I wish people understood that "folk magic" isn't just another homogenous flavor or type of magic, it's literally unique and different depending upon where you are in the world. Every culture and belief system will have folk magic and practices. They aren't 1:1. Some will have similar or overlapping elements, sure, but they're unique to where they come from and who they're practiced by, to the degree that two different individuals in the same area from the same culture could have completely different practices and methods. Often they lack larger structures and systems.

About
Hey there, I'm H (they/them) and this is my side blog focusing on (practical) herbalism and herbal medicine.
There's also a lot of content relating to: medical chemistry, foraging, healthy recipes, cultivation and harvesting, bushcraft, and hunting/fishing.
There will be some content relating to: ethical/humane omnivorism, locavorism, animal welfare, worker's welfare and rights, anti macro farm / intensive farming, land stewardship, and environmentalism, though my blog specifically for ethical omnivorism is ethical-omnivore-h.
My main is homo-adaptionem. My witchcraft blog is grotesque-grimoire. My youTube channel is H. adaptionem. You can see all of my playlists at h-adaptionem.tumblr.com/ytplaylists. Misc Series, including Practical Herbalism: h-adaptionem.tumblr.com/miscseriesytpl.
I'm a witch, a home cook, a novice herbalist, a novice forager, and a newbie ethical onmivorous flexitarian. I am NOT an activist, just a dipshit with opinions!

Blog info below; I recommend reading before you view the rest of the blog; definitely read before following. Enter at your own risk.
TL;DR:
disabled, LGBT, an adult
EXCESSIVE TAGGER; most trigger tags have "CW" before them; tags all slurs
doesn't mind like/reblog spam
doesn't check mentions or replies; send an ask if you need to get my attention
OG tags: Answered - asks I've answered Face of H - pics of me pracitcal-herbalist - refers to this blog H. adaptionem - refers to my YT channel of the same name Homo adaptionem - all og posts
Like/reblog spamming is fine, I don't mind at all.
If you want my attention, you have a better shot if you shoot me an ask, as I rarely check my mentions/replies. I have a shit ton of stuff blacklisted, so I may not see your asks/mentions/posts if they include slurs, content triggering to me, etc. It's not that I'm ignoring you, I'm just trying to take better care of my mental health, Y'know? Gotta police my own intake of content, etc. etc.
Most things are tagged, so block what you need to using tumblr's own blocking function, Xkit, or Tumblr Savior. Slurs and triggering content usually have a CW before them, even if the OP doesn't consider the content triggering. I tag excessively, deal with it.
DNIs/DNFs are useless and performative; I just block (& report if needed) who I dislike/etc, and I block liberally, for any reason. I respect most other people's DNIs, if they're accessible. If I can't read it, I won't bother. Don't like me? Block me.
I block anti-vaccine, anti-science, anti-chemo, anti-recovery, anti-medicine types, and those who promote quackery and fake "treatments" or "cures" on sight. This includes: New Agers, starseeds/indigo children, crystal healers, energy healers, faith healers, etc.
I block radfems of all types (febfems, perfs, terfs, tirfs, twerfs, swerfs, etc.) because their underlying rhetoric & theory goes completely against our understanding of biology, neurology, sex, gender, and DNA. Also they're sexist and LGBTphobic lmao
I also block trad weirdos (not trad goths, you are loved here <3) for reasons I hope are obvious. I'm a bisexual tranny they/them who hates organized religion, hugs trees and despises big oil, loves weird ass porn & kinks, and loves bodily autonomy & thinks abortion, tattoos, piercings, & transitioning is cool. You like natural medicine because you're under the delusion that it's a part of your (bigoted) heritage. I like natural medicine because chemistry is cool and plants are neat. We are not the same.

