The style and gender of the generation is completely up to you (I usually play as women but gender does not matter in this challenge)! Complete all goals before focusing on the next generation. Some may play onto each other, so be sure to look ahead before moving forward! I created an adapted version for people who do not have the packs I used listed below the challenge. I wanted to make sure everyone could play and not feel left out!

Rules:

No cheats or mods!

Start off with $20,000 and a build a house wherever you want one.

Complete all six goals for every generation before moving onto the next one.

Complete the full aspiration and reach level 10 in the set career.

There is no rules when it comes to aging up but I suggest waiting until it is their set birthday.

BACKGROUND: Fabula was raised in luxury so decadent she relates very little to anyone she meets. Her razor sharp eye for style has led her to become the premier Fashion Stylist of the world. Her methods are harsh, complex and seen by most as excessively cruel... But Fabula will always gets results. When needing to decompress from the world of High Fashion, Fabula turns her talents to the kitchen. Fabula has fond memories of the exquisite dishes she would ask for in her childhood, often demanding incredibly difficult confections that required expensive ingredients and highly specialised techniques to create. As the exhausted chef would present young Fabula with her request, she would take one bite... savour....throw her head back and laugh then throw the entire dish to her pet crocodile, much to the chef’s dismay. PERSONALITY: A young journalist once described Fabula as a ‘Dusty old shark who fears fresh talent’, As someone who ‘talks about herself in the third person to the point its uncomfortable’, and that she ‘wears such strong perfume she can set off the fire alarm in neighbouring buildings’. Sadly the journalist is still listed as a missing person. Fabula enjoys the sound of people flinching as she walks past, the chill of the air turning cold with the click of her stiletto and hard german techno music at 7am. Hey ho there, feel free to ignore this and I hope I'm not bugging you as I awkwardly slide in here, but I must ask: if you had full creative control of the show, how would you run season 5? You can pick and choose whatever leaks you want to include.

Ah!!! Thank you for your ask <3 I might have spent a couple nights typing out my answer, but in short: I'd cherry pick old story arcs, bring back everyone I like and who doesn't run when they hear Riverdale's calling.

I'd definitely get some decent writers (I'm partial to Jane Espenson, but no idea if she'd be a good fit) and definitely some diversity. I might accidentally fire all men and then play up all their shitty recurring themes for fun as a weird inside joke between me and the show.

I think if they ever gave me creative control of the show it would swerf hard to the crazy and not leave that lane because honestly, i think that's what Riverdale does best.

So, where would I start...

Instead of giving season four a decent ending, I would start with an extra long pilot with the title 'previously on' where the best and most important bits of the teens' school lives is shown with a heavy focus on Jason and the Farm. Parallely, we get to see the lovestory of Chic and Charles. The episode ends with a few very short scenes of the prom where everyone's happy and pretty.

Then we'd start on the real season five. It's been seven years and our characters are older and more grown up.

The show would at first only present the present lifesbof our characters and the barest bones structure to keep as much a little mysterious as possible (but here I tell you what happened during timeskip, too).

Archie is often considered the main character, so let's start with him:

Archie went to the Army after school (though he didn't actually pass his exams and thus didn't graduate, Mr Honey was quite amused). On his most recent tour he met someone special: Eric, his new friend.

Archie was wounded in battle with a... giant mutated elephant with sharp teeth and hallucinogenic venom. Or something. He isn't really sure what happened, but he's got a huge new scar all over his torso. The abs stayed in tact, but oh his pride. During recovery he met new wheelchair user (and on occasion crutches) Eric who has trouble walking since his legs are misshapen/he only has one. Archie thinks Eric got maimed by the same elephant he was, but thinks it rude to ask.

For Eric I'm picturing Sabrina's Ambrose.

With his hurt pride, Archie can't stay with the military and decides to go back to Riverdale.

Eric doesn't have a place to go, so Archie invites him along.

They need a job and since Eric has a calendar full of sexy half naked firefighters AND since they both have abs, Archie decides that type of uniform is the perfect fit for them and trades his newly renovated and well running boxing gym against the old fire station Penelope Blossom owns. (Literally, they even meet at Pop's to exchange keys and sign papers Penelope brought that Archie doesn't even skim.)

The fire station is quite out of everything, but it has a huge pool Eric likes to swim in and a fire truck. To make ends meet Archie sells his sperm to the Greendale sperm bank.

Archie is of course in love with Eric but unfamiliar with the concept of bisexuality and struggles to identify his attraction for what it is. Eric is a foreigner to Riverdale (or is he?) and unfamiliar with the town's culture and quirks. Still, something going on in Sweetwater River seems to be related to him.

Archie and Eric share the Andrews' House - and in the house next door... live Gladys Jones and Polly Cooper!

After Jughead and Betty left for College Alice' horrid mom impulses settled on Jellybean who didn't stand back, grind her teeth and took it but instead broke Alice' teeth. Her and FP were not amused (though FP was also angry at Alice for being too strict). Alice moves out but stays as a journalist in town.

FP gets in trouble for being a brutal gang leader without a gang beating up criminals behind the boxing gym on tape. Not wanting to go to an illegal fighting club prison, he hides with Canadian Serpents behind the border. (Joaquin's identical twin brother and Ricky live there, too. They're happy there.)

