Elsa’s powers appreciation (part 2 of 3) - Freezing
To recap, I’d like to classify Elsa’s powers into 3 categories and 3 posts - making things out of ice/snow (part 1), freezing (and melting) and movement/kinetic energy.
Before I dive into part 2 - I received some comments on the first post about Elsa’s ice decorations on Arendelle castle, which I missed out on. I would classify them as medium sized objects that she creates out of ice =)
What is the difference between part 1 and part 2? Well, I make a distinction between her creating something that was not there, versus her freezing (ie lowering the temperature of) something that is already there. Of course this is just my opinion and some are arguable, such as the snowstorms - you could say she created it or you could say she froze the weather.
1. Small-scale freezing
Tumblr media
In the first row, she freezes window sills both as a child and as Queen: in between, she is freezing the scepter and orb before the coronation (and also during the coronation itself).
In the second row, she freezes water under her foot and discovers she can walk on water. To the right, are 2 contrasting examples of her freezing the water fountain. In the first, she physically touched the fountain; in the second, she has “levelled up” and can freeze the fountain without physical touch.
2. Freezing the room she is in + the floor of the Enchanted forest
Tumblr media
In the first row, she freezes the floor of the great hall (and the whole hall too); next to it is the sad scene after her parents’ funeral, which she didn’t dare to attend for fear of hurting everyone in her grief; rightmost, she is freezing the room within the ice palace and causing a mini snowstorm. (for snowstorms, she also uses her kinetic powers which I will cover in the third post)
In the second row are the two times she froze the forest floor, first to stop the Northuldra and Mattias’ soldiers; second during her fight with Bruni.
3. Further lowering the temperature of an already cold place
Tumblr media
I want to point this out cos she does it quite a lot. Her powers are just THAT awesome! In the first row, in her anguish from hurting Anna, she lowers the temperature of the already cold great hall, causing more ice to form on the already icy floor and to spread up the walls (2nd pic) Next to it, in the ice palace, as she despairs while talking to Anna, we hear the sound of ice forming and we see more ice fractals appearing in the castle walls (which are made of ice and are already cold).
In the second row, with the castle glowing red, again more ice fractals appear and icy spikes form on the walls. On the right is a screencap from the dungeon scene showing more ice forming on the walls as Elsa’s emotions cause the temperature to drop further.
4. Freezing an entire geographical area + weather
Tumblr media
This hardly needs description. She freezes the entire fjord and causes it to snow in summer in Arendelle.
Later on, after breaking out of the dungeon, her panic causes a massive snowstorm to form around her (again, snowstorms also involve her kinetic powers), engulfing the castle and lowering the temperature even further, such that huge spikes of ice block Olaf and Anna’s path inside the castle; also, so much snow blankets the castle that Anna is able to slide down the side of the castle safely to the ground. The storm also causes the fjord to freeze even colder; some of the ships move as a result of the warping ice and one of them topples and almost falls on Kristoff and Sven.
In the final image (post Great Thaw), Elsa has got it under control and is able to make it snow in a controlled manner and only in the castle courtyard.
Not shown is the epilogue of F2 where she has frozen the Dark Sea and gallops over it on Nokk.
5. Her hair
Tumblr media
Haha, now for something light hearted. You can argue that this is a separate power, but I’d like to think that she froze parts of her hair in place to give her iconic hair do. Watch the progression of the screencaps - her long locks by the side of her face initially drape down, and with a sweep of her right and then left hand, they get plastered to the side of her head. Magic frozen hairspray...
6. Uniquely Olaf
Tumblr media
Have you ever stopped to consider that the magical personal “flurry” that Elsa made for Olaf is pretty mindblowing? She literally made a mobile, perpetual freezer! ie, a localized zone of cold temperature that is cold enough to snow and keep Olaf from melting, AND follows him everywhere! To put it another way, in 1840s Arendelle, Elsa has invented a fridge! (that follows you) Wouldn’t every household want one of their own for those hot summer days?
Olaf’s permafrost is similar and a little bit frightening if you see it as Elsa “encasing” you in ice. She can permafrost all her sentient creations including Marshmallow and the snowgies now.
7. Freezing head and heart
Tumblr media
This is one of the darkest sides of Elsa’s powers. She is able to send her freezing powers “into” a person and if it is the head - knock the person unconscious and turn some hair white; if it is the heart, the person freezes from within and their hair will turn all white like Elsa’s, prior to becoming an immobile statue of ice. Do you know what this reminds me of? I watched a nature documentary on certain parasites which infect insects and take over their mind before killing them from within. Could Elsa control your mind? I think Evil Elsa could...and would...(Hell, if Nattmara could...why not Elsa. -FoS)
I like to think that during the fight with Weaseltown’s men, she was falling to the dark side and if that had not been arrested, she could have easily unleashed her powers and frozen the hearts of all her assailants.
BTW, I did not realize before that when she hit Anna in the head, you can see a snowflake impact Anna’s head briefly. (captured in my screencap)
In the second row, I want to point out that frozen Anna’s body was SO COLD that Hans’ sword frosted up before the sword made contact and shattered. And this brings me to the next point...
8. Freeze metal and stone to ultra low temperature that they break
Tumblr media
So I did some research and some metals can shatter once it is colder than a specific temperature called the “ductile to brittle transition temperature”. Cheap non-alloyed steel can shatter at about -30 degrees Celsius. Alloyed steel can withstand much colder temperatures. This is important when building metal structures eg ships and rigs for use in the Arctic or Antarctic. I’m no materials scientist so I’ll let people chip in on this if they wish.
The point is, our Queen CAN FREEZE TO COLDER THAN -30 DEGREES!!! And she sure has superhuman invulnerability to cold! Human skin sticks to cold surfaces.
In the rightmost screencap, Elsa has broken out of a solid stone dungeon! Maybe she blasted it open (we don’t know) but this too is freaking amazing! I did some brief research and this is called frost weathering or frost shattering. Essentially she could break through stone by rapidly freezing all the water in it since water expands on freezing. (again, I’m no expert)
It is my belief that in F2, she could have destroyed the dam singlehandedly. Earth Giants pffft. And she would have stopped the water at the source too.
Elsa is definitely impervious to her own cold - she hugs frozen Anna (who is cold enough to break metal) cheek to cheek and is unscathed.
Interestingly, in F2 Anna holds the ice sword that Elsa made without being hurt by the cold - perhaps Anna gained some cold tolerance after coming back from being frozen herself. And she hugs Olaf all the time too.
9. The Nokk + Magic Freezing Thighs
Tumblr media
Elsa is pretty fearsome in combat - I will touch more on this in the third post. Here, she figures out pretty rapidly how to stop the Nokk by freezing him. In the epilogue of F2, one of the most beautiful FX scenes - she freezes the Nokk and he willingly obliges and becomes a beautiful ice horse that can travel on land.
Tumblr media
Have you ever wondered how Elsa stays on the Nokk “bareback”??? (bareback referring to Nokk...although Elsa’s dark sea gown is pretty bare in the back too lol) I know @super-mam-te-moc and I have!
Look at these 3 screencaps - on the left, the Nokk is bucking and thrashing around, trying to shake Elsa off; in the middle, she is riding the Nokk at a speed faster than the tsunami of water; and on the right, the Nokk is rearing up on hind legs while Elsa makes the huge ice wall with her hands in the air. In all these situations Elsa stays firmly on the Nokk and never falls off or slides off!
Our conclusion is - she has magic freezing thighs that help her stick to the Nokk...LOL
10. Melting
Tumblr media
Lastly, Elsa is able to melt everything she made. With the help of Anna’s great love (lovethawmode) she melted the entire fjord and Arendelle. (kinetic powers are at play here too as she makes everything float into the sky and coalesce into a giant snowflake)
In F2, she also demonstrates melting the ice floor that she froze.
What we don’t know yet is whether she can melt “natural” snow that she didn’t make herself, or whether she can reverse a natural winter and turn it into summer. Let’s wait for more out of this world powers in future shorts, movies or series!

A Surprise for Anna
I wanted to participate somehow in Elsanna Week. Idk if I will have time or energy to do more than one prompt but...here we go for Reunion. So- Elsa does something special for Anna!
Getting Anna to agree to her plans for the day was difficult. Elsa understood, she got it, but she really needed Anna to go. She had a surprise for her little sister that she knew she would love.
Anna was a grown woman, a queen alongside her, but she still dug her heels in, crossed her arms and shook her head like a stubborn child. She was having none of it and Elsa had been ready to encase her in ice and have Sven drag her. Fingers were pointed, voices were raised, and threats -  none of which were very serious - were made. It only lasted so long before Anna managed to crack herself up, smile, and laugh. She kissed Elsa on the cheek and said if she made it worth her while later in the bedroom, she'd go.
That didn't mean she would stop whining, though.
