Hiii LOVE your fic 🫶🏻! I was wondering if you could write a fic where everything that happens in the chase scene, happens to fem!reader but Miguel actually catches up to her & kinda knocks her down. He begs her not to do this, to stay down. As she gets up she asks him if any of it was real, he says it was and still is. He tells her that he thought that if he pursue her romantically then she would accept her dad's fate & wouldn't go against him (of course it doesn't work) she says she can't do that & escapes. He loses it a little & starts destroying everything & makes it everybody's mission to find her
Just pure angst 😭 I'm sorry if this is a lot

Tumblr media
Pairing: Miguel O'Hara x Reader
Summary: You finally understand the true purpose of the Spider Society; protecting the canon, protecting the multiverse even at the cost of all the Spiders' suffering. But you were going to stop at nothing to find your way home, though Miguel isn't keen on letting you go.
Warnings: Angsty, Miguel gets angry.
“Miguel…what are you doing,” you ask softly, still not wanting to believe what you were seeing. All around you, members of the Society began closing in, caging you in an inescapable circle.
You didn’t want to accept it. That all these people, the ones you have grown to call family would turn their back on you in the blink of an eye. Or rather an order from their leader.
“I can’t let you leave, mi vida,” he says, eyes apologetic but unrelenting.
“What is the purpose of this place, the true purpose of this place Miguel,” you ask, your voice hardening. You had always believed when Miguel first recruited you it was to act as Spider-Man across the multiverse, no longer limited to your own hometown. But it seems there was some other agenda you were made unaware of.
He hesitates for a moment before exhaling lowly, eyes boring into yours.
“The Spider Society…was created to protect the canon of the multiverse. To ensure that in each world the events progress as they should,” he explains as the world disappears around everyone, replaced with holograms of a complex web.
“I don’t understand, what does that have to do with me saving my father?” you ask, and he winces.
You were never supposed to see the hologram and the message that followed it, you realize now. But you had snuck into the monitoring room, carrying a lunch of all of Miguel’s favourite foods when you saw it.
A hologram of your father going about his day, the message ‘Canon Event Detected. Time: 2 Days’ followed by the words ‘Soon to be Deceased’.
You thought it was some sick joke, some prank a cruel spider thought to play on you. But when you asked Miguel about it he refused to make eye contact with you, and that’s when the intervention began.
“Your father dying, is a canon event,” he says. “Just like how every person in this room undergoes their own canon events, their own version of loss. It's what ties every person in this room together in the web that makes up the Arachno-Humanoid Polymultiverse,” he explains, and you only grow more confused as he acted like that explanation justified any of this.
“So you’re saying you know that some of the most important people in every Spider’s life will die, and you just let it happen?” you ask, in disbelief at the blatant cruelty.
“It must happen, to ensure that life continues. That it doesn’t disintegrate into nothing…like how my universe disappeared.”
You only shake your head, taking a step back as your breath becomes slightly unsteady.
“You’re saying that our job here is to make everyone suffer, because of something that you fucked up a long time ago?!” you say, and his eyes narrow at you. It was harsh, but it was true. Perhaps the cumulation of disordered events could destroy a universe, but there was no way of proving that slight changes would hurt anything.
Scientific fact arises through countless hours of testing and experimentation. One result that happened one time shouldn’t dictate what the conclusion will be.
“You can’t tell me not to save my father, Miguel! I can’t just let him die if I can do something about it,” he says, and a look of pity washes over his face as he walks closer to you, but you take a step back.
“All this happens for a reason, these canon events allow us to become who we are, even if it hurts,” he says gently. And even though you hate to say it, it soothes you. His voice always has.
So much so, that you let down your guard for a single moment. Allowing him to come close and slip the watch right off of your wrist.
“No!” you say, trying to take it from his grasp but he was too fast. “How am I supposed to go home?”
“You won’t,” he says in turn.
“I’m sorry,” a voice cuts in from behind you. Jess, with a sympathetic look in her eyes. “I know it's hard, but it's for the greater good.” Looking around, you see all your closest friends surround you, but against you.
“Even you, Peter?” you ask softly, and he only glances away with guilt.
“2 days? That’s plenty of enough time, I’ll get home one way or another,” you say, glaring at Miguel.
“I can’t let you do that,” he says before he tosses a trap right at your feet. Before it can work, you use your telekinesis to throw it back, trapping him instead.
“STOP! ENOUGH OF THIS!” Miguel shouts. It was the first time in your life you had ever heard him shout, and frankly, it scared you as you watch him try to claw his way out.
Everyone immediately starts to move in on you, but you throw your arms out casting a force field that throws everyone back.
Leaving an opening for escape.
~
Running from hundreds of different spiders all on the hunt for you was not easy. It doesn’t make you feel very superhuman when all that are chasing after you were also superhuman, and quite frankly you were exhausted.
Not only physically, but mentally as well. The whole situation was taking a toll on you even if you were trying to shove it to the back of your head.
Luckily everything served as a pretty good distraction for the pain your heart was in.
“You can’t keep running,” Jess says as you leap from car to car on the freeway, tailing behind you on her motorcycle.
“What choice do I have?” you say, though your voice cracks. You see her determined expression falter. You and she grew close soon after you joined the Society, she was truly one of your best friends.
But best friends don’t keep things from each other, especially things as important as the supposed ‘cause’ you were all working for.
You notice her hesitancy, and that’s when you strike. Kicking her off her bike, you pin her to a car with your webs as you snatch the watch from her wrist.
“I never wanted to hurt you,” she says, looking up at where you hung from the vehicle, sadness in her eyes.
“You already did,” you say before swinging away.
~
You were very quickly running out of options for escape. Even with the watch, you couldn’t find an opening to program the watch for home.
As a last resort you latched onto the roof of the high-speed bullet train of Nueva York headed toward the skies, hoping that the force of gravity paired with the speed would at least stall some of the spiders off of your trail.
But before you could realize it, Miguel was very quickly on your tail until finally, he grabbed ahold of you, slamming you down into the roof as you yelped out in pain.
“STOP THIS!” he shouts, straight into your face. He doesn’t even take his mask off as he does, making the whole situation seem even more impersonal. You could only scoff in his face before the hurt overwhelmed you, and you spoke before you could stop yourself.
“Was any of it even real?” you ask softly, tears welling in your eyes as you do. Miguel looks taken back for a moment, eyes widened in surprise as his grasp falters for a second.
“What?” he asks.
“Was any of it real?!” you say louder this time. “Those times when you held me in your arms as I cried, the times when you kissed me in the kitchen as we made dinner together, or when we danced in the living room at night. When you said ‘I love you’ for the first time, was any of it even real?” You say as you feel the anger rise.
“Or was it just some kind of sick way of keeping me under your thumb because I’m the 'original anomaly’, to keep me from going against the canon and your sick agenda that you force everyone else to suffer?” you say, your voice loud now as you struggle harder against his grasp.
“It was real...in the end,” he admits, and you feel your expression drop. You wished that this was all some horrible nightmare, that you would wake up and this would just be in your head and he would hold you like he always did.
But deep down you always knew.
Knew that you loved him more than he did you, that this relationship was built on a lie. But you ignored it for the sake of your fragile heart, and here it is getting shattered all over again by the one person in this life you thought you could trust.
“We’re done, Miguel,” you say, resigned at last.
“Huh?” he says, as though he couldn’t believe your words even after everything you had been through.
“I said we’re done,” you say before you kick him straight in his stomach, launching him off of you so that he has to claw his way back onto the roof.
“Goodbye, Miguel,” you say, before you take a leap backwards, flying through the sky for a few moments until you open up a portal back home.
~
Miguel shouts in frustration as he marches back into the monitoring room, rage radiating off of his form in waves.
In his anger he shoves everything in his path out of the way, talons scratching into the walls as the rest of the Society surrounds him, awaiting his next orders.
Finally, he manages to calm down enough to utter out a single phrase.
“Find her, for the canon…for the multiverse,” Miguel says as guilt creeps in like vines around his heart at his lost love.

Thinking about how happy Cass was when Steph became Robin because while she did agree with Bruce that Steph shouldn't be out on the streets fighting and it caused their first breakup, her issue was never against Steph as a person. If anyone didn't have a high enough level of fighting skill Cass would not want them in danger. But Steph kept stubbornly improving anyways and even though she might still not have been quite as good as Cass's anxiety would like, Bruce made her Robin which means Bruce must have changed his mind and now trusted Steph's potential and seen the same thing in her that made him take in Tim even though Cass doesn't fully understand that part yet. And Cass trusts Bruce so that's enough. Steph is happy Cass is happy they can spend time together which Cass loves and they don't have to fight anymore!
And then Steph gets fired and Barbara snaps at Cass and the next time Cass sees Steph she's so confused because why is she back in Spoiler gear now? Steph is Robin!
Tumblr media
And even though Steph is going through emotional hell right now I think she understood there, the difference between Bruce and Cass. The way she didn't see back when they first fought. It's why she thanks Cass for her friendship even though it wasn't always smooth sailing. Even though she does have a right to be hurt and angry with Cass from before. Unlike Bruce, Cass isn't messing with Steph, jerking her around and treating her awfully for being a girl. She genuinely likes Steph and wants Steph to succeed and be a part of her life. Unlike so many other characters, she isn't unfairly biased against Steph. (She can be a jerk but she's an equal opportunity jerk. She'd treat any fighter on Steph's level the same, unless they have Bruce's approval in which case she'd trust the process. Doesn't make it fully OK but I think it's a nuance Steph appreciates in this scene.)
But then. But then. The next time they see each other war has broken out and Cass once again needs to step in and rescue Steph and.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's the last conversation they have before Steph dies. She doesn't know Cass spent hours looking for her even in the middle of such a large turf war. She doesn't know how distracted Cass got, how passionate she was towards finding Steph even when Batman told her they couldn't afford it. She dies thinking Cass, while not viewing her like Bruce or Alfred does, still doesn't see Steph as an equal in any way that matters. And she's right! Cass loves Steph. Cass loves Steph more than she's loved any non family member in her entire life. Which doesn't change the fact that Cass does not think Steph should be out fighting, and she can only consider Steph an equal comrade when she's wearing the Robin uniform. Cass doesn't trust Steph's insistence that she's good enough, but she trusts Bruce's judgement. And Bruce is an asshole to Steph. Constantly.
They deserved to hash this out when Steph came back from the dead. Steph deserved to know how much Cass cared for her and she deserved to say exactly how Cass hurt her, no matter how good her intentions were. Cass deserved to tell Steph everything about how deeply the loss hurt her. And they both deserved the opportunity to agree on a second chance, to earn each other's full trust for once.
Anyways I'm having stephcass feelings tonight and I swear one day I will end up in the dc writers room and do... Well I'll do something to fix this that's for sure

Battletoads. The game that has swept the MacLaren family into its story, including the honorary member, Y/N. She is sitting on the couch in the MacLaren’s rental lodge, playing the game with the younger girl. “Oh, I am going to absolutely own you, Avery,” Y/N screams, jumping up from the couch while aggressively hitting the buttons of the game controller. Avery shakes her head, “No. No. No. You are going down, Y/L/N.” Both girls’ eyes are focused on the screen, but Zach’s are on his girlfriend. God, I should change her last name. Y/N MacLaren sounds much better, he thinks to himself. He loves how competitive she is and how she isn’t afraid to geek out about a video game with his sister. He notices that her drink is empty, so goes to get the juice to refill it. She thanks him without breaking her focus and he gives her a kiss on the forehead.
——
Zach is a pretty athletic guy. He is on the soccer team, he goes to the gym, and he has been snowboarding since he was eight years old, but nothing compares to the skill his girlfriend has. He watches from the bottom of the hill as she masterfully zooms around people, shredding the snow as she smoothly twists her board to a stop in front of him. “Baby, that was amazing,” he praises, running to wrap his arms around her waist. She grins at him, “Thanks, but I think I could’ve done that last jump a little better.” “No, you couldn’t have. It was absolutely perfect. Just like you,” he contradicts, punctuating each word with a kiss. Her head moves from side to side, “You think everything I do is perfect.” “What can I say? My girlfriend is flawless,” he shrugs off, walking her toward the chalet to get something to eat.
——
Y/N’s fingers grip the Jenga block tightly, trying to slowly pull it out of the tower. Zach sees the tip of her tongue sticking out and he finds it so cute. She can feel his breath against her neck, realizing now just how close he is to her. He is too busy taking in the scent of her perfume to notice her raised eyebrow at his proximity. She isn’t wearing her citrus perfume and it doesn’t smell like the flowery one he bought her for her birthday, so it must be a new one. He’ll have to check her room to see what it is. He likes to buy a bottle of her perfumes in case she ever needs it at his dorm and because he likes to spray whatever perfume she is wearing that week on his pillow. “Zach, can you back up a little bit, please? I’m trying to concentrate,” she mumbles, focusing back on her task at hand.
Once she places her block at the top of the tower, she waits for Zach to take his turn, but he doesn’t. “What perfume are you wearing? It isn’t the one I got you or your orange one. It must be new,” he ponders out loud. She gives a small laugh, “Is that really what has you with your head in the clouds? My perfume?”
“Yeah, I like to know what scent you are wearing so I can spray the same one on my pillow.”
“Careful, Zach. Keep talking like that and I’ll think you are obsessed with me.”
He knows she is joking, but he looks her dead in the eyes. “Baby, you don’t need to think about it. I want you to know how obsessed with you I am. You are the only one for me and you need to know that.”

