i love you bear-y much
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
genre: fluff au: non idol au warnings: none word count: 0.4k   pairing: gn!reader x yang jeongin
Your sleep-addled brain barely registers Jeongin’s alarm going off, but your tired body definitely feels the bed shift as he gets up. He tucks the blankets around you, sealing in the warmth, before heading to the bathroom. You fall back into slumber and only wake again when he kisses your forehead in goodbye.
“I’ll see you in a week,” he whispers. “I love you.”
“Love you more.”
Several hours later when you’re awake, you stumble into the kitchen to make coffee. Unlike your husband, you have no business trips to go on, but doing freelance work is no easy feat either. Jeongin’s usual mug is in the drying rack, so you grab it in lieu of combing through the expansive souvenir mug collection in the cabinet for today’s choice of drinkware. As you wait for your coffee to brew, your phone vibrates with an incoming video call. Jeongin’s face, lovely albeit worn, fills the screen.
“Hey,” he says. “I’ve landed, and I’m safe. I’m just waiting for my driver. What are you up to?”
“Coffee,” you answer over the sound of the machine. “And then emails.”
“Did you like the gift I left for you?”
You visualize your bedroom, searching for any object that seems out of place. Then you poke your head out to the living room and find nothing unusual there. “I’d like it better if I knew where it was. Did you hide it somewhere?”
“No. You didn’t pick Mug of the Day yet?”
You hold up his mug, decorated with a watercolor rendition of the Busan skyline. “It’s this one.”
He smiles. “Check the cabinet.”
You open the doors, expecting to rummage through the enormous selection available, but the plush teddy bear makes the search much easier. The mug it sits in is new as well.
“‘I love you bear-y much,’” you read aloud. The cartoon bears hug each other, and a red heart floats above their heads. “This is adorable. I love you bear-y, bear-y much.”
“Love you the bear-y most,” he says, laughing when he notices your slight pout. “Please, just let me win this time. My driver’s here.”
“Okay, fine.” You wave goodbye with the arm of the teddy bear. “Stay safe. Call me when you’ve checked in.”
“I will. See you.”
The call ends, and you pour your freshly brewed coffee into your brand new mug. Some sugar and creamer later, it’s complete. You take it to your office along with your new friend, who now lives on the shelf above your desk. As you reply to emails, you can’t help but feel your coffee tastes even better than usual.

Jeongin spent nearly five minutes searching for his girlfriend when he finds her in one of the side rooms designated for when someone needs to take a break. Her knee is bouncing anxiously, as she bites her lip, and looking as if she's mentally a million miles away.
"I've been looking for you," Jeongin says, letting her know that it's just him. "Is everything okay?"
"I don’t know why I’m even doing this," she replies, avoiding eye contact by looking down at the floor. "I'm not even that good. There are so many other racers that are better than me, faster than me, and more experienced than I am. What am I doing here? I don't deserve to be here."
"I think your full of shit," he tells her sitting next to her. She glares at him, her eyes glossing over. "You deserve to be here.” he continues, taking her hand in his and making her look at him with his free hand. “You've worked your ass off to get where you are today, and I couldn't be prouder of you. Don't let anyone make you feel or think otherwise."
"You know how competitive Formula One can get," she sighs.
"Which is testament to how hard you've worked to get here. It's proof that you deserve to be here just as much, if not more, than the others," he counters. "Now, stop doubting yourself, get in that car, and show them what you're made of. Show them why you deserve to be here."
"What would I do without you?" she asks a faint smile on her lips as she looks at him loving.
"You don't have to worry about that because I'll always be here, supporting you and reminding you of your worth," he smiled, pressing a kiss to her hand.
"I love you," she says pressing a kiss to his lips.
"I love you too," he says and stands up, her hand still in his, and leads her out of the room so she can prepare for her race.
As they walk back towards the main area, Jeongin can't help but feel a surge of pride for his girlfriend. He’s witnessed her dedication and passion for racing firsthand, and he knows that she has what it takes to succeed even further in the competitive world of Formula One racing.

Tumblr media
In theory, working with a western artist seemed as though it was going to be a wonderful idea to help bring more attention to the boys. It had taken some convincing to get JYP on board with the idea but once he was things seemed to be taking off rather well. There was a slight issue with a language barrier but nothing you nor your team weren't able to handle. You'd been flown out on a trip all paid for by the company and you were being put up inside of a grand hotel. Even though you'd told them you would have been perfectly happy paying for it yourself, you were just excited about the opportunity.
When your manager had come to you with the idea you'd practically raced at the chance to do it and begged your company to allow it to happen. You were just short of getting down on your hands and knees to plead for the chance when they just agreed to it, they knew how much you loved the world of Kpop and it couldn't have gone to someone better. The collab was going to be between you and a group you had loved for a few years now, there was no way on this earth you were going to pass that up.
It had been challenging for the first week of working with Chan and Changbin, you were trying to get your jetlag in check as well as making sure you were working in their busy schedule. It'd been hard but worth it in the end when you finally got to speak with them both and express the ideas and wants that you wanted from the collaboration together.
The rest of the boys were all eager to meet you but Chan had wanted to do a small talk with you before you got to meet the rest. It was all about making sure you were going to be able to work well together. All week long it had been as though he was preparing you for what was going to happen when the time came. You knew he was just trying to do what was best and calm himself down but he didn't have to. You worked within a company that had lots of artists, you were used to being around loud people.
"I'm used to having people around me, you don't have to worry about it, Chan...My company is huge." You laughed as he looked at you with a worried glance. It wasn't as if he was worried that you were going to get annoyed with them but he was a little worried it might get too much for you. Or if you didn't get along well with them all. There were so many variables running around inside of his head he couldn't pin one down.
You, Jisung, Chan and Changbin were sitting inside a giant meeting room, the rest of the boys were outside too excited to wait anymore. It was finally time for you to meet them and some were a little more excited than others. The boys knew of Jeongin's crush on you and had been non-stop teasing him for it since they found out that they were going to be working alongside you.
"They can be very loud." Changbin laughed softly, looking at you as you shook your head at them. You could deal with loud, you worked around loud all of the time.
"And annoying," Jisung added as you whined at him, annoying wasn't what you found them to be when you watched them online. In fact, you'd always wondered what it would be like to be around them.
"I work in a company full of loud and annoying people. Please, you guys know what I've been like." You reminded them of all of the nights you'd spent in their studios this week, being a little overly loud and extroverted.
"We're just warning you." Jisung chuckled as you nodded your head, more ready than ever to meet the boys that you were going to be working with for the next few weeks.
"Okay, Binnie...Let them in." Chan instructed as you got up from the chair, watching the door as Felix walked in straight away. It was so surreal to see them all in front of you, your heart began to thump against your chest as you stared at them all. You allowed your eyes to land on your bias a little longer than the rest but you went back to looking at Chan who was now standing with them.
Once they were all inside the room they bowed and did their usual introduction making you smile bigger than you ever had. You never would have thought you'd be able to see the bow in person, you always imagined you'd only see it through videos.
"That's the most incredible thing ever, I never thought I'd see that in person." You admitted as you slowly let your inner fangirl out a little but it didn't seem to bother them, in fact, you could see it visibly relax Minho and Seungmin. They'd been a little worried that they would be put with someone who only wanted to use Kpop as a form of trying to gain attention since it was getting into the mainstream media more.
"As you guys know we'll be working with Yn closely and she wanted to meet you boys already," Chan explained in both English and Korean to them, you knew it was going to be like this. Your Korean wasn't quite up to scratch yet - but you were learning and your company had even hired a translator to go along with you. That way neither Felix nor Chan had to be by your side every time you needed to be with the boys.
"It's nice to meet you all, I can't wait to work with you." You said in Korean, bowing to each of them as you noticed Jeongin and Hyunjin smile brightly at the thought of you speaking Korean. It was something they'd been wondering about since finding out they were going to be working with someone outside of Kpop.
"Yn's Korean isn't as fluent as ours but we'll work hard to make sure she understands us," Chan explained again as you smiled. The last week with the 3Racha boys had been rocky to start with since there was a language barrier but nothing you couldn't handle. Your company had given you a teacher and a translator so you could learn while you were there.
"Let's all sit and talk about how it's going to work." You all took a seat and you smiled listening to Chan closely. You knew how everything was going to go down, you were going to be broken up into teams, a writing team, a dance team and a singing team.
While you were busy listening you hadn't noticed that Jeongin couldn't help but lock his eyes on you, from the moment he knew you were going to be working with them he'd been doing more of his English lessons. Practically begging Felix at the dorms to teach him as much as humanly possible before you got here. He was desperate to learn how to speak with you fluently without having to turn to the boys for some kind of help. He wanted to be able to talk with the one person he'd had a crush on for the longest time.
"You're staring," Hyunjin whispered to the younger member, you were too busy listening to Chan to notice anything else going on around you. Jeongin flushed turning to look at Hyunjin and back to you, you had your eyebrows knitted together as you tried to focus on some of the Korean words that Chan was using. Even noting them down in a little notebook you had in front of you, Jeongin thought it was adorable.
"I can't help it," He shot back at Hyunjin, his eyes drinking in your appearance while he could.
"She'll think you're a stalker." Jeongin rolled his eyes at Hyunjin before turning to look down at the notepad in front of him, it was filled with small phrases he knew how to say in English, as well as small phrases you could say back to him so he could understand. He was good at English but he wasn't exactly fluent enough to be able to hold a long-winded conversation with you without help.
"Groups Innie." Felix nudged the younger boy and he whined a little, turning red as he looked up to notice your eyes were on him. You smiled and he instantly stared down at the notepad, not being able to find the words to say. He'd completely bottled it and messed up his chance to say something to you at that moment.
A sinking feeling dipped inside of you as you realised your bias didn't even want to look at you, had you done something wrong? Maybe you'd not introduced yourself well enough. Your eyes slowly turned to look at Chan who continued with what he was saying.
"The groups will be 3Racha, danceracha, and Vocalracha. Yn is going to make her way through the groups over the following weeks while we get to work." The collab wasn't just going to be a song together, it was going to be a performance at your first award show and it was a big one at that. As a kpop fan, you knew how big the MAMA awards were and you were ecstatic when you'd been asked to perform with the boys on stage to debut the song. Though a little nervous since the choreography was something you struggled with sometimes but you had faith Minho would teach you wonderfully as well as the other boys.