Elsa had readily agreed to the terms. She already looked forward to whatever 'revenge' Anna might cook up for later. It was getting to the Ice Palace that was rough.
"We're almost there, Anna," she told her as they rode on a wagon hauled by one of Elsa's big ice bears. "We're almost there and...Anna..."
To her dismay, Anna had balled herself up a bit next to her as they went on an incline. Her eyes were wet and she simply looked ahead. Elsa knew why she didn't like going there. For some while the palace had remained empty, none of the crazy laughter and fun that they would walk into when they visited before Elsa was called by the North Wind. Marshmallow might have been grumpy now and then but the snowgies were always up for some chaos. Usually, Olaf encouraged it.
"We really have to go? Is this surprise worth it?" Anna asked in a small voice. Even the whining she'd been doing was somewhat lighthearted, with moaning about being hungry or her butt falling asleep.
"Anna..." Elsa put her arm around her and tried to bring her closer. It wasn't really working, so she moved her own body, brushing one of Anna's braids out of her way. "It's well worth it. I know you will love it. You'll have the biggest smile you've had in forever," she said quietly, stroking Anna's freckled cheek with her finger. Her skin was warm despite the cold temperature of the breeze around them. The North Mountain was always cold.
"Everyone live in Ahtohallan now. It just...it just makes me think and makes me feel alone, even when I'm in there with you," Anna said with a sniffle, adjusting herself to hug her knees to her chest, fingers digging into into her beige dress. "We go in and it's empty. I don't want to go, Elsa."
She should tell her. Elsa knew she really should tell her. And yet...she knew the joy Anna would feel when they went inside would be incredible. When she saw the surprise she would be so, so happy. At the same time, Anna was clearly upset. She didn't want to be reminded of the period of time they were apart and nothing was as it ever was. While it wasn't truly terrible, according to Anna herself, it'd been a struggle.
Elsa hugged her and kissed her head. Her reaction was yet another sign that she played down how she'd felt in those months. Thinking about it made Elsa's heart hurt.
But she was back. She was back to stay and she was never leaving Anna - her Anna - ever again. Anna was hers to hold close and speak soft, love-laced words too. And she was hers to make happy.
If they could just make the last curve before they actually had to take a short walk to the stairs, it would be okay. Anna was fighting off actually crying and if she did get there Elsa knew she would have to tell her what was going on. So Elsa kissed her head again, and then her cheek. "I promise it'll be worth it. You'll be grinning from ear to ear. I know you will. You might cry from happiness," she told her, lips finding her cheek again.
Anna let out a slow, controlled breath. "Elsa..."
"I promise," Elsa repeated. "And if....if it's just too hard I'll tell you what's going on. We can stop and I'l tell you. It's just that I can't wait to see how thrilled you're going to be," she said, playing with Anna's braid.
Anna studied her quietly and then sighed. "I trust you. I know you really think whatever this is will make me happy and I-I trust you."
For a moment, Elsa simply looked at her. She didn't want to do the wrong thing. She really didn't. Keeping the surprise was a good idea...she was going to stick with it. "Thank you for that. I...thank you," Elsa whispered.
When they arrived at the stop, Elsa hopped out first and went around to offer her hand to Anna. "Come on, darling," she told her, coaxing her sister from the wagon.
Anna slowly took her hand and let Elsa help her down. She leaned into Elsa and then turned fully to wrap her arms around her, running her hands through Elsa's long, loose hair. She didn't appear to be sniffing anymore. She'd managed to swallow her sobs evidently and Elsa hoped that didn't made her feel worse. She squeezed Anna's warm body against her own.
Nothing ever felt so right as Anna did in her arms.
They held hands as they walked through the rocks, Anna's squeezing Elsa's regularly. Anna pointed out where she had tried to mountain climb years prior when searching with Kristoff. She did that each time they visited the palace in the past, and Elsa loved it. Sometimes Anna even imitated where she pushed back from the rock and knew Kristoff would catch her because he was 'a smelly guy, but a nice one'.
Then it was the ice stairs, and Anna was hesitant. With one hand on the glistening railing, Anna bit her bottom lip and stared. Elsa rubbed her back gently, and encouraged her to keep going up. As usual she followed behind her. If Anna slipped, Elsa would easily catch her. She'd done so before, and Anna had giggled and looked up at her before scampering up the stairs to go see everyone.
Elsa watched the usually optimistic girl drag her heels up the ice.
When they arrived at the door, Elsa told her to stop. "Knock!" she told her, stopping beside her. "I uh...knock."
Anna looked at her oddly but raised a fist to bang loudly on the door. Elsa never quite understood why the knocking sounded like a bang on a big wooden door, but if it sounded like ice should sound when hit, she guessed it wouldn't attract as much attention.
The door opened slowly to reveal...
Olaf.
"Olaf?" Anna asked.
The little snowman laughed and waved her in with his stick arm. "Come on in Anna! Come on!" he said and reached for her hand.
Anna took it, shooting Elsa a confused look over her shoulder. Elsa just grinned. She had felt guilty getting Anna all the way up to that door, but there she was...about to be very pleasantly surprised. She followed them both into the ice castle where everything was the same as always, just empty...
Until a figure slide down the icy bannister of the glorious staircase in front of them. One little white figure followed by another. Then another. And another and another! Olaf was giggling and snowgies started to bounce down the stairs on their heads, legs, and midsections. They were laughing and making an awful lot of noise that echoed off the walls of the palace.
"It's..oh! It's Flurry, Sludge - WILLIAM!? Is that you?" Anna squealed, and she and Olaf ran for the bottom of the stairs.
"And Powder and Ansel, even Huggy and Skate - it's everyone!" Olaf said, bouncing around and letting the snowgies take off his head to bounce it around. They were climbing on Anna already, letting her scoop them up and hug them as even more flooded down the stairs.
"Almost everyone," Elsa answered, approaching them. She snapped her fingers and on the balcony above them, heavy footsteps could be heard. Anna looked up along with the snowgies, who turned Olaf's head in the proper direction. A hush fell over the crowd and even the snowgies on the stairs slid and slammed into stops. Elsa waited, excitedly, even though she knew it was obvious who was approaching.
Then Marshmallow made his appearance, peering over the railing at them. "Now, now it EVERYONE!" he bellowed, and the snowgies started to bounce about, once again. Olaf's feet and bottom started flying in the air at random while his head cheered.
Anna clapped her hands and bounced while the flood of snowgies continued to pile around her, lifting her up as Elsa finally made her way to her. Elsa wasn't surprised to see her cheeks were wet.
"So, Anna?" she asked as she looked up at her. "Is...was it worth it?" she asked. She felt very silly asking, but she had to be sure Anna was okay.
"Yes!" Anna answered loudly, cheer in her voice. "So worth it! Oh thank you, thank you! Are they...?"
"They're staying." Elsa smiled. "They all wanted to come back." She didn't mention how tired Nokk was of fishing wandering snowgies out of various parts of the Dark Sea.
"Oh!" Anna wiped tears from her eyes. Her mouth opened but she didn't say anything. Instead her lips morphed into a happy smile. She sniffed and wiped more tears before holding her arms out. "Elsa!"
"I-OOP!" Elsa felt herself suddenly lifted. The snowgies surrounded her heels and took the train of her white dress. They latched on and with a just plain weird amount of strength, they lifted her up and brought her to Anna, nearly throwing her on her sister.
Anna's hands and arms found her, bringing her in close for yet another hug. Elsa closed her eyes as she buried her face in Anna's neck, doing nothing but listening to the merriment around them. Olaf was laughing. Marshmallow was making his way down the stairs, the snowgies were absolutely losing their minds. Anna was giggling and the sound was music to her ears.
Everyone was home.

April Contest Submission #23: After Thaw
Words: ca. 2,500 Setting: The Royal Garden, the one Anna visited when she was singing “For the First Time in Forever” Lemon: No CW: None
Anna and Elsa are at the Royal garden taking a break from all the stuff currently going on with their kingdom. Spending yet another afternoon with some picnic baskets and a picnic cloth laid out beneath them. The grass very green and lively, the frogs by the pond croaking harmonious, butterflies flying around them every now and then, one of which even landed on Anna’s nose. Elsa giggled as she shooed the butterfly away from Anna’s face. The older sibling knew that she had to be to one to do it because Anna didn’t have it in her to make the butterfly leave.
She admired her sister’s patience when it comes things like that although in the same vein, Anna is also easily distracted, she wasn’t really the only one though. Whenever Elsa was alone these days, her mind seemed to drift off to the time that she and her sister was isolated from each other. So close yet so far, in the same place but never truly able to see each other. Days spent on a door that was supposed to let people in but always remained closed.