Yours, mine & ours | Part 1: meeting matthew
Tumblr media
Eddie Munson x Steve Harrington | Single Dads fic
Summary: Eddie has a 6-year-old brother in need of a new legal guardian
Warnings: set in 1993, Eddie was never a part of the upside-down shenanigans, foster care, child neglect, death of a parent, Al Munson is a monster, Wayne Munson is the loveliest man on earth

When he got the call from Child Protective Services, his first thought was: “Do they have the right Eddie Munson?” His second thought was: “of course, my dad would have another one of his offspring taken away.”
“So, will you take him? Or should we set him up with one of our emergency families until we can find a permanent foster placement for him?” The woman asked, as kindhearted as possible.
“Uh… yeah? Do you have to like vet me or check out my place?” He asks, worried he won’t have enough time to make his trailer look presentable. He’s only had it a few months now, just a few spaces down from his uncle Wayne, but that didn’t stop the ‘Eddie tornado’ from wreaking havoc on the space in such a short time frame.
“A small one. I’ll bring Matthew with his things and I’ll take a look around, make sure it’s up to code,” she explains. “I know you were also taken in by a family member when you were a kid, so I’m sure you know what it’s like. He’s had a very rough day and I would like to have him settled with someone he can trust tonight.”
“Yeah, yeah I remember… How old is he?” He asks, unsure if she’s said it already or not. His mind was in a bit of a fog, this was all a little surreal. He was 27, how the heck did his dad have another kid? What did he get out of jail? What did he do this time? His mind is absolutely racing.
“6,” she says and he can tell she’s frowning about it. “I don’t think he’s ever been to school…”
“I missed a lot when I was with Al, too,” he shares. “I’ll get him enrolled. 6 is what? Kindergarten?”
“It is, he should be able to catch up quite easily, he’s a very sweet and quiet boy. I think he’ll greatly benefit from being around children his own age.”
He knows that’s true. “Okay, well, I’ll clean up a bit and get things ready here… when are you bringing him?”
“We’re just in Indianapolis, so I’ll be there in an hour-ish?” She says, more so asking if that works for him.
“Sounds good.”
“Thank you, Eddie.”
“Anytime.”
He hangs up the phone on the receiver and looks around the room. He’s fucked. There’s no way he can clean everything and make it look presentable in an hour.
But he’s damn sure going to try.
He throws all his clothes in the washing machine, he rushes through dishes, and he runs the recycling and a few garbage bags down to the trailer park's dumpster. He tidies his room, and sets up a few spare blankets on the couch so that the kid knows he has a spot to sleep tonight before they get him set up with more… and just as he’s changing his shirt to something less heavy metal, there’s a knock on his door.
“Coming!!” He shouts as he slips into the shirt and makes his way down the hallway. He’s barely got his arms in the sleeves as he’s opening the door.
He’s not sure what he’s expecting, but it’s still a shock to see a woman no older than himself holding a garbage bag in one hand and holding hands with a little boy in the other. She’s in a dress suit, hair all pulled back and a small smile on her face, “Eddie Munson?”
“Hi,” he says, letting out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. He looks down at his brother then, “You must be Matthew?”
He has the curliest hair, curlier than Eddie’s ever was at this age. He has chubby cheeks, big brown eyes and the longest lashes on earth that batt against those big cheeks each time he blinks. He’s adorable. How the hell could someone have a child so sweet and put them in this position? Was he this cute when he was little? Was this how Wayne felt when he was on his doorstep at 12? Or was he long past that cute phase and more into the annoying tween people felt bad for, stage?
Matthew nods, reaching up to brush his curls out of his face, he looks so tired. His eyes are red, he doesn’t smile, he’s in tattered old running shoes and pants too short for his legs and a sweater Eddie’s seen before… that used to be his. He left it when he was gathering things to leave for Waynes. It was too small for him then, but now it’s a bit too big for Matthew.
“Come in,” he steps aside and lets them in. “I uh, I cleaned as best as I could with short notice. I’ll do more tomorrow once I can borrow the vacuum from my uncle down the way, he’s at work right now. He works nights.”
“That’s okay,” she smiles, letting Matthew in first.
He takes a look around, arms crossed to protect himself. He doesn’t make eye contact, he simply wanders over to the living room to take a look at the figurines Eddie has on the shelves. Wayne would call them toys, they could be if they weren’t so expensive, but with their price tag, they are made to stay in their little acrylic cases and sit on his shelves collecting dust till he has the time to clean again.
“You like Star Wars?” He asks, trying to make conversation but Matthew just shrugs. “I’ll have to show you the movies sometime.”
“Okay,” he says, quiet and meek.
He doesn’t notice the social worker looking around. She opens the fridge, nods a bit and then closes it. She looks in the cupboards and drawers, and she notices that there are clothes in the washing machine tumbling around in soapy circles and she looks impressed. She keeps going down the hall, peaking in the bedroom, “Is it just you who lives here?”
“Uh, yeah, I just got the trailer a couple months ago… I was renting downtown for a bit but then I got the opportunity to own this place,” he explains. “I’m thinking I’m going to get a pull-out couch for me and he’ll have the room. That’s what my uncle did for me.”
“Sounds good,” she gives him a smile. “He seems like he’s good here.” She references over to Matthew who’s flipping through pages of a comic book, sitting criss-crossed on the floor. “Here,” she reaches into her pocket and hands Eddie a white envelope.
“What is this?”
“You’re not technically a foster parent, but because you’re under the poverty line and taking him in, I pulled some strings and you’ll be receiving a $500 allowance for him each month,” she explains. “It should help with groceries and clothes, and I can help you file for medical and dental benefits through some charities that focus on children going through tough situations.”
“Damn, okay,” he’s so shocked. Where was all this when he was a kid? “Wow…”
“And then in the bag, there is a manilla envelope with his birth certificate and other important documents. We couldn’t find any records of him getting his vaccines, so he should see a practitioner before going to school.”
“Okay,” he nods along, feeling overwhelmed. “I uh, I don’t even have a doctor… does he need a kid doctor or will any do?”
“A pediatrician would be best,” she explains. “In Indianapolis, we have a local pediatrician who does pro-bono work for children in the system. I included their number in the envelope, my cards in there, too, tell them I referred you.”
“Thank you. This is more than anyone did for me when they dropped me off with Wayne,” he says, trying not to tear up a bit. “I’m going to take good care of him.”
“I know you will,” she gives him a real smile, she touches his arm and then makes her way to the door. “You call if you need anything, but I think we’re all good here. Bye, Matthew!”
He looks up from his book and gives her a wave, “Bye.”
And then she’s gone.
It’s just them now.
He has a kid.
A kid that will live with him and depend on him for… 18-6 is 12 but he’s 27 and still dependent on Wayne to an extent, so that’s 21 years. He’s going to have this kid forever.
Eddie just watches him read for a moment, carefully keeping his distance. “Are you hungry?”
He nods, “kinda.”
“Do you have any favourite foods?”
He shrugs, “Pringles.”
Eddie sighs, of course. He remembers being fed Pringles and candied nuts and beef jerky from the gas station for years. He never had a real meal between his mom's death and moving in with Wayne.
“Have you ever had Mac and cheese?”
Matthew shakes his head, looking confused.
“Well, then I guess I’m going to have to introduce you to my favourite meal.”
He fills a pot up with water and sets it on a burner, throws in a bit of salt and turns it on high. He pulls a box down from the cupboard and walks it over to Matthew, “See, this is Mac and cheese, it’s these little elbow-shaped noodles and a cheese powder that you mix with milk and butter and it becomes so delicious, you’re going to love it. You can try it by itself, or you can have ketchup on it like I do.”
“I like ketchup,” he gives Eddie a little smile. “The lady at the drink place gives me ketchup with my fries.”
He knows he means the bar. His dad brought him there for dinner a lot too because most nights a plate of fries was free when you ordered 3 or more beers. Sometimes, he’d get a burger or even some chicken tenders if the bartender thought he was cute… that stopped after he turned 8. By then he was a lanky, dirty kid no one wanted to deal with.
“So, Matt, how are you feeling?”
“Hew,” he says, looking displeased.
“What?”
“My name is Matthew.”
“Oh, yeah, I know that. My name is Edward but people call me Eddie. It’s called a nickname,” he explains. “I know our father wasn’t big on nicknames, which is weird considering his preferred name is a nickname… but you don’t have to only go by Matthew. People can call you Matt, or Matty.”
“Oh,” he settles with that. “So my dad is your dad?”
He nods, “yeah… I mean he’s our father. There’s a big difference between a father and a dad.” Matt looks confused so Eddie starts to ramble. “You see, any man can father a kid, but not every man can be a dad. A dad is someone who takes care of you. Someone who reads you bedtime stories and tucks you in at night and kisses your forehead to see if you have a fever… a dad is someone who loves you and is always there for you. When I left our father, I moved in with his brother, Wayne. He did those things for me. He made me feel safe and cared for. Wayne is my dad.”
“Oh,” he softens, looking behind Eddie, sad. “My mom did those things.”
“My mom did too,” he understands. “Where is your mom?”
“She’s an angel,” Matthew sighs, missing her.
“So is my mom,” Eddie presses his lips together, awkwardly, trying not to smile but wanting him to feel comfortable. “But that’s okay, we’ve got each other now. I’m going to make sure we get you into school, and maybe tomorrow we can go shopping?”
He nods excitedly, sitting up straight, “For what?”
“Well, let’s see what you need,” Eddie says, looking for the bag of his things. He puts the box of Mac and cheese on the counter, the pot still isn’t boiling, it takes forever in here. He grabs the garbage bag and unties it, turning it over and dropping everything onto the carpeted floor.
It smells so much like cigarettes that it honestly takes his breath away. “oh wow,” he tries not to gag. He smokes, sure, but not as much as Al, and definitely not in the fucking house.
The pile of things is small. He starts to sort everything, he folds 2 pairs of jeans, 6 shirts, 3 pyjama bottoms and only 1 matching long sleeve top. He has 4 pairs of underwear that look like they’re for a toddler and no socks. There is 1 stuffed elephant and a picture of his mom in a frame… she looks a lot like his own mom.
Al Munson has a type.
“Okay,” he places his hands on his knees and bites his lip. “Well, looks like we need a bit of everything… new shoes, a good coat, some socks, a toothbrush, bathroom things? When was the last time you had a shower?”
He shrugs, “I don’t remember?”
“Okay, do you know how to shower alone?”
He nods, standing up, “I do everything by myself.”
“I figured… um, so while I make dinner do you want to go have a shower? I’m going to put your clothes in the wash later so you can wear one of my old shirts after?” Eddie offers, grabbing one of the other pairs of underwear out of the pile and standing up. “Come on, I’ll show you where everything is.”
He shows him how the shower turns on and off, sets out some towels for him and tells him just how much shampoo he should use. He gets him a new shirt, places it on the counter with his underwear and heads to leave.
“Thank you, Eddie,” Matthew says, giving him a little smile before he shuts the door, leaving him to do his own thing.
In the kitchen he can hear the pot boiling, so he pours the macaroni into the bubbling water. He sets the cheese packet to the side and heads right to the washing machine. He switches his clothes over to the dryer and loads Matt's stuff into the washer. He’ll put it on when the shower turns off so he has good water pressure to get the soap out of his hair.
It’s remarkable how easy it is.
This time yesterday he was eating cold pizza and drinking a beer, thinking he’d never have the kind of life his co-workers did. Today, he has a kid. Today he’s doing laundry and making dinner and he’s going to have to tuck a kid into bed. Tomorrow he’s going to have to take him shopping. He has no idea how he’ll keep doing this every day? If he’ll be good at it? If he’ll have the money, the strength, the energy…
All he can do is try. That’s what Wayne did, and Wayne did a fantastic job. But Wayne also had help, he had friends with kids whom Eddie got most of his things from, ladies who watched him after school and neighbours who made sure he was up in time for the bus when Wayne worked late.
He still has 6 minutes till the macaroni is done, so he heads to the phone, dials the number to his coworker and he waits.
“Hello?” Daryl’s deep voice picks up.
“Hey, it’s Eddie.”
“What’s the van doing this time?” He asks, sounding annoyed.
“Oh, nothing. No. That’s not why I called. I uh… my kid brother is going to be living with me from now on. He’s 6—
“Oh shit,” Daryl can’t believe it.
“Yeah, you and Laurene wouldn’t happen to have your boy’s old clothes still, would you?” He asks, feeling bad but he has to ask.
“We’ve got buckets of their shit down in the crawlspace, I’ll ask Laur to go through it later. I don’t think we’ve got shoes, though. Our boys went through shoes like mad— I swear if they weren’t outgrowing them they were blowing the souls out dragging them on the playground,” he goes off. Eddie can just imagine he’s shaking his head as he explains it all.
“I’ve got an allowance for him from the state, so I can get him new shoes,” Eddie assures. “He has like 4 shirts and no socks. I need to get him a coat and a backpack, and do you guys have a good doctor? He needs to get a doctor.”
Daryl laughs, “I never thought you’d be coming to me for parenting advice.”
“Me either, but he’s my brother. I wasn’t going to let him go into the system. I was with 1 family before Wayne, it wasn’t terrible but I’ve heard the horror stories. I can’t let him go through that shit.”
“You’re a good man,” Daryl compliments him. “I’ll see what we can find tomorrow, I’ll bring it by the trailer. You think he’s a regular-sized 6-year-old?”
He chuckles a bit, “I think? I’m not sure really. He’s so small. I don’t think I was ever that small.”
“We were all small once,” he smiles through the phone. “How about you come over tomorrow for lunch, he can meet our boys and we’ll figure out sizing that way?”
“Sounds perfect,” Eddie agrees. “Thanks again, Daryl. I really appreciate it.”
“Any time kid, you have a good night.”
“You too.”
Dinner goes well, they talk about his favourite colours and if he likes music. He likes blue and his dad listened to the radio a lot. He hummed some songs he liked, nothing Eddie could really recognize cause it was probably new-age country. They put their plates in the sink, Eddie shows him where the ketchup goes in the fridge and they talk about getting some groceries tomorrow. Fun food. Things for snacks and easy dinners, and Eddie’s gonna have to start packing him lunches when he goes to school.
He’s going to need a backpack and a lunch bag, a pencil case and pencils and crayons and Eddie’s going to need to help with homework. He doesn’t even know if the kid can read or write yet…
Matt grabs the comic book again and sits back down on the couch, flipping back to the page he was on before, and looking at all the pictures.
“Can you read?” Eddie asks, coming to sit beside him.
He shrugs, “kinda.”
“Cool,” he’s honestly impressed. “Have you ever had a comic book before?”
“No… is that what this is?”
“Yeah, I have a whole bunch. This is Wolverine 27, there’s 26 that come before it. I have most of them, you can read them all if you want?” He offers. “I also have some X-Men comics and a bunch of fantasy books— but they might be too advanced for you, so maybe I could read them to you?”
He nods, a sweet gleam in his eyes, “Can you read me to sleep later?”
“Of course, buddy,” he doesn’t even have to think twice. “Maybe I could read you my favourite book?”
“What is it?”
“It’s called Lord of The Rings,” he says with a smile.
Maybe raising a kid could be fun.
After explaining the plot to him and grabbing the old, well-read, book off the shelf, he looks at Matthew and the couple sheets he has laid out for him, “Would you want to sleep in my bed or out here on the couch tonight?”
“I usually sleep in Dad's room,” he explains. “I have a bed in his closet.”
The fucking closet again. Sure, it gives them both privacy, but a 3x5 room is nothing. It's stuffy and gross and you still hear everything Al gets up to in the middle of the night with his stupid friends. His heart breaks for Matthew. He wished he knew he had a brother sooner, he would’ve gotten Matthew and his mom away from Al as quick as humanly possible.
Now all he can do is make it up to him.
“Well, I was thinking you could have my room and I could get a couch that turns into a bed for me to sleep out here,” he explains his thinking. “I'm going to put all my clothes in the closet, I might get a new dresser or something for out here so you can keep all your things in your room.”
“Really? You mean it?” He lights right up. “I always wanted my own room.”
Eddie smiles right back at him, “Well, now you’ve got one. It might take a little while for me to move my things out here and make it feel more like your space, but you’ll like it.”
He nods, really happy with the thought of having his own space for the first time in his short little life. So happy, he gives Eddie a hug.
“Oh,” he’s a bit shocked at first but then he softens, holding him back with a soft smile on his face. Eddie could really get used to this. “I’m glad you’re here, buddy.”
“Me too,” he whispers against him, snuggling in, clearly tired after a long day.
“Do you want to go to bed?”
He nods, “Can I sleep with you?”
“Uh… yeah, I just have to clean up a bit out here after I read to you but I can come back to your room?” Eddie compromises. He really wants to put his stuff in the washing machine before they go out tomorrow.
He holds his hand and walks him down the hall to his bedroom, flicks on the light and watches Matt’s eyes light right up, “woah?”
“You like it?” He smirks, it’s pretty basic. White paint covered in posters and homemade flags with his band's name on them. Homemade artwork from campaigns, photos from gigs and tickets from concerts and festivals he’s been to.
“It’s so colourful,” he says as he lets go of Eddie’s hand and wanders over to his Iron Maiden poster. “He’s so… wow?”
“His name is also Eddie… he’s the mascot for Iron Maiden, I’ll show you their music tomorrow in the van,” he promises. “You sure it’s not too scary to sleep in here?”
He shakes his head, “No, it’s cool!”
He can’t help but smile, it must run in the family to love this shit. He suddenly can’t wait to show him all the music he has, maybe teach him how to play guitar or hell, he might be into drums or bass and the boys can help him out. Having a little brother is a gift he never expected. This kid is so much like him, it’s going to be so fun.
He never wanted a kid of his own… really, he just didn’t want to knock up some woman he didn’t love in the name of pretending to be straight. He didn’t want to change diapers and be up all night trying to soothe a crying crotch goblin. He’d do it if he had to, but he never put himself in the position to need to. Now he has Matt, he’s at a fun age, and he’s still mouldable. He can still be made into a good person, he’s not affected too much by their father which is a blessing. He was only with him half as long as Eddie was, and he turned out semi-okay?
He turns the covers down, fluffs a pillow and flicks on the lamp light instead of the big light. “Come sit,” he offers, going to get his book from the shelf.
Matt crawls into the bed, pulls the covers up over himself and sits there with his hands in his lap, patiently waiting for his story.
“Has anyone read to you before?”
He nods, “My mom did. Just little books, though,” he points at the massive book Eddie’s holding. “Not like that.”
“I know, but the best part about these big books is that we can read this story every night for a while. It took Wayne a whole year to read it to me at bedtime,” he explains, taking a seat in the bed beside him. “So, it starts off kind of different… the narrator gives a rundown of the world first so that when you start reading, you’re not completely lost about what a hobbit is or where they live.”
“Okay,” he nods along.
“And the way the characters talk might be a bit strange, and the words are a bit long and some don’t exist in our world. If you need help understanding, don’t be afraid to ask me what something means,” he explains. “It’s hard to understand sometimes, but I’ve read it so many times I know almost everything about it.”
He nods, leaning into Eddie’s arm and looking at the pages. “Are there pictures?”
He shakes his head, “No, but I have drawn some of the scenes in my sketchbook, I can show you them later?”
“Okay,” he settles against him and that’s how Eddie knows it’s time to start.
“This book is largely concerned with Hobbits, and from its pages a reader may discover much of their character and a little of their history…”
He reads in his most normal voice, he’ll introduce voices for the characters later. he’s actually really excited about that. Wayne used to try and do voices for him, but he never could keep them consistent. Eddie, on the other hand, would do voices in his head when he read the book to himself.
“They do not and did not understand or like machines more complicated than a forge-bellows, a water-mill, or a hand-loom, though they were skilful with tools. Even in ancient days they were, as a rule, shy of ‘the Big Folk’, as they call us,—
“Wait, so Hobbits are tiny?” Matthew asks.
He nods, “Yeah, they’re probably about your size when they’re my age, but they have big hairy feet.”
Matthew laughs, “I think I’m going to like this book.”
Eddie smiles, “I think so, too”
Wayne doesn’t work the same night shifts that he used to. He’s too old for that shit. Now, he comes home around 11pm, gets to sleep all night and goes back in at 3pm. He likes it this way. He’s always been more of a night owl, he enjoys sleeping when the sun is up more than anything, it runs in the family. It took Eddie most of his life to get onto a “normal” schedule for his 9-5.
Wayne knocks on the trailer door lightly just as Eddie’s switching the laundry over. He rushes to the door and holds his finger up to his lips as he opens it, “Hey, let me come out here.”
Wayne’s a little confused but he backs up and lets Eddie outside. “What’s goin’ on? You got someone over?”
“Al had another kid after he got out, or during? I’m not sure about the logistics, but he got arrested again and now Matthew’s going to be living with me,” he explains.
“That old fucker got another woman knocked up?” Wayne can’t believe it. “The courts should castrate ya after CPS takes two kids out of y’r care.”
Eddie just chuckles, “Yeah, well, at least this one got away at 6.”
“6?” Wayne repeats, eyes wide, “are you sure y’r up for that?”
He nods, “he’s pretty calm and quiet. The social worker got us set up with an allowance so I’ll get $500 a month to take care of him and Daryl and his wife are going to hook us up with some hand-me-downs. Tomorrow I’m getting him some new shoes and underwear and a coat. And socks. He didn’t come with any socks?”
“You didn’t either,” Wayne reminds him.
He sighs, remembering all too well just how hard it was to be with Al for so long. “Yeah, well, we’re getting him everything he needs now. I need to get him set up at school, he needs a doctor, too… but we’ll be okay.”
“You said his name is Matthew?”
He nods, “had to teach him what nicknames are too. He likes Matt so far.”
“Good, good,” Wayne places his hands on his hips and shakes his head. “Wow, never thought I’d be here again.”
“I told him you’re my dad,” Eddie explains. “Al’s just the man who made us, but dads take care of us.”
Wayne lets out a huff and presses his lips together, his eyes well a bit, “boy…”
“I know, I know,” Eddie laughs it off. “You’re not good with emotions, but it’s true. And who knows, he might start calling you grandpa with this logic.”
“You’re gonna be a good dad to that kid,” Wayne compliments, meaning it with every fibre of his being.
Eddie just reaches out and hugs him, “Yeah, well, I learned from the best.”

