"fuck."
your voice hisses through the rows of books you stalk down, legs carrying you with fervor towards the front desk. "fuck, fuck, fuck!"
Tumblr media
you whirl past a mother reading a children's book to her toddler and wince at your language, mouthing sorry! at the baby as you pass. avoiding the harsh glare of its mother, you mutter under your breath. "shit."
in your hurry, your hip slams into the wooden corner of the front desk; a small grunt of pain hisses through your clenched teeth as you trudge up to your swivel chair.
"god, damn it!" you bemoan, lowering yourself into your chair and sighing heavily as you drop your head to your hands.
"so...it can't be good news." Michelle says to you, quietly, as she grimaces apologetically to the mother who walks towards the exit, shielding her stupid baby's ears from your foul mouth. you ignore the woman's harsh look of judgement, instead biting your lip, willing yourself to calm down.
with a suck of deep breath you shake your head. "no, it is not."
she sends you a consolatory look and to this you groan, "the rent's too much here. thought I'd get this one, I really did." you mutter helplessly, picking up several of the books from the drop bin to check them back in on your computer. "they made me endure four interviews. all for nothing."
a consolatory hand graces your shoulder and you offer your coworker a small smile of gratitude. she sends you a smile so hopeful that you nearly forget the desperate state you're in - the heavy fear of starting new.
"we'll find you a good one. you're smart, marketable, charming..." Michelle shakes her head as you move to protest, pointing at you. "-no, don't even start. we'll get you some more interviews. in the meantime...Dan and I were thinking. we have a couple hundred we could spare this month, just to..." she glances at your shocked stare, shrugging her shoulders. "-you know, get you on your feet. it's not easy to restart, especially after a breakup."
your heart drops at her words, a crawling feeling of shame licking your throat as you shake your head.
eyes stinging, you stare down hard at your keyboard, where your nails pick at the F key. "I couldn't- I couldn't ask that of you. thank you, but I-" you shake your head. "don't do that, really Michelle."
she waves her hand, "we insist. but Dan wants to discuss it in person, so we'll be having you over for dinner soon, okay?" she insists, and you hide your burning face between your hands. "this is too much." you say with a grumble, shaking your head.
"think of it as a gift." she says hopefully with a shrug. "your birthday's soon, isn't it?"
you sigh, smiling over at her as you shake your head. "at least let me do something for you in repayment. do you need any rooms painted? gardening? babysitting?" you offer, sliding slightly towards her to take a sip of her coffee.
"we'll talk about it." she agrees, but you know she isn't going to ask you to do any of it; she and her husband are much too kind.
at your silence she just hums triumphantly, typing away on her keyboard as she files a damaged book report. the library hums with its inherent stillness, the fluorescents flickering as you busy yourself filing your own work for the evening.
five whole minutes pass in silence; a feat for you and the woman who sits just beside you. as you work idly, your eyes jump back to the payphone on the wall across the room where you'd heard the words: thank you for your interest, but we decided to go with another candidate.
whatever. they don't deserve you, anyways. and honestly, the job had shitty benefits.
a sharp sigh from you gives Michelle the narrow opportunity to swivel her chair to face you, as if she'd been waiting for an opportunity to speak.
"you know," she puts on the look of innocence, "I was thinking..."
you fix her with a look - the last few suggestions for money she'd given you were take up dancing (which you would certainly consider, if the nearest club wasn't fourteen miles away) or marry rich. for a woman who's still with the same man she was with in high school, she sure has an imaginative mind.
you're a month away from losing your new apartment and you cannot fathom moving back in with your ex; you'll take anything. Michelle holds her hands out in defense at your glare. "listen, Norah's got a teammate whose father is looking for a nanny."
you let the words sink in as you spin your chair to her in interest. nanny?
"-he owns a construction business. he mentioned looking for a nanny for weekdays at the girls' tournament last Saturday."
you sigh, touched that she'd thought of you, but exasperated. "I work weekdays!" you sigh. she lifts a brow, leaning closer, "yes, but..." she looks around conspiratorially, "-I think Joel would give you higher pay - and you can still work here on weekends."
your brows raise in shock, hope growing in your chest. "what, is he loaded?"
at this, she laughs.
you blink as she holds a hand to her chest, chuckling to herself, leaving you unaware of whatever was so funny to her. "no, no." she calms herself as you stare, less amused. "-but he loves his girl. definitely the type of man who will pay well to make sure his baby's safe."
your lip is tugged between your teeth as you consider; "kids don't really like me."
it’s not even true- kids love you as much as you love them, but something self-sabotaging within you begs to differ.
Michelle snorts, "Norah loves you." she counters; you cross your arms, "well, that's different. she's, like, an eleven year old version of you."
she grins at this; Michelle has known you since you were a sophomore, just freshly out of the dorms - she may be older than you by over a decade and a half, but she and her husband are the closest to family you have in this part of the country.
you nod. "please, will you give him my information? I need any money I can get. I'll be the best nanny in the world."
you're convincing yourself more than her, but she smiles all the same. "I'll see him when I pick Norah up after practice this afternoon. I'll share your number with him, okay?"
Tumblr media
you have the next day off of work; you spend it unpacking some boxes and organizing, taking a walk around the new neighborhood, trying to befriend the building cat with a can of tuna.
you watch people pass in the street, distracting yourself from the disappointment of leaving your old neighborhood, even if it'd been infested by your cheating ex.
the opportunity to nanny this summer lingers in the back of your mind as you walk past a park, watching as the kids clamber and scream and laugh; you smile to yourself, watching a young mother push a child on the swing.
sometime past noon, an unknown number texts your cellphone and you pause the TiVo to flip it open eagerly.
Hey there, it's Joel Miller. Our mutual friend Michelle passed along your number. I've been looking for a nanny for my daughter and heard great things about you. Would you be open to chatting sometime this week? I'd love to discuss a nannying opportunity with Sarah. Let me know if that works for you.
Thanks, Joel
you stare at the words, reading them slowly with a pounding of excitement in your chest. suddenly, the walls of your new, too-expensive apartment seem brighter, the sun opens up the sky - you nearly call Michelle in a burst of excitement before even thinking of a response.
an inkling of doubt pulls at the back of your head; the man seems kind enough - even if he texts like he's a hundred years old, Michelle and Dan know him personally. you slide your phone, staring at the phone screen for a moment before starting to type out a response.
Hi Joel! Nice to hear from you, thanks for reaching out. I'd be happy to meet this week to chat about Sarah and nannying opportunities. I am available in the evenings most days, so if there's any time that works best for you, I can make that happen.
knuckles cramping, you roll your eyes at your effort to be professional over text. you tweak your message several times before signing your name, shutting your eyes, and hitting the send button.
Joel doesn't respond until very late; nearly eleven in the evening, suggesting a time later in the week and telling you his address. Michelle is ecstatic for you, even helping you draft up ways to tell your boss you'll be going part-time in a professional way; it's accepted gracefully, and now all you have to do is hope this Joel Miller can pay enough.
Tumblr media
he hires you an hour after meeting up.
to your relief, his daughter Sarah is a darling; big eyes and a bright smile that hides no malicious intent or snobbery. your anxiety slipped away the moment Joel opens their front door, replaced instead with flustered surprise in your lower belly at the man who stood before you.
why hadn't Michelle at least warned you?
he's taller than you'd imagined, and much more handsome; his dark hair is slightly tousled, a faint hint of stubble framing his jawline, biceps defined by a dark gray shhirt. he's curt but chivalrous, voice a low baritone and veins that trickle up his thick forearms golden skin glowing as he talks.
and jesus christ, his eyes - the memory of how they'd scaled over your body, taking you in as you'd stood in the dying sunlight on his doorstep that first time. dragging slowly, eyes dark and shrouded by long lashes, as you'd introduced yourself. how he'd cleared his throat and let you through with a half smile and a nod.
you'd had to try your hardest to keep your eyes on his as he explained he'd need you most weekdays because he has several new projects and has been working longer hours recently.
it took Sarah all of a minute and a half of shyness and hiding behind her father's leg before you showed her your tamagotchi; immediately after, she decided you were new best friends - with her hand in yours, she eagerly showed around the house in a half-intentional tour, pointing out the best hide and seek spots and showing you her collection of toys.
by the end of the evening, Joel was shaking your hand and agreeing on a bi-weekly payment much higher than you'd expected.
he'd insisted on walking you to your beat-up car, smiling as he opened your driver's door with a shrug - it's dark out, don't want to let my new sitter walk alone at night, do I?
you'd tried your hardest to keep your thoughts professional, but the moment your head fell to your pillow that night, you knew you were fucked.

talk to gabby and come back. a sister. someone who sees, someone who can give me the energy I couldnt give to myself sitting up in my room. thank you for sending her. whoever you are, whatever you are, your intelligence, your grace amazes me. tonight it was her. she was the soft light that illuminated my darkness. tomorrow ill dress as a mermaid. ill wear rosie's leggings and gabby's accessories. all banded together to make the most perfect outfit. one that I can show up in fully. one that illustrates the magic of the world. a mermaid. my favorite mythical creature. symbolic of the world beyond. I get to be her tomorrow. I get to step into her. when I cant see straight, my friends are there to lean on. what a gift. to help dress me to be the mermaid I hope to me. my highest self is a mermaid, she's a fairy, shes a woman of nature. today was hard, but I know tomorrow I will be just fine. I will tip myself in the direction of the narrative I'm praying for, knowing that it is also praying for me.
Its a beautiful myth. An incredible fairytale. One that is so out of this world. Its the tale of a young girl. Born of a filipino father, who is oddly both hard and soft. Who put a tint on her childhood of malice. Feeling like a bit like Cinderella, "write a list of everything I've done for you.. and then tell me you wont go grab me a pepsi from the basement fridge." One stand out night of absolute terror and yelling and running to Sydney's room. My mom holding us, my dad manipulating us to turn us against our mother. Abuse. Begging my mom not to call the police. I've seen the photo of the bruise. I dont know where I found it, but the image of my mom's face is burned in my brain. The yellowish, green bruise staining the side of her face. The way my dad drove us to Eric's house to show us my mom's car parked outside of it, it still had our window paint all over it - decorated for the jonas brothers concert. The way he made us call her and ask her where she was. She lied and said she was at the farmer's market and we cried the whole way home. My mother is my hero. No human on this planet could ever. ever. top my mother. Mimi I know you're here too. Thank you, thank you for her. My mother's heart and mind are the most magical combination, the most amazing concoction of human parts. She is incredible. She did her absolute best. and she succeeded even she she probably couldnt see a way through. this is the strongest testament to human's growing toward the sun that I can see. over time, through it all, she persisted. with no father present, only a loving mother who also had to do it all. my family is no stranger to hardship. she brought a man into our lives when we were little. the one thing she did for herself. the one thing she would not budge on. he saved her. she knew he would and he did. so she did what she needed to do to take care of herself, thats the only time she ever stood up for herself. the only time she took what she wanted and didn't put others first. im proud of her for that. even though I was caught in the crossfire, I'm proud of her for that. the one decision she made for herself. I suppose as women we all hit a certain crossroads, where we can no longer bare the weight of listening to other people about what we should do and who we should be. we must heed to the call within and stand our ground. this is where I come from. this is where the tale begins. this beautiful, broken, but over time soft and loving place. in the southeast corner of the mitten.
im not going to pretend to know what I was like as a toddler. the only distinct, possibly significant part of my childhood was living in sydney's shadow. in this tale, the tale I told myself at that time, I was the less impressive, less responsible, rebellious, artistic child. the story I told myself is the only one that matters because it framed my reality, the way I felt about myself.
