Runaway Chapter 7: A World Shaken
Summary: Malleus continues to sort through his emotions while Lilia finally receives news...
Previous Chapter
Master List
Ao3
Notes: *Twst spoilers for Chapter/Book 7
Lilia’s heart pounded in his ears as hurried to the office of the headmaster. This was one of many moments that he missed his magical abilities, as, in the past, Lilia could have been there the instant he heard the news. Whether or not it was good news had yet to be determined, but at least it was something.
It had been a week since Silver ran away and nothing had changed, except that he and Malleus weren’t speaking, something that agonized Lilia. He wanted to work things out with the Prince as he was just as dear to him as his lost son, however, every attempt was rebuffed. And to be honest, that may have been for the best as Lilia had no idea what he would say to the boy and, with his emotional state, his attempts to reconcile may just lead to another a fight, or overwhelm Malleus again.
Thus, Lilia chose to do nothing at this time, as he felt that was all he could do without making the situation worse.
Thankfully, Sebek took the opposite approach;
While just as upset, Sebek decided that taking action was the best course. He worked with Azul and Carter to make “lost” posters of Silver, which the latter posted on social media, while Azul had Jade and Floyd hand out fliers around town. (Both who paid Ruggie to do it in their stead.)
This all turned to be fortuitous as thanks to Sebek efforts, they struck something:
A sailor had some items floating in the sea and, thanks to the fliers, guessed the items were connected to Silver and so contacted the school.
Upon arriving, the sailor had been brought to Crowley’s office to discuss things while Lilia was summoned.
Despite losing his ability to transport, Lilia arrived quickly, running over any unfortunate soul that happened to get in his way. (Thankfully the loss of his magic didn’t hamper his physical abilities.)
He burst into the office, demanding what the man knew between breaths.
“Not sure if it belongs to yer kid, but we found these,” The sailor answered in a gruff voice after Lilia’s barrage of questions.
He placed a broom on the table first, its wood and bristles torn apart by the tides. The headmaster hummed beside Lilia.
“Hm, well, this is ours, without a doubt. Though, usually, our brooms are in better condition.” Crowley pointed at the NRC graving on the wood, confirming to Lilia that this was the broom used to carry his son away.
“Was it just a broom you found?” the fae inquired. The sailor shook his head.
“No, we found this as well.” The sailor then opened a sack and dumped a few items on Crowley’s desk.
“I recognized the hat being something I’ve seen the NRC kids wear, so I figured there was some connection.” Said hat was a Diasomnia hat, exactly like the one Lilia usually wore atop his head before he turned his uniform in.
If the hat wasn’t enough of a clue that this stuff belonged to Silver, then the baton was.
Lilia picked that item up and stared at the key chain. This was definitely the baton he gifted Silver during his first year at school.
As he looked at it, Lilia couldn’t help but recall how Silver, despite his best efforts, had dozed off before the cake was served and had to be shaken awake as Lilia and Malleus watched in amusement.
Silver had been glad to receive the wand, seeing it as an acknowledgment of his efforts in training.
Lilia hadn’t the heart to tell the lad that Lilia gave it to him for another reason.
There was an incident the year before when a brave fool tried to sneak into the school to get at Malleus. He didn't make it far, thanks to Lilia. However, the father was worried about his son getting hurt, so he decided to provide a weapon with more—kick if needed—to defend Malleus and himself.
However, the item that held his gaze like a cobra was the ring.
The gold ring glimmered in the light as Lilia stared at the stones that reflected Silver’s eyes.
Lilia’s heart tightened as he plucked it from the table, reading the engraving.
“May my child’s eyes remain as clear as these jewels and never cloud with sadness.”
Lilia’s entire being was filled with emotions that he was only barely able to hold back.
“Where did you get these?” he asked, keeping his voice even.
The sailor shrugged, shoving his hands in his pocket.
“A mermaid I work with found them at the bottom of the ocean, along with a body.”
The world shook then came to a stop.
~*~
In the courtyard below, Malleus wandered lost in thought. The wind tasseled his hair around his black horns and across his face. He lifted a hand to brush it away from his eyes, laden with dark sacks from several sleepless nights.
Things were starting to settle down again after the traumatic event.
The STYX officers were on standby while investigators searched the school for the cause of all the blot outbreaks. However, the guards of Briar Valley returned to their homeland with the Queen, who had duties to attend to. She promised to spend time with him and talk to him when he returned for the next school break.
Malleus understood and was grateful that she took the time to come in the first place. However, now he felt like he truly had no one to talk to. Especially since he and Lilia still weren’t talking.
The thought of his guardian made Malleus’ whole body tense, the leather of his gloves groaning as he tightened them into fists.
Lilia made attempts to talk, but Malleus rejected him every time. This was partly because of how furious he was at the other but, more than that, Malleus didn’t know how to talk to Lilia anymore.
The fae had always been his support. Someone Malleus could trust and count on when everything became too much. But now things were different.
Lilia’s lies shattered his perception of everything, and, in an instant, all Malleus thought he knew had come into question. What did he believe anymore? What could he believe if he couldn’t believe Lilia? Lilia, who was always there, taught him magic and self-defense. Who protected him from visible and invisible foes, who had been there for him since he hatched...
What other secrets did his guardian keep from him all these years? What other lies had he told? If Malleus couldn’t trust him, then there was no one he could trust.
Malleus hugged himself, and his head fell forward as he realized something he wished he didn’t: Lilia just wasn’t “Lilia” anymore.
He was not the person Malleus thought he knew better than anyone else. He was no longer the person Malleus could put his faith in when the world was against him.
Lilia wasn’t...Lilia.
‘All because of Silver...’ Malleus’ jaw clenched as his emotions swirled like poison once more: despair and anger in equal measure. The feeling was so overwhelming that he fell against one of the many apple trees that covered Night Raven College, using the trunk to steady himself.
Silver was the son of the man who killed his mother. While a part of Malleus knew it was unfair to blame the other, the prince could never forget that fact.
He could never forget that, if not for Silver’s father, Malleus have had a family with her.
He could have gotten to know her. To see how she felt about gargoyles and learn what she liked, what her favorite treats were. She could have taught him things in his dragon form that Lilia, despite his efforts, could not, and more.
But all those moments that Malleus could have had… were impossible now.
All because of the humans that invaded their land. Because of Silver’s humans.
The dragon's brow furrowed in anger.
It wasn’t just Malleus who suffered. His grandmother lost her daughter, and his people lost their homes and were forced to fight in a war for centuries. They all suffered as well.
Malleus couldn’t forget that. Nor could he forgive it.
‘Even so…’ He released a breath as he tilting his head toward the sky for answers to the troubles plaguing him only to be blinded by sunlight. However, he did catch the gaze of something.
A raven gargoyle.
“Behold its artistry; don't you feel as though it could take flight at any moment? It is no doubt the work of a famous artisan.”
“So there are raven gargoyles? I thought they were modeled after demons and such.”
Malleus’ expression pinched as his eyes shined at the memory.
He hated this. He hated this feeling. And he hated Silver.
Silver was the reason for all this. The loss and hollowing of Fae lands, the death of his mother, Lilia’s betrayal—it was all because of him!!