She used to curse Anna’s determination to mend their broken relationship back then. It was so adorable and pure of her sister. She couldn’t seem to stop herself, Elsa loved her more every day because of that but she knew she couldn’t let those feelings drive her actions. It didn’t stop her nonetheless from feeling sundered…broken. Not only her heart but her soul as well. It was only her mind and the mantra her parents told her that kept her from falling apart. Though she heard everything about her crack as time went on with the only exception of her body. It splintered like how ice would when suddenly exposed to warmth. That warmth was her sister and then for a short while she was gone. She had frozen the heart she tried so hard to protect. Her world shattered in that moment.
And then suddenly it wasn’t.
The person that heart belonged to is now alive and well and truth be told she seemed to be very happy and content. She couldn’t have wished for more.
At this moment that she can finally see her smile and be happy and if she is then so is Elsa.
However, the happy and contented look on Anna’s face didn’t stay for very long. Suddenly replaced with a wrinkled forehead and a distant look.
———————————————————————————-
Anna is beyond happy, in fact so much so that she wanted to pause this moment, capture it somehow and keep it locked in a bottle. Just so she can revisit it again in the future or cherish it for the rest of her life. It’s what she has always wanted them to be. Together, having chocolate while enjoying the beautiful scenery. The truth is Anna has seen this place many times, grew up around it, playing in it, even to the point of getting a bit tired of it but now that’s already behind her because right now, she’s here again with someone she loves very dearly, enjoying it with her. Better yet it was like seeing it again for the first time but now even more colorful.
This moment is almost as perfect as that if not only for a question that has been bugging her ever since she woke up this morning, she tried to suppress the questions but it’s only a matter of time until it resurfaced again. Her curiosity getting the best of her. Even with everything that had happened with what people began calling “The Eternal Winter” and “The Great Thawing” she and her sister still felt a bit shy with each other, especially Elsa. Of course, it’s not easy to suddenly open yourself up to other people. Anna even more so with the betrayal of Hans, so she wanted to take their reconciliation a bit slower as to not overwhelm Elsa but Anna has always been inquisitive in nature, sometimes to the point of being called a bit nosey but not everyone has been cooped up inside a castle for most of their life and the only person that might understand what she’s going through is the very person she wanted to interrogate. She had a lot of questions, especially about Elsa’s powers. Her memory although already coming back is a bit jarring. So she wanted to ask, but she didn’t want to spring this up to her sister so suddenly. She knows it’s a bit irrational but she’s afraid that she might weird her sister out so much that she might begin avoiding her.
So deep in a thought Anna didn’t realize her face is showing whatever she’s thinking.
“Hmmm…Anna, you have a question for me?” Elsa hummed more so than said.
At the sound of her sister’s voice. Anna suddenly jolted up feeling like somebody suddenly threw a cold cotton cloth on her face to wake her up, but this time, not because she was sleeping but rather because she was lost in a thought.
“Uhmm…Yes, I do.” Anna quipped back, her voice barely there.
“Mhmm..” Elsa nodded towards her, “So, say it…out loud. I want to hear.” she finished smiling.
Anna started to play with her hair, a habit she couldn’t seem to shake and is becoming a frequent thing that happens whenever her sister addresses her but she saw this moment as an opportunity to finally get closer and get Elsa to open up, so she shallowed her nervousness.
A loud gulp. Anna felt like she swallowed her heart as well but she continued nonetheless. “I’ve always wondered”, she started “how did you, y’know…create Olaf, Marshmallow and the Snowgies?”
“Ohh…I haven’t really thought about that but now that you’ve mentioned it.” Elsa bit her lip thinking. Anna found herself focusing on that but she mentally slapped herself and struggled to keep focus on what Elsa is saying. “I always seem to create Snow people with life whenever you’re there or when I’m thinking of you.”
Anna was stunned for a moment not knowing what the right words are or how to respond but she was interested. She stopped playing with her hair and moved closer to Elsa, giving her full attention. She hopes that her sister gets what she couldn’t say with her mouth as of this moment.
Elsa seemed to have understood though Anna half expected and dreaded her to move away, uncomfortable with their new closeness, unwilling yet to open up. Elsa has always kept a distance between them. Both emotionally and with physically but for some reason unbeknownst to her, even maybe just for today, Elsa had scooted closer to her as well.
“For example, I made Olaf when I was constructing my Ice Castle. I didn’t even know he was alive by then but what I do remember is thinking about you when I was doing so.” Elsa breathed deeply to prepare. For a moment Anna thought she was just imagining the crimson hue in her sister’s cheeks. Maybe it was the sun even affecting her but as soon as Elsa continued to speak that line of thought gets dissolved. “I created Marshmallow when…you know.”
“Don’t worry about that Elsa,” Anna says finally able to find her voice “Go on. I’m here for you, okay?”
Elsa gave her a reserved nod “Ahh..you see I was so afraid when I hit you again with my ice so I just wanted to do something to protect you and in my mind at that time the safest place is the farthest away from me. So, I created Marshmallow.”
Anna also gave her own nod, not as reserved as her sister’s but Elsa understood it nonetheless, even giggled a bit as she continued her recollection of those specific events.
“After that incident as I was thinking about my earlier actions. I felt my heart breaking about what I had to do that day, the thought of never ever seeing you again crashed down on me and I started to break down. My ice seemed to respond to that.” Elsa looks down, Anna held her hand and caressed it to help her keep it together.
“So, uhhh…what happened to your ice?” Anna asked, hoping her tone wasn’t too direct nor confronting.
“It turned red.” Elsa replied almost as instantly as Anna finished
Anna’s eyes which already appeared to be constantly full of wonder got almost impossibly bigger and more astonished “Wow! Your ice can turn red?” she blurted out, she put her hand on her lips, though it’s probably too late but just to make sure she doesn’t follow it through with more babbling. Her nervousness returned for a while until Elsa smiled. However, as Anna hyper focused on this smile on particular she noticed how they’re also sad, it’s not evident on her lips but so very obvious in her eyes.
“Yes  Anna, it does when I’m afraid.” Elsa released a breath she hadn’t notice she have been holding. Her sister was way ahead of her because after her great sigh she was already being enveloped in a hug.
“Oh…Elsa” Anna says concern laced in her voice, “I would have loved to see that but I don’t want you to ever be afraid Elsa. Never again” She let’s go of her sister after. A mixture of feelings in her eyes. She wanted to comfort her but she’s also afraid she might be pushing it already at this point. With her touches and now a hug. She considered telling Elsa that maybe they should continue this another day. Just so she can alleviate some of her discomfort. Burying the fear she has, of Elsa potentially avoiding her in the next days. Due to her usual touchy-feely nature. She couldn’t help it sometimes but Elsa’s feelings do come first before hers. So, if Elsa decided that this is a topic she didn’t feel comfortable talking about. Even though they are sisters and she wanted them to be closer like before or even possibly more. She promised to herself she’d respect that.
“Thank you, Anna.” Elsa said, more relieved and relaxed than she was earlier. She looked at her sister and for some reason smiled again and this time more genuinely. A very content, happy, unreserved smile. The one she had when Anna was unfrozen. Anna welcomed that image into her head. She tried her best to commit it to memory knowing it’s not something that’s easy to do for Elsa. Because of after all they’ve been through and she couldn’t help but cherish the thought that she was the one that had brought it out.
“Now, in case of the Snowgies.” Elsa resumed and Anna’s attention is undivided again. “I didn’t really notice them until they were already too many but around that time, I remember. I really wanted to make it your best birthday but I also felt very stressed because I had to constantly avoid you and not see you in order to prepare the party.” Elsa looked at Anna, mirth in her eyes as she reminisced that time and the redhead giggled.
“Oh Elsa, it was the best birthday I ever had, especially because you were there.” Anna said, her mind seemingly lost as well, remembering that moment in time.
Elsa was lost in a thought too but of a different kind and detail “I guess they were born from my feelings of wanting to do the best for you while also wanting to be with you. Since back then I couldn’t really do both but suddenly now I can.”
“Ohh…so they exist because of me.” Anna put it together in her mind, a blush forming upon her face. “That’s sort of flattering, Elsa.” she replied beyond joy, exhilarated.
“Well, you make me feel a lot of things but…” Elsa trailed off, her smile replaced with wrinkled brows, thinking of the best words to put her thoughts forward.
Anna sported a look that’s both worried and anticipatory. “I would rather experience them than to be away from you again.”  She finally continued, the smile back at her face again full force. “Those times felt so dark but now they felt very distant. Especially now that I’m talking to you.”
Anna looked a bit disheartened, most likely due to the reminder of their days at her closed door. She held Anna’s hand caressing it as well the same way she did earlier to calm her down. Which helped her get the words through and finally out of her mouth. She said it to reassure Anna that it will never happen again but maybe she’s saying it to herself as well.
“Anna, please look at me. I love you and I’ll always be here for you.” She remarked, concern oozing from her voice. She had a feeling that even if her sister knew, she’d still have her doubts. Knowing Anna, she’d try to mask it with a smile. She has mastered that over the years but being sisters that grew in the same house? Palace? They kind of share a connection, in a way which let them know what the other feels. Even if they don’t outright say it, most of the time.
