Eboni!! I was reading your tags under that daddy gifset post for phayurain and how you said that it is your favorite out of all thai bl love scenes and it got me thinking. What are your top 10 favorite love making scene from another bl series.
Tyler!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gawd let me go do some research and compile my data!
TharnType's shower scene in TharnType 2: 7 Years of Love. Since their shower scene was cut from s1 we were rewarded in s2 and when Tharn LIFTED Type I damn near ascended (we won't ponder on how Tharn was able to keep a tight grip when they were both covered in suds).
Tumblr media
Tharn lifted Type a lot, I noticed, and it's one of my absolute favorite things. I'd also like to go on record and say that TT2 had some of THE best love scenes in all Thai BL.
The Green Bathroom Scene in KinnPorsche The Series. It's no secret I was OBSESSED with that scene. OBSESSED! It was literally perfection. Who knew a hand job could be so...personal...so intense...so erotic? Also it was filmed beautifully! The use of the mirror was *chef's kiss*
Tumblr media
The Kitty Play scene in Bed Friend. Oh mah gah! That scene was epic! Everything from the request to the consent to Uea being in total control? King being at Uea's feet practically the whole time? Also the tongue????????????? It was superb.
Tumblr media
Can I just go back on record and say that NetJames have NO business serving me everything. All their love scenes HIT!
Cai and Gav's first time in Gameboys 2/Gameboys the Movie. I was not expecting for that scene to be so GOOD! I wasn't expecting a love scene at all tbh. It was sweet and passionate and they practiced safe sex AND confirmed they were vers! 10/10. CaiReel actually own my whole heart.
Tumblr media
I really hope EliKoy get their flowers for Gameboys one day.
Yu Zhen and Shi Lei's first time in Be Loved in House: I Do. You ever read in a romance novel about how the couple reaches their boiling point? Like the tension is too much to ignore? That's what their first time was like. It was an explosion of passion and relief. Like if they hadn't done it then they would've combusted. Also...more lifting...
Tumblr media
The love scene in Check Out Ep 0...not to be confused with Check Out the Series. Anyways before Nine and Daonuea were ruined they had an amazing and blissful encounter after a fun resort party. They were freshly single strangers who happened to connect on their own solo trips to the same resort.
Tumblr media
When I say Chahub and Best DELIVERED on the lust and passion???? THE CHEMISTRY?? They really had me excited for the series...which is why I was so bummed when it flopped. I do encourage EVERYONE to go watch Check Out Ep 0 tho...if it's still on YouTube.
The locker room scene in Between Us. Where do I even begin????? Moving from the pool to the locker rooms to escape the cameras? Win reminding Team he could back out at any time. The damn near visible SPARKS between them??? The way Win looked like he wanted to eat Team up with a spoon?? I was gagged.
Tumblr media
The Couch scene in Manner of Death. Between Teacher Tan's hair pulling and Dr. Bun's slutty faces, I couldn't stop screaming. They really smashed in front of the evidence computer and their cactus. That adrenaline rush kicked in and had them going at it like it was their last night on Earth.
Tumblr media
Fighter and Tutor's first time in Why R U the Series. I was obsessed with that scene. Loved that Tutor was complaining about Fighter turning him on and then trying to back out. I love that Fighter started at Tutor's feet. I love that Fighter's neck was bared for Tutor. I loved watching them fight for dominance. I loved seeing how absolutely breathless Tutor left Fighter.
Tumblr media
Jim and Wen's "one night stand" in Moonlight Chicken. That was the most passionate and intimate one night stand I've ever seen. Uncle Jim covering Wen's face in kisses and lacing their fingers together? Wen kissing Jim all over????? For that to be EarthMix's first love scene they really delivered.

Hello.....How are you? Thanks so much for sharing your analysis in your blog. I'm new to BL. I felt really helped in finding your blog. I lived in a country where LGBTQ+ is considered taboo and my own family saw it as something sinful. Until I found mlm fanfics (I know it's a ridicilous reason for why now I'm interested in BL & GL media).
Can I ask, what are your top 7 (or top 5) favorite BL media (can be books/ manga/ anime/movies/tv series) ? Why do you love them? And your top 5 (or top 3) favorite GL media? Sorry for asking similar question like from someone before (hope you don't mind).
Thanks again, @wen-kexing-apologist 💐🌻🌷
Hello! So sorry this took so long to respond to, I have been really busy and this write up took me a bit of time to get together.
Thanks for reaching out, I’m sorry that your family sees queerness as sinful. I’m sure we come from different countries, and different cultures, but I hope I can give you some comfort by saying I am proud of who I am and I love being queer. I love my queer friends, they are without a doubt the kindest and most caring people I have ever met. And you do not need to apologize at all for asking a similar question to a previous ask. I also hope you know that it is not ridiculous at all to have your eyes opened by mlm fanfiction, I promise.
So my list of (some) of my favorite BLs are:
ITSAY/IPYTM
180 Degree Longitude Passes Through Us
Moonlight Chicken
The Eclipse
Our Dining Table
La Pluie
He’s Coming to Me
What Did You Eat Yesterday? (adding this as a special #8 because it is one of my favorites but may be hard to find)
You’re My Sky
Gameboys
Because this is a similar ask to one I recently got I am going to direct you to that for my explanations on 180 Degrees Longitude Passes Through Us (available on Gagaoolala), I Told Sunset About You and I Promise You The Moon (available on Viki), and Moonlight Chicken (available on YouTube) and add three other shows: What Did You Eat Yesterday?, You’re My Sky, and Gameboys.
If you stick around in this fandom long enough you will start to see that Bad Buddy (available on YouTube) is one of most beloved shows on tumblr. I love love love that show, but it is not in my favorites the way these other shows are. However, I would HIGHLY recommend you watch it if you haven’t already. It is incredible, and a very important piece of BL history both for the level of popularity it gained and the way it subverted BL as a genre.
That said, let’s get in to my favorite BLs and why I love them, again in alphabetical order:
Gameboys
(Pinoy BL- Season 1: Available on YouTube or Netflix, Season 2: Available on Gagaoolala in Asia or with a VPN that can make it seem like you are in Asia)
Contains Themes of: Quarantine, COVID, death, queer character being outed against their will
Tumblr media
I literally just finished the first season of this show today, but have to thank @bengiyo for telling me this is what I should watch next because I absolutely loved it. It is the story of two boys, stuck in quarantine in the Phillipines during the COVID pandemic that meet over an online game and fall in love. I agree with Ben that this is an incredibly well handled pandemic story, the actors are fantastic, their chemistry is believable and natural, and I appreciate that they let these boys be horny for each other. I loved watching the highs and lows of their blossoming relationship and I am so looking forward to watching Season 2 when they are together in person and seeing if and how that changes their dynamic.