Malleus folded his arms and bowed slightly, his hair hiding his face.
“Tch! That human. That…” He was glad Silver was gone. Had he been there, there’s no telling how Malleus would have reacted. And having the boy there saved him the trouble of finding out.
He only wished he had taken all the memories they made together as well, so he had to think of the human ever again.
The time Malleus taught Silver magic, Silver’s first steps, their first meeting...
“…What is that? It looks like a hairless simian.” The memory of that day came unbidden into his mind, causing a sharp pain in his heart.
Lilia hadn’t seen him for some time, so Malleus decided to visit him.
Once he entered the forest, he was overwhelmed with the flutters of the woodland fairies’ gossip about the strangest news he ever heard: Lilia, the feared General of Briar Valley, had adopted a baby. A HUMAN baby. It was so ridiculous that Malleus hadn’t believed it until he saw it himself.
The sight was shocking in more ways than one.
Malleus had never seen a baby before, much less a human one, and to be frank, he wasn’t impressed. Lilia, on the other hand, was smitten. Smitten, a word the prince never thought he’d use to describe the other.
“He’s the baby in question, and his name is Silver. So, what do you think? Isn’t he just adorable?” Malleus had scrunched his face in disgust.
“Adorable? This thing…?” Seeing the general coo over the thing did nothing to appeal him to the child. If anything, it annoyed the dragon as bits of jealousy filled his eyes. But then Lilia did the unthinkable; he shoved the human into his arms!
What was the madman thinking? Even one wrong move and Malleus would shatter it like he had so many toys over the years.
But the baby didn’t break. Instead, it grew into a young man who became Malleus’ knight. Someone Malleus could depend on.
Or rather, someone Malleus THOUGHT he could depend on. Now…
Malleus tightened his grip on his arms.
When Silver was just a human Lilia found in the woods, there was no doubt he could put his faith in the boy. Now that Silver was the son of the foe who slew his mother, however…
The corners of his lips trembled as his eyes narrowed.
“Dammit..!” He hated this. He hated Lilia. He hated Silver. He hated both. If it wasn’t for them, he wouldn’t be in this pain.
How could Lilia do this to him? He claimed it was for Malleus' father, but did he have to betray his mother to honor the other? And why in the world did it have to be THAT human?
But even as he thought about it, Malleus knew the answer.
“I want to see if I really can love a human from the bottom of my heart.”
Malleus pressed his lips as Lilia’s words rang in his ears.
Lilia wanted to know if he could truly live in peace with humans and forgive them for their crimes. So, he chose the human he hated most to test himself.
Apparently, he passed, considering how much Lilia adored the boy now. Malleus, on the other hand…
Malleus pressed his lips tight.
The bat fae hadn’t said it back then, but Lilia wondered if Malleus could do the same. And, despite everything, he did.
Malleus did love that sleepy human baby dearly. So much so that the dragon prince was willing to attend a human school and meet other humans.
But now the question was different; now the question was, could Malleus forgive the sins of the past and love the son of his enemy? And the answer to THAT…
Words tumbled through clenched teeth, each low and shaking.
“I’ll never forgive him,’ he said, not knowing if he was referring to Lilia or Silver. “Never!”
Behind him, the tree withered. Then, an apple fell before decaying as well.
~end~
A/n:
*I’m sad that this story has been mainly about the others as this was originally supposed to be Silver’s story. Oh, well. I’ll make up for that in future stories.
*Ahh, it’s hard to sort through Malleus’ emotions. I want his to get from “a” to “c,” but I know I have to deal with “b” first, which is a pain.

𝓑𝓲𝓽𝓼 𝓸𝓯 𝓒𝓱𝓮𝓻𝓻𝔂 - mini-project
Runaway Shrimp
Notes: this is based on a very fun request I made with Malleus, Leona and Azul where Reader accidentally confessed their feelings to them and instead of facing them and waiting for a reply, they just… “bolts” (as the Anon said lol). So then @gilswifey asked if I could do a part 2 with Jade and I thought, huh why not?
Jade Leech x g!n reader who runs really fast / headcanons / fluff & comedy / part 2 / use of “you” pronouns
Tumblr media
“Our house will be a mushroom farm like this…,” you blurted out. It was a big mistake on your part, considering that the alchemy workshop was so empty that your voice projected better than ever, and above all, Jade had enviable hearing. Especially because he was right next to you. So much so that he took his eyes off the poisonous mushroom he had in hand just to face you;
There were no great excuses to be made, no means of deflecting the subject. The implication that you imagined living together with Jade in the future — and the awareness that the constant presence of mushrooms would be inevitable — was right there, heading for more things. More clear that this would have been to have asked for his hand at that moment;
But you chickened out. Well, you never intended to let him find out your feelings, let alone reveal them in this way. Jade still stared at you for another minute, his heterochromatic eyes going from wide in surprise to slowly relaxing into gentle amusement — mostly from your expression of horror — when…;
... you ran away. Few things really impressed Jade in seventeen years of life, being two years of earthly experience. He could be fascinated by various things, develop curiosity about human habits, and wanting to know different things without further ado. But that was the day he was most taken aback by things. And all this is your work;
You ran out of the workshop faster than a flock of sardines when they spotted a monster whale. Jade congratulated your speed — even though you were out of sight to hear it. Calmly, he got up, put away his newest mushroom in a terrarium and made a little call;
From the point where you were, you had two directions: the outskirts of the Ramshackle or some point near the library, near Main Street. That’s considering you were running in a straight line. A third option would be the Hall of Mirrors region. The Leech’s aquatic predator ability aside, you personally had the advantage of knowing how to run really fast. But Jade had an idea that would save him time;
You thought you were out of danger. Your legs had carried you to the other side of the school, somewhere in the woods near the library. Not a sign of Jade following you. You leaned against a tree to catch your breath, but the fatigue wasn't all that was making you feel bad. It was a mixture of guilt and a certain disappointment that you were really alone after all;
Not for long though. Someone took you in their arms by surprise, putting a frightening distance between you and the ground. When you turned around and saw turquoise hair, you even thought it was Jade... but Floyd’s laugh totally broke your expectations;
“I see you’ve managed to catch a runaway shrimp for me, Floyd. What a good brother you are,” Jade smiled when he met the two of you. Floyd carried you in his arms to the courtyard of the Botanical Garden and dropped you into the arms of his twin — the game was good while it lasted. Floyd had mentioned that Jade would spear him from eating the test shiitake dishes if he looked for you in one area of the school while his brother went in the other side;
A master plan, you had to admit. Although there was still the problem that you had nowhere else to run and hide — not with Jade carefully holding you in his own arms, purposefully not giving you that opportunity anymore;
“I personally don’t understand why you ran away like that. It’s not like your feelings aren’t reciprocated,” Jade said gently. It caught you off guard. The feeling was so clear on your face that the merman had a little chuckle. Jade had a docile smile, something very uncommon to see — especially for how sincere it was. But the truth was that he always had that one smile when you were around him.
| Special notes: not very necessary to the story but I imagine that Floyd was still there when they solved things up and he's like "oh for Ursula, get a room you two! gross! this? right in front of the school facility for everyone to see? disgusting, I'm telling mom" :P while they only smiled to each other bc he's that type of supportive brother lmao |

Traitor Arc
One student stayed behind, but that student was no ordinary one. She was the ideal image of perfection, a very high achiever, you all will see. She step her way to the filled up dorm meeting. With a darken expression.