“Of course, Elsa. I love you too.” Elsa’s heart flutters as she hears. She doesn’t know why, but she welcomed the feeling.
She looked up at the hulking building that they resided in. Whatever this place was before that both confined and separated them for the longest of times. Elsa promised to herself that not only will she make up for the time they have lost but that she’ll make sure it never becomes that place ever again. She wanted to open up and tell Anna everything but she figured there’s no need to rush. They can take things slow and she didn’t want to hurt her sister again, be it intentional or unintentionally.
“I…I’m happy too than we can be together now.” Anna said on the verge of tears but Elsa could tell that it’s the happy kind of tears.
Anna felt like she and Elsa just had a breakthrough, that even for just a little moment, the walls that has separated them isn’t as imposing as it used to be. She clinged to that hope, it was such a wonderful feeling to have. For Elsa to finally open up to her, even trusting her enough to finally talk about her powers.
A quiet moment has befallen them, but it was a comfortable silence as opposed to an awkward one. So, Elsa decided to welcome it. She reaches for her hot chocolate, although due to the time that has passed with them talking, she reckoned it might be already too cold but even that couldn’t sour her mood right now. So, she drank from it, not caring for the cold that has seeped in all the temperature from the cup. The cold never bothered her anyway.
“Wait,” Anna notes, her inquisitive look back at her face again. Elsa continued to drink from her cup although she still listened attentively.
“If you created them and they exist because of me. Does that mean I’m their father?”
Elsa choked on her chocolate drink.
Anna cursed herself for her ability to blurt out whatever is on her head, instead of just thinking it.

I just got home from the Frozen 2 advanced screening at Disney Studios (as pictured above, got more swag than I thought I would). Gonna give my immediate thoughts and comments, with a more coherent post at a later date. Obviously, if you don’t want to be spoiled, don’t read below:
WARNING! MAJOR FROZEN 2 SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT!
-I’ve been listening to “Show Yourself” non stop since the soundtrack came out and it was gorgeous seeing the accompanying animation. The song starts as Elsa is riding Nokk towards Ahtohallan and continues as she makes her way through the cave. What was also unexpected for me is that she transforms into her “final form” at the end of the song, so she’s wearing that outfit throughout a good portion of the movie, not just the epilogue, so I hope that means there will be more merchandise for it!
-After that, she wanders through Ahtohallan which is made up of moving “sculptures” made of snow/ice that show memories: she sees some of herself and Anna when they were young playing with Olaf, various people in Arendelle, and of Iduna and Agnarr (I believe Iduna was saying something about being afraid to reveal what she really is, a Northuldra). Some funny parts, Elsa walks by a memory of herself at the end of “Let It Go” and makes a face like “yeah, I was silly back then” XD But the best part was when she walks by a scene of Anna and Hans about to dance at the coronation. She gives it a cold look and then breaks the Hans sculpture, lol.
-The important memory she finds is that King Runeard was using the dam against the Northuldra - something about cutting off their resources so they’d be forced to trade with Arendelle, or something like that, I don’t remember exactly. A poignant part was when Elsa first sees the memory of Runeard and he’s talking about how he hates and doesn’t trust anyone who uses magic, to which she says angrily that his fear is blinding him. And again, Elsa is wearing her final outfit during all this, so there was so much time to ogle it XD
-The “gone too far” part is when she follows the memory of Runeard as it fades down into a deep abyss. He was talking about something suspicious regarding the Northuldra, so she decided to jump down into the depths to find out even though she remembers the song’s warning. She sees that Runeard attacked (and likely killed) the Northuldra leader. She begins freezing as she’s down there and before she gets completely frozen, she sends a burst of magic up above, calling out to Anna (and the fact that Elsa “dies” here is proof that she’s not immortal even after becoming the fifth spirit). Her magic reaches Anna and Olaf in the cave and shows them what happened. They realize they have to destroy the dam but Olaf starts to “flurry” - pieces of snowflakes peel off him and drift away, and he tells Anna that Elsa isn’t okay. Anna pulls Olaf into her lap and holds him there as he fades away. He doesn’t melt exactly and we don’t see the full process: we see his flurries gently flow out of the cave and land in a pile somewhere else. Bruhni watches sadly from a ledge below.
-The saddest thing to me was that, after the aforementioned scene of Olaf’s “death,” the scene fades to black, then opens up again overlooking the same cave but it looks like a different time of day, then cuts to Anna crying inside - so she was literally crying alone in the cave for what could have been hours! I thought right after Olaf melts is when she’d start singing The Next Right Thing, but she spends who knows how long grieving. That is just too sad 8_8 Before she starts singing, she says “Olaf...Elsa...what do I do?” My heart shattered then. Another part that shattered it more was when Anna confronts Matthias and the soldiers as they try to prevent her from approaching the dam. When they ask her why it has to be destroyed, she tells them and says “My sister gave her life for the truth, we can’t lose anyone else.”
-Oh my gosh, the reunion at the end was my favorite part and so sweet~ After the mist around the forest fades, Anna and Kristoff approach the pillars with Anna looking like she’s ready to burst into tears...until some snow crystals flutter around her and then behind to where the shore is (not sure if it’s the shore of the Dark Sea since it’s daylight at this time, or it could just be a nearby beach). She sees Elsa riding Nokk - she starts running toward her but then stops because she’s still not sure it’s really Elsa. When Elsa says her name and holds out her arms, she runs to her and they share a beautiful hug (while Anna is sobbing). Honestly I can’t remember exactly what was said because I was an emotional wreck at that point, but Elsa tells Anna that she’s the fifth spirit, that Anna saved her, and that the bridge has two sides: herself here and Anna in Arendelle, and they’d fix the past wrongs together. And I also loved the fact that Kristoff comes over and is relieved that Elsa’s okay: he says “Elsa, you’re alright!” and gives her a hug, then (humorously) says “ you look different...did you cut your hair?” She also gives Sven a little pet. I’m so glad they included this part as it shows that Kristoff doesn’t just see Elsa as a cockblock to Anna, lol. Kristoff proposes to Anna here as well (Sven tears up a little seeing it XD)
-As for Olaf’s revival, Elsa tells Anna “I have a question for you” “What is it?” “Do you want to build a snowman?” She then concentrates and we see the pile of Olaf’s “flurries” come flying down from the cave to become Olaf again. Elsa says it’s a good thing water has memory, implying that he still remembers everything despite being “resurrected.” The epilogue just had so many cute moments - Anna and Elsa share another hug as they walk back to the stone pillars, Elsa wipes away a tear on Anna’s face, they put there foreheads together at one point when they’re talking, Elsa takes Anna’s hand and leads her to one of the now tamed earth giants and they both gently touch his giant nose, and Frohana share a warm hug. I cannot wait to get HD screenshots of it all!
-And for Anna’s coronation? To be honest, it didn’t seem like a coronation to me - it literally just had Kai announcing Anna as she walks outside (onto a stage I think? Don’t remember exactly) but right after that she’s out in the streets with Olaf, Kristoff, and Sven, who are dressed up. So it must have been some kind of event, but wouldn’t the coronation have a party in the castle and a ceremony, like Elsa had? We then see Matthias outside with another Arendelle citizen (he’s discovering the new technology of photograph, lol) - wouldn’t they be part of the ceremony if there was a coronation, and not just out in the streets doing whatever. It just didn’t seem like a major event was happening, I’ll have to see the movie again. Regardless, they reveal statues of young Iduna and Agnarr (they should have had statues of Anna and Elsa too!) and Anna notices Gale flying about and asks if he/she (does Gale have a gender?) to deliver a letter to Elsa. Gale carries it over to the forest and Elsa reads it. As we know, it’s a reminder about charades. Anna ends the letter saying “I love you” to which Elsa says “I love you too, sis” (that’s where this line that we heard in one of the teasers came from - pretty crazy they’d use a line from the very end of the movie, knowing we wouldn’t figure it out!)
-I mostly talked about the ending here but I’ll say a few things that stood out in the rest of the movie to me: Some Things Never Change was adorable. Anna and Elsa share a sweet hug at the end, during the “holding on tight to you” lines. And I absolutely cracked up during Kristoff’s verse when he’s doing Sven’s voice and telling him about getting down on one knee with the ring - some nearby townspeople see him and it looks like he’s proposing to Sven and they get the most awkward looks on their faces XD The scene in their parents’ ship was really emotional: Anna and Elsa clinging to each other with tears in their eyes as they see the memory of their parents take shape...my heart was breaking. The ensuing scene where Elsa’s overcome with guilt and runs outside with Anna telling her she’s not responsible for their actions, and she believes in her more than anything, etc., More was said between them here and I’m having trouble remembering it exactly but it was deep.
