Hermes Terre d’Hermes

Hermes Terre d’Hermes
Nose: Jean-Claude Ellena
notes: orange, grapefruit; pepper, pelargonium, flint; vetiver, cedar, patchouli, benzoin
By now, you probably know Terre D’Hermes, even if you don’t know you do. It’s ubiquitous. Jean-Claude Ellena has the extremely valuable talent of pulling off airy minimalism in perfume — ie, more cynically, making a small formula budget smell good. And Terre d’Hermes does smell good.
It has a nice, light-stone, dry feeling, from vetiver, with a lot of airy radiant aromachemicals and little sunlit glints of citrus winking in and out.
Soon it settles into plain vetiver with a particularly sheer and synthetic texture.
Honestly, Terre d'Hermes is vetiver with training wheels. It's diluted with abstract "perfuminess" and a bit of citrus, so it's more likable than a more intensely bitter-dry vetiver like Encre Noire, and it's easy to find. Terre d'Hermes is solidly good: not exotic, not extreme, not awe-inspiring, but smooth and seamless and shining. Nothing to complain about.
(Nominally masculine, but easily unisex if you want it to be; it's just a dry, light, woody scent without a trace of anything decorative.)

Frederic Malle Heaven Can Wait Review - Jean-Claude Ellena; 2023
Brand new from Frederic Malle and Jean-Claude Ellena: the retro-loving #HeavenCanWait.
It is to his credit that Frederic Malle continues to make us wait a whole year between new releases: he could so easily have given in to the temptation to churn out a half-baked creation every few months or so. And funnily enough, the passage of time is alluded to in his latest piece of work, Heaven Can Wait, created by the man behind some of his most memorable scents, Jean-Claude Ellena. Here’s…

Un Jardin Sur Le Nil (eau de toilette) Jardin Hermès Nose: Jean-Claude Ellena
Woods
“A new and rather unusual concept of freshness; green and vegetal scents; the smell of water and sand.” Jean-Claude Ellena
Un Jardin sur le Nil is an impressionistic stroll through the island-gardens on the Nile at Aswan, the starting point for a new olfactory adventure. Green mango, lotus, calamus and sycamore wood all lie at the heart of this refreshing ode.
Olfactory strolls through the different annual themes of the house, the Les Jardins fragrances attest to genuine encounters between the Hermès spirit, the soul of a place and the perfumer-composer.
A garden full of life, generous and sparkling, where the scents of green mango, lotus blossom and rush blend with incense and sycamore wood.

hey queen. you have perfume recs for me? I don't really like super sweet scents but I love your taste in well. everything so I'll take anything you suggest <3
hiii hello! i’m not a big fan of super sweet scents either, i prefer muscular woody or spicy notes with a hint of vanilla. you know the scents that are unisex but lean more masculine... my personal favorite perfume that i always recommend is tobacco vanille by tom ford, let me tell you it’s the best mixture of spicy and sweet and it really makes a statement. wearing this scent makes me feel more attractive.. more mysterious and much more confident! there’s just nothing like this out there.
some other perfumes that strike just the right balance –

favorite perfume brands? i'm always looking for niche or relatively unknown brands and you seem to have somewhat similar tastes to mine
well my favs arent really unknown im kindof basic to be honest LOL. i looooooooooooooooove hermes theyre my all time fav they can do literally no wrong in my eyes christine nagel and jean-claude ellena are gods among men i think anything from hermes is incredible and they are honestly so underappreciated as a fragrance house. and then i am a diptyque girly too i just love a refined brand aesthetic in general and fragrances that are made with like restraint seemingly yknow… i also obviously love frederic malle and serge lutens as unapproachable as a lot of their frags are they are so artistic and when they hit they hit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! also love kerosene theyre a bit more heavy handed but so interesting. ihave also been very intrigued by caswell massey lately i would love to try their almond and rose fragrances they have a very cutesy coquette refined look to their branding. and i am dyyyyying to try the dries van noten frags esp soie malaquais

Hermes Eau de Neroli Dore
Nose: Jean-Claude Ellena
notes: neroli, bitter orange, saffron
Lovely, floaty neroli + bigarade in the top; mildly unpleasant, overly soft/purse-y iris bottom.
Very short-lived.

Thoughts On Frederic Malle Leaving His Own Brand -- And Reviews Of Some Of His Classic Scents
Frederic Malle has announced he's leaving his own brand -- some thoughts from me, followed by reviews of a few his classic releases
— The speculators I alluded to above are theorising about all manner of likely (and less likely) reasons and scenarios. Take your pick from whichever of the following you fancy: i) thwarted creative freedom, ii) clashing and disagreeing with the marketing strategies employed by a multi-national monolith, iii) not wanting to put up any longer with his perfumes being cheapened, iv) the end of the…

Osmanthe Yunnan (eau de toilette) Hermèssence Hermès Nose: Jean-Claude Ellena
Woods
Osmanthe Yunnan, a seductive game of tea, flowers and fruits.
“During a visit to the Forbidden City in Beijing, I was captivated by an exquisite smell that led me by the tip of my nose to the Imperial Palace, where osmanthus bushes were in bloom. In November, despite their tiny size, the flowers exuded a strong scent of apricot and freesia. I imagined combining these blossoms with a tea from Yunnan, the most beautiful province in China… and the idea for the fragrance was born.” Jean-Claude Ellena Hermessence is a collection of sober and intense olfactory poems. Nature is reinvented, to original effect. Raw materials are transcended. The collection symbolises creative freedom, a highly individual writing style, encapsulating the essence of the signature of a great house. Each Hermessence fragrance is available with or without a leather case.

Weekend plans include: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ - drinking cardamom tea - eating snickerdoodles - roasted nuts - lots of chocolate - cozy fires - flannel blankets - books. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ L’Eau d’Ambre Extrème. Jean-Claude Ellena and Jean Laporte. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1978. You know what’s really weird? There’s no real brand history on the @lartisanparfumeur website. No mention of these old bottles or the bottles that came before or even before that. Nothing about the first few perfumes and what they were. It’s like all that never even existed and these old bottles are just floating around. #lartisanparfumeur #leaudambreextreme #amberperfume #nicheperfume #nichefragrances #perfumelover #scentoftheday #fragcomm #discontinuedproducts #vintageperfume #fragrances #jeanclaudeellena #perfumecollection (at Calgary, Alberta) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn8d3BduFti/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