“The students have escaped…..” she answered
The room crowed with outrage but Crowley hushed them down, after all.
How dare they yell at his beloved daughter? Whom he cannot fault. He knows wisely this was the girl plan to get a little info. After all, everyone trusts her. Too. Easily….

So…… Scenario Idea about Kalim running away…. But with a twist.
So basically, sometime after Jamil overbolt, more overbolts, constant reminders that maybe he needs to do better, and Constant underestimation from his fellow dorm heads, Kalim realized that he needs a break from everything.
And what’s a better break than going to another country, see how people who aren’t rich live, and not telling anyone. Of course he would need a place to stay…. And what better person to ask for a place to stay is Ace!
Why Ace? Because he’s one of the only people who others won’t ask where he is. In fact, he’ll just gaslight people into believing that he doesn’t know where Kalim is.
So when Kalim ask Ace if he knows a place where he can stay in the Rose Kingdom, Ace helps him cause he knows that this would lead to chaos and that’s what he lives for. So Ace Tells Kalim he can actually stay with his Family! And you know what? ACE GOES WITH KAILM!
Cause not only would he be showing Kalim how non rich people live, but he also gets to skip school. So next thing you know, Ace and Kalim get permission to have the next few weeks off, they make their way to Ace hometown, and not tell anyone!
…….This however leads to chaos
(Fell free to respond to this post so we can continue the story)

Twst Runaway Noble Au!
Chapter I
GN!Reader
Summary: Your father had announced your marriage you nor he clearly do not want, thus he made your escape successfully.
tags: Forced Marriage, Mentions of Treachery, Angst, Not Proofreaded and Running awah
your teacup clicked its saucer rather loud for someone who should be doing it carefully and slowly if not wanting to damage the cup
"huh?" a question escaped your lips as your jaw dropped open on your father's news.
"a contract marriage to the Baron of Pigeoniel, your hand is already promised, we are to depart in two days from now." your eyes widen, your lips couldn't help but tremble and anger dwelled up your brain
"he already had returned to his own kingdom before us, now he is currently waiting for yo--"
"father, you never consulted me in this..." you argued refusing to believe your father had sold you calling it as a marital contract to a person you haven't even met once.
"im sorry my child, but i h-have to, it's for our househo--"
"Father." your chair scooted backwards making a deep screeching sound on the mahogany floor, your voice was shaking in distress yet still interrupting him making him quite alarmed with your tone.
"You have sold me?" your eyebrows scrunched up and your knuckles turned white gripping into nothingness. the upsetting word had sour your mood.
"Hatchling... i had not sold you to anyone, it's a marriage contract, you are not sold like a filthy slave." your ears wanted to fool you as if there's a truth in his words
"What's the difference of it, father..?" you stare at him in dismay and outrage, doesn't know what to feel whether betrayal or fury, perhaps both
"You had sold your own child calling it a marriage to someone they don't love or haven't even met once!?" your yell rang around the fancy room making the two servants inside with you flinch in surprise
"Child, please calm down" he shifted out of his seat and stood, put his hands up as he headed closer to your position.
he puts both of his hands on your shoulders trying to calm you
your expression carried the disapproval of the decision your father had made for you, a decision for you that you don't even had to say in it
"I'm doing this for you." liar
"It's for the better." LIAR
it's all for this ramshackle of a home
all for your father of a noble falling from his position yet not willing to give up his riches and land but has all the nerve to decide who's his child is going to marry without their will.
All for the money
you slapped his hands off your shoulders and turned your head back to his masked face, looking directly at his golden eyes with discontent.
"you can stop pretending now. i am not used at you using me as an excuse for your own benefit, my generous father." you throw his hands harshly back to his own body and stormed out.
you did not notice the teardrop dwelling up on your eye as your studded shoe walked on the marble floor of the luxuriant hallway of your home.
your household might be getting a small fund to keep the manor up or even still live at the manor but it sure didn't lose its elegance and damascene.
you're not sure if you lose the mansion and the life as a noble, you are ready to live a peasant life but you're sure your father can't. he is not used at being penniless nor even live as a lower ranking noble, after all he is a tad bit greedy as a crow for shiny things and already had married you off to some noble you don't even know the name of other than his title as a Baron.
you stopped your hurried steps to your chambers and looked back at previous ones you have taken before, your eyes bore into the woodsn door of office again.
the office you used to play when you were smaller, the office where you and your father had a lots of fun hanging out for breaks and tea.
the office where he told his own child that he is going to marry them off.
the upsetting feeling is stirring inside you again making it harder to prevent a sad sniffle coming from your mouth.
your hand aggressively flinged the door of your room to open and threw yourself right after to your bed, weeping on the silken sheets with sorrow, in the next two days you are off to be with a husband your heart don't desire.
•••
Dire plopped back on his chair, shaking his head and massaging his temples, he does not know what he'd do to a kid like you but after all you had a right to be mad, after all it is you that is going to be wedded to a unknown man you don't hold an affection for.
Dire doesn't like the fact that he had to marry off his own child to save his plummetting life, but he wanted to give you a good life, yes the Baron of Pigeoniel might have a shady background but he promised he'll keep sponsoring Dire and give you a "good" life once he gets your hand in marriage.
the moment that condition was mentioned, it felt like heaven and earth turned their backs at Dire, he didn't want you to be with someone against your will but he was also determined to save your names as nobles.
the Baron who happened to be staying at one of the patrician of the kingdom. called Dire into the villa, Dire was offered the contract immediately soon as he arrives, of course money is involved the Baron had it already prepared for him and he had to sign the paper on his face immediately for the Baron doesn't have that much time nor likes waiting.
you can't blame him, he was being pressured to make a decision fast, wether its you or the house, and though without your consent he took the pen and wrote your signature.
"aren't you so generous now Viscount Dire? i appreciate your loyalty to our allegiance." he smirked as he took the signed paperwork back staring at Dire's golden shifty eyes and forced smile plastered on his face yet sensing the guilt of a decision he made.
he have heard about the rumors circling the noble infront of him, a letch who knew nothing more than to have a taste of people that catches his eye and then abandoning them after he was done with them. rumors might be true to this one but he is still a supporter of Crows, Dire had to oblige
but who was he kidding? all this time he had been a selfish person, signing a marital contract for his child who did not consent or know anything about it, he just want to... save his title... unwanting to be stripped from being a noble... just for his own sake.
he sighed in guilt seeing you wearing an unhappy and so wistful of an expression, he never meant bad, it was unintentional to hurt you. no, he does not want hurt you.
what he wanted was just for his only loved child live a good and prosperous life unlike him. he wanted a good future for you even a happy one.
still he clearly did not want you to leave him for you are his dearest child and only relative left to also lift up and held the pride for the sake name of Crows. the only one who can continue the legacy of Crows.
the only one left who is rightful for the whole heritage of his bloodline. the only one he had left to love and always would held close dearly to his heart, about to be restrained, imprisoned in a unfaithful and lonely cage called marriage.
he doesn't want that to happen.
a idea sparked on the bird's mind, a plan.
he would not let that happen.
he called one of his advisors and some of the specific attendants
not to his precious one.