Maybe he'd call once or twice with misleading wrong snake facts that have nothing to do with the current mystery of the episode but fit into perfectly by chance.

Jellybean was invited along, but she chose to stay because she thinks Riverdale is rad and the old Cooper House is luxurious as hell. Also, her mom came back to become the new Sheriff!

Nearly seven years in, Gladys still holds the position because no one legally qualified wants it and she manages to keep gang violence at an all time low for Riverdale. Plus, she and Mary Andrews are not exactly friends but able to work well together. When there's another serial killer running wild in town she has no problem with having another girlfriend of Mary who happens to be a skilled professional in the most relevant field take over for a bit. If needed, the Riverdale gangs are usually willing to add muscle to good causes, too.

Jellybean has left Riverdale for university and will only be present for holidays and breaks. She'd still be played by Trinity because I love her and honestly, real nineteen year olds look like fourteen year olds everywhere in the world. Also this gives the viewers 'Archie vision': he will always see his best friend's toddling baby sister in the young woman which makes her the only undatable (legal) female on this planet for him.

While attending Riverdale High she lead the Andrews Boxing Gym and made it the most successful gym in the area. It won't be a plot point in the show (apart from her being angry at Archie for just trading it against trash) but there will be framed newspaper articlesband the like in Gladys' house.

Around the time everyone graduated, Polly was released from Shady Grooves and is back to her old smart self - and really missing her babies! As Choni leave for whatever private college Blossom women have always gone to, Polly takes them and goes home - just to learn on the porch that not only did her mother sell her childhood home more than a year ago without anyone ever telling her, the college fund she never had gotten legal access to and planned to use for the twins is gone too and her sister left town without saying goodbye.

Gladys has always taken care of all the stray kids she found no matter how tight the budget was and now there's this young desolate mother with twin toddlers in front of her posh murder house she'd gotten for cheap and she has this new gig as sheriff. Of course, she takes them in.

They stay in Betty's old room at first, but they soon get to remodel the attic to give Polly her own room. At present, Dagwood has Polly/Chic/JB's old room and Juniper the one facing Archie's. (When Archie sees her in the room, he actually has a flashback once to when he and Betty used to be so young, but then Juniper turns her gead, stares at him really creepily and smiles weirdly. Archie will be somewhat scared from then onwards and be reminded of when everyone thought Polly might gave killed Jason. Juniper would murder.)

At first, Polly's a full time, stay at home mom, but once the kids are older, she starts working part-time: for Gladys.

It turns out they work amazing together. Gladys tends to jump to convenient conclusions and threatens violence way to freely. Also, she is intimidating as fuck.

Polly is everything she isn't: level headed (to a point, in comparison at least), brilliant at combining clues and steering people (remember how she infiltrated Thornhill and made Cheryl unknowingly assist in her snooping plans?). On top of that, she has these stepford smiles and all the ways to appear unthreatening drillend into her head. Honestly, she and Betty are quite alike. While Betty has the lockpicking skills and knows her way around cars, Polly used to be really into fashion (or something) and, with all her experiences at the Sisters, the Farm and Shady Groves, Polly knows psychology.

She started solving some of Gladys' cases at the breakfast table, but now she's officially a deputy or an advisor or something. They're essentially like FP and Jughead, just that Polly is an adult (and that she wouldn't be in a gang beating suspects up regularly).

(These characters would all be mostly in the background though.)

Veronica finally gained perspective on her relationship to her father and grew up. Hiram's cut out of her life for good. They won't ever interact. (In fact, Hiram either moved to New York or he had a minor traffic accident where he lost all of his memory for good and now lives as Ram Rod and works as a trainer at Penelope's newly acquired boxing gym. Everyone is confused about it but doesn't care to ask.)

Veronica is successful at whatever she's doing and doesn't plan on ever moving back to Riverdale, but maybe something is up at Pop's that requires her checking up on in person and she just happens to cross paths with Betty who is also just there for the weekend. And they haven't had quality time together for years, because it's so hard to stay in contact sometimes even with people you love so much you'd die to keep them safe.

If I could come up with something meaningful for them to catch up on emotionally, I'd have them sitting together in a booth at Pop's for a whole episode just talking (but I'm not that deep).

Veronica might be engaged, but we see it fall through without really getting to meet the guy. She mostly just talks to Betty about him on occasion but in a somewhat messed up way. Ultimately, she realises how she treats him in some regards like Hiram treated her and her mother. She wants to grow up further and not be like her father anymore. Since the fiance was only a trophy pawn, she breaks it off and concentrates on introspection/ maybe therapy for a bit.

Later that season her sister comes back and surprise: Hermosa embraced becoming Daddy.

(These would have to be restricted to two half episodes only, she definitely deserves story arcs that aren't about her dad.)

Careerwise: she has a couple businesses, maybe a restaurant chain or a franchise and she seems to collect startups. She reinvests a lot and has to travel quite a bit but can work remotely too.

Everyone seems to want FBI agent Betty and if I'd go that route I'd have her demask Charles as the fraude fake FBI who hires guns for hire and fake emergency teams while making up fantasy horror stories about serial killer genes to scare his biological family into killing each other that I wholeheartedly believe he is. But I also like Betty's interest in mechanics and would love for her to have a career in mechanical engineering. Maybe she switched majors at uni and now works for a company developing prosthetics. Maybe she tries to get Eric into joining a study. (I mean, prosthetic legs would help his work as a fire fighter...).

