Warnings!

Random plot convenient falling, reader misses their friends, reader technically isn't the last one standing but Alastor and Niffty aren't getting redeemed anytime soon and Charlie and Vaggie are just vibing there, some parts got mangled.

You came to the hotel back when it was still a crummy building that no sinner had any Faith in, ran by a delightfully delusional princess, you and another sinner who went by the name Angel dust were the first residents, then Alastor came along with Husk and Niffty.

You grew close with the people inside the hotel, they became your friends, your family, you watched as tensions grew, as friendships were forged, you helped fight for that crummy hotel, you watched your friend sacrifice himself, you watched as that crummy hotel crumbled onto the ground, you helped rebuild it, you watched as heaven agreed to let sinners be redeemed

You watched as a few sinners entered the hotel in hopes of being redeemed, you watched as your friends moved on.

Universe surrounds, when you're ready

Angel dust or now known again as Anthony was the second to be redeemed after Pentious, he got sober, he worked on himself and it paid off when that shining light came down on him as he faded away up like spiderman, chain being washed away, his soul being returned to him his last act before going up was reaching out to a tearful Husk, Charlie was ecstatic, it was a bittersweet moment, he was redeemed yes, but you wouldn't see him again.

Husk was next, no one was expecting him to be redeemed next but apparently he was ready, another tearful goodbye, Alastor wasn't pleased as he watched Husk fade away, his chain breaking.

He grabbed Fat nuggets as he went up taking the pig with him.

It waits for us to, to leave this earth

With not one, not two but three known sinners being redeemed more sinners came flocking, and with time getting redeemed

Come on, they're calling your name out

One by one they bonded together, you bonded with them, new friends, new family, you got attached.

And then they left, with that shining light, that heavenly light that meant that they had been redeemed, that all they had been working for hadn't been for not, that light that meant you were being left behind once again.

I don't know

You didn't know what was keeping you from reaching above,

That was a lie you knew why, despite Charlie's encouragement, despite the promise of seeing your friends again you just couldn't let go.

You never thought things would get this far, you didn't think redemption was possible and so you weren't pushing for it and even if you were

You were scared to go above, you only just figured out how to live down here, you would have to relearn everything.

Everything you had gained down here you would lose and you'd have to gain everything back again.

You were scared you'd see the people you had done wrong in life, or worse the people you treated well, the ones you adored, you'd have to explain why you ended up below, what you did if you did anything at all.

You were scared to lose the new friends you had made.

I could stay or leave

Time continued, more people got redeemed, and you stayed, There was a whole thing with the Vee's, Alastor's deal and Lilith but that passed.

Things changed, people left.

You still had Charlie, Vaggie, Alastor and Niffty and the new hotel staff that had joined after, but they changed our periodically as they got redeemed.

Either way

You wondered if eventually Alastor and Niffty would leave too?

This hotel was Charlie's everything, and Charlie was Vaggie's everything, they wouldn't leave.

'Cause the comet can take us

They ended up leaving, only temporarily though! After all having a honeymoon in the hotel they lived in and spent the majority of their time in wasn't the best option, they decided to take a trip to one of the other rings.

They could do that, while you like every other sinner in the pride ring were stuck there, with the false pretense of freedom to do whatever when in all reality you were stuck in that ring like cattle.

All the way through

In their absence another sinner was redeemed and you got thinking,

Goodbye, same heaven

Redemption wasn't for you, maybe you should move out of the hotel, after all you had been there for what, over two decades now?

New, new world

You sighed as you made your decision.

Once Charlie and Vaggie returned you waited until they were done basking in whatever they were basking in and back to business, you sat them down and just explained that while you wouldn't trade your time at the hotel for anything you didn't think redemption was for you, at least not now maybe in the future.

You weren't too sure about that last part but a white lie never hurt anybody right?

"I think I might move out of the hotel, you know to find myself maybe? Visit other parts of the pride ring, and I'll come back, maybe as staff? I mean I've been here for what twenty years now? Can't exactly leave that all behind, right?" You said as you sat across them, they were sat on the couch and you across from them.

You remember when Angel dust used to be weird on that couch.

You wondered how he was doing, and husk, did they have alcohol in heaven? Was he still a bartender?