•••
Two days before you and your father to be shipped at the Kingdom of the Pigeoniel and be wedded to your future husband, you ordered your informat and other servants to gather intellect about the said Baron and their kingdom, apparently he is a dirty lecher, a scumbag who collects lovers and consorts of other people whether be it a man or a woman just to pleasure him.
the kingdom of pigeoniel allows nobles to have multiple partners and concubine meaning its filled with nymphomaniac like him.
you have caught his eye on a banquet you attended two months ago, for a reason he was also invited too, and that time you just happen to steal a glimpse of his eye and sparkle like gem you are in a bunch of gray plain rocks. he knew he wanted you.
not to mention he is vile and evil, anyone who dares to refuse his wishes gets harm or live no more the moment they displease him.
you groaned in disgust, he was a loathsome atrocious thing, after what you've heard on what he'd done to get rid other people who had distasted him, it nauseated you, it was too wicked.
why would your father wanted you to marry such a sick freak? did he hated you secretly? no, that can't be right... your father gave you affection and love ever since you were small.
ah that's right the baron is also known for it's wealth and assets, his connections, sponsoring merchants, nobles, and other aristocrats
including your father
he had him tied on his palm meaning he cannot refuse the Baron unless he wants the sponsoring to stop.
and if it did he'll still won and the both of you will lose the life you are used to
what a sick man.
you gritted your teeth as you raised your hand to send off the servants in your room, they make their way out as your silhouette casted a shadow of your canopy window, the sun of mid afternoon warmed your skin and the hot breeze flushed your face, the branches of a nearby tree of swayed with the breeze.
you inhale the warm air to calm yourself, you looked around your room and how are you going to yearn for it once you're gone on another kingdom.
the things you treasure and pine for have been in luggage preparing for the departure two days from now
this room was what you would call a comfort place since you have all the privacy you wanted, although it'll be taken away from you with two more suns to go down.
you'll miss it
•••
two days had gone by and you finally got out of your room after sulking at your father. still ignoring him even after the servants persuade you to see him.
the whole ride on the carriage was awkward, he kept talking and rambling about certain stuff even asking you questions you don't answer nor look at him in the face prior to be stil angry to him, though it didn't stop him to squawk the whole time.
the moment you arrive at the port, a big full rigged ship loomed over you and multiple passengers that is happy to their leave, but of course not you.
he offered you a hand, a help for you to up the metallic stairs and you, forgiving him a little bit, accepted it making him beam as you two climb the metal stairs.
what seemed weird is some of your few servants came with you and your father, you think it's some business stuff he needed to deal with even while travelling on the ocean, your father seemed to be always looking at a pocket watch as soon as the boat started to depart.
the travel on a ship was exhausting, the floating feeling is nauseating it made you felt like you need to throw up, what's worse is you have you deal with it and get used to it for the whole day of your journey, the room assigned to you is a tad bit dirty and the only view you can see from your window is open blue sea making this whole experience all pretty boring and tiring.
of course it was a travelling ship, there isn't a banquet or a party held in it since it's not a fancy one like you and your father used to go to, so all you could do was stay in your room while your father do his work on a separate office. your room isn't that big in comparison in the one back in your home but it's close enough to make you comfortable.
however, the new life you are about to have once you arrived at your destination won't be comfortable as it is now. (you just hope that sleazebag doesn't force himself to you)
after a few hours of boredom and sitting quitely in your room, night had started to fall deep in the sky.
you can't sleep, the thought of being married to to a lowlife of a baron is making you feel overwhelmed and weary.
you sat up and scooted over to the only window near the bed, you sighed as your hand traced the wooden windowframe, you lean on the slightly squalid glass and gazed at the dark sky being lit with little stars, what a beautiful scene, you look back at the dark sea, the moon reflected on the darkest pit of salt water.
suddenly a knock was hit on the wooden carved door of your room, curious, you stood up and walked to check who it is
"its me" your father's voice, you sighed and roll your eyes as your door click open for the man to enter.
"come in--" your father seemed to be drooping, like a crow taken away from its shiny trinkets
"go and quickly change my dear, to a plain clothing, a attire a commoner would wear" his voice was raspy and breathless as if he just cried is he okay?
still, scoffing at the man, you stomped and sat back down at your bed and crossed your arm
"What do you mean? first you arrange a marriage on me, now you want me to dress like a peasant?" you turn your head away from him like a child sulking after getting yelled at
a moment of silence, he walked over to your sitting figure, making you stand up quickly to hear his scold as he pulled your hand and held you close to him, hugging you in a warm embrace, you didn't push away but that doesn't mean you are return the hug
you heard a sniffle as he caress your hair, holding you warmly as if he never want to let go.
"I've found a way for you to flee, to be free"
"...what?"
he leaned back to look at your face that wears the confusion and caressed your cheek with his gloved leather hand.
"once you get married to the Baron Pigeoniel, you would be a Pigeon and Crows will be forgotten as a name of a aristocrat." that's right, he still prioritize the family's pride even after getting hooked on a bait of some rich noble
he broke free from the hug and to your luggages
"our inherited name will go downhill if you are to lose it for a last name such as pigeoniel. i don't want that happen and--" he hooped his hand at the handle to carry the luggage and placing it on your bed, clicking both strap hinges of the antique suitcase pulling out
"i want you to still live on your life carrying our name, and... live happily dear child, i want you to live your life the way you wanted and not to be bounded to a marriage with no love and happiness like you say."
"Father--"
"Hush now my little crow... go change for your own departure, you have to be free even if you have to leave without me." he leaded you to the cheap dressing screen, you follow his order by taking the walking inside the three-fold, choosing called plain clothing if it was worn in a social gathering, you tear its accessories and design, wasting no time to make it look ragged.
you step out the dressing screen, holding your previous clothing and handing it over to your father, he let the ruffled and laced frilled fabric placed inside the suitcase in a hurry, he pulled out a blue cloak from the suitcase and robed it over you.
worry and confusion flooded your brain with all that is happening, you knew your father doing this to let you flee you will lead to a undesired consequence.
before you could ask a question he already had grabbed your hand rapidly and pulled you by walking, you two tread the wooden floorboard of the deck with hurry making it creak in a hush, his grip was tender but his steps are in speed while he continuously looked at his pocket watch.
the whole ship was dark except for some lighting the stars provided sl you can make some of its obvious details, like the ropes, the huge carriages, and the sail winding up wide to catch the wind,
the cold wind hit, unhooding you from the cover from your identity yet not stopping the rushed walking your father is guiding you
another ship stopped infront of you, more ragged and rusty as if a boat for shipping cargos and peasants who can't afford to travel in a cruise
two men appeared placing a big plank big enough to make way for you between the two boat
you halted and he responds in stopping his steps and turning his attention to you
"what about the fortune he promised you? do you not desire it anymore?" you have always knew that your father loves money and if that's the only thing making him happy you don't want to take that away
"what is money or spoils to me? if you are the one suffering for it?" your heart felt warm, you still realize the fatherly love he had for you still exists
"treasures, aristocracy, prosperity is nothing if you are not the one to be happy." he looked at your eyes with a loving look, caressing you face, still holding your hand he guided you to go down.