I discovered yoga when I was in high school. I had the most incredible teachers. it allowed me to tap into the power that can be accessed through spirit, through the body, it gave me a glimpse into things bigger. I look back and I see a naive, young soul. In the most beautiful way, I believed whole heartedly in the teachings. I made them me. My identity, who I was - introducing yogikelsey. I felt so connected at that time, with the way I was able to navigate pleasures, physical pleasures - food. I believed in nourishing myself and so I did in the best way I knew how and it wasn't difficult mentally. I was confused as to how people did find it difficult, I looked down upon those who had no self control. No willpower. I thought them lesser. On the mental level of desire, I was still such a dreamer. I let boys run away with my mind. I followed what I thought was a good path for me, trying to compromise between what I wanted for myself (being creative/artsy) and what the world was telling me to do (work a corporate job). My heart goes out to this girl. The one who loved boys. Who took so much pleasure in being what they needed. I wanted to be the one for each of them. I wanted to stay with them, I wanted to fulfill the role of dream girl for them, it was my favorite role to play. I loved to be admired in that way, but it was my own twisted game I played on myself. I changed myself to be their dream girl and then I wasn't myself. I lost myself and then I left because I was tired of being the girl they wanted me to be and I never offered them my real self and asked for acceptance. Gabby was right, I never offered them my real self because I didn't think that was good enough. I didn't accept myself. I wasn't confident in who I was. The finger gets pointed back at me. It is my responsibility to show Graham who I really am. I cannot bend myself to be who I think he wants me to be and then get upset about not being seen or understood. I must offer myself to him in an honest way.
this really is the root of it all. even my situation today. it is my lack of acceptance of the path. my lack of acceptance for what ive been through and the way the path has been laid. I've been fighting it. I've been fearing it. I've been ____ing it. I have not shown it full acceptance and love. I've seen it as an obstacle. There is still energy to be shifted around this and it doesn't happen overnight. I accept myself for what happened today. I love myself for what happened today. I see the intelligence behind the way situations were handled today. I turned to food because its the only thing I know, a substance that my whole body and my brain has been used to reaching for. I cannot hold it against myself. I cannot start a war inside of myself for something that was the only way today. The only way my poor system could cope. I love my body as it is, as it sits here and now. My body has been through the trauma of me stuffing it full and it has still rebounded time and time again. My body holds me even when I dont care or ask to be held. I have 4 limbs. I have good cardio. I feel vital. Its hard to think I could look upon this body with disdain. This body that has done so much for me. I shower it with love and understanding. I apologize to you body and to you the universe that gave it to me for ever objectifying you. for trying to morph and manipulate, for simplifying your presence as something for other people. for other people to see and judge me for. you are so much more than that. you are infintly more than that. you are my connection to this world. and I love you so much. Im so sorry I ever reduced your value to be anything less than completely miraculous. the way your natural processes keep me going to experience this life is something to be so cherished. In theory, people tell you to love your body and believe in yourself. and in theory, I believed them. but it wasn't a felt sense. it was known idea. today the pain point was lit up in neon lights. look here! more love here needed! please sit, please look at me. look at the unhealed wounds. hold them up and sing holy holy. my body was asking for more love. this whole time, my body was asking for more love.

its kinda far away from what i expected it to turn out, strayed a bit in the middle, but its here once again. as always, sorry for the lack of cut, mobile tumblr isnt that fancy. enjoy.
⚠️cw: few mentions of blood, nothing too explicit; maybe some emotional neglect? not much though. much lighter than my last poem. still have some grammar mistakes, but theyre there on purpose, i refuse to write I'm instead or im.
Tumblr media
i had a normal childhood, you know.
used to be that one kid that get an A and stay sad for an entire week that it wasnt an A+. used books to escape from reality since i read my first letter, so the first time i read romeo and juliet, i was 5 years old. it was an old copy with some eldritch language that i couldnt quite grasp at the time, too many details passed unnoticed.
but besides the introversion and shyness that appeared out of the blue when i turned 4, it was pretty common. my parents never laid a finger in me, nor threatened to do so.
how i wish they had.
of course, i never gave them reasons to do so, but many do it without reason, let alone a good one, so sometimes i wonder what would have happened if i wasnt too tame.
if i had questioned more. had complained more. screamed and cried and asked for more. i wonder how long would it be before they had lost their temper.
pretty long, thats for sure. they were always so controlled.
i guess, thats the entire point now. the stoicism to which i was exposed since birth couldnt make much good for a child. never experiencing the bad sides means the good sides were, too, hidden; never being hit also means that i never felt desired.
see, i did feel loved sometimes. when my mom brushed my hair before school. when my dad would let me mess with his hair while he was watching the news. when theyd both hold my hands when we were walking to the market to buy some bread for dinner.
but there was a time where it all would come to an end. i couldnt feel desired when mom decided she was done brushing my hair, and i had to decide between learn how to take care of it or cut it at the age of 6. and i certainly didnt feel desired when my dad wouldnt lift and carry me anymore at the age of 8. (he couldnt for health reasons, but of course my 8 years old self could never compreehend it).
now im 19 years old. since i was 14, ive been craving something, but could never get close enough to see what it was - or i was too aware of it, and therefore too scared of not being able to hide that side of mine. i took out the blanket that hid it, some time ago, and came to the conclusion that i crave suffering.
not the emotional kind, that i have a lot. you cant go unharmed from "gifted child, parents pride and joy" to "burnt out queer young adult".
i crave the physical counterpart of it. i crave a reason, a good one, something that justifies the intense unhappyness, this indifference and apathy thats always creeping around the corners, hiding in plain sight.
i crave broken arms and black eyes, i crave bruises and crooked noses and raw knuckles. i crave a few broken teeth and a blood-red stained record in school, with a few too many fights and a few too little good grades.
i crave the disappointment and the freedom it brings when no one expects nothing else from you.
i crave intenseness and adrenaline. i crave jumpscares and fist fights, and damn right, i crave pain.
Tumblr media
hope you liked it, all feedback is welcome, please like and reblog if you enjoyed, makes a lot of difference for the artist. tell me if i forgot some kind or trigger/content warning or tag, im kinda new to this.
-> you can request a story, if you have something in your head that you think its too weird to ask other authors, i love weirdness and will write for anyone and anything that i can read about so. pretty much every existent character :) thats it for today bye

“You’ll have your own room,” Mitch explained, glancing at you out of the corner of his eyes. “That’ll be nice, right?”
You nodded your head slowly, rubbing at your forehead as you watched the outskirts of the city bleed into the towering office buildings and quaint streets lined with brownstones and historic homes. You had never been out of your hometown and Philadelphia seemed like a daunting change of pace.
Your life up until this point had been confined to a perimeter that contained your house and school.
“And you’ll never have to live through another one of those floods.” Mitch rambled — he’d rambled a lot since he had picked you up nearly four hours ago. “That had to be scary.”
You shrugged, picking at the hem of your tee. “Not the worst thing to happen to me.” You admitted, glancing out the window again. “My mom acted like the world was going to end because she couldn’t get out of the house. Like goddamn mom, people are dead.”
Mitch cleared his throat, “I’m not looking to parent you, but you know Darla and I have a Tate—“
“Shit.” You laughed quietly, covering your mouth. “I’ll try to curb the cussing.”
“Thanks.” He nodded his head. “And you know Darla and I are here for you, if you ever need anything.”
“I’m not looking to be a burden, promise.” You told him, winding your finger through a lock of hair as you watched out the window. “You don’t even have to feed me.”
“I’m not going to let you go hungry.” Mitch gave you a look. “Come on now, kid.”
“I can cook!” You scrunched up your nose. “I just don’t want you or Darla to feel like I’m taking advantage of your hospitality.” The last thing you wanted was to become your mother. Leeching off other people.
“You’re my sister.”
“We share a father,” You pointed out. “Be glad you don’t share my mother.”
“Dad told me plenty of stories.” Mitch grimaced, “I don’t know how you made it out of there in one piece, kid.”
“I might have nine toes. I haven’t counted lately.” You snorted, “Think there’s a black market in toes for coke?”
“Jesus Christ.” He grimaced, before quickly changing the subject. “That’s the school you’ll be going to.”
You peered out the window at the school, “Better than Richland.”
“It’s where Darla went. It’s a great preparatory school for girls.”
“An all-girls school?” You groaned, crossing your arms across your chest.
“You're more likely to get a scholarship there.”
“Fine.” You couldn’t pass up an opportunity like that. You still had the two and a half years of school to finish before you could think about college — but a scholarship would help. “I don’t need any distractions anyways.”
Mitch gave you a curious look, “Kid, you’re allowed to be a teen, you know. Don’t hold back from living just because you’re staying with us.”
“It’s not that,” You chewed on the inside of your cheek. “I’ve never really been a kid or whatever. I don’t plan on regressing just because I don’t have to deal with the witch.”
“Dad always said you were wise beyond your years,” Mitch remarked, turning down Chestnut Street and parking the car in front of a gorgeous brick townhome.
“You live here?”
“Darla’s folks gifted it to her when they moved out west,” Mitch explained to you as he put the car in park.
“Oh so, rich-rich.” You gave him an amused look. “Looking at you, pitching out of your league.”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah.” Mitch rolled his eyes, climbing out of the car and shutting the car door behind him.
You climbed out of the car, moving around to the trunk as he unlocked it. “I really do appreciate this, Mitch. I’ll do whatever you guys need me to do. Vacuuming, dishes, I’ll even babysit — I can’t promise I’m good.”
“Kid, you’re family not the new nanny.”
“New?”
“We’re in-between currently.”
“Jesus.” You whistled. “Well, I promise not to bring the property value down. It’ll be like I’m not even there. Promise.”
Mitch shook his head, “I look forward to you warming up to us. This can be your home, kid. You don’t have to act like a visitor.”
You shrugged your shoulders as you slung your duffel bag over your shoulder. “I tried the ‘home’ thing, but dad’s dead... so.”
“I’m just saying, you can put down roots.” Mitch pulled the cardboard box out of the trunk, before he started up the stairs to the townhouse. Darla must’ve been waiting just behind the door, because she swung it open the second your feet hit the stop.
“Look at you!” Darla grinned broadly at you, “You’ve shot up like a weed since the wedding.”
“We saw each other at the funeral,” You reminded her with an awkward laugh, tucking your hair behind your ear as you warily looked around their house. “But thanks.”
Mitch was about thirteen years older than you. You had seen him only a handful of times over the course of your life. His mother, Patrice, had always been kind to you — your father and Patrice were the type of divorced parents you’d wished your own mother had been. They were still friends, up until his death.
Before the funeral, the last time you had seen Mitch was at his wedding. He’d wanted you to actually be part of the wedding, but someone had gone postal at the thought of someone else’s family liking you. You were also only ten — what could you do about anything?
“Tate, sweetheart, this is your aunt.” Darla crouched down beside the little boy. “Say hello.”
“Hello!”
“Hi, Tate.” You smiled at him. “And how old are you?”
“Almost six.” He beamed, “Do you like cars?”
You shrugged, “They get you from point a to point b.”
“He’s been collecting Hot Wheels.” Mitch explained to you, “I’m sure he’ll show you his collection.”
Tate nodded excitedly. “Do you wanna see them now?”
“Oh—“
Mitch ruffled Tate’s hair, “Actually buddy, I’m sure your aunt would love to see them, but we need to get her unpacked. Alright?”
You glanced at Mitch before looking back to Tate, “You can show me after dinner.”
“Why don’t you go play out back?” Darla suggested, sending Tate down the hallway. “He’s been so excited about having someone to play with.”
“I see.” You nodded, your eyes flickering around the entryway, back towards the living room area. It was different to see a house that was put together. They had nice pieces of furniture and none of them were broken or unusually stained.
Mitch cleared his throat, “If you want to, of course. Six-year-old boys can be quite rambunctious.”
You offered a strained smile, “I’m happy to help, like I said.”
“Do you need help with anything from the car?” Darla questioned, clasping her hands together. “That can’t be all you broug—“
Mitch made a gesture to silence her, which you caught out of the corner of your eyes and you couldn’t help but laugh.
“This is all I have,” You gestured between your duffel bag and the box he held. “I promised I wouldn’t take up too much room.”
“Speaking of your room,” Darla grinned at you. “I hope you don’t hate purple. I went a little overboard once Mitch brought up you moving in.”
She led you up a flight of stairs lined with family pictures, which led to a hallway of bedrooms.
“Ours is at the end of the hall, beside Tate’s. You’re over here.” Mitch explained, pushing open the doorway that led to a bedroom that was at least double what your room had been before.
“Wow.” You breathed out as you stepped inside, holding your duffel bag close to you as you looked around. “Guys, I told you I didn’t need much, this feels…”
“Homey?” Darla questioned. “That’s what I was going for.”
You put on a smile as you nodded your head. You knew you had to be grateful. Mitch didn’t have to give you a place to live. Sure, your dad had wanted it, but that didn’t mean he had to.
You were emancipated from your mother now, you could go anywhere — live…. anywhere. Realistically, you had three options; your mother’s, Mitch’s, or the street.
“Homey… is a great word.” You threw your duffle bag down on the foot of the bed, watching as Mitch sat the cardboard box with your few personal items down on the floor.
“You’ll be starting at Girls’ High next week.” Darla explained. “We can go shopping for your uniform this weekend. That’ll give you a few days to settle into your new life here.”
“Thank you,” You told her with a slightly more sincere smile. “Thank you both.”
Mitch scratched at the back of his neck, “Yeah, well, it’s what dad would’ve wanted.”
“I miss him.”
“Me too.” He nodded. “Alright, well we will give you a chance to settle in. Dinner is usually around six.”
Darla smiled at you, “No pressure. You can join us or I can bring a plate up. I know things have been a bit chaotic for you.”
You tucked your hair behind your ears and nodded, “You don’t have to make dinner for me. I would be happy with a cheese sandwich.”
She shook her head, “I won’t hear of that. I’ll bring it up to you. How’s that sound?”
“Good.” You kicked off your shoes and sank down on the side of your bed. It was a real bed. Matching sheets, a mattress topper, and nice metal headboard.