"It'll be a whole performance piece, so we need choreography at the top" Chan continued to go out but you were busy focussing on something else entirely. If Jeongin didn't like working with you how were you going to be able to work closely with one another when it came down to vocal training. Your head began to fill with worried as you looked over at Jeongin who was refusing to look up again, instead his eyes were glued down to the notepad.
Tumblr media
"You're worried?" Chan asked as you stopped outside of a studio, it was the first time you had been worried since coming to work with them all. You'd just mentioned you were a little anxious about being alone with Vocalracha but you didn't tell him the reason. You didn't want to fuck up everything by telling him that your bias was Jeongin and you were scared he hated you.
You'd just been composing lyrics with 3Racha while they tried to come up with a backing track, something you'd been doing for the last week. While Jisung was quick with his lyrics you had been a little slower to come up with your own words to go along with them and now it was time for you to practice your vocals.
"A little..."
"If it's the language thing, I can stay with you?" He suggested but you didn't want that you knew that Chan had something he needed to get on with so you were going to have to suck it up.
"N-No, it's not that. I'm just...I'm too in my head," You smiled trying to convince him that it was all fine. You stared at the door taking in deep breaths as you tried to convince yourself this had been all in your head that morning. There was no way that Jeongin hated you since you hadn't even spoken to one another yet, you were just being overly cynical of yourself.
"Boys?" Chan called out as you walked into the room with them, glancing over at Seungmin who was standing up and greeting you. Your heart seemed to relax a little when you saw him on his own,
"Lovely to meet you Seungmin," You spoke as you shook his hand, eyes glancing around the room to see if Jeongin was out.
"You too, Jeongin is just warming up." He explained as he pointed over at the small adjoining room where Jeongin was warming up his voice in the soundproof room. The small glass window showed you just how hard he was practising, a vein in his neck was showing as he sang out into nothing. You smiled a little, watching him as he worked there was just something about watching him that made you relax a little.
"Great. Yn is a little nervous, you'll look after her right?" Chan asked, dropping you in the fact that you were nervous when you wanted to keep it hidden. You were supposed to be a calm and composed celebrity like them but you couldn't help it.
Seungmin nodded at Chan and smiled as he left you both alone with each other...and your translator who was ready to jump in whenever you needed him. You hoped you would be able to keep the conversation strong, you knew Seungmin was good at English and you hoped your Korean was good enough for him.
"How long have you been into Kpop?" Seungmin asked as you both sat down on the sofa, he knew he was going to have to try and make small talk while Jeongin was busy.
"A few years, a friend introduced me to it and I've loved it ever since. You're all so hard-working," You explained as he smiled brightly at you, his braces showing as you couldn't help but smile back at him. It was something infectious about it,
"You are too, we love your latest work," He told you with a bright smile, deciding against teasing Jeongin for the moment since he'd been non-stop playing the album all week long. You seemed to relax a little as you looked at him, at least this was going smoother than you thought it would.
Truth be told, you were exactly the best at small talk and meeting new people and you had been worried it would be overly awkward between everyone.
"Really? T-Thank you, I love all of your works. I always look forward to seeing a new Skz-Player or record, they're some of my favourites." You admitted as he chuckled a little, Chan had mentioned that you were a big fan of theirs which was something they were excited about.
Tumblr media
The two of you conversed back and forth with one another, finding it a little less awkward as more time passed. Your translator would step in whenever you needed him and you began to feel at ease around Seungmin. Jeongin on the other hand was jealous as he stared through the window at you and Seungmin together. All the while he'd been practising he had to sit and watch you both together, your hand on Seungmin's knee whenever he would make you laugh so hard you'd throw your head back. Jeongin wanted to be the one to do that to you, he wanted to be the one you would feel carefree around.
You were sitting facing each other and laughing at something he couldn't hear thanks to the room that he was in. Jealously bubbled inside of him as he realised how easy it was for all of the boys to speak to you, meanwhile, he felt himself getting frustrated whenever he couldn't find the words to speak. Just like earlier in the conference room when he'd messed everything up.
He'd wanted to say something but instantly kicked himself when he seemed to lose all of the words he thought he knew in his mind. Even now as he stood at the door trying to gather himself together he knew he was nervous. You were about to be alone with one another while Seungmin took some time to warm up.
"Innie...Are you going to come out? It's my turn to warm up," Seungmin said casually as Jeongin nervously came out of the room, giving you a small wave. You waved back at him as he began to flush a little, it was a step in the right direction since that morning he'd barely looked at you.
"She won't bite you," Seungmin whispered pushing him over to the sofa and quickly heading inside of the room so he didn't have to listen to Jeongin and yourself be a little awkward with one another.
"Seungmin mentioned you're working on a new skz-record..." You didn't know where to start with him, you suddenly felt as though you were a fangirl sitting across a table from her bias. The confidence you'd gained while sitting with Seungmin washed away from you completely. Jeongin stumbled over words in his head as he looked at you, once again he'd lost every word in his mind.
"Erm...Yeah...Just-" Jeongin sighed as he looked up at the ceiling as if the words were written up there and he was trying to pluck them down. You bit down on your tongue, you knew how awkward it must have felt for him so you tried to lessen it just a little.
"Can I know which song?" You asked in Korean shocking him a little as he turned back to you, his eyes wide as he nodded his head. He was trying his best to speak to you, trying to picture you as just one of the boys or even one of the girls from another group but it was hard.
Jeongin knew everything about you, in the least creepy way possible but he'd been following you since your first single and he loved your music and you as a person.
"Day6 I smile." Your hands clapped together at the name of the song, it was one of your favourite songs by the group but Jeongin knew that. It was one of the reasons he had picked it. That and he knew Seungmin had his love for covering Day6 songs.
"I love that song, can I hear?" He blushed a deep colour as he thought about playing you the song they'd recorded but he hadn't bought his laptop with him so he took in a deep breath. Closing his eyes as he tried to imagine that he was just in the room alone,
If you didn't know any better you would have thought you were dreaming, your bias was singing one of your favourite songs to you and you knew what he was saying. The lyrics had been one of the first you'd decided to try and learn since you found song lyrics easier to remember. Taking in a deep breath you looked at him as you began to sing along with him, doing your best to stay in tune.
Jeongin could have sworn his heart was about to explode as you joined in with him, his eyes shot open as he looked at you. His whole chest felt as though it was expanded three times too big for his own body.
"Today, I smile. Even though it hurts, I smile...Till the last moment with you," His eyes locked with yours as you continued to sing together, your voices fit so perfectly together. Though he did find it a little hard to stay in time with you, especially since all he wanted to do was stop and listen to your beautiful voice.
"This could only be sometimes, That I get to see you. I have to, I smile." You both finished and his mouth fell open, not knowing what to say to you after that. You felt your body heating up as you looked at his shocked expression,
"I-I told you it was my favourite." You let out a small giggle and it was like heaven to his ears, something he'd only ever heard over videos or in music videos but in person, it was so much better. You were so much better, so much better he could barely think of words to express how great you were.
"Are we singing a ballad this week?" He suddenly asked in English shocking you a little but you shook your head, you opted for something a little more upbeat than a ballad.
"It's a little more upbeat than that," You admitted as you took your phone out, playing the beat to the song the boys had been working on and he smiled nodding his head in time to it.
"Lyrics?" You could feel your body beginning to heat up as you thought back on something you had been working on. You'd been working on lyrics that symbolised that you had a crush without giving anything away. You'd been using Jeongin as your inspiration but it wasn't as though you could just admit that to him,
"M-My part...Is erm...It's-"
"A secret," Jisung said from the door as he smirked at you both together he'd been putting bets on whether or not Jeongin would have the courage to speak to you or not. Jeongin clenched his fists at his side when he noticed his older member walking into the room. He was finally beginning to feel a little more confident with you in the room and now it was all ruined because you weren't alone.
"Hey, he can know if he wants to." You pouted but Jisung shook his head at you.
"Your part is a secret until we play it for them." You rolled your eyes at him, there was no way he was going to be able to keep it a complete secret. Surely they would want the other boy's opinion on certain verses.
"Or Until you change it at the last second." You teased as you shook your head. Jisung and you had built a friendship that seemed to steam from teasing one another playfully, it felt as though you had a friend by your side.
"Or Until I forget them on stage and make them up." You laughed softly but Jeongin didn't seem to find any of it funny. In fact, it annoyed him that Jisung seemed to speak to you with so much alleviation and even have a flirty repartee with you. You slowly got up from the sofa and headed toward the room Seungmin was in, it was time you warmed up before heading to the dance studios.
"Hyung, we were talking," Jeongin mumbled once you were out of earshot, Jisung looked down at Jeongin in shock. It wasn't often that the maknae got mad but he could tell he was right now,
"So were we..." Jisung said slowly, he didn't want Jeongin to think that there was anything more than that between you and him. He knew of the crush he had on you and he wasn't going to hurt the younger member by doing something he didn't like.
"You know I have a crush on her."
"And that means I can't be friends with her?" Jisung quizzed, making sure to put the emphasis on the fact that you were being friendly with each other and nothing more.
"N-No...But...But I was just getting confident and you came in and ruined it." Jisung smiled weakly at the younger boy before looking at you through the glass.
"Relax...You'll have more time with her...Soon," He promised already knowing that you and Jeongin were going to have a verse together in the song.
Tumblr media
As weeks went by Jeongin was getting more and more confident around you though his jealousy of the other boys began to intensify. You were spending more and more time with the other members and less time with him. Then when you did finally get to spend some time together you always had someone with you, your translator or one of the boys would force their way to sit with Jeongin. It was as if they didn't want you to be alone together and it further annoyed him more.
"Jeongin, you haven't eaten," Chan mentioned as he noticed the food still sitting on Jeongin's plate, he'd barely touched anything all week. Jeongin didn't want to eat whenever you weren't around him, it was a weird feeling that he got inside.
"Do you feel sick?" Chan questioned curiously, before Jeongin could answer Minho smirked and did it for him.
"He feels sick whenever Yn isn't around. He wants to be near her all of the time," Jeongin glared over at Minho and shook his head, he wasn't going to admit that to any of them. It wasn't just because you weren't around, he just felt down whenever you weren't with him and it was starting to impact him a lot.