She's in town to visit Polly and the twins but after talking to Veronica she spontaneously stays in town. She can do her work remotely, really. The two of them move into a two bedroom 'shared bnb' (or whatever it was called in season two) and we finally get to see their friendship on screen.

Betty isn't in a relationship at the moment abd she's so into her work, she isn't looking for one either.

Jughead had broken up with Betty seven years ago and never really had a well working relationship after. He's grown obsessed with finding a way to recreate what he had with Betty.

Not in a totally creepy psycho way, he's simply not understanding that he might be sex positive and he had been in love with Betty, but he is ace and quite aro, too. It doesn't help, that he finds people sexually attractive on their online profiles just to be repulsed by the tought of even kissing them goodbye in person.

(I don't think tv is generally a fitting medium for this, but I guess he can narrate for himself and make it work.)

I guess he has to be an author. Obsessed as he is about finding love again (he wouldn't call it like that) he figures it had either been the location or the constant fear for his life. He chooses to return to Riverdale. He probably instantly moves with everything he owns to Riverdale (not that it's much beside a modern laptop, the typewriter and his camera).

Archie gives the great advice how Jughead is obviously still innlove with Betty, duh.

He of course runs into Betty some day, they end up investigating some random murder together and find themselves in familiar positions and kiss - but it just isn't there anymore. Jughead feels nothing and Betty isn't really into it either.

Veronica later points him in the direction of maybe not being allo (because she used to question herself as aro).

Funfact: Jughead would have failed graduation with Archie if Mr Honey didn't forge some records that weren't actually submitted from Stonewall (they claim all records were deleted during a power outage). Jughead knows and is deeply shamed.

Thornhill has been renovated! Toni is pregnant! Choni will be raising their kids (surprise, it's going to be twins!) in Cheryl's ancestral home. Choni are married and happy.

Toni has reopened the White Worm with Fangs somewhere at the Southside and yes, let's make her the official Serpent Queen. Let her work lots of social causes (remember toys for tots?), grey area rule bending for good and of course she works well with Gladys. I've seen talk about her being a social worker floating around and honestly, I think that works amazing. She's working the local cases (and a few unofficial ones) and I think she and Cheryl are registered foster parents. On occasion (like once) they'd be shown taking care of a random kid.

Cheryl used her College time to study two things: business and Riverdale town history. Remember how in season two she took so much pride in her ancestors because she believed them to be good people? She might be disillusioned but she is the Blossom heiress and her and Toni's as well as Jason's kids will one day inherit a better family legacy. She'll invest in Southside rebuilding projects, advocate for new town memorials, maybe rebrand some of the Blossom product lines. Something like that

She won't run for mayor yet, but she's definitely invested in (local) politics.

Of course the pregnancy was with artificial insemination, the donor was either an unsuspecting red head from the Greendale Sperm Bank or they use some of Jason's that has surly been saved to guarantee the Blossom line when everywhere was scary talk about sperm counts going down due to mobile phones.

In addition: the maple factories need worker bees! Cheryl has a few programs with Toni to get Serpents/random Riverdalians newly released from prison or just with bad luck into a steady job and a cushy appartement overlooking the ex prison on the Southside. Pop's is also participating. Ethel works as a landlady for said appartement complex.

Also, why not add a second Blossom-Topaz lovestory to underline this incest-adjacent show and bring back Toni's grandpa and set him up with Nana Blossom. XD

Then during this season's arc, the Blossom uncle's corpse will be found in the river and the mistery is whether the FBI will figure out who the corpse us and what happened or not.

I love Reggie. Since Varchie is unlikely thanks to Eric, him and Veronica rekindling their relationship would definitely be a possibility I'm into, but he also seems to have an interesting connection with Kevin and Fangs that could be built on.

He would definitely have a car he'd love very much and I think it would still be Bella.

I'm not sure about his career, but it wouldn't include his father's car dealership. Maybe he'd be a successful movie star just in town between movie shootings.

Kevin was doing something with musicals on Katy Keene, I think? Writing or directing? He was trying to nake it big, but some plans fell through. Now he's back in Riverdale. Luckily, they are just about to open Riverdale's first theater in the relatively newly built but forever closed prison. Next to the Southside Theater the complex holds a mall and the White Worm.

Fangs works full time as the manager of the WW that he co-owns with Toni. He meets Kevin again once he's back in town.

Sweet-Pea somehow ended up as a junior doctor at the Riverdale hospital. He spends all of his scarce free time at the WW.

Some of the background Pretty Poisons officially work for the police now. Different than Gladys, they are actually ccccc for the positions they hold.

Peaches works as a manager for one of Cheryl's companies. She's happily married and has a kid (or something).

How long in prison do you get in the US for standing in as the head figure of a crazy pen and paper cult that has literal murders committed in his name? As a blond white dude probably just parole? So honestly, once they actually bring his case to court (and they have nothing against him because anyone could have been under the mask at any one time and people know of different gargoyle kings) he's released of all charges. No one in Riverdale actually knows though since his case took forever, Bughead had already left Riverdale and Alice didn't step up to follow the case. No one wrote about it, so no one knows. They just assume that of course the guy will be locked away forever, he's guilty.