It looked new, which really was a novelty.
You waited until Mitch and Darla could be heard walking down the steps, before you sank back on the bed and finally relaxed.
You didn’t know how long it would take you to really be relaxed. Being on edge had kept you alive this long. But it was a feat not to give into the urge to grab the chair that sat at the vanity and wedge it under the doorknob.
You covered your face with your hands, letting out a heavy sigh as you let the reality of your new life settle in.
Next week would mark a new beginning. A new school, a new chance to be someone. You weren’t beholden to anyone but yourself now. If you failed, it was your own fault. You weren’t trapped under the shadow of your mother.
Though, the thought of having to wear a uniform until you graduated sounded like bullshit.
You pushed yourself back upright, looking around the room for the folder you’d spotted sitting on the vanity. You climbed off the bed to retrieve the fold. It was white and yellow, with the school seal set in the center. Darla had clearly gone to great lengths filling everything out for you — the forms were mostly filled in, save for your name and signature where it was necessary.
Apparently, you had just missed the father-daughter dance.
You closed the folder and sat it back on the vanity, before you retreated back to the bed to collect the cardboard box. You didn’t have much to unpack.
A framed picture of you and your father that had spent the better part of its existence hidden from your mother’s sight; the trophy you won freshman year for the science fair; three of your favorite books; and bedside alarm clock.
Aside from that, you had only taken the clothes you wore most often, not even bothering to worry about other seasons. You had enough money to buy new clothes in the winter.
And with uniforms for school — you didn’t have to worry about other classmates judging you for repeating outfits.
School was just a means to an end. Get good grades, get a scholarship, and do something worthwhile. Something that would actually help someone.
Your mother had screamed at you that you were worthless — that you would never amount to anything because you were ungrateful — more times than you cared to recall. You had to prove her wrong. One day, she’d see that her daughter had amounted to something. Not because of her, but in spite of her.
 ——
“How did you sleep last night?” Darla questioned as you joined her in the kitchen, sitting down at the kitchen table across from Tate.
“The bed was super comfortable,” You offered, preferring not to tell her that you hadn’t slept at all. Though there were bags under your eyes that told a different story.
You had slept for an hour — maybe two. You couldn’t relax, despite how hard you had tried. You had gone to sleep on a comfortable bed, with clean sheets, and a full stomach, but sleep just didn’t come to you.
The only reason you slept at all was because you had gotten up and put the chair in front of the door. The house was quiet — there were no addicts down the hall getting high, no yelling, no chaos, but your mind told you there could be.
Darla sat a glass of juice down in front of you, “Do you drink coffee?”
“Yeah,” You nodded, taking a sip of the juice. “Cream and sugar if you don’t mind.”
“Sweetheart, I don’t mind at all. I know you think you’re a burden to us, but I’m happy to have you here. Really.”
“I don’t want to be a charity case.” You told her, taking another sip of your juice as Mitch walked down the stairs and joined all of you in the kitchen.
“Well, you’re not one. So don’t worry.”
“Hey, kid.” Mitch gave your shoulder a pat as he walked past the table. “Didn’t know if you’d come down.”
You shrugged, “The smell of coffee was too strong of a temptation.”
“Do you have plans for the day?” He questioned as he poured himself a cup of coffee.
Tate rolled one of his model cars across the table to you and you turned it around and rolled it back.
“I thought I might check out a book shop we passed yesterday. What does a normal Monday look like for you?”
“I’ve got work,” Mitch explained before gesturing to Darla. “She’s got her committees.”
“Committees?”
“I’m on the board of the Philadelphia Museum of Art,” Darla offered. “And the Daughters of the American Revolution.”
“Don’t forget the Trocadero,” Mitch supplied, pressing a kiss to Darla’s cheek, before he circled back around to the table. “She’s very connected to the art scene here in the city. If you have any interest in the arts, I’m sure she can find you a job or an internship.”
“I don’t know what I want to do,” You admitted, playing with the end of your braid as you stared down at the glass of juice in front of you. “I never thought I’d get out of Johnstown.”
“Hopefully you can figure that out,” Darla said as she handed you your cup of coffee. “I didn’t know what I wanted to do,” She told you, “But I found a passion for art in high school.”
“Does it pay well?”
“Oh,” Darla exchanged a look with Mitch. “Technically I’m a volunteer.”
“Ah.” You frowned. Given the house you were eating breakfast in and what Mitch had said last night — Darla had been born with a silver spoon in her mouth. “As nice as that sounds, I really need something somewhat lucrative.”
Mitch day down beside Tate, across from you, “You’ve got plenty of time to figure out what you want to be. Don’t grow up too fast.”
You smiled a little, “I’ll try not to.” You drummed your fingers against the side of your mug, “What do you do again, Mitch?”
“I’m a real estate broker.”
Your brows furrowed together, “I have no idea what that is.”
“I work for a real estate agency as a manager.” Mitch clarified, sipping at his coffee. “If you wanted to work in real estate, I could get you an internship.”
“I don’t know if I could sell houses,” You made a face. “I’m just going to focus on high school right now. Work on getting a scholarship.”
Tate rolled his car across the table again, “Do you like my car?”
You picked the car up and examined it, “I do. It’s very cool.” You rolled it back to him, glancing at Mitch. “I’m pretty self-sufficient. I'm sure I’ll figure out what my life’s calling is.”
“Philadelphia has so much going on. It’s very up-and-coming in areas.” Darla told you. “You could make a whole life for yourself here in the city.”
“Maybe.” You took a sip of coffee then. Now that you were free — there was a whole world of possibilities. You didn’t have to stay in Pennsylvania for the rest of your life.
You could go anywhere, be anything, make a name for yourself.
Mitch and his little family were great, but you didn’t feel any attachment to them. You didn’t feel any attachment to much of anything, frankly. Maybe you were broken. Maybe you’d been through so much shit with your mother, that you’d just shut down emotionally.
You knew what love was; you even knew what home and family was supposed to feel like, but you weren’t sure you had it in you to feel those things. It was like falling asleep on your hand — you could feel touch, but it didn’t feel real.
Maybe that’s what your mother felt. Maybe Rebecca was the way she was because there was a big black hole where her heart was supposed to be.
But you weren’t going to let yourself become her. Maybe one day you could feel something.
Wouldn’t that be something?

Tumblr media
The police officer led you into the station and ordered you to sit in the hard metal chair next to his desk. The man sat down across from you, informing you that he was going to call your father as he picked up the phone.
You nodded absentmindedly, not really listening to what the cop was saying- you already knew what was going to happen.
You swallowed dryly, knowing that you had screwed up. You gripped the chair tightly, your nails digging into the cushion, as you strained to hear the conversation.
Maybe, just maybe Dean would be the one to pick up.
“Hello, is this Mr. Winchester?” The officer said as someone picked up the phone.
“Yes, can I help you?” John responded impatiently.
Your heart dropped immediately recognizing your father’s impatient and irritated tone.
“Yes,” The officer glanced over at you as he explained, “I’m calling about an issue concerning your daughter, Y/N, she’s gotten herself in some trouble. We’ve decided to let her off with a warning, but we still need you to come down to the station,”
Your grip on the chair tightened as you waited to hear your father’s response.
Nothing.
“Sir?” The officer asked.
“I’ll be there in a few minutes,” John said coldly.
You winced, you could already tell, he was furious.
“Thank you, sir-" Click. John hung up. The officer pulled the phone back, a little surprised that the man had just hung up on him like that. He shook it off and turned back to you, “Your father will be here soon,”
You nodded silently, mentally cursing yourself for getting caught.
It was stupid.
All you had been trying to do was get your little brother Dean a gift for his birthday.
A stupid car magazine and a candy bar.
A lame excuse for a present, it wasn’t even a good gift- you had no clue what normal 9 year old boys liked to do for fun, but it didn’t matter because neither did Dean.
It was a dumb thing to do, and you knew that Dean wasn’t expecting anything, but you had felt bad. This year, John hadn’t even mentioned Dean’s birthday- he must’ve of forgotten. When the cashier saw you walk out of the store with a candy bar sticking out of your back pocket and a copy of Car and Driver Magazine stuffed not-so-discreetly under your t-shirt, he yelled for you to stop. You got scared and you ran, so he called the cops.
It wasn’t like you hadn’t stolen anything before, but this time had been different.
The things you usually stole were always necessary. Just a few pieces of bread or an apple or two so you and your brothers could get by while your father was on a hunt.
You looked up at the sound of the door swinging open. Your father strode in and you immediately dropped your eyes back to the floor, not daring to look at him. He nodded emotionlessly to the officer a a greeting, sitting himself into the seat next to you.
“I’m afraid I caught your daughter stealing from the market on the corner earlier today,”
John stayed silent as the officer explained.
“I’ve spoke to her, and we both think a warning is sufficient enough-”
“What did she steal?” John questioned, interrupting the officer.
“A candy bar and and a magazine,” the man responded, seemly a little intimidated by John.
You didn’t look up, but you could feel your father’s angry glare burning into your back, “So, it’s just a warning- does that mean I can take her home now?” John asked, already standing up.
“Umm-“ The officer’s hesitation received an intimidating stare from John. The officer shifted uncomfortably, loosening his collar, “Uh, Y-yes, you’re both free to go. Just no more warnings,”
You nodded, but you weren’t really listening to what the man was saying. You were trying to prepare yourself for the punishment you were going to face when you got back to the motel room.
John put his hand on your shoulder, guiding you out the door and into the Impala. He didn’t say anything on the ride back to the motel. He stared straight ahead, his knuckles turning white as he harshly gripped his steering wheel. He skidded into the parking lot and turned the Impala off. He opened the door, not even glancing your way, “Get inside,” he ordered.
You did as you were told, following him into the dirty motel room. Sam sat quietly coloring while Dean stood at the little table pouring cereal into two bowls he had set out for him and his little brother.
“Dad!” Sam called, a smile across his face.
John didn’t even glance towards him, he stared down at Dean sternly, “Take your brother and leave. Y/N and I are going to have a talk,”
Dean gave you a concerned look, “Dad, I just make me and Sammy dinner-” It was a flimsy excuse, but he tried to help you.
“I said get out.” John repeated, more force behind his words this time.
“Y-Yes sir,” Dean nodded, quickly dragging Sam outside with him.
The second the door shut, John turned, glaring down at you, “You interrupted my hunt,” he said coldly.
You opened your mouth, trying to find anything to say to calm your father down.
“You could’ve been arrested- you could’ve gotten me arrested,” he barked, taking a step towards you. “All for a fucking candy bar and a dumb magazine?” He fumed. You winced when he took another step towards you.
You stumble over your words, “I was... I just wanted to-“ John smacked his hand across your cheek. You stopped mid-sentence, feeling the hot sting on your face. You winced, your hand immediately reaching to the spot he hit.
“Do you really think I care?” He snarled and you took a step back, refusing to let the tears welling in your eyes fall.
You didn’t respond- afraid that if you said anything you’d only end up saying something that would make it worse for you.
He lunged forward, shoving you backwards, hard. You stumbled back, your hands flailing around as they tried to find something to stop your fall. You fell onto the ground, smacking your head on the dusty couch on the way down.
“I asked you a question!” John roared. You held your breath, trying to forget about the splitting pain in your head as you looked up at your father towering above you.
“No,” you shook your head, “No-No Sir,” you quickly corrected. You pulled your hand away from your throbbing temple, grimacing when you saw blood.
Your father didn’t seem to care, “If you ever get caught doing anything like that again, you’re out,” he said, his glare never faltering.
“I’m out?” You asked cautiously, still careful to not upset him.
“Out of the family,” he said bluntly, “I’ll take Sam and Dean and leave you wherever you stand,”
You knew your father could be harsh, but this was a whole other level. You wanted to scream at him and hit him back, but you found yourself nodding and replying, “Yes Sir,” in a hallow voice.
He ordered you to clean yourself up, muttering something about going to get a drink before he left the room and your brothers ran back inside.
You turned away, trying to hide the cut on your head and the red handprint across your cheek.
“Y/N/N, Com’ere,” Dean said, taking a few steps towards you.
You didn’t face him. You didn’t want to worry him, you were fine. Dean grabbed your shoulder, forcing you to face him.
His eyes filled with pity for you as he looked at your wounds, “Sammy, get a washcloth and some water,” Dean told him as he continued inspecting your face.
You watched him, the worry and anger etched into his small face. He was only nine years old, but he was aged well beyond his years, “Dean, it’s not that bad,” you pushed his hand away, but he ignored your protests and started wiping away some of the blood with the washcloth Sam had retrieved.
“What happened?” Sam asked curiously, looking up at you with wide eyes.
“Nothing Sammy,” you and Dean said in unison.
“But-“
“Go to bed Sammy, I need to talk to Y/N/N,” Dean ordered.
The two of you sat in silence for a few moments as dean continued to work on your face. He wiped across one of the cuts on your face, causing you to wince.