"Not hungry," He grumbled getting up from the table and heading out of the canteen, the boys watched him closely and Chan nudged Minho with his elbow, silently scolding him for teasing Jeongin.
Ever since you'd gotten here he'd been taking more and more English listens with the boys, doing his best to learn what he could as quickly as possible. It wasn't difficult to put together that he was feeling down about not getting to be alone with you a lot.
Meanwhile, you had been doing the same with your Korean teacher and with Felix since he was the only one you felt confident in telling that Jeongin was your bias. Felix had also told you to just tell Jeongin the truth but you held off for a while, not wanting to make things difficult.
"Innie?" You called out as you passed by him in the hall, his heart lept into his throat as he turned to look at you.
"I was just going to eat, do you want to come with me?" You asked, pointing over at the canteen but he didn't want to go back in there. He knew if he did the boys were only going to tease him more for it so he thought on his feet.
"There...There's a small place down the road, we won't get seen if you want to go there." Alone? With Jeongin...Alone with your bias? It was something you'd been dreaming of doing since arriving here so you glanced to your translator. You were finally confident enough to talk without him so you dismissed him to go and do whatever he wanted,
"I'd love to...Can we get Korean barbeque?" You walked to his side and he could have sworn he felt a rush of sparks fly from the close proximity he had with you.
"Sure," He chuckled as you both put on your masks, pulling up your hoods as you headed out into the busy street instantly blending in with other people that were around you.
Jeongin knew neither of you would be spotted inside the restaurant, it was a place frequented by idols and the owners kept reporters and fans out at all costs.
Tumblr media
"I've never tried it," You admitted as Jeongin showed you how to fold Ssam up, proceeding to push the full leaf into his mouth and almost choking as you giggled at him. He hadn't expected you to hold eye contact with him while he ate the whole thing,
"You look like that pokemon...W-What's the name?" You groaned, putting your ingredients into your lettuce leaf while giggling a little as you tried to think of the pokemon he looked like.
"Weepinbell!" You cheered out before doing the same as Jeongin, doing your best not to choke on the food as he watched you closely. The two of you had ordered all different kinds of meats for you to try since it was your first time trying food outside of the JYP canteen and your hotel. You'd been sitting here for what felt like mere minutes but neither of you had noticed it was late outside and your phones had been blowing up with messages.
Right here it was just the two of you in your own little bubble that neither of you wanted to pop. Neither did the owners, when they'd gotten a call from a worried Chan they assured him that everything was fine and the two of you were eating together. Chan relaxed a little happy to know he hadn't lost a member and a friend in the middle of Seoul.
"Thank you for this," You told Jeongin as you finished your mouthful, smiling at him as he shook his head. There was no reason to thank him for taking you out to eat, you'd been working out all morning you needed something in your system.
"For what? I took you to get something to eat," You smiled at him as you shook your head, it wasn't just that he'd taken you to go and get food. You had been dying to get out of the hotel and JYP building for weeks but you barely had any time to do so. If you weren't with the boys you were working out and if you weren't working out your manager wanted updates.
"Taking me out, it's nice to get a break. I've been wanting to sightsee for a while so I've gotten a little of that done." You mentioned. Jeongin had noticed you staring up at huge buildings as you walked through the streets and he felt bad that you'd mostly been working while you were here and he bit down on his lip.
"What if we went out this weekend? I can take you to all my favourite places...We can do it the day after the performance." Your heart practically jumped into his hands as you nodded your head at him, more time alone with him sounded perfect. You'd been desperately trying to ditch your translator and the boys whenever they were around so you could get some, one on one time with Jeongin.
You'd had time alone with the others but never with Jeongin.
"You wouldn't mind being alone with me?" You quizzed, looking down at the meat that was cooking and Jeongin frowned. Why would he mind it?
"Not at all, I-I like spending time with you." He stumbled over his words a little and you glanced back at him and felt a little weight lift from your shoulders. Most of your time spent together had been with the boys, it always felt as though he needed someone there.
"I thought maybe you didn't want to...With the boys always around I took it as a sign you didn't want to be alone with me." Jeongin's heart felt like it was crushing, he couldn't believe you felt that way.
"Not at all. I wanted to be alone with you...I was just a little too nervous to say anything," He poured you some water as you smiled at him, looking down at the glass. It was now or never.
"I want to admit something," You said slowly before taking your glass into your hand and sipping on the water. Your mouth was dry since you knew what you were about to admit to him.
"Go for it," He urged, sliding some meat onto your plate, you looked at it before staring back at him. You just had to remember that Jeongin did like to spend time with you and that you wanted to be open with him.
"When we first met, I thought you hated me..." Jeongin's hand froze on his chopsticks and he slowly moved his gaze from the meat and up to your face.
"Hate you? Why would I hate you?"
"I don't know...I just- I was so nervous about meeting you and I thought you were going to hate me." He laughed a little, none of the boys was ever going to be able to hate you. You were such a warm person that they couldn't help but feel invited into your space and friendship.
"You didn't have to be nervous about meeting us." He mentioned, only thinking you were nervous about all of the boys but that wasn't the case. The rest of the boys had felt easy compared to Jeongin and you knew the real reason.
"N-Not all of you...Just you, Jeongin..." You put some meat into your mouth, too afraid to meet his gaze but Jeongin was confused.
"O-Oh." He frowned, not following along with why you would be nervous to meet him. You looked at him and smiled shyly, hoping he would be able to take the hint.
"Oh!" He yelled out a little as he finally realised what you meant, you laughed a little beginning to burn up as he stared back at you. For a second you felt sick, did he hate you now? You'd basically just told him you had a crush on him and he hadn't said anything yet. His cheeks burnt as red as the tomatoes on his plate as he tried to think of something to say but nothing was coming out.
Words formed inside of his head but refused to fall from his lips.
"You're my bias." You added just in case he didn't get it but he nodded his head at you,
"If I'm being honest...You're my bias too." You laughed a little before feeding him some of your meat, your whole chest tingled as he looked back at you with complete adoration in his eyes.
"So if...If I said this weekend would be a date?" He suggested, turning over the meat so that it wouldn't begin to burn.
"I would be more than okay with that," You beamed as he blushed even more, his mind already racing to come up with where he was going to take you first and how he was going to spend the day with you.
"Perfect, I'll make sure we have fun," He told you before you pressed a kiss to his cheek.
Tumblr media
The performance had gone perfectly and you and the boys had rocked it perfectly, Jeongin slowly got the hint of what your lyrics had meant and that they had been directed at him. The two of you had spent the day going through a whole checklist of things you wanted to see and do. You'd even managed to convince Jeongin to go on the Zipline with you to Nami Island. Though he hadn't been too sure when you first asked him to do it with you.
"You want to know a secret?" You asked as you both walked along the Nami Island pathway, holding snacks in one hand and his hand in the other. It might have been too soon to think of the number one rule but you couldn't help it. With every second you spent with Jeongin you found yourself falling deeper and deeper into a hole with him and you never wanted to climb back out.
Today had only confirmed your ever-growing feelings for Jeongin and you hoped he felt the same way as you. The small touches you'd given to each other were evidence enough that he liked you but you needed more than that. You wanted a relationship with him but only if he was willing.
"Go for it," Jeongin said as he looked at you, your eyes were already on him. The two of you stopped walking and moved off the pathway so people were able to get past you easier. Your heart raced in your chest as you felt a little sick. If you said this and he didn't feel the same way it would be fine, the performance was over and you could go to your hotel and wish the day away. But if he did feel the same you...Well, you weren't sure but you'd probably feel as though you were floating on a cloud.
Since your Korean Barbeque date, the two of you spent more time together, even going to the dorms instead of straight back to your hotel room. You finally felt comfortable with each other enough to relax and be yourselves.
The two of you worked well together and had bonded over many different things and you prayed you weren't the only one feeling the connection.
"I think I'm going to end up breaking the first rule of kpop with you." You struggled to get the words out but when you finally did he tilted his head to the side. Clearly not following along with whatever that meant, so he began stealing some of the candy floss you were holding as you let out a small giggle. It wasn't your usual one which meant you were nervous, Jeongin knew all of your signs by now.
"Which is?" He urged you to continue and you swallowed the lump that was in your throat. It wasn't as if you were telling him that you were in love with him. Just that you knew you were going to be eventually,
"Not to fall in love with an idol." His heart stopped beating at that moment as he looked at you, his eyes dancing between your lips and your eyes. He'd been dying to kiss you all day and now he needed to do it.
"Can I?" He asked as he looked at your lips again,
"Please," You practically begged as he moved closer to you, his head tilting to the side as you connected your lips with one another. It was soft and pure as you both adapted to kissing one another, your head was spinning as you felt explosions happening all over your body.
It was as if every hair on your body stood up to attention but you didn't care, you carefully wrapped your arms around the back of his neck bringing yourself closer to him and he smiled. The bag and candyfloss you were holding dropped to the floor as you put every feeling you had for him into this kiss. Jeongin whined as he wrapped his arms around your waist and gently pushed you up against the trunk of a tree.
At that moment the chemistry between you began to implode as you kissed, your lips moving in perfect harmony. Neither of you ever wanted it to end, your hands making their way into his hair as you pulled softly on the strands.
It didn't feel like it did in the movies, or how it was described on paper. This was full of promise that you felt the same way for one another and realness between you. Filled with a primal desire that you had for each other and an unspoken promise that this feeling was never going to end.
Pulling away you leaned your forehead against his, panting heavily as you looked at each other letting out small breathless laughs.
"I-If it wasn't obvious enough, I might be breaking a rule too." He breathed, looking at you as you put your hand onto his cheek stroking it gently with your thumb.
"Which is?"
"Don't fall in love with a celebrity." He teased as you let out a laugh, leaning back against the tree as you both stared happily at one another.
“T-Take me back to the hotel,” You whispered breathlessly as you ran your hands down his shirt, his heart rapidly beating against your touch as he looked at you,
“You can spend the night right? You don’t have work tomorrow?” You asked as he let out a low moan, he knew exactly what you were hinting at.
“I’ll call in sick,” He whined before kissing your neck, not being able to keep his hands to himself anymore as he pulled at your clothes completely forgetting where the two of you were for a minute as he lost himself in your touch.