Hey there, I'm H (they/them) and this is my tumblr blog for my YouTube channel.
My YouTube channel is H. adaptionem; I post roughly the same kinda stuff there, except you have to look at my face and hear my voice
My main blog is homo-adaptionem. My research blog for my YT is h-a-reference-research-resources. You can see all of my playlists at h-adaptionem.tumblr.com/ytplaylists You can see my backlog of videos at h-adaptionem.tumblr.com/videobacklog Read the FAQ here: h-adaptionem.tumblr.com/faq I have an Instagram, theadaptinghuman, but I mainly use it for looking at other's stuff rather than posting my own.
H. adaptionem stands for "Homo adaptionem", which means "the adapting human", because I felt "sapien" was a bit too generous for a dumbass like me. Sadly, YouTube would penalize me if my channel name included "homo" in it, so we get H. adaptionem instead. I made this blog so I could link to my tumblr without getting penalized for my descriptions containing "homo".
DISCLAIMER: My videos are not intended for children. They contain crude humor, foul language, and adult topics. Yes, even those that focus on toys, cartoons, and other "childish" things. I'm not a babysitter and I should not be expected to cater to children or their useless parents/guardians.
REMEMBER TO TURN ON ADBLOCKER AND KEEP IT ON! I do not run ads on my videos and I don't make any money off of them! ANY ADS YOU SEE ARE THOSE YOUTUBE IS PLACING SO THEY MAKE MONEY OFF OF MY CONTENT! Fuck ads, fuck capitalism, fuck corporations! Use that sexy, sexy adblock!!! 🖤
My favorite YouTubers include blameitonjorge, Brutal Moose, TheGamerFromMars, Jenna Marbles, Justin Whang, Reignbot, ScareTheater, SomeOrdinaryGamers, and xCanadensis, among MANY others. Those are the vibes I want for this channel: a person talking about, doing, and sharing things they enjoy. This channel is a hobby, so I post according to my schedule and my life.
Some recurring series (some not yet posted; all planned; some currently filming)
"Bone Asp the Teeth" (🦴🐍🦷) a cooking and food focused series
"Tragic Reality" where I talk about true historical tragic events (hopefully respectfully and tastefully)
"Urban Legends" where I talk about urban legends, creepypasta, folklore, mythology, and cryptids
"Weird Reality" where I talk about strange true stuff
"Witch Wednesday" a series that includes workings, recipes, and discussions about witchcraft
I try to release Bone Asp the Teeth on Tuesdays (Chewsday), and Witch Wednesday on… well, Wednesday. Other than that, there's no real schedule. I film what I want, edit when I want, and post when I want.
Anyway, thanks for reading, and stay safe and stay weird.

Random Witch Tips
If you're going to use a mortar & pestle, invest in one that is stone/metal. Wooden ones are more common and accessible, but they're kinda shit from my experience. They don't last as long, they're not nearly as strong (seriously, the one's I've used couldn't pulverize fucking dried rosemary, c'mon), the wood can splinter off and contaminate your product(s), and then there's bacterial issues if the wood isn't properly sealed, which can also be an issue if the sealant/protectant begins chipping into your product.
Make sure you're actually going to use something more than once before you buy it. Do you really need that cauldron, or can you use a metal pot instead? Do you really need those crystals, or can you enchant a stone or something else to serve their purpose(s)? Do you need a fancy wand or can you use a twig or a pencil? Money doesn't grow on trees, but apples do. Are you buying something to use or to have? To be a tool or a decoration? (No hate if you want it for aesthetics)
Try to use old kitchen spices for witchcraft. Use newer spices/herbs for cooking; you'll get more of the flavor. Before you go shopping for an ingredient for magic, look in your pantry/spice rack. Use what you already have there, especially if they're older. Get newer spices to cook with. And don't be afraid to split ingredients between cooking and crafting; it's literally fine. Watch out for cross-contamination and you'll be ok.
Fabric is more useful for pouches that will be kept in the pocket, tight spaces, or traveled with. Bottles/jars are more useful for workings that will remain stationary, or those that contain liquid elements. Tiny charm jewelry bottles can work well for subtle/hidden magic. Use peat pods (decompostable flower pots) for workings that are to be buried. Do not throw workings into lakes, ponds, rivers, streams, or the ocean; that's littering and is damaging to the local ecology.
If you don't have space (or items) for a physical altar, digital altars are limitless. Make one in ms paint or photoshop; make a tumblr blog or pinterest board; make an altar in minecraft, animal crossing, dreamlight valley, skyrim, or whatever. Some might say it's cringe, but it saves space and gives you more freedom with design and items without costing much money.
Don't make a travel altar if you're not going to travel. Trust me. It'll sit in your closet or your desk or under your bed and just never get used. The water will dry up, the salt will clump, and the oils in the incense will end up eating through other things. If you don't need it, don't waste time and resources making one. You can plan them and design them all you want though, it's fun. But take it from someone who's done it more times than they should: they're useless if you're not actually going anywhere. (I plan to make a post(s) all about this when my spoons allow it)

Writing books on witchcraft is fun.
Is it nonfiction? Technically.
Is it fiction? Also technically.
I love gray areas.