He’s Coming to Me
(Thai BL- Available on YouTube)
Contains Themes of: death of a teenager (related to heart problems), murder
Tumblr media
I talked about this show in one of my tag games as my pick for most underrated series in Thai QL. Which I stand by because this show did not have the distribution it should have due to fan interference because they were upset about Singto being moved from a match up with Krist to instead star opposite Ohm.
This is a show that I have labeled as By, For, and About Queer people. This is an Aof Noppharnach piece that is just absolutely beautiful in the way it explores the growing realization about your own queerness as Ohm’s character (Thun) starts to develop feelings for Singto’s character (Med). I love the additional layer to this show that comes with Med being a ghost who can only be seen by Thun, and how we don’t just get an explicitly queer character in an explicitly queer relationship, but that we also get a metaphor for queerness in the fact that Thun has to keep himself and his abilities private. When he hangs out with Med in public, no one can see him, and Thun often ends up talking to air, which results in people constantly staring at him in confusion, concern, or disgust. This show will remind you that Ohm has always been The Actor of All Time, the way his voice creaks in this show still haunts me to this day. I liked the mystery element in this show, I loved the rooftop confessions and the coming out scene. I loved all the ways this show was just so so so queer. Now that it has been released to the general public, I think every person who watches Thai BL should watch this show.
La Pluie
(Thai BL- Available on IQIYI)
Contains Themes of: lying to a romantic partner
Tumblr media
God this show is an incredible, brilliant, perfectly executed subversion of the soulmates trope. A theme I am generally sensing in the content I am sharing is that queer characters are allowed to be flawed human beings. Tai needs to learn how to use his words, Patts is perfect but does have a temper that he is managing extremely well, Tien is perfect but does constantly undermine and underplay his own emotions to support the other people in his life, Lomfon is rude. This show has a lot of very smart things to say, and allows its characters to both experience desire, and sexual frustration, it uses giving sexual pleasure as a way for a character to maintain control over new forms of intimacy. Myself and my fellow clowns on this website (especially @bengiyo and @lurkingshan) have fought for this show tooth and nail for weeks upon weeks to make sure that as many people as possible were watching this absolutely beautiful show.
Our Dining Table
(Japanese BL- Available on Gagaoolala)
Contains Themes of: death, child neglect, grief
Tumblr media
This is a very short, very sweet, wonderful spot of comfort and warmth. Its main themes are found family and navigating grief. It has the cutest little boy in the world who is just a bouncing ball of sunshine, and he and this show won my entire heart. I love this show for what it says about family, about care and love, sacrifice and healing. Even for the parts of the show that center around pain, this show is just so full of joy. I loved watching Yutaka open up, loved watching Minoru have a chance to relax, I loved Ueda-san getting to watch his son fall in love to become happier by way of existing around his sons’ happiness. I love that Minoru is very much an older brother to Tane, not a parent, despite how much care he gives him, and I love that Yutaka and Tane are genuinely friends.
The Eclipse
(Thai BL- Available on YouTube)
Contains Themes of: threats against protestors (including cars rolling in to crowds), suicide, grief, internalized homophobia, homophobia, authoritarianism, emotional manipulation, thoughts of suicide, queer character being outed against their will
Tumblr media
This is absolutely one of my favorite BLs, beyond the fact that the acting is incredible, the characters are allowed to be very flawed, very complex, and very morally gray the story itself is incredibly layered and is a huge social commentary on rebelling against authoritarianism, the ways in which identities and oppression are leveraged against marginalized people to get them to commit heinous acts against the people they should be standing with and not against. This show touches on so many different things: justice, hypocrisy, manipulation, love, fear, internalized homophobia, rebellion, activism. This show gave me both my favorite war criminal and his rat bastard boyfriend. It has some of my favorite kisses and favorite crying scenes. And it introduced me to the powerhouse duo of First and Khaotung.
What Did You Eat Yesterday?
(I am honestly not sure where you can find this easily, outside of @kinounaniresource. there is one season, a special, and a movie. There is a Season 2 on the way, and I am also not sure when it is going to be released or if it is going to be released on any particular platform)
Contains Themes of: internalized homophobia, homophobia, character with history of child abuse
Tumblr media
I am honestly not sure if this technically qualifies as a BL, but it is certainly a show that centers around an already established, older gay couple. This is a story about a couple staying together, and there is an undercurrent of long carried pain that is tucked so neatly between the layers of cooking, and eating, and love for one another. I do not really know how to explain this show beyond it just being one of the best things out there. We are so so lacking in elder queer content, honestly this is the only show I have seen out of 60+ QLs I have watched in the last year that has a main queer couple over the age of probably 25. I love the dynamic between Shiro and Kenji so much because who doesn’t love couples comprised of one puppy dog of a man and one man with the energy of a very annoyed cat?
You’re My Sky
(Thai BL- available on Viki)
Contains Themes of: betrayal, cheating, sports related injury
Tumblr media
This show has some of the most beautiful, saturated coloring of any show I have ever seen, the influence of I Told Sunset About You is incredibly clear (which makes sense because a screenwriter and director on You’re My Sky was a Screenwriter on ITSAY/IPYTM). I am not a huge sports person, but I do love a sports drama, and this one does a stellar job with the way it shoots it’s basketball games. It has Suar, who I was first introduced to as Tien in La Pluie as the main character and he is just SO. GOOD. This dude has been in three shows TOTAL and he just absolutely DEMOLISHES this role, and his role in La Pluie. Seriously, even if you could not give two shits about basketball (as a sport I do not, in this show I care very much) you should watch this show just to see Suar run a masterclass in acting.
Girl Loves
Unfortunately, there are not a lot of girl love shows that exist, the only one I have even seen coming out of Asia is GAP the series (a handful more exist, but they either seem to not be popular and/or are hard to access). It is an unfortunate reality that we are still fighting for more WLW content, especially GL content where the romance is the main and central plot. So, I don’t have a strong list to give you, because what does exist is limited and often gets canceled, but I will give you what information I do have:
Carmilla
GAP the Series
Carmilla
(Canada- Available on YouTube)
Contains Themes of: student disappearances, death, undeath
Tumblr media
This is an 8 year old Western webseries based on the book of the same name. I watched this around the time it came out and loved it a lot. There are a couple seasons and a movie, all of it is really really good, and was some of the earliest queer representation I had, including having the first non-binary character I had ever seen on screen (does not mean there weren’t others, this is just the first one that I found). This is a webseries so it takes place almost exclusively in one room.
GAP the Series
(Thai GL- Available on YouTube)
Contains Themes of: severe homophobia, suicide, emotional abuse, death of a sibling
Tumblr media
GAP was fun, it started out really strong, but it did lose me a little bit at the end. But that is mostly because I am not the biggest fan of boss and employee stories where an equal power balance is not established. I think it s a really solid attempt at kickstarting GL into an industry rather than just an occasional one off. This is required viewing in my opinion because of how it was funded, and because it has some of the highest view rates out there for queer Thai shows, and really helped prove that GLs were stories that people really really wanted to see (read: production companies started to realize they could make a lot of money).