Goodbye, same heaven

Charlie sighed, you didn't want to look her in the eyes, was she disappointed?

"We'll support you in anything you do, if you decide to leave that's alright," Vaggie popped up first,

"And if you want to stay and try again trying to get redeemed that's alright too, [Name] you're practically family you'll always have a place here at the hotel!" Charlie added as she took your hands in hers.

New, new world

Tears swelled up in your eyes as you hugged the couple, you were glad to call them your friends.

You couldn't just up and leave them, even for eternal paradise!

You were just leaving temporarily, and then you'd come back as a staff member! Maybe once the guy that took Husk's place as the bartender got redeemed you could take his spot, you'd be a great bartender, or maybe some type of manager?

You closed the suitcase that contained your things, they said they'd keep your room for you, so you decided to just take the essentials, after all you were coming back,

Pictures of friends, redeemed and unredeemed, old and new were hung on the walls over your bedroom, you traced your fingers over them gently, stopping at one particular picture, it was taken after the hotel was rebuilt.

You, Charlie, Vaggie, Alastor, Niffty, husk, angel dust, etc everyone was there,

It was bittersweet to know that you would never see them again but they were in a better place, you bet that Cherri and Sir Pentious got together up there, you bet that Angel and Husk were doing great, you bet that the friends you made after them were too! Like that one butterfly cannibal who came in with her sister and younger sibling, she was redeemed a while after them you were sure they reunited and were happy!

Reason to see, everything looks the same

You wished you could talk to them again, you missed chatting with Angel, talking about stupid stuff or dressing up in different outfits, you missed hanging out at the bar with Husk watching intently as he pulled out a magic trick he had learned back when he was alive.

You missed kidnapping one of the Eggy bois and holding them hostage until Sir Pentious would teach you how to make a war weapon, you missed causing havoc with Cherri bomb, you missed your friends.

I don't know if the change made was great

You sighed taking the picture off your wall and tucking it gently into your jacket,

'Cause the craving remains the same

You pulled the suitcase containing some clothes and other belongings down the hotel stairs, exchanging greetings and goodbyes with other residents.

Goodbye, same heaven

You decided to go for one last drink at the bar, just for fun, you wouldn't be back for a while, maybe in seven years?

New, new world

The guy that replaced Husk chatted with you, he was nice but he wasn't like your dearly departed friend, he slid you the drink of your choice and you drank it, Vaggie and Charlie eventually joined you and the three of you chatted about whatever.

It happened quick, no one had noticed Niffty had somehow climbed onto the chandelier, determined to dust it.

Goodbye, same heaven

The chandelier snapped and down it went, Niffty managed to hand onto the wire attached but that snapped right after, sending the Niffty down heading straight for the broken chandelier, you didn't think and just launched yourself forward to grab her.

"That was a close one, you alright Niff?" You asked as Niffty hopped out of your arms,

"I'm fine thanks [name]!" She said before she scrambled to start cleaning up the chandelier.

New, new world

Charlie and Vaggie moved to inspect the damage speaking amongst themselves about the fallen plot convenient chandelier, you dusted off your clothes and downed the rest of your drink deciding this was a great time to skaddle,

"Well, I guess this is my sign to leave, until we meet again my friends!" You said fully intending on booking it out before another chandelier fell, you could send Alastor a postcard or something with goodbye on it.

Charlie turned towards you to give you a goodbye hug but paused and nudged Vaggie.

Much to your surprise that familiar heavenly light shined down on you, you looked at Charlie and Vaggie,

"I-, How?!" You turned your focus as you began to fade away, Charlie smiled tears swelling up in her eyes, she shed those same tears for others who've been redeemed before you, Vaggie placed a hand on her shoulder and looked you in the eyes.

"You've earned it, after all these years you've finally earned it."

(Goodbye) I'll be waving

"Why? Please I don't," you gasped desperately trying to stop whatever this was, tearings falling as you began floating upwards, "I don't wanna go!"

"It will be alright, you've earned a place up there! You see everyone again!"

You reached out towards the two of them, Charlie held up her hand to you but it was just out of reach.

I'll be waving

"We can't stop it, I'm sorry but it's a fresh start!" She said in an attempt to comfort you.

"It was a pleasure working with you all these years my friend! I wish you luck on your next endeavors!"