“Sorry,” Dean apologized as he kept working.
You shook your head, laughing a little to yourself, “You know, I’m the big sister. I’m supposed to be taking care of you and Sammy, not the other way around,”
“You take care of us enough,” Dean assured, “We’ve gotta be ther for you too,” the room fell back into silence besides Sam’s soft snoring. “What’s Dad mad about this time?” Dean said quietly after a few moments.
You sighed as Dean finished bandaging the last cut on your face, “I screwed up... I almost got arrested,”
Dean furrowed his brows, “What’d you do? Did you steal something? I thought we had enough food-”
“We do. I just,” you sighed, “I was trying to get you a birthday present. I mean, dad hadn’t said anything about it all day so I just figured he forgot. It was just a car magazine and a candy bar, but wanted to at least try to make it a little special for you,”
Guilt washed over Dean’s face, “Y/N, I didn’t need anything I-”
“Dean, I know,” you said giving him a soft smile, “And this isn’t your fault, it’s mine for getting caught and it’s dad’s for being such an asshole,”
Deans eyes widened at the word, not used to hearing you speak poorly about your father.
You sighed bringing your hand up to cup his face, “Dont worry Dean, one day I’ll get us out of here. Me, you, and Sammy can get our own place that isn’t some nasty motel and we can do whatever we want. No hunts, no danger, no drunk dad, just us. And we can be happy,”
Dean nodded, a smile spreading across his face at the thought.
“Happy Birthday Dean,” you whispered pulling your younger brother into a tight hug.
“Thanks Y/N,” he said, wrapping his arms around your neck and laying his head down on your shoulder.

so ngl I went a little ham on her intro so if you tough it out and read the whole way through??? amazing. legendary. iconic. but im hype for this so slap that like and we can get to plotting! also I think we can all agree that discord is far superior or messaging so hmu ( vee#9986 ) !
( mishti rahman, 21, cis female, she/her ) did you just see EVA ROMANOV on the quad ?? aren’t they an ARCHITECTURE major or something ?? i swear the JUNIOR hates me because they ignored me in the dining hall. if i had to describe them i’d say something like: a mess of clothes covering a white arm chair, a fresh bouquet wrapped in newspaper, soft smiles & layered gold jewelry.
lbr her pinterest will describe her better then i ever will so why not save some time and check out her vibe
thems the facts
the youngest of four children with three older brothers.
her parents met in russia. her mom was an american student studying abroad on an exchange program and met her dad at uni and they fell hard and fast. after graduation he basically followed her back to the states
while her dad was on track to become a professor in the russia, school was much more expensive and competitive in america and his english was pretty much non existent. he took a job working construction to hopefully save enough to finish his education but as the kids started coming around it became more of a pipe dream then a reality for him
mom got a job as a language teacher
all the kids speak russian bc both parents speak it and it’s just easier for their dad bc it’s his native language
two of her brothers work in the trades. hvac and a mechanic. the youngest brother, aleksandr and the closest to eva played soccer all the way through college but it wasn’t enough to land him a professional contract so he’s teaching
eva is studying architecture and girl is not only passionate but damn good at it
she spent years dancing growing up and was actually pretty good at it but her passion lies with design and architecture
personality and bits
she’s basically a combination of soft girl and feisty. she’s vivacious and full of life but she has no problem standing up for herself (3 brothers ppl) or telling someone theyre being a dick.
can be ruled by her emotions lol if she’s angry you’ll know it. if she’s sad, or happy or in love.. it’s all over her face ok i have a lot of feelings about this
makes her bed every morning but leaves a pile of clothes on the plush arm chair in the corner lol
cries when she’s frustrated. which makes her more frustrated
a romantic. probably falls in love a few times a day tbh lol she just wants to be loved and cared for ok leave her alone
loves being outside. going for walks threw the park or throwing a ball with her dog or just having her morning coffee outside is just.. chefs kiss
def the type to make extra food for her friends. like she’ll bake something sweet and drop it off at their doors.
the type who likes to visit the farmers market and buy up all kinds of fresh fruits and veggies
the type to share food at a restaurant. like she’ll probably steal from your plate but give you something from hers in return
always tries to have fresh flowers on her counter. some come from her performances and others are just ones she picked up from a street vendor when she was out on a walk
has an adorable cavapoo puppy named charlie. he’s so freaking cute ok he’s just so happy and excited his tail is always waging and he’s always trying to cuddle and lick people ok he just thinks everyone is his friend
lives off campus in one of the apartments
works at the flower shop so if you need a bouquet?? she’s your girl!
wanted connections:
girls!! give her girls to rally behind and to support and girls to do the same for her. emergency ice cream sessions after bad days and trading clothes and makeup and offering up (sometimes terrible lol) dating advice
skinny love. trading smiles and stealing glances when the other isn’t looking. real cute shit
right person wrong time. gimme the pain.
crush. someone she’s just got a silly crush on lol it doesn’t have to turn into anything but just someone she’s enamoured with lol also someone who’s crushing on her too
ex’s. the most angst the better tbh. also!! maybe someone she dated who she had it bad for but after getting together the fantasy just falls apart bc they aren’t who you thought they were kinda deal?
rivals. not everyone is gonna vibe with you so for whatever reason these two just don’t get along. maybe they do stupid little things that they know will piss the other one off like playing their music too loud or sending each other gag gifts just to see their reaction lol
enemies. someone who really gets under her skin. someone who’s arrogant or cold or mean or whatever really and she’s having none of it
unlikely pairing. whether it’s a friendship or something more (!!!!!!) but from the outside it just seems like they don’t match. they seem to be complete opposites but that’s exactly why it works. i’m not saying i’d sell my soul for this but..
neighbours/roomies. she's in the off campus apartment buildings so maybe they live next to each other or on top of each other or whatever. do they get along? do they ignore the shit out of one another? do they leave their doors open and come and go as they please?
a frequent customer at the flower shop?? like someone who always comes and orders flowers for their mom or gf or friend of even just sends them as pranks and she helps them pick out flowers that mean silly things?? PLS
brotps/ride or die
tinder matches/hook ups. girl’s gotta get fed right?
situationship!!
hateship!!
i’m working on a wc tag bc it’s always for fun that way

The Grind- Chapter 26
Tumblr media
“You sure about this place, babe? How come you don’t just wanna grab some coffee from The Grind and go back to crash on the couch at home?” I asked as Colton pulled open my passenger side door to walk hand-in-hand with me down the sidewalk.
Luckily, I cautioned Tia’s persistent advice at dinner last night, and limited myself to only three glasses of wine, and one measly shot of Patron. So, Colton’s 7 a.m. feisty bite to the exposed skin of my cheek under the sheet as my wake-up call, wasn’t ruined with a blistering hangover. He was adamant about taking me to some diner he’d heard about from one of the guys at the bike shop to try their German potato pancakes that he was just so certain I’d love, and I was a sucker for a languid, sweatpants breakfast date every now and then.
“It’ll be fine, Livvy. Let’s enjoy some good grub, then I promise we’ll squeeze in a nap before we head to the gym later. Deal?”
He kissed the fingers that were interlocked with his own, then smiled mischievously as we slipped inside, escaping the rustling winds of the morning. We didn’t stop at the ‘wait to be seated sign’, instead Colt scanned the room, peeping over the full booths and tables around the room.
“C’mon, I see an empty table over here, babe.” he pointed, tugging me not so gently to the left of the hostess stand.
“Colton, we have to wai-,” I started to argue with his bullish, bizarre behavior, but before I could state my objections, reality slapped me across the face.
Seated with their backs to us, both sipping on a black cup of the house blend, were two Indiana natives, very far from home. Mom turned around to investigate the bustling approach over her shoulder, and stood to push herself from the seat with an unsure smile.
“Wh-..how did you guys get here? What’s going on?” I babbled wrapping a halfhearted, confused embrace around her neck, searching for an explanation from someone in the party of 3.
“It was all sweet, Colton, Liv honey. He arranged the whole thing. He insisted we come.” mom confessed, admiring Colton with a look of appreciation.
“I wanted ‘em here to see you fight, baby. And to see the house and everythin’. They got here yesterday afternoon, and I got them all set up at Westin, and ate dinner with the both of ‘em last night to get familiar.”
The pieces started to connect then. Why Tia was so snarky with keeping me away from the bottle, why Colton was so incessant about dragging me out of the house before 9 a.m. this morning, and why there was a button-down dress shirt discarded into the hamper when I did laundry after a late return home last night. I internally tipped a hat to his successful undercover moonlighting, though.
“Kid wouldn’t take a dime from us, either. Paid for the tickets, a ride from the airport, and our room, too. Seems we owe this one, sweetheart.” I heard dad say as I took one of the empty seats across the table from he and mom.
Their visit may not have been on my terms, or my timing, but I did feel complete having them here. Although there was a suitcase of nerves that landed on that plane along with their arrival to Pittsburgh, it just felt, right. The four of us, together, all in one place had me swelling with a sense of gladness and completion, all courtesy of the mysterious man in blue seated to my right.
“I can’t believe you did all this, Ritter. I expect a play-by-play when we get home, ya’ big box of lies.” I leaned to kiss him sincerely.
“I’m pretty impressed with myself to tell the truth.”
The meal consisted of bacon all around, mom whining about the cold temperature, those potato cakes Colton was correct about me losing my mind over, and a general calm, steady flow of conversation. I was impressed at how normal, and interested Tony and Liz seemed to be the entire time. Dad never brought up a single utterance of basketball, and mom pounded me with questions about my match, and what it would be like. I felt a connection so genuine that had been minuscule for so many years, and I knew Colton played a tremendous role in the healing psychological wounds.
“You guys should come by the house and spend the afternoon with us. All my stuff is moved in, and it doesn’t look like a construction site anymore. Mom, we could swing by the food market to get what you need for gran’s jambalaya for dinner, too!”
My inner, overly-eager, rambunctious childlike manner took me over, and I instantly began bulleting out an itinerary of events. I’d have to take mom to meet Andrew, and she would die over the Americana at The Grind. And dad, maybe Colton and I could take him to the trolley museum and a PNC park tour in the next couple of days.
“Livvy, we’ve got to try and get to the gym for a few hours today. It’s down to crunch time, babe,” Colt reminded me with apologetic tone. “But, we can check them out their room, and settle ‘em in at the house first, okay?”
Of course, the gym. This week wouldn’t be one of family dinners and touristy adventures with the fight countdown fuse burning low. And now, I had even more work to do down at Temple Fitness with my parents in attendance. The weight of potentially letting Colton, Tia, and the rest of my corner down was sickening enough, now add the weight of Tony and Elizabeth and you’ve got one wound tight Liv. Perfectionism is a weakness not all can relate to, and of that they should be eternally thankful. I failed my Warrior teammates and the rest of my small-town not so many years ago, and that disappointment in itself nearly disconnected me entirely. I may have grown and evolved in many ways since relocating to the Pittsburgh, but the will to please my loved ones was a quality I would undoubtedly live with until my final breath.
“You do whatever needs to be done today, sweetheart. I know these next few days are crucial, so don’t mind us. We’ll take whatever time you can give us.” my mom pats my hand from across the table, and shot and thoughtful smirk.
“We’re just happy to be here, Livvy. You’ve got a good one there.” My dad’s opinion of the man I loved was never considered to be a worry I had, but in that moment, I couldn’t have been more prideful in how truly wonderful Colton had been to them, and to me for organizing this little surprise.
After dragging my parents’ belongings up the front steps of our home, and leaving them the keys to my car in case they got the pangs to explore around a bit, Colton and myself dutifully reported for in for a session down to the gym. The last couple days I had been studying up on a submission move I really wanted to try out. The Omoplata essentially was a move to apply unbearable stress on the arm of your opponent, inevitably resulting in a tap out. Tia, nor Colton had introduced me to the technique, but it was one I had stumbled upon doing some research on my own one afternoon during some down time at the Pilot office. Having never actually seen it done in reality, I only had internet tutorials, and other martial arts circuit fights that had been posted online to educate myself.
Upon trucking into the somewhat crowded parking lot, and settling my duffle into a locker down the hall from the ring room, Tia had called to say something had soured in her stomach, and she wouldn’t be making it in to train with us today unless I wanted to mop up her throw-up. Naturally, I insisted she stay in and recover, leaving me in the hands of Colt.
“Grab the rope, let’s warm up for 10 minutes after you stretch, babe.” my handsome trainer instructed as he downed the settlings of a pre-workout drink at the bottom of his cup.
“Did you remember to tell dad about the construction on Liberty bridge in case they decide to venture out of the house?” My voice vibrated as I bounced with the whip-like jump rope.
“Yep, as we were walkin’ out the front door, Liv. Don’t worry, ‘ight? They’ll be fine. I gotta say though, I wasn’t expectin’ ya’ to be so thrilled about ‘em being here.”