I can offer you a suggestion from other people:
She Loves to Cook, She Loves to Eat
(Japanese GL- I have not seen this yet and I am not sure where you can find this show. But I do know that everyone who has seen it loves it, and I plan to watch it soon. A Season 2 was announced recently but is not out yet)
Non GL shows that either have a lesbian or bisexual character and/or have a GL pairing as a side plot:
Bad Buddy (the second couple, but still has limited screen time)
Secret Crush on You (very minor couple, but has been in a relationship from the beginning)
La Pluie (A very small part of the story)
Lovely Writer (I have not seen this show, I do not know exactly what the plot is, or what purpose this character serves, but I know there is a bisexual character named Tiffy, who won the BL Bisexual Swag
The Warp Effect (one of the shows with a pretty strong lesbian couple)
Gameboys and Pearl Next Door
A book I really love with a WLW couple in it and a gay character is The Priory of the Orange Tree
GMMTV has started filming their first GL, which we hope will air late this year (or maybe early next year), it’s called 23.5 Degrees and I am very much looking forward to it!
Queer Shows
I’ll give you some bonus suggestions that are very queer shows, but aren’t defined as BL or GL
The Warp Effect
Gay OK Bangkok
3 Will Be Free
The Owl House
Deadend Paranormal Park
The Warp Effect
(Thai- available on YouTube)
Contains Themes of: abortion, sexual assault, physical assault, internalized homophobia, transphobia, religious trauma, bodyshaming, slut shaming, kink shaming, workplace sexual harassment, homophobia
Tumblr media
If it is queer and from Thailand and I love it, odds are extremely high that Jojo Tichakorn wrote and directed it. Despite some very heavy themes this was a very very fun watch, it is one of the most kink positive, sex positive, and queer shows that I have seen. I have a friend who is a sex educator and I want them to watch this show for it’s public speech announcements about getting HPV vaccines and how pelvic exams work. This is not a show I can explain super well, but it is one that I highly recommend, and if you are planning on watching Only Friends, then it is something I consider a required viewing.
Gay OK Bangkok
(Thai- available on YouTube)
Contains Themes of: cheating, HIV
Tumblr media
This is a very real look at the existence of gay men in Bangkok, I love it so much. This is a pair up between Jojo and Aof, two of my favorite directors. It is not a feel good show, it is an honest one. I think everyone should watch it.
3 Will Be Free
(Thai- available on YouTube)
Contains Themes of: cheating, manslaughter, murder, murder of a spouse, kidnapping, domestic abuse, sexual assault, strangulation, transphobia, death, gun violence
Tumblr media
Once again, a Jojo show, and once again, despite the list of themes within the show, a very fun watch. This is one of, if not the only GMMTV show with a throuple, and is honestly very hilarious by way of three idiots on the run from the mafia, accidentally through mostly shit dumb luck and the fact that everyone is stupid, taking down a criminal empire.
The Owl House
(United States- available on Disney+, season 3 available on YouTube)
Contains Themes of: white supremacy, child abuse, child neglect, heavy trauma, mind and body control, death, possible world destruction
Tumblr media
This is an animated show that I love dearly and one I find incredibly important for the next generation of queer people to see. The main character is neurodivergent, she is bisexual and gets a girlfriend, there is a non-binary side character, and there is also just a lot of casual queer representation. This show has a lot to say, and says it well, it is adorable and heartbreaking and everything in between and the fact that it got canceled is honestly a tragedy.
Dead End: Paranormal Park
(United States- available on Netflix)
Contains Themes of: possession, murder, death, undeath, paranormal activity, religious infighting, amnesia, animal death, kidnapping, child death, implied transphobia
Tumblr media
This is also an animated show that I love dearly and one I find incredibly important for the next generation of queer people to see. The main character is trans, the other main character is neurodivergent and bisexual, there is a lot of casual queer representation. Like The Owl House this show has a lot to say, and says it well, it is adorable and heartbreaking and everything in between and the fact that it got canceled is also a tragedy.
[I realize for The Owl House and Deadend Paranormal Park that my descriptions are very similar, but I cannot stress enough that these two shows have very different premises and tell very different stories. They are just animated shows that are able to contain a lot more queer representation that the stories that came before them, because of the stories that came before them]

My Top 10 BLs Of 2022
Alrighty this was very hard to choose cause I think, for me at least, this has been probably the best year of BL I've ever had, this year were some of the best shows ever just a lot of hit after hit after hit. Unfortunately there were some shows that I had to leave out cause I was trying to keep it a strict 10:5 ratio cause even numbers but I do feel very very very good about this list regardless, it's not in a particular order cause I can't rank them for there will be tears and it doesn't include anything that I'm currently watching, only shows that ENDED in 2022
SIDENOTE: Bad Buddy is not on my list, yes I finished in 2022 but I put it on my 2021 list cause my BL watching was VERY lacking in 2021 so I started pulling from my currently watching but I refused to do that this year cause y'all know if I was between us would be on here
10. Not Me
Tumblr media
Not me has such a strong political statement to the point of when I was watching, every couple of episodes I would go “how did they get away with this” given that it was such a current situation and they did that while also giving me family drama, amazing romances, found family and fucking so well that it wakes your twin brother out of a coma and that’s what I call a perfectly balanced series
9. The Eclipse
Tumblr media
The eclipse has such a AMAZING message with a side of mystery, every episode was just so exciting to watch, and like before the eclipse I knew First was a really good actor from watching Not me and I thought Khaotung was great in 2gether like he was such a stand out side character but the Eclipse was NEXT LEVEL for the both of them like I knew they were really good but them in the eclipse were out of this world, as a unit they work SOOO well together but especially by themselves they are just unbelievable, and I just love a twist so when we officially found out Dika and Chaddok has been in a relationship it was just so justifying cause I knew it and we got see them fall in love, just the scene of chaddok seeing dika for the first time it was such a visually obvious “oh I just fell in love” love at first sight and I loved that
8. Vice Versa
Tumblr media
Ok I know that this isnt everyones cup of tea but this show was EVERYTHING for me, I don't usually do magic/ supernatural/ fantasy BLs but I've been really working on that this year and saying yes to more BLs I wouldn't usually do. when I first caught wind of this show I wasn't really sure but I fell in love with Jimmy on Bad Buddy so when it was announced he was going to be staring in his own show I wanted to follow him regardless. I wasn't sure of the plot until literally the day before it came out and I thought "this might be interesting" plus Jimmy so I was down, at that point i wasn't super into sea, I had seen him in a couple of shows previously and liked him fine so I was like cool and when he was paired with Jimmy I wasn't immediately sold but when vice versa started Im pretty sure I was sold right away I really think JimmySea is what made it for me and I am unbelievably excited for their new show, I honestly think give me any plot you want with JimmySea and I will go gunhoe for it I don't care if it's bad I will be there popcorn in hand never shitting on it even a little bit