When did Alastor get here? He wasn't helping! Why was he so cheerful about this? Screw him! Not in a sexual way but in a 'I hope someone recreates your traumatizing death on you again' way

"Thanks feelings are returned but that's not helping here Al!"

(Goodbye) I'll be waving

You weren't getting out of this, were you? You pulled your arm back, accepting your fate that you couldn't undo this.

Redemption wasn't for you, you would've dropkicked Niffty if you knew this was going to happen!

You were almost gone now, you weren't ready but you didn't have a choice, after all these years this is what gets you redeemed?? Was the scale finally tilted with good deeds over your sins??

"I did, I really did, This place was the best part of my afterlife," it was time, you shut your eyes you managed out a pathetic.

You opened your eyes to see clouds and blue skies, blue, you hadn't seen blue skies in who knows how long, you look around anxiety crept into you, where were you supposed to go? Where were you supposed to stay? What was supposed to happen, could you undo this? You didn't get a chance to dig into those thoughts when you heard landing behind you.

"Hello! You must be another one of the residents of Charlie's hotel! I'm Emily! welcome to heaven!" She said reaching out a hand for you to shake, you glanced up at her taking a second before shaking her hand,

"Yeah I guess, I'm [name] can I go ba-"

"[Name]? Oh! I've heard all about you! About time you got up here, Your friends have been expecting you!" She said interrupting you with a smile as she pulled you by your hand dragging you into the heavenly city, you took in your surroundings it was much different then hell, the air smelled clean, the streets shined, it was beautiful.

You'd have to start all over again.

Brushing a hand into your jacket pocket you felt a piece of paper, you still had that picture.

You'd get to see some of your friends again at least, unfortunately it was at the expense of leaving many others behind.

wait.. i’m literally on here or weibo almost 24/7 ( as you can tell lol ) but I feel like i missed something. i’m seeing clowning related to xz’s photos and how it looks like he is a groom and it’s a wedding photoshoot. the place is also famous for wedding shoots ( allegedly, idk. i’m not from there ) so turtles are imagining again. lol. freakin coincidence that wyb’s GRA photoshoot was done at a wedding shop. plus the “wedding outfits” for weibo night. which is all clowning and galaxy braining.🌌

now, we’re joking around, like where’s yibo? he should be taking photos with his partner.

then i see comments that there is this one song WYB recently listened to. meaning, as recent as when XZ flew to singapore which is called 超人不会飞 (superman can’t fly) by Jay Chou. i know WYB and everyone else is a big fan of Jay Chou but the clowning comes from the timing of when he listened to it. let me get to that first.

turtles are interpreting it as WYB longing to “fly” to where XZ is and be with him but he can’t because of all his work commitments. he wants to take a breather. thinking about what his life is and the constraints, and at times like this, when they spent days in Beijing, but now they have to be apart, it affects him even more.

however when i read the lyrics, it could also be because he can relate to what jay chou is singing about. here’s the english translation i found here. i have bolded the ones i felt like WYB relates too. literally no need for explanation. just read it. It fits with his status in life so much that it’s almost scary.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with how cpfs are relating this to cpn cause that’s just how it is. But sometimes, there are other reasons why they do what they do.

SO MY CONFUSION COMES FROM HOW THE HELL DO PEOPLE KNOW WHAT HE RECENTLY LISTENED TO. I can’t seem to dig up how or maybe it’s something we don’t talk about. I have never experienced this kind of tidbit related to them before so I wanna know the source. Or is this like the gaming cpn where certain people know and they will not divulge the boy’s account for privacy? if anyone knows, feel free to comment. If i find out in the future, I will share.

Aphmau headcanons yay!!