In reality, he and Charles have bought a house somewhere in a different street of Riverdale where they aren't quite known and have adopted a couple kids.

Charles meets Alice regularly for lunch and she thinks he's this workaholic FBI agent only living for solving crime. They play a long con game I don't know the goal of.

(They have been behind the tapes even if that storyline gets totally ignored. They pretend FP being in exile is their doing, but the tape responsible was just a random security camera in the area.)

Josie's plans in New York sadly fell through (I haven't seen any Katy Keene but I want her back)

Lot's of bonding scenes with her brother Kevin who's also back in town. The two share a flat and on occasion burst into song together. Since I've already invented the Southside Theater, maybe she'd find a job there, too.

Val and Melody stayed in Riverdale aftee highschool and made careers in town for themselves. Maybe Melody at city hall and Val as a marketing specialist at the farm, Riverdale's most outstanding new grocery mart. Half of all Riverdalians don't get the controversy of the name, the others either think it's brilliant or tasteless. (Kevin for example has repressed the nemories so gard, he doesn't get it. Josie is very protective and angry at Val for working there.) The store belongs to the eccentric redhaired Eva Everafter or whatever pseudonym Evelyn can come up with to thinly hide her identity behind.

Somewhere in it I'd throw in a few lines vaguely referencing older happenings like "I still can't drink tap water" and the very first time Veronica sees Archie again after seven years she identifies him through his ab muscles.

So in short: Archie would be very dumb, everyone else is just there.

Also: Pop's would serve 50% vegan burgers and milkshakes so I could dig in with gusto.

One day Eve was at a part where she ran into Chester. He acted as if nothing happened

He tried to blackmail her back into a relationship when she snapped and used her vine to pull him off the side of a small cliff and into a bunch of thorny vines 30 feet below. The fall killed him.

She teleports herself to Nightshade, gets Ivy and the two cover up the murder and her involvement best they can.

Eve moves back to London, resumes her life of fashion and novels. She gets a roommate named Vera, the two become thick as thieves and when both of their fathers tell them to move to Icaria. They do.

Eve now lives on Icaria with Vera.

Bonnie McCarthy never wanted anything more than to be her own boss. She spent the first 20 years of her life working one weird job after another until she landed a small-time position at Vogue. Over the next six years, Bonnie worked her way up until she was the assistant to the editor-in-chief. Then -- then she got stuck. A year later she married her boyfriend, and two years after that … two more years of not getting promoted, of not getting moved to a better position, Bonnie took all her knowledge, all her contacts and all of her skill, and left Vogue to open up her own magazine.

She was 30, but she had more drive and willpower than most, and within a year she had a magazine up and running. It was on the anniversary party of the magazine launch that Bonnie’s world got flipped on its head. She had just been enjoying her party, enjoying the drinks, the praise, the attention and celebration of the magazine growing so big in only one year. When she walked in on her husband having an affair; Instead of flipping on him, she quietly closed the door, returned to her party, and promptly found someone to sleep with. What she hadn’t been expecting was for that man to be Dionysus; what she hadn’t been expecting was three months later realizing she was pregnant and having no idea if it was her husband or the man from that lone night.

The answer wasn’t made any clearer six months later when little Eveleen McCarthy came screaming into the world. She looked most like Bonnie, no clear sign if it was the random man or her husband’s, or soon to be Ex-husbands. She had worked herself hard, accomplished so much that her husband asked for a divorce; he tried to claim half of her stocks, her money, her things, but when she brought up that she had caught him cheating and pointed to the clause in their prenup… well, he was left getting nothing. Bonnie brought little Eve to work and hired a nanny to keep them both close.

Raised mainly by a nanny Eve learned to read, write, and draw and once she turned 4? Well, then schooling started. Her baby sister, Hilary, was born, and attention was slowly beginning to shift. Her nanny read to them every morning, their mother every evening before bed. Eve started to devour books; she loved them and wanted nothing more than to read everything she could get her hands on. Her room, over the years, was filled with sketches of clothes and novels… hundreds of them lined her walls. Eve was addicted. She adored all books and could never get enough. By 6, Eve had been pulled into her mother’s world of fashion and modeling. She was used as the child model for almost every product that required a child Eve was used to flashing lights, to cameras, to people fawning over her. And while most children would fall into a self-righteous, big-headed, mentality, Eve stayed relatively calm and sweet. Maybe it was because, at the age of 10, Eve realized she wanted to write stories, and every time she showed her mother she was patted on the head and told: “That’s nice dear, but let's find you something that can actually earn you some money.” The idea was dismissed, ignored… and promptly forgotten about. Every time Eve tried to show her mom a story she wrote for class, the same thing was said, the idea dismissed.

Still, Eve kept a smile on her face and became known as the butterfly of Spellbound Magazine. She would move from one area of the magazine to another, fluttering in and out and bringing smiles and excitement wherever she went. As the magazine grew into an international seller and started to rival other magazines like Vogue and Elle, her family’s wealth and influence grew just as much. The attention that was brought on them wasn’t… new, but it was more intense and extreme. She was harassed and ripped apart even as a 15-year-old in the gossip magazines and online, she has ridiculed if even one hair was out of place or she wore not quite the right shoes to an event. This scrutiny caused Eve to do more research, to learn more from her mother, to study the magazine so carefully she could talk fashion with her mother and hold her own.