7. KinnPorsche
Tumblr media
I remember when this was first announced and you know it kept getting pushed back and postponed for the longest time and usually with shows that go through this even a little bit you’re expectations goes down with each postponement and usually you’re right to do so cause sometimes when it finally premieres it’s not as good as you thought it was going to be so you blame the delays (I’m sure there are other reasons for it short comings but when it happens my first thought is to blame the delays) but every once while that doesn’t matter and show is even better than you thought it was going to be (see Bad Buddy, and Between Us as other examples) and that is Kinnporsche it just blew my expectations out the water I get it’s not for everyone but for me truly I loved it, I just love shows where there is just so much happening and there is just so many different storylines through out the whole series I really hope they do a second season cause there are just too many loose ends plus it’s gotta be my favorite cast I’ve never been caught up with a whole cast and for so long past it’s time of actively being on the way I am with the KP cast
6. Cherry Blossom After Winter
Tumblr media
I love this one cause I feel like a lot of Korean BLs are very one thing is happening and the main plot is just these two people are falling in love and that's all that is happening which is great and I love that and I fully understand why most KBLs are like that with their limited time compared to other country BLs but at the time I believe this was like the first KBL I watched that had more of plot then just two people fall in love, which again is amazing and I love watching BLs like that but at the time this was very refreshing compared to the previous KBLs I had watched at the time
5. My Only 12%
Tumblr media
I was not expecting to like this, I went back and forth on this a bunch on weather I was going to watch it, I hate high school set bls more specifically I hate them when you're constantly being reminded that it set in high school or that them being in high school is so apart of the plot and that is a lot of high school set BLs so I was wary for that reason plus I didn't really like SantaEarth as a pairing for like no reason at all I just didn't vibe with them but what had happened was a bunch of TikToks of them kept popping up in my fyp and gradually I started to love them so before it had premiered I decided to give it shot, I have this thing where sometimes I just straight don't understand some synopsis even if I read 20 times over so I had to read this a couple weeks later then I was ohhhhh and I thought it sounded so interesting and different. it gave me MAJOR itsay AND iptym vibes and I was hear for it they were in high school but it wasn't a main main focus per say and it has amazing pacing, the fact they were able to spend enough time in high school for you to really be in and understand the friendship that Santa and earth had and have them go college and have it feel natural is amazing honestly every plot point just felt very well paced and perfectly just, the only con for me was I hated it when everyone was rushing Eiw to forgive his father and stop being mad with him, it was one of the days of his moms funeral and they kept nagging him about it like let him be in his feelings for a minute, so only that was peeing me off
4. To My Star 2: Our Untold Stories
Tumblr media
I really enjoyed how this was done with them showing us what lead to Ji Woo leaving Seo Joon and their present plus after they got back together but in a bit of a funky order I just love the reveal at the end, all these sweet moments that they were showing us through out the series that you thought were the yesteryears of them and they made you so sad the first time around then when you find out it’s after the fact you like oh my god, I just loved the journey of it all just seeing Ji Woo try to deny seo Joon and convince him that he didn’t still love him but ultimately realizing he couldnt do it and just the scenes of Seo Joon Just being like fine and finally giving up and giving Ji Woo his space and then Ji Woo shows up to finally try and they get back together in the most cute heartwarming scene ever
3. Love In The Air
Tumblr media
Going into this I was not expecting to like this and I did not want to like this, the first episode was pretty on par with what I was expecting I didn't love it and I found myself getting very impatient and just wishing it was over but something happened inbetween episode 1 and 2 and I for some reason I got really excited about watching episode 2 and from that point on I was hooked, I enjoyed the kooky plot lines, I enjoyed the chemistry between the couples and I didn't think it was going to work and have a nice flow once I found out they were splitting the storylines in two but it worked actually so well so much so that there was some BL I was watching that I was like "I wish they'd split the storylines in two like lita did" I really just loved everything about it and obviously this includes the special episode cause Jesus Christ y'all
2. To Sir, With Love
Tumblr media
The minute this was announced I was on board, which for me I hate a period piece but I LOVE a soap opera, my love of soap opera is greater than my hate of period pieces I was so excited for this cause I love the style of lakorns but I refuse to watch straight Thai shows and I forever wanted a gay lakorn to be made (to my knowledge idk of a another one but if you do lmk) on paper this shows has a bunch of stuffs I usually wouldn't go for with regular drama series but because this is a lakorn all the usually cons are pros, period piece? Yes thank you I'm here for it, insanely long episodes? (Which I do actually love when that happens) should have been longer, a lot of episodes? Again should have been longer, when I heard gay lakorn 22 episodes not a worry crossed my mind I was so excited to watch all 22 episodes so when they said that it was going down to 16 I was devastated but then it got bumped to 17 which isn't 22 but still good I loved everything about this show I never walked away from an episode disappointed or feeling even the slightest bit of meh, every episode was just wow, nothing about this show annoyed me at all even the things that shouldve I loved everything about this show so much but one thing I really want to highlight was the relationship between Tian and Yang the best brother relationship ever, it was so sweet and so loyal I was so scared in the beginning that Yangs mom was going to eventually get him to participate in this weird competition with Tian but no matter what she did Yang stayed committed to Tian while also not hating his mom, he didn't love the choices she made but at the end of the day that his mom, plus when he found out about Tian his immediate reaction was just concerned of the stress tian had been under for so long plus the pure giddy that poured out this man at the pure thought of getting to marry pin, I love the main couple of course and I'm so excited for Film and Jams new project and tian is a Angel baby who can do no wrong obviously but yang really stole my heart
1. Old Fashion Cupcake
Tumblr media
This I believe was my favorite Japanese bl I watched this maybe even ever I love a story of older queer love and I love age gap so this really did it for me plus I love a show that is on the shorter side but does a really good job at pacing and timing nothing felt rushed or out of place I just love a show that is short but is so good that it makes you forget that is short, it was just so sweet and meaningful? That's not the right word but I can't think of the word I want, it gives the feeling of reading like I really good peom that you just really understand and really relate to you that just stays with forever
Honorable Mentions
5. Ghost Host, Ghost House