you had been in bali when you got the call. you and bradley, in bali, relaxing. but who ever said naval pilots get to relax?
it was something you had gotten far too used to, having to pack up your things and get the first flight back to the states. sure, you had been the one to chose this career and the disruptions you faced were consequences of your own actions, but you had really - really, really - hoped that you didn’t get called up when you did.
two weeks in bali with bradley bradshaw, the highlight of your year. it had been planned for almost a year, which was saying something. normally you and bradley would say you’d do something, and it would never actually end up happening. but no - this vacation had went ahead, and you’d had six days of utter bliss before the dreaded number showed up on your phone.
bradley had been phoned right after you, his reaction being about the same. annoyed, upset but somewhat excited. what the fuck was all this about? both you and him being on the same mission?
and so you had packed all your stuff and made your way back to california, dropped your bags off at your separate apartments and rushed to put together an emergency bag, with your uniforms and workout clothes inside.
that took you up to now, sat in the passenger side of bradley’s new range rover, forty minutes into the drive back to the naval base on lake tahoe. it wasn’t far away now - only ten or so minutes, but the sun was beginning to slowly dip it’s head, ever so slightly.
you were still dressed in your summer clothes, a tight, black dress with white lining and held up by a strap around your neck. it was low cut, a little lower than you’d like for the first time meeting your other teammates, but there wasn’t any time to get changed.
bradley was dressed in the same way, tight white tank top covered in a hawaiian shirt, nude-coloured cargos covering his thighs. and, of course, his aviator glasses. was it really bradley without them?
he turned into one of the roads leading to the hard deck - a bar frequented by everyone within a mile vicinity - and you turned to look at him, right as the sunlight hit him. golden rays washed over his skin, his collarbones shining and under his sunglasses you could see his brown eyes - turned like honey in the light.
you thought he looked beautiful, but you’d never tell him.
“this better be good,” he spoke, breaking the moment of silence. “that hotel cost a fuckin’ fortune.”
rolling your eyes, you nodded. “you’re lucky i remembered we get travel insurance. who was it that was determined we didn’t, again?”
“oh, shut up,” bradley said, but you could see the outline of a smirk on his mouth. “no one ever told me we get that.”
“lies!” you laughed. “they put it in the ads, that if you get called up while away, they pay you back whatever you lost.”
it was bradley’s turn to roll his eyes. “alright, miss ‘i always read the fine print’.”
“at least i can read,” you joked back.
electing to ignore the snide comment he made back, you reached into the passenger side compartment, searching for your own sunglasses - feeling nothing. you looked around the car, sighing in defeat as you realised you must have left your pair at home.
spotting another pair of aviators on the dashboard, you picked them up. “can i borrow these?”
bradley looked at what you were referring to, almost laughing when he saw his spare glasses in your hand.
“go ahead, sugar, i won’t need ‘em.”
putting the sunglasses on, you pushed down the butterflies in your stomach that flew around with the pet name.
the hard deck came into view, looking busy already. it was so loud - you could practically hear the music playing from the jukebox all the way out here.
“takes you back, huh?” you asked.
“that it does,” bradley pulled into a parking spot. “feels like yesterday we were here last.”
“wrong,” you undid your seatbelt. “yesterday we were in a five star villa in bali.”
opening the car door, you stepped onto the concrete, your heels clicking against the ground. why did you wear these again? good god, it would be a long night. bradley joined you, walking towards the front door of the bar. it was so loud now - it was like you were already inside.
he pulled the door open, letting you in first. fireworks exploded all over your body as his hand moved around your waist, letting him manoeuvre himself to be standing next to you. you let him take the lead to where the rest of your team appeared to be, and you watched him walk - his swagger that was just so fucking hot almost making you forget you were stood completely still.
most of the faces you recognised - actually, you recognised all of them. pheonix, hangman, fanboy and payback we’re speaking to bradley, and someone you had recently been introduced to was the first person to notice you.
“rainfall! hey, how’s it going?” bob smiled at you, the other people snapping their heads to look at you as well.
“yeah, alright, how’re you?” you answered, him nodding a reply.
“wow,” hangman spoke first. “both rooster and rainfall arrive late, not in uniform? been busy, you two?”
“about as busy as your mum, hangman.” you retorted, those around you letting out a surprised laugh.
“that’s not the most important question,” pheonix tilted her head. “what the hell is this? what can they possibly be trying do here?”
you furrowed your eyebrows, prompting her to go on; “well, we’re the best there is. who the hell can teach us?”
the question took you by surprise - but it wasn’t irrelevant. the only briefing you had was this was a training program for an intense mission, and only those who had came top of the top gun class would be accepted, so, pheonix was thinking right. who could possible teach the best pilots out there?
a bell rang throughout the bar, interrupting your thoughts. everyone cheered, knowing exactly what the bell meant.
“poor guy,” rooster mumbled. “i’m going to the restroom, get me a drink?”
you nodded, walking over to the bar.
he wasn’t recognisable at first - he looked so different. but it was the eyes that gave it away, he was still young behind the eyes.
“it’s you, then.” you mumbled, taking the empty spot next to him at the bar.
maverick looked at you, realisation hitting when he clocked who you were. “nice to meet you, rainfall. i’ve heard lost about you.”
“so have i.” looking at him, he wasn’t the man you had built up in your head. he looked nicer.
sighing, maverick nodded slowly. “i thought that’s who you came in with.”
“he won’t want you to teach him, you know that, right? you… you ruined his life, maverick. his mum’s, too.” you said, although you knew it wasn’t anything he hadn’t heard a million times already.
“yep,” maverick clicked his tongue. “i thought that would be an issue.”
“he hates you.”
“i know.”
bradley might have hated maverick, but you didn’t. sure, he was an arrogant ass from what you had heard and he destroyed your best friends family, but you personally had nothing against him.
penny walked over to you, interrupting your conversation with her greetings.
“wow, y/n, you’re here too? damn, what a mission.”
“hey, pen,” you smiled. “i know, i know.”
she raised her eyebrows. “must be serious, huh?”
you raised your hands in defence. “i have absolutely no idea what this mission’s about, swear.”
humming in response, she changed the subject; “what’re you for?”
“uhh, a blue WKD for me and the house beer for brad.”
she nodded, looking at the man next to you. “he’s paying, by the way.”
you almost laughed, turning to maverick. “unlucky son of a bitch. you better take a loan out, maverick.”
“how was i meant to know the rules, huh? i’ve not been here in god knows how long.” he grumbled.
both you and penny chuckled as she served your drinks, taking one in each hand and moving away from the bar, you turned to look at maverick again.
“mav,” you called, and he looked around. “good luck.”
he smiled, nodding. you would admit it would be hard work for him, and it must be difficult to teach the boy who’s father you watched die. but then again, he could have declined the job.
spotting bradley, you walked over to him and handed him the glass of beer. he thanked you, face contorting in disgust as you noticed what you were drinking.
“i don’t know how you stomach that stuff, sugar, it’s all sweetener.”
“says the man who threw up after three of them. they’re only like, three percent as well.”
bradley narrowed his eyes. “all sweetener.”
laughing, you walked with him to join the rest of the group. your feet already began to ache with every step you took, straps digging into your ankle. god - it would be a long night.
-
if you were counting how many drinks deep you were, you’d have used up all your fingers. you’d been here for a few hours, at least, the sun was almost setting now.
you could see it from the small window in the bathroom, the blur effect on the window turning the sunset into just colour. you didn’t need to pee or anything, just a minute. it was a fair assumption to say you were an extrovert, and loved to be around people, but the noise of the crowd in the bar had become slightly too loud, especially as maverick had just been thrown overboard.
the sound of a piano playing came muffled through the door, followed by a familiar singing voice. it made you smile; hearing bradley drunkenly scream out ‘great balls of fire’.
washing your hands and quickly drying them, you walked back out of the bathroom and into the crowd, thanking the girl who had been holding your drink for you. you walked towards the piano, seeing bradley completely in his element.
“kiss me baby, ooh! that feels good, good!” he sang, everyone joining in.
leaning against the piano, you joined in, the lyrics coming as a second language, this song was practically indented into your brain.
as you sang, you watched bradley’s hands hit every note perfectly, his fingers tracing the keys with a gentle-harshness, something that just about set you off. a man who was good with his fingers? lord have mercy.
he looked at you, as if on cue, smiling as you sang out the words. bradley took a spilt second to remove his hands from the keys, gesturing to his lap.
you tilted your head. he can’t be serious, can he?
“sit!” he called, hands going back to playing the instrumental section.
maybe it was the drinks you’d had, influencing your system. but it took you the whole of two seconds to decide to follow his order, slipping under his arm and placing yourself down on his lap. people around you whooped, especially the ones in your team. had this happened before? you couldn’t remember through the tipsy-horny-lovesick haze that had clouded your vision.
bradley’s leg bounced, making you laughing against his chest. when he started singing, you joined in with him, your voice coming out as more of a tuned shout compared to bradley’s angelic singing voice.
“kiss me baby,” you looked up at him. that second you made eye contact - that whole second - felt like an eternity. it felt like no one was watching, thay for once the love that remained behind your eyes finally appeared behind his, too.
or maybe that was the vodka shots talking.
“ooh! that feels good, good,” he sang.
you looked away, staring at his hands once again while you sang the words. if you had kept staring, you would have seen the way he looked at you while he sang; “i’ma tell the world that you’re mine, mine, mine, mine!”
if you had seen that, you probably would have melted on the spot.
the song came to an end, everyone cheering for bradley’s fantastic piano performance, yourself included. you fell against his chest, laughing like a schoolgirl. he laughed too, taking his hands off of the keys to embrace you.
was this normal for best friends, you wondered? did everyone do this when they were drunk? the answer: wait and find out.
“i’m gonna get a drink,” you smiled at him, finally standing up.
“alright, darlin’, get me a beer?”
“god,” you feigned annoyance. “one day you’ll pay for your own beers, bradley bradshaw.”
you walked away before you heard his mumbled comeback; “yeah, our wedding day.” but, even if you hadn’t walked away, what would you have done?
walking to the bar, you leaned against it, ordering with penny for the god-knows-how-many-th time that night.
“thanks,” you smiled.
“is that a tan line i see?” penny asked, pouring out a beer.
“yep,” you popped the ‘p’. “i was in bali with brad, was supposed to be there until next week.”
“oh,” she sat down one of the glasses. “but you got called up?”
nodded, you took a drink of bradley’s beer, instantly regretting it. “fuckin’ hate the navy sometimes.”
penny stopped in her tracks. “oh, y/n, did i just hear what i think i did?”
your eyes widened. “no, penny, please, i’m seriously broke right now, i’m begging-”
the bell ringing cut you off. hanging your head, you felt multiple people clap your back.
“oh, no, what do we have here?” bradley appeared at your side, laughing.
“this one,” penny giggled. “was insulting the navy.”
bradley exaggerated a gasp, putting his hands over his mouth. “no!”
“yep!”
“tut, tut, tut, lieutenant l/n!” he joked.
you raised your middle finger in response.
“honestly, rooster,” penny was half way away, walking to serve another customer. “get your girlfriend under control!”
the heat rose to your cheeks, head snapping up. luckily for you, you were ninety-nine percent sure that bradley didn’t hear her, but when you were sober, you’d have to tell her off about almost spilling your decade long secret.
“my god, brad,” you walked away from the bar. “i’m gonna be so broke tomorrow.”
he giggled, a sound your drunk mind would have registered as the trumpets of heaven, the best music in the world - every lovely sound put together. god, how in love were you?
“come on, rainfall,” bradley led you to the table the group were all sat at. “the night is young!”
-
there’s a saying, if you had a dollar for every time this happened, you’d be rich. well, if you had a dollar for every time you’d gotten blackout drunk the day before the first day of training and had to get up at the crack of dawn, you’d have slightly too many dollars. every time, every single time.
as you sat, shoulders straight and hair tied ever so slightly too tight, the commander speaking about something you weren’t properly listening to - the thought of about seventy aspirin was popping into your mind, almost soothing your headache with the sheer thought of it.
footsteps came from behind you, but you didn’t turn around. you knew who it was. instead, you looked at bradley, who was sat in the chair next to you.
as his eyes fell on maverick, you noticed the way his whole smug demeanour fell - for just a moment. you then noticed how he put those walls straight back up, clenching his jaw and shifting in his seat. he cleared his throat, making eye contact with you and raising his eyebrows.
looking away, maverick started speaking.
you must have been truly hungover, because from the second maverick opened his mouth to right now felt like it went by in a blink - you couldn’t tell if you had dissociated the entire time or if you weren’t interested enough to actually pay attention.
zipping up your flight suit, you smiled to yourself. this was your first training exercise for what seemed to be an impossible mission. getting in and out of a thin passage within a minute and a half seemed unrealistic, but compared with the insanely low hard deck and the pull up? you’d be lucky if you made it out alive.
a few planes were already in the air as you stepped onto the tarmac, helmet in hand. looking to your right, you saw two planes, to your left; pheonix and bob doing push-ups.
the exercise was simple; don’t get caught. if you do, you have to do two hundred press ups.
you had almost laughed when maverick set the exercise, how insanely easy it sounded. unfortunately for maverick, he had never flown with you before - he hadn’t quite learnt the meaning of your call sign.
radio chatter sounded from your headset as you climbed into your plane, spotting bradley on the tarmac as well. everyone had insisted you two went last - the top two of the class. even hangman bit back his ego for two seconds to admit that you had finished top of the class, so you should go last.
that’s right, you came top of your class. one of the best pilots of the last decade, apparently. it had earned you quite a reputation, pilots almost always recognising you wherever you went. you were some kind of a legend.
buckling yourself in and triple checking your belts were secure, you pulled your helmet over your head, and your ears were filled with radio chatter. bradley got into the plane next to you, doing the same thing.
“when are we ready to take off, mav?” you asked, closing the top of your plane.
“any time now, rainfall.” he replied.
it was a feeling you always craved, taking off. as a little girl, you used to love going on holiday, just because when the plane would take off and your stomach would turn, it made you smile. from that moment, and from the moment you saw the pilots in all the different documentaries, you knew you wanted to fly planes.
just in a little more extreme way. a way, way more extreme way.
gaining speed, you clicked the needed buttons and flipped the right switches in order to take off, and the tarmac got smaller and smaller as you flew higher into the sky. hearing bradley take off a few moments later, you knew the game was about to begin.
you knew this would be personal for bradley - getting beaten by maverick. anything maverick did to him, it would be personal. you prayed he would be able to separate the pilot from the person, just for a minute.
“good morning aviators,” maverick spoke. “ready to play?”
“oh you are on,” you smiled, still gaining height. “old man.”
bradley laughed over the radio, making you smile even wider.
“for everyone listening over the radio,” you spoke. “get ready to listen to the best flight of your life.”
down on the ground, the rest of the team laughed.
“ready?” maverick asked. “three, two, one… the game has begun.”
you understood the purpose of this exercise - dogfighting. to watch out for yourself while attacking at the same time. playing both offence and defence.
seeing bradley slip into your peripheral, you looked around for the other plane. still gaining height, you hoped to god that your technique would stay reliable.
everything felt like a blur - you were flying so fast, so high, nothing felt real. keeping your eye out for maverick, you swerved through the clouds.
“all alright, rooster?” you hated calling him by his call sign. if felt so… impersonal, weird.
“all good here, rainfall. you?”
you nodded, even though he wouldn’t see it. “no sign of him.”
looking down, you could see bradley underneath you and to the right. he wouldn’t even notice you, if he hadn’t learnt to always look up.
“oh hello, you,” he said, the smugness seeping through the radio.
“hello, rooster.” you smiled.
as you stared down at him, a second plane came into view, far enough away that bradley wouldn’t notice him.
“rooster, on your left!” you called, swerving away as soon as you said it.
“shit,” he mumbled, and you could see him fly away.
“language, folks, come on.” maverick laughed.
“alright grandpa.” you joked back.
looking below you, you could barely see the two planes dogfighting, but from the small glimpse you got, it wasn’t looking great for bradley. maverick was too fast.
“hurry up, rooster,” you spoke your mind. “he’s faster than you.”
“yeah, thanks for that observation.” he grumbled back.
“cheeky.”
from your point of view, the dogfighting was getting even more intense, bradley constantly being tailed by maverick. you hoped once again, that bradley didn’t take this too seriously.
a dial tone broke your thought.
“and rooster, you are out.” maverick spoke over the radio, making you sigh.
“fuck you.”
and there it was; all of your proof that bradley had taken it personally. fuck, this would be a hard one to calm him down from.
“ready to fight, rainfall?” maverick said, and you could almost see his smirk.
pushing everything else in your mind to the side, you let the calm, slightly arrogant side of you take control.
“do you know why my call sign is rainfall?” you asked, already spotting maverick below you.
“i suppose you’re going to enlighten me?”
you let a beat of silence pass, making sure you were in the right position. it was obvious maverick was looking for you, but you were at least fifty feet above him, slightly in front of him. why did no one ever look up?
“or not?” maverick added.
“because,” you paused, gripping your gearstick a little tighter. “rain always comes from above, and you don’t see it until it’s on you.”
with those words, you descended with absolutely no warning. as you came closer to maverick, he seemed obviously surprised, fumbling for a moment to move out of the way so you didn’t fall straight into him.
“jesus, kid,” he mumbled.
“did you know that i came top of my class?” you pulled back up without hesitation, g-force pushing you back ever so slightly.
“yeah, i read it somewhere,” maverick was flying parallel to you. “i wasn’t too of my class.”
“oh, i know,” you somehow managed to keep your tone casual. “iceman, right?”
maverick hummed over the radio, obviously too focused on getting you out.
but your technique was working perfectly. descend on them, climb up, and when the least expect it….
pulling away, you circled around maverick, seeing the outline of a target appear in your helmet. he hadn’t even realised what you had done.
a dial tone sounded through the radio silence, everyone on land holding their breath - even bradley.
“you,” a voice cut through the radio. “are out. good game, maverick.”
the people on ground cheered almost loud enough for you to hear all the way up in the air.
“what the hell?” maverick was in disbelief. “what?”
“i’ll see you on ground, mav.”
-
the sun was already setting by the time maverick had finished his press ups. he must not have taken in personally, offering to buy you a drink for how well you had flown.
but you didn’t want a drink, you were too concerned with other things. it had been hours since the training had ended, and bradley was still outside, doing press ups.
you walked onto the tarmac, out of your flight suit and in casual clothes, the figure of bradley noticeable - everything still apart from him.
he was shaking, sweating, almost sunburnt. the most noticeable thing was his red eyes, they were so red you thought he must have burst a blood vessel.
“bradley?” you called, getting closer to him. he didn’t answer.
walking right next to where he was, you sat down. sat, right on the hot tarmac - it heated up your legs. “bradley, please,” you called again.
this wasn’t new - for him to do exercise until he just about burst. some people punch walls, some people drink - bradley worked out. maybe it was just as unhealthy as every other coping mechanism.
his arms were so shaky, he almost couldn’t even keep himself up right. you wanted right then and there to take him into your arms, let him cry his heart out and tell him that one day - one day in the future - it will get easier.
as if he could hear your thoughts, he stopped. collapsed onto the ground, arms finally giving in. you could hear him, choking out sobs between breaths - it just about broke your heart.
“come here,” your fingers brushed his arm, and it was like he just needed the instruction to do so, because he moved into your arms and clung onto your shirt, just like a baby.
you didn’t care where you were. no one was looking, anyway. everyone went home or went elsewhere hours ago, you and bradley were most likely the only two people left there.
“what is it?” you cooed, gently running a hand through his hair.
“he- my dad, he- maverick-” and that was all he had to stutter out for you to understand.
“i know, i know,” you bent over him, almost encasing him in your body. kissing his head, you repeated the phrase over and over again.
it was in that moment that for the second time in twenty four hours you thought to yourself - is this normal for best friends to do? it is, right? like, you would do it for any of your other friends?or maybe that’s what you liked to tell yoursef to deny the simple fact;
you were in love with bradley bradshaw, your best friend.