This fueled a passion and a will deep in her bones to tell off any magazine or journalist who had picked on on her to second guess what they said. So, she picked up her sewing machine and got to work. She started to make her own clothing. It took years of practice, a lot of failed attempts and cold words from her mother. She knew she wasn’t living up to her mother’s expectations… so she tried harder, stayed up until the sun rose, sewed until she felt like her fingers were going to bleed… and the first time she had gotten a small smile from her mother and a nod of her head Eve almost wept. Overjoyed Eve knew she was doing a good job, and every time someone asked who the designer was, she said herself or Spellbound. Slowly her work started to gain attention and her mother; ever the businesswoman capitalized on it. Eve started creating her own fashion line for teens and young adults. Her interest and talent in fashion and modeling lead Bonnie to start teaching Eve the ins and outs of running the company at just 16.

She started attending all the parties, dressed to the nines a smile on her face. This… was when she started noticing something a little different. Whenever her mother started planning a party, without her even being told, Eve knew. She’d appear at her mother’s door and ask if she could help with the planning. Sometimes she’d even be a bit unsure of how she knew or got to her mother’s room to ask the question. But once the party rolled around? Being there felt like being a kid finally let loose in a candy store. She felt energized and elated, as she wondered the parties she noticed those around her got more excited and happy as well. For years Eve chalked it up to her mother’s abilities to plan a good party. But she’d come to learn the real reason just after her 18th birthday.

How she learned of her godly parent started with her younger sister Hilary. She was 17 and showed Hilary the novel she had written. The novels she had tried to show her mother a week before and was brushed off about. Her sister, only 13, read it, burst into her room the moment she finished and told her to do something about it. To “ignore mom” and do what she wanted. That little push from an angry preteen was exactly what she needed. So Eve did just that. She looked into getting it published, she shopped it around to different agencies, talked to agents, got readers to go over it, and by the time she turned 18… she published her first YA novel under a pseudonym. She didn’t want her name and fame to affect how people viewed her book so she used a fake name, Jean Fink.

Her mother, surprisingly proud of Eve for successfully publishing a book, but probably more so for her latest line of clothes, threw her a party. It was here with all her friends invited, with everyone drinking and enjoying themselves that Eve noticed something. Having been gifted a bottle of wine, she popped it open, and upon the first sniff, she felt a new sensation. One she still can’t quite explain. But she and her friend started to drink, and she realized rather quickly -- that her friends were feeling the effects of the wine but she? She was fine. Handed a glass of whiskey a couple of hours later… she felt that. But the wine? It was like drinking grape juice. Yummy grape juice, but it had no side effects like the whiskey.

The party raged on, and as Eve got looser, her just being around the partygoers influenced them, it released more ecstasy and need to party the need to make it more chaotic. By 3 am the party was still raging, people were getting drunk; they were enjoying themselves it was wild and crazy, Eve stumbled outside of her house that night and sat in the garden. But when she touched the ground, a plant sprung up below it. Before her eyes, the plant grew into a small grape tree. She freaked out. Was she hallucinating? Was she drunk? Eve had a minor panic attack causing her to throw up -- not something wholly uncommon for her; she had been diagnosed with anxiety and bulimia at the age of 12, but this was major. She was unsure of what was happening. And to make matters worse -- a man appeared with a grin on his face and a wine glass in hand.

He explained himself to be Dionysus, the Greek god of wine, parties, homosexuals, plays and well, he was her father. Eve had never known or questioned her mother on her biological dad was. It had never been important… until now. He explained that this made her a demi-god; it allowed her to have powers and dominion over certain things. She asked so many questions and wasn’t satisfied until Diyonsus had explained it all and taught her a couple of tricks. Finally, calm and satisfied with what she learned, Eve started to approach life in a new way.

She started practicing, started testing her limits. She would teleport herself to parties around London, then around the UK and after some time? The world. Appearing all over the place, showing up in magazines and slowly earning the name of a party girl. She started growing vines wherever she could, and having Bonnie for a mother? She began to invest; she found some winery’s she enjoyed and invested money into them and every time she came she sent out a tendril of her powers and made the grapes grow big and flavorful. She partied hard, influencing those around her to enjoy themselves more, she slept around, she drank or smoke barely feeling the effects that others did. She was learning to master her powers.

But it was learning that her father was the god of plays, of drama and writing, that had the most profound impact on the woman. While her first YA book didn’t sell great, she started to dip her toes into other genres; Sci-fi and fantasy was written under the name Eden Allesan. But the one that picked up the most traction? Romance novels. This time under another pseudonym Lucy Ariadne. Lucy -- well Lucy became a well-known romance author in the span of three books published in under a year and a half. These were stories that Eve had written as a teen, fanfictions reworked into stories so separate it’d be hard to tell where the inspiration came from.