"but father i have learnt a news, the baron of pigeoniel is a cruel viscous man who does not forgive nor merciful, what would he do to you once he founds out you broke a promise, the contract? i don't want any danger to you for my sake"
by the pitiful look you are giving him, his heart strucked by a he held you close and whispered to your ear
"why can't you come with me? we could escape together...!"
"it is not an option for me my hatchling, if neither of us arrived at Pigeoniel, he'll have an order to find us and we'll never live in peace, and if they did find us somewhere, i do not what they'll do."
"i know what punishment is waiting for me as soon as i arrive at Pigeoniel but it'll be alright dear, do not worry about me." he kissed your forehead as he pulled down your hood to hide your face, handing you the suitcase that is now lighter without the expensive accessories you had bought with you
he nodded his head at the men behind you as they walked the plank instead to take your arm and pull you harshly to break away from your beloved father
you tried to struggle still wanting to bathe in his love for this might be the last time you'll see him smiling
"i would make sure no one will know that you got away..."
you muttered the word father as the plank let go of both sides and dropped on the vast dark sea, completely getting rid of the evidence you had run away with his help
fog emanating from the dark, blurring your vision as well as the ship you have been into
he is facing you yet the fog made his features blurry, you knew he is still looking out for you
you look at your father one last time as guilt and concern to him painted your face
a/n: this is way too long lmao sorry if mc/reader sounds a bit spoiled jere but that's how i think nobels or normal people act when they get married off without their consent (also Dire and Crowley are gunna be two different people)
(if some words don't make sense, English is not my first language pls understand)

Runaway_Chapter 3_Lilia's Part
Summary: Silver has run away. Who's at fault?
<-Previous Chapter
Master List
Ao3
Notes: *I had to split this as Tumblr no long takes long posts, I guess. *Twst spoilers for Chapter/Book 7
For the longest time Lilia felt numb. Thinking back, he must have been in shock.
He didn’t even realize what was happening until he was standing before Queen Malefica, the Queen of Briar Valley and the woman who took him in as an orphan.
She stared at him with the same accusing eyes she had 400 years ago after Malenore’s death, injecting emotions of regret and sorrow into his shocked mind and bringing him to the present.
The Queen demanded an explanation to what happened and how Lilia could allow Malleus to blot over.
The accusation reminded of the events outside of Silver and his feelings of shame overrided the emptiness Silver’s departure had left for the moment.
Despite—or maybe because of--what he was going through, Lilia was more than willing to take the blame for it all, as it was his fault.
Lilia failed to take note of how distraught Malleus was over his leaving. Then, due to his weakness, the guardian was unable to stop his ward from casting the spell over the island. Who knew what consequences Brair Valley now faced due to his negligence? And what would happen to Malleus now?
However, as they were speaking, Malleus himself teleported into the room.
Almost immediately, the prince confronted his grandmother about the past and how she misled him all this time. He was so enraged Lilia worried Malleus would blot over again.
It took time, but Lilia managed to calm him, and they began to talk rationally.
Once things were settled—as much as they could between two dragons--Lilia left them alone to speak, something he was glad to to ad the world suddenly felt very heavy upon his shoulders.
He knew that he and Malleus would have to speak later, but for now...
Despite his his exhaustion, Lilia knew he had things he needed something to do, he went to inform Sebek of the situation, namely Silver’s departure. He deserved to know, after all.
Sebek was angry and distraught, breaking into tears when he heard the news. Lilia didn’t blame him.
The boys had been together for ten years and were the only companions they had around their age. They fought and argued, but they loved each other.
So, hearing that Silver left...
It took all Lilia had to stop Sebek from running blind after Silver. (He had to physically restrain the boy with several STYX officers to keep him from running out.)
While the old fae sympathized, running off wouldn’t do anyone good, not even Silver. Instead, he told Sebek they should focus on other things, reminding him of Malleus—who was in a very fragile state—and how he would need them right now.
Thus, he convinced Sebek to help him with the dorm duties. While not vice-warden anymore, Lilia knew the duties. And they distracted him from the emotions swirling in his chest.
Or at least, he had hoped they would.
“Augh!” Lilia nearly toppled forward.
He was in his bedroom now—if he could still call it that—his only refuge from the world outside.
Inside, on the other hand…
Lilia hugged himself, as if trying to restrain himself as the gut-wrenching feelings tore the man from the inside out.
Now that there were no distractions, Lilia was forced to come face-to-face with his anguish, even as he tried to push it back.
“Uggh!”
His heart had become an angry beast, clawing, tearing at his insides. It shook the bars of its cage as it screamed its agony with every beat.
Silver was gone. Silver was gone. His Silver was gone. His son was gone--!!
A growl slipped between his fangs, which gnawed at his lip. The cute brow that Lilia was so proud of wrinkled as the white of his eyes turned as red as the irises.
“Arrgh! Fuck, fuck, fuck!” he cried, water rolling down his cheeks in barrels.
Lilia only felt this way once in his life and he hoped—prayed--to never feel this way again. Sadly, it seemed the heavens had ignored this prayer and kicked him in the face on top of it.
He bent forward in half, fists as his side, ready to smash something, anything.
“Fuck!”
He wanted to yell. He wanted to scream. He wanted to break something. He wanted to break everything!
His hands shook.
No. He didn’t want any of that.
He wanted his son back.
“Auugh!” Lilia kicked one of his boot across his room, his break down having come while he was preparing to change.
The bedroom was nearly empty as he had gotten rid of most of his stuff in preparation for his trip. However, Lilia had his luggage brought back from the carriage as he wasn’t able to leave at the time for a multitude of reasons. Most of it remained in the suitcases, however, ready to be moved again.
The room was dark as Lilia hadn’t bothered to turn on a lamp and the only light from outside was a dark gray. Somehow, it matched his mood.
The boot into the pile of his Diasomnia uniform where it landed with a soft plop against the wall.
Around him, the world spun and wavered, causing Lilia to feel sick as his head pounded in grief, hammering the same words over and over again:
Silver was gone. Silver was gone—and it was all his fault.
He pressed his palms to his face, wet from all the tears.
“Hick, hick...! Fuck!”
His voice hitched a notch as Lilia collapsed backward into the bed, unable to stand anymore. He then moved his hands to his hair, nearly ripping it out as tears wet his pillow.
“Fuck…” ‘How did this get all twisted?’ Lilia was the one supposed to leave.
He was the one meant to disappear so everyone could be happy. He was the one meant to carry the burden of the past.
It wasn’t supposed to be Silver.
The man sobbed harder as he curled into a ball, his form messing up the silk sheets.
“Dammit…!” he cursed. “How did I screw up so bad?”
It shouldn’t have turned out like this.
Silver was meant to be happy with Malleus and Sebek while growing up to live his dream.
Silver was supposed to remain, to live life free from Lilia and the imaginary burden the boy placed on himself.
He was never supposed to learn the truth and get his heart broken.
“Silver…” The name of his boy came out in a ragged sob.
‘How could this have happened?’ Well, it was all his fault. He knew that much. If he hadn’t lied, then maybe none of this would have happened.
