#Wind stop ranting about Pokemon

It would be so funny if the player could still send texts on their arc phone and decided to send every complaint directly to Arceus
Everything from "Those ungrateful bastards banished me" to "My tummy hurts :("
Bonus points if they hand the phone over to Volo or Ingo and let them rant at god for screwing them over
Tbh if it were me I would let Arceus know every single inconvenience I had with being thrown into the past with no warning.
You let Arceus know no peace, making it very clear of your feelings on the matter.
[There is a leak in my room. You know what didn't have a leak? My old home.]
[They deadass are sending me into the wild??? On my own?? Assuming I have no experience?? They want me dead, Arceus.]
[THEY DONT HAVE COFFEE]
[Why do I have to fight the big scary pokemon?? WHY IS IT A STRANGERS JOB-]
[I think Cynthia's ancestor is stalking me.]
[I REACHED TEN STARS FUCK YEAH]
[WHY do I have to solve this village's problems. How am I the only one doing anything to help here.]
[WHY IS THE TRAIN GUY FROM UNOVA HERE.]
[ANSWER ME ARCEUS.]
[ISNT THIS GUY A CELEBRITY???? ARCEUS. HOW LONG HAS HE BEEN HERE-]
[When i invent mac n cheese, its over for these assholes.]
[Do you think I could piss Cyrus off by adopting his great great grandmother as my own mom?]
[They fucking banned me, Arceus.]
[AFTER EVERYTHING I DID-]
[Volo is def stalking me btw. WHY is he the only one wanting to help me besides the nice lady who also looks like Cynthia-]
[THE SKY IS RED.]
[Did Kamado seriously send Beni to assassinate me or did I just hallucinate that whole encounter.]
[WHY IS IT I KEEPING MEETING PEOPLE WHO WANT TO DELETE THE UNIVERSE WITH GIRATINA]
[If i had a dollar for every time this has happened, i'd have two dollars. It isn't a lot, but its weird its happened twice-]
[HOW COME HE GETS LIKE THE EQUIVALENT OF 8 POKEMON AND I CANT]
[If you had just said hi to him we could have avoided me almost dying TWICE.]
Arceus almost never responds unless you have a genuine question, or need help. But you do find solace in complaining to it.
You later tell Volo that hey, like, you know things are kinda awkward, but you have a means of directly messaging Pokemon God-
He's shaking as you hand him the phone and show him how to use it. At first, Volo for once, doesn't know what to say. He had dreamt of unloading his problems onto Arceus many times, but now?
He is almost at a lost for words.
That is, until you reach around him, showing him your previous conversations.
"Yeah, see here? I kinda bitched at Arceus last week because I'm still not allowed to go home yet. I kinda just use the chat to vent about things most of the time."
Volo stares for a moment, until he's furiously typing. He doesn't stop typing for a good few minutes, sending one very long, winded message, before handing the phone back to you. It's the longest message you have ever seen sent on your phone
The merchant is awfully quiet after that for a little while.

Buggy Pokemon AU!! Putting it below the cut cuz its a bit longer than i meant it to be hahahaha
Tumblr media
Buggy ends up showing up in the pokemon world. His body has gone missing somehow in the isekai process. He can only hope that the rest of him is around here somewhere
He is attacked by every pokemon that sees him. It only stops when a mysterious grey... dog?... thing saves him
He wants to ask this pokemon all his questions but they cant communicate. Still, they seem to sticking around anyway.
So Buggy rants about his woes. He doesnt know where he is, he doesnt know where the rest of him is, he misses his partner Jinx, etc etc etc
The pokemon listens, and then when hes done, it starts gesturing as if they want him to climb onto their back. So he does. And off they go!
He meets people along the way. Everyone throws these weird red and white balls at him the moment they see him... and it really hurts when they bounce off his head! He manages to get someone to stop and listen and they're most helpful. Explaining about pokemon and pokeballs and trainers... this new world hes found himself in sure is flashy!
Meanwhile, Jinx is in the One Piece world desperately trying to figure out how to recreate what happened to Buggy so they can go find him.
After im sure many adventures, Buggy is reunited with the rest of his body!
Someone gives him pokeballs. Everyone is so generous, its shocking to him. He got caught stealing once and the person just shrugged and let him have it. Thats weird and confusing for a pirate
Anyway, first thing he does is try to catch what he now knows is something called a "growlithe". He fails. They apparently do not want to be caught, they just want to be his friend.
He also now understands he's somewhere called "Alola". Some shirtless guy that calls himself a "professor" offers to give him a pokemon. He chooses a little clown seal apparently called Popplio. He names it Buggy Jr.
He also comes across a tiny little clown creature called Mime Jr. He calls it Mini Buggy. His third pokemon is a pile of sludge called Alolan Grimer. Well, its more like the Grimer found him and just won't leave, so he goes ahead and catches it. Calls it "little sludge monster".
(I have not decided if im gonna give him a full team or stop at 3 like the average trainers in the game)
The growlithe sticks around. Even though it refuses to be caught, he takes to calling it Jinx. Something about it just really reminds him of his partner... or maybe he just misses them too much and hes projecting.
Oh I think he meets my human pokemon s/i too! And he feels like the wind got knocked out of him bc why do they have his partner's face?? Not much comes of the interaction. G isnt really interested in talkiny to some weird clown.
The real Jinx manages to crash their way into the pokemon world. Finding Buggy is actually pretty easy. They ask if any brightly clowns have passed by, and after clarifying they DONT mean a mime jr or a mr mime, most people are able to point them in the right direction.
Idk what happens next.

[ Audio file embedded. It sounds a little muffled as if it was taken from inside a pocket.
"—pretty annoying. I mean, I don't think I have had to deal with frost constantly. Makes sense that I got my ass kicked in the region of ice." said the voice of Veracity, the recording starting mid rant.
"Remember that they weren't supossed to be separated from their mother." says Briar with a gentle voice. "They shouldn't be here, but we allowed it since they have imprinted onto you."
"Terrible idea." he scoffs. "Little mutt will end up dead if the weird dreams are premonitions."
"… You said you have been woken up by nightmares frequently?"
A shuffling of cloth can be heard as silence falls over them.
"… Yes. I remember half of them. The rest…. are a mess. I can't make sense of them."
"… Like?"
Veracity scoffs again "Oh you know, watching the few pokemon I have get ripped apart like livestock, dreaming of waking up already half frozen and alone on an icy mountain. The usual."
He pauses for a moment.
"… I dream of you too."
"O-Oh," Briar mutters something, and Vera chuckles.
"They are not good dreams, stop blushing idiot."
"S-Sorry" they giggle. More vague movement can be heard in the background.
"I've dreamt of you getting stabbed, in front of my eyes." Vera suddenly says, making Briar gasp and he keps going before they can say anything about it.
"I've had worse. Most of the time is someone else doing it without me being able to do anything… A few times it has been me."
They both stay quiet again, but a finger tapping can barely be heard in the background.
"There's also several that involve me dying. Very horrific and strange ways too. One of them has me being torn apart by a… thing… with several heards and razor teeth. Another one has a vague dark sillouette summon a gust of wind to throw me off a tower. Another one I can't- I can't tell what it is. The best description I can think of right now is as, as if someone did that 'Demon core' or whatever right in front of me, the radioactive thing, and focused the energy into a wave and made it go towards me."
He huffed, apparently realizing he had been rambling.
"It's fine. I'm fine. It's not important." he tries to be reassuring, but there's a noticeable shake in his voice.
There's the sound of something shifting again, and someone sighs.
"I don't need a hug."
"Uh-hu... but I do."
"I'm fine—." Vera mutters, but doesn't make any move to remove Briar from himself.
The rest of the audio is mostly silence until Veracity picks up his phone and seems to notice the recording, stopping it shortly after. ]