With her name and designs growing ever more popular, Eveleen figured it best to move to the one city where her red-carpet looks would do best. L.A. A city she knew she could do both of her passions; fashion and writing. She found an ad online for a roommate and -- before she knew it she met the girl, Harley, and the two were hitting it off. They became the best of friends spending all their free time together. When she wasn’t working or out partying she was hanging out with Harley. There were almost no secrets between the two women…. That was until she met Harley’s male best friend Chester; the two fell for one another and for the first time Eve actually settled down. She was 19, dumb, and in love and the three of them were thick as thieves...

TW: Rape and abuse

Until one day when she was awoken with her boyfriend overtop her, camera taking photos...and both of them were naked. She was in shock, unsure of what to do, what to say, and just clenched her eyes and hoped for it to be over soon. She tried to ignore it, tried to forget it, but it happened, again and again, and again. He started to try to control her, trying to control what she wore, where she went, and how she acted. He demanded to go with her everywhere she went, especially if it was where they would be seen in the public. He started using her for fame and notoriety. He told her that if she left him that he would release the photographs and video he had taken of them over the past seven months. Terrified of what would happen Eve did her best to just be the happy bubbly girlfriend she had been but slowly she worked on breaking the relationship apart, making him think it was his idea to end the whole thing.

And after four months -- it finally worked. He ended the relationship, they said it was mutual and “stayed friends.” She never let anyone know what happened, never spoke or even really thought much on it after it happened -- terrified of confronting what had happened to her over the past year. Terrified of those photos one day making it onto the internet. If you were to have met her or talked to her during this time, you never would have guessed he had spent the past year in such a state.

The next couple of years were a bit chaotic for Eve, she worked until her fingers bled, published three more novels, and completed two collections. She was back to being an overly motivated party girl. Sleeping around whenever it suited her and refusing to bend to anyone else’s whims, she was terrified of relationships and outright refused to be solely dedicated or to ever sleepover in anyone’s bed. She enjoyed her free time with Harley and her friends and looked forward to the next big thing.

Sadly the next big thing was her best friend moving across the country for a job. Heartbroken but excited for Harley’s big step up in the world, they promised to keep in touch. For the first couple of years they did, they texted throughout the day every day, things were great. Eve was working, she traveled more and wrote more and more novels. She designed clothing lines and got to debut them all over the world. She helped start up the American side of Spellbound magazine. Eve made friends across the globe, and for the first time in three and a half years she let herself actually feel something for someone. Ivy. Ivy had been a friend she met traveling abroad and the two quickly became travel buddies, jumping from country to country. They fell into friends with benefits sort of relationship with…. Slight feelings cropping up here and there. But what was most important to Eve? That Ivy was there for her through the good times and the bad.

TW: Murder/Death & Blood

One evening just before her 28th birthday Eveleen felt the call of a party on the coast of Maine. It was just starting at 5 pm, but it was already loud and chaotic and just the type of energy she needed. Halfway through the night was when the atmosphere, at least for her, changed. Chester. He had shown up at the party. He smiled at her waved her down and tried to act as if he hadn’t blackmailed and raped her for years. She kept it polite and sweet before moving on.

Three hours later she was standing over his body, he was strangled and tangled up in the vines she had conjured on the outskirts of the property just off the side of a small cliff. Facedown, a drink inches from his hand, blood oozing from multiple pricks along his skin as the vine dug deeper and deeper. He had threatened to release the photos of her if they didn’t resume their relationship... and Eve snapped. She felt nothing as she watched his last breath leave him, she felt nothing as she turned her back and teleported away to a party where Ivy was at. She felt nothing until she collapsed into Ivy’s arms and told her what she had done in a back room of a club that the woman had owned in Icaria. After pouring her story out to the once assassin she teleported them back to the party where the two women cooked up a plan to cover Eve’s tracks. They made their way into the main part of the party, they talked to anyone and everyone they could, took photos and made their alibi as being in the party and inside as strong as possible. They knew Eve had already been seen arriving so there was no hiding that she had been there. But a couple of minutes she was gone? They wrote that off as a trip to the bathroom, a trip to touch up makeup and gossip. They convinced everyone that they had never left to go outside.

They made it seem as if she had only said hello to her ex in a very public setting and turned her back to continue enjoying her time. He wasn’t found until the next morning when the staff was cleaning up the grounds after the party. But by then? It didn’t matter, Eve was long gone, having returned to London, to work with her mother. The corner ruled it an accident, a drunk man stumbled off the side of the cliff, they ruled the fall as the cause of death and the vines as insuring a fatal blow practically impaling himself on thousands of little needles.

For the next six months, Eve stayed in London, working with her mother on running Spellbound and when her father appeared to her one day and asked her to move to Icaria for her own safety. She decided the change of scenery would be nice…. Besides her roommate and best friend, Vera’s father had appeared and told her the same. So the two packed up their lives and moved to the isle so many others had already made a home on.

I wrote fiction for the first time in forever.

Duets

Gozha smiled in a way that he hoped was reassuring. “Look, I know my request seems ridiculous—”

“It is dramatically unsafe, sir—”

“—and it may seem like a rather prosaic, proletarian, possibly even precocious use of your pyromantic prowess—”

“We don’t want to choose how people worship, sir, but this is just—”

“—but I came all this way—”

“The distance you’ve travelled is immaterial, sir—”

“—and I would really quite like to eat these deliciously spicy peppers while they are infused with elemental flame.”

The Regathan monk stared at him.

“And stuffed with this cheese I acquired from a terrific little town near Jhessia.”