Tumblr media
Though the relationship was full of challenges the two of you made it work, going to visit one another whenever it was humanly possible. If the love between you was strong enough it was going to make it through a distance and it was. Three beautiful years of a relationship together and you were getting ready to tell the media the truth about your "friendship" as they saw it. Though you already knew some of your fans and Jeongin's were putting the pieces together.
"You ready?" Jeongin asked as you stood backstage together, his hand resting on your lower back as he checked that you were absolutely sure about the way you were going to announce this. On stage, in front of your fans and his as you sang a ballad the two of you write together for each other.
"More than ever," You whispered as he leaned across to kiss your lips softly, the lights flashed on and music started as your sign to start walking. You were going to do this as long as you had Jeongin by your side, with him by your side you always felt as though you could take on the world.
"Here," He whispered locking his hand with yours as you began to slowly walk out onto the stage, laughing a little when you heard the eruption of cheers come from everyone that saw your hands locked together.

329 years ago... ( October 31st, 1693)
A loud sudden gust of wind and the noise of spooked livestock woke Thackery Binx from his bed. He turned to his left to check on his little sister, Emily Binx, who was no longer in her bed. He quickly gets dressed and exits the house to search for his sister.
A strange song can be heard in the background, but Thackery ignores it as he asks his neighbor Elijah about his sister's whereabouts, "Elijah! Elijah, Has Thee seen my sister, Emily?" "Nay, but look they conjure" Elijah replies pointing to the woods where purple smoke can be seen in the sky. "Oh God! The woods!!" Thackery exclaims as he and Elijah run down the road to get a better look. They see Emily following a witch into the woods, giggling. Thackery calls out to his sister, but she fails to hear him. "She's done for!" Elijah says only to be cut off by Thackery, "Not Yet! Wake my father! Summon the elders!! Go!"
Thackery shoves Elijah before he takes off into the woods, calling after Emily. As he runs, he fails to see the steep hill he's atop and falls all the way down, panting and groaning. As he collects himself, he looks up to see his sister follow the witch into a cottage where two other witches are waiting with a boiling cauldron of purple liquid.
Thackery sneaks up to the cottage and peaks through a window to see the three witches gather around his sister like hungry wolves. His sister catches a glance of him and her eyes widen raising the witches' suspicion. The eldest witch, Winifred Sanderson, looks out the window while the other two, Mary and Sarah Sanderson, go outside to look for the cause of the surprised expression on the child's face. Seeing nothing, Winifred sighs and says before shutting the window, "Oh look. Another glorious morning. It makes me sick!" She turns her back to the window calling for her sisters before commenting, "Must have been an imp"
Winifred walks over to her spellbook and talks to the oddly living book, "My darling! My little book." She carresses the book as she continues to speak, "We must continue with our spell now that our little guest of honor has arrived. Mary!" She gestures her younger sister to stir the cauldron resulting in some bickering that the youngest of the three, Sarah, was not helping. Only for Winifred to point out that Sarah had done her job already.
The book opens itself to the page that contains the recipe for the potion the witches are brewing. Winifred reads the recipe as Mary brews, "Bring to a full rolling boil. Add two drops oil of boil. Mix blood of owl with the herb that's red. Turn three times, pluck a hair from thy head. Add a dash of pox and a dead man's toe" As they brew Thackery sneaks into the cottage by climbing the water wheel and entering the second floor window. After adding the dead man's toe, Sarah and Mary start to mess around causing Winifred to scold the two "Will you two stop that! I need to concentrate."
"Sisters! Gather 'round. One thing more and all is done. Add a bit of thine own tongue" Winifred says as she and her sisters spit into the cauldron causing the liquid in the cauldron to turn green meaning the potion has successfully been brewed. "Tis ready for tasting! One drop of this and her life will be mine. I mean, ours" Winifred said as she gathered a bit of the potion into a spoon before turning to Emily, "Alright girl open up your mouth" Thackery stands up making himself known in an attempt to save his sister, "No!!!" he screams jumping down onto the floor to stop the witches.
"Get him you fools!" Winifred shouts at her sisters. They circle around the cauldron until Thackery decides to empty the potion onto the floor and use the empty cauldron to knock the other two witches to the floor. "Emily!!" he calls as he runs towards her, but Winifred uses her power to zap Thackery, causing him to fall to the floor in pain.
As the two get up from the floor, Mary notices that Emily, who had drank a bit of the potion before her brother intervened, was surrounded by a feint light. "Winnie, look." Mary said cheerfully. Winifred smiled, "Sisters prepare thyselves. Tis her life force. The potion works. Take my hands we will share her"
The three sisters stalk towards the child and inhale her life force leaving, Emily Binx dead slumped over in the chair. Thackery brings himself to his feet as the sisters revel in their newfound youthful appearance that has been gained by inhaling Emily's life force.
Winifred turns to Thackery and grits out, "Let's brew another batch!"
"You hag! There are not enough children in the world to make thee young and beautiful." Thackery says insulting Winifred. She and her sisters decide to punish him and look through the spell book for options, eventually settling on one. "His punishment shall not be to die but to live forever with his guilt" The three begin to chant a spell turning Thackery into a black cat.
Too late to save anyone, a mob arrives at the Sandersons’ door, and they capture the sisters to hang them in the town square. Thackery's father interrigates the sisters before the hanging about the fate of his son which the sisters laugh and say, "I don't know cats got my tongue"
Before the sisters die, however, they sing a song and cast a curse, making it so that it is possible for them to return to their sacred city one day. "Fools! All of you! my ungodly book speaks to you. On All Hallows' Eve when the moon is round, a virgin will summon us from under the ground!! Ohho! We shall be back and all the lives of all the children shall be mine." Winifred cackles before Thackery's father orders them to be hung.
Present Day... (October 31st, 2022)
The nine lovers sat around the fireplace listening to each other tell scary Halloween stories to the group having a competition to see who could scare each other the most. "C’mon, y/n, you're not scared of the Sanderson sisters, are you?” Minho teased their girlfriend softly. She scoffed even though she had buried herself in Changbin's strong arms, "No, it's just that story is creepy. I mean, who curses a boy to be alive forever"
The others laughed before Hyunjin spoke up, "It's not that scary. why don't we go to the old Sanderson house and see if the cat is still there?" "I don't know, Jinnie. Are you sure that's a good idea?" Y/n asked. The others tried to encourage her to go with them. Chan wrapped his arms around y/n, "Don't worry, baby girl, I'll protect you."
Y/n reluctantly agreed to go with her boyfriends to the witches' house. They all slid on their coats before they said goodbye to y/n's parents and left the house. As they walked, Seungmin told them random facts about the Sanderson Sisters. "Legend says that the bones of a hundred children are buried underneath these walls," Seungmin says. Y/N and Felix shivered, holding onto each other. "You're not making this any better, Minnie." y/n said quietly as she held onto Felix's hand and one of Chan's arms.
They laughed softly as they entered the old house that had once been a museum but ultimately was closed because of the spooky things that had happened there. Jisung flicked on the light switch turning on all the lights. "Woah, this looks so cool" Jeongin said as they looked around
Seungmin and Minho took turns telling the group about the witches. "This is the spell book of Winifred Sanderson. The book is bound in human skin and contains the recipes for some of her most powerful and evil spells," Minho said. "We get the picture," Changbin said softly.
"What's that?" Felix asked, pointing to a candle standing in the corner. ""That's the black flame candle," Seungmin said. Hyunjin walked over to it, "Black flame candle, made from the fat of a hangman. Legend says it will raise the spirits of the dead when lit by a virgin on Halloween night." Hyunjin chuckles, "So why don't we light the sucker and meet the old hags?" Y/N instantly shook her head, "Let's not and say we did."
Hyunjin goes to light it when Thackery Binx jumps onto him trying to prevent him from doing so. Hyunjin screams as he falls to the floor, "Stupid cat!" He stands up after prying Thackery off of him. "Okay Hyune, you've had your fun. It's time to go" Jisung says softly. "He's right it's time to go" Chan agrees. "Oh come on it's just a bunch of hocus pocus" Hyunjin says with a scoff shaking his head. "Jinnie I'm not kidding this time it's time to go," Y/n said taking Chan's hand in hers.
Hyunjin shook his head and lit the candle with his lighter, "JIN NO!" Felix said loudly. Y/n gasps as all the lights go out, the wind blew heavily, and the ground started shaking. Chan pulled her close as they looked at Hyunjin, "Looks like a virgin lit the candle."

Baboba
Synopsis: If boba is a religion, then your family’s shop is a place of worship, and Jeongin is a devout follower. This is all to say that Jeongin is Baboba’s best customer, and you welcome his presence. Boba shop AU. College AU.
Warning: none
Word Count: 3.5k
Pairing: fem!reader x Yang Jeongin
Tumblr media
Sundays are always busy, but now that August is almost over and the fall semester is approaching, Sundays are hectic. Hoards of students from Seoul National University flock to Baboba for their last drinks of the summer. Milk teas, fruit teas, regular teas, and even milkshake-esque, slush teas—your family’s shop has every kind of drink anyone may want. If they’re hungry, then there’s popcorn chicken in five levels of spice, thick waffles topped with ice cream, and fish-shaped pastries stuffed with red bean paste. Having so many items on the menu seemed ambitious at first, but with three employees at the front handling beverages, your dad is able to focus on the food in the back kitchen. Although, he never appears to actually stay there.
During a rare instance where you’re not manning the register, he comes out and sidles next to you at the pick-up station. He smells like chicken, and your stomach growls as you call out an order. His gaze sweeps across the crowds, trying to find a certain someone. “Is that him?” he whispers.
You don’t even glance up from the cluster of drinks you have in front of you. “Dad, not every college guy is Jeongin.”
Jeongin is the shop’s most loyal customer by far. Baboba opened in the middle of June when most students returned home for break, so Jeongin’s frequent visits were greatly appreciated. In fact, he was Baboba’s first customer. There’s a photo of him posing with your dad to commemorate the event. It hangs next to the newspaper clipping announcing the shop’s grand opening. Over the months, he’s developed an attachment to the place, doing homework from his summer classes while nursing a cup of boba. Usually house milk tea with tapioca pearls, but occasionally he’s adventurous and tries something new, taking recommendations from you or your dad. He even chats to your dad when they’re both free.