So, came up with a little angsty scenario for the kid!Emmet AU. (It's a little longer than I intended, sorry).
Imagine Kamado, who STILL doesn't trust Emmet, decides to try and take matters into his own hands (because he kinda would given what mochi man said about his history of keeping his people safe from all harm no matter the cost)(and Emmet being far too powerful and intelligent for a 10 year old would set off huge red flags to him).
Emmet is in the Galaxy headquarters (Ingo is there with Irida for whatever reason) and Kamado seeing the opportunity walks up to him and goes 'Look I don't like you, you know this, but I am in a spot of trouble, if you could help I would appreciate it.'
Now Emmet doesn't like Kamado but he does want to prove he's worthy of being in Hisui and the Pearl Clan so he agrees.
Kamado instructs Emmet to gather sand radishes in the Alabastor Icelands for some important recipes, a quick and easy task, and says he would inform Ingo of his whereabouts since he was busy.
Emmet agrees and sets off determined to prove himself, but he doesn't know Kamada is very aware of a big impending blizzard that will blow in right in the middle of his gathering and catch him by surprise.
It takes far too long for the meeting to finish up and at the end Ingo wonders where Emmet went off to. A guard, who overheard what Kamado said informs him of what happened.
Ingo is livid because he knows about the storm as well and suspects what Kamado was trying to do. He represses a feral instinct to strangle the commander and instead sets out to the icelands to find Emmet.
Long story short, he eventually finds Emmet nearly frozen but alive in the snow (the radishes at the side and his pokemon desperately trying to keep him warm in the subzero wind) and takes him back to safety.
The following days result in Emmet having a dangerously high fever and Ingo being on a absolute warpath.
Ingo storms into Kamado's office, Irida at his heels trying to calm him down, and absolutely rips into him about what he's done. Kamado claims that he was not aware of the blizzard before he instructed Emmet to go and profusely apologizes, saying if he had known he would not send a child to do the task. (Irida's wary but buys it hook, line, and sinker. Ingo knows it's a BS excuse to save face, but unfortunately Ingo can't prove he's wrong without making a stir.)
Emmet pulls though eventually (with some scary close calls and Ingo's poor heart nearly collapsing in the process) and Ingo makes sure Kamado knows to never hurt his little brother ever again or he will not live another second.
Holy cow Anon this is an absolutely evil and gut-wrenching scenario and I LOVE it and the way you wrote it.
I wrote an alternate ending for this because... well I don’t think Ingo would be nearly so collected in this situation.
( TW: violence, injury... TL;DR Ingo punches Kamado in the face. I’d skip this one if you’re a Kamado fan. Put it all under the cut )
Ingo is usually loud when he’s angry, he yells and rants. But if Ingo gets angry enough, he’ll go dangerously quiet. This happens very, very rarely, but usually it is a good idea to not be around him when it does.
But after Kamado almost gets Emmet killed, Ingo has never been more furious in his entire life. He’s so angry that he can hardly think, much less speak. He has just handed off little Emmet to a very frantic Pesselle. He stands there for a moment before turning and heading to the stairs. Irida exchanges nervous looks with Adaman, Gaeric, and Melli ( who happen to be around at the time ) and gently asks Ingo if he’s okay, but he doesn’t respond, and this is when Irida knows that something’s wrong. He doesn’t say a word as heads in the direction of Kamado’s office, but the anger rolls off of him in palpable waves, and Irida can barely keep up with him as he stomps from the infirmary to the third-floor of the Galaxy building. She is begging him to stop and think for a second, to be reasonable, but he can’t hear her over the rage that floods his brain. As far as Ingo is concerned, the “reasonable” train left the station back in the Alabaster Icelands where he found his brother half frozen to death, and hasn’t returned since.
The door is closed and he bangs on it with enough force for the sound to reverberate through the entire building. When Kamado opens it Ingo doesn’t even give him the chance to open his mouth before he throws a fist at his face.
The next thing he knows the Commander is flat on his back, his nose bleeding. Ingo’s hand is stinging with pain but he hardly notices it as he starts towards him again. This time, someone--or several someones--are holding him back. It takes the combined effort of Gaeric, Melli, and Adaman to drag him out of Kamado’s office.
The three of them wrangle Ingo back into his house and basically hold him there until he cools off. This takes several hours, and it isn’t an easy job to keep him contained. He keeps trying to leave and Gaeric keeps shoving him back from the door. Eventually he stops trying and takes his fury out on every breakable object in the house instead. By the time he’s done he doesn’t have a single plate left, not that he had many to begin with, and the kitchen looks like a tornado has blown through.
Finally, he calms down enough to communicate in words again. By this time it is well into the night and Ingo has been separated from his brother and the Galaxy Headquarters for far too long. The first question he asks Melli is, “How is Emmet?” and Melli, surprised to hear his voice, although its not like he hasn’t heard it before, answers that he’s fine, but that Ingo is in major trouble.
“What were you thinking, taking a swing at Kamado like that?” he asks him. “I mean don’t get me wrong, it was awesome and hilarious and you’ve got a seriously impressive right hook, but you’re in deep shit now.”
Its only then that Ingo really stops to think about what he’s done. Did he really punch Commander Kamado? He wonders what he was thinking, but can only come to the conclusion that he wasn’t thinking at all. He can’t even remember making the conscious decision to do what he did. In fact, he can’t remember much of the previous five hours at all. He looks around him and notices the complete mess he’s made for the first time. Immediately, he mumbles an apology to Melli and gets to work on cleaning everything up. Melli helps, commenting on the poor, innocent dishes and how they did absolutely nothing to Ingo as he does.
The following morning Ingo is called into a meeting at the Commander’s office. He’s resigned himself to being “fired” from his job as a warden and probably kicked out of Jubilife Village, too, but he can’t really bring himself to feel apologetic about what he’s done. When he gets there, Kamado is standing behind his desk looking as intimidating as ever, although he looks a little less so with the large white bandage across his nose.
He doesn’t ask Ingo to sit because “I’m going to make this quick, and I doubt you will, anyway.” Ingo expects the next words out of his mouth to be something along the lines of “get out of my Village and never come back” but Kamado surprises him.
“I can see that you’re serious about making me regret doing anything you perceive as threatening towards young Emmet.”
“I am,” Ingo assures him.
“I can admit that I didn’t take your threat seriously at first. That was my mistake.”
“It was.”
“I know it was wrong of me to ask Emmet to do what I asked of him. It was stupid and irresponsible of me. For that, I am sorry.” he pauses a second, as if expecting Ingo to say something at this moment, perhaps even to accept his apology, but he doesn’t. Instead, he lets the silence hang uncomfortably in the air until the Commander fills it. “I’m willing to look past your... temporary lapse in judgement if you can promise me that it won’t happen again.”
At this Ingo forces his lips up into a smile that he can tell looks just as chilling and unnatural as it feels by the look on Kamado’s face.
“As long as you don’t try to kill my brother again, I don’t anticipate having any more ‘lapses in judgement.’ But that’s really up to you, isn’t it, Commander?”
Kamado stares at him for several long moments before finally caving. “Yes, I suppose it is,” he concedes. Then: “Get out of my office, Warden.”
Ingo never has a problem with Kamado again.

I am interested in your Pokemon gym leader au if you want to talk about it
ah thanks for letting me rant a little! in this au, the kingdom of hyrule is a pokemon region who's league operates similarly to that of galar. there are eight gym leaders (which can be challenged in any order) and a champion. the title of champion is granted to whoever wins the tournament at the end of the year between any who have managed to get all eight badges, the gym leaders, and the current champion.
unfortunately, the kingdom of hyrule is facing a problem: a challenger hasn't been able to make it to the final tournament in years, leaving the title of champion to be hot potatoed between 9 extremely competitive, extremely petty, and extremely competent trainers who are somehow all named Link.
the au would essentially be a bunch of interconnected one shots / slice of life bits about them running their gyms, facing off, dealing with dink as he repeatedly fails to start an evil team with increasingly stupid names, and them generally causing mayhem for the royal family despite the links being in public positions of responsibility
featuring:
Current Champion and Reigning Smug Asshole Time
Assistant Paleontologist and Rock Type Specialist Wild
Shut Up Warriors Normal Type is Viable Legend
Former Nurse Joy, Fairy Type Leader Hyrule
Please Stop Jumping Off Buildings Its Scaring Away Challengers, Flying Type Specialist Sky
I Just Wanna Tend My Gogoats, Ground Type Leader Twilight
No You Cant Just Use Your Gym as a Personal Forge, Steel Type Leader Four
Thwarter of Bergeoning Evil Teams Who Keep Mistaking Him for a School Kid, Water Specialist Wind
Keeps Getting Punched By Pokemon, Fighting Type Leader Warriors