WIBTA if I changed my name because people are overusing the nickname privilege?
2 years ago, I (29, transmasculine) changed my name. For the sake of this ask, since I don't want to use my real name, a decent equivalent is James, so I'll be using that instead.
I originally told my mom and my roommate/close friend (Alex, 29, agender) I was okay with the nickname Jamie, but I'd prefer to mostly be called James, especially when it comes to people I don't know well.
I tried to set this boundary because the nickname feels a little feminine, even if it's technically gender neutral. I don't pass very often, so it makes me uncomfortable to think people who don't know me might misunderstand, and think I am simply a woman with a gender neutral nickname. So I envisioned Jamie being reserved for the people closest to me because of that.
Both my mom and Alex opted to call me Jamie immediately. They introduced me to friends, family members, and even strangers as Jamie, put my name in their phone as Jamie. My mom sends me packages addressed to "Jamie [lastname]". Just the other day, Alex's grandma sent us chocolates in the mail and the note inside said "Merry Christmas Alex and Jamie!" and I am not close to her by any means, I am positive Alex must have told her that's my name. Just tons and tons of little things like that.
It took me a while to catch on - at first I thought people simply decided to call me Jamie on their own, or heard Alex or my mom talk to me and figured it was okay. I'm autistic, so it takes a while to figure out the best way to approach a problem involving social skills. I didn't want to immediately jump in and say "hey, don't call me that, you don't know me well enough," because I think that's a bit callous. And I thought I was dealing with just a few acquaintances - not literally everyone Alex or my mom talks to.
I confronted both of them about a year ago, when I finally put it together. They said they're not intentionally disregarding my feelings, but "Jamie suits you so much more" so they forget and it just slips out.
(I could be wrong, but I think this is probably because Jamie can be a girl's name and I still look like a girl. So, yeah, of course they'd feel that way.)
I begged them to stop and call me James if they're talking to people about me. My mom promptly "forgot" again. Alex has gotten better about it, but still slips up. Even if they were perfect, I feel like the damage is done after 2 years of this.
To further complicate things, Alex actively avoids using pronouns to refer to people in speech. They will say things like "I've been told that the flight was canceled" instead of "he said he canceled the flight". This is due to anxiety because they're not great at remembering pronouns & doesn't want to accidentally misgender anyone. So there is a lot of general confusion about my pronouns amongst the groups that are connected to Alex. (I don't really use social media, so informing people of my pronouns is more complicated than just putting them in my bio and calling it a day. I've asked Alex to please just say he/him, but they're so resistant and weird about it because of their irrational fears, which...honestly just feels transphobic now).
Now I've started to ask them to drop the nickname entirely, even privately. Call me James and nothing else forever. Jamie has been thoroughly ruined for me, I just feel nauseous when I see or hear it. But at this point, since I lost my job & most of my social network is through Alex, everyone calls me Jamie, and it's exhausting to correct them over and over when it's such a small, seemingly pedantic thing. I don't mind a little confrontation or advocating for myself, but this...this is beyond what I can handle without getting severely stressed out.
So I've been considering changing my name to something else that doesn't have such a common gender neutral/feminine nickname. Just start over. Reset.
But this would be the third time I've changed my name. The first time was like 6 years ago, and it only lasted a few months before I decided it didn't fit, and went back to using my deadname while I figured myself out. My family remembers this well, and 2 years ago when I told them I go by James now, expressed their frustration because I "keep changing things and it's confusing". I'm worried that if I change my name again, nobody will bother to take it seriously, they'll just assume I'll change it again, so why bother using the correct name at all.
Plus I do see how it could be considered petty or immature. It took years to settle on the name I have now. I put a ton of thought into it. I used to love it. I might be TA for letting something as unimportant as an overused nickname sway me to the point where I feel like I need to throw the whole name away.
I mean, I understand why younger trans people might do that, since they have less of their life established and are figuring out who they are, but I'm nearly 30, so I feel like I am getting too old for this. It's just tiring.
Idk, I probably won't make any decisions based on the results of this, but the feedback would be helpful to consider. WIBTA?
What are these acronyms?