I was fairly flabbergasted myself in that matter, but I had no explanation for my nervous excitement. I guess, maybe it was the common cliché of not knowing how much you in fact needed something, until you had it.
“Thank you, handsome. I really am glad you did all that. Although, I’m a little concerned with all the unsuspected sneaking around you were able to get away with.” I smirked, dropping the braided rope to adjust the tightness of my messy bun.
“It nearly got the best ‘a me lying to you like that, but it was for good reason, at least. Except, them being at the house every night for the next few days may turn out to be a little problem. Seein’ as their daughter can’t keep her greedy little hands off me & all…” he teased unnlacing his trainers to pull of his socks before we moved into the ring. He was knelt on one knee just a foot or two behind where I stood, then inched over in that crouched position to friskily bite the pert cheek of my backside, and grabbed a handful of the other.
I’d never get tired of those stout, mitt-like hands of his touching my body, and I let my head drop backward a bit to sigh into his touch. If by some unfortunate event, things between us happen to fall to pieces again, no man would ever live up to the bar set by the infamous Colton Ritter.
“I can manage a little self-control, you animal. Let’s make a bet on who caves in first, shall we?” I said, stepping over the middle rope of the mat.
“You better be careful playin’ with fire girl. You may get burned.”
Tumblr media
We had bounced around, grappling and rolling for nearly an hour already, with just a couple rushed breaks for water, and I still hadn’t built up the courage to try the move I had been so eager to crack at. I welcomed the respect that Colton had to never half-ass me when we did train one-on-one, however always extremely careful to make sure I was never harmed in any way. His insights, and words of wisdom related to the cage were something I considered to be a matchless gift, and I loved him eternally for offering it up.
Just as I was about to weigh the Omoplata to be the impossible, especially considering my mock opponent at the current time, Colton let down a wall, and broke his own most crucial ‘golden rule’ of fighting. He attempted to tangle me, but instead, mistakenly gave me his back, awarding me the perfect moment to pounce. I pinched his shoulder between the bones of my knees, then swung one leg hurriedly over his head. Colton’s arm was trapped between the center of my limbs, essentially hooked around my left thigh as I crossed my ankles. I flattened his chest and face to the mat with speed I didn’t know I had, and swung my legs to the side, easing into a squat with his helpless arm still locked in. The stretching pressure of his muscle grew the higher I raised, and defeated, Colton yelped out with a tap.
Instantly releasing, I tumbled to my back, and laid to rest with exasperating breaths. Executing the technique on an individual with such a powerful strength, was equally as exhausting on the attacker as the victim, and I could feel my blood tingling, and rushing through my veins like the Colorado rapids.
“I sure as hell don’t fuckin’ remember teachin’ you that, 2-1,” my captor said still face planted onto the canvas, almost cackling. “But you pulled it off with damn near perfection. I’m impressed, baby!”
“That one is just a little something I picked up on my own. Coach…” I replied, mounting his back to massage his shirtless shoulders.
Colton flipped, doing a 180 to now laying on his back, with me still atop him with a sweaty, rosy face.
“Oh, so she thinks she can pin me now, huh? Don’t get too comfortable up there, Elliott. You know I don’t do bottom.”

Don't know if you're still doing headcanon requests, but I had this idea for like a reincarnated Maeve (with no memory of her former life) and a Rowaelin son or daughter falling in love? *hides* Sorry if it's weird or something
hmmm I can try. So reincarnated maeve like valg possession, never quite gone, a dark sinister thing inhabiting a body or like a new person with maeve’s powers? i’ll see how I go….
sooo. let me try to get in this headspace….. a really short way they meet. it’s a love at first sight kinda thing.
__
- Rowaelin child has all these bright fire magic type powers, shining light of Orynth. Amazing with a sword skills and can shape shift, they are like the best things from their mum and dad. In adulthood and immortal but still like young- trying to make his own way in the world. - Rowaelin child name is RC for short for this HC.
- RC is in the Markets partoling or some such and sees someone who takes his breath away, a beautiful woman with her hair covered, shying away from the crowd. - He’s pulled to her, he can’t help it, something about her drags him to her. the other guards kinda just walk back to chat up some people selling silk.- When he approaches she quickly finishes up her sale and then tries to escape out the back, making RC get suspicious and his duty as a guard takes over jumps into action - he did some training with uncle chaol and has this strong sense of what is “right”. He is now pursuing someone who is trying to escape the law. - a chase ensues through the market, a dark shadow seems to come across the sky, but he’s not really paying attention, he turns a corner and she’s gone, the only thing that remains is some young girls selling perfume and incense burning. - he searches but everyone starts looking at him like hes gone a bit bonkers, he starts asking around for the dark haired woman but now people have really started gossiping.- so he leaves with his guard and goes back to the palace, has a meal with his fam, tries to get the woman out of his head with no luck. - time passes. nothing really happens, this woman he still thinks about on occasion, making reasons to visit the market and maintain the peace, but she’s never there. He starts to wonder if he just imagined this woman on an especially hot day or something. Maybe he let the fire in his veins get a little too warm. - One day his mum n dad are holding this procession thing to celebrate the people who have brought art and music and life back to terrasen and have a few people who have entered. - RC notices the woman straight away, the one he keeps dreaming of, shes near the back of the procession with a contingent from Xandria. But he’s stuck to the side on guard duty, so he can’t go and see her. he watches, unsure of what her role might be. It takes ages for people to be seen, Aelin and Rowan trying to talk to every attendant. He’s getting bored rolling his eyes, it seems like they are purposely making this whole thing take all day.
- finally he is replaced by another guard and he moves to explore the room, the different groups are now talking to and sharing food and good cheer from their homelands and he cannot see the girl. Frustrated, he goes to his parents and brothers and sisters to see some of the gifts bestowed upon the king and queen. - His ears perk up when Aelin starts telling him about the spider silk merchant they know as Falkan and how this stunning woven shawl for his pregnant sister was knitted by someone from Xandria. He starts to ask about the people the gift was from and checks that it smells right and that the fibres have no magic attached to them. He can’t sense anything and Aelin tells him he’s going mad and he needs to find someone and settle down or to explore the world and get out of Orynth. RC rolls his eyes. - He goes and searches the ballroom  now full to the brim and people laughing and drinking and partying as the sun sets and still can’t find this woman, so he confesses to his little sister - the one who is meant to be in bed and not watching the party from the rafters - that he might be going a little mad.- to which his little sister replies - “no you’re not, ive seen her and she keeps avoiding you”. RC is like - what? and lil sis laughs and says she’s been watching the woman move about the room purposefully avoiding him. then she eats her sweets and goes back to watching. - So RC decides to leave the room and wait for her in the front courtyard, they all have to leave the same way.
Rc is chilling, literally getting cold as people start to leave the palace, he finally spots her and approaches. She has this look of shock pass over her face, dark eyes absorbing all the light around and long black hair escaping from beneath her shawl. RC says hello - awkwardly. and she replies very shyly and then says its lovely to meet him and tries to escape with her friends. He asks her if she’s new to town, trying to decide if it is in fact the same woman from the market, she gets a little cagey and quiet, but her friend eventually says - she has a stall in the market and he should come by sometime when it is more appropriate.
So anyway…. basically RC has that love at first sight thing going on and the beautiful woman is wary, she has powers she doesn’t know how to yet control. they get together and everything is fine until Aelin finds out the powers that RC’s new lady friend has, and then there is like some sorta bad vibes between the fam and his girl because of the past they have.
sorry im tired and not thinking. but was this ok?

Back at the farm, Elijah walks, dazed but relaxed, back to the house. He checks behind him once, twice, to see if Rocky, who had followed him to the edge of his parents' property, still sits in the woods, wagging his tail at Elijah.
He doesn't.
"You look like you've seen a ghost," Amanda says, as she steps out the front door. The sun is shining, bright and warm already for eight in the morning, and Elijah shakes the woods off of him as best he can.
While he's grateful the beast is a silly witch in the woods, the idea that someone out there just... lives in abandoned shack in his woods unsettles him.
"Not a ghost," Elijah says. He sighs. "Has this town always been this fucking creepy?"
Amanda cocks her head and looks at her son with a smile, then steps down the front steps and towards the hay truck. "The city has made you suspicious, my love." She waves the keys in the air, doesn't look back to Elijah. “Come on. I believe you promised me a trip to the farmer’s market.”
Amanda fiddles with the radio, sings along off-key with wrong lyrics, and Elijah absently brushes the mud from his jeans.
The market’s covered in small tables set up underneath tents. Sunlight shines through the trees, and Elijah all but forgets about Viola and Penny and their tiny shack in the woods. The air is sweet with the smell of apple cider and turnovers, and Elijah follows his mother past table after table of pickles, jams, fresh produce, pies, breads…
He last went when he was seventeen. Far too long ago. The smell of it brings him back to being a child, before he made such a shitty decision, before Josh—
“Elijah, can you take these apples back to the car? I’ve a few more tables I’d like to visit.”
Three bags of apples, Elijah takes to the car, tripping over tree roots and uneven, muddied ground. Passes tables selling food that has his stomach aching with hunger.
Just before the market closes off, though, Elijah notes a man, sitting at his table, his head rested in his hand, elbow on the table, flipping through a book with a bored look on his face. Customers seem to ignore him, as though he’s not there. Candles in mason jars are neatly lined up in front of him, a solitary empty spot where someone has bought one.
He seems to notice Elijah staring, because he lifts his head, locks gazes with him. A smile grows across his face.
“Interest you in some homemade candles, sir?”
Elijah makes a face. “I’m not a sir.” He should keep going, but—the logo of the candles. Elijah drops one of the bags of apples to pick up a candle. “This creature,” he asks, smoothing his thumb over the creature—thick hair, glowing eyes, fingers like nails. “What is it?”
With a shrug, the man says, “The Beast of Easthallow. Local legend. Man a few hundred years ago, back when Easthallow was just a mining town, claims to’ve seen it.” He cocks his head at Elijah. “There’s a book about it, you know. Adapted from Victor East’s journals.”
“So it’s real?”
Laughing, the man leans back in his chair. “Suppose that matters on whether you’re a believer.” He nods his head at the candle. “Supposed to smell like wildflowers if you see it. S’what the candle’s based on.”
Overhead, the sun hides behind dark storm clouds. Around them, the hum of chatter from the farmer’s market quiets for a minute.
“Can give you a discount if you buy the book, too.” He holds up a book, small, a plain black cover, the words THE BEAST OF EASTHALLOW embellished across the front.
Assuming, for a minute, that Elijah believes any of this, other than a crazy couple of witches living in the woods, he’s unemployed. Setting the candle back down, Elijah says, “I don’t have any money.”
He eyes the apples. “How about a few of those? They came from the Richard Orchard, right?” Elijah shrugs. “Two apples, then.”
Fine. Curiosity peaked, Elijah digs into the bag at his feet for two of the apples, without bruises, one still with a stem and leaf, and hands them over. Their fingers brush together, and Elijah’s lips twitch up in a smile, just for a split second, before he pulls back.
“Do you plan on hunting it?” the man says, dropping the apples into a bucket beside him.
“…Hunting it?”
“We also sell candles that smell like rotten wood and wet dog. Supposed to attract the Beast.”
Elijah snorts. “A candle that smells like garbage?” He shakes his head. “I’ll go with the wildflowers.” Maybe he can gift it to his mother for Christmas.
“I’ll just get you a receipt,” the man says. Elijah hears someone walk up behind him, and turns his head, sees Amanda stepping around counters, a single, small loaf of bread under her arm.
She smiles down at the man, currently scribbling out a receipt for Elijah, and says, “Good morning, Grant. All well at home?”
He lifts his head, looking between the two of them for just a beat or two before he smiles, pleasant and wide, and his eyes—
Elijah clears his throat, averts his gaze. His heart aches, as he thinks of Sean, back home. What used to be home. He wonders if the man he’d found Sean with would be comforting, in Elijah’s absence, or if he’ll find Elijah leaving cause for celebration.
“…fine, Mrs. Flynn.” Grant flashes her a smile, hands over the receipt to Elijah and says, “Have a good day.”
Elijah reaches for the receipt, and Grant winks as their fingers touch again.
As they leave, Amanda weaves her arm around Elijah’s, says, “That wasn’t so bad, was it? And I see you picked up some items as well.” She nods to the book, the candle in the bag. “Didn’t think you were a candle sort.” She smiles, reaches into the bags, plucks out an apple, and begins chattering on.
Elijah glances at the receipt. Ten digits, scribbled at the bottom—give me a call, if you’d like.
At the farm, Elijah thumbs over the receipt as he sits, reclined on the couch, listening as rain beats down on the tin roof. It’s dark, for mid-afternoon; a deep blue-grey overcast filtering the sun out and shadowing the fields.
Still better than the city.