joe merrick of serebii tweeted that he suspects pokemon legends: arceus won’t be fully open world. the supposition was mostly based on the fact that the map seems to have subregions that are obscured, meaning that as one progresses through the game they will be able to access more areas. merrick ended his tweet saying, “i’m fine with this really”
IGN, eurogamer, and even game rant (bleh) reported on the story emphasizing that the graphics point in the direction of the game not being “fully open world” with no hard conclusion. when kotaku finally took its turn regurgitating the facts they used the headline “pokemon legends: arceus is clearly not going to be open-world”
from my understanding, none of the promotional materials of pokemon legends has ever stated that the game was going to be open world. i suppose the way it has been presented has enabled this idea to spread, but i believe that the fandom made this assumption mostly based on their own comparisons between the gameplay footage and breath of the wild
i could go on a tangent about my distaste for fandom “journalism” but instead i just want to note the judgmental tone of kotaku’s headline. it certainly seems to participate in a larger trend in gaming that seems to conceive of open world games as the pinnacle of gaming and everything else as inferior. nintendo is certainly aware of the popularity of open world games, mimicking the success of super mario odyssey and breath of the wild with pokemon legends: arceus, kirby and the forgotten land, and a rumored upcoming donkey kong game
the valorization of open world games and current surge of titles participating in the trend feels like the death of plot. i have complained time and time again about how breath of the wild fails to capture the narrative richness of ocarina of time, wind waker, and twilight princess, how its lack of sequence and insistence on free choice decreases my investment as a player
it feels like these games are courting an audience who interprets any amount of restriction as a failure on the part of the game. they do not want a game to be a unique piece of art with a viewpoint and a message and a story it wants to convey. they want a game to be a vehicle through which they can exorcise the restlessness, powerlessness, and lack of agency they feel in their own lives under late capitalism (a feeling they are unlikely to be able to articulate or put a finger on), and thus any constriction via a direct narrative is the enemy
i shared these frustrations with @escaliburn who added that in their attempts to provide complete freedom to the player, open world titles often fail to actually contain a game within them
we need to push for games that actually tell stories again, games that are actually games. we need nintendo to stop excising the unique, charming, and fun elements of their own franchises in order to court an audience who does not care if a game has heart

You say the story of Rescue Team frustrates you? How come?
Rant ahead. Rant ahead about a game I unironically love, but I spend far too much time overthinking the plot of, hence my grievances.
Maybe I just held it to unfair standards on account of playing it for the first time after Explorers of Sky. Which is easily the greatest pokemon game ever made, accept no substitutes. Nah, Rescue Team DX is addicting, the music is incredible as always in these games, and the gameplay has been massively overhauled and made far superior to the original, which while fun, was pretty buggy. And the game does have some pretty cool characters, too. Like...whatever I may yell to the heavens about Albus Dumbledore from HP, make no mistake that he’s an exceptional and three-dimensional character. Same goes for Snape. And that applies to this game as well.
The main reason this game’s story irritates me comes down to Gengar and Alakazam. Again, they’re very well written characters...but I hate them. I despise both of them. I don’t know what it is, but Alakazam rubbed me the wrong way right from the start. Him and his whole team are so self-important, so arrogant. They condescend the MC and act like they’re the ruling body of the town square. Alakazam goes around telling people that he knows everything. That’s a god complex if you ask me. At several points, the characters make decisions based on the assumption that he is stronger than the MC, which you as a player never get to challenge. (Think of Leon from Sword/Shield, but a million times worse.) The Partner character is so in awe of them, so enamored by them. Yet behind MC’s back, Alakazam knows (or suspects) them to be the human of legend and doesn’t tell them “for their sake.” Which gives me strong Nozomi (SMT IV: Apocalypse) vibes, since later on he ignores all responsibility for having been "complicit" with the MC's secret.
The Fugitive Arc doesn't make any damn sense. First of all, Xatu claims that the disasters, all of the trouble, are being caused by the Human from the Ninetales Legend. Ninetales later debunks this. When I first played this game, I legitimately thought Xatu would wind up being some kind of secret villain, that he had lied, and that the Fugitive Arc was all started by him. This doesn't wind up being true, and we never get an answer for why he thought the Human of Legend was responsible for the state of affairs, nor did anyone question his being wrong or acknowledge his role in all this. But the one who really started everything was Gengar. He doesn't really annoy me until the Post-Game (I'll get to that) but everyone else's reactions to Gengar's story bother me. He is a known liar, a known trouble-maker who no one likes. It's well known that he has a vendetta against the MC. He has no proof whatsoever of his allegations. And everyone just buys it, despite MC now having a great reputation, because...I guess MC didn't actively deny it? Which the player was given no agency in? And it doesn't stop the accusation from being ridiculous?
Enter Alakazam. Apparently, everyone held a town meeting that must have taken all of ten seconds, to decide what to do about MC. They held this meeting without MC or the Partner present, because having them there would make too much sense I guess. Team A.C.T. prepares to...I guess kill MC? As well as the Partner, even though they're completely innocent. Before Alakazam hesitates and decides to give the MC a day to run away. Hold on, if he is so convinced that MC has to die to save the world, how do he justify letting them go? I guess the same way he justifies how he "knew" MC was the human of legend this whole time and said nothing about it? He bids MC to run, and throughout the entire Fugitive Arc, his team is the looming threat. Which was quite frustrating for me, already a Diamond Rank and probably higher leveled than Team A.C.T, because I would have been happy to settle things with Alakazam right then and there. It is beyond frustrating that the story denies me this chance. Not to mention, half of the town shows up to say goodbye when MC and the Partner take off. Like...okay, at least half of the town believes in MC. How in the hell is this even happening? Why do we have to flee when so many characters are on our side? When there's no proof? Why is Alakazam's word just considered law? If he “knows everything” how come he doesn’t know that Gengar is human as well, if he could sense MC’s humanity?
You don't know how badly I wish there was a fight with Team A.C.T. when all was said and done. And the game could have done it, too! Just have it take place at the top of the Mt. Freeze, before Ninetales shows up. They have a skirmish that takes place in a cutscene, but even in the remake - there's no boss battle. Why not? It's not like this dungeon has a boss battle otherwise. Wouldn't it have been a fitting conclusion to this arc? Maybe I'm biased, maybe I just think it would have been cathartic to kick Alakazam's ass, to make him put his money where his mouth is...because again, the arrogance. He demands Ninetales tell him what happened, and that "depending on your answer, I may be forced to eliminate MC" Ah, slow your roll there, buddy. Ninetales already broke up the fight and made it clear that it's not going to happen. You're a guest in their domain. On top of that, Team A.C.T. basically forbids you from going to Magma Cavern to challenge Groudon. As if you haven't just proven yourself capable of braving dangerous dungeons. As if, after they chased you halfway around the world and were proven completely wrong, they have any right to talk down to you or tell you what to do. Again, I so, so wish we could have fought them and taught them a lesson.
In general, this is a consistent thing with the other characters, following the Fugitive Arc. Everyone focuses on how happy MC and the Partner must be to have their names cleared, (Again, the Partner was accused of nothing. Like, literally nothing.) and no one stops to address that everyone in the Town Square should be falling to their knees and begging our forgiveness for what they put us through. Several of them tried to kill us. Upon returning to the Town Square, Gengar acts like MC is turning them-self in because they don't have any proof, even though he never had any proof to begin with, and it's only after MC is "cleared" by Team A.C.T. that everyone remembers that Gengar is untrustworthy. Reading the words "under the watchful eye of Alakazam" has always made me extremely salty. I don't have much to say about the Mankey brothers but they irritated me as well. Maybe I was just out of patience after the Fugitive Arc but I found myself wondering why we appeased them at all. Initially, we give them the chestnuts because they attack us if we don't. No matter how many times we beat them, they keep attacking if they're told no. I realize it's a staple in Pokemon games to have false yes/no choices, but those are especially noticeable in the games that focus on story. And sometimes the excuses are just pathetic. Meanwhile, the other pokemon continue to treat you as rookies, as kids. You are once again "forbidden" by...um, the other townsfolk, from going on the Rescue Mission until you talk them into it. It's like...guys. You put us through hell. We could have died a dozen times over, because you bought into the mob mentality for no good reason. How does everything just go back to normal after that?
I don't mind Gengar at first. He's a villain, and a well-written one. He's got a clear personality and there's hidden depth in there as well. He's one of my favorite characters in the game, easily. And all of the stuff he does in the main story? Stealing the mail, manipulating Caterpie, and the stuff during the Fugitive Arc? That weird psychedelic sequence where he's dragging MC down to hell at the end? (Or whatever that was?) All fine by me. He's a villain. He's doing bad things. But sweet Arceus is Gengar annoying in the Post-Game. I wonder if this must be how Merula Snyde Antis feel, over in the HPHM Fandom. Because the MC has absolutely no motivation or reason to help him out. He just demands that they act as his bodyguard, offers nothing in return, and won't leave you alone until you say yes. Buddy, my team has like thirty pokemon at this point and they're all hanging out in the Friend Areas a few feet away. You think you can intimidate me? The only reason I'm helping is to progress the storyline. And throughout this entire storyline, you have to help Gengar even though he hasn't earned it.
He does not deserve forgiveness, or a reconciliation with Gardevoir. What if I don't want to help him because I don't think Gardevoir would want to see him? What if I think that it would do her no good to see him? He's unrepentant and awful, the story does the bare minimum to suggest that he's changed. Now I will admit one thing: I love the moment that Ninetales first appears, sees Gengar, and simply goes "...What do you want." Like. Like that was the moment that I put it together, before he went on to tell the rest of the story. I love simple moments that make the big reveal crystal clear without needing to directly tell or show the audience. I've always dug that. But everything that happens after that is frustrating. Gengar demands the curse be lifted, despite having no justification to offer Ninetales. He threatens to attack them, but then clarifies that MC will be the one doing the fighting. Excuse me? Why would I ever do that? MC just found out the truth about Gengar, what he did to Gardevoir, and then how he pinned it all on them during the fugitive arc. Gengar, why would I attack Ninetales after this, instead of attacking you? Tell me I don't initiate battle against you right now? Thankfully MC doesn't have to actually fight Ninetales, but they are still forced to testify at Gengar's "trial" and it's a forgone conclusion because no matter what answers you give, it's treated as MC acknowledging his growth and he is forgiven at the end.
Oh, I’ve just thought of something else. MC isn’t given a reason for why they have to leave the Pokemon world, or why they were able to return. Explorers gave a reason. Gates to Infinity and Super Mystery Dungeon made a whole post-game story out of their reasons. Here? We get nothing. MC’s “role” has finished and so they have to return to the human world. Never mind what they want. Not until after the dramatic moment where they have to leave has passed, anyway. That voice at the end who suggests that we may be able to see our partner again just by “wishing.” Who the hell was that? What did they mean? Look, by Pokemon standards, the Rescue Team story is quite substantial. By Pokemon Mystery Dungeon standards? It’s...probably the weakest story. I mean, to be fair, Super Mystery Dungeon had the endless schoolhouse arc that added up to nothing in the second act. But hell, that was still fun. And I suppose the Fugitive Arc and Gengar’s “redemption” were fun too. Just frustrating as well.

