Is it this way for you?
Her heart pumps blood, her lungs take in air, she sleeps, wakes, eats, excretes. Will her life be long or short? What has she chosen, she wonders, and what has chosen her? She likes the fragrance of gardenias, but not the scent of lipstick. She doesn’t mind the rain. She is in love, which feels, to her, at once easy and hard, elemental and ungraspable—like vanishing and eternity at the same time. She wants to ask of every person she meets: Is it this way for you?

Spotify Announces New Audio Series “Harley Quinn & The Joker: Sound Mind”
Tumblr media
The second Spotify / DC / Warner Bros. audio series is all about renowned psychologist Dr. Harleen Quinzel. Harley Quinn & The Joker: Sound Mind is developed, written, and directed by Eli Horowitz. Matthew Derby and Rachel Khong will also contribute to the script. Christina Ricci stars as Harley with Billy Magnussen as the Joker and Justin Hartley as Batman. Realm will handle physical production on the audio series.
Harley Quinn & The Joker: Sound Mind is an original story told from Harley’s perspective. “When listeners meet Harley, she’s still Dr. Harleen Quinzel, a gifted psychologist at Arkham Asylum in Gotham City determined to help the patients her colleagues have written off. But her dad is sick and in need of an expensive life-saving operation Harleen can’t afford. So, when she meets “Patient J,” a unique criminal who seems to have a strange power over everyone but her, Harleen makes a fateful decision: to use her relationship with J to get what she needs, leading both of them down a dangerous path that will change their lives forever.” (DC Comics)

9 Exciting April 2024 Book Releases to Read Now
I cannot even explain how many absolutely incredible looking books are coming out this month! I guess a good place to start would be that I checked out 4 influencer ALCs from Libro.fm when my previous maximum was 2. There were simply too many good ones to pass up on! Even outside of those, the books coming out this month look delightful from start to finish and I’m sure many of the WTTN Best Of…

Submission Spotlight: Guernica
If you're looking for a lit mag to place short fiction with a slant towards originality (or even weirdness) and a lot of interiority, may I suggest Guernica? They're open now, and there's no fee. Competition is a tough, so send your best! #publishing
As of May 2023, Guernica is currently open for no-fee submissions here (follow their link to create a free Submittable account). Founded in 2004, Guernica publishes poetry, essays, fiction, criticism, and journalism online. Unlike most magazines, it pays contributors rather than staff; in fact, its staff are entirely volunteers. Rather than a university affiliation, the magazine is partnered with…

Trapped in a moment
My alarm rang at seven and I pressed snooze as usual. The second time I awoke, it was still seven. This happened occasionally, these blips in my existence. I got blank stares whenever I tried explaining them, so I didn’t anymore. The feeling I had was that time wouldn’t move. A second would refuse to pass as it usually did, and I would find myself trapped in a moment—unable to progress beyond a minute or two...
Outside, I regarded my surroundings with suspicion, as though they were a dream I might wake up from. Like everyone, I had recently watched The Matrix. Would it be so bad to discover that life until now, or some portion of it, had been illusory—an advanced society’s highly realistic simulation? It might actually be a relief.

Le gustaba usar la palabra diamante como un término cuantitativo.
"Solo un diamante" decía a veces cuando comíamos juntos y yo apretaba la botella de catsup sobre la hamburguesa de ambos.
Eso me gustaba.

Book Festival Report, Erik Larson, Rachel Khong, Danielle Dutton, and More
Tumblr media
Apologies for leaving you without a Book Wag last week; I was in La-La Land for the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books. It was my third appearance there, but my first as an author. I took part in a panel called Life, Interrupted: Mental-Health Memoirs, with fellow memoirists Alice Carrière (Everything/Nothing/Someone) and Anna Gazmarian (Devout), moderated by my colleague, Chicago critic Elizabeth Taylor.