I don't like supernatural BLs very much so I was a bit wary going in, cause I didn't know how the ghost situation was going to be, if Plum was going to be a ghost or Kevin idk, I didn't want a "fall in love with a ghost" storyline but when it was revealed that the family were ghost I was a bit more interested and I enjoyed the Lore of the ghost/ghost world so I stuck around but with one foot out the door, I started this show with the intention of dropping it, I never planned on finishing it I didn't even put it on Mdl or anything but honestly I kept watching it cause I kept forgetting that I was supposed to drop it and then ep 4 came out and changed the game after ep 4 it just got so good and so much better than it has been previously for some reason
4. Gameboys 2
The movie and the series are the same storyline but with some different added scenes in each one and the series being more stretch out storywise, obviously but I feel like the series gives more context extra detail and more happens in the show compared to the movie there are really deep scenes/storylines in the show that seemed more movie worthy but looking back I do realize why the movie was more simple compared to the show
3. Semantic error
This was the second kbl I watched that I liked and the first kbl of 2022 for me I loved it simple as that when I finished it I was for sure going to put this on my overall list but unfortunately for semantic error this was a really good year of BL and I just didn't have the space
2. Eternal Yesterday
Every week I watched this show I was just always sad it was just this overwhelming melancholy that took over my entire being from start to finish and loved it, every week was sad and you knew how it was going to end at the finale and that was ok it was like someone was wrapping me in blanket saying "it's gonna be painful but it's ok I got you", after the last episode it was like content sigh of relief
1. KabeKoji (AKA Kabe Sa Doujin Sakka no Neko Yashiki-kun wa Shouninyokkyuu wo Kojiraseteiru)
kabekoji is soooo good and if I just had enough space this would be on my top ten this was probably my second favorite jbl I watched this year truly a didn't expect this show to go in the directions it went but there were just other shows on my top 10 I wasn't willing to remove, this show had deeper messages than what I was expecting from a manga writer and idol love show and I love shows that get adapted from comics/ mangas that keep the style and it actually works still, kabekoji had the wacky manga tropes but in live action and I loved every second of it
Rewatching
I'm not usually a person that rewatches stuff but these are the shows I'm planning on rewatching in the near future
Old fashion cupcake
Love in the air
Kinnporsche
Gameboys 2
I've watched/finished a totally of 73 QLs this year. (not including movies, single episodes or specials)

I've been showing a good friend BL twice a week since early pandemic. She's seen a lot of the best stuff, and recently finished To My Star 2. We were discussing how the seme/uke and top/bottom perceptions affect how the characters are portrayed.
With TMS2, I commented that the scenes we get to the end where they keep switching who is big and little spoon felt like a tasteful way to show that they were versatile. We also noted that Pat and Pran are never shown in a way that confirms their positions.
Does your spreadsheet track anything regarding top/bottom presentation, and do you have thoughts on BL and how it presents this?
Verse Characters in BL
What an interesting question.
Well I would argue that Fighter & Tutor are the only Thai BL couple who are explicitly verse, in their case they talk about it openly in terms of "showing ownership" which is pretty clearly code for who fucks whom. As in, the idea of being taken or taking (invasion) = ownership. Trust a BL script to use the language of war for an act of communication and connection.
My spreadsheet doesn’t track this because it’s so rare. I remember a couple other times getting very excited about it (other than Why R U?) but not which shows.
Okay here’s our biggest example:
Cornered Mouse Dreams of Cheese shows them verse (explicitly depicts the sex act both ways), but it’s one of Japan’s discussions about the nature of identity and intimacy and possession. It could actually be argued that the whole movie is a debate of what seme/uke means and does to its characters, what obsession means, how long term devotion without consequences of boundaries corrupts. It’s kind of like the very dark version of what could have happened to the characters in My Beautiful Man if they had never managed to find each other and reconcile (and Hira learn to accept and express himself). The leads in CMDoC are genuinely at war, so the lens showing us who fucks whom as an expression of who is winning the narrative battle at that point in time.
Look, I don’t like this movie, but apparently if it’s Japan I’m always going to have a lot to say.
I mean there needs to be enough self aware queerness in the BL to realize this should even be addressed - otherwise just slap seme/uke on it and conflate personality with sexual preference (SIGH).
Also the BL has to somewhat follow the characters into the bedroom, and it would need to be higher heat which, in and of itself, is pretty rare.
So I did a heat ranking, then a ratings sort (since I’m more likely to rate verse characters higher) and here’s a short list of ones for which a case for verse... could be made.
Tumblr media
Why R U? - Fighter & Tutor (no question - couched in a request to “prove/show ownership”)
My Day - Ace & Sky (also I think this is pretty clear via their sex scenes - they were the other ones I was thinking of, also they engage in some fun light kink, I LOVE these two)
To My Star 1 & 2 - implied by the cuddling debate in 2
Bad Buddy - actually they imply, when asked at one point, that it’s still open to debate between them, so we don’t know what they settled on but given their dynamic, probubly verse
HIStory 2: Crossing the Line - ZiXuan & YuHao, I mean YuHao's fantasies go both ways so I think he, at least, is verse
Mr Cinderella - mostly because of the linguistic grappling, but also both actors have a history of the seme role (clearly also implied top) in their other BLs, they swap tropes around a lot too in this one
His the movie - it’s just... not important
Ai no Kotodama - I actually think they have a kinda conversation about this, it’s been a long time since I watched it though, and 2010 = intentionally confusingly vague about everything
Boys Love - right so there’s a bit of an underpinning dialogue about this in both installments. In both cases I think the “teacher” is meant to be the bottom, but also the student is so desperate and so needy there’s an implication that he would do ANYTHING, including alter his whole identity (even sexual preference as a top) in order to be with the object of his desire, which is part of what makes their love destructive - it cannot and does not conform to... anything, least of all seme/uke (which at the time, when present, was always conflated with Top/bottom).
Tumblr media
Either of KarnNat’s pieces, I mean I think Nat is meant to be the catcher, but they don’t act their higher heat scenes that way, it’s extremely mutual, and power exchange back and forth in terms of who kisses whom and stuff.
Frankly, any of the couples who have no seme uke are open to debate since in Thai BL especially Top/bottom = Seme/uke (it shouldn’t, but in the narrative it’s implied). BL couples where there is no seme/uke
Be Loved in House: I Do - YuZhen & ShiLei, maybe
Double Mints - fuck ‘em, though
Ingredients
My Tee
Wish You
Second Chance - PaperFah
Seven Days
So Much in Love - North & Onsah, there’s no seme/uke in this Thai pulp, but it’s so much a pulp and so confusing I’m not sure if that’s intentional or just failure of narrative clarity and poor acting
Your Name Engraved Herein - I am NEVER watching this movie again, but from my recollection of the characters’ behaviors, maybe?
Gameboys 2 - I have only seen discussion here and the previews, but I think they make this pretty clear in conversation and behavior
Hey Rival I Love You - certainly entirely up in the air in all ways
Love is Science? - Mark & Ouwen, I think the flip flopping of who’s on top/in charge in their sex scene implies general experimental willingness, shall we say?