ANNOUNCEMENT: NOT A HELLO, BUT NOT A GOODBYE EITHER
omg hi ... im like . ashamed to come back after saying brief hiatus in october and then disappearing off the face of the earth til FEBRUARY but under the cut i will be explaining myself and the following, if youre interested (and a tl;dr at the very bottom if you don’t wanna scroll thru this obnoxiously long post):
the reason(s) i was gone for so long
what i was doing during that time (its just a personal account yall can scroll past this idrc)
the status of those um . halloween requests
the future of this account
i. so . Hiatus .
i know. i know . i probably mentioned it when i made the announcement post, but my mental health likes to go on one of those rides. yknow the ones where you go like up rlly fast then down maybe and then up then DOWN .... its like that. i needed a break and every time i wanted to come back or thought about it, something would happen and i would get stuck in my own head.
a big reason for getting stuck in my head was (and i hate to admit this ... i hate to admit that i have Insecurities On The Internet) my feelings of inadequacy regarding my writing. i love to plot fics, i love concepts and characters and making little headcanons but i dont ... know if i love writing rn. and i thought for the longest time that like . whatever ill just push thru it its fine ill be fine but it kinda wasnt lmao you can kinda see it in my halloween reqs and what become of them when i get to that but i began to feel like nothing i had put out or would put out would hold up prose wise (and normally i dont feel like this im much more “idc its my life im living it” but thats not a rant for tumblr LMAO). i still feel like that -- like im better as a reader than a writer. but . You Know :-)
tl;dr: mental state go brrrrr
ii. anywhere here’s wonderwall
when i left, i was in a steadily decreasing mental and emotional state, made worse by a situation at work that really was a case of petty jealousy on my end and rlly isnt very consequential now despite how much pain and resentment it gave me when it Was a problem so i wont get into it. the tl;dr of november and december was me using work as an crutch and distraction -- i know my job, i do it well, it helped me not think about my responsibilities and obligations and inadequacies. of course, as the holiday season grew busier n busier i was scheduled so often that i moved 88 or so miles (according to my apple watch, which i ONLY wear at work since im never anywhere else outside my house) and fell into a cycle of showering n sleeping at my house before going back the next day. (theres definitely something to be said abt capitalism and “grind culture” here but once again its not the time or place snsjkdfds)
at the turn of the new year, i happened to remember a birthday card i hadnt filed away for safekeeping from a friend of mine that id been horribly out of touch with til that point. i started crying because i realized how out of touch id been in general up until that point. the month of january was great for me: i was focused, happy, and in a much better place than i had been before. the end of it brought me down focus wise and im hoping that enough time away from my distractions will refocus me bc i ... need it LMAO and though ive burned out from that level of productivity and gotten distracted again im ... trying to stay positive which i think is the most i can do 😁👍🏼
media wise, i got real into stardew valley (but burned out bc i played it extensively as a way to wind down after work), the pokemon platinum romhack renegade platinum (still havent finished it bc of school n i played it w the intent to see if i could nuzlocke it ... bitch its so hard but its so fun bc of it), briefly assassins creed: odyssey (im one of those ppl who completes an entire region before i move to the next so you can tell i burned out of that one + wouldnt have the time to properly devote to it even if i didnt), got back into genshin impact after pulling for xiao (after not touching it for like . months), and danganronpa. yes . danganronpa 😐 i Know. i stopped playing it after the second trial of the first game bc i was so hurt by the outcome and picked it up in late january only to get sucked in (thank god i had the foresight to buy the second and third games during the steam winter sale). rn im at the start of chapter 4 if anyone wants to come in my asks and um . talk to me abt danganronpa
tl;dr: I’m Into Danganronpa Now
iii. you realize halloween was three months ago right
i mentioned this in the first section, but i love to plot things. every request is plotted or at least has a solid foundation. i had fun detailing what concept i wanted to go with considering what i was given, and there were some bangers i might touch up in the future. but heres whats going to happen to the requests themselves:
there are two finished requests. one will be posted tomorrow and the other will be touched up (just bc i finished it doesnt mean its good 🧍‍♂️) and scheduled for next saturday. as for the ones i never got around to ...
i will not be finishing those requests. i hate to be That Person, but i feel like we all expected this 🧍‍♂️ what i will do is post all of my notes for each request in batches -- requests that have an @ to go with them will be mentioned in the post proper, but anon asks will be pictured. (there are some asks that came from blogs who are now deactivated but i wrote down all the prompts and remember most of those askers so ill cross that bridge when i get there) there will most likely be an excerpt or two simply bc i think i mightve written a few plot points or interactions in the form of bullet points. i rlly am sorry about doing this but i remember looking at my notion doc with all the prompts and feeling ... like i wasnt measuring up n it wasnt just to myself or to some intangible concept of “other” id constructed but it was instead to those who requested n actually WANTED to see and hear and read my writing and i ...... im gonna admit thats another big reason i avoided this site.
regardless, youll definitely get what i have (and likely more than just my bullet points and illegible handwriting).
tl;dr: im sorry. what i have in terms of plot, concept, and interaction for every request will be posted, but i cant say ill ever complete them and mean it.
iv. so what now?
well i mean . im not entirely sure how sold i am on haikyuu in the content creation department (as a creator n to a lesser extent, as a consumer). as mentioned previously, its no longer my primary focus. it doesnt mean im not into haikyuu anymore; i have a lot of love for those boys but i cant rlly say im even caught up w recent fandom activity and also havent even finished s4 pt2 LMAO thats on my to do list
and despite all that, i still want to share my plots n concepts and snippets and maybe even fics. it wont happen anytime soon. it might not even happen. but i mean . its better than me saying i wont write ever again shjdkfs but either way ill probably use this blog as a personal blog w the occasional ask game for dialogue prompts (those are always so fun i love making up aus to fit like . the most mundane prompts)
as for my works (past and any potential future), ive opened an ao3 acc here n ill be editing n possibly expanding on my old works to post there. tumblr, to me, is The x reader hub, but i figure more x reader fics on ao3 is never a bad thing.
ill be deleting/posting drafted posts to the queue since they were all meant to be queued anyway as well as (sorry again 🧍‍♂️) deleting or answering asks in the inbox. (moots if you get a notif from me saying i rbed your post from months ago ... mind your business) im very hard to get ahold of and its ... a problem. expect an overhaul of the nav n shit to reflect my new direction n also because i feel like i cant tell if my passion for carrd is shared by the majority HSDKLFS maybe its better to read my info in a normal post ykwim .......
and of course . if youve read all this n decided im no longer worth the follow, i sure as hell cant stop you. thank you for wanting to, at some point, hear what i have to say -- it means more than you think.
tl;dr: writing will be edited and reposted to ao3, this blog will be a personal blog with a hint of writing (sometimes)
Tumblr media
the tl;dr to end all tl;drs:
im back! i wont be as active as i used to due to a lessened interest in haikyuu in general, but i have an ao3 acc now where all my past work will be edited, possibly expanded, and reposted. any future work will also find itself there. my halloween requests will be posted in batches as incomplete concepts, plots, and snippets of scenes; i wont be promising to finish any of them.
there are still fic concepts im attached to and want to finish, but i cant promise any more writing on my end. this blog will be a personal blog with maybe writing, not a writing blog with my personal thoughts all over it.
regardless if you stick around or not, its been crazy sexy cool (equal emphasis) being on haikyuu tumblr even tho i wasnt around for long ... even tho its not my main focus anymore, im still excited to see what the future might hold 🤝
love, ari 💌