are you still working on the Elijah mikaelson Bridgeton fic?
I'm sorry it took so long 😭😭 Lots of life changes have been occurring. But here it is, a small blurb of what could be the start of a series if you guys like it.
The Social Season
Pairing: Elijah Mikaelson x reader Summary: The Mikaelsons have returned to London for this year's social season. No girl had ever caught Elijah's eye before, until now. Word Count: 2772 Masterlist
Tumblr media
London 1814
The London social season had been in full swing by the time the Mikaelsons had returned to the city during one of Lady Danbury’s events. Elijah and his siblings had barely walked through the doors before ruthless mamas began to smooth our their daughter’s dresses while eyeing them from across the room. Elijah was the prize, certainly, but if any woman was to catch a Mikaelson son at all they would consider it a win. Rebekah had also never had a difficulty keeping her dance card full.
It was well past the first soiree of the season, but it was the first that the Mikaelson siblings had made an appearance at. The marriage-minded missus of the city (and their mamas) always kept a keen eye out for them. While they may not have had the status of the Duke, the Mikaelson family was both well known, respected, and equally as feared. Not even Lady Whistledown dared to write more than their names.
“Must we return to this god-awful city every year?” Niklaus groaned as the wave of young bachelorettes swarmed towards them.
“Speak for yourself,” Kol smiled, watching the ladies with a much different expression. “I rather like being adored.”
“Mikaelsons!” they all heard coming from the opposite direction. Upon inspection they saw none other than Anthony Bridgerton advancing towards them. Rebekah and Elijah turned toward him with bright smiles with Niklaus and Kol tended to the hoard of ladies with empty dance cards.
“Bridgerton,” Elijah greeted with a smile, meeting his arm in the middle to shake his hand in greeting.
“You’ve missed a great amount in the short few weeks you’ve been absent this season.”
“Yes, well, we had some family business to tie up back in the states across the water.”
“No matter, you are all here now. You must join our family for a promenade sometime soon so I might regale you with all the happenings from the season thus far.”
“I’m sure we’ll catch up plenty with a reading of the last couple Lady Whistledown issues,” Rebekah remarked with a small chuckle.
“Yes but surely, sister, as you know as well as I Whistledown doesn’t know everything,” Elijah corrected before turning back to Anthony with a smile. “We’ll be glad to join you, Bridgerton. You shall name the day.”
“Fantastic! Oh and we must not forget the ball my mother is hosting at our estate in the country. You’d all be welcome there as my guests if you so desire.”
“I would be honored, my lord,” Rebekah said with a smile, bowing her head slightly. It was no secret that she fancied the man. Her whole family could see it. While Rebekah had no intention of being courted or heavens forbid marrying anyone, she could still dream about the life she might live were she able to. The beautiful family that might surround her. The number of children she and the viscount might have been able to have together. But that was nothing more than a fantasy. Precisely the reason that Elijah was hardly ever seen taking any young ladies to the floor. He felt it foolish to fill them with futile hopes of him proposing. Every respectable lady of the ton desired marriage, children, a real family. Something none of the Mikaelsons would be able to provide.
Nonetheless, the Mikaelsons always appeared before the ton each year during the height of the social season just long enough to maintain appearances. Not to mention, Kol had not found an easier afternoon snack than that of a young lady hoping for a betrothal. They never killed any of the members of the ton, of course. Such a high standing society member would surely be missed. Nothing a bit of the vampires’ own blood and a little compulsion couldn’t resolve.
“You must meet my dear cousin,” Anthony stated after a brief moment. “She’s come to live with us after the passing of her mother, my aunt.”
Anthony turned as he beckoned you over to them. Elijah sighed as he looked down at his feet, readjudsting his posture to be more proper as he awaited your arrival. When his eyes met yours, however, his reluctance towards the introduction vanished.
“Mikaelsons,” Anthony continued. “This is my cousin, miss Y/n Ledger.”
“A pleasure,” you said with a polite smile and a perfect curtsy.
“The pleasure is mine,” Elijah replied quickly, offering his hand for you to take. Once you softly placed your hand into his, Elijah brought it ever so slowly up to his lips as he touched the softest kiss to your gloved hand; an action that did not go unnoticed by Rebekah, nor the ravenous mamas behind them. Elijah was not one to give more than a curt nod to young ladies introducing themselves. “Lady Ledger-”
“Just miss Ledger,” you corrected. “Lady Ledger was my grandmother.”
While the response was simple, it answered many of Elijah’s questions. For one, you were not married. If you had been married you would either hold a title as a lady or hold a different last name than your grandmother. Second, your mother was not married. Had your father been a Ledger himself, your mother would hold the title of Lady Ledger, not your grandmother. As that title is still her grandmother’s to hold, your mother hadn’t married a lord to gain the title herself. Thirdly, she must be related to the Bridgertons through the sister of the current vicountesses Bridgerton.
“Pardon me, Miss Ledger. Would you care to do me the honor of a d-”
“Y/n, surely you must join me for a cool glass of lemonade,” Rebekah interrupted, linking her arm through yours as she dragged you away to the drinks table.
Elijah stood dumbfounded as you both walked away. Rebakah knew it was improper to interrupt, but after living for 800 years she couldn’t come to care. Elijah watched your expression closely. He expected a protest, or for you to at least look back towards him. There wasn’t a chance you didn’t catch what he wanted to ask you. Any other lady would have jumped at the opportunity to be led to the floor by a Mikaelson. Especially by Elijah, being the eldest for all intents and purposes.
As soon as the two of you were gone, Elijah was swarmed by the ton much like his brothers were just moments before. Nikalus and Kol could not agree to another single dance, having agreed to partner with a different lady for each one, so naturally the crowd has turned next
‘’ towards both Elijah and Anthony, knowing this was the season the viscount longed to secure a wife.
Anthony looked towards Elijah with raised eyebrows as he let out a deep sigh before having to face the wolves.
---
As the week went on, Elijah and Rebekah agreed to join the Bridgerton family in a turn about the park in Mayfair. Rebekah loved their family. She envied Violet’s ability to have so many children. A life she longed for herself. Elijah, on the other hand, wanted to know more about you.
“Bridgertons,” Elijah greeted the family with a nod as they approached. “Miss Ledger,” he said toward you.
“My lord,” you greeted back with a smile and a small bow.
“Would you care for a turnabout the lake?” he offered, holding his arm out for you.
“Oh,” you said with a slight tone of surprise, looking back at the Bridgerton family. Before you could find the words to accept or deny, Violet spoke up for you.
“She would love one,” Violet beamed with a nod, pulling you forward to take his arm.
You chuckled in defeat as you wrapped you arm around his, hand resting on the crook of his elbow.
The two of you had barely gotten ten feet from the rest of the family before he bagan to bombard you with questions. You didn’t mind, of course. Most most began conversations this way, especially when “interviewing” their potential matches.
“So I really must ask,” he began. “How is it that you’re not married yet?”
You chuckled at his question, one of the ones you expected to hear first. “Well, my mother had me out of wedlock. If it wasn’t for or connection to the Bridgertons then I would be labeled a bastard child and thrown out of society entirely. Instead, my mother trained me from a young age so I could have the perfect match. She was determined. Too determined. Her determination ended up turning away a lot of possible suitors.”
As you spoke, you noticed Elijah was genuinely interested in what you had to say. He wasn’t spaced out as you rambled on, he didn’t seem annoyed or simply waiting for you to be finished. He wanted to know about you. About your life.
“As the seasons past, and I got older, everyone began to lose interest. I’ve been officially put ‘on the shelf’ as they would call it, at the ripe age of three and twenty.”
“Yet you still attend events with the rest of the ton?” he questioned.
“Living with the Bridgertons comes with a surplus of invitations,” you explained with a smile. “And Eloise needs encouragement through her first season.”
Elijah let out a laugh at that. “I pity any man who tries to tame her.”
“Not possible,” you rebutted with a laugh of your own. “Eloise is one horse that cannot be tamed.”
As you continued to walk, you noticed many eyes turned to stare at the two of you.
“And what of you?” you asked him. It was his turn to answer your questions.
“What of me?”
“Surely you have your number of available matches. Why have you gone so long without securing one?”
Elijah chucked while glancing to the floor, watching your feet walk in sync. “In truth I’ve never had the desire to settle down with anyone,” he explained. “It didn’t seem like the type of life I was meant to live.”
“And now?” you asked. Both of your steps had halted as you turned to face one another, his eyes searching yours as if trying to find the words to answer you.
“Now…” he began, not truly knowing what his answer was. “Now, I’m not sure what the future holds for me.”
The two of you stayed in silence you a couple moments longer, stuck searching the others eyes for answers to questions you didn’t know. It wasn’t until you remembered where you were that you tore your eyes from his, clearing your throat.
“We should make our way back,” you said simply. “They’ll be serving tea under the gazebo soon. Would you and your sister care to join us?”
It was Elijah’s turn tp clear his own throat, facing back towards the path in front of you as he continued to walk.
“Indeed,” he nodded. “That would be quite agreeable.”
After a few moments of silence, you spoke up again. “You must join us in Aubrey Hall next week.”
“Yes, Lord Bridgerton mentioned retiring to the country for a ball his mother is hosting.”
“He’s invited the Sharma family to join us before the rest of the invited guests arrive, I insist your family do the same.”
“Are you certain?” he asked with raised eyebrows. “We would not wish to be a burden.”
“It’s no trouble at all,” you assured him. “There is plenty of space and I could use the company while Anthony is busy in his dance of courtship. I shall discuss it with the family upon our return.”
As the two of you walked back towards the Bridgertons, you felt eyes on you left and right. Both lords and ladys staring at the pair of you with two feelings on their mind. Confusing and envy.
---
As the Mikaelsons dismounted from their carriage at Aubrey Hall, the entirety of the Bridgerton family was waiting to greet them.
“Lord Mikaelson,” Violet smiled, greeting him with open arms.
“Elijah, please,” he corrected, bowing his head slightly towards her. “You’ve invited us to be guests in your home, its only fair that you might call us by our given names. You know my sister, Rebekah,” he continued, motioning towards his siblings. “And might I introduce my brother, Niklaus and Kol.”
“A pleasure, Lady Bridgerton,” Kol greeted with a bow of his own, followed by Niklaus.
“You have a lovely home,” he spoke up with a warm smile.
“While you’re here you may think of it as your own,” Violet began before motioning towards the front doors. “Please, we were just about to sit down for tea. The Sharmas should be arriving any moment.”
As the group walked into the house, Elijah’s face lit up with a smile seeing you sitting in the parlor, waiting for everyone else.
“My lord,” you smiled, standing up to offer a quick curtsy. “I’m pleased you could make it.”
Elijah grabbed your hand before your eyes raised to meet his, bringing it once more up to lightly caress it with his lips. Your breath hitches in your throat as this time, you weren’t wearing your gloves.
“I wouldn’t miss it,” his said, looking back at you with a smile, you hand staying in his while he looks up at you.
His eyes held yours for another moment before you heard a throat clear behind you. Elijah turned to see Kol with a sly smirk on his face.
“Ah, yes, miss Ledger allow me to introduce my brothers, Kol and Niklaus.”
Both men in question smiled warmly as they each gave the the girl a quick bow.
“Brother,” Elijah continued. “I’d like you both to meet miss Y/n Ledger. Cousin to the Bridgertons.”
“Pleased to make your acquaintance,” you said with a smile of your own, giving a small curtsy.
“Miss Ledger,” Niklaus starting, stepping forward to be next to Elijah. “I hear you’re quite the artist. I myself dabble in painting every now and again, I’d love to see your work.”
Elijah looked towards his brother uneasily. Anyone who overheard him may have taken his comment as a kind remark, but Elijah didn’t miss the calculating grin on his face. He had an agenda.
“An artist?” Elijah repeated with a slight tone of surprise. He wasn’t sure how his brother came to know this.
“Yes, brother. I’ve done my research,” Klaus answered back simply.
“Oh,” you began, a bit take off guard by his knowledge of you. “Well I’ve tried my hand at painting every now and again, but Benedict is the true artist of the family. It’s him you’d be wanting to speak with about it.”
“Miss Ledger I don’t recall ever seeing you on the dance floor,” Kol spoke up next. “You must allow me to lead you sometime. I am, after all, the best dancer in the family.”
“Perhaps the best male dancer,” Rebekah spoke up, seemingly appearing beside him. “Both of you, stop overwhelming the poor girl.”
“Oh, I really don’t mind, Lady Mikaelson.”
“Rebekah, please,” she almost scoffed. “Titles make me feel much too old.”
“I couldn’t possibly-”
“I insist,” she interrupted. “In any case, we are all most comfortable being called by our given names. When one hears the name ‘Mikaelson’ being thrown from across the ballroom we never know for who it is intended for.”
“Very well, Rebekah. Then you all must call me Y/n. Especially here in the country, away from the rules of London society.”
“Lord Mikaelson,” Violet could be heard from behind, approaching the small group in the parlor.
“Again, Elijah really is fine,” he corrected again with a chuckle.
“Elijah,” she repeated, a warm smile on her face. “You really must allow Y/n to take you on a tour of the grounds. I hear you’re quite the reader and my late husband, Edmund, had quite the collection in his library.”
“But aunt Violet,” you started before Elijah could give an answer. “I told the kitchen staff that I would assist in serving the tea.”
Violet waved you off. “I shall send down Eloise to help them. You go on and show Elijah your uncle’s library upstairs.”
“I would love to see it,” Elijah added, urging you with his smile.
“Very well,” you nodded. Elijah help out his arm, motioning for you to go first, following close behind as you led him up to the Bridgerton’s library.
“Might they be needing a chaperone, Lady Bridgerton?” Rebekah asked her with a sly grin, catching onto Violet’s schemes.
“I’m not sure as to who you are referring,” she replied with an innocent shrug, turning back to return to the rest of her family.