The monk still stared.

“Pyromantic peppers. It’s the obvious next step in hot food. You could make it a business."

Silence.

"I’m prepared to make a very large donation to your temple if you allow this hagiography to heat.”

The monk thought for a moment, then stepped back. "Please, come in. I suppose if nothing else, the Abbess may be entertained by your request.”

“Thank you so much!” Gozha beamed, and proceeded into the hall. Good. There was always a chance the holy types would see his horns, red eyes, lavender skin, and generally demonic countenance and take it as an opportunity for some smiting. He hated that. He’d spent more than thirty years as a fencer and duelist in Valor’s Reach before becoming a commentator and journalist on the sport, while his clerical opponents had usually spent about two or three years across the piste from a training dummy. It’s never fun when the “demon” wins.

“Sir, are you alright? You keep scratching at those scars.”

“No, I’m fine. You’ve got quite the calm countenance, though. I usually unnerve people.”

"We are… used to strangers here at Keral Keep. In fact, there is another visitor who you might be able to help us with. You are azra, yes? From a place called Kylem?”

Gozha’s eyebrows shot up.

“Did it hurt when you lost most of that one horn? I’ve never known someone with horns, or who’d lost one, to ask.”

He paused. “If my mouth still moves after I pop those pyro-peppers, I’ll tell you the tale."

"Fair enough.” The monk folded his hands within his robes. “I ask because our visitor comes from Kylem, and you might be able to assist her. She is quite young, and in distress.”

“… Are you alright? I look like several people fought me for their souls and won. I’m not the type to have cherished children in my charge.”

"Well, if I may—you have traveled across many different realms solely for the experience of putting peppers infused with literal, actual fire in your mouth. You have more dueling scars than I have summers, you have more gray hair than I have hair, you are clearly far too busy to shave, and if the way you move is any indication you are either a swordsman or a dancer of some skill.”

“What if I’m both?” Gozha grinned.

“Then I will begin developing my powers of prophecy as well as pyromancy. Regardless. You remind me of the Abbess in many ways. You’ve got a reassuring way about you, despite,” he waved at Gozha, “all this."

Before he could ask what that meant, the monk continued. "Anyway, our charge is here in the mess hall, and hopefully calm. I’ll leave you to her and go ask after the Abbess.”

“What’s your name, by the by? I’m Gozha.”

The monk smiled beatifically. “I’ve learned not to give my name to your type. Your enemies tend to follow you, and I don’t need more ruckus.” He moved off down the hall.

The duelist watched the monk proceed through shaft after shaft of light from the windows, finally at a loss.

“Excuse me mister, are you from Ky—GOZHA!”

A tiny soratami cannonball launched itself into his legs. Gozha was nearly bowled over by the impact.

“Hey… you!” he grinned, as he desperately tried to recognize the child he found himself hugging. “It’s great to greet you! How’ve you been?”

He had misjudged—she wasn’t happy, she was sniffling and crying. That wasn’t a happiness cannonball, that was a comfort-me cannonball. “I can’t go home,” she said. “Can you help me get home?”

“Maybe!” No duets, now. This was serious. He kneeled, brushing her tears away. Black eyes. Where had he seen a soratami child with black eyes before? “Where’s home?”

“You were there! You were there for two whole days one time with Daddy and three other people! You never left the bedroom, though. And there were lots of bottles. And noises. I heard—”

“You heard us having fun, yes, the way consenting adults do,” he hastily interrupted her. “And there were many bottles. I remember now, Megumi. I didn’t know you could planeswalk!"

She nodded. "Mommy and Daddy took me on lots of trips. But then the one-eyed lady came and almost killed me with her sword… a-and I had to get out.” She twisted the bottom hem of her shirt between her hands. It was stained with tears. “I can’t go home, though. I need to go home. Can you help me?"

"Well, maybe. I’ll try. Come over here.” He took her hand and led her to one of the mess hall benches. A half-eaten meal sat on a plate nearby.

“Listen carefully, Megumi. When you planeswalk, you have to sort of… aim yourself for where you’re going. It’s not an exact science. Can you do that? Can you aim yourself at home?”

She shook her head. “I’m trying! But every time I try it doesn’t work. And I don’t wanna try again because it’s safe here.” Those big black eyes squinted at him. “You need to shave.”

“… Yeah, you’re Wren’s kid alright.” He rested his chin in his palm and looked at her. “Which means you’re Kuro’s kid. Which means you’ve probably got a plan all worked out, am I right?” He winked.

She nodded happily. “Yup! I’m going to wait here. It’s safe here. And they know what planeswalking is, which means other planeswalkers might come here and help me go home. Like you!"

"Like me, yes.” He smiled. An awful feeling was brewing in the pit of his stomach. “You’re sure you can’t, kind of… ” He made several small, useless gestures. “… aim yourself? If you think really hard about home, does that work?”

“No.” She scrunched her face up like she was concentrating. “No. She might still be there with her sword. It's too much. I'm too scared.” She looked up at him. “Can you hold my hand?"

He swallowed hard. "No, Megumi, I’m sorry, I can’t. It doesn’t work that way for me."

She started crying, as he knew she would. Poor thing.