5 Fave Male Characters
Thank you for the tag, @pandoramusicbox09...I needed a distraction for a hot minute and this works wonderfully.
I feel like I’ve seen one of these from everyone I know, BUT if you wanna do it and haven’t been tagged yet, pretend like I tagged you (and tag me back and everything, I got you, fam).
1. Cal Leandros from the Nightlife Series
Tumblr media
They don’t all have to be from animes, right? Because this is MY MAN right here. Caliban Leandros. I don’t know where to start with this kid...he’s half human, half Auphe (aka worst little homicidal gremlins the world’s ever seen) and he fights monsters with his big bro Niko in the streets of NYC. Cal is unapologetic, vulgar, and has more attitude than any other character that exists and I love him, okay? The thing that really drew me to this series of books (the Nightlife series as it’s dubbed, by Rob Thurman) is that Cal narrates them completely in his own voice, shitty opinions and everything. He’s hilarious, he’s fun, he’s tough as nails, and gives you as much information as he has at the moment to keep you aware of the situation. But many times, he doesn’t know what’s going on either, and it’s a wonderful ride of a dark urban fantasy through the eyes of a guy just trying to make it without getting killed by werewolves, boggles, and worse by his own Auphe kind. Gah, just read the books, it’s amazing, I can’t recommend it enough.
2. Tenya Iida from My Hero Academia
Tumblr media
Okay, we back to anime. See everyone posting Izuku, and while he’s GREAT, and I’ll let ya get back to it, let me tell you about Iida. I scream “BEST BOI” whenever he’s on screen chopping away, because, well, just look at him! He is doing THE MOST at all times. He is so animated! He is a big soft boi. He is an insanely good friend to everyone and cares about things running (haha pun) smoothly. He must uphold order! It’s funny for me to put him right after Cal because they’re polar opposites in this regard. But I can’t help loving Iida so much because like, he has the biggest heart and so much drive to be the best hero he can be in his own right. I don’t remember ever hearing Iida lament about hero rankings or if they’re important to him, he just wants to do the job and do it well, and GOSH, YES, BABY, YOU WILL!
3. Drew/Shuu from Pokemon
Tumblr media
Okay. Okay okay, we going back like ten years with this one, but let me tell you, WORTH IT. And not just because I shipped the hell out of Contestshipping, but just because I enjoyed this little snot during his whole run. He was what rivals in the Pokemon series were meant to do - antagonize the heroes, but never side with villains. Drew was such a multifaceted rival, after we just got done with Gary, and although he acted a lot like Gary, it was DIFFERENT. For all of us with eyes, you could tell he liked May right from the get-go, but that didn’t stop him from motivating her to do better in his own ways. He was also kind of a badass? He was never afraid of Team Rocket or Harley...shit, my man is taking a Razor Wind to the face up there for his Absol. Guy had ambition. So after all that build-up, when May FINALLY defeats him? It’s SO GOOD. And he isn’t a jerk about it! He wants her to have that win and then invites her to Johto with him, because AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH. I’ll forever die on that ship.
4. Bolin from The Legend of Korra
Tumblr media
Again, another big soft boy who is doing THE MOST and TRYING HIS HARDEST. I always felt Bolin got the short end of the stick, seasons 1 to 3 of Korra; just felt my man was there for comic relief and THAT’S IT. And honestly, I don’t think I’m wrong. But I’m not here to rant. Despite being relegated to the background in many cases, Bolin continued to be such an asset to the Krew, and goddamnit, the way he Earth bends is pretty incredible? I think I posted something about it ages ago, but seriously, his style is way different than other Earth benders - he’s way more fluid and quick on his toes. It’s kind of incredible, so explains the GIF I chose. But really, Bolin is such a teddy bear, big friend who will beat up the guy that made you cry or just take you out to dinner, whatever you need, he is there. I just enjoyed everything about him...made the first season debacle watchable tbh.
5. Shield Hero - Naofumi Iwatani - from Rise of the Shield Hero
Tumblr media
Mmmhmmmm...I clearly love big softies or total assholes. There is no in-between. Okay, just kidding, all the assholes are soft on the inside, and that goes for Naofumi. This poor bastard really goes through the ringer and even though he grows an attitude out of no where about it, I can’t help but be like “big same, me too”. I love how what happened to him doesn’t really keep him down for long and he’s like “if this is my life now, then I’ll make it a good one” and he really does. No joke, some of my favorite episodes are of just him, Raphtalia, and the big chicken doing stuff “around town” and selling shit or collecting stuff from the overworld. I love seeing my man getting his bread. I can’t wait for season 2 of this anime...Naofumi is definitely one of the more interesting isekai heroes and a husbando.