‘Or maybe he would have left sooner.’ Silver did have a bad habit of doing that when he was upset. Lilia thought he had broken that habit after he ran off into the storm all those years ago.
Now that he thought about it, the circumstances weren’t that different back then.
Instinctively, Lilia cupped his ear and traced the point.
That night started innocent enough; Lilia had woken Silver from his nap to ready him for supper when Silver suddenly asked why their ears were different. Lilia thought it was best to rip off the band-aid as quick as possible. He had been wrong. Silver was so shocked that he ran away and disappeared.
Just like now. Only this time...
Lilia rolled over, pulling tighter into himself.
“I’m such an idiot.”
He never planned to tell Silver the truth, or anyone. A part of him knew that he should have, as Silver had a right to know about his his history, but how could he?
How could Lilia devastate Silver that way? That kind boy who often took the weight of the world upon his shoulders? Who would sacrifice everything for those he loved? That gentle soul who believed the best of everyone, including Lilia? That sweet boy, whose smile meant so much to him...
Silver's broken expression immediately replaced the smiling child in his mind.
“Father, I…”
That moment in the dream was Lilia’s final memory of his son. That moment he failed to recognize Silver’s pain. That moment he failed--
Another sob wracked Lilia’s body.
‘I lost so many things in my life, but I swore Silver wouldn’t be one of them.’ He wasn’t sure when he made that vow. It could have been after Silver disappeared for the first time as a baby, or maybe it was before that.
Not that it mattered. As of now, these were just empty feelings and words.
Silver was gone, and Lilia had no idea where the human fled to. He didn’t even have a direction to follow.
“Father! Let’s stay together, forever, okay?”
A sense of helplessness washed over him once more and Lilia’s wails ceased. He felt himself go numb as fatigue overtook him, hopelessness filling him.
Silver was gone.
Silver was gone, and nothing was right with the world.
And it was all his fault.
--
A/N: Well, you all tune in for pain, so here’s the pain. Malleus is in the next chapter, so stay tuned.
Lilia Notes: *Lilia's reaction was troublesome at first. When I started writing the scene I assumed he would remain hopeful and would try to go after Silver right away, like Rook in Chapter 6, but it didn't feel quite right. It was more like that what I wanted rather than what Lilia would actually do. So, I rewrote it and had Lilia break down, which felt more accurate.

Omg finally something amusing in this fic... I hope the end of this chapter will please you !

─── ・ 。゚☆: .☽ . :☆゚. ───
Victoria thought hard all afternoon of her plan of action to be there for the Child. It was at this age that we needed love and support the most. Victoria would be… A mom. The question was : which professor would accept the role of the dad ? It was important that Yuu had both parental figure to have a healthy environment to grow up.
She just hoped it would not be Vargas. He should be the himbo uncle.
Victoria went back home a little bit late, with a gray waistcoat for Yuu in her hand. She had a rough time deciding on which one would be better paired with the uniform. When she entered the dorm, Yuu and Grim were waiting for her in the main hall.
Victoria was blessed by the vision of her little babies already changed and doing their homework on the coffee table.
Victoria sang “Hello my babies, I am hoooome ! I have a gift for both of you !”
Yu and Grim looked at each other because of the nicknames. It was unexpected.
Grim spoke first, excited “A gift ?? Where’s mine ?”
Victoria hummed and grabbed Grim’s gift first. “It is a premium tuna can !”
Grim gasped. “Best gift EVER !”
[Well, at least he is simple minded..]
Victoria added while grabbing the article of clothing“And for Yuu… I bought you a waistcoat !”
Yuu’s eyes lighten up. “Really really ? For me ?”
Victoria had a little laugh “Of course ! Try it on, it should be a little too big for you so you can keep it longer, after puberty.”
A teenager needed room to grow in their everyday clothes, after all.
Yuu tried the piece of clothing, delighted. “Do I look good ?”
Victoria clapped a little bit “The cutest on Earth ! Tomorrow I will take a photo of you in complete uniform, you will look handsome !”
Yuu looked themself in the big broken mirror next to the cheminee, giggling. “Thank you Victoria ! I love it.”
The woman smiled. “Perfect. How about we eat some rice salad with tuna in it ?”
After the meal, Victoria verified if the children did their homework (at least she checked there was some writing on the paper) before separating their way.
Once in her bed, Victoria racked her brain, searching for a plausible excuse to ask for a library card. She was a grown up, maybe he would say that she can buy her own books… If she wanted to help Yuu and Grim in their homework, she needed to cram all the information she could into her big brain.
She sighed. Being able to read shouldn’t be this difficult. She could still ‘borrow’ them ? It wouldn’t be the first time she did that…
She facepalmed. [Damn from the look of it I am an intello thug.]
The morning after was quite normal. They ate, Victoria took a photo of a proud Yuu with their complete uniform, they went to school, Victoria went to the headmaster office to threaten, erm speak with, Crowley.
Victoria began by a simple. “Hello, how are you ? Can I have a library card ?”
Crowley blinked. “Hello, I am fine and you ? And… Why ?”
Victoria had an innocent expression on her face. “To… Borrow books ? Else They will mysteriously disappear for a few days before reappearing ?”
Crowley blinked again. “Well… I don’t want to chase those mysteriously disappeared books…” He wrote a note “Give this to the secretary, he will make you one.”
Victoria had a huge grin. “Thank you Sir ! What’s my work for the day ?”
With her note, the victorious woman went to the administration.
After a short persuasion, the secretary made her a library card with in the ‘class’ section there were written ‘janitor’. They liked to remind her that she was at the bottom of the educational ladder. Jokes on them : she was at the top of it. She was proud of her achievement and if she had the chance, she would carefully slide it in a conversation so she could maybe become a teacher assistant of some sort ? Yeah good idea.
She went with her day and at noon, she found Lucius in front of her door. [Is this a message from heaven that I am becoming a crazy cat lady ? Mmmh… I mean, I talk to a cat everyday after all.]
She crouched. “Hello fur baby, how are you ?”
Lucius deadpan answered her a happy meow and began to explain the situation -at least she thought so since it was a very long monologue of meow-.
Victoria nodded and then delicately grabbed Lucius. “Yes yes, my Lord. Let’s go find professor Trein.”
She went on her way, with the black cat purring under the scratches. “You’re a good boyyy, Imma right Lucius ?”
“Meow” Was the only answer from the liquified cat.
They arrived in front of the teacher’s lounge. She knocked like she could, without letting the cat go away.
The door opened and Crewel appeared “Yes ? Oh ! Finally his majesty Lucius is back.”
Victoria laughed. “Yeah, I found him in front of my desk… Can you help me get him to professor Trein ?”
Crewel nodded, sighing at the memory of the ruckus Trein made because Lucius disappeared. “Yeah I will call him… You can sit over there.” He said, pointing to a chair near his desk.
Victoria and her furry luggage sat quietly, while Crewel was calling Trein.
While waiting for Trein to arrive, they had a staring contest.
Victoria broke the silence. “Do you have any good books on alchemy to recommend to me ?”
The man was surprised. “You want to study alchemy ?”
Victoria shrugged like she could. “I am truly curious about it. I studied physics initially. Moreover, everything related to science is interesting. It seems fun.”