(Except its just four main characters and a handful of miscellaneous headcanons because writing more than that is too much effort and also painful)

Aphmau

She has ADHD that's usually inattentive but sometimes is hyperactive

Both a cat and a dog person

Had a bit of an anger problem in high school but is much better at anger management as an adult

Because of her half-werewolf blood her teeth are slightly more pointy

Listens to dubstep and 2000-2010s pop music

Has chronic insomnia but can and will sleep the entire day away

Rejection sensitive dysphoria. Would do anything to make sure you don't hate her

Would chug a bottle of imitation vanilla extract to prove she's sorry

Super competitive though

Aaron

It gets really cold where he lived so he used to draw stick figures in the frost on his bedroom window

Has a few tattoos, nothing serious, just a moon on his back and a full sleeve inspired by his favorite band (okay so a bit serious)

Listens to exclusively rock but is fine with Aphmau’s pop music. He doesn't get it, but he loves her too much

He got the tattoos like right when he was free from his dad and now he kinda regrets them, but he has to admit, the full sleeve is fuckin awesome

Writes songs for his guitar, although he doesn't show anyone because they range from love songs about Aphmau to full blown vent songs about his PTSD from his dad

Speaking of his PTSD, he gets frequent nightmares and even when he doesn't or when he can't remember his nightmare, he'll still jolt awake in a cold sweat

Used to have a pet rock that he'd throw at kids who bothered him

His dad made sure to take care of that one

Still draws stick figures on frosted glasses, but while as a kid he'd draw his family, he now draws his friends and Aph

Actually decently friends with Garroth and Travis. They shit talk people together

There was once one time Aaron hung out with Laurence, Garroth, Dante, and Travis, and they ordered pizza but they couldn't pay so they played rock paper scissors to see who would negotiate and Dante lost, so he attempted to sway the pizza guy into lowering the price while fucking 6'5 Aaron stood ominously over Dante, piercing into the guy's soul

It never worked again though

Hanami (Kawaii~Chan for the uninitiated)

Autism

Is the token straight friend although she acts super gay, like she doesn't like girls but she *will* kiss the homies goodnight

Bakes even though meif'wa literally cannot have sugar

She has perfected her own recipes for sugar-free, sugar, and sweetened cupcakes

When she's angry her whole body scrunches up. Like she tenses, her ears lay flat on her head, her arms are pressed tightly to her sides, and her face scrunches up

Has almost sent Lucinda to the hospital because they'd get in play fights and meifwa claws are sharp

Best girl scout in the business. Literally created her own cookie because of her love of experimenting with baked good

Would eat plain rice. Just a ball of plain white rice

When startled, she jumps like three feet horizontally

Always lands on her feet. Except for when she doesn't

Knows how to sew and often modifies her clothing to add more ruffles and bows. When Katelyn wanted to put on a play her and Cadenza worked on the costumes together

Super competitive also

Highly empathetic. It's to the point that people being upset around her can get very overwhelming very fast

Ran a meif'wa colony in high school. She was often underestimated by the other colonies but she ended up being front and center a lot of conflicts and her colony remained standing after The Jury

She only has like three people in it though. Aimi (OC because there aren't enough meifwa), Xin (OC because there aren't enough meifwa), and June

Zane

Autism

Also has asthma, ASPD, depression and PTSD

Like pick a struggle 🙄

Was in a gang in high school but luckily has a rich daddy who can afford a lawyer to get Zane out of the legal trouble

Greatly regrets it now as like his only options for work are minimum wage and Aphmau and Aaron’s business

Lacks a lot of empathy but still good at comfort. He just somehow knows the right things to say even if he doesn't really get what they're upset about

Not actually emo, he's goth. He was emo back in high school because Gene is emo but only knew My Chemical Romance. He realized that he actually much preferred goth music and had a trad goth phase in college before settling on just more casual outfits during a massive depressive episode

How much Zane dresses up is a legitimate indicator of his mental health

Is he just wearing sweatpants and hoodies? Depressive episode

Is he wearing jeans and jewelry? He's fine

Also genderfluid (he/him or she/her, depends what gender hes presenting as)

Didn't really explore that side of himself until he was friends with Aphmau

Trauma :(

Dottie, Daniel, and Blaze were in an open relationship until, yknow, Blaze kinda died

After that, Dottie and Daniel continued dating but decided to close their relationship until they properly got over Blaze dying right in front of them

The Shadow Knights are also dating, but they specifically date after high school after they went through their character arcs and became better people

Sasha dated Michi once

You can imagine how bad it was

Yeah, that’s pretty much it, but it’s pretty definitive. He doesn’t really experience sexual attraction until a little bit after they start dating idk what you want me to say

I wouldn’t say he’s aromantic or aro-spec bc it was more that he was in love with Mo Ran for years, but he’s definitely ace-spec. If he wasn’t, he’d probably be attracted to SOMEONE, but he’s explicitly not even sexually attracted to Mo Ran (who he has a crush on) until much, much later (like, after getting together later), from what I remember.

