YAYYYYY OKAY OKAY
this is my main laptop, which I’m gonna be using for college. it has a dvd / cd rom, an sd card reader (and writer), 4 usb ports, separate headphone and microphone ports, and a few ports that I’m not even sure what they do. surprisingly, this isn’t my favorite laptop
this is my favorite laptop, which has all the same features as the last laptop (+ an hdmi port and a few extra ports), AND it has the old version of gamemaker. which is the superior programming application imo.
then here’s my compaq. it’s super outdated, but it’s the one I use to write cds with (it has so many ports that I don’t know the function of. I’m not even joshing you here this thing is a mystery to me. I need to look more into it)
then someday I’ll have to show you my brick laptop that doesn’t even turn on, but for some reason I can’t ?? find it rn ?? I literally never move it. that thing got legs and walked away ig
(disclaimer: I don’t wanna come off as a rich kid, so just know that my main laptop was super cheap and the rest I got from my parents when they became impossible to use practically)
(no dw i have a Computer Guy dad i know about getting a bunch of tech that only half-works you're good)
I LOVE YOUR LAPTOPS... desperately need one with a dvd/cd player waghh. unfortunately it does appear your last two laptops are haunted by some sort of white boy ghost. sorry about that. maybe it was he who stole your brick laptop..........

This can get messy. You need to make sure that you're using the right "thing". If you are using a passive adapter or headphones, your phone needs to support audio accessory mode and many don't. The mess is because most dongles, adapters, and headphones aren't labeled with how they are built and we don't know if they are active or passive.
The Pixel 2 has an onboard DAC embedded in its Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, but audio accessory mode isn't supported. That means you need a pair of active headphones or an active adapter, like the dongle that came with the phone. The HTC U11 and Essential Phone are the same, but Motorola makes phones that do support passive headphones through the USB port. All phones should support an active adapter or headphones, though.
One more thing: Not all active USB audio products will work with all phones because manufacturers are able to use several new wires in the USB-C connection for extra features, like HTC did with the U11's earbuds to provide active noise cancellation.