-Oh, and the post-credits scene was hilarious: it’s Olaf telling the events of the story to Marshmallow and the Snowgies (Frozen Fever is canon!) just like he does earlier when he describes the first Frozen to Matthias and the others (”it began with two sisters...”) The funniest part was his dramatizing lines of the latter part of the story - ”Elsa is dead,” “Olaf is dead,” “Anna’s crying alone” - it’s hard to describe, it’s funnier when you see it.
Later I’ll write a post with more coherent thoughts about the movie itself and not just a spoiler list - I might do that soon or wait until I see it again this weekend. But I will say that I loved it - having seen it for myself, I truly believe there’s no “tragic separation” that we’ve been fearing. There’s really nothing bittersweet about it, nothing like Anna saying “will I ever see you again?” because it’s a given that they can still be a family and nothing is keeping them from seeing each other whenever they want. At this point, it’s not that I dislike the ending as it is “I want to see what happens next!” It left me even hungrier for more Frozen, like a short reassuring us that they’re still a family by having another charades scene or something like that. Or another movie is always welcome! There was also some lore/plot-wise things I’m a little confused about, but that’ll be for another post. It’s 1am here and I need to decide if I can sleep or not, lol. If you have any questions, please send them via direct message. I’ll either answer them right away, or tomorrow if I do manage to sleep tonight.
The shock of finally seeing this movie after six years of pining hasn’t sunk in yet but it will soon.

Hello darkness
“Come on. Elsa is probably on her way back right now. We can meet her and-” Anna said, looking around the cavern with the torch she had made. She was anxious to reunite with her sister. She did not like being away from Elsa. Then she noticed that there were snowflakes flurrying around the cave. She turned to look back. “Olaf?”
Olaf felt something change, he shook his head to try clearing it, then he noticed snowflakes flurrying around him.
“What’s this?” He said, reaching out to the flakes.
“Are you okay?” Anna asked. It wasn’t normal for him to shed snowflakes.
“I’m flurrying?” He asked in wonder.
“I’m flurrying…away. The magic in me is…fading.” He said understanding now. He couldn’t feel Elsa anymore. He couldn’t feel mama.
“What?” Anna asked. Her mind didn’t want to accept what that meant. Elsa couldn’t be dead. Please, not that.
“I don’t think Elsa is okay.” Olaf explained. “I think… she may have gone too far.”
“No. No.” Anna said coming and kneeling before the little snowman. Please, great Crocus. Not again. She’d just watched her parents die less then an hour ago.
“Anna?” He waited to make sure he had her attention. This was important.
“I’m sorry. You’re gonna have to do the next part on your own. Okay?”
“Wait.” She plead. This couldn’t be happening. They were supposed to stay together. She didn’t want to hold another funeral alone again.
“Come here. I got you.” Her world was coming apart. Anna pulled him into her arms and held him close.
“Hey Anna? I’ve just thought of something that’s permanent.”
“What’s that?”
“Love.” Yeah, she knew that.
“Warm hugs?” She asked as tears streamed down her face.
“I like warm hugs.”
“I love you.” He wanted to answer but he was too weak now.
***
Far to the South
“We have the families placed at a few of the local villages. It appears that only Arendelle itself is effected by this magic.” The captain reported.
“Good.” Kai said as he inspected the relief wagons. The townspeople who wanted to stay were already unloading the tents, blankets and food. “The queen should be back before too long once she has found out why this all is happening.”
A loud crash came from the valley below.
“What’s happening!?” Everyone rushed to the edge of the cliffs to look down at the castle. One by one the beautiful ice columns that decorated the castle came crashing down.
“What does-What does this mean?” Kai asked GranPabbie.
“I don’t know, but I fear the worst for Elsa.”
Finally the large snowflake from the top of the castle drooped, fell and shattered across the courtyard.
Gerda hugged Kai.
***
Marshmallow sat on the top floor of the Ice Palace gently petting Crystal as the rest of the Snowgies ran in a counter-clockwise circle around him. Sludge fell over and they started running clockwise instead. Marshmallow continued to pet Crystal.
Something change within him, something was not the same. Something was wrong, very wrong. He leapt to his feet and looked North.
Mama was in trouble.
He bounded to the stairs with the Snowgies around him. He put Crystal on his shoulder. It was a mad dash down the stairs.
Flurries of magic snowflakes began to float around the stairs. William fell and burst into a pile of snowflakes.
“No.” Marshmallow rumbled as they all slid to a stop at the base of the stairs. The Ice Palace was melting, the stairs outside shattered and fell into the ravine.
They looked up to him and he was looking around trying to think of something to do as more Snowgies faded into flurries.
Marshmallow could feel it happening to him too.
He sat and gathered the remaining Snowgies into his lap. Crystal jumped to his head.
“Its ok. Mama loves you. I love you. I’m here. We’re together.” Marshmallow rumbled softly to his frightened siblings.
There wasn’t anything he could do.
They crawled over him arms and he held them close.
Mama was gone.
The Ice Palace began to crack.
The magic was fading.
His legs faded.
The chandelier above fell and crashed through the floor.
The Snowgies were bursting into flakes all around him. A few jumped onto his head.
The doors fell and the staircase came crashing down.
His arms failed.
He felt Crystal fall apart on his head.
The walls fell.
Darkness came for him last of all.
***
Anna pressed her lips to Olaf’s forehead, hoping against hope her love was enough.
Olaf collapsed into a flurry of snowflakes which were caught by the wind and out of the cave. Anna was left holding his carrot nose as the rest of his remains dropped into her lap.
The only way for Olaf to be dead was because Elsa was dead too. She had no idea where her sister even was. She carefully gathered up the coal and sticks and put them into her satchel.
At least this time she’d have something to bury and not just have empty stones. Anna thought, and then she closed the flap, took a breath and curled into a ball to weep as she let the reality of her whole family being dead take her.
The torch flickered and died.

Some thoughts about Elsa's powers and if she could be hurt.
Only Disney could tell us what it's all about Elsa's ice powers, where they come from and how far they can go. In the mean time we are on our own and have to develop our own theories.
Ok, here's a new one... Regarding the crossbow arrow of one of Weaseltons body guards in the ice castle, that nearly had hit her: Elsa's ice powers must give her an incredible fast reaction time. More than that: the ice shield has been built nearly instantly before her to stop this arrow! Normally you can't dodge such a projectile, you even hardly see the arrow coming, not from that small distance! Maybe you have more chances with an arrow from a bow, shot from a greater distance, because it's a bit slower in general comparing to a crossbow arrow, but even then it's nearly impossible to get out of the way just in time. Remember Elsa jerking back the moment the arrow goes half thru her ice shield. Does her ice powers do the work for her automatically in some cases and Elsa can't control that really? She startled in that moment!
That leads me to the following question and theory:
what if Elsa can defend herself only subconscious against other things than ice? Because ice is a part of herself and her ice powers won't react the same way as for example against an arrow? I mean, the ice chandelier in her castle hits her and she was knocked out for many hours. Despite that she seemed not to have got any wounds from this impact, can Elsa (or her powers) instinctively build an thin but very hard ice shield directly around her body which can't be seen? Her clothing during her transformation, right after she created her castle, was made of ice, obviously. But it doesn't melt. How is that possible? Is Elsa's body temperature the same as ice, or does she (or her powers) have to keep the clothing permanently and instinctively in shape? Does her ice powers do that for her without she only have to think one second? And if so, how can she give a hug to somebody, who doesn't start to freeze then? The answer is: because of a kind of love, which is the only other power, that can control her mighty and dangerous ice powers!
In which way or strenght does the ice powers influence to her, depending on her moods? Remember the different colors of the walls in her ice castle which reflects her momentary feelings. So, does this power affect her mood and thinking in that way, that she can't really control it, that it's such a deep part of herself, that takes control about her reactions in light speed? If Elsa get's angry she doesn't feel love in that moment, this is a chance the ice powers can take control over her again.
Conclusion: Elsa needs permanently someone around her who loves her or give good feelings to her, to supress her powers temporarly, like Anna did up to now.
By the way: remember Grand Pabbie's question to Agnarr "Cursed or born with them?". The word CURSED! I think what other should that mean than the powers are controlling you, not vice versa, if you've been cursed with them. Otherwise it would make no sense, right?
Examples how Elsa can control her powers to the good or evil: - Elsa feels love: she have full control over her powers and can let disappear all ice and snow in the whole country, and who knows what else she can do in a positive way - Elsa feels fun or happyness: she controls her powers with her own will and can create friendly creatures like Olaf or the snowgies, a wonderful filigree ice castle, clothes for herself or others (Anna), a skating rink and skates, ice decorations, christmas trees and many more - Elsa feels fear: her powers take mostly control over her and can hurt somebody, or creates a Guardian like Marshmellow, changes the colors of ice and causes cracks in the castle, can destroy walls and chains, creates an eternal winter, controls the weather, snow storms, and more - Elsa feels anger or is very determined to reach a goal:  the powers are fully activated and are working instantly, creating ice shields, ice blasts, ice below her feet to walk over water, can defend her against nearly everything and every danger
Finally, i guess Elsa can't be really hurt, not on conventional ways, but only can be knocked out for an amount of time.