The point is, your dad loves him.
“He hasn’t come by for so long, I’m worried about him,” he says, his eyes still fixated on the door. He nudges you aside. “Why don’t you go help Yeji with the drinks?”
“Okay, fine.”
You head over to Yeji, Baboba’s latest hire. Her eyebrows are furrowed as she scans the cheat sheet taped to each station and the label on the empty plastic cup. She mumbles to herself, “Matcha milk tea, matcha milk tea.”
“One scoop of this.” You hand her the glass container filled with matcha powder, and she sighs appreciatively. She’s a part-timer and only been here for a week, so you don’t expect her to have the entire menu memorized. “I’ll start on the next order.”
Minho, the other paid employee, adds two more empty cups to the line of unfulfilled orders. He adjusts the light brown cap on his head and gives you a sympathetic look before returning to the customers. After a deep breath, you take stock of the labels, mentally sort them from simple to finicky, and start making drinks.
Sometime during the chaos, Yeji is placed on errand duty, also known as running back and forth between the kitchen and pick-up station to grab food. Your dad is still keeping watch for Jeongin.
In a rare lull, Minho gives you a hand, quickly scooping and pouring ingredients into the shaker cups while you finish the beverages with either additional toppings or lids. In the middle of dolloping cheese foam, you hear your dad gasp, “He’s here! With friends!” He heads to the register, eager to say hello to his favorite patron. However, tragedy strikes.
“We’re almost out of chicken!” comes Yeji’s harried cry.
Your dad’s eyes flick between all three of his employees. Yeji plants herself at the pick-up station, cradling a box of popcorn chicken to solidify her claim. You and Minho exchange glances and have a second-long staring contest for who will work the register now. Neither of you like the position very much, but since he’s paid his dues already, you concede.
Jeongin stands at the front of the group. In a plain white t-shirt and a studious expression on his face, he looks like how he did on the first day he came to Baboba. The menu in his hands is flipped somewhere to the middle, and his friends look over his shoulder and muse about what to get. Jeongin looks up momentarily, and his eyes crinkle when he makes eye contact with you. Your stomach does something you can’t pinpoint.
Over the din of the machines, you say, “Hi, welcome to Baboba. What can I get you?”
“Anything new?” he asks. He passes the menu to the nearest friend and steps closer to the counter, arching his neck to see into the kitchen. “I heard about the chicken emergency. Say ‘hi’ to your dad for me.”
“If you get the chicken, he’ll come out and give it to you personally. He misses his best customer,” you laugh, making him blush. “Nothing new, but check back next week.”
“What’s happening next week?”
You lean in conspiratorially, the same time something clatters in the back. “You didn’t hear it from me, but possibly something with coffee. The usual then?”
While Jeongin deliberates, you furtively check on Minho and Yeji, both of whom are wiping down a spill consisting of pudding and black tea. Minho’s apron has a dark stain on it now. Poor Yeji, silky soft pudding slipping and breaking between her gloved fingers, is flustered beyond belief.
“We got it,” Minho calls to you. “Can you get us a new cup though?”
You check through the order history on the machine and find the corresponding one. By the time you’ve stuck the label onto the cup, Jeongin and his friends are ready to order. They look concerned about what happened in the back. You pull the brim of your cap lower and ask what you can get them.
Brown sugar milk tea, 100% sweetness; strawberry milk slush, 100% sweet; hibiscus green tea, 75% sweetness, and one bungeoppang. And of course, what you now want to name as the Jeongin Special, house milk tea with boba, 75% sweetness, with an order of mild popcorn chicken.
“I don’t mind the ten minute wait,” he says before you can inform him. After you add on the discount for students of Seoul National University, he taps the back of his phone on the card reader. “Are you still gonna work here in the fall?”
“Yeah. It’s gonna get busier, so my dad’s gonna need help.” He smiles in understanding, and in the next instant, your customer service facade slips back on. “Your order will be ready soon. Thank you for coming to Baboba.”
One confirmation nod later, he joins his friends by the pick-up counter. The girl with copper hair greets him by grabbing his arm. Friend or girlfriend? You and Jeongin have never really talked about relationships, mostly because he always asked about the shop and you were all too willing to answer.
While Yeji disappears into the back to grab a fish-shaped pastry, you set aside the hibiscus green tea for Minho to fill after he finishes his current order. In the meantime, you scoop a spoonful of brown sugar boba and coat the insides of a cup with their syrup. Making drinks is as soothing as it is chaotic. Having worked together for the last month, you and Minho dance fluidly around each other, setting aside the latest orders one after another. Meanwhile, Yeji handles the strawberry milk slush, so you’re tasked with the house milk tea. It’s by far your favorite milk tea variation to make.
A minute later, the kitchen doors swing open, and your dad unabashedly exclaims out, “You’re finally back!”
Jeongin replies back, equally as enthusiastic. He introduces his friends to your dad, who heartily welcomes them and points to the photo on the wall. It’s met with awe. They exchange more words, inaudible over the shaker machines and the clink of ice chips. You’re about to leave Jeongin’s drink at the counter until you hear your dad say, “Of course, you’ve met my daughter already.”
He gestures to you, and you pretend to be preoccupied by the shelf of syrup bottles. Yeji is currently busy measuring out the milk. Strawberry, strawberry, where is it?
Your dad calls your name, waves you over, so you slink over with milk tea in hand. You awkwardly say hello to them, lingering for a few seconds while your dad explains that you also go to SNU. A first-year business major with a potential minor in design, he proudly says. You tersely smile. Jeongin looks surprised by the design minor, probably because you didn’t mention it in the last couple weeks. He’s an education major, no plans for a double major or a minor yet.
You feel yourself trying to blend into the floor, so you excuse yourself to help a new customer. It’s much easier to face a single stranger than a whole group of them.
Jeongin and Co. finally finish chatting with your dad, who is extremely excited to share about the upcoming coffee milk teas to celebrate the beginning of the fall semester. Your little tip-off for Jeongin has now turned into an official public announcement. When they walk past the register to exit, you begin to uselessly organize the straws in their metal container. Black, white, gray, brown, transparent. Your dad thought it was too dull for a boba shop, but your mom, the one who works in marketing, said it was on trend these days.
“Hey,” Jeongin says. His friends are gone, and you relax a little. “Design minor, huh? That sounds cool.”
“Yeah, just thinking ahead,” you reply, motioning vaguely at the shop. You always intended to go into business, but with your dad quitting his law firm job to start Baboba, it felt imperative that you take up design as well for advertising purposes. Your mom is too swamped with work to help. “I did most of this stuff, so I figured I should at least learn more. Any feedback?”
He looks around, scrutinizing the cream walls and the pots of ivy hanging by the window. The quaint white tables and chairs, the giant decal on the window declaring the name of the shop, the wall tacked with Baboba’s history. His eyes pause on the large center frame. With a thick black pen and a steady hand, you wrote the story of how Baboba came to be. Jeongin read it while sipping on his first cup of boba from the shop.
“Maybe a photo-op spot?” he suggests. “With lights and stuff?”
There is a blank wall by the front of the store. If you moved the lone seat for one somewhere else, a nice mural and a bench would fit there. “I’ll ask the owner, but it sounds like a good idea. Thanks.”
The door swings open, and a tour group—at least, you think they are judging by the size and overwhelmed expressions—enters. Jeongin notices them as well.
“I’ll see you next week,” he says. He takes a backward step. “Maybe earlier.”
“Yeah, of course.” He nearly collides with a customer, and you stifle a giggle at his deeply apologetic bow. When he waves goodbye, carefully balancing his box of chicken in the crook of his arm, you return the gesture. “I’ll be on the lookout for you!”
He’s out the door, but you still see him through the window and he does as well. You send your regards one last time. He does the same. Then the copper-haired girl calls for him, and he bounds over, eager to hear what she has to say. A foreign feeling fills your stomach. It’s not hunger, that much you’re certain about.
You don’t really have time to think about it. It’s Friday now, and since most of the students have come back and since social media posts and flyers have been made about the brand new coffee milk teas, Baboba is now teeming with customers. Many of them are here to try the place that opened over the summer, but quite a few are becoming loyal members of what Minho is now calling the Baboba cult.
“Who’s the cult leader?” Yeji asks. She’s on her break but keeping you and Minho company on the other side of the boba-making stations. As she chews on a complimentary bungeoppang, she studies the cheat sheet and scans the shelf for the location of the ingredients.
“Jeongin,” you answer without a second thought. To your disappointment, he hasn’t come back yet. You do overhear a few people talking about how they his pictures and his raving reviews of Baboba, but that’s all. “Minho, we need to play catch up for a bit.”
At the register, Minho gives you a thumbs-up. He takes one last order before diving into the mess of empty labeled cups. Meanwhile, you set down two matcha slushes on the counter and shout the order number over the noise. There’s so many people today. The air conditioning is on at full blast, but the front door opens at random intervals, inviting customers but also the late August heat inside.
Your dad must be dying in the kitchen.
Whenever he comes out to bring out chicken or bungeoppang or waffles, he always makes sure to stand under the vent for a few extra seconds. Finished with her snack, Yeji asks if he’s all right, if he wants any help in the back, but he shakes his head. You look at him with concern. His shirt collar is ringed with sweat.
“I’m fine,” he says before you can say anything. “I have a fan and some ice.”
You cannot believe he was a lawyer before this because that is one of the worst arguments he has made. “Dad, that’s not—”
“Go help Minho.”
You reluctantly obey, but you purposely mess up a drink on purpose to set aside for him. Honey green tea, 50% sweetness, and lots of lychee jelly on the bottom—his favorite.
Yeji joins the fray soon. The three of you tackle the beverages with ease, and by sunset, the afternoon rush slows down a considerable amount, enough that you and your dad can eat dinner together in the back.
Four chairs surround an old table, but only two will be in use. On top of the table lies a stack of glass containers in varying sizes. Your mom dropped off some leftovers earlier, so dinner tonight is rice and grilled fish with a large heaping of pickled vegetables. Your dad savors the drink you made, letting out a loud “ah” every time he swallows.
“We’re gonna have to hire more people soon,” you remark, picking apart fish flesh from bones with your chopsticks.
“Do you think Jeongin will be interested?”