Headcanons pt.4
Middle school and early high school
I know American class but also Japanese class schedules. I don’t know if I want either or a hybrid.
Based off this post (If i can find it)
Naruto-band
Shikamaru has a knack for playing the drums, but he's never serious about it. He plays the drums because the systematic rhythm helps him think of strategies for shoji.
Has been asked multiple times to join the jazz band in Spring. He refuses everytime because it cuts his time in shoji, but once he gets his own cubie in the band hall he sets up his shoji board and plays it when he has free time.
Hinata has played the violin but hates the way her fingers hurt after being forced to play for long hours.
So she seeks asylum in the band hall, and has secretly taken lessons how to play the saxophone. It's her favorite of all the wind instruments.
She has been asked to join the spring jazz band, despite not being an actual member. She easily took the first chair when they were evaluating their skills.
Choji has been following a senior that's been teaching him the guitar, he's in the brass section playing the tuba. Has been asked to replace the senior when he gets older and wants to.
Naruto is in the brass section with Kiba but only Kiba is the trumpet player. Naruto is a trombone player and tells dad jokes. He didn’t fit the mold of a trumpet player but he still loves it regardless.
But his energy is definitely on par, if not greater than the rest. He will always cheer up everyone around him and is a part of the cheerleading squad.
Hates that there aren't anyone other guys. He just wants to flip off someone's shoulders. Damnit!
He's flipped off Sasuke's and Shikamaru's shoulders before. In Sasuke's case, it was during elementary/primary. They were on the playground and this was Naruto’s second ever attempt to land a backflip. They couldn’t do it because the teacher caught them when a group started forming and they started betting their snacks from lunch to see if Naruto failed or not.
They continued their promise after school and Naruto broke his arm, but he did do it right after. He ate like a King the next day. It was great for him.
The first time Naruto did it was completely by accident and because he was so excited that he got a trampoline.
He’s never taken gymnasium classes before and has not seen a backflip before. But he somehow did it. It still shocks his parent’s to this day. Sasuke and him are neighbors and he came over to see what Naruto was so happy about.
Sasuke came just in time to see him do it. It was the greatest moment of his life because then Naruto tried to do it again and fell flat on his face.
In shikamaru’s case it was during middle school and they were next to the pool. They were at Sasuke’s house for the day because he had a cool deck and pool.
Naruto wanted to jump off his shoulders into the pool. Shikamaru agreed because he didn’t think Naruto could actually do it. He realized his mistake when Naruto beamed in total confidence and Sasuke moved away from the pair.
Naruto didn’t do his back flip because Shikamaru moved the second Naruto decided to jump, without warning.
Needless to say, Shikamaru didn’t support his legs enough and Naruto accidently kicked him in the chin. Naruto ended up on the pool, back first, and Shikamaru fell on his ass.
Naruto swims up to the edge of the pool and looks at Sasuke, trying so hard not to laugh.
Naruto: Did I do it?!
Sasuke, trying to reclaim his composer: No, not at all.
Shikamaru, on the ground rubbing his chin: How did you even hit me!?
Naruto: Again!
Shikamaru: No!
Sasuke, running inside to get a camera or phone to record it: Yes!
Naruto is sometimes very confused as to why he is going to a house, when he has an apartment and his milk is about to expire! Also, his stash of untouched ramen!
Kushina: Naruto, sweetie. Where are you going?
Naruto: My apartment!
Minato: Naruto, we have a house.
Naruto: What’s that? Is it edible?
Kushina: Sometimes. During winter.
Naruto: Why winter?
Kushina: There are houses made of cookies.
Naruto: Really?!
Kushina, nodding along: Yup!
Anyway after High school they sometimes played together. Naruto had to buy a new entire trumpet because he rented from the school. Hinata bought her saxophone and has kept it under maintenance.
Shikamaru’s parents bought him his drum set and he learned how to play on his own. Choji does keep up with his guitar lessons but he did save up alot to get his electric guitar and a bass.
Card games
Hinata, Sasuke, and Shikamaru cannot play competitive and strategic card/board games. Scrabble, poker, 21, War, Bullshit is off the list. A Lot of decks, mostly up to 3 at a time and they are very distinguished between all of them.
Sakura refuses to play but does rude commentary to any group she is overseeing. Usually magic, because of Sasuke.
Choji doesn’t play anything but he does place bets on who would win with his snacks.
Magic the gathering.
Sasuke, Itachi played. Black Commander Deck
Sai, again his older brother. Green and Black Commander Deck.
Tenten; She found it and didn’t want something that Lee and Neji enjoy. Standard White and Blue Deck.
Yu-gi-oh.
Hinata; only because Neji played. Silent Magician Deck
Neji; because Lee played. He didn’t want to seem stupid. Hero elemental deck
Lee, he just likes the anime. But does have Yusei’s deck
Ino, she likes the pictures on Toon town and they let her do whatever but to some extent.
Both.
Kiba; Rarely, Magic first. Green and Red Commander. Gear deck
Naruto; Rarely, yugioh first Odd-eyes deck and Black and White Standard Deck.
Kiba, dissing on Yugioh.
Naruto: Shut up, your mother buys you mega blocks instead of legos.
Hinata and Sasuke are both petty about each other’s card games. They each have respective sleeves and taunt each other, constantly.
Neji and Lee look at Tenten on the magic side and hate that she betrayed them. She’s just glad that they don't harp on her in her card game.
Pokemon.
Shikamaru, because no one knows how to fucking play.
Shino only collects the cards.
Shino showing Shikamaru his deck.
Hinata: Oh, are you playing?
Shino: You can play it?
Shikamaru has tried to teach Shino. Shino doesn’t sleeve his cards and when they take damage, he puts some non wet, non greasy food on his card.
Once the pokemon dies, Shino eats the snack. There are crumbs everywhere and Shikamaru’s pet peeve is being messy. Shikamaru appreciates Hinata’s and Sasuke’s sleeves.
Shows
Ino loves Reality TV and other things. But hates the Kardasians. Loves Rupaul drag race.
Sai is often encouraged by Ino to watch anime around her and he also finds anime that she thinks he hasn’t seen.
Sai has brought up Keeping up with the Kardasians and it was a mistake, he thought she would like it.
Ino: The Kardaisians are garbage and Kyle Jenner is a fake as hoe!
Sakura, from another room, hearing Ino rant: Did someone bring up the Kardasians?
Sai: Yeah.
Ino: Never do that again dear.
Sai: Got it sweetheart.
Ino has never actually called any other of her partners by a pet name but she does with Sai and they act like a married couple sometimes. They never talked about it. I mean they have shared stuff about each other that no one else knows. Coming out to each other, learning together because they both feel safe and comfortable with each other. Trust each other a lot.
Elementary bus crew.
Morning
Konoha 12 except Hinata
Naruto was so used to being independent that he has left his house on his own for school. It has freaked his parents more than once but they just watch over him as he goes to school.
Naruto always spots a red haired kid on the opposite of his bus stop with two older people that he holds their hands. Naruto always waves at him and waits until the day he waves back.
Gaara is very affected by his past life, like he was carving the kanji for love when his mom walked in because Temari tried to stop it but couldn’t take the blade away from him. She got slashed on her arm as a result.
Karura walks in and gasps softly.
Karura: Gaara sweetie.
Gaara: Mama, you're alive?
Karura: Of course. Please put the knife down.
Gaara: Knife?
Gaara completes carving in perfect kanji and stops once he completes it. Then the pain registrator for him
Choji is allergic to mustard, he found out in elementary and by accident. Shikamaru went to the teacher and Hinata stayed with Choji because he was rubbing his face and making his hives worse.
Afternoon
Rest of the Konoha 12 except (Hinata Neji and Shikamaru) No Sai yet.
Middle school. Bus Crew
Morning
Konoha 12 except Hinata, Ino, and Sakura
Afternoon
Konoha 12 Except Hinata, Tenten, Neji and Sasuke
High school bus crew.
Morning
Hinata was too scared to do it on her own in elementary, she tried in middle school and failed, but she succeeded in high school. She has to wake up an extra hour and walk to her stop but she doesn’t after freshman year. She got used to it
Afternoon
Everyone unless they have clubs, even then there is an after after school bus.
Hinata and Neji are on the richer side of town and everyone in middle school often joked about how they are on the west side while everyone else is on the east side.
They all meet on sports day. The other schools were pitted against each other east versus west.
Sakura, Sasuke, and Naruto were in a group together and were mocking Neji from a distance.
Naruto: Ew, is that a West sider?!
Sakura: Is that a boy or girl?
Naruto: It doesn’t matter! It’s a west sider!
Hinata from behind them, joins in.
Hinata: Ew a west sider.
Naruto, turning around: You got that r-
Hinata a carbon copy of the guy they were mocking.
Naruto: AH!!! They got us from behind!
Hinata blushes: Naruto-kun
Naruto: Oh, it’s just you Hinata.
They don’t know each other at this point, Sasuke and Sakura look bamboozled at their interaction.
Hinata is going to therapy for this because her parents are worried and she just wants a break from the whole past life stuff.
Hinata sighs to herself: Not again
Hinata walks off towards where Neji is and leaves Naruto in her wake.
Naruto’s motto: We are here to cause some ruckus, then DIP!!!