Note
Elsa has another anxiety attack. Her creations notice and this is what I THINK they would do: Olaf gets Anna and then hugs Elsa. Not sure what Marshmallow will do but probs hug. Snowgies would all circle around her and try to cheer her up with lots of HUGS. Everyone would hug her tbh.. except for good ol Ice Knight. He would probably be aggressive to anyone who gets near her. I doubt something made out of adrenaline knows how to calm someone down.
This adorable and so important!
Imagine Marshmallow running down the mountain in big THUD THUD THUDs to hug mama Elsa

My thoughts on Olaf’s Frozen Adventure with spoilers
* everything is perfect in the short, basically
* there is no Hans
* there is no Marshmallow
* there are no snowgies
* the short kind of repeats structure of Frozen Fever, focusing on the sisters the most
* Castle staff is totally used to Olaf and his antics, the same goes to Arendelle citizens
* Elsa still doesn’t touch people or is touched by them. Exception is Anna, towards which Elsa seems to be very feely-touchy, and Olaf
* Anna still feels like she has to sneak in to get some sweets
* Grand Staircase Entrance is repeated again
* Kristoff is very cute and uncomfortable in new clothes
* Arendelle totally doesn’t have a sense of safety and lets a huge Yule bell be dragged over heads of their queen and princess, they must believe a rope the bell is on is magic
* Elsa seems to know her subjects by name
* Kristoff is very sweet but tries very hard to gross people out. For example with troll traditions.
* Elsa avoids any contact with him and is traumatized by the thought of licking some mud and moss to the point of gagging. Anna enjoys the show.
* Elsa blaming herself for everything and shutting doors in Anna’s face seems still like a tradition. Uh-oh
* it seems like Sven can use sleds whenever he wants, without Kristof knowing
* Olaf has awesome skills of socializing
* LOL Oaken. Will he always be naked now? And there are trolls sculptures at his sauna.
* I wonder if buying new sleds for Kristoff when old ones are totalled will be new royal tradition
* So Elsa is out again and in search of her sister to apologize. Big progress
* Anna is the best sister ever. Period.
* Contents of Anna and Elsa’s trunks show vividly how different their childhood was
* lt seems that at this point Kristoff made himself a home at the royal stables. And he cooks. The way that is cute and gross, again. Pity we won’t see the outcome ;)
* This time Kristoff doesn’t understand Sven talk, but Anna and Elsa do. Strange
* Depressed Olaf is something new
* l really would like to know what citizens of Arendelle felt when their agitated queen personally knocked on their doors and asked for help in finding the snowman
* so the searching party made the same way in a couple of hours that took Anna a day and a night
* if you weren’t in tears before, this is the time to cry. We are reminded that Olaf’s sometimes annoying existence has a very deep meaning (and don’t be distracted by magically appearing Olaf’s box)
* Arendelle citizens absolutely support their queen and princess hugging, holding hands and making doe eyes at each other in public. And singing romantic duets together
* So the trademark chandelier can be a Christmas tree if needed. Well played, Elsa
* No, but Elsa’s magic is really awesome. With zero difficulty she can make fly not only Olaf (and get him safely back), but a great amount of lanterns. And they must be hot, but it doesn’t affect her magic a bit
* So Kristoff has his hand on Anna’s shoulder and Elsa has her hand on Anna’s butt. Prove me wrong

Olaf loves giving warm hugs.  The kittens look happier about it than the snowgies, however...

f2 review *spoilers beyond this point*
IT WAS SO GOOD OMG!
f2 was absolutely amazing and i loved every second of it. if i had to choose a fave part, it would be a tie between little anna and elsa in the flashback, iduna singing all is found, some things never change, OAKEN IN THE ENTIRE MOVIE, the charades scene, anna singing the lullaby, the kirstanna moment in the sled. gale playing with frohanna, olaf’s recap of f1 (and the rest of f2 after the credits) along with mattias’ reaction (which got a chuckle out of me), kristoff going, ‘will you marry me?’ and yelena bring like ‘...no’, the 80s dream that was lost in the woods, olsf screaming the voice call (everyone in the theater laughed including me), anna reassuring elsa after they left the ship, nokkie bowing to elsa when she reaches the river, the entirety of show yourself, elsa murdering the hans memory (YAS QUEEN!), iduna memory telling adgar memory ‘i need to tell you who i am’ and him saying ‘i’m listening’, olaf cheering anna up in the cave, the reunion with frohanna hugging and elsa asking, ‘do you wanna build a snowman?, QUEEN ANNA, that little tune of do you wanna build a snowman that plays when olaf comments on the fancy clothes, mattias with the photo, elsa smiling as she returned to arendelle, marshmallow going ‘THAT WAS SUCH A GOOD STORY!’ with the snowgies jumping around all happy and all the f1 parallels! :D
IT WAS ALL SO GOOD HOW COULD I CHOOSE ONE FAVE PART
my only problems with the movie were not seeing young iduna like in the trailer (instead of a vision) and her looking at the northern lights with elsa looking concerned (i wonder what that was about). i also didn’t like how fast things went in the beginning and I WISH MY BOI OAKEN GOT A LINE
but besides that, i still loved the movie and i’d give it a 9/10 (only .5 points behind the original frozen!)
now if you’ll excuse me, i have to listen to show yourself a thousand hundred times :)

Frozen 3: Melt (ACT 1: SCENE 10 + ACT 2: SCENE 11+12)
Scene 10
Elsa and Hans enter the council chamber. Hans has no handcuffs on. A) he has no weapons and B) Elsa can turn him into a pretty boy popsicle in .2 seconds. Olaf and Sven are in the room now because screw the rules, Anna is Queen and she wants them there. One of the council members is petting Sven.
Olaf rips off an arm and points it like a dagger at Hans.
“Unhand her, fiend!” Elsa gently holds the snowman back.
“The Southern Isles plan to attack at dawn, sailing from the south east. We don’t know how many ships, but they sent supplies and spies ahead of them. Some are already here.” Elsa takes her seat.
Kristoff begins to speak, but Elsa interjects. “No, Kristoff, Hans is not one of the spies.”
“How is he not? He got right into the palace! Now he’s giving you puppy dog eyes to get votes of sympathy! He’s playing you, Elsa!” Kristoff insists. Hans "puppy dog" eyes turn cold. Then he stands.
“You have no reason to trust me,” he begins. He turns to Anna, looks her right in the eyes. “You least of all. There isn’t time for me to wallow and ask for forgiveness, we need to gather an army. My brothers are fierce men.”
“There’s no time to summon an army,” general Mattias says. “It’s nearly sunset, we can’t mount a full offensive overnight!”
“I think I can make something work.” Elsa looks happy and mischievous. Bruni climbs onto her shoulder and winks with sass. Spread out across the table, like in a war room, Elsa creates little frozen Arendelle. She crafts figurines of snowgies, Marshmallow monsters, and walls of ice to position around Arendelle to protect the people. They all look at her, impressed.
“Elsa… I love you,” Anna says. Kristoff just nods in excitement.
“But now what do we do with him in the meantime?” Kristoff gestures to Hans.
“I want to fight my brothers alongside the people of Arendelle.”
“So you can stab us in the back? Repeatedly?” Kristoff sneers.
“He won’t,” Elsa interjects with confidence. “He’ll know better than us how his brothers fight. Hans, I want you to join Mattias and my guards in the courtyard. Share with them what you know. Kristoff, join him - no, don't complain. Anna, I want you to come with me. I don’t know how much strength it’s going to take to create an entire regimen of snow, so I want you by my side. It’ll make me stronger.” Anna holds her sister close, and looks at Hans with disdain, but not as harshly as before. “Let’s do this,” Anna declares.
Cue a montage of Hans and Mattias training with the palace guards and Elsa tirelessly creating snowgies and marshmallow monsters. She and Anna try to control them and show them what to do but they are easily distracted. Eventually they make it work.
Elsa sends Gale to sea, to push the winds against the oncoming ships, to slow them down as much as they can. Elsa freezes the fjord to slow them further, and to prevent them from docking. The soldiers will have to wade to shore.
ACT TWO:
SCENE 11
Our perspective is from ships approaching Arendelle. They’re trading a telescope back and forth, all looking a mixture of confused, shocked, and enraged.
We see through the telescope - we see that they’ve discovered a huge line of marshmallows and snowgies that they’ll have to fight through to get to the castle.
“What happened to our scouts?!” One asks.