You laugh at his one-track mind. If Jeongin is the leader of the Baboba cult, then your dad is the leader of the Jeongin cult. “I asked him about it in the summer. He’s busy with classes.”
“He’s a nice boy. Very polite, very smart. Handsome too.”
You raise an eyebrow at the sudden statement and reach for some kimchi. This heading towards familiar but unwanted territory. “Minho’s also a nice boy.”
“He is, but I also have to pay him. Jeongin gives me money.” He nods to himself. “He would be a good son-in-law.”
“Dad!”
“I was speaking in general terms. Your own mind went there by itself.”
You sigh, he smiles. He’s won the case. Luckily, he doesn’t prod you any further about him, mostly because you want to run your design idea for the photo wall with him. Murals are quite expensive, but wall decals and wallpaper aren’t. A simple wooden bench is also easy to source. As for the “lights and stuff” portion of Jeongin’s suggestion, hanging light bulbs would fit well without compromising the modern interior.
“That sounds nice. Maybe ask our marketing expert later to see what she thinks, but I like it. Free advertising.” He gets up from his chair and gathers your bowl along with his. “I’ll clean up. We should let Minho have his break now.”
He places your uniform cap back on your head and snugly secures it like you’re a child again. You pretend to squirm, but he knows better. Then he lovingly pats your cheek and sends you out to the front.
It’s still relatively quiet, but the after-dinner crowd will come by soon. Friday nights are by far the busiest. While Minho leaves the shop to grab dinner from one of the nearby restaurants, you and Yeji stay behind and fulfill orders at a relaxed pace. She’s less frenzied now, more comfortable with the measurements and ratios. As she smoothly goes around each station, you handle the ten slush teas, all in varying flavors, all from the same single order. The whir of the blender shuts you away from the rest of the world. You’re unaware of someone calling your name until Yeji finally taps on your shoulder.
“The Baboba cult leader is here,” she says. She has two completed, identical drinks in her grasp. “Do you want to take his order? I can finish yours. More practice with slushes.”
You glance at the register where a patient Jeongin is waiting. When he sees you looking his way, you raise a hand in hello. “Yeah, I’ll take his. Have fun.”
A ready smile on your face, you head over to him. He’s in a brown and white striped jacket this evening, but the collar of a white shirt peeks out from underneath. Is his closet mostly white shirts, you wonder. It’s what you typically see him in, and it seems like he has an endless supply.
“Welcome to Baboba. What can I get you?”
As usual, mild popcorn chicken and house milk tea with boba, 75% sweetness. However, the Earl Grey milk tea with boba, 100% sweetness, is new. It’s your preferred drink of choice, albeit with the wrong sweetness level. You think back to the girl with copper hair who touches his arm constantly, but quickly push those thoughts away.
“No ten minute wait today?” he jokes as he watches you stick on the labels.
“No, my dad prepped a lot before we ate. You didn’t want to try the coffee milk teas? They’re really good, especially with cheese foam on top.”
“Oh, yeah? I’ll save that for the first day of class then.” He sighs and looks around the shop. “I’m gonna miss summer.”
You agree and motion for him to sit somewhere as you get started on his drinks. Yeji, leaning against the counter as she keeps an eye on the blender, notices that you have more than one cup.
“He must really like boba if he’s getting two,” she remarks. She’s barely audible over the drone of the machines. “Do you need any help?”
“Can you get a mild chicken when you’re not busy?” you shout back.
She nods. In the meantime, you focus your attention on the ingredients. Both beverages are simple enough, and before you know it, you’re at the pick-up counter with his order.
“No photo-op yet?” he teases. “I was looking forward to taking some nice pictures there. I dressed up all nicely for it too.”
The room feels a little warmer than usual. “It’s still a work in progress. My dad seemed pretty happy with the idea though, so maybe in a few weeks? Sorry we made you waste an outfit.”
“Nah, I’m kidding. Oh, and uh”—he takes a deep breath—“this one’s for you.”
He pushes the Earl Grey milk tea back towards you. You stare blankly at it, unsure of what to say or do. The air conditioning has seemingly turned off, and all the heat of summer has descended upon you.
“Thanks,” you stammer. Nonetheless, your hand circles around it anyway, the chill of the ice against the cup a blessing. “You didn’t need to, but thanks. Really. That’s very sweet of you. You—you know I work here, right?”
He laughs. “Yeah, but I know you like it and… it’s just a gift. Fundraising for my idea, if you wanna look at it that way. But it’s for you. Did I get it right? I remember you telling me that you liked boba more than jelly.”
“50% is my usual, but it doesn’t matter.” You bring the drink to your chest, almost cradling it. Your heart thuds against your apron, wanting to imprint itself on the plastic cup. “Thank you.”
The doors swing open, and a group of rowdy friends clamor in. Yeji yells a welcome as she hurries over to the register as they crowd around the menu. She shoots you a nervous look.
“I need to get back,” you say, “but thanks again. I’ll see you soon?”
After a moment, he replies, “Yeah, I should get going too. Tell your dad hi and bye for me.”
“Of course. Have a nice night.”
You hide your present underneath the counters and fall in line behind Yeji as she taps on the screen of the register. You half listen to the orders. Jeongin left a few seconds ago, so you sneak one last glimpse of him through the window. He sips his drink while he walks. His straw is the same light brown of your cap and apron.
Your gazes meet, and you suddenly crave a particular extra sweet drink.a

By The Blooms- Yang Jeongin
Genre: Flower shop au, florist jeongin, pure fluff Pairing: Jeongin x fem reader Word Count: 1k Warning: None imo
Tumblr media
---
The foggy dawn hugged your three-layered parka, the uneven pavement bearing the weight of your heavy footsteps as you tread on the spurt of weed that found its way through the bricked floor. The cream coloured walls of the neighbourhood standing audience to your journey as you walked towards your comfort space- the little flower shop on the corner of the street.
It wasn’t a long walk, seven minutes on the max, but it felt like a serene eternity. If there was anything that encouraged you to get out of your fluffy bedding, it was the translucent skies with its breathy beckoning that put your mind at rest after the previous day’s tiring happenings.
Like today, you especially looked forward to Sunday mornings, with most shops closed, there were fewer crowds and lesser agitation. The ambience was fresh as though all the fine dust from yesterday disappeared into thin air, quite literally.
The bright blooms placed in front of the glass window welcomed you as you saw past the violet-blue hydrangeas resting on small wooden carts, the sunflowers faced towards you, almost making you feel like the embodiment of sunshine at that moment.
You push the big glass door, the open sign placed promptly in front of the door, the strong fragrance immediately overwhelming your mind. And maybe it wasn’t just the flowers, but also the sight of the boy tending to them.
“Is that a fresh batch of lavender you got today?”
The boy gives you a small ‘hmm’, his eyes focused on the petals of his new variant while throwing away the dried ones.
You pick up a dry one, sniffing it, and you breathe out. It was dry, but the smell was just as aromatic. It immediately calmed your senses and placed a small smile on your face.
Jeongin finally looks at you, taking in the presence of your mismatched socks buried in easy loafers, your black tights, and white shirt under his grey parka. An oversized beanie almost covering your eyes although he found them under your round glasses.
“You’re up early again, not that I’m surprised. Why do you keep coming here, you rarely ever buy my flowers.”
“I don’t know, something about this place makes it feel much safer than home.”
“I know the shop is aesthetic but I don’t want customers who just sit there and distract me.”
“Oh, so you find me distracting,” you reply, a teasing smile directed towards him.
The young owner flushes, the colour of his cheeks now a light shade of pink, the same ones as the roses he was arranging into delicate bouquets.
Maybe seeing him was another reason for visiting this converted store. No, it was the main reason, the pretty flowers were just a bonus. You pick up another dried lavender from the pile of other discarded ones.
“If you don’t mind, I’m taking these with me, it’s not like you need them anyway.”
Jeongin was always curious as to why you would collect rejected flowers and not buy fresh ones, ones that were far more bright and lovely.
But he noticed how you made the withered buds look much more lively, the browning petals complimenting your beanie, the way you held even those dead ones so dearly between your long fingers only pronounced a different sort of love. It almost made him feel bad about throwing them away.
Again his thoughts go back to the grey parka. The fact that it was his made him blush. He remembered giving it to you the last time you arrived in full stride despite the visible goosebumps on your forearms.
He notices your awkward position, especially after you were done collecting all the dried lavenders and you had tied them up with a tiny ribbon, lips pursed and dimples showing.
Your presence was therapeutic and he could revel in thoughts of you forever if you weren’t standing there, expecting an answer to your assumably rhetorical question.
“Hmm, you’ll have to pay for those lavenders.”
Your brows furrowed and lips pouting. Why on earth would he charge you for ones that weren’t in use.
“Pay me with a favour, nothing more.”
Again, you look at him to elaborate further into this ‘favour’ of his.
“You know, we needed to print a bunch of posters for my shop, and I was wondering if you’d like to model.”
“Model for what? Do I need to be in the picture?”
You were sure the flowers would draw in a good amount of onlookers and your being in the photo may be unnecessary. The thought of being the face of his shop also made you nervous.
“Don’t worry, no one would be able to look away if you were in the picture. You’re far more beautiful than these flowers.”
It was these offhand compliments that made you question your feelings for him. Both of you were used to such quick, nonchalant remarks but you could never recover from such severely sweet statements. It was a huge blow to your collected facade.
He knew you couldn’t refuse after that and you went along with it. He fixes up a quick bouquet of the lavender and hydrangeas. The flowers looked prettier than usual, but only because they were in your hands.
He wasn’t too sure about his previous plan now. While the bouquet was placed in your hands, in front of his window, he immediately regretted his choice. He couldn’t keep his eyes off you, hoping it wasn’t the case for his future customers. Or maybe it was just him.
He quickly whips out his phone from the checkered apron he was wearing, and he took a few steps back, trying to find the best angle.
And he finally captured it, the perfect picture. One that had you in it. He smiles at the way you were in the foreground accentuating every part of his shop. Without your attention, he quickly makes it his home screen.
You hand it back, the bouquet, but for some reason, he wouldn’t accept it.
Almost because he felt the need to give you something specific to memories of him. No, he wanted to see you keep the flowers in your house, not forgetting your encounters with him.