HIStory 3: Trapped - TangYi & ShaoFei, possibly, ShaoFei is hesitant because he’d scared, but that’s of the implications and intimacy of being a couple, not really of sex. After all he runs away when TangYi is too nice and gentle with him.
Tumblr media
I honestly think My Engineer 2 should go there with RamKing. They are perfect characters and actors to do this with. But Thailand really doesn’t have the guts.
Other pairs who I think can and should rep verse?
First & Toru
PokeTongue
MaxTul could absolutely portray verse. Why they haven’t yet is a weakness of Thai BL and y-novels inability to stop heterosexually vomiting all over their gays.
Weirdly? EarthMix, I think they could and should do a bit of a FighterTutor sitch in Moonlight Chicken.
Crosses arms.
Impress me, GMMTV.
A reminder:
So top/bottom/verse is difficult because it means we follow the characters into the bedroom AND have a glimpse into their penetration preferences, that means very high heat, and there is (statistically) less of that in BL.
As opposed to Dom/sub/switch which plays into personality and correlates better (but not perfectly) to a seme uke dynamic because it is about who has the power to make decisions.
And my definition of Seme/uke - which is the character showing the most narrative drive to consummate the relationship (physically or otherwise) = seme.
Finally:
Sexual preference does not correlate to personality! Please stop this. I put it to you in het terms:
If you are a straight women who likes to ride reverse cowgirl style does this show up in your personality as you walk around in your day to day life? No it does not.
So a boy likes to fuck or be fucked - that’s like cake verse pie, it doesn't say anything about how aggressive that boy is in relationships. And prying into that dynamic is tantamount to me asking you about the details of your penetration preferences. (Which, to be fair, I probubly would, but I'm a curious, rude, intrusive shitmonger.)
Also, it behoves me to add, plenty of gay men do not like penetration at all. Plenty of straight women don’t like it. Or don’t like vaginal but do like a-play. And plenty of straight men like to be pegged. A-play has to do with how sensitive you are, how relaxed, how prepped, how much lube, whether you find the idea a turn on when applied to yourself, how self conscious you are, and a host of other factors.
Puts proverbial soap box away while reminding you that soap = also to be used prior to such encounters.

BL Round-Up #5
So @negrowhat tagged me in a current watchlist and I realized I haven’t done one of these since I started a new job. We have a lot to catch up on! We’ll clear out what I’ve completed first.
Recently Finished
I apologize in advance. I have completed a great many shows.
Minato Shouji Coin Laundry aka Minato’s Laundromat (GagaOOlala) 10 - I absolutely loved this show, and am currently showing it to my BL watch partner on our Tuesday/Thursday watch sessions. This show utilized its entire cast so well to explore the nature of age-gap romance, being gay and cowardly, and the nature of youth desire. Absolutely phenomenal, and I can’t recommend it enough.
Gameboys 2 (GagaOOlala via VPN) 10 - Gameboys 2 knew exactly what it wanted to be and completely delivered. I enjoyed this so much more than the movie, and was glad that the Terrence and Wesley dynamic was given more breathing room. Pearl and Achilles fit well into the drama this time, and I even enjoyed the way we got to see more of Gav’s family this time around. The IdeaFirst Company continues to make absolutely incredible queer content. It’s just a shame that so much of it ends up behind difficult paywalls for international viewers.
21 Days Theory (Rookie Thailand YouTube) 9.5 - This show shot up in my rankings for this year because of the way the adults played out their insecurities and supported the youngsters in this drama. This show is so good that it actually made me root for a straight couple. I am 100% here for shorter Thai BLs that use all of their couples well, rather than the bloated mess so many of the pulps tend to be.
Triage (Grey) 9.5 - This was everything I hoped to get out of a time loop show. Continue to love with the Manner of Death team has been up to and can’t wait to see more of their work. This isn’t exactly the normal fare for BL, but it’s the kind of gay characterization I enjoy.
About Youth (Gaga or Viki) 9 - I don’t think this show had enough time to explore all of its ideas, but this show is a valuable addition to the Summer ‘22 High School BL Extravaganza. The cast is just so beautiful, and the boys from Taiwan continue to give earnest performances that I find incredibly endearing. Fuck Ye Guang’s parents, though.
Great Men Academy (Grey) 9 - I didn’t intend to watch this, but @flukenatouch convinced me and it ended up being a lot better than I expected. It’s not BL at all really, but holy hell was I absolutely obsessed with James Teeradon by the end of this show. Also I got to enjoy Captain’s gorgeous eyes again! This show involved a lot of gender swapping, but I enjoyed the show’s kind exploration of masculinity and what it means to admire someone.
Papa & Daddy Season 2 (Gaga) 8.5 - Papa & Daddy 2 has all of the same struggles as the first season, but I genuinely love it for what it’s trying to be. I think, in so many ways, this show encapsulates the strange experience many queer people have of growing into parents and starting families when it was something we never thought we would do. I think straight people naturally consider what kind of parents they might be because procreation is a likely outcome to their desires for intimacy, but it’s not something queer people really have a lot of guidelines for. I liked the challenges and themes of this season, even if I find myself consistently frustrated with filial piety.
Senpai, This Can’t Be Love! (Gaga or Viki) 6 - Very disappointing finish. I felt the lack of communication to be overly juvenile, so I can’t walk away from this show envisioning them as a functional couple at all.
Love Mechanics (WeTV) 6 - There are some things I liked here, but Mark and Vee are not my thing, and I found much of this to be rather tedious.
Coffee Melody (Viki) 5.5 - Boring, and frustrating. Not a good show. Don’t waste your time.
Currently Watching
This is still a lot, but I’m finally under 10 shows.
Takara-kun & Amagi-kun (Gaga or Viki) 10 - Episode 5/8. I cannot overstate how much I’m enjoying the way this show is exploring first desire and relationships with Takara and Amagi. It is the show I most look forward to each week.
180 Degree Longitude Passes Through Us (Gaga) 9.5 - Episode 7/8. This is not BL. It is a story about a young, angry gay man; his overbearing, narcissistic mother; and his father’s best friend and missed love. It is exploring the ways different generations have reacted to queerness, and I cannot stop thinking about it. It is essentially a play adapted to screen, and everyone involved is giving some of the best performances I’ve ever seen out of Thailand. It is no surprise that Pond Ponlawit is a Nadao alum, because I haven’t been this gripped by a Thai performer since ITSAY/IPYTM and Great Men Academy.
I know many folks will never watch this because it isn’t the kind of fun fare that Thai BL often offers, but this is the kind of play that someone sees on a whim that alters the way they see themselves and the world.