He sighs. Reads the note again. Little early for hookups, isn’t it? Ezra considers himself fairly capable of moving on quickly, but still, if he thinks too much about Sean, something in his chest goes tight and the world feels too small. He could have gone to the other side of the country, to Australia or Japan, and still Sean would feel too close.
Fingers reach up behind him and pluck the receipt out of hand, though, and Elijah doesn’t even bother turning around to chastise his brother. Instead, he says, “Really? We’re being this childish, now?”
Josh reads the note out loud, makes an awwwww sound, and says, “What happened to Sean, McDreamy? Weren’t you guys happy-ever-after or whatever you want to call it?”
“We’re not in trouble,” Elijah says, but he doesn’t make an attempt at the receipt. He just rubs his eyes, wonders how long it’ll take Josh to give up on this. “And it’s none of your fucking business.”
It’s not a lie; they’re not in trouble. Elijah’s completely out of trouble. Feels better about this than he ever has. Josh, though, Josh takes that and runs with it, his eyes getting wide, and he says, “Holy shit. You’re not—“
“Josh—“ Footsteps are coming up from the basement steps, and fuck, Elijah’s not ready to admit that he’d failed in the city, that he ran home with his tail tucked between his legs, and no. They don’t need to know. They don’t need to know. Not yet. Not until Elijah can get on top of things, until he can
When she reaches the top of the stairs, Amanda glances between them, offers a tentative smile. “Getting on, I hope?” She doesn’t wait for an answer, already heading for her bedroom with the laundry basket. “So nice to see the two of you in the same room without screaming…”
She leaves before Josh can say anything, thankfully, and with a pleased sigh, Josh holds the receipt back out. “S’cute. Taking a page out of your older bro’s book, lying to Mom and Dad.”
Refraining from reaching for the receipt, Elijah says, “I’m not lying to them. And would you stop it with the older bro shit?”
Holding his hands in mock surrender, Josh says, "All right. Just... interesting you're the one keeping secrets these days, is all."
Elijah watches him leave, jaw clenched, and lets out a frustrated groan when Josh is finally around the corner.
It's good, though, right, to meet people. In Easthallow. If he's going to be living here... he'll need a network. Grant can help with that.
He calls the number before he can tell himself not to.
"Elijah," he answers, and his voice is smoother, on the phone, than it really should be. "I wondered if you'd call."
"How do you know it's Elijah?"
A beat, then, "I had a feeling. I wanted to know if you’d be interested in getting a drink?” So the entire town can know about it. So Elijah can spend the evening shooting glances around the bar, wondering who he can trust and whether Grant’s one of those people or not. “About the Beast—“
And Elijah laughs, runs a hand through his hair, and wonders if the entire town is like this. “You don’t really believe in it, do you?”
“You’re meant to believe what you see, right?”
“I’ve seen this Beast,” Elijah says. “Didn’t seem so freaky to me.”
Grant makes a noise, like a scoff, but his voice holds no judgement. “Everyone knows about Viola.”
Fine. Just to sate his curiosity. “All right. Drinks, and you can tell me all about this furry little beast of yours.”
Grant meets him in town, dressed in a light jacket Elijah finds himself jealous of, in the misting cold. He reaches out for a handshake. "Good to meet you."
"You, too," Elijah says. "I thought I knew everyone in this town." He grew up here, went to school here. Graduated with twenty kids in his class. Grant... either he was older, younger, or... wasn't from here.
As though sensing Elijah's thoughts, he sends him a sidelong glance and says, "I grew up in the city. Parents divorced when I was little. Thought I'd do better there, but I always liked the country." His smile is warm, pleasant, and Elijah wonders if it helps with the cold or if he's blushing under Grant's gaze. "What about you?"
"City all the way," Elijah says. "Stepping in cow shit has never been my version of fun."
Grant laughs. It feels good, genuine; Elijah can't remember the last time he made someone laugh. "Plenty of other farms than cattle farms."
"Not according to my parents," Elijah says. "You know they started planting crops when I was fifteen, to help with running costs, and my dad flipped?" He did; Allan's a livestock man, through and through. Elijah still remembers the nights his parents stomped around downstairs, trying to make sense of their next plan.
"What happened? Nobody in Easthallow exports crops."
They take a seat at the bar. Grant holds up two fingers to the bartender, and soft country music plays from the corner of the room, and something settles in Elijah's stomach. He's used to drink menus, twenty minutes with Sean while he tries to decide what he wants, and it's like relief when the bartender slides two beers in front of them and disappears.
It's the little things Elijah loves about this town.
"I knew your brother," Grant says, as he digs his phone out his pocket. "Back in high school."
His mood sours, but Elijah tries not to let it. He peers into the bottle, thinks about downing it all in one go. Doesn't.
"He was a prick." Grant taps away on his phone. "Little fucker nearly drove my little sister insane."
Sounds like Josh. "He cheat on her? Josh is an asshole."
"Wouldn't give her the time of day, mostly. She thought they'd grow up, get married, have kids, whole nine yards. Josh found out and... she ended up homeschooling for the rest of high school."
He remembers that. Something faint, and, hell, Elijah didn't even know the girl, but Josh slept with her best friend and then there was all kinds of drama. Because of Josh. It's hard to believe anyone thought he was a catch, but people like the bad boy thing.
"Don't hold that against me, do you?"
Grant doesn't even lift his gaze to meet Elijah's. "If you were anything like your brother, you wouldn't be speaking with me."
He turns his phone to Elijah, finally, onto a homepage for THE BEAST OF EASTHALLOW. He clicks around a bit, checks out the first hand accounts--all written journalism style, with publishing dates and Grant's name at the top as the author--the photos.
"A lot of them are Viola," Grant says, gesturing to the phone with the beer. "She loves getting dressed ip on tourist weekends and scaring the shit out of the visitors in the cabins." He smiles, shakes his head.
"She's not the start of the rumor, then?" Elijah'd been sure... she could've seen something, made the costume as a joke, to keep people away from her house...
"Nah. Viola's big into local history. Or--Penny, her wife, is. Viola took a liking to the Beast 'cause it's mystical."
Grant's thigh rubs against Elijah's, just a little. Just enough to catch the fabric, enough for the pull to tune Elijah into how close they are everywhere. "Did you read the book?"
"Book?" Elijah echoes, then clears his throat. Grateful for the low lights that help hide his blush, Elijah adds, "Right. No. Didn't even crack the spine."
Like he expects it, Grant scrolls down through his phone again, until he stops at a very clear, very close photo. "This is the most famous ever taken. Fifteen years ago or something like that."
When Elijah lived here. Why the fuck didn't he ever hear about this? "Someone's screwing with me," Elijah says. "I grew up here, and we never had a fucking local cryptid, unless you count the town drunk."
"Fifteen years ago, no one used to see it."
"We don't see it now."
Tapping the screen of his phone, Grant says, "Twenty times in the last year."
It's Josh. It's gotta be fucking Josh, enlisting the entire fucking town, right? Found some freaky girl in the woods to scare him, some guy at the farmer's market to fuck with him, and...
That doesn't make sense, though. Josh didn't know he was coming, and Elijah hasn't been home that long. Is this... does Grant actually believe this shit? That there's really some fucking monster crawling around their little town? Easthallow's a trash heap, people and literal garbage. There’s no cause for why he might be…
Elijah huffs a laugh, shakes his head. Downs the rest of his beer and says, “So, okay. Let’s say I believe in your furry little friend, just for like, five seconds.” He’s still not convinced it isn’t Viola. That this entire set-up isn’t something done to fuck with newbies. “Why only see it now?”
The question of the hour. Grant glances up at him, his eyes twinkling. Something there lights a fire on all of Elijah’s nerves, leaves him feeling warm, pleased, arousal building in his stomach. Grant’s an attractive guy; the muscles that scream outdoor labor, a five o’clock shadow Elijah wants to feel against his skin. Dark eyes Elijah could get lost in, and smooth, tan skin, and hair just long enough to pull.
Shit, he’s tapping his phone again, eyebrow raised like he knows Elijah’s imagining being held down by him, and he says, “Hundred year anniversary of old man Lowell’s suicide.”
“He killed himself?”
“So said the newspapers,” Grant said. “Lots of conflicting reports, though. Another one said he died in the old mine tunnels. Pushed from the roof of the Carnegie library… One said he got caught in a wood-chipper.”
Grimacing, Elijah takes a drink of his beer. “Poor way to go.”
But Grant’s voice is thoughtful when he asks, “Is it? Head first, maybe…” He shrugs.
Silence settles between them, Elijah picking at the label on his beer, Grant tapping his fingers rhythmically on the bar top, before Grant finally says, “So what brings you to Easthallow?”
It isn’t a secret, not really, but Elijah hesitates nonetheless. It’s only been a few days since Elijah spoke to Sean, but it feels like it’s been weeks. Easthallow seems so far removed from the city. Always has. “Bad breakup,” he says, finally, then, “or—not really. Just a breakup.”
“He cheat on you?”
Elijah turns his gaze to Grant. How the fuck does he know. He asks as much, and Grant just chuckles, shrugs one shoulder. Ducks his head in something like embarrassment. “I haven’t told anyone.”
“You have a vibe,” Grant says. “Definitely not from here. Wouldn’t come to Easthallow unless you had family. No one comes here.”
“Viola and Penny?”
With a twitch of his lips, Grant says, “I stand corrected.”
Elijah finishes his beer. Returns it to the coaster. Beside him, Grant pockets his phone. “I could show you Old Man Lowell’s place, if you’re up for it.”
Making a face, Elijah says, “Doesn’t that place have to be ancient by now? How’s it still standing?”
Before Grant can answer, Elijah’s phone buzzes in his pocket, incessant against his thigh. He apologizes as he checks it—his mother.
“Sorry, dear,” she says, but sounds exhausted, “your father has a situation with the cattle. Can you come home, help him out?”
Like a child, Elijah says, “Isn’t Josh home to help.”
Her voice is thick with false sweetness when Amanda says, “I’m asking you.”
He doesn’t have much of a choice, then. Offers a tight smile to Grant when he gets off the phone, pockets his phone. “Dad needs me. Cattle probably got loose.”
But Grant’s gaze snaps to Elijah’s, and his questions are lightning fast, one after another, until Elijah reaches out and grips Grant’s wrist. Intimate, for a man he’d met earlier that day. For a man with a curiosity for the unknown and a crazy loom in his eye when he talks about it. “I’m sure he’d welcome the help. My brother’s useless.”
“Bringing a strange man back to the house already?” Grant tsks, but leaves a twenty on the bar as he stands. “What will your parents say?”
Nothing, if Elijah has anything to do about it. “My mother knows you my name. I’d hardly consider you strange.”
The farm is a cacophony of noises when Elijah arrives there. A loud barking, his father’s deep voice as he hollers, the loud, angry mooing of a cow that does not want to follow orders.
“Yikes,” Grant says, closing the door to the driver’s side of his SUV. “Suddenly glad my parents run an orchard.”
“It’s not always like this,” Elijah says by means of explanation. Never once has he heard a dog barking here. His father’s allergic. He can make out his mother standing at the edge of the field, though, makes his way across the yard towards her. Grant’s headlights shine out toward her.
“Elijah,” she says, gripping his arm as he stops by her side. “Your father’s been at this for an hour. Something spooked the cattle.”
No shit. Even from here he can make out the door to the barn, broken off the hinges. “Dad leave the barn open?”
Amanda shakes her head. “No. Strangest thing. The hinges are bent.”
A chill runs through him; the hair on the back of his neck stands up. He takes a quick glance around the yard—lit up by the emergency lights his father had installed—but sees nothing, save for Grant as he makes his way towards them. “Not surprising,” he says. “Cattle are strong. Especially if the bull got out.” A beat. “So someone broke in?”
She takes a second to glance Grant’s way, a twinkle in her eye as he reaches out to shake her hand. “Grant. Didn’t realize Elijah was bringing help.” Before he can offer anything by means of explanation, she adds, “The more the merrier.”
Another bark sounds from the field, and Amanda whistles. “And this fucking dog. No idea where it came from.”
At her whistle, the dog comes bounding up to her, tongue wagging out of its mouth. In the dark, it’s a little different, but Elijah would recognize it anywhere. “Rocky?”
He barks, wags his tail. Amanda looks between them with a frown. “You know him?”
Elijah reaches to scratch his ears. “I met his owner the other day—” He almost says in the woods; doesn’t want to tell her what he was doing out there. “—does he come here often?”
“More than we’d like.”
Behind them, Grant adds, “Could it have been the dog who spooked them?”
Amanda shrugs. “Not likely. Allan nearly got one back to the barn before it ran off again.”
“You guys check the barn out?”
What? No. Elijah really doesn’t want to go play detective right now. He wants to go to the field, help his father wrangle the half-dozen cows and the bull back into their barns. But Grant’s already eyeing the barn, and Elijah’s not going to leave him on his own.
Not until he trusts what the fuck is going on here.
“Be my guest,” Amanda says. “After that, can you guys head out to the field?”