Crewel smiled. “If you like science, you will definitely love alchemy. It is very complex but the result is worth the effort.”
The woman nodded and asked wholeheartedly. “How does it feel to play God ?”
Crewel spat out the coffee he was drinking. “*koff* wh-what ? *kof*”
She tilted her head innocently “Well… Alchemy is kinda like playing God, no ? You transform matters and stuff like that ?”
Crewel blinked and said in a desperate voice “You truly need some reading…”
Trein arrived a few minutes after Crewel finished his long list of books for Victoria to read. The cat jumped from her arms to snuggle against his master.
Trein grabbed the runaway cat. “Thank you Mrs Devi, I owe you for finding this little rascal.”
The said rascal complained. He wasn’t a rascal, he was a Cupid. -His word, truly.-
Trein and Crewel choked. Thanks to the Great Seven Victoria didn’t know animal language.
The question was : a Cupid for who ?

Mekakushi.. What a sweet boy he is.
Judging from his whole appearance, you may as well think him like someone who's hard to talk with. In some cases, it's correct somehow but that's the totally different case for him.
..Mekakushi may not be cold. At all.
To people, Mekakushi is a person who keep his voice slienced. But to others who knows him, he is a very naive guy who just want to see the world.
It's just that,, Mekakushi is quite the people-pleaser, no?
Doing others' works and helping people despise he doesn't want to.. That sounds quite uncomfortable isn't it? But to someone like Mekakushi, he has already adapted to this new personality of his. He has grew up like this, after all.
Mekakushi is described to be naive in human eyes. He always finds postive traits of even the worst people around him, even if that payed him a cost. But he seems to apologise often, for what he didn't do.
Mekakushi is very kind. That he gets taken advantage of his kindness by most people around him. Whilist he knew that he was being manipulated, that people were guilt tripping him, he couldn't say 'No.'
And that was a weakness of him, honestly.
Sometimes, Mekakushi felt an unexplainable anger inside him, one that burned his heart up alive.
But he couldn't release that outside. He can't.

↳Backstory: [TBA]
↳Main Theme: Tokyo Getto • Ultamarine Hymm_ Eve
↳Mekakushi used to be the test subject in the same project KAFU was involved. However, he ran away sooner than them for a month, and then got transported to Night Raven College through a gate.
↳He likes to refer himself as 'Mekakushi Kisaragi' rather than 'Mekakushi Hirohana.' The reason was because due to personal issues regarding his family. However, some said that 'Hirohana' was his mother's name.
↳Being a Medusa, Mekakushi also has the ability to open a timeloop called 'Kagerou Daze.' But until this time, he doesn't know it.
↳Mekakushi was SA by Yuzu Sakamaki multiple times.
↳He can speak Swedish, Japanese, Russian, English, and a few more languages.
↳Mekakushi is implied to have PTSD.
↳He has lifeless and cold eyes. Although that, he seems prefers to act than talks.

Hi, there! :D
I saw the new event once a book and I thought it was interesting, If it's not too much trouble I would like to request:
Fandom: TWST (Silver x Fem reader) Story: Charming Fairytale the Book: A book that has been lovingly re-covered in now sun-faded fabric. <3
If my order does not convince you, you can discard it without problems, but if not, take your time and without pressure. Thank you. The new event made me excited, you are one of my favorite twst writers and I am happy to finally place an order here
Oh my goodness! I’m so touched that you like my writings and I’m thrilled to write a fic for you. In all honesty, the book selection actually serves as the character selection, but since I didn't clearly indicate that int he even, I've written two fics for you. One for Silver and one for the book you chose. The one for Silver is below (which was written and edited while I listened to “Entendez-Vous” by Cécile Corbel, but I’ll make sure to link the other one to you as well! I hope you enjoy your tale(s)!

I had to give it to the enchanted book I'd been sucked into; I had been given a very simple role. Find the lost prince and return him to his home so he could save the land from the rule of an evil witch.
It was a pretty basic fairytale plot, and I could only hope that finishing the story would result in me going back to Twisted Wonderland. If it didn’t, I really didn’t know what I could do other than place all of my hopes in Silver.
After all, he had been in the room with me when I’d opened the enchanted book that had, quite literally, pulled me into its story.
I scrambled up onto a rock, glancing around in search of some place that looked even vaguely like where I thought a lost prince might hide or be hidden.
To be honest, I fully suspected that he’d been locked away more so than he had been lost, since that seemed far more in line with what I’d expect from a fairytale about a supposedly lost prince.
But then, this particular fairytale had already surprised me in that there was a dude in distress with a lady savior rather than the usual damsel with a male hero. But then, I quite possibly wasn’t actually the hero of this story like I’d been thinking I was.
But no matter exactly what my role was, I was the one attempting to find the lost royal that the country was counting on to save the day.
I felt my eyebrows lift as I spied a shadowy castle that wasn’t terribly far from where I currently stood and did look almost exactly like what I’d expect from a place where a royal in distress would be kept.
I nodded slightly to myself before setting off, my pace fairly leisurely as I made my way towards the dark castle that looked like it had seen better days.
I almost smiled as I noticed the bats fluttering around the towers that stretched up towards the sky. A nice, almost gothic touch to the overall villainous aesthetic of the castle.
What made the place even better from my point of view was that the massive gate was open, and I had no difficulty getting in. In fact, I quite literally just walked into the place.
I did have to admit, though, that the fact that I’d gotten in so easily did beg the question of why this lost prince hadn’t simply escaped or come home on his own?
There was, of course, the possibility that I’d wholly misunderstood this situation and that I was dealing with a runaway prince rather than a hostage situation.
A runaway prince who was plot-ordained to save the country would make for an interesting tale, though it certainly wouldn’t be that of your typical fairytale.
More of a subversion than anything.
I frowned slightly as I walked around the seemingly abandoned castle that looked like it was steadily crumpling into nothing.
It was the sort of place Malleus would like, but that hardly helped my current dilemma.
Because if this prince was a runaway, he would probably be hiding from me. But if he were instead a hostage, like I’d initially suspected, then the first place I’d look would be in the dungeons or the tallest tower.
I glanced up at the towers, grimacing slightly at the thought of going into the mass of rocks that looked like they were about to collapse the very second a wind blew through.
I paused in my survey of the castle, though, feeling my eyebrows arch as I caught sight of a door that looked far heftier than any of the others. And it wasn’t just that either; that section of the castle also seemed far sturdier than the rest.
I rolled my shoulders and braced my hands on the dark wood before pushing, only for nothing to happen, causing me to frown at the weight of the door.
I inhaled deeply, though, and leaned fully into my shove as I dug in with my heels. I breathed through my motions as I slowly started walking forward, pushing the door open slowly but surely before I stumbled to a stop and looked up into the room beyond.
It was mostly dim, with only a bit of sunlight filtering in through the damaged roof above and spotlighting a single area on the dais. But otherwise, it looked wholly uninhabited, and no one was obviously hiding in it either.
I hesitated, though, frowning as I listened closely to a distant sound that slowly became clearer until I could identify it. Footsteps.
I glanced around, my eyes searching for the person, until a figure became visible as it approached the dais.