"Hey, hey now,” he said, out of his element. “It’ll be okay. It’ll be okay. Here,” he pulled the plate of half-eaten food over, “have some dinner. Food always makes me feel better.” He tried to smile.

She pushed it away. “I tried that. I don’t like it.” She sniffed. “It’s too spicy."

He pushed his sudden spark of joy aside. "What does make you feel better?"

"I like when you do duets,” she murmured, looking up at him. “They’re so clever.”

“Well, what a wonderful wish we have here!” he grinned, his mind racing. “Whereupon a wee wayward wanderer waits and wants for what? A wild wyrd of weird words and wanton whimsy! What fun!”

Megumi giggled. “So many! Aren’t there just supposed to be two at a time?”

He winked again. “Can a blarney bairn blame me for boosting her beautiful bunny-ears with the best benificence my booming baritone can blast?”

She giggled again. “No, she can’t!” Despite himself, he began to understand Wren’s choices a little more.

“I can!”

Gozha spun, which put his jaw in perfect position for the incoming punch. He saw stars and darkness. He heard Megumi scream, but it was cut short by a rush of warm air.

Someone grabbed his collar, pulled him off the bench, and threw him up against a stone wall. He could feel a foreign fear start to steal through his chest. Terror magic.

“You know, there’s one thing I never understood about you, Gozha,” a snarling female voice said. “Why do you always alliterate?”

“Like that?”

“Shut up.” A single, huge hand gripped his lapels and lifted him several feet in the air. The fear magic was making his vision tunnel – all he could see was one enormous, furious eye and some cheekbones. “Why do you do those irritating ‘duets’? Call and response. Everything’s an alliteration. Like you don’t have anything interesting to say.”

He tried to muscle down on the cold fingers of terror magic working their way through his heart, but they gripped harder, paralyzing him. “Maybe I just don’t want to tell you all the tantalizing tidbits. ,” he said, desperate. “Maybe I save all my curious curios and glorious gossip for when you’re gone."

"Filthy azra,” she growled, letting go. He collapsed to the ground. He barely felt her enormous boot as it crunched into his ribcage. "Where did she go?”

“The wee wanderer? Whither and whence.” He forced out a tremulous laugh and spat blood. “If you try, I’m sure you’ll trip over her. But I’d rather hinder than help, frankly.”

“I know,” the huge, muscular woman said, crouching down. “You’re Gozha. Washed-up old fencer. A coward. Eking out money writing about the games at Valor’s Reach. Probably living on a pittance in some tenement somewhere. So much for the old glory, huh?” Her voice took on a taunting, terrifying, childish lilt. “Aren’t all planeswalkers supposed to be great wizards? Where’s your magic, huh? What’s your special talent?”

“Swordsmanship and shit-disturbing.” He smiled through the blood starting to cloud his vision and the icy hand on his heart. He could barely see. “You’re wasting time. The wee wanderer’s ‘walked three or four more times by now. Better go catch her. And pray her parents and I don’t fetch you first.”

“Excuse me, did you require the services of Keral Keep in some fashion, or did you wish to continue abusing our guest here?”

The huge woman snarled and stood. “I will kill you!” she growled. “I will kill you in a way that makes your brothers weep to hear your name." Seeing that she was three full heads taller than the monk, she advanced on him. Her smile was a terrifying thing. "What is your—”

She was interrupted by a slim lance of flame that pushed itself through her sternum in the blink of an eye. Gozha hadn’t even seen the monk make a gesture with his hands. The cyclops woman screamed and vanished, with other, fainter screams chasing after her. The icy hand around his heart let go. The lance of flame became smoke. In its place, the air seemed to grow colder, almost biting.

“I don’t give you people my name,” said the monk. He looked at Gozha. “Are you alright?”

Gozha grunted.“Yes.” He stood. “I spoke with your… guest, before we were interrupted. She left, but she’ll be okay, hopefully soon.”

The monk helped Gozha over to a bench. “That is good to hear."

"That’s a good trick, with the flame, there. Very quick. I’m impressed.”

“It has proven useful,” said the monk. “It’s easy to get rid of your kind. The first lick of flame, the first hint of true danger, and you vanish, off to somewhere safe.” He eyed Gozha. “But you stayed. Why did you stay?”

"Had to give the little one time,” said Gozha carefully. Cracked ribs ground against his lungs. “I’d never met the big one before, but I know her type. She likes pain and she’s easy to provoke. Keep her talking, give her something to punch or kick, and she’ll take all the time in the world to do it.”

The monk regarded him for a long moment. “I see I was right to compare you to the Abbess.” He stood up. “I’ll make sure a room is prepared for you and a healer ready. The Abbess isn’t here today, but she’ll likely return soon. And by then, we’ll have mastered the proper techniques for imbuing your peppers with Regathan flame.”

Gozha grinned around the blood. “So you won’t refuse my request.”

“It is a ridiculous request.”

“And 'dramatically unsafe’, if I recall.”

“Which means the Abbess should enjoy it a great deal,” said the monk. “Goodnight, Gozha. Meditations begin at six bells tomorrow. I will see you then.”

“Goodnight… ” said Gozha, trailing off. He still didn’t know the monk’s name. Nor, for that matter, where Megumi went.

But he did a good thing today, and he was going to taste those delicious peppers soon. And that would have to be enough for now.
