Hey, Just here to say I loved The Medium. Normally I don't go for games like this, but I really enjoyed it! One thing that really stuck with me were the art and character design, it was pretty but so eerie it gave me goosebumps often. It was amazing the contrastantes of the two words and I Just want to say thank you for something so amazing and say you did an amazing job (so awkward but I mean it). Where did you get the inspo for things like the ghosts?
Thank you so much! Just for the record- the main monster, The Maw was designed by Michal Motulewicz (https://www.artstation.com/michalm). Just saying, because when people tell me they liked some ghost/monster I suspect they think about that one. When it comes to characters from the spirit world, I did Sadness, Jack, spirit Marianne, The Hound, and a little bit of Childeater (his face).
Although Beksinski’s art was a big influence on the artstyle of the game, I was someone who looked for inspiration outside of that. Beksinski’s art was here mainly for the atmosphere for me, but when it came to all little details I looked at basically everything, not only his art. The Hound was hugely inspired by a Münchmeyer disease and... Bloodborne in some way (The One Reborn), while Sadness... I had a soft spot for creepy porcelain masks since I was a kid drawing stuff on oekaki boards. Also, those wavy elements where her arm should be? That was inspired by a certain sculpture. Contemporary sculpture and contemporary art is a great source of inspiration in general.