“Will do, Mama.”
Rocky follows at their heels, quieting the closer the get to the barn. The hair on the back of Elijah’s neck still stands on end, but, save for his mother and Grant, the farm’s clear—nothing out of the ordinary.
Grant whistles as he pulls on the door. “Damn thing’s strong.”
“Thing would’ve taken a truck to pull it off the hinges like this.” Elijah rubs his hand along the bent metal. The hinges look twisted, ruined beyond repair, the metal worn and fragile in places. “They’d’ve heard it.”
“No one’s gonna take a damn truck to a barn door, either. Easier to steal the cattle out of the pasture.” Grant seems lost in thought for a few seconds, then pulls a small flashlight from his pocket. “And that’s still a lot of work for half a dozen cattle.”
Old cattle, too. Allan does it more as a hobby, now, than as a way to make money. Breeds the cattle, trades them to keep the bloodlines clean. Elijah remembers some of it from when he used to live here. His father’s trips to cattle auctions.
“Elijah,” Grant says. His tone, soft, strange, not quite a whisper but not his normal tone, piques Elijah’s interest, and he follows Grant’s gaze to where he’s brushing his fingers along where the door used to sit against the side of the barn. He doesn’t see anything at first, just like Grant’s pressing against nothing, and then…
Three long, thick gashes in the wood, splintering the siding out. Like nails, fingernails, but… there’s nothing that could do that. A bear, maybe a cougar, but… “You’re seeing this, too, right?”
Anger flares in Elijah’s stomach. “You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.” Josh. He’s always been a joker, but—fuck, getting the cattle involved in his homecoming prank on Elijah? This isn’t some petty joke he’s playing, built from an old sibling rivalry he won’t let go of anymore. This isn’t just between them, and as soon as Elijah gets him alone, he’s going to tear his brother a new one.
He turns on his heel, back towards the field, towards where he can hear his father making whooping noises towards the cattle in the dark. Josh is—damn it. Usually better about this sort of thing. It’s not the first time one of his jokes has gone too far, but it’s about to be the last.
He comes across one of the cows before he sees his father. Behind him, he hears Grant’s footsteps. The cow makes a noise, distressed, and starts to stand. Elijah holds a hand out, palm up, and says, “Easy girl, you’re okay,” in a voice he hopes is soothing.
Still, she only makes concerned noises, struggling to get up, get away. Elijah turns, slow, moves so she’ll run towards the house, not farther into the field, still talking in quiet tones. “Easy—let’s get you back to the barn, yeah? Back to sleep? Bet Dad’s got some treats for you. How ‘bout you follow me?”
She moos again; this time, her voice breaks, and she stands, slow, staring off into the darkness behind Elijah. “Grant, you’re freaking her out,” Elijah says. “Can you back away, just a bit?”
No sound, though; no answer. Not even footsteps as Grant moves. Elijah turns, ready to ask him again, when he sees it—fur, thick, eyes glowing yellow in the dark, shining in the light from the yard. It stands tall, taller than Elijah by at least a foot, and its teeth glimmer, sharp and long. Arms, impossibly long, hang at its sides, its chest heaving with each breath.
It’s different, up close. Taller, thinner. Creepier. He thinks about Viola, about how her costume looks up close, and knows, without a doubt, this isn’t her.
His throat goes dry, his blood rushes like a river through his ears. He can’t scream, doesn’t know what he would say if he could, and hopes to tell Josh off for this, later, when the thing snarls, and the next thing Elijah sees is the large, clawed hand that reaches out, as if from the shadows, and punches him in the head.
He doesn’t remember falling.

Say You Won't Let Go - Chapter 4
Lauren’s POV
A month has passed since the issue with Austin at Camila’s café, we were kind of inseparable now, every day i would walk in Crazy Wisdom Cafe at 9 am to get my usual coffee, sat at my usual table and grabbed a different book every 3 days, that was the good thing about the café it had a huge variety of books, you can never get bored in there.
Camila was always around and sat next to me with a book on her hands, i would look up every now and then and stare at her, i loved the way her hair would fall over her face and she’d have to tuck it behind her ear, i always knew she had reached an interesting part on the book when she scrunched up her eyebrows and bit her bottom lip, sometimes she even put the book down when it was “too much for her to take’’.
I didn’t even realize when i started to look at Camila different, Dinah would point it out every time she could and Normani would just smirk at us, Camila seemed completely oblivious towards all of the things the girls said around us. I really like her, i knew it from the moment i saw her at the bar that day, i loved her chocolate brown eyes, her long hair, her smile, the mole on the top of her forehead, her laugh, her dumb jokes that apparently only made me laugh, i was falling and hard but i didn’t care at all. She went to the hospital with me to get my thumb checked out and the doctor commented on how nice my ‘’girlfriend’’ was for not letting me go to the hospital by myself, we both blushed but neither of us denied what he said.
After a good time reading at the Café i’d send some emails with my resume, i was still looking for a job, after a long useless conversation with my parents, my dad offered me a job in his company, he was the CEO of Jauregui Corp, a fashion company that owned several famous brands, i didn’t take the job because i need to succeed by myself, my dad understood but my mom was pissed, to her i was a disappointment, "you have to be thankful for what we give you and stop being a lazy ungrateful girl” i was so thankful for everything they gave and continue giving me but i had to do this by myself.
I was now sitting in my usual place alone, Camila wasn’t here yet which was weird because she’s always around. I finished my first coffee but kept reading waiting for her to arrive.
“Did someone order a coffee of the day with one splenda and a heart shaped with milk?” I heard someone say behind me, i put my book down and turn to face the voice. Keana was there holding the cup with one hand and holding a chocolate chip cookie with the other.
"Uhm it sounds like something i would order" i said smiling at her, she smiled back and placed the things on the small table in front of me, then she took my empty cup to take it with her.
"I thought i could save you the trouble of getting up and ask for it" she said.
"Oh my god Lauren i’m sorry i’m late i just saw something really cool on my way here and i had to bring it" i heard Camila say “oh hi Keana” she smiled at the barista and keana smiled back excusing herself,  Camila sat down and pulled the chair closer to me, she had her arms on her back hiding something and a dorky smile on her cute face.
"So i was on my way here and there’s this flower shop right on the corner… and well i saw this particular flower and i’ve never seen it in this color before and yeah..“ she said the last part showing me what she was hiding behind her back, i felt my muscles immediately relax when i saw Camila holding a glass small vase with a green orchid with a shade of light pink and white in the middle. ‘’it’s for you’’ she said handing me the vase.
"Camz it’s so beautiful” i said taking the vase and getting a better look at it, i wasn’t expecting this at all, no one’s ever given me flowers before, it was just a single orchid but it was so freaking beautiful, I’ve never seen them in this color.
"I’m glad you liked it" she stopped and smiled at me, i was still staring at the flower. “I always walk by that flower shop and it’s the first time i’ve seen a green orchid and i went in and asked the owner what it meant” i could see she was trying to figure out how to say what she was thinking. “ and she said it meant… uhmm.. beauty and strength” camila was blushing so hard right now, i felt my cheeks hurt from how much i was smiling. “And it reminded me of you because.. well you’re obviously beautiful and not only on the outside, but you have a beautiful mind and heart Lauren… and strength because you’re one of the strongest people I’ve met, you have so much going in your life but you always greet everyone with a smile on your face no matter how shitty your day or life is” She continued with a small smile on her face and her bottom lip between her teeth, i was kind of speechless right now, i wanted to tell her how much i liked her and how beautiful and perfect she was but my brain wasn’t working so well.
 "Camila i-“ i started
"And i know I’ve known you for a month but it feels like I’ve gotten to know so much about you in that time than people who I’ve known for years… ” i swear this girl never lets me finish. “i guess what i’m trying to say is that you’re an amazing person Lauren and you mean a lot to me.. so i hope this isn’t weird” she took a deep breath and looked at me expecting an answer.
Instead of an answer, i placed the flower on the table and got up to hug her, i put my arms around her waist and her arms were around my neck.
"Thank you so much" i simply said squeezing her.
"Keana looks like she’s about to kill me" i heard Camila whispering in my ear, i laughed and gave a step back trying to end the hug.
"No wait… this feels nice" she said pulling me back and hugging me tighter.
-
I was driving to Dinah’s apartment, She had called me earlier to ask me to come to a movie night hosted by her. “Bring your cute ass over at 6 so you can help me set everything up and some ice cream please” she didn’t even let me speak, i swear between Camila and her i don’t know who lets me speak the most.
I was in a stoplight when my phone started ringing, great.
"Hey mom" i said taking a deep breath mentally preparing myself for what she had to say.
"Hey Laur, you’re coming tomorrow to your father’s annual dinner party right?“ She asked. Shit i totally forgot about that, that party was literally my mom’s excuse to introduce me to rich guys so i can magically fall in love and marry them, she knew i liked girls that’s why she kept doing that every single year.
"Oh right.. yes i’m coming” i replied a little unsure.
"Great! I want to introduce you to someone very special" i knew it!!! Why can’t she leave me alone.
"But mom-“ and she hung up.
"Fucking great” i said stepping out of the elevator in Dinah’s building, i took out my spare key and opened the door, good thing i had a key because She was currently giving a concert in the bathroom. Dinah had an amazing voice, she worked at a sport’s clothing brand as the head of marketing and on her free time she’d sing at a bar, she didn’t need the money but she loved singing and showing off her voice. She was belting Beyoncé’s voice in if i were a boy, i was setting everything up in the kitchen.
I saw her come out of the bathroom just wearing her underwear.
"HOLY SHIT LAUSER WHAT THE HELL" she said jumping, i was just standing by the sink and she freaked out!
"Uh.. hi? I have a spare key remember?“ I said, while she walked in her room.
"But you scared the shit out of me… why did we ever agree on giving each other spare keys to our apartments” i heard her rant in her room.
"When you forgot to turn off the freaking stove and i had to come in several times before going to work to do it!“ I said laughing at the past events.
I was getting ready to go to work when i heard my phone ringing in the living room.
"Hey what’s up?"  I asked.
"LAUREN I NEED A BIG FAVOR IM ALREADY IN THE OFFICE AND I LEFT RHE STOVE ON” i heard Dinah say speaking fast, she was really worried about it.
“You what?! Dinah Jane who the fuck leaves the stove on you dumbass!” I said immediately picking my things up and running to my car.
“Shut up leave me alone go turn it off” i was starting my car now and driving as fast as the Miami streets let me.
“How am i going to get in?” I said.
“Well… you’ve earned it Lauser, there’s a spare key in my mail box, consider it a gift from me to you”
“You’re so dumb did you know that?” I said and hung up.
My memory was interrupted by someone knocking the door.
“Lauser! Get the door”
I opened the door and saw my favorite brunette standing there she was holding two bags of popcorn, and looked absolutely stunning, she was wearing light blue high waisted jeans and a white friends crop top with her hair in a messy bun.
"Lo? Are you going to let me in or what?“ Camila said smiling.
"Right, sorry.. come in please” i took the popcorn bags from her hands and put them on the kitchen counter.
"Chancho! You’re here!“ I heard Dinah say hugging Camila.. Chancho? When did that happen?
"CheeChee! Thanks for inviting me” Camila replied, i knew Dinah and Camila were good friends now but i didn’t know they were on the nickname phase, it was cute though, i’m glad the girl i like is good friends with my best friend, sometimes i think she likes her better than she likes me, even Normani admits to like Camila more than me.
"Stop looking at Camila like that Lauser" Dinah said smirking.
“What?! No.. i’m not looking at Camila i’m just.. i have a lot in my mind.. who else is coming?’’ i asked trying to change the subject.
‘’Normani and Ally are on their way, just us five’’ Dinah replied taking out the juice and soda from the fridge.
‘’and that’s why you asked me to bring 4 different ice cream tubs!?’’ i said, and Dinah looked so unimpressed , i Heard Dinah’s phone go off and she started looking everywhere for it.
‘’Lauren do us all a favor and help me find my phone thank you’’ She said throwing the pillows that were on the couch away. Camila and I stayed right where we were before staring at Dinah, she kneeled down to look for the phone under the couch.
‘’FOUND IT!’’ She said. ‘’Hey Mani what’s up?’’ she asked standing up.
‘’Oh okay, I’m on my way’’ she was smirking now what the hell?
‘’Girls, I have to help Ally and Mani with the things they brought so I’ll be right back, please behave, no funny business on my couch or my bedroom, I love you’’ and with that she left both Camila and I blushing.
‘’I swear that girl has no filter’’ I said pushing myself up to sit on the kitchen counter.
‘’I know, believe me.. we went shopping the other day cause I needed new jeans and she asked me to show her the ones I was trying on… BAD IDEA… she literally yelled ‘’CAMILA IS YOUR BUTT FREAKING REAL BECAUSE IT’S HUGE!’’ Camila said, we were both laughing now, I can’t believe Dinah did that.. well actually I can..