Cut to the scouts in prison, looking the opposite of thrilled.
“Doesn’t matter! What matters is that we’re here now, this is our day!” Frederick declares. He hasn’t looked through the telescope yet.
“Well you… might need to take a peek at this, first.” Frederick grunts in annoyance and looks across the fjord to discover the snow army. We see Olaf with them this time, marching along the frontline like a general, back and forth, ensuring everyone is in position. He’s not scared because he’s been impaled before and obviously it doesn’t hurt. He’s ready for battle.
“It seems that the ice queen has returned,” he grunts. “A higher challenge, but we’ve never shied away from a fight before, boys.”
They comically fight their way through the snow army. A snowgie bites a soldier and he cries, “I got frostbite!” As soon as they think they’ve pushed through, there’s a sudden cloud of thick, black smoke, and a silhouette of a huge dragon against the castle wall (oh hi Bruni!) looking like Mushu when he met Mulan. A good chunk of the Southern Isles soldiers flee in fear.
Sven and Kristoff attack from the ramparts, dumping buckets of ice onto the soldiers trying to get beyond the walls. We see Frederick and Gregor, the second eldest, nod to each other, and Gregor runs off screen.
The guards fight off most of the soldiers, so that now only the brothers remain. But only 11 are seen. A shadow flits about above the courtyard, where Elsa and Anna stand. Kristoff rushes to join them.
The shadow begins to fall, about to land on Anna - we get a quick flash of a sword’s edge. Gregor is going in for the win.
Suddenly, Hans slides in and blocks the blade, saving Anna’s life. They fight with vigor until Hans gets injured and falls to the ground. Gregor steps back to catch his breath, all of the brothers laughing. They close in on the group.
Elsa summons all of her strength and manifests snow versions of the earth giants - she now has an army of the four elements at her disposal. A couple of the brothers look like they’re about to fight them, but Frederick puts out his arm as a signal to stand down. He comes to his senses and realizes that they can’t beat these abominable snowmen.
“It seems we are at an impasse,” Frederick says, gaze shifting from Anna, Elsa and Kristoff over to Hans. “Return our little brother to our custody and Arendelle is yours.”
“Arendelle has always been ours,” Anna says. Elsa slowly approaches Hans, who is still on the ground, writhing in pain. He clutches his arm to his chest, grimacing in pain, barely able to open his eyes.
Kristoff glances around. “Alright then. Take him back. Don’t return.”
“No, wait -” Elsa says, helping Hans to his feet. He has to lean on her for support.
“He just risked his life to save you, Anna.” She turns from her sister to Kristoff. “We nearly lost her again. He didn’t have to do that.”
“Throw me in the dungeon until the day I die if you must, just don’t send me back to my brothers, that is all I ask.” Hans can barely get the words out. He looks genuinely terrified.
Elsa goes over to Anna. “He came here to warn us -”
“- because he hates his brothers -” Anna interjects.
“ - either way, he saved us, and then you. Anna, he has never known kindness. Maybe we can melt away the ice his brothers put in his heart.”
Anna considers for a moment. Kristoff concedes by nodding in reluctance, deciding that it’s up to the sisters alone. Anna takes a deep breath and walks over to Hans.
“We’ll be keeping an eye on you. No access to weapons. A guard will attend you at all times until we know you can be trusted.”
“Thank you, Queen Anna. More than I can say.” He dips his head in respect.
“A guard, or myself. Believe me, Anna, I can freeze him on the spot,” Elsa jokes.
“That she can,” Hans confirms, a small almost-smile coming across his face.
SCENE 12
Guards approach as they recover from the fight, and Mattias and his men take Hans’ brothers directly back to the docks, sending them away. Meanwhile, we go back to Elsa and Anna, who are helping Hans onto a sofa (the one he left Anna to freeze on).
Elsa sits down next to him while a servant sets his arm and bandages him.
“I… Elsa, I should go talk to Kristoff for a moment,” Anna says. She hugs her sister, gives Hans a weary glance, and leaves the room. The servant follows soon after, leaving Elsa alone with Hans.
“Why didn’t you just send me back with them? You won. You can be rid of me now, I got what I wanted, they lost,” Hans looks to Elsa with exasperation. He is sweating from the fight, and from the pain. Elsa creates a small flurry to dust his forehead with chilly snowflakes. He inhales sharply at first, startled, then relaxes as Elsa’s eyes meet with his, full of concern and pity.
“Sometimes we think that we’re monsters and that it’s our destiny to be so. That we have to give in to what others around us say, to accept the cards we’ve been dealt. For a long time I was terrified of myself. I was a monster in my own eyes.”
Hans closes his eyes. “At least you never tried to kill anyone.”
“I came close. Remember when you found me in my palace? I nearly impaled Weselton’s guard and almost pushed another off the edge. It’s easy to get lost in the moment.” Elsa places her hand on his.
“We may have done monstrous things in the past, Hans, but we are not defined by that. We can’t forget them, we have to own up to our actions, but they do not get to determine who or what we truly are.” There is silence for a while. They look at each other then look away.
“You were just trying to protect yourself. I was trying to overthrow a kingdom,” Hans concedes.
Elsa wipes some of the sweat from his face with a cloth and says, “You were trying to protect yourself, too, from your brothers. That was the only way out that you could see.”
“I don’t deserve forgiveness…” Hans looks away from her, ashamed.
“No one does. That’s the beauty of it. It’s a gift freely given.”

Reprise (Chapter 33) [Frozen/Tangled/The Little Mermaid]
CHAPTER 33: The Resistance
"Watch out for the fire. Don't touch," Olaf said as he picked up a torch.
The tunnel's upward incline told them they were heading north into Arendelle's mountain range. Thanks to the reflective ice on the walls, the single torch kept the tunnel well lit.
As they walked, Olaf explained how he came to be guarding the door. "So then they told me to go stand guard at the door. I guess they've got it all cleaned up now. But the noodles might be stuck there."
No one could get a word in edgewise as Olaf rattled through whatever came to mind.
"I still think we need a catchy name. I even thought of a few, like the 'ice guys'. Or the 'cold warriors'. How do you like that one?"
"But who, Olaf? Who is leading the resistance?" Rapunzel asked.
"We're here."
The endless tunnel tapered into a small alcove. Only Olaf could fit without ducking. "Can you push this up? My arms have trouble."
The three of them pushed on a sheet of wood in the ceiling. Powdery snow sprinkled on them as light filtered through.
The air was thin, dry, and crisp. The three of them stood on top of the world, surrounded by mountains like Earth's lords.
"Watch out, I'm throwing up!" Olaf shouted.
Olaf's head popped out of the hole, landing next to them. His other two body parts followed. He quickly reassembled himself.
"What is..." Flynn turned around. A gigantic castle of blue ice stood before him, embedded in the mountain's peak. Flynn's jaw dropped. "That... is one large castle."
"Another snow queen special," Olaf said. "It's the perfect place to plan a secret rebellion."
Olaf knocked five times on the gigantic double doors. The mountains echoed as the doors unlatched.
A giant snow golem, as high as the double doors, stood in the doorway. Icicles jutted out of its shoulders and back, adding to his scowl.
Flynn swallowed.
Olaf said, "Hi, Marshmallow! These are new members. This is Rapunzel, Ariel, and I didn't get his name but he rides flynns."
Rapunzel stepped forward. "We're friends of Elsa and Anna's. We want to help."
The golem said nothing. It growled and stepped aside.
The bustle of activity echoed against the smooth walls the ice castle. People carried buckets, bundles of wood, and other supplies. Others were mending clothes or crafting tools. There was an odd trilling too, made by hundreds of little snowmen skittering around the castle floor. Each had a smile that was half-adorable, half-terrifying.
"Oh my god, they're breeding," Flynn said.
"No," Olaf chided. "These are my brothers. This one's Sludge, and this is Slush, and Slide and Hansel and Flake and Fridge and Flurry and Powder and Crystal and Squall and Pat and Sverre and William and-"
"It's a... it's a whole new species." Flynn grabbed Rapunzel by the shoulders. "Does anyone realize that? This is a civilization of people made from snow. Can anything get a reaction out of you?"
"Elsa already told me about this. She had a bad cold once, before her powers were totally under control. Every time she sneezed, these little guys would appear. She sent them all up here to live with Marshmallow."
"The big guy," Ariel said, while tickling one of the snowgies under its chin.
Flynn wiped his forehead. "Of course. The giant snow monster is named Marshmallow. And he's on our side. That's great."
"What's going on? I heard the door open." A man with nappy blond hair and a stocking cap appeared at the stairway railing. "Rapunzel! Ariel! You're back!" He turned behind. "Sven! Look who it is!"
A large bull reindeer poked its head over the side of the railing. Its eyes brightened and its tongue hung out like a dog's.
"Is that a reindeer?" Flynn asked. "Because of course. Why not a reindeer?"
