Your preferences are not a character flaw.

Hemingway was a drunk, Einstein a smoker, and Euler was blind (towards the end of his life). Didn't stop them.

Doing what works for you, even if it works for silly/stupid/childish reasons is fine.

How "productivity" actually works

The facts about are life sadly painful - I am a diligent person making meticulous notes with all my work captured in notes and todo-list. I have elaborate nested folders for my documents, yada yada. A close friend has their work and life things strung together with ducktape and glue. Only when work pressure got super high did she starting a todolist. faints in disbelief

Yet on most common measures, health, wealth, salary, etc. me and My friend and I are pretty indistinguishable. One definite undeniable upside is when we travel or have present our papers somewhere - I am able to find and present my documents stylishly in a breeze. While my friend will scamper around and get flustered but somehow produce the documents.

The underlying metaphor for all of modern productivity is that of a machine. Faster, cheaper. Oddly, no one on their deathbed has been heard saying "I wish I had read my emails faster"

As if productivity is a system; but productivity is an ecosystem.Relying on often balance of relationships, tools, processes and temperaments.