Nuzlocke Shield Final Part
Part Six
Time to get the road to Challenge Cup finished. Of course, gotta have another cut scene with Hop to slow everything down again. I turned major cut scenes off so I can skip all the train boringness and get right to the snowy Route 10.
Let's get the encounter out of the way, and it's everyone's favourite bug Snom
Snocaine - Snom (m) Shield Dust Brave (Spd up / Atk down) “It likes to fight!”
I don’t have the will or inclination to get Snom's happiness up to evolve it at this point in the game, so it's going into a box until I can sell it off to a drug lord.
This route is so short and so boring.
Wyndon is awesome, but like all the cities and towns before it, it's so EMPTY. There's only a handful of buildings you can go in and one or two streets. In Pokemon games gone you could go into every house, but there's just nothing of interest here. A giant pokemart would not go amiss.
Changed my hair. Gotta look flash for the championship.
Vs Marnie
Marnie was easy, even though her Toxicroak went for a Swagger and Sucker Punch combo that nearly knocked out Cyanide.
Point of interest, you can leave via the lift in between matches. And you can also set up a camp. Why? Who knows. Programming oversight no doubt.
Vs Hop
Hop is still as annoying as ever, “I knew you'd use a super effective attack!” Well no shit Sherlock, it's only the fundamental basics of Pokemon battling.
Fucking Body Slam Dubwool paralysis hax!
And a Full Restore, the dirty fucker. Two can play at that game.
I swear to god, he paralysed me as soon as I cured it. At least he's causing Stamina to increase the damage of Body Press, his ultimate downfall.
Snorlax eats a Body Press and went down in one. So does Corviknight. Pincurchin and Earthquake don’t mix. Now I’m past the cheating Dubwool, I’m not even getting paralysed. That said, I swap out Bullseye for Pina Colada to face his Inteleon. God I hate Inteleon's design. I hate all the final start forms.
Dancing Pineapple Kappa 1 - 0 Skinny Emo Gecko
Ugh. Bring back the Elite Four. All this running around mini Team Yell guess who nonsense takes you away from the drama of the final challenge. Just. So. Many. Cut. Scenes. To. Stop. And. Button. Mash. Through!
Also, why does the game just suddenly drop the name Macro Cosmo out of nowhere? It's never mentioned in any dialogue yet we're expected to know it's the name of Rose's company? I guess it's meant to invoke the feeling of an evil team name, since Team Yell have suddenly joined you and there's now a protagonist shaped hole in the game.
“Security footage released by Macro Cosmo show champion semi finalists James and Hop causing chaos with recently eliminated challenger Marnie and brother Piers whilst accompanied by known trouble makers Team Yell. After causing a stampede that endangered the lives of many at the monorail station, the two stormed Rose Tower for no apparent reason. Because of this outlandish and un-sportsmanship behaviour, the two have been disqualified from the championship and black listed from ever taking part in the future. Up next... Curry. Can we find anything else to eat?”
Anyway. The tower and Oleana are nothing to worry about.
I really wish I could have found a better Ice TM or TR than Icy Wind before going into the final battle. None of the Watt Traders have Ice beam and there's not a single Ice type raid battle going on anywhere.
Bede was a push over, as usual.
Why do they have this cool tournament set up, but never randomise it? It's always Nessa, Alistair/Bea and Raihan. Never anyone else. Just once I'd like to re-battle a full team from Milo or Kabu. I know you have a chance to do it in rematches post game, but by that point your so highly levelled that’s there's absolutely zero challenge. Mini rant over.
Vs Nessa
Spritz drops a Sticky Web to slow Nessa's Pokemon down then systematically obliterates each one with a thunderbolt.
Vs Alistair - Chamomile endures a hit which triggers Weak Armor, gets off a Nasty Plot and with a Full Restore in the mix gets rid of all the pesky ghosts. I was a little worried, as I don’t have any Pokemon that resist ghost attacks but it turned out fine in the end.
Vs Raihan
Bullseye weathers a super effective Muddy Water from Goodra, then just like his team mates defeats everything with single attacks.
So glad I turned cut scenes off.
Mum is outside your house like “Ok sweetie, you and your friend go into the dangerous woods to search for an ancient Pokémon and then go stop the leader of the country from restarting the apocalypse. Do you want some cookies? You're such a strong Pokemon trainer.” No wonder all the kids are missing parents it's a wonder anyone survives.
There's meant to be a giant black cloud over Hammerlocke, but I flew in and whilst the music has changed, nothing else has. It's dark in the middle of the day, but all the people are still standing around chatting shit. I guess the developers thought everyone would go straight into the Weald instead of doubling back. Poor show.
I get an encounter in the Slumbering Weald, and first off it's a Corviknight. Been so long since I encountered this line, but it's still a dupe. Then I KO'd a Munna. I really don’t think it matters anymore, I only have two major battles to go before the end of the game.
Cut scene. Run forward a bit. Cut scene. Run forward a bit. Cut scene. Run forward a bit. Still need my hand held at this point in the game. Frankly I’m surprise Hop doesn’t decide he wants another battle at this point.
“We've evacuated Hammerlocke. Except the people inside their houses, they have chosen to stay. Something about trusting their chairman no matter what he does. Spooky huh?”
Cut scene. Run forward a bit. Cut scene.
Vs Rose - Otis. Fire attacks.
Cut scene. Run forward. Cut scene. Run forward. Cut scene. There is just NO let up.
Did the undefeated Champion just try to catch a resurrected legendary Pokemon in a basic Pokeball?
Bullseye gets a crit Earthquake and knocks Eternatus out in one go.
GMax Eternatus is impressive. Hats off to the designers here, it looks terrifying. The first and only time in the game where something feels like a threat.
And Hop helps out with his Dubwool again. Super helpful.
Cyanide falls in battle, as Eternatus focuses all its attacks on me and Hop helps by using the least effective move he has and doing almost no damage at all. A toast to Slowbro.
Cyanide is KO'd.
I take Jett out of storage, ram as many XP candies as I can down her throat and head in to fight Leon.
Vs Leon - Finally.
Otis knocks out Aegislash with two Fire Lashes
Haxorus is a bit of a tough one, as the only SE attack I have for a dragon is Icy wind on PC. Bullseye survives an Outrage but only does half damage with Earthquake, and switching to Jett almost gets her taken out in one hit. Two hits, she's gone. I bring Bullseye back in and spam some Potions, maybe I can get a free shot in once the Stamina starts to kick in. This isn’t what the crowd want to see but, but I just saved the world so fuck em.
Jett is KO'd
Yep, it takes a minute or two, but once I have 3 Stamina boosts I can Body Press the fuck out of this dragon.
Seismitoad starts off with Toxic, which was a wasted move. Leon uses a Full Restore, so I will too. I’m going to Body Press to victory.
Cinderace meet Body Press.
Fuck, I can’t use Body Press on Dragapault. Chamomile lands two Sucker Punches but gets knocked out a second Shadow Ball. Spritz survives a Flamethrower but isn’t strong enough or fast enough to land a second hit. Pina swaps in to take the Flame Thrower AND a Shadow Ball then KOs Dragapault with Icy Wind. I guess it did come in useful after all.
Chamomile is KO'd
I know Charizard will be faster than me, I just have to hope I can survive long enough to do damage to it. I send out Otis first, who can at least absorb fire attacks and has an electric attack to use. Max Rockfall almost KOs me but Max Lightning does half damage. I use a Full Restore, and I think between the sandstorm damage to Zara and the up boost from my leftovers another Max Lightning will seal the deal.
Yaaaaaas!
Ya boi is the Champion.
I’m not playing Pokemon again until Crown Tundra comes out this was a chore.
The band that plays during the credits, the least they could have done is used some custom animation that didn’t look like they were attacking, and made the music sound like it was being played. There's no drum beat.
Final Team

Castlevania the Rookidee - Torn apart by a cute mole
HaagenDazs the Vanillite - Murdered in an act of revenge by a smelly frog
Ddraig the Druddigon - Speared by a selfish shellfish
Cyanide the Slowbro - Smote by a god

Thanks for anyone that has been following along. Maybe one day I’ll do another playthrough. Hopefully we’ll see Diamond and Pearl remakes, and I would love to do a mono-type playthrough at some point. Not a Nuzlocke though, as interesting as it is, the restrictions irritate me.
Shameless Plug - Please follow @wales-dex for my fakemon.