The Eclipse (YouTube) 9 - Episode 7/12. I’m really enjoying how complete this show feels. Each moment feels intentional and like it’s contributing towards the end goals. I enjoy it when BL knows what it wants to say, and I’m enjoying the unsubtle politics of this show. Also, Khaotung and First are such a great pair. Neo is finally in a role that he can really shine, and he’s working with Louis in a way that finally lets me see why they’ve been paired.
Love in the Air (iQIYI) 8.5 - Episode 6/13 This show doesn’t really have a plot, but I honestly like it more for that. I personally love when BL is more character driven, and I’m enjoying watching this as a vanilla type and reading commentary from folks like @lutawolf. Though I still struggled with the early bits of this show, I like where it’s gone and can understand why they skipped what I think are incredibly necessary aspects of consent to show. I remain surprised that I have this many positive things to say about a MAME production.
My Only 12% (iQIYI) 8.5 - Episode 7/14 I think @absolutebl broke me when he said this show felt like a Thai take on a Big Eden (2000) prequel (iykyk). I also imploded over the inclusion of Love of Siam (2007) in the storytelling of this narrative. In so many ways this show feels like it’s screaming out the pain and frustration and loneliness we felt as queer in the early 00s trying to sort out the kind of people we wanted to be when we were young and struggling to find community. It was hard entering the community when all of your elders were still coping with so much grief, and there were just so few depictions of queer joy to turn to.
Earth and Santa are a good pair, but for once I’d like to see one of Earth’s characters be happy. I’d also like him to not play a naggy character in the future.
Once Again (Gaga or Viki) 8 - Episode 4/8 - I like the way the sci-fi elements feel in this show with the time travel implications. I know this is going to end sad, but I’m loving the texture of the sense of inevitability in this show.
Ai Long Nhai (iQIYI) 8 - Episode 1/12. It’s fine so far. I like the gay dads. I like the friend dynamic. Subs are only okay. This show might end up being forgettable, but I hope it’s fun.
Vice Versa (YouTube) 7 - Episode 11/12. I haven’t been enjoying this for a while. I have just had to accept that I am not a Jittirain fan, and the way she tells stories just doesn’t work for me. I find myself completely frustrated with and by Puen, and I feel constantly bad for Talay. Otherwise, Jimmy and Sea are a pretty pair. I hope all the constant ads are generating enough revenue to pay for the rest of the BLs on GMMTV.
War of Y (Gaga) 7 - Episode 8/20. I continued this because it moved to Gaga, but I constantly suffer from a dissonance with this show. It wants to explore the dark side of BL by making so many recognized BL pairs and supporting cast play out scenarios that are incredibly uncomfortable. It’s a weird experience to watch a BL that seems to want us to not watch BL anymore.
Not BL
Midnight Diner (Netflix) 10 - This has become my wind down watch before bed. I find this kind of light drama incredibly relaxing. I also love Japanese filming styles that rely on long takes. I like letting the actors act. I don’t want to feel the editing constantly when I’m watching something. I notice it when I come back to Thai productions and it’s constantly cutting and changing the angle of the shot, or refusing to put actors in the same frame for more than one line delivery.
Is It Wrong To Try to Pick Up Girls In a Dungeon? IV (HiDive) 9 - We all have shows we make exceptions for. I make mine here because I enjoy adventuring party shows. This season has been a really good adaptation, and I continue to love all of the character dynamics.
Do Revenge (Netflix) 9 - As a long-time fan of Throw Momma From The Train (1987), I do love a good Strangers on the Train story. This one was excellent, and used its lesbian characters well. Everyone turns in fun and memorable performances, especially Camila Mendes, Maya Hawke, and Sophie Turner.
9-1-1 (Fox, HULU) 8 - I’m an American and do love a first responder procedural.

REWATCHING (my go-to's or recents):
Love By Chance: it's actually pathetic how often my brain goes "oh- so we rewatch now? how about- now? ....and now?" when will enough be enough? it's the question for the ages (just AePete parts; sometimes I watch TinCan when the mood strikes).
UWMA: still doing a weekly(ish) rewatch with @flukenatouch, but I've watched random eps innumerable times & the whole shebang 2-3 times. like LBC, it's a sickness & I'm not seeking treatment.
Light On Me: thanks to a bunch of y'all running through the blog & rbing my old LOM posts (you know who you are), I've got LOM on the brain & I'm craving a rewatch- as if I don't have enough on the entertainment plate already, you menaces.
Love By Chance 2: I just finished a second rewatch because the first time around wasn't stellar, but I wanted to give it a second chance (heh)- aaaand no dice. I love Tin and Can's dynamic and there was so much potential there, but Plan's stiff acting (maybe even outright discomfort) anytime physical affection was required kept breaking my immersion. le sigh.

Hi Eboni!!
Top 5 most frustrating moments in any bl series for you
Hi Tyler! I feel like we haven't talked in a long time!!!
Top 5 Most Frustrating BL Moments. These are the ones right off the top of my head.
Kay shooting his shot with Gui in Oxygen the Series. He just would not fucking go away. Even when it was clear that Gui was not interested in him. He was a nuisance.
Tumblr media
Yang breaking Phumjai's heart into pieces because he didn't want to tell him about his debt in Love in Translation. Because why tf would he hurt my sweet boy like that??? Yang is a sad boy and I get it but like it annoyed me so much.
Tumblr media
Tita Susan bringing her homophobic vibes to Gav's house and triggering him in the process from Gameboys the Movie/Gameboys 2. She really walked her crusty ass into that man's house with her lil garden gnome and made Gav feel like an unloved child and then she dropped some info on him to purposely hurt him. Old bitch. I'll never never over that shit.
Tumblr media
The NubsibAoey stans making Gene feel like he had to break up with Nubsib in Lovely Writer. Those hater ass stans had #GeneIsNotTheDriver trending while they exposed Gene and Sib's relationship and Gene felt like the best thing to do was to break up. Which was annoying because Nubsib only agreed to do the series so he could reunite with Gene. He didn't give a fuck about that show.
Tumblr media
Yeonseok chasing boy Jeong Hayeon after hurting his feelings, kissing him, and then saying it was a mistake in First Love Again. Personally I would've slapped the taste out of his mouth. He was really doing Ha Yeon's sweet face dirty with his wishy-washy ass.

Gameboys 2 release GagaOOlala
Those wondering about an international release. No actual date yet, but maybe next month. GagaOOlala has announced that the movie will be on the platform before the second series, so look out for that as well.

hi ABL!!! i hope you're doing good 💌 i was recently talking to a friend & giving them QL recs, when i realised that there haven't been many Pinoy QLs since 2020 😮 i couldn't find anything so i thought who better than you sksksk
There have been a few, but I've not been tracking them. Gameboys 2 for example (I DNFed it). The only one I watched was Rainbow Prince and that was... a journey.
Unfortunately MDL doesn't have a good system for filtering by the LBGTQ+ tag plus country of origin.
Here's a blog post I found on the subject....