Kristoff came down and hugged the two of them. Rapunzel introduced her husband as Flynn Rider. "But if he gets out of line, you can call him Eugene."
"Welcome to the resistance," Kristoff said.
"You did all this?" Ariel asked.
Kristoff nodded proudly. "The tunnel was the hard part. But the castle was too perfect not to use. Ansel doesn't know about it."
"What about these guys?" Flynn nudged away a little snowman nuzzling his boot.
"The snowgies? We're trying to train them, but they're pretty wild. Luckily, they'll do anything for cake." Kristoff reached into his pocket and pulled out handful of crumbs.
The little snowmen froze and turned their beady eyes.
Kristoff held the cake to the left. Hundreds of black eyes followed. He shifted it to the right. They followed. He tossed the cake into the middle of the crowd. The snowgies climbed over each other to get a taste, like puppies diving for a treat.
"The problem is this palace didn't come with a kitchen. And we can't make a fire for... obvious reasons." Kristoff shrugged. "But my family's here. They agreed to help. And others from Arendelle. There's so many we had to convert the throne room into a command center. We've got a supply room, infirmary, barracks, an armory--although that's not very big right now. There's not much access to supplies besides what we can sneak through. We could really use Elsa's help for that. Where is she?"
"She... we don't know," Ariel said. "She's missing."
Kristoff's face dropped. "Missing? Anna's not going to like that."
"She's here? I thought she was imprisoned in the castle," Rapunzel said.
"She escaped. The old 'bedsheets-out-the-window' routine. She said she used to do it all the time when the northern lights were bright. Elsa and her would sneak out and climb a tree to watch."
Kristoff led them up the stairs to the back of the castle. Without decorations or color, every room looked much the same. It was beautiful--full of crystalline shimmer and prismatic beauty--but all the same.
In the throne room, a young woman hunched over a map on the floor, measuring something with a ruler. Ariel and Rapunzel thought she was a stranger. Gone were her trademark braids and make-up. Instead, she wore a tight ponytail and woolen clothes with fur ruffs.
"Kristoff, I said I'm working on this. Stop distracting me."
"Anna?" Ariel asked.
Anna looked up. Her face softened. "Rapunzel! Ariel!" She clambered to her feet and tackled them in a hug. "Where's Elsa? Is she with you?"
Ariel and Rapunzel glanced at each other.
"Is she..." Anna's lower lip trembled.
"She's not dead," Rapunzel said.
"We don't think," Ariel added. "It's a long story."
"I like stories," Olaf said as he toddled in.
Anna sat cross-legged on the floor. "Tell me everything."
It took hours to recount what happened after the blockade and the return to Corona. Anna gasped at learning of Ravir's self-exile and leaned forward at the library fire. Meeting Arcius took a great deal of explanation and backtracking, which was understandable.
Rapunzel and Ariel had agreed ahead of time to fictionalize their moments under the sea. The important part was the bottle that led them to Lowther's domain. Anna's disgust at their description of his lifestyle needed no interpretation. But she rejoiced when learning about their retaliation. Except the end. Because that involved Elsa's last act--casting a protective dome of ice over them as the castle crumbled.
"And when we broke through, she was gone. We found her footprints walking away, so we know she was okay."
"How long were you in there?" Anna asked.
"I have no idea. It was pitch black and constantly rumbling. I might have passed out and not known it," Ariel said.
"Why hasn't Arcius tried to contact you? Or kidnap you?" Kristoff asked. "He needs you to complete his plan. And he doesn't sound like the kind of guy to take no for an answer."
"Maybe we're really good at hiding," Ariel said.
"You know, Pabbie might know something about this grain of time. He's old. Not as old as the world, but still pretty old."
"Let me guess. Pabbie's a snowman too?" Flynn asked.
"Of course not. He's a rock troll," Kristoff said.
"And his grandfather," Rapunzel added.
"Grandfather rock troll. Sure, why not. Makes perfect sense. Sounds fine," Flynn said.
Anna was shaking her head. "Kristoff. We both agreed we weren't going to try a rescue mission. He told us not to."
"Rescue mission?" Ariel asked.
"That was before Rapunzel and Ariel arrived," Kristoff responded.
"Wait, what's going on?" Rapunzel asked.
Anna gave Kristoff a look. "Ansel heard about the Valley of the Living Rock. He marched in. We managed to get everyone out. But they got Pabbie. He used his magic to hold them off."
"Is he still alive?" Ariel asked.
"Our inside sources say he is," Kristoff said.
"How would you even kill him? A chisel?" Flynn asked.
Kristoff didn't look amused. "They haven't killed him, but that means they want him for something. Either information or his magic or ransom to get at the resistance."
Ariel stood up. "We've got to bust him out of there."
"How?" Kristoff asked. "We're nowhere close to the manpower we need to attack the castle."
"You don't need to attack. You need an infiltration. You can't overtake them, so you undertake them."
"How are we supposed to do that?" Kristoff asked.
"That..." She looked down at the map. "I need a little time to figure out."
"I can help," Flynn said. "Sneaking around castles is my thing."
Olaf jumped up. "I'll get the cocoa!" He toddled off. "A little hot cocoa always helps you think."
On hands and knees, Ariel studied the map of the castle and surrounding area. Kristoff hovered over her, pointing out what she needed to know. Flynn squatted next to them, making suggestions.
Anna pulled Rapunzel aside. "Hey, I missed you," she said.
"I missed you too," Rapunzel said.
Anna tugged into the hallway, where they were alone. "So after you left, I found out what the people asked you. About you... becoming queen."
Rapunzel's eyebrows shot up. "Anna, I'm sorry. I never said anything to make them-"
"No, no, listen, it's all right. I understand why they did it. I'm not... I'm not like my sister. I'm not good at the whole ruling thing."
"That's not true," Rapunzel said. "You're driven and protective. They believe in your guidance. You're a great queen."
"That's sweet of you to say. But we both know you're a better one. I'm kind of scatterbrained. I hate schedules. I can't make big decisions."
"But what about this?" She gestured to the palace. "You're organizing an army to take down that dictator. The people of Arendelle are lucky they have someone who cares about them so much."
"That's for now," Anna said. "What about when it's over? What happens when it goes back to the day-to-day schedule. Just studying one law proclamation takes me all day. I can't make speeches--I'd trip on the way to the podium. What kind of queen is that? What I'm saying is... If Elsa doesn't come back, and you want to take the offer, I'd understand."
"Anna... I can't... I mean... what would you even do?"
Anna shrugged. "Live somewhere else. Maybe Kristoff could teach me how to be an ice harvester. Could travel the world. And there's other kingdoms and duke... doms... what do you call them? Duke-places? Dukeries?"
"What about your dynasty? Your titles? You'd just throw it away like that?"
"You know I'd rather be living with people than controlling them. Arendelle needs someone like you. Now more than ever. What I'm saying is, I wouldn't stand in your way."
Anna's eyes were sincere. She had learned things about herself in the time of their separation. Everything that had happened had made them take a hard look at themselves and their futures. Anna wasn't doing this because it was easy, but because it was right.
Rapunzel coughed. "Um, Kristoff said you had an infirmary. I assume that means you have some wounded?"
Anna nodded. "I'll take you to them."
The two of them walked into the hallway. Side-by-side but not together.
Ariel sipped her cocoa without realizing only sludge remained at the bottom. Instead, she tipped the mug back and downed it.
"Whoever designed this castle was smart," she said.
"It's part of the reason Arendelle's endured so long," Flynn said. "There are guard towers here, here, and here. And it doesn't help that the castle's surrounded on three sides by water. I mean, I know it works out for the castle..."
"The walls are too sheer to climb. Best we could do is launch a small assault squad, but I don't know the castle's defenses. And I don't want to attack our own people," Kristoff said.
"We can't help it. No matter what we're going to be attacking Arendelle people," Flynn said.
"But we can't tell who's on Ansel's side and who's just doing their job guarding the castle," Kristoff said.
"I don't want to get into a fight either. They can destroy us easily. The trident's powerful, but it's not that powerful," Ariel said. "But that's not the mission right now. The mission is to rescue Pabbie. Not to take back the castle. Not to attack anyone."
"I suppose there's always the old 'hide in a barrel' and pretend you're a delivery."
Kristoff shook his head. "Everything's opened and inspected before it goes past the doors. Ansel already thought of that one."
"What if you get a job? Apply to be a cook," Flynn said.
"The longer you're in the castle, the more chance you have of being caught," Kristoff said.
Ariel couldn't help but nod. She stared at the map, willing some alternative to come to her. This wasn't her land. It wasn't her castle. What did she know that would help?
"Elsa told me she broke out of one of the prison cells. Where was that?"
"Here." Kristoff stuck his thick finger on one side of the castle facing the fjord. "In the lower level."
"Was that ever repaired?"