While you were never fond of keeping dead living on display, you didn’t mind it coming from him. And soon you had to leave, not forgetting about your other duties of the day.
Parting made you feel heavy although you came to ease your senses. You sigh, again feeling the lavender tickling your nose with its recognisable scent.
You make sure to return his favourite parka, the warmth slowly fading.
The bouquet was the only part of his being you could hold onto, for now. But you couldn’t leave without giving him your number. This time, he insisted on it. And even if his parka didn’t help, his toothy grin fostered a spark in your heart, one that protected you from the cold day on your way from your temporary home.
That was when you knew that he could make anything bloom- and right now it was your heart.

cavities, fillings, and feelings
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
genre: fluff au: college au, bakery au warnings: none word count: 0.6k   pairing: f!reader x yang jeongin
There is a great irony in being a dental student and walking out of a dental practice with three filled cavities. It’s also embarrassing, especially when you got them filled by another student. You and Minho aren’t in the same cohort, thank God, but you see him enough that you wished to sink into the ground when he showed you your x-rays.
Mortification aside, you’re fine. You could brush better at the back of your mouth, but there’s nothing concerning since the cavities were small. Somehow, in the fog of relief, your brain decides that you should celebrate with a doughnut. The sweet, indulgent thing that may be the reason for your downfall.
Back Door Bakery is situated near your dental school, which means you can always stop by for a doughnut and coffee in the morning. Not that you always do, but you’re there often enough that the workers know you by name and you, theirs.
Jeongin is working today, and he waves hello from the register as you walk in, the chime of the door announcing your presence. He dyed his hair pink for the upcoming Valentine’s Day, and the late afternoon sun streaming through the windows makes it look rosier.
“Let me guess,” he says as you approach him, “Boston cream?”
Your mouth waters at the thought of chocolate frosting and custard filling. However, despite giving into your temptations, you still have some restraint. “No, not today. Just a regular twisted doughnut, please.”
“Coming right up.”
It doesn’t take long for him to grab a cinnamon-and-sugar encrusted doughnut from the display case. You pay, take a large comical bite, and are about to bid him goodbye when he says, “Make sure you come by on Valentine’s Day.”
"Is something happening?"
He smiles a secret smile and says, “You'll see.”
With an invitation like that, how can you resist? You’re at the bakery by seven in the morning, concealing your yawns with your hoodie sleeve. The line is longer than usual, likely because of whatever is happening today, but Back Door looks the same from the outside. You peer at the customers leaving and realize that all of their treats are themed specifically for the holiday. Heart-shaped doughnuts, red-glazed crullers, strawberry-topped éclairs—your teeth hurt just from looking at all of the sugary confections. Nevertheless, it doesn’t stop you from studying the display case with fascination.
You’ve settled on an éclair and your usual latte by the time it’s your turn at the register. Jeongin, working the register like always, asks what you think about the doughnuts today.
“I’m getting cavities just looking at them, so I love it,” you laugh. Remembering your last encounter to the dentist, you tongue your back molars as if you’ve just eaten. “I see so many future clients here. Thanks.”
He grins at your silly joke, and you feel your heart jump. Then he says, “This is for you, by the way,” and your heart does cartwheels.
“Fresh strawberries, strawberry frosting, Bavarian cream filling," he says to your starry-eyed face. “Specially made for you and on the house. Also, your latte should be ready at the pick-up counter.”
“God, I love you,” you reply without thinking.
You blush, and he does too, turning the same color as his hair. “It’s nothing,” he says. “I always like you seeing here, so I wanted to make sure you’d stick around. Happy Valentine's Day.”
“Happy Valentine's Day.”
On your walk to your first class of the day, you contemplate on whether you should eat the doughnut now or later. Or possibly never. It’s pretty in a way that shouldn’t be applicable to doughnuts, and you can’t tell if your own feelings are coloring that opinion. Nevertheless, you can't hide your smile as you think back to Jeongin’s face.
for more valentine's day shenanigans: flowers for you // candy hearts // stupid cupid

Dumb shit skz would do with a tall s/o
Saw @gamerwoo talking about Chan and uppies and it gave me a dumb idea so here bb this one’s for you <3
Chan
Asks you to pick him up in the cringiest way possible. Literally hands up asking for “uppies” in a baby voice. Absolutely takes everything in you not to deck him. Whether he wants to be held or wants help getting something off the top shelf he does it in the worst way possible. What an ick i love him.
Minho
Weirdly obsessed with the top of your head. Like sometimes its cute and he will give the top of your head a kiss when you’re sitting on the couch and he can actually reach it. But also just throws shit at you to see if he can get it to land on the top of your head and stay there. Has thrown all manner of things at you and he thinks its hilarious.
Changbin
Tries to pick you up. Mans it strong and he knows it but he also lacks an understanding of physics. He will try to pick you up by wrapping his arms around your legs and lifting straight up. This bitch (affectionate) always forgets that the center of gravity and balance is about to shift every goddamn time. You have both fallen numerous times. One of these days you’re both gonna get concussions i swear.
Hyunjin
Bbgirl jinnie activated. He’s so in awe of your height and very into it. Will look at you like you’re a deity. Loves when you wear heels or platform shoes maybe a little too much. Wants you to carry him. Wants you to be the big spoon. Begs you to carry him around bridal style and will pout if you say no. Probably draws you as the tall vampire lady from resident evil.
Jisung
Tell me why this man sees your height as a fucking challenge? He will jump just to reach the door frame and smack his hand against it and then stare you down to see if you can do it (of course you fucking can). Gets a ridiculous pair of platform shoes to wear when you’re around and he just smirks at you while you’re laughing, clearly so very proud of himself.
Felix
Asks you to do so many things. He likes to feel helpful and therefore he wants to make sure you always feel helpful too. Will ask for shit on the top shelf of course. But he will also ask for stuff very much within his reach? Shhhh he just wants you to feel like you’re helping and that you and your height are very special to him. Also asks you to lift him up sometimes so he can reach the top shelf which is totally a practical thing and not at all cause he finds it kinda hot
Seungmin
At first it seems like it does not phase him at all. It’s like he doesn't even notice, it doesn’t matter to him and he never mentions it. But then you notice how when you take pics together he always positions himself to look taller nevermind the fact that all of his friends have seen you and your height isn't a secret. Maybe he wants to look tall, maybe he just likes the fuck with people. You’ll never truly know.
Jeongin
Just the dumbest jokes imaginable. Get ready for the “Hey how’s the weather up there?” jokes literally every day. Just teases you for being tall but will not stand for someone else doing it. He can call you a giant (affectionate) because it's with love but if anyone else does it he’s throwing hands.

Grape Soda, the Gateway Wine
Synopsis: When Jeongin comes to you for help with stealing a pegasus in the dead of night, of course you’re going to say yes. Or, how the Great Pegasus Heist goes wrong and potentially right.
Warning: stealing
Word Count: 2.7k
Pairing: son of Dionysus!Jeongin x child of Hermes!reader
Camp Half-Blood AU Masterlist
Tumblr media
Every heist has a backstory, and it just so happens that this heist has a noble reason: to reunite a dear brother and sister back together because the gods forcefully separated them apart in fear that they would overthrow Olympus together. Sana and Jeongin, the two demigod children of Dionysus, are far more powerful than they appear, and with their combined skill sets, they could defeat Zeus easily.
At that point in Jeongin’s story, the sky claps with thunder, causing Jeongin to wince and to apologize to the king of the gods, saying that it was a joke. You also clap, but for Jeongin’s impressive acting and excellent narration. He bows, and you pretend to throw roses.
“So are you in?” he asks. He picks up his half empty can of grape soda, a sure sign that he’s nervous. Though he inherited Mr. D’s affinity for drinks, he and Sana only start treating their preferred drink of choice like water when something is wrong.
You didn’t need the play to be convinced. The moment he mentioned a heist, you were completely sold. “Of course.”
“I’ll meet you at your cabin at midnight and then we’ll head to the stables.”
The dramatic performance provided you with no actual context, but while the two of you rummage around the armory for anything of use, he explains it to you anyway.
Since Sana and Jeongin are the only campers of Dionysus’ Cabin, they’re unbelievably close, sharing everything with each other. However, Sana left for a quest with Chan, son of Poseidon, and Dahyun, daughter of Apollo, a few days ago and didn’t tell her younger brother what the quest was about. Last night, she Iris Messaged him to make sure he was taking care of himself. And that one message drove Jeongin into a frenzy because she allegedly never calls without an update about herself or whatever she’s doing. Also, he heard a thunderstorm in the background, and she’s terrified of thunder, so he needs to rescue her.
You could’ve pointed out that she was probably projecting her fears onto him or that she’s with strong demigods who can protect her—especially Dahyun with her powers of audiokinesis that can muffle the sound of thunder—but hey, you’ve never stolen a pegasus in the dead of night before, so you’re not passing this opportunity up.
When you ask him about where she was, he admits that he has no idea, but they were in a cave somewhere, he says, and caves usually mean that there are nature spirits nearby, so someone must have seen them. You nod sagely and grab a new knife for yourself as he continues lamenting about Sana. Children of Dionysus can induce madness in people, and you distantly wonder if Jeongin accidentally did it to himself.
Nothing in the armory is good for a heist, so you resort to “borrowing” some gadgets from Ares’ Cabin, namely the smokescreen grenades. Since Jeongin is set on leaving camp, you’ve decided to join him along for the journey. After, you visit the stables before they close to drop off a backpack of supplies for the informal quest before returning back to your cabin to prepare other things. You take a few lockpicks in case any of the locking mechanisms are cursed and trade your half brother Minho three bags of chips for a pouch of sugar cubes. He doesn’t ask questions, just wishes you luck with whatever you’re going to do with them.
A minute before twelve o’clock, you sneak past your siblings, some of them sleeping, most of them not. The privacy curtains around each “room” help you leave without detection, but it’s not like Jackson, Hermes’ Cabin’s head counselor, cares enough to drag you back. As long as he doesn’t see you, he has plausible deniability.
