It’s been a bad week. A lot of people are hurting right now. Your Jewish friends are hurting. Your Palestinian friends are hurting.

And yet, I’ve had one - one - gentile acquaintance reach out to see if I’m okay. I’ve seen some truly vile stuff this week. People I thought were leftist allies have been throwing around antisemitic slurs and conspiracies. People have told me and other Jews point blank that we don’t deserve human rights. People have been absolutely silent when others said nauseating things.

And almost nobody except other Jews has said a word about that to me. I am left with three possible conclusions: 1) that people don’t know why Jews across the globe would be so shocked and traumatized this week; 2) that they know and don’t care; or 3) that they know and don’t think we deserve support because we’re all secretly or not-so-secretly Zionist scum, right?

(For the record, yes, I am pro-Palestine. Basic human rights are not even a question to me. And I wish Bibi and his cronies a very walk into the sea. But I also happen to believe in the human rights of Israelis and Jews everywhere. Yes, I do my part to help - I just don’t talk about it here.)