‘’She’s so embarrassing, I don’t even know why I like to go out with her, she always does something to embarrass me.. I’m glad she has you now!’’ I said opening one of the popcorn bags Camila brought, I offered some and she walked in closer to me.
‘’Good thing It’s Friday and she doesn’t have to work tomorrow because I bet she’s gonna get sick from eating too much today’’ I said taking a handful of popcorn and putting the bag beside me, Camila laughed at me and stood between my legs to grab more popcorn, I was surprised at this because she didn’t actually have to do that to get more popcorn, she looked up with popcorn in her mouth and threw one at my face laughing, I smirked at this and threw popcorn at her as well, I placed my legs behind her pulling her closer and not letting her escape.
‘’I can’t believe you did that Lo!’’ she said still trying to free herself. I kept throwing popcorn at her until she hid her face on my stomach.
‘’Hey Camz look up’’ I said.
‘’No’’ she replied not moving a single muscle.
‘’I’m not gonna do anything anymore, I promise’’ I said lifting my arms.
‘’I don’t trust you’’ she said.
‘’Camz, let me see your pretty eyes’’ I placed my hands on the sides of her face trying to get her to look up. I felt her breathing through my shirt and it gave me goosebumps. ‘’okay let me see your pretty smile then’’ I felt her muscles relax and I moved her face away from my body, she had her eyes closed.
‘’Aren’t you gonna open your eyes?’’ I asked.
‘’nope’’ she said moving her head.
 ‘’Why not?’’
 ‘’I’m scared’’
‘’Of me?’’ I said caressing her cheek with my right thumb and she nodded, not saying anything else. ‘’why are you scared of me? I’m not gonna throw popcorn at you anymore I swear’’
‘’I’m not scared of that’’ she replied.
 ‘’then what is it Camz?’’
‘’I’m scared that if I open my eyes, I’ll look into yours and everything will be clear’’ she said.
‘’what do you mean?’’ I saw her opening her eyes and staring right at me. i was still holding her close to me with my legs wrapped around her waist.
‘’Crap’’ she said hiding her face on my stomach again.
‘’What Is it Camz?’’ I said placing my hands on her shoulders.
‘’I vreelly luke yew’’ she said still hiding, I didn’t understood anything she said, she had my shirt practically covering her mouth.
 ‘’what?’’ I asked
‘’ I really really reaaaalllyyy like you Lauren’’ she said finally looking up. I felt my stomach fill with butterflies and a smile slowly formed on my face, I took my left hand off her shoulders and caress her cheek.
 ‘’Camz’’ I said.
‘’No I’m sorry it was wrong for me to say’’ she tried to get away but she couldn’t, I’m so thankful that I have strong legs.
‘’Hey, no.. it wasn’t wrong’’ I said moving my hand to the back of her neck
 ‘’it wasn’t? she asked.
‘’Of course not’’ i was still smiling at her, my cheeks hurt so much from smiling but I didn’t care. ‘’ Will you be my date to my parent’s annual party tomorrow?’’ I said softly scratching the back of her neck. I saw her face relax.
 ‘’What? Why?’’ she asked.
‘’Because I really really like you too Camila Cabello’’
Just when she was about to reply the door flew open and Dinah, Normani and Ally walked in holding 3 pizza boxes, the three of them immediately looked at us, I was still on top of the kitchen counter, Camila was still between my legs and I knew the two most annoying girls and Ally will never let it go.
‘’MANI YOU OWE ME 20 DOLLARS!’’ Dinah said. I gave camila a reassuring squeeze on her shoulder and smiled at her, she moved so I could jump off the counter.
‘’Lauser, I know I told you my couch and room were off limits, but why my kitchen counter girl!’’ Dinah said placing the box on the counter, Normani and Ally wouldn’t stop laughing at this, I turned to see Camila blushing for something Dinah said for the third time this day, I took her hand and pulled it towards my lips to give her a small kiss.
‘’ Camren’s first time should’ve been in a more romantic place Laurenza!’’ Normani said.
They were definitely not letting this go for a while.

“Im Ana” she said
“What a lovely name, Im Marko” he said
“Nice meeting you Marko” Ana said
They become friends Ana has a friend now
Marco ask her If she is aware for the up coming talent show that will happen at the market and it has a prize If you win
Ana smile and her eyes full of happiness
She wanted to join to that talent show
But she has two major problems first is her insecurity to her body she is frighten to go up to the stage and people will laugh at her
And the second one is her parents whould not allow her to join to that talent show
Her happy face turns into a sadly face and she cry a lot that she may not fulfill her dream to sing in front of many people
Marko holds her hand and ask her “Whats wrong Ana? You can talk to me if you want? he said then he confort Ana by hugging her
When Ana’s emotion calms Marko just wait for her to speak and share she don't want to pressure her to tell what's really the problem
Ana breathe out heavily and she look to Marco and say to herself “maybe I can trust him” Ana smile to him and Marco also smile
Then she breathe again and start telling what really the reasons that she can make it to the talent show even she really want
Then Marko understand the situation he had a first solution to that by talking properly to her parents and believing to herself
The second one if her parents still didn't allow her its up to her to break the roles and follow her dreams to sing in front of people
They meet again to there hidden place and each of the tells about their lives what family they have and what they like
Suddenly Ana feel sorry for herself because Marco has a lovely family that loves him and treat him well
Marco holds her hand and tell her that the right time will came that her parents will be change and love her for the rest of their lives
When Ana came home she prefers the food for there dinner and still thinking the advice that Marco said earlier she can't focus to eat
After eating she wash dishes and go to her room sitting on the window looking to the star in the sky and singing that makes her relax she decided to talk to her parents first
She think positively that her parents will allow her to sing to the talent show
Thanks to Marco she had a friend to lean on
The next day which is actually the day of the talent show while preparing to their lunch she speak up to her parent if she can join the talent show and give them a lovely smile but her parents get mad and her mother shout out her saying “You will never go to the talent show can you be shy look at yourself your so fat you can't win that contest understand!”
She was drugged by her father and lock up to her room she's crying loudly didn't except that it will happen that worst
She sit on the corner of her room and cry
Looking to the clock she need to get out of that room and go to the market and sing
She wants to open her parents eyes that even she's fat she can win that she can make them proud
There's someone throw on her window luckily its Marco he knew that Ana’s parents will not allow her to sing so he proceed to the second plan which is breaking the roles
Ana wipe her tears and change she wear her favorite dress and she put some make up to be more presentable to people
They tied up the blanket that she had on her room to make a rope to get down and it was successful
They run to go to the market as soon as possible holding hands and with a bright smiles to there faces
When they arrive to the talent show wa already started but she still can perform They filled up the form and prepare for her turn while waiting she look at Marco and say thank you for all things that he did for her and they hugged each other
It's her turn now she walk to the middle of the stage and smile to the people her chest running as fast but she think that she can do it looking to Marco which is her source of bravery the piano started to play and she started singing a few lines of the song
Her parents followed her to the market and they hear the true beauty of theirs daughters golden voice and the people was mesmerized about what they hear its a cotton to the ears and cloud to the feelings
Her parents realize what they did and they cried watching and listening to their daughter smiling and looking to her
She notice that her parents are there and she can see her though their eyes their repentance and happiness when the people cheering for her when she hit the high note
Ana won the talent show and fulfill her dream to sing for the people
The people acknowledge her for having a golden voice to their village
When she walk down to the stares her parents approach her crying saying “We're really sorry our daughter” they they hugged Ana she also hugged them back because even she's mad at them she still love them as a parents
She look at them and says “I already forgive you Mother and Father” while crying her parents also say “We so proud of you you're such a gift to us”
Ana introduce Marco to her parents saying “Mother Father this is my friend who helps me to get her and he also encourage me to join to this talent show” Her parents smiles to him saying “Nic meeting you and thank you” Marco smiles back saying “Its my honor to meet you maam and sir”
They invite Marco to have dinner with them to their house
When they already home Ana was shocked because she usually does preparing but now her parents do it for her she actually have teary eye for so much joy and happiness
They eat dinner with full of laughter and naughtiness that Ana didn't really realized that will happened
Her parents finally changed and become a real parents to her They are the one who cooks for the family and the one feed the animals backyard and finally she feels the love that she really wanted and deserve
Marko and Ana still meets at the falls and they know that they already feelings to each other
After ten years, Ana and Marco become married and blessed with two daughters Lori and Mori who also have golden voices like there mother they lived on a small house at the forest beside the falls where they meet each other
This small house was full of love and caring for each other they also have plenty of friends backyard
Swimming to the falls was the most favorite for their children as a bonding
While swimming they used to sing a song that feel them a love and family that they must treasure for a long time
Ana teach her daughters to love each other and always look to each other
Ana and Marco hug their children and they live happily ever after

How does the car insurance process work?
So to start this stressful story I just purchased a new truck in Louisiana. My guy and I pulled out of the dealership lot and literally about a minute down the road we were hit by a girl in a car who says she didn't see us. Her car was damaged pretty bad but ours has a big dent and a scratch. It's still functional but now the passenger door won't open because of the location where her car contacted ours. So a police officer came and filed a crash report and gave us her information, but says that we have to wait til Friday to be able to get a copy of the crash report. We have full coverage insurance on our truck and our basic warranty. I'm going to call the insurance company to be sure but I was wondering what are the steps to filing a claim and getting my truck fixed. What exactly do I need to do to complete the whole process. I'm very into details so all serious and thorough answers are appreciated. Thanks""
Health insurance for your car?
I own an auto repair shop, and I had an idea that I would like you all to help me with. What if there was a program where you paid a monthly premium like health insurance. Then, When you needed an oil change, fluid flush, light bulb, new alternator, new tires new brakes, new engine, or needed to fix an oil leak, you wouldn't have to pay anything you would just go in to get it fixed. What do you think would be a good rate for that monthly premium in everyone opinion? The rate would depend on whether you owned a car or truck, and wether or not it was 4wd. What do you all think?""

What are the chances of me 'winning' this car insurance claim ?
Yesterday i was leaving work , driving along a road , when a young girl ( 17/18 ) drove straight out of the car park on the left and hit my nsf wheel so hard it pushed my car 5ft across the road. She said she didn't even look to see if a car was coming. She has large scuff marks on the corner of her bumper, my car has a dented wing , wrecked wheel (which is no longer pointing straight ) . This girl is on her parents insurance. Her boyfriend was on his motorbike and said to me , he didn't believe she just did that , he saw it all. My insurance company says it seems straight forward - she was totally at fault, My car is not drive able. Husband ( mechanic ) seems to think i may need a new steering rack, wishbone maybe strutt , wing , alloy wheels ....they may write my car off as its value for insurance is 1200. How much would you estimate the annual cost of living to be in central New Jersey?
This would be for a simple lifestyle- one bedroom apartment, utilities, food, clothing, phone, internet, cable, basic car, car insurance, gas, car maintenance, computer, pet, gifts, and a one-week basic vacation. Why are republicans fighting the health insurance mandate and not fighting the car insurance mandate?
If you have to buy car insurance and get penalized for driving without car insurance, whats the difference here? Its as much a privilege to drive as it is to receive healthcare. However no one thinks its an over reach of government to mandate car insurance. When you get in a car accident with an uninsured driver you have to pay for your own damage, so how different is it then when americans use the public healthcare system, the government has to use TAX DOLLARS to pay for their health care. Also why is it being categorized as a Government Takeover of Healthcare ? If I buy health insurance wouldnt it be more like a Privatization of Healthcare seeing that instead of having vast amounts of tax dollars going into the system, the health system would now be funded by the insurance companies by paying out claims.""

Hello .. I would like to listen to your opinios regarding this situation that has turned into a nightmare for me !!! I spent few months in Australia.. I have a full driving license.. I was driving on the M4.. I had 2 cars in front of me .. I was in the last car in the row ( third car ) .. the car in the front ( First car ) has braked suddenly .. The car in the middle ( second car ) hit it causing it much damage .. I could not stop at the right time and i hit the middle car afterwards .. Now .. The man in the middle car has lied to his insurance company and said that he stopped at the right time but when i hit him i made his car jump to the front and hit the front car .. I have now 2 insurance companies chasing me for money and treat me as a hunt because i had no third party property damage at the time of the accident .. My understanding was that the greenslip covers these things but actually they dont .. I have received bills from both companies.. 7000 AUD for the front car and 2000 for the middle car .. The details of repairs in the middle car ( that i hit on a very low speed) shows that damage at the rear of the car cost only 427 AUD and i offered them to pay it .. They refused and threatened me to go to court.. The police did not come at the place of the accident .. What do you think i should do?! How strong will be my situation at the court ?!

Aetna Value Network (AVN) HMO with copays $10 to $50 With so many selection, my head is starting to spin. So if someone can enlighten me the deductible they chose if you are planning to have kids and also saving tips on selecting the health benefits that would work for a couple.