Taste of bitter sweetness
Pairing : Childe x FEM! reader
Tumblr media
Synopsis: Your lover, Childe who became distant and cold ever since he had come back from a long mission. But then you find out that he had been acquainted with Lumine.
TW : angst, no comfort, Childe cheats, lack of communication, sad ending, mentions of Lumine, rush ending (sorry).
You were a very lucky woman to have Childe.
Your love was like a puzzle — a balance between moments of affection and the understanding that danger could strike to your relationship any time.
You had grown used to the frequent disappearances and the haunting fear that accompanied each mission Childe embarked upon.
But despite the dangers that surrounded him as a member of the Fatui and a fearsome Harbinger, your love had blossomed against all odds.
Childe was good at his job, and also in loving you. He was the man of your dreams. He treats you regularly to romantic dates, whether it be dinner in a restaurant, star gazing, or even for long night walks.
And although his missions usually last for a long time. He never failed to find ways to compensate for the time he couldn't spend with you.
One day...
Childe returned home from a dangerous mission. You eagerly awaited his arrival, longing to be in his embrace once again. But when Childe entered through the door of your shared home, something was different...
His usual warmth and affection seemed to have disappeared, replaced by an icy demeanor that pierced your heart.
"Ajax, you're home. How was the mission?" He gave you a nod and hummed. "You don't seem well, everything alright?"
Your words fell into deaf ears and he remained silent, avoiding your gaze and just ending the conversation with "I'm tired" when you tried to pry.
'He must be tired from his mission. I should give him space' you thought
But days turned into weeks, and the tension between you and Childe continued to get on edge.
You couldn't understand what could have caused this sudden change in Childe's behavior. What happened to the Childe you loved? The sweet and caring Childe.
Small talks, here and there. It felt like you were now strangers living under the same roof. He turns his back on you in bed, even refusing to touch you. Pushing you off everytime you try to give him a kiss.
You tried several times to talk to him, if there was something bothering him, you wanted to be there to support him.
You felt the haunt of sadness lingering down upon you, even crying yourself to sleep and hoping that everything will be okay when you wake up. Nothing changed, except for the house that started to feel cold and dark.
A tear fell of your eye as you stare at the wedding ring in your finger.
You decided to pay a visit to Childe's family, knowing it had been quite some time since both you and Childe last went to their house for dinner. The experience felt as though it had happened just yesterday.
Childe's family was surprised to see you but warmly welcomed you inside. Teucer and Tonia, beaming with joy, eagerly ran towards you to give you hugs.
Childe's mother inquired about the sudden visit, asking if Ajax had been treating you well. You hesitated for a moment, reflecting on the situation between you both. Eventually, you responded with a simple lie, stating that all was well.
Before Childe's mother could continue with her next statement, Teucer interrupted and dragged you away, insisting on playing with you.
"Sister, when will you and brother have dinner with us again?" Tonia inquired, while Ajax went to fetch his toys that Childe had given him.
"Your big brother is very busy," you replied, but you reassured her saying you would have dinner with them soon. Tonia said it was alright as she was glad that you were there to play with her and Teucer.
"And then! Mr Cyclops successfully defeated the hilichurls!" Teucer exclaimed, waving around his Mr Cyclops stuffed toy.
"No! It was Big Brother who defeated the hilichurls," Tonia contested, defending her claim against Teucer.
"No! It was Mr Cyclops!!!"
You observed the children's debate on who had defeated the hilichurls, a slight smile forming on your face.
"Big sister! It was Mr Cyclops, right?"
"No, I'm telling you it was big brother!!"
You laughed and intervened, putting an end to their playtime, as it was time for them to go to bed. Teucer and Tonia whined, clearly not wanting to sleep just yet.
Eventually, you managed to tuck them into their beds, reading them a story. Tonia drifted off to sleep, but Teucer remained wide awake.
"The End," you said, placing the book back on the shelf. As you stood up, Teucer grasped your arm.
"Big sister, I remembered something. It wasn't Mr Cyclops who defeated the hilichurls—it was Lumine!" Teucer suddenly rambled on.
"Lumine? Isn't she the legendary hero of Mondstadt?" you asked, curious as to why Teucer had suddenly mentioned this girl.
Teucer nodded and continued, "I read her name in one of big brother's letters—"
"What do you mean?"
"It was a letter we received from big brother four months ago. He talked about meeting Lumine and how powerful they were when they fought each other."
Four months ago... That was around the time when Childe was sent on a mission to Liyue.
He had also sent you a letter back then, but there was no mention of Lumine... Did he consider her irrelevant to share with me?, or... did he not want me to find out? You were overwhelmed by an indescribable feeling, unsure of what to do.
However, you knew yourself that making assumptions without concrete evidence wasn't productive. Perhaps Lumine was merely an acquaintance or someone Childe had crossed paths with during his travels. Furthermore, it doesn't provide an explanation for Childe's recent behavior towards you.
Upon returning home, you wasted no time and approached Childe. "Have you fallen out of love?" you asked straight to the point
Childe was caught off guard by the sudden question. "What are you talking about?" he responded.
"Since you came back, you've been distant and cold, even refusing to give me any explanation. I've spent several nights thinking what could've gone wrong... But I'm exhausted of waiting for you to talk, please, Childe, tell me the truth."
"I have developed feelings for Lumine." Regret filled his voice as he added, "Im sorry... I wasn't sure if I was in my right mind."
Heavy silence hung in the air. Emotions ran high as you processed his confession, feeling a mix of hurt, betrayal, and confusion. It was a difficult moment, but you knew everything was over.
Taking a deep breath, you mustered the strength to respond. "I see. Then we both know this relationship is gone for good" Your voice trembled slightly.
Childe's face showed remorse and regret as he reached out to touch your arm gently. "I never meant to hurt you," he murmured softly. "I'll respect your decision."
Tears welling up in your eyes. "I'll be sure to have all my belongings packed tomorrow morning." you say before walking to your room.
In the morning all of your belongings were gone. It was as if you had disappeared into thin air, leaving without a trace or any indication of where you might have gone.

♡ The little things ♡
Tumblr media
Summary: Matt has always been pressured to live up to his father and everything that he expects him to be. Y/n has always been very quiet and has been pressured by her whole family to step out of her comfort zone and live her life free from her worries. What will happen when they unexpectedly run into each other at a random ice cream shop?
(Warnings: Toxic family members (Nothing happens though dw it’s only mentioned)
Pt.2
(Matt’s POV)
“You want me to leave?! Fine then, I’m done dealing with this shit.”
I shout out across the house before slamming the front door behind me.
This is the third fight we've had this week.
Ever since my dad found out I've been ditching classes he's been on my ass about everything.
So what? I skip a couple of art classes. It's not like it actually matters.
The thing is my dad is a stern man. Ever since I was a child he told me that I needed to learn how to be a real man.
So that means I shouldn't ever talk about how I feel. I should just suppress my emotions, so I do that.
The only downside is that my emotions come back up in bursts of anger that I can't control.
It's not like I want to be this way, it's the way I've been wired since I could remember.
But the truth is I’m scared.
I’m scared that I’m never going to escape these emotions.
Everyone is going to forever know me as the miserable grump, Matt Sturniolo.
I wish I could change it around but nobody gives me the chance.
Maybe… when the opportunity arises I might have a chance, but I know that's not true.
As I start to spiral into worse thoughts, a hot pink neon sign in the shape of an ice cream cone catches my attention.
I find myself squinting my eyes as I try to make out the letters.
“Gelato Galore”
No way they’re being serious…
GELATO GALORE?
That's ridiculous but I might as well try it, all I want is to be alone and what better place to be alone than an ice cream shop during winter?
I step through the door and I’m instantly overwhelmed by the bright colours, I feel like I’m drowning in an ocean of pink.
It’s everywhere I look!
As my eyes dart around they land on the only person in the shop besides the workers.
It’s a random girl and she seems upset, I feel like I know her from somewhere but I can’t place it.
The way she looks is something you could only describe as a depressing portrait made by a struggling artist, her hair falling in front of her face as tears roll down her cheeks.
The redness on her nose matching the small cherry on top of her sundae that she seems to be refusing to eat by the way she pushes it aside.
I feel a strong urge to check up on her but I don’t know if I should. I’ve never been good at helping people in need.
I sigh as I walk up to the counter. Whatever she's going through is none of my business.
~~~~
(Y/ns POV)
I let out a couple of sad sniffles as I push the little maraschino cherry that's on top of my ice cream to the side.
He was supposed to be here fifteen minutes ago…
I keep telling myself that he must be stuck in traffic or maybe he's just running late and I'm overthinking it all.
I've been repeating all the different scenarios in my head and reasons why he could be late.
My nails impatiently tap against the pink plastic spoon they gave me, I feel as though I’ve been here for hours when in reality it has only been around twenty minutes.
Why can’t he just call me or even text me if he’s running late?
That's when I see my phone light up on the table. I quickly pick it up and I'm met with his contact name.
As I read the message he sent me I could physically feel my heart drop, all of the hope I had was crushed within a second
“I can't make it.”
What the fuck? No sorry? No explanation? Nothing.
I can't believe he could treat me with such disrespect.
I feel like such an idiot…
I sigh in defeat, I place my phone down on the table and dive straight back into my ice cream to distract myself from the current heartbreak I'm feeling.
As I scraped some ice cream from the bottom of the tub, I noticed that the chair in front of me had just pulled back and someone had taken a seat on it.
“Hey, I hope you don't mind me asking, but I couldn't help but notice that something seems to be bothering you. Is everything okay?”
what? I lift my head and I'm met with the sight of a stranger.
But he's not really a stranger, It appears to be Matt Sturniolo.
Although I have seen Matt at school and around the small town that we live in, we don't necessarily run in the same social group.
I sigh as I sit up straight and put down my now-empty ice cream tub.
“I'm fine, really. Don't worry about it.”
I look back down at the table, silently praying that he goes away but he stays.
“So…you a fan of ice cream?”
His small voice catches me off guard, I’ve never heard him talk with such little confidence.
Every inch of my body screams at me to get up and leave. To ignore the boy sat opposite. To run straight back to my room and rot in bed. Run back to my comfort zone.
But I hear my mother's voice ringing throughout my head.
“Come on, Y/n. You're not going to go anywhere in life if you don't put yourself out there. Just try it once, you might be surprised by what could happen.”
So I swallow every anxious feeling screaming at me to leave.
“Yeah. I mean… who isn't?”
A small smile on my lips. I lift my head to look at him, noticing the corners of his lips curled up slightly.
~~~~
I feel a peaceful smile tug on my lips, the scent of cold crisp air filling my senses.
I've always loved the winter. It has a sense of comfort that has always overwhelmed me.
I feel myself dipping deeper and deeper into a state of tranquillity when suddenly the boy next to me speaks up.
“You never answered my question earlier.”
He peers down at me. I sigh.
“What question?”
I know what question he's talking about. I've been asked the same question for years and I've grown to become annoyed at it as I grow older.
“I asked you, why are you always by yourself? Don't you have any friends?”
I tense up and he notices. He stops walking and grabs my wrist, forcing me to stop in the middle of the pavement.
“I'm sorry…”
I watch as his face contorts into a remorseful expression. His eyebrows knitting together.
“I didn't mean to come off as rude. It's just… I've seen you around school and you're always alone, I'm curious.”
I sigh as I look away from him. This is the last thing I need right now. I don't need someone here pointing out stuff that I already know.
It's frustrating. I tug my wrist out of his grip.
“Why don't you… oh, I don't know… mind your business.”
My tone is filled to the brim with annoyance. The way his face falls causes a twinge of guilt to seep into my heart but I push it down.
“Look, I'm just trying to help.”
He speaks through gritted teeth.
That was my last straw.
Without saying another word, I spin around on my heels and walk in the other direction. Completely ignoring the sound of his voice calling out for me.
So much for trying to make a friend.
(A/N: omg this literally took me weeks to finish 😭 I’ve been having an INSANE and extremely frustrating writers block but she’s done 😋 thank you so so much for reading <333)