Jeongin is waiting around the back with a backpack slung over his shoulder. When he sees that you’ve only got grenades holstered at your hips, his eyebrows go up. You show him the sugar cubes and reassure him that you’re coming along to find Sana. He sighs in relief. As he leads the way to the stables, you keep watch for any patrolling guards, such as the harpies or even Mr. D himself. There’s no light anywhere, and since a flashlight would immediately alert everyone of your whereabouts, the two of you tread carefully. Occasionally, a leaf or branch crunches under your steps, scaring Jeongin. You’d prefer to make a run for the pegasus stables now, but you don’t know how fast he is, and Jeongin is also sipping on a can of grape soda.
“Can’t it wait?” you hiss.
“I’m nervous, okay? Gods, I hope Sana brought enough raspberry punch with her.”
At long last, you’ve arrived at the stables. You and Jeongin swap positions as you try to find all of the locks on the stable doors. There are several, probably because previous campers also tried to steal pegasi back in the day. Fortunately, none of them are cursed or trapped, so all you have to do is place your hand over them and let the locks automatically unlock for you. One final click later, you push open the heavy double doors and gently shut it behind you and Jeongin. He finds the light switch, and the stables come to life. You shove the sugar cubes into his hands as he scans all of the pegasi residing in the stalls.
“Which one?” you ask him as you go retrieve your backpack from a pile of hay.
“Are there really no black ones?”
You glance up, and most of the pegasi are white, with some of them having different colored markings, but there definitely aren’t any pure black ones like Jeongin wanted. He goes to a stall with a brown pegasus inside and tries to feed it a sugar cube. Meanwhile, you watch with amusement as the pegasus shies away.
“Her name is Brisket,” you report. The informational sign on her door also mentions that she’s initially distrustful of strangers and prefers apples.
“Here,” he tries again, holding out a cube that she eyes warily. “Come here, Biscuit.”
“No, her name’s Brisket. Let’s just try another one.”
You point at the stall across the way, and Jeongin shoots you a look that says, “Are you serious?” It’s not ideal, but the white pegasi has a black mane and seems far more friendly than Brisket. You approach the pegasus first, and he sniffs you all over as he searches for any treats. As Jeongin reluctantly comes over, you learn from the sign that Michelini enjoys long flights over the campgrounds and has a penchant to stick his nose where it doesn’t belong. Jeongin offers Michelini a sugar cube, and two seconds later, Michelini’s loyalty has been successfully bought.
After you unlock and open the stall doors, Michelini trots out and spreads his giant wings for all to see. You clap, and he whinnies in agreement. Jeongin climbs on first and waits for you to open the doors to the back exit before helping you on. You land solidly on Michelini, who paws the ground in protest. Jeongin lets him have another sugar cube, and that placates him enough to walk outside. He’s itching to fly, but Demeter’s and Aphrodite’s Cabin have trained the pegasi well enough that they know to wait for instructions.
“Where are we going?” you whisper as Jeongin pulls out a map from his backpack. His tiny flashlight doesn’t illuminate the paper well, so you have to squint to see where he’s pointing. “Kentucky?”
“They have the world’s longest cave system. It’s been almost a week, so they’ve probably reached Kentucky by now.”
“Alright, let’s go.”
Jeongin nudges Michelini up, and soon the two of you are in the air. Every instinct of yours is shouting for you to whoop, but this is a heist, so it’s better if you don’t right now. The cold wind hits you right in the face, reminding you that you’ve successfully stolen a pegasus for at least a night. You should do this more often.
Unfortunately, your partner-in-crime doesn’t share those feelings. He has opened a second can of soda and is combing through the map once more. Michelini flies around in circles, clearly enjoying his freedom.
“Hold me,” Jeongin abruptly says, his voice shaking. The sugar of the soda has finally taken hold. Or it could be his nerves. “You’re still here, right?”
You wrap your arms around his torso, mostly for his sanity. His backpack becomes your pillow, and the idea to swipe a bar of ambrosia from him is compelling. But you choose to close your eyes instead and let your hands remain where they are. “Yep. Wake me up when we get there.”
“Where are you going?”
Jeongin flinches at the sound of his father, and you nearly get an elbow to the face. When you peer out from behind Jeongin, Mr. D is standing—levitating—in front of Michelini. With his signature goblet of Diet Coke in hand and a loud Hawaiian shirt, he looks more like a lost tourist than a camp director who’s about to dole out punishments to thieving demigod teens.
“Good evening, Mr. D,” you politely say. “How are you?”
As is tradition, he responds by calling you the wrong name and then ignoring you. Meanwhile, Jeongin is frantically explaining why he needs to go find his sister while intermittently chugging his own soda. He and Mr. D are more alike than you thought. You wonder if Jeongin’s idea for a pegasus heist came to him while he was stress-drinking soda.
To your surprise, Mr. D doesn’t cut him off immediately but instead listens carefully. Then he remembers that you’re also here, and he banishes you to Chiron while he sorts out his family’s problems. Jeongin shoots you a panicked look, but there’s nothing you can do. The Great Pegasus Heist is over.
After landing, you walk Michelini back into his stable and feed him one last sugar cube before making your way to the Big House. In theory, you could’ve returned to your cabin without any issue, but seeing that Jeongin is about to get heavily reprimanded at the very least, you knock on Chiron’s door, waking him from his sleep, and tell him what happened. You don’t know what you expected, but one week of kitchen patrol is not it.
“Can’t you overlook this?” you try. “I came to you with good, moral intentions, and now I get punished for it. That doesn’t seem fair.”
“I can’t encourage this kind of behavior. Taking a pegasus to leave camp without permission is unacceptable. The cleaning harpies will be expecting you tomorrow. Now, back to bed.”
After a moment of silence, you quietly ask, “Is Jeongin gonna be alright? And Sana and Dahyun and Chan? Can you at least tell me what their quest is if I can’t get out of kitchen patrol?”
He smiles kindly but shakes his head. “They’re all going to be fine.”
You know they are, but having the details of their super secret quest would make Jeongin feel better and your punishment less unfair. Nonetheless, you head back to Cabin 11 where only disappointment and questions from your siblings await.
The next day, no one answers the door when you knock at the Dionysus’ Cabin, so you head to the stables with more bribes for Michelini. Riding on a pegasus, even for less than five minutes, was fun. The double doors are wide open today, and you walk past someone from Aphrodite’s Cabin giving lessons to another camper on a familiar brown pegasus. Apparently, that guy isn’t a stranger to Brisket.
You make a beeline for Michelini, who pokes his head out when he spots you. As you pet his mane and feed him apple slices, you jokingly ask if he overheard the conversation between Jeongin and Mr. D.
“Got any gossip to share?” you say as he sniffs you for better treats. According to Jackson, sugar cubes are unhealthy for pegasi, so you opted to bring Brisket’s favorite snacks instead. “I’ll bring you a whole pouch of sugar cubes if you tell me. Any tea for the sugar?”
When it’s clear that Michelini isn’t going to start speaking any time soon, you lead him outside and let him fly you over the grounds. Canoe Lake shines under the morning sunlight, and several campers from Hecate’s Cabin are already paddling around. Meanwhile, the arena is packed with people with swords and weapons aplenty. You don’t see Jeongin among the crowd. You guide Michelini to the strawberry fields because maybe he’s tending the strawberries today, but only satyrs and Demeter’s Cabin are there.
After half an hour in the sky, you return Michilini to his home, get scolded by someone from Aphrodite’s Cabin for giving him too many snacks, and feed the rest of the apples to Brisket. You have plans to sneak a midnight flight at some point, and she looks like she could be interested once you’ve bought her loyalty. Maybe if you’re extra kind to her, she’ll adopt you as her human, though you think Michelini is gunning for the position of being your best pegasus friend. You give him one last chance to tell you about last night’s conversation, but he only whinnies when you show him you’ve run out of treats.
Instead, you try Dionysus’ Cabin again, unlocking the door with ease when you receive no answer. Inside, the two beds are neatly made, and each side of the room has its own respective piles of leftover drink cans. You snag a grape soda from Jeongin’s side and take it with you in case you need to use it to lure him out of wherever he’s hiding. Seriously, where is he? Did Mr. D let him leave after all? And if he did, did Jeongin really not invite you along?
You storm to the Big House, ready to demand answers from Chiron or Mr. D, whoever you see first. What you don’t expect though, is to see Mr. D and Jeongin playing a card game on the deck. They have matching silver goblets, which is rather sweet.
“You’re okay,” you blankly say.
He smiles brightly and nods. “Sana Iris Messaged me this morning. They’ve finished their quest and are coming back now. She said they should be back tonight.”
You breathe a sigh of relief that you didn’t even know you had and open your stolen can. He says the questing trio were tasked to slay a sea monster that made its way into an underground spring and that Sana was only able to call a few times because she traded most of her drachmas for caving gear. He interrupts his recap by telling Mr. D that he lost the game.
While Mr. D grumbles and mutters something that sounds close to a swear, he motions for everyone to leave. Jeongin waves goodbye and walks down the stairs with you. You hold out the soda to him, but he passes up on it, so you continue drinking because grape soda is surprisingly good.
“We’re having a party when they get back. I told Sana what I did,” he sheepishly says, “and she said she wanted pegasi at the celebration, so do you wanna help? They really seemed to like you.”
The power of sugar cubes. “So we’re stealing pegasi again?”
“We’re not really stealing. My dad said I could throw the party, so are you still in? Or does it being legal make it less exciting?”
You elbow him, partially in indignation, partially as revenge from last night. “Shut up, or I’ll get Michelini to kick you in the face. Parties are just as fun as heists.”
“Much more likely to happen too,” he laughs. When you elbow him again, he throws his hands up in surrender. “Alright, sorry! But it’s true.”
“That sounds like a challenge.”
“It’s not.” When he sees you mulling it over, he sighs and pulls you forward to the direction of the stables. “C’mon. Brisket’s gonna take forever to like us.”
You follow him, but your thoughts are swirling with plans. Maybe you’ll push up your pegasus stealing plans for tonight. Bribe Michelini, land on the doorstep of Cabin 12, and kidnap Jeongin to be your accomplice again because both of you need to finish the crime now. Maybe you’ll even make it to Kentucky before getting caught.
Yeah, that sounds fun.
You’ve even got the perfect words to convince Jeongin to come along: “Every heist has a backstory, and it just so happens that this heist has a noble reason: to prove Jeongin wrong.”
Gods, is this what grape soda does to a person? Well, if it is, you’re not complaining.