And in comparison, Mo Ran… experiences a lot of sexual and romantic attraction to different people but doesn’t seem to show/experience it as much after he falls in love with Chu Wanning. It’s clear that he had it for other people, but he’s now devoted to Chu Wanning; even if he was attracted to someone else, I doubt it would be mentioned. Chu Wanning, however, definitely has not experienced sexual attraction to anyone other than Mo Ran, and that was only AFTER they started dating.

He shows no interest in either sex or romance, despite meeting many people he'd describe as beautiful. Found a neat lifehack for having children without the pesky inbetween process, and has since picked up a bunch of disciples. When thinking about his future he doesn't considered marriage, or romantic relationships, as future goals. At one point we get a side character's POV, who talks about the many lovestruck people around him. Said romantic attention just never shows up in his own POV.

i read the manga during my last year of uni and when i tell you i SOBBED at the end... yes ofc for obvious reasons, but mostly bc my little Levi loses EVERYTHING. He is the SOLE survivor of the veteran scouts. He's missing multiple fingers, an eye, and the ability to walk. He was the strongest (yowaimo) but wasn't even granted the mercy to die at the end of his narrative! Broke my fucking heart.

Round 2 Is Here! The Which MXTX Character do You Most Want to Study Like a Little Bug Tournament Bracket

For an explanation of what my deal is or links to finished matches, look here. Otherwise, let's have some fun facts about round 1:

The closest match from round 1 was Mobei-jun vs Lan Wangji, in which Lwj won by a tiny margin of 2%. Wen Chao vs Jin Zixun technically had the same final numbers, but the Mbj vs Lwj poll had many more total votes and a lot more variation as to who was in the lead while it ran, so I'm counting it as the narrower victory.

The biggest win margin in round 1 was Song Lan vs Jiang Cheng, in which Jc got a whopping 85% of the vote. Sorry, Song Lan.

The most total votes in round 1 went to Liu Qingge vs Feng Xin, with 281 total votes between them. The notes would like Liu Qingge under a microscope.

The fewest total votes in round 1 went to Wen Chao vs Jin Zixun, with only 102 votes between them. Truly nobody cares about those assholes.

@microcomets prompted me to do a 2022 ao3 wrapped! thanks for the tag, claire!

Works Published: 14

Total Word Count: a personal record by a huge margin: 380,985.

Most Popular by Kudos: “awake, o sleeper” (207k), a ranwan modern cultivation au, in which mo ran comes back to sisheng peak after five years of absence, and soon later, chu wanning begins to be plagued by strange dreams.

Most Hits: same as above, by virtue of posting that monster of a story in chapters.

Longest: again, it was “awake, o sleeper” at 207k, which is also the longest story i've ever completed! i'm super proud of this!

Shortest: “the song of good hope” at 3.2k - a suitang futurefic i wrote for a small friend zine!

Fic that made me cry: i'm sure there have been others, but i read “grief. grief. handing you back your coin” by @it-goes-on last week and it made me ugly-cry, so thank you.

Fic that made me smile: “distraction management” by @sinsensory (26k, semantic error, jaeyoung/sangwoo) made me laugh out loud several times.

Events participated in: so many events! i participated in four bigger exchanges: mxtx exchange, danmei fanworks exchange, mxtx remix and yuletide; did two small server exchanges (one of which has yet to reveal); participated in the wangxian wlw week; took part in a small friend zine; and wrote two raffle fics!

Most Underrated Fic: i don't think any of my fics are underappreciated/underrated, honestly, because i'm really fortunate to receive a lot of incredible feedback, but in general, any and all small fandom fics are always a safe bet if you want to absolutely make someone's day with kudos or a comment!