I felt my eyes widen as he stepped into the light that made his pale hair shine in perfect opposition to the darkness that was all around.
And he looked like a perfect prince. A dark uniform with silver epaulets and a sword hanging at his side. It was almost like I was looking at a picture out of a storybook, and I blinked up at him, hardly believing my eyes as my words failed me.
At odds with my speechlessness, he spoke in an almost tired tone, “Y/n… I wondered where you were.”
I blinked, almost like I was snapping out of a spell at the sound of his soft voice, and my voice returned to me, “You’re the lost prince??”
I openly gaped up at him, but I couldn’t help but be shocked that all of this time I’d been looking for him. Somehow, it seemed oddly fitting. I had gotten the strange sensation that I’d been searching for him my entire life before, but I’d always shaken it off and refused to ask him if he’d ever had that same sensation.
Despite my surprise, Silver was just like he always was. Utterly stoic and seemingly unbothered as he nodded at me.
I could only assume he’d gotten used to his role in this book just I like had, but I still found myself walking towards him with surprise still rolling through me, “You got sucked into the book too?”
It was another rather obvious question, but if he was bothered, he certainly didn’t show it. Instead, he just nodded before calmly walking down the stairs and meeting me in the middle of the room.
“Have you been in this place the whole time?” I found myself scanning him for injuries or anything else of the sort, but he seemed wholly unharmed.
“Yes, this castle seems to be cursed to keep from leaving,” He explained calmly, turning and walking over to the still open door only to be stopped short of exiting by a wall that shimmered into place.
I had been right. He wasn’t a runaway prince at all. He was being held hostage, no doubt by the witch that was currently ruling the country.
I felt myself frown as he stepped backwards, causing the wall to disappear once more as he turned to look back at me.
On the bright side, I now knew why it had been so easy for me to get into this place. But on the down side, I had no idea how to get him off here if this castle was specifically enchanted to keep him in.
And to make matters worse, if I couldn’t get him out, then we were stuck just in here, but in this story, and since he was in here, no one back in Twisted Wonderland would know where we were.
But then, I also didn’t know if finishing this story would get us out. For all I knew, we might be trapped in an endless rotation of the same story over and over again.
I glanced over at Silver before walking over to join him by the open door, “Do you know if finishing the story will get us out of this book?”
I watched him closely and prayed he knew the answer, only to sigh as he shook his head, a slight frown of his own appearing on his face, “No. I’d heard of enchanted books from Father, but he never mentioned how one got out of such a book.”
I watched him silently for a moment before inhaling and turning my gaze back to the door, “Well, working with the idea that finishing the story will get us out. We have to get you out of this castle first.”
I paused, glancing back his way before I continued, “Do you know anything about the curse on this place that’s keeping you inside?”
Again, I was desperately hoping he did because, despite all of the information I had received the very moment I’d woken up in this tale, none of it had anything about cursed castles.
A smile briefly flickered across Silver’s face as he nodded, shifting slightly to better face me, “Yes, ‘Only through the help of another who truly cares can the lost prince escape his home of old.’”
He spoke like he was reciting something, though I didn’t know. Perhaps a prophecy his character came pre-downloaded with or something.
I felt myself frown as I echoed his words, “‘His home of old’?? Was this the old royal castle or something?”
Silver shook his head, the motion disturbing his hair so that it was laying more like it usually did rather than the way it had been carefully placed beforehand.
I let out a hum, abandoning my questions about this story’s plot in favor of focusing on the rest of what Silver had said.
Only through the help of another who truly cares.
It sounded suspiciously like an explanation for how to break a curse since most fairytales usually include some sort of way to save cursed individuals.
Though, admittedly, that usually involved a kiss. A thought that had me avoiding looking at Silver and instead staring out the open door.
After a brief moment, I glanced back over his way once more. At the very least, I did care about Silver. I had for quite some time now, even if I often did my best to avoid thinking about it in favor of not messing up the friendship we currently had.
But, since I cared, that meant that I should be able to get him out of this castle.
I smiled at him slightly and held out my hand, watching as he glanced down at my palm before he reached over and carefully took my hand in his and looked my way expectantly.
I held up our conjoined hands between us, “Trust me?”
A smile flickered across his face at my light teasing before he nodded, and I grinned, “Alright then….”
I trailed off as I lowered our hands and tightened my grip on his hand as I turned to face the door once more. I inhaled, bracing myself before taking a step forward with Silver at my side, following my motions perfectly and even matching my stride as he stepped forward with me.
And at first, there was a strange sensation of being engulfed. Almost like something was pressing in on us from all sides.
And then, as quickly as breathing, it was over, and we were outside. But we weren’t just outside the room. We were also outside the entire castle, and I found myself glancing behind us in surprise.
“I can’t believe it worked…” My words were barely muttered, but were wholly honest. I really had expected it to be harder to actually get him out of the castle.
I turned to look at Silver, only to feel myself go still as my gaze collided with his, and I saw the way he was smiling at me. With gentle fondness. Just like he had ever since I’d gotten to know him.
And though I’d already thought it, I couldn’t help but wonder at how he really was the perfect choice for a fairytale prince. Almost unfairly so.
“W- Well, I guess now all that’s left is to get you back home,” I managed a smile despite the way my voice wavered.
Something flickered in his gaze that bordered on amusement. Almost like he knew exactly what effect he had on me, but he didn’t say anything about it. Allowing me a small bit of dignity even as he squeezed my hand lightly, causing my eyes to widen as he spoke, “And to get both of us back to Twisted Wonderland.”
I blinked slightly before feeling a genuine smile stretch across my face and I nodded, “Yeah.”
I gazed at him for a brief moment longer, letting myself relax now that I wasn’t alone in this storybook and had him by my side. But then something shifted.
He noticed it at the same time I did, his gaze sharpening before he whirled. Putting me behind him as he reached over and grasped his sword.
I stepped closer to him, glancing around warily, “What's going on?”
He shook his head, his voice solemn and lacking all of the warmth it had just previously held when it had just been the two of us standing together, “I don’t know. Something’s wrong.”
His words were the only warning I was given before the world bled away into white, slowly absorbing everything else into it. The last thing I saw was Silver whirling to look back at me with a determined expression before even he disappeared from sight, and all of the whiteness that threatened to blind me turned black.
I twitched slightly, and then my eyes flew open as I inhaled sharply.
The first thing I really registered was Sebek’s voice bellowing “HUMAN!!” as Lilia leaned over me with an amused smile.
I blinked up at the fae in alarm as he titled his head, his eyes glittering with amusement, “Looks like you both made it home just fine.”
I almost frowned in confusion as my brain fought to slowly catch up to reality before I realized that we were in the school library. I shifted before freezing as I realized something was wrapped around my waist that shifted with me.
I slowly twisted, my eyes widening as I made eye contact with Silver, who smiled at me slightly in an almost apologetic fashion as I realized what, or rather, who, I was sitting on.
“Do you know how this story ends, Malleus? It is a Briar Valley classic, after all,” Lilia’s tone was beyond amused as he spoke from behind me.
I heard Malleus hum in response as I sat, frozen in mortified embarrassment, in Silver’s lap. And somehow, Malleus’s response just made it all the worse, “Of course, how could I not? ‘And so they lived happily ever after.’”