BL Round-Up #4
I wanted to get one of these out before the wave of weekend shows aired since we have the premiere of My Only 12% and The Eclipse.
As before, I’ll go in my order of ratings.
Minato Shouji Coin Laundry aka Minato’s Laundromat (GagaOOlala) 10 - We’re up to episode 7 now, and I like Shin’s forward nature so much. Now that he’s 18, Minato doesn’t have that as a potential objection anymore. As such, Shin asked for what he wanted. It was such a big moment that Minato didn’t even advertise the laundromat heading into next week.
I love that Shin has the love and admiration of his siblings, and the fact that he’s basically raised his siblings adds another dynamic to his character. He’s been carrying a major set of responsibilities for a long time in a way that I don’t think Minato has. I still don’t think I want them to be together now, and am curious how Minato will convince Shin to let him go.
Additionally, loving the crumbs of Asuka and Shuu. I have no idea what will happen there, but as someone who has worked with young people a lot throughout my life I feel for Shuu the most. This many kids sniffing around you can be deeply troubling.
Gameboys 2 (GagaOOlala via VPN) 9.5 - I actually held off writing this until we moved past the content with Aunt Susan because of how explicitly vile she is. I was chatting with a friend about the family politics, because I am convinced that Aunt Susan resents Gav’s grandmother for leaving all of her wealth to Gav. I think she wants Gav to go to America so she can take over the house and his rentals. Unlike with the Gameboys movie, I’m relieved that we’ve had time for Terrence and Wesley to get more development. These guys are really young, and I am regularly reminded of that because of the things they feel. Everything is so raw and new for them.
We finally reached the Gav breakdown. I don’t like to see the characters suffer, but I do love when the sunshine character breaks and the grumpy one has to care for them. Very excited about the fight between Achilles and Wesley next week!
21 Days Theory (Rookie Thailand YouTube) 8.5 - FINALLY! A spiritual successor to Make It Right that looks good (sideeyes Thank God It’s Friday). I have said I’m over school set shows and this show arrived to call me a liar! I love it! I love that X knows how adults perceive him and actively uses that to manipulate adults. This looks like it’s going to be messy the way only high school boys can be and I am totally here for it. Like @absolutebl, I will never apologize for my love of Make It Right.
Coffee Melody (Viki) 8.5 - I did not like Duen Yi this week, but I like that the narrative thus far seems to know that he’s a spoiled brat with little regard for others. Plengruk has made his attitude about starting a relationship clear from the beginning, and it was so wrong to call him selfish for not wanting to give more than he has already offered. I don’t care how good the dick game is; Plengruk has not misled Duen Yi once. I need to see Duen Yi apologize to Plengruk.
Not sure what’s going on long-term for the boy with the pink hair. Hoping we pick up with the scene in the family home next week, because I want to see how the parents treat Ai after this confrontation.
Papa & Daddy Season 2 (Gaga) 8.5 - My domestic gays are back and it’s such a mess! I’m not enjoying the way Jimmy and Kate have forced Damien and Jerry back into the closet, but I do like that there’s a complexity to it all. It is also deeply sad that they forced Kai to participate in this. I am enjoying myself, however, because I love blended family stories. Jimmy and Jerry connecting is everything for me, but I do feel bad for Kate that she flew all the way to Taiwan to get rejected by her son (who she has raised alone this whole time). Not looking forward to Jerry’s parents pushing him to have a biological child soon.
I am always advocating for people to watch What Did You Eat Yesterday? and am so glad Taiwan took their own crack at long-term domesticity as the leader of gay marriage.
Vice Versa (GMMTV YouTube) 8.5 - I am struggling with Puen, because so much of him feels artificial. I don’t think he fully appreciates how seriously Talay takes their responsibility to the bodies and lives they’re currently occupying. I sometimes think the show is doing a disservice to Talay because we haven’t seen Ohm and Nanon in a while. How can we root for these guys to have intimate moments when they aren’t in their real bodies? At what point do we accept that this is now their bodies? It’s an unexpected turn. I did not expect this to join Minato’s Laundromat in making me want the leads to NOT engage in intimacy at this time.
Love Mechanics (WeTV) 8 - I have said mess really isn’t my thing. While I didn’t hate Mark teaming up with his ex to push Vee away, I continue to lament how long this show is. I just think that with Japan and Korea doing so much with 25-30 minutes, these slow-paced Thai shows aren’t going to do it for me as much anymore.
War of Y (AIS Play Youtube $$) 8 - I have conflicted feelings about Billy and Seng being paired in this show, but I am glad that Seng gets to play a character under so much social media scrutiny. He’s received unkind comments online for years, and it’s interesting that he’s playing back-to-back character suffering under the weight of public expectation. Surprise appearing in the show was unexpected, and it illicit immediate strong feelings about how flimsy most BL ships actually are, what with his character being immediately paired with Pharaoh.
I’m not taking this frustration out on my rating, but I do think I’m going to possibly drop this show because of the subtitles situation. There is just too much critical information being delivered via untranslated text for me to fully enjoy the experience.
Senpai, This Can’t Be Love! (Gaga or Viki) 7 - This show really let me down in episode 7. I’ve already been frustrated with the weird motion issues I’m having on my TV with this show on Gaga and Viki, and then they totally botch the year apart for me. I hate that these two clearly haven’t spoken in a year, and it really just killed the vibe. I’ll be relieved when this wraps tomorrow, and I hope that Takara-kun to Amagi-kun is better next week.
On Cloud 9 (Mind Trio YouTube) 5 - I’m dropping this. I love atmospheric and moody BL, but I need a plot or theme to follow.
Not BL
I feel like there’s a lot here to cover.
Extraordinary Attorney Woo (Netflix) 10 - I continue to have a great time with this show, and am still here with the current conflicts. I feel like I talk to @kyr-kun-chan about this show almost every day now. I’m actually kinda sad that it’s ending next week.
Kingdom (Netflix) 10 - I watched both seasons and the movie. This was such a great experience. I don’t know that the Game of Thrones comparison is necessarily a great one, but this has been the best use of zombies I’ve seen in a long time. The ending of the second season was so unexpected for me that I will be forever disappointed if we don’t follow up on this show.
The Silent Sea (Netflix) 9 - I really miss this kind of narrow sci-fi. I loved all of the ideas just thrown at the wall of this show and how earnestly everyone played their roles. Everyone understood that sci-fi characters are archetypes that stand in for various social commentary and fully leaned in. Also, Gong Yoo is just so fine. I will continue to watch the Bae Doona shows on Netflix.
The Sandman (Netflix) 8 - I’m not a Gaiman fan, but I do like his ideas around anthropomorphizing concepts into people. I’m about two episodes in, but have been too busy to really commit more time. It’s intriguing to watch, but I’m not gripped.