Me again lol I was wondering if u could do Melissa x reader where reader is autistic and has an autistic meltdown or struggles with change in routine and Melissa helps her (lol sorry I keep requesting fics but your writing is sooooo good I can’t get enough and as always no pressure and look after yourself 🫶)
Hey, thank you for the prompt! I literally just moved 2 weeks ago from one end of the city I live in to the other so I wrote that reader moves since its really relatable to me right now. And feel free to send as many prompts as you want, it’s not a problem😉. Hope you like it!
On another note, I was going to post this tomorrow but kept seeing people like my other fics so I figured I could just post it now lol. Also I can’t believe how many people are liking my fics! Especially ‘her poco sole’ , that was the one I really didn’t know if people were gonna like and it’s the most liked one which surprised me. I’m gonna try to get another one shot to a prompt I got a few hours ago and the next chapter of Worth It. I do have my acting workshop tomorrow and a role on Sunday but I’m gonna try!
Overwhelmed
Warnings: reader has a meltdown
Words: 3.1k
Tumblr media
You’ve always done things a certain way, you planned your day ahead of time and you don’t like changes.
You got diagnosed with Autism when you were 13. Your parents knew nothing about it but were super supportive and researched it to better help you. They also liked to ask you questions about what you prefer to help you even further.
You all realised that routine is very important for you, and if something changed then you would need a bit of time to calm down from your mini freak out. If it was small changes like having to wear a different shirt or a friend wants to meet up at a different store, those you can deal with. But big ones like if a friend you were going to hang out with cancelled last minute or a family member dropped by unexpectedly or you moved.
That last one you didn’t experience a lot thankfully. You only remember moving once, and it was moving out of your parents place and in with a friend you’ve known since first grade. The next time would be when you moved in with Melissa.
You got accepted for a job to be a teacher's aide at Abbott Elementary. You walked in at 7:30 and went to the principal's office to get your badge and to know who the teacher you’ll be helping is. You liked being a teacher's aide instead of the teacher. If there was any big changes to the day then the teacher mostly has to deal with it and you just do what you’re told.
You got introduced to the principal, you didn’t understand how she got the job with how she acts but you don’t ask, it’s your first day after all.
« so the teacher that you’ll be an aide for, her name is Melissa Schemmenti. I’ll bring you to meet her now, she’s in the break room. » Ava said and you nodded your head. You followed her there and walked in the room and all the teachers there looked up and looked at you and you blushed a bit. You got nervous when you felt put in the spotlight with a bunch of people you don’t know. « Hey Melissa, your new aide is here. ». She told someone and when Ava moved out of the way your breath caught in your throat. A pair or beautiful green eyes were on you and they belonged to the most beautiful woman you’ve ever met. And then it hit you, she’s the teacher you’ll be helping. You’re either really lucky or really fucked. You then remember that you should introduce yourself.
« Hi, my name is y/n y/l/n. You must be Melissa Schemmenti. » you tell her and she nods then looks at Ava.
« She better be better than the last one Coleman. » she says and you look confused. She already had an aide that she didn’t like?
« I don’t know, I didn’t pick her, the school board did. » Ava says then leaves. And you just stand there not knowing what to do until one of the teachers stands up to greet you.
« Hi y/n it’s nice to meet you, my name is Janine Teagues. I’m a second grade teacher. » she says and is practically bouncing in your face and you lean back a bit, a bit surprised by her energy and enthusiasm.
« Hi. » is all you say, you never really know what to say to someone new.
« Alright kid, follow me, I’ll bring you to the classroom. » Melissa says as she gets up and you nod as you follow her out of the break room.
You stare at her little bit, you don’t know what to think of her yet other than she’s stunning and you oddly feel safe around her. Which is different, it takes you a few times of getting to know someone before you even feel comfortable. But it seems this woman has the power to make herself go from being a complete stranger to all the way to feeling safe around her.
« You’re really quiet. » she says to you as she bends down a bit to unlock her door with her key around her neck.
« Sorry, just nervous. » You tell her and she motions for you to go into the room.
« I didn’t say it was a bad thing, definitely a nice change from the last one. » she says and you want to be better than the last one so you can’t help but ask her.
« What did the last one do that you didn’t like? Just so I don’t repeat it. » You tell her and she looks at you curiously.
« She disrupted the class more that the students did. She made it worse more than she helped. » she simply said and leaned against her desk and folded her arms. And that’s when you get a look at what she’s wearing. Black leggings with a pink top and black leather jacket. Oh. You always found a girl who wears a leather jacket hot. « Do I scare you? » she says as you haven’t said anything.
« I don’t know you yet. I’m just nervous meeting new people and never know what to say. I’m autistic so I’m not as good with social interactions as other people. » You tell her and she nods.
« Well this is the classroom. I have a split class. » she says as she takes a seat on her desk and puts her hands together on her lap. « I have 20 second graders and 10 third graders. »
« Oh fuck. » you say and she laughs.
« That was my reaction too. Do you have any questions? »
« Um » you say and think about it. « What will you be needing me to do? »
« Just stuff to help really. Like photocopy papers, hand out tests, help them with some class work. Might need you to sometimes teach the third graders a quick lesson in the back of the classroom. » she says and you nod. This sounds like it’ll be good, you think. « any other questions? » she asks.
« Just mostly wondering how you’ve been doing this mostly by yourself. You must be a hell of a teacher to have 30 students in your class. » You tell her and she smiles.
« It was hard at first I’ll admit. I even punched the head of a cardboard samurai right off before I asked for an aide. » she says and you laugh.
The two of you talk for a bit before students start arriving. Melissa has you helping the third graders with some work while she teaches currency to the second graders. She gets you to grade some tests for most of the morning then has you help bring them to the cafeteria at lunch.
« You were a great help today so far, keep up the great work. » she says with a smile and you beam.
A month goes by with you helping Melissa and she’s less stressed now that she has an aide that’s helpful and you’ve settled in nicely with the class and some of the teachers. Until you get home from work one day and your friend tells you that her work transferred her to another city and she’s moving in a month and your smile falls. You can’t afford the rent by yourself, that means moving.
The next day at school, Melissa can tell something is bothering you since you seem distracted and in your head a lot. During her prep period, she asks you about it.
« Hey, what’s going on with you? You seem distracted this morning. » she asks you and you look up at her.
« I’m sorry, just a lot on my mind. » you tell her.
« You wanna talk about it? » she asks and you shake your head, you don’t really want to put it on her.
« You sure? »
You sigh and put your chin on your hands. « Just found out last night that I have a month to find a new place and move. And I looked a bit last night and there’s nothing I can afford by myself and very few people are looking for roommates. » you tell her and she doesn’t say anything. « Sorry, I didn’t want to bother you with my problems. » you tell her and she shakes her head.
« I offered remember. And plus I was actually going to start looking for a roommate. » she says and you look at her. « I have a spare room I’m not using and wouldn’t mind some extra cash. » you look at her confused, wondering if she’s saying what you think she is. « I guess what I’m saying is , if you need a place, you can move in with me. »
And that’s how you got here. The day you’re moving in with Melissa. And you’ve been freaking out about it for a week, your friend has been trying to help you pack and comfort you the best she can. You move your things into her place all day, you don’t have a lot of time to think about it until you’re standing in your new room, and it hits you all at once. Everything changed, different room, different house, different roommate, different end of the city. It all changed and you crumble to the ground and bring your legs to your chest and hug your legs and start rocking to comfort yourself.
« Hey y/n I made dinner and was wondering if… » Melissa comes by your room and sees you. « Y/n? You ok? »
You don’t say anything, you feel like you can’t talk right now, it’s all too much. You end up shaking your head and she comes over and sits on the ground next to you. She doesn’t say anything, she just wraps her arms around you and brings you in for a hug. And that’s when you break and start crying and Melissa rubs your back in a circular motion. The repetitive movement and the physical contact of someone you know soothes you. After a minute you pull back and wipe your tears off. And she just sits next to you for a few minutes, letting you calm down « Thank you. » you tell her when you feel like you can talk again.
« Not a problem. I know it can get overwhelming. But I can help you settle in so it’s not so scary. You like knowing about things right? » she asks and you nod. « Ok, well today I can show you around the house so you know where things are. And then tomorrow I can show you where I shop and you can decide if you like it or not. Then I can show you all the best places to get a bite to eat around here and anything else you want to know. » she offers.
« You’d do that for me? » you ask and she nods. « Why? »
She shrugs. « Because you’re a good person who just needs a bit of help. » she says and you smile at her.
« You know at first, I was a bit scared of you. » You tell her and she laughs.
« I knew it! » she says with a smile.
« But after getting to know you, and seeing how you are with the students, I realised how much of a softie you are. » You tell her and she glares at you.
« Don’t go telling anyone that! » she tells you sternly. And you put your hands up in surrender.
« Don’t worry I won’t, I know you got a reputation to keep. » You joke with her. « was there something you needed btw? » You ask her, remembering she was asking you something before she saw you on the floor.
« Just that I made dinner and wanted to know if you wanted something. I always make a lot. » she says and you beam. You’ve heard great things about her cooking but haven’t had any yet.
Turns out what they say about her cooking didn’t live up to how great she actually was. It was better than you thought. She did give you a tour of the house after supper and you felt a little better. You ended up watching tv with her and she stayed right beside you so that your arms are touching. She knows that close proximity with someone you know helps you calm down and process things.
For the next week you barely say anything. You’re more quiet than normal and you hide in your own head, in your own little fantasy world that you have complete control of.
Melissa has no idea what’s going on with you, and that’s when she starts actually looking up autism and how it affects the person and how they act and how to help them. She sees that if they’re dealing with a lot of big changes, they get overwhelmed and they either repress it and pull away from people or have a meltdown, it also says that they can repress it then have a meltdown. And that’s exactly what happens with you. Melissa was prepared in case it happened, it’s just how it happened and what you end up doing after, that shocked her.
You came home after going grocery shopping and slammed the front door. Melissa was dusting her table with all her pictures when you came in.
« You alright there sunshine? » Melissa joked and you glared at her. Melissa came from an Italian family, so glares didn’t even faze her. She went and leaned on the side of the couch and crossed her arms.
« I’m fine, just they didn’t have some things I wanted so I just walked out. » You said, trying to take your jacket off but it got stuck when trying to take your arms out and you let out a huff.
« Need help? » she asks with a raised eyebrow.
« No. » you snap and continue to struggle. « Ugh why is nothing going right! » Melissa walks over to you and pulls at the arm of the jacket and you’re able to take it off. You slam your jacket on the ground « stupid jacket! Stupid grocery store! » You half scream out.
« Hey it’s alright » she tells you and puts a hand on your shoulder trying to comfort you.
You gasp and turn to her with a glare before shrugging her hand off. « Don’t touch me. » you snap at her then try to calm yourself down. Melissa tries again, knowing that physical contact helps you and read that doing things that helps that autistic person calm down helps during a meltdown. « I said don’t touch me! » you tell her and back up to get away. You end up backing into a wall and you feel like everything is too much and you grab your hair and start freaking out.
« Y/n it’s alright » she says and you barely hear her. She wraps her arms around you from behind you and you scream at her to let you go and try to push her off but she hangs on. And then you start crying and fall to the ground and she follows you, still hugging you. You put one of your hands on her hand and lean into her. « it’s ok y/n, you’re ok. » she says, still hugging you from behind. She rests her chin on your shoulder and you relax more into her. After about a minute you sit up a bit and she removes her head from you. You turn around and in a wave of confidence, you lean in and kiss her.
She kisses you back and she feels you smile. You pull back and look into her eyes. « R u ok y/n? » she asks you after it seems you’ve calmed down.
« I think mostly, it’s still a bit hard for me, I’m still processing everything. » You tell her and she gets an idea. She helps you back and tells you to stay there for a second. She goes over and turns on her Bluetooth speaker and it connects to her phone. She opens her Spotify and clicks on a song. The song starts playing through the speaker and you instantly recognize the song, it’s the Macarena.
« Come on I’m sure you know the moves. » she tells you when you raise your eyebrows at her. She pulls you away from the wall and goes behind you and moves your arms to the music with the moves. You start laughing at her goofiness but eventually you start getting into it and she lets your arms go and does the moves with you. At the end of the song, your both laughing and having a great time, then the next starts playing and it’s ‘can you feel the love tonight’ from the lion king. Melissa just goes with it and holds out a hand for you to take. « May I have this dance? » she asks you and you giggle and you take her hand.
She brings you close to her and puts one hand on your shoulder and moves her hand in yours to the proper position and you put your hand on her waist. She starts doing the waltz with you and you’re surprised. She ends up being a really good dancer.
« You seem surprised. » she tells you.
« I am, I’m wondering if there’s something you can’t do. » you tell her and she laughs. « I’m being serious, you’re an amazing teacher, your meals taste like heaven, you can waltz really well. I wouldn’t be surprised if you knew a second language. » you tell her as a joke but looks at you with a smile.
« Conosco Italian. » she says and you look at her. « That means I know Italian. »
« I was actually joking but at this point I’m not surprised. » You tell her and she giggles. The song ends but both of you don’t pull away. « thank you btw. You’ve helped me so much. » You tell her with a smile and she smiles back at you.
« of course mia carina. » she tells you.
« Ok now you’re just showing off. » You joke and she laughs. Then she puts a hand around your neck and kisses you and you kiss her back. It’ll take time but Melissa is willing to help you with all the changes and to make her house feel like home to you.

What’s st.Jordi day? Is it similar to Valentine’s Day in the US?
Tumblr media
oh anon, it's so much more! it's el dia més bonic de l'any (the most beautiful day of the year!) it's the celebration of sant jordi (saint george) who is the patron saint of catalunya and is held on 23 april every year. i wrote in an earlier post that while we are not particularly religious people, celebrating religious traditions and honouring the saints are a big part of spanish culture. sant jordi is especially very important to barcelona and catalunya, so the day is celebration of love but it's also a celebration of catalan culture and why you see so many senyera decorations (catalan flag) and roses everywhere. barça changed its logo (see below) for today too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the symbols of sant jordi are the rose, the book, and the dragon. if you know the legend of sant jordi slaying the dragon, then that's where that reference comes from. it's also why alexia putellas, lucy bronze and other barça players shared the image of the famous gaudí house, casa batlló.
gaudí is like the most famous architect in spain and he designed the sagrada familia cathedral and so many places in bcn. he also designed this house as an homage to sant jordi and it kinda looks like dragon scales from the outside. that is why they decorate it with roses every year and there are actually book stalls nearby too. if you visit barcelona, this is a must visit location. it's beautiful and unique and worth the price.
the rose symbol came about during the 15th century in barcelona where they held a lover's fair, and it became a tradition for men to give women a rose on this day, which is why people compare it to valentine's day. later on the 1920s barcelona created a book festival and held it on 23 april (supposedly the death date of cervantes and shakespeare). then it became a tradition for men to give the women they love a rose and women to give men a book (this includes family members too!) now we don't stick to these strict gender norms anymore, so most people get both roses and books. ☺️
Tumblr media Tumblr media
that's the reason why aitana re-released an updated version of her memoir and held a signing today.
so i think this day holds a lot more importance in spain than maybe valentine's day in america (for example i don't think you all celebrate saint valentine in the same way in the us.) btw, we also celebrate valentine's day (el día de san valentín) in spain just like they do in many places around the world on 14 feb, but it's not that big a deal. like halloween it feels like something we took from america and is an excuse to have a party or go have a nice dinner 🤷‍♀️

nina cried power |tsu'tey x reader|
part two of this
a/n: please forgive me lovelies :) i can't help but crave the chaos, currently working on the final part!
warnings: angst, cliff hangers, one singular cuss word
vocab ‘Itan: son - sa'nok: mother - syvue: food - tsngan: meat - tute: female - oel ngati kameie: i see you
Tumblr media
Days. Weeks. Months.
You no longer kept count, why should you when your heart has stopped beating the moment her hand touched his? Why should you be held responsible for keeping score of the days that had passed? Why was your heart the one to be consistently broken over Tsu’tey and Sylwanin?
You knew the blame you placed on him was not fair. It was not called for, yet that didn’t stop the anguish from rising in your chest every time you were a witness to their growing love. No matter how far you distanced yourself from the clan, there was always talk of their future Olo’eytukan and Tsahik.
Everyone was waiting for the day the two of them were officially mated, the day the clan would welcome the new leaders. But you knew in your heart, you would run away before you ever had to see it come true.
It was no surprise that you had changed dramatically since that night. You traded your bright beaded tops for dull feathered ones instead. No longer wishing to finally catch the eye of your oldest friend.
But it seemed no matter how hard you tried to hide away, Tsu’tey always noticed you. He was no fool. He knew how hurt you had been, the look on your face so raw and full of anguish. No one could have missed you running away towards the woods.
He himself would have been surprised if he hadn’t been told mere minutes before the announcements. It was a reminder that he could never fully choose his future. No part of him had ever craved to mate with Sylwanin, but every fiber of him ached to be with you. You who had stuck by his side through everything, through the fights with his family, his flight of passage, and every other challenging moment. You were a constant, you were his.
————————————————————
“Ah, Y/N, he is staring at you again. You must put him out of his misery,” Ninat giggled, lowly gesturing to the group of warriors across the way.
Eyes quickly darting upwards, your heart sank as you met the eyes of Orew. The slightest glimmer of hope, wishing your eyes met his.
“Ninat! Do not spread rumors you baby! I know nothing of this misery you speak of! Orew is nothing but a skawang, a foolish boy,” you hissed, face heating as she just laughed harder at you.
Bearing your teeth at your friend, you turned your attention towards the necklace you were making. Smiling downwards at the colorful gems you had spent weeks collecting in the forest. So absorbed in your work, you didn’t hear the footfalls behind you.
“That necklace is going to look beautiful on you,” a deep voice rumbled, spooking you from your inner thoughts.
Quickly looking up, you met the sparkling eyes of Orew. Heart racing in your chest from being snuck up on, a polite smile gently finding home on your face.
“Thank you Orew, it is quite pretty but it’s not for me. It’s for someone very special to me,” you answered sincerely, hoping he would just walk away.
“Well they are very lucky. One could only be so lucky to wear something you’ve crafted for them. I hope to one day be so lucky,” he spoke confidently, before sending you a striking smile and heading back towards his friends.
The moment his back was turned, Ninat tightly grabbed your arm and practically screamed, “He is so into you!”
Rolling her eyes as you pushed her away, you were oblivious to the tall na’vi watching you closely from the treeline.
—-------------------------------
One thing about the clan was that the minute a rumor was whispered, it spread like wildfire throughout the entire village. Whether it was true or not hardly mattered, as long as the members of the clan had something to keep their days interesting.
So it was no surprise to you when a rumor that Sylwanin was choosing to mate with Ayawon started to make its way through the clan. It wasn’t the first rumor of its likeness to be passed around. From the moment she came of age, every elder sa’nok hoping the name of their ‘itan would stick. The Olo’eytukans family always fell unlucky to the gossiping of small minded na’vi. When you heard this rumor you couldn’t help the hollow laugh that escaped your throat. The harshness of it surprising even yourself.
Deep down, you and everyone else knew that Sylwanin would never go against her fathers orders. She was promised to Tsu’tey and in order to be the next Tsahik, she would have to make tsaheylu with him. Why would she give up a lifetime of training for a mediocre warrior? When she had the finest warrior the clan had to offer and the future Olo’eytukan? She was no fool and knew the importance of the future of the clan.
Pushing the rumor out of your mind, you continued on with your day. Spending much of the morning helping forage for herbs with the healers before heading back to the village for syvue. As you walked towards the large fire, whispers flowed throughout the clan already gathered. Grabbing a bowl of tsngan, you found a quiet spot to enjoy your meal. The comfort of the moment ruined when a voice bellowed, “YOU DID WHAT?”
Looking up from your bowl, your eyes widened at the scene unfolding in front of you. There before you stood Sylwanin. Hand in Hand with Ayawon, but further than that, they stood with their queues connected as the final sign of mating. Beyond her stood a furious Eytukan, glaring at his eldest daughter.
Gasps rippled throughout the village as they watched with rapt attention. Rumors were one thing, but you could barely comprehend what was happening.
“Ayawon and I have mated before Eywa. It is done,” Sylwanin spoke fiercely, never breaking eye contact with her father.
“If you chose this Sylwanin, you can and will not be Tsahik,” Mo’at rushed out quickly, almost as if hoping her daughter would change her mind.
“I have made up my mind. I choose him as my mate,” she replied strongly, turning to smile lovingly at her new mate.
“Then that is how it should be. Sylwanin will no longer lead our clan as Tsahik. She has chosen,” Eytukan declared loudly, “Tsu’tey may choose my youngest Neytiri as his promised and keep his place as future Olo’eytukan or pick a mate of his choice and continue down his path as a warrior. Like Sylwanin, the choice is his.”
Your heart couldn’t take the implications of what just happened and you felt as though you would faint on the spot. Voices erupted from throughout the crowd as the other tute na’vi weighed the newest addition to the mating pool. Unable to stop yourself, your eyes scanned the crowd until they met the familiar yellow ones you adored. Tentatively Tsu’tey raised a hand in a small wave. To anyone else it was insignificant, miniscule in the grand scheme of things. But to you, it was a new beginning.
It was Tsu’tey telling you Oel ngati kameie.
You raised your hand to wave back and was on the verge of a genuine smile for the first time in months, when the ground shook and all hell broke loose.