I hate that radfems have claimed the uterus as a symbol because it's honestly such a cool ass organ.
It's the size of like a fist normally, but can grow like ten times it's size when it GROWS A BABY INSIDE OF IT.
When it isn't holding a baby, it sheds it's own inner lining!!! IT FUCKING PEELS ITSELF LEAVING A BLOODY MESS!!! That's so fucking metal!!!
It's such a cool organ! Easily top ten.

My roomie bought me some spellworking dice, and while I was originally just in it for the gimmick, I think they could legitimately be useful in spellwork and spellcrafting. Might need to make a video on them, as well as how to DIY them, since they essentially just use 4 fancy D6s.

Urbex Tips
Urban Exploration tips:
Learn basic first aid & bring a first aid kit.
Don't go in alone. Bring at least two other people.
Build up your strength before hand.
You need a tetanus shot every 10 years. If you haven't had one in the last 10 years, get one before you start.
If you're asthmatic, bring your inhaler.
Do research on the building / area beforehand. Figure out why it's abandoned. Learn the history. If it's condemned, find out why. Could be health reasons.
Enter at your own risk.
Tell a trusted person(s) where you're going. Give them the location of any places you're exploring. This is in case something happens, they know where you are/were going. Make sure they know who you're going with.
Hard hats. Being serious. Shit falls, even in "newer" buildings.
Wear gloves (thick leather work gloves, not that plastic faux leather shit, actual leather. not disposables, they won't do shit against glass and metal), goggles (to protect your eyes), a face mask (ideally construction-grade but the fabric types will work well enough), thick, long pants (like jeans), work or hiking boots, long sleeves, and something to cover your hair, like a beanie. If you've got long hair, put it in a ponytail and stuff it under the hat. Trust me. Also deodorant is a good idea.
Invest in a headlamp (easier than using a flashlight)
Avoid the "white 16 year old boy with friends" mentality. Don't do stupid shit because it's funny. If that floor seems unstable, avoid it. Don't smash shit. Don't jump down dark holes.
Don't steal shit. It's tempting, but I don't recommend it.
Avoid tagging / making graffiti, esp identifying graff. Again, tempting, but you can still get in trouble for it.
If someone catches you, BAIL. Don't get into a fight. Don't stick around for pigs to show up. Don't engage, just get out of there. Most of the time, urbex is trespassing.
If you find (which you probably won't) large sums of money, it might be best to report it. It could be stolen or counterfeit and get you in trouble if you use it. But ultimately it's your own choice.
If you find (which you probably won't) bloody clothing, blood-covered knives (or other weapons), or a gun, report it. Fuck pigs yada yada, but it could be connected to someone's death. Don't touch anything, don't take anything, just call the authorities and tell them where it is. I mention this because it could be connected to the assault or murder of sex workers, partners, and/or minorities.
If you find drugs (which you probably won't), report it. Don't use it. Could be laced. Not safe to use, bro, not worth it.
If you find a body(s), (which you probably won't), report it. Check for a pulse, but if the body is cold and/or stiff, call the authorities. If they're still warm, you can try CPR on them while you call for an ambulance. If they have a pulse, call an ambulance. If it looks like they're ODing, use some narcan if you've got it.
If you find Satantic imagery or whatever, 9 times out of 10 it's just teens fucking around. Like I promise you, they were probably left by some guys wanting to cause a stir or trying to make their own ARG or something.
The building isn't haunted, sorry to say. There are rational explanations for every "supernatural" thing you'll encounter. Sometimes they're the aforementioned guys. If you're superstitious, scared of the dark, easily frightened, or suffer from psychosis, you're probably gonna have a bad time.
You may encounter looters, homeless folks, addicts, and/or mentally ill/disabled folks. Try to avoid confrontation. Let them be. If they're alive and unharmed, leave them alone. If they're injured or ODing, attempt first aid (narcan, tourniquets, compresses, etc.) and call an ambulance. No pigs, just medical help.
Watch out for animals. Don't pet them. Don't hurt them. Leave them alone. Also watch out for snakes, esp in buildings with a lot of concrete or gravel.
Don't wear iconic or identifying clothing. Don't worry about looking nice. Don't wear shit you like because it WILL get torn, stained, and trashed.
Just… never assume you're alone.
Feel free to reblog with other tips.

Activities, clothing, accessories, jobs, hobbies, etc. are genderless, yes, and it's stupid to gender things needlessly.
But if a trans/nb person says that something gives them gender euphoria, just keep your mouth shut. Whether said things conform to stereotypical gender roles or not.
IDK just let trans people be happy.