Coming in 2023: ooooh boy, here we go... i have nine fics on my current to-write list: 1) the sequel to my yuletide king: eternal monarch fic, which i've already started working on; 2) a [redacted] fic for a small discord friend exchange i'm participating in, also in progress; 3) 5+1 king: eternal monarch fic about all the times jo yeong hooked up with other people (and the one he got to keep); 4) ranwan “sell your haunted house” au, in which chu wanning is a cultivator exorcist and mo ran is a medium haunted by the ghost of his dead mother; 5) fengqing charity auction fic for @lquacker, in which feng xin and mu qing continue to hook up every one hundred years or so for 800 years before they finally talk about feelings post-canon; 6) school 2013 namsoon/heungsoo roadtrip fic, because i really want to try writing heungsoo's pov and i love roadtrip fic; 7) my country: the new age 5+1 fic about seonho and hwi fucking across many years and two dynasties, feat. a lot of angry sex in the divorced era; 8) my country: the new age post-canon fic, because i know myself and i know i'll want to write one; 9) my country: the new age space opera au.

some little things on the topic of learning chinese:

feel free to start trying to watch shows early, especially if the genre is romance/slice of life (easiest vocabulary as it will match HSK more), or if its a genre of cdrama you’ve already watched a lot of before learning (I always watched case-solving supernatural/crime dramas so I knew a lot more words from those types of shows already, same will apply to whatever genres you watch more). Another easy genre is action heavy, not because you’ll know the words necessarily (i certainly didnt in Xin Xiao Shi Yi Lang or Handsome Siblings lol) but because context in action dramas is way more obvious. If someone shouts something its often a verb (kick him/kill her/he has the X!/he ran!) which makes learning new verbs or items from context easier since people usually DO the action or pick up the object in these kinds of shows. By early, i mean like month 3, month 5, month 10 early. And if you already are watching with english subs, at first you can just try spotting chinese words in the dual subtitles (since most cdramas are hard subbed) and looking up new words as you’re curious (you’ll learn “xiao xin, meiguanshi, meishi, zou le!, ta si le!” pretty fast if you watch a case show/action) and/or trying to guess which chinese words correspond to the english subs sometimes. Then as you do that a bit, trying out only chinese subs once in a while. (I could watch shows and follow the main plot way earlier than I expected to, the hardest part was just building up the stamina to tolerate the ambiguous parts, I remember watching Granting You A Dreamlike Life about 6 months into studying and watching 14 eps then finally I just ‘had’ stamina and watching stuff in chinese only got dramatically easier).

feel free to practice reading with songs at first! lots of chinese lyric videos with hanzi and pinyin on youtube, and with just hanzi, all good chances to practice reading while listening to stuff you like and maybe picking up lyrics you wanted to sing along to anyway. The bonus of singing is not worrying about tones as much, and if you get the ‘tone police’ thoughts in your head when recognizing hanzi they might go off a little less with songs ToT. I used to do this with Guardian for fun, and when I got The Untamed and The Lost Tomb Reboot osts I’d read along to the hanzi lyrics in their booklets as I listened. I found lyric to text just a bit less daunting than audiobooks to text lol.

there’s a lot of animated manhua nowadays on bilibili, feel free to check those out early on. They have the benefit of being a bit easier to read like manhua, along with having audio to help you sometimes if you know some words better by sound than writing. Or if vice versa you recognize some hanzi but can’t remember their pronunciation.

feel free to watch dramas from various areas early on, if you want to be somewhat familiar with different pronunciations. in particular, watching some taiwan dramas and some chinese dramas, if you want to get used to the different pronunciations early on (and if you want to eventually be familiar with traditional and simplified hanzi its a good way to see some common words in both forms in hard subs in shows). Watching some dramas that do the -er change to words more often also helps with getting familiar with how words sound when that’s done a lot versus less, like Detective L does it a lot and The Heiress does too.

#rant #i think me watching so much taiwan stuff early on helped a Lot with me noticing that particular accent #and the changes. so that i can 1 hear it in certain actors #and 2 know what the common words sound like very well in taiwan accent #im a bit less familiar with some accents i hear in stuff like Fearless Whisper #but i know i've heard it a few times because im getting used to recognizing it fairly well

She comes from a wealthy family, but Twilly ran away from home to become a wandering trash sculptor.

Cole Rufous

A steady and reliable anthropomorphic auroch who represents the sign of the Ox. Cole can harness the power of the Gem of Loyalty to gain the abilities of anger energy manipulation. He is known to be a protector and guide to the smaller animals he befriends in the rural town he lives in.

Amber Darana