[12:32am]
a/n; just a cute platonic fic before i wonder for another hour if i decide to write something else or not. im reading through the u20 v bllk arc (i think im like halfway through) im like, i could write some good shit with this rq. someone probably wrote something like already potentially but it's rotting my brain rn so. this is totally ooc for rin probably im so sorry
also small bachira mom cameo slay
[platonic] [younger sibling! reader]
Tumblr media
your brothers.. are cool.
rin and sae, your big older brothers who loved playing soccer. you watched them play everyday and they always looked like superheroes in your young eyes.
you grow up alongside them, just a year or two younger as you try to find what you want to do. do you want to win with them? do you want to live a peaceful life?
what do you want to do?
you don't know. you're lost without the guidance you wanted. you've been watching your brothers all this time that you lost track of yourself.
you come to realize that what rin talks about.. rings true for you as well.
that sae is just so far away from you both. but you feel far from rin too.
when did that happen?
you can only watch as your brothers fight in a colosseum called soccer where everyone in the audience is thirsty for a fight. where the new recruits meet the pro gladiators and then the pros crush them under their experienced swords and chains.
but this was different. you could feel it in the intense air. you were not even close in terms of seating to see your brothers. even with the seat you were offered from a really nice lady, you could barely see them. but you know that chilling air anywhere.
it felt like you were back in that school field with your brothers again. when he came back home from spain.
everything cracked.
"get lost rin. you're not necessary in my life anymore."
you watched as your brothers broke everything you believed in. how you three would stay together, how you would be there to cheer them on every match you could, how you would happy with them by your side.
your parents weren't even here to see the destruction they caused. the absolute pain they unintentionally inflicted on the three itoshi siblings. you came here on a whim, you wish you could say.
if you were really being honest, you really missed them. sae was always busy, and rin was in blue lock the whole time. so that left you alone.
"are you here with your family, dear? where are they?" that nice woman from before sits beside you, worried that you're all alone in this stadium.
"n-no. i'm alone." you're flustered by the sudden attention from her. "i'm here to.." you paused for a moment, "..to support my brothers."
"oh! that's so sweet! i'm supporting my own son! your brothers must be really good as well."
when was the last time you felt warm like this?
from just a simple talk with a lovely mother has you boiling with pain and longing.
why couldn't you feel this warmth with your family?
"yeah." you nodded curtly.
Tumblr media
when the timer ticks down, you watch with dull eyes as rin and sae fight on the field again. you almost thought they would get cards for how aggressive this was. and before you know it.
blue lock wins.
and you don't know how to feel.
you saw the monster that rin was, tearing every person apart against their strongest assets. and you saw the monster that sae was, constantly calculating his way to win optimally.
today was the day that rin finally beat him.
and today was the day soccer changed japan.
the two week rest was now given to the blue lock members, and you haven't seen much of rin. that still hurt.
but you did catch him one day.
"rin.." you encounter him on a late night, hearing a set of heavy footsteps before you went to bed. "rin." you don't address him as your brother anymore. you wonder when you started making that habit.
"what?"
"you did well." you don't know what to say when you finally manage to have a chance at a proper talk with at least one of your brothers. he scoffs at your weak voice but you continue, "i saw everything. i attended the match."
"then you should know that i didn't do enough."
"i don't think like you and sae, i don't know as much as you two do-"
"i'm still far away from him now." you stay silent as he trembles with frustration and anger. "i'm gonna beat him and that stupid isagi.. "
your mouth is dry with confusion. you can't find it in you to talk to him like you once did as a kid. but you manage, "does this mean i'm gonna be alone again?"
it's his turn to go silent. his back faces you while he stares at his bedroom door.
"how long am i gonna be alone again?" you ask.
"until i beat our good for nothing shitty brother and that idiot isagi."
".. okay." you reach to open your bedroom door, "when you see sae again, tell him i said hi. i miss seeing you and sae." you confess.
"i don't understand how you miss him."
"the same way i miss you." you open your door, looking out at your bland bedroom. not a single trophy seen, not a single sign of any sports prowess, nothing that defined you. "you're both too far away from me. and i can't catch up." you sigh. "i'm just the talentless third kid after all."
"with that attitude, you deserve it." he opens his bedroom door and it's the complete opposite of yours. littered with awards and trophies and a single photo frame of the last time you've seen rin and sae happy.
"i know."

Will and his feelings for Katherine
In this TED talk, I will argue that Will guessed or at least suspected that Katherine was his sister from the moment he met her, and hence there were no romantic feelings from his side.
[Lots of spoilers]
Yes, maybe it's obvious for everyone, but I still find it interesting to inspect how the narrative structure was keeping us intentionally in the dark both because of different POVs and because of the parts of the backstory that we get only way afterward.
The idea that there were any romantic feelings comes from two sources, Katherine's POV and Violet's. But when we look at the story from Will's perspective the meaning of his actions changes.
Let's start from the beginning.
Assumption 1: Some vague suspicions that he had siblings (backstory in Book 2, Elizabeth's POV)
Will was around 6-7 years old when Elizabeth was born. At that age, he would at least remember something, even if his mother never talked about the baby, even if she said that the child died or claimed that it never happened. Some memories, some half-forgotten moments must have stayed with him.
Tumblr media
He knew for sure that his mother had a platitude of secrets, that she was afraid of something, and that she acted cautiously.
Assumption 2: Almost sure that he has/had sisters after his mother's death (Book 1, very close to the end, Will's POV )
Will is around 16, his mother is dying, covered in blood, murdered by unknown people. And she is talking nonsense. She is afraid of Will, so she attacks him, and she begs him not to hurt her girls.
Tumblr media
Will was never stupid. And he had plenty of time to think about his mother's last words (and actions). And even though he wants to believe that she just didn't understand who he was, and what was going on, he is still our clever Will, and it's not that unbelievable, to at least suspect, that his mother really did have other children (girls), that she had to give up (and maybe that, somehow connected to her death).
He doesn't know if the girls are alive or where they are, but at that point, he must be almost sure that his mother had daughters.
Fact 1: Will knows both how his mother looks (obviously) and how Lady looks (Will's POV, Chapter 1)
Will is probably the only person alive, other than Devon and Sandy, who knows how Lady looks, and seeing her in the mirror he immediately recognizes that she has similarities to his late mother.
Tumblr media
Conclusion 1: When he saw Katherine for the first time he, for sure, noticed that she looked very similar to his mother and to Lady.
Once again, Will is smart, and seeing Katherin for the first time, he understands that she must be his sister.
He tries to find out if she has any other family members, asking her about her cousins.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When she reaches to his neck, he instinctively pulls away. The same way he wanted to pull away from Lady in the mirror. Because in both instances he thinks about his mother.
And at the end of their first meeting, he says that he was wrong, and he won't do whatever he planned.
Fact 2: When Katherine kisses him, Will pulls back
Will never initiate or encourage any intimacy. Probably because he didn't feel that way about her, but also because she is his sister.
Tumblr media
She kissed him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He tried to warn her and protect her because he promised his mom.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Violet is the one who talks about love and kisses, while Will wants to say “It’s not what you think” because it's not. And it's not what we, readers, think because at that point Will (who's still not stupid) very much suspects that he is either Dark King's descendant or Dark King Reborn.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So my conclusion is that the feelings he has for Katherine are mixed but there is very little indication that he felt anything romantic or passionate toward her.
The whole point of this long post is an attempt to prove that Pacat is playing with our minds via POVs, vague dialogs, and a backstory that is revealed way too late. And if we can't trust the story in these small details, we also can't trust it in much bigger points such as Dark vs Light Sides, the role of the Collar, and the story of The Betrayer.

part 1, part 3, part 4, part 5
1,4k words
How many days has it been? Neteyam lost count already. Pulling the string of his bow, he made a perfect kill and he can hear his people hoorah for him. Riding to his ikran again, he came back to where his family are
“Back so soon? I thought you’ll be coming home late”
Kiri said as soon she saw her brother enter their hut but she didn’t hear a single reply from him. She shrug and place down the leafs they’ll be using to eat. Soon after all of their family members have gathered, in the past it would be full of laughters and jokes but tonight it’s pretty dull
“I’m done” Neteyam declared and quickly got up, grabbing his things and took big steps towards the exit of their hut
“Neteyam, you shouldn’t ever forget that you will be the Olo’eyktan” Jake said in a stern voice and Neteyam grip the strap of his bag, tight.
“Yes sir”
That’s what he only replied before calling his ikran and ride it, he arrived immediately to the lab. As he got inside, he saw Spider sleeping comfortably on the couch. Norm and Max are nowhere to be found, he just let him self in and grab a mask to help him breathe inside then went to where your body is laying
Your features have change, it grow more mature so as your avatar, Neteyam can only stare at you. Eywa knows how much he just wants to go inside and hold your hand but he can’t. If he goes inside he might destroy something and it will be the cause of delay of your health restoring
He sat across the window that is separating you from him, he can feel all of his strength go away as the darkness consume him but before he can slip to his dreams he uttered something but his eyes are already close that he didn’t notice your finger move
Morning came and Neteyam bid his goodbye to you but promises that he’ll be back, promising he will be telling lots of stories
“I understand your grief son but you must choose your own tsa—“
Jake couldn’t finish his words as Neteyam punch the tree, glaring at his father. Baring his teeth. The oldest Sully couldn’t believe what his father just suggested, he knows how your father have always taken care of you. He was even the one who push Neteyam to confess his feelings to you
“I want Y/N.”
Jake look at his son before motioning Neteyam to sit down, Norm and Max have inform him that if you don’t wake up in 3 months, they’ll be taking you back to earth as the technologies back there will help you
“Son… in three months if Y/N doesn’t wake up..” He look at his son reaction and he can see how his eyes widen
“They will be bringing her home. To earth, to where I came from the technologies back there can help her. If she stays here longer then she’ll die.”
His ears rang, he couldn’t hear the voice of his father anymore. He looked down, his hand to his chest. Neteyam can feel his heart racing, memories of you with him flash before him.
“Hurry up, ‘Teyam!”
You would pull his larger hands as you show him your new found spot, you may be aloof to the others but he will always manage to drag you out of the lab
“You’re hurt..”
Your eyes full of worry as he savor the feeling of your palm against his face, he loves seeing your get worry for him
“I see you, Neteyam”
You said as you lean your head to his chest, his arms wrap around you. You don’t know how happy he is after you said yes to his courtship
“Yam!”
He can feel his tears run down to his cheeks. He can’t lose you. He can’t! You are the light, the warm, the balance of his life!
“Teyam!”
Fist full of mud as he continue to punch the ground, one moment you were cage in to his arm then one moment you are so far to him, he doesn’t want the memories of you together with him to be just a fleeting moment
“NETEYAM! SNAP OUT OF IT! WE NEED TO GO! Y/N IS IN A BAD SHAPE!”
Just by hearing your name, Neteyam move so fast and riding his ikran as fast as he can. When he and Jake arrived he saw the people inside packing, Norm and Max are dragging the bed you’re in to a vehicle he have always seen the sky people ride
“Where… Where are you taking her?!”
Neteyam shouted and ran inside, the people together with Spider is trying to calm him down
“It’s okay bro! She’ll be back! Trust me!”
“No! She’ll stay here! Give her back!”
Neteyam shouted again and before he can lash out, Jake got in time and hold his son back
“What the hell happened?!?!” Jake shouted and Max came back to explain everything
“Y/N woke up but she started having seizure, we manage to calm her down but he heart beat went flat and it took us 5 minutes to get her heartbeat back” Max explain
“Then why are you taking her back?!” Jake ask still holding Neteyam to his arms
“The tools we have here isn’t enough. I’m sorry Jake but we’ll have to take her back.” Max said then his gaze shift to Neteyam
“I will bring her back.” Max promise and immediately ran to the vehicle and the only one who’s left is Norm as he was task to look after your avatar and Dr. Grace avatar
“No! No! Please! Give her back!”
Neteyam breakthrough from his father grasp and went outside but his too late, the vehicle is too fast. He rode his ikran but he can’t catch up, his tears drying on his cheeks, mind blank that he didn’t even sense his falling luckily Jake is there to catch him. You were so close yet so far
“Don’t take her away… please…”
“Pinky promise?”
Neteyam look at you, his eyes full of questions. You are teaching him some sky people do. Thanks to Max you always have something to teach him
“Yeah! That’s what you do when you want to seal a promise!”
You beam and Neteyam look at his hands, he look at you again and raise his pinky finger.
“Be always at my side?”
He ask and he watch you smile sweetly and lock your pinky to his
“Forever”
— 5 months later, 12:51 pm. Earth —
Max knock on the door before entering and as soon he got inside, he saw you standing at the window. He cleared his throat to catch your attention, he have been checking your health ever since you woke up 2 months ago
“How is your day, Y/N?” You smiled and sat down on the bed
“Good, I don’t know why but looking at my diary makes me wonder if the stories you have told me are true”
Max look at the notebook laying on the desk beside the bed, it was filled of your drawings on the pandora forest
“Well.. as soon you regain your health back. If you are really good, we can go back..”
You couldn’t hide your excitement, you hates how the smell of the medicines and the treatment you have been receiving but in order to see with your own eyes, the drawings on your notebook you complied
“Yes, as I really feel I don’t belong here”
You muttered and once again your head ache again making you almost fall off of your bed
“You okay? Don’t push yourself, we have a lot of time”
You reassured Max and sat properly this time, you always hear this strange voice but you don’t know who it belongs to.
“I’m good, just I keep hearing this voice” you replied while shaking your head softly
“What does it say?” Max ask
“I see you…..”
You replied and you can’t help but glance at the notebook, you know you have to get better. You can only have your answers when you go back to the place where you were born