Lou and Cas: aka lesbian caretaker and her pure of heart dumb of ass best friend
Wanted to try out some boxboy stuff, so have some new characters and some caretaker shenanagins! Hurt/Comfort, nightmares, all that jazz. Not many Content Warnings other than past kidnapping and conditioning
Lou finds him on the roof again. It's late at night, late enough to be considered morning, but she doesn’t care. Actual mornings aren't a thing she gets around to seeing very often. Her mornings start at around one pm, and days consist of homework filled evenings and midnight Netflix binges. Cas is big on sunrises though; he likes to get up early to watch them.
“Isn’t it pretty?” he had asked her, voice a little breathless, on the one occasion he had managed to get her up at seven o’clock in the goddamn morning to join him. Lou had looked at him, the sunlit freckles on his face, his small and easy smile, the softening around his dark brows that were always so bunched up with worry. “Yeah man,” she said, feeling a soft smile of her own tug at her lips, “Real pretty.”
He should be sleeping now. Lou is always trying to gently bully him into getting more than three hours a night, and while he always nods along to her rants with his look at me I’m listening face, he also always slips out of bed every night to wander the halls like some sort of victorian ghost. Luckily, their rooms were right next to each other and, though he’s always careful and quiet, his door hasn't been oiled in years and sounds like a dying possum. Tonight, when she hears the tell-tale squeaking, she sighs, pauses her episode of Pokemon: Advanced Challenge, and heads straight to the roof.
“Sir, this is private property,” Lou says, leaning out the window, feeling the cool breeze through her tank top. “Trespassers pay a fine. The fine is going the fuck to bed, so, chop chop.”
“Thought you said I can’t trespass here,” Cas replies, turning his face ever so slightly towards her with a hint of a guilty smile. He’s sitting at the edge of the roof, too close, with his knees pulled up to his chest and his toes almost sticking out over the ledge. “Didn’t you tell me I could go anywhere in the house?” Lou snorts, pushing her torso through the window’s frame and wriggling her way outside.
“Yeah, and I also told you I’m gonna look out for you, so could you stop making my job so hard? At least give me a raise.”
“I didn’t know I was paying you.”
“Well you’re not, so you’re actually millions of dollars indebted to me.”
“Whoops.” His voice has died down to a mumble, now that he’s turned around and pressed his face into the soft arms of his sweatshirt. Lou sighs, because she knows this mood. She scooches her way down the gentle incline of the roof until her toes are almost in line with his. Goosebumps raise up on her bare shoulders, both from the chill and the view. It’s beautiful; from up here she can see all of her mom’s garden laid out like a paint, the small creek winding through the flower patches. Brilliant blooms of red and yellow, muted in the moonlight and so, so very small from up here. She inches her toes another half inch away from the edge.
“So,” she says into the open air, “Are you gonna tell me what’s wrong?” Cas shrugs a bit, shoulders covering the tips of his ears that have gone red from the chill.
“‘m okay,” he mumbles, in a decidedly not-okay fashion. Lou slides her hand a little closer to him, hoping that he’ll take the hint, and he does, unburying his face from his arms so he can place his palm next to hers. Never on top, he can never bring himself to fully initiate, so she’s the one who laces their fingers together and squeezes.
“Did you dream about him again?” She knows the answer before he nods, knows the spike of anger and sadness that rises within her every time. “That motherfucker.”
“Don't call him that.”
“Cas, he’s a motherfucker. He was assigned motherfucker at birth. The doctor took one look at him and said ‘ah yes, a motherfucker, send my condolences to the parents and any other poor soul who comes across him.’” Cas looks at her, laughing a bit, and now she can see the red in his eyes. She doesn’t comment on it; he hates letting people see him cry. The other guy liked it too much. When Cas (although he hadn’t named himself ‘Cas’ yet) first came here, shivering from rain and bundled up in her mom’s coat, he had been sobbing. Big heaving cries, the kind that used up all the air your lungs had to offer. He hadn’t stopped, for weeks. All it took was one wrong look, one harsh tone, and his eyes would start to blur with tears. I kind of envy you, Lou had told him, when she first found him hiding out in his closet, tears streaming silently down his cheeks. I never cry. Even when I feel like it. Shit just builds up inside me, you know? Cas had given her a weak, bitter smile. I never feel like it, he said, I just can’t turn it off.
“He was holding me,” Cas says suddenly. He’s staring into the garden, eyes glassy and unfocused. “In the dream. He was holding me, so fucking close, and telling me that it’s okay because none of this life is real. That you and this house and everything else isn’t real. I never left. I was still there with him and-” He breaks off, swallowing, and Lou squeezes his hand so tight.
“Hey, I’m real. I’m right here baby.” Cas gives her a quick, sad smile.
“I know, it’s just...” He fades off, face clouding, before smiling again against the tears that build up in his eyes, wide and miserable. “For a little bit I believed him, after I woke up, and I was so relieved. I wanted it to be true.”
There’s a pressure in Lou’s chest that builds and builds and builds. It feels so tight, and so heavy, and she knows from experience that no matter what she does, it will not go away. Cas is kind. He’s funny; he’s got a whip-smart wit. He has a lopsided grin, and he snorts when he laughs, and she likes him so much. And there is someone out there who took all of that and buried it under a mountain of pain and factory made responses. A tilted head, an airy smile, empty eyes with not a hint of defiance. Lou wants to wrap him up in her arms and place him inside of her heart where nothing can touch him, to take away everything bad that has ever happened to him and burn it to ashes, but she can’t. She can excavate him though. She can dig around the planted thoughts in his head and unbury her best friend.
“Make me not want to go back. Please make me not want to go back,” he whispers, eyes bright and glittering as they stare pleadingly into hers.
“I will,” Lou says, staring back with as much confidence as she can muster, and wishes that she could cry.

Nobunightmares (Romani, Nobunaga, Gudako)
They were overfilling the room.
He couldn’t get them to stop shouting their name. It was like a strange and loud pokemon game that he couldn’t find the volume button for. Amongst the masses, he could see a figure raising above the rest. Her black hair drifted in the wind. Her coat flared around her hips and drifted with her hair as she held her gun in hand.
The world had gone to darkness in the midst of this leader’s rise to power.
There was no other servants or Gudako around.
There was just a massive collection of the woman in her chubby faced and cute height form. All of them were toting their weapons.
And the chant.
It echoed in his head like the pounding of a thousand drums.
Some were marching around their leader. Some were scampering to be the ground beneath her boots. All of them echoed the word. Time after time after time.
“Nobu.”
“Nobu.”
“Nobu.”
Was this what hell was like?
Was this eternal damnation that all his priests had ranted and raved about, warning him time and time again to make good choices?
No demon he’d ever encountered had been half this bad.
“Nobu.”
“Nobu.”
The woman above them all laughed hysterically, looking down upon him and all her clone subjects. The fire in her eyes built an icy hole in his soul.
“BEHOLD! THE GREAT AND MIGHTY NOBUNAGA!”
The clones cheered.
Romani found himself sitting up, screaming.
“Romani!”
Gudako was moving to sit up, cupping his face in her hands and staring at him.
“Romani, what’s wrong?”
He pressed himself against her chest, hugging her tightly.
“I need to take tomorrow off,” he murmured.
“Are you sure?”
The Master of Chaldea was stroking his hair gently.
“Can I help?”
“Just hold me a bit,” he whispered.
Just take the Nobus away.

SWORD AND SHIELD THOUGHTS
Alright, just finished the main game/post-game of Sword and Shield ,and I have... thoughts, general impressions, and feelings about the game. I’m going to try and be spoiler-free, but some things will have to be talked about, and though it might be indirect, no promises. Here’s my thoughts on the game overall...
First off, It’s Pokemon. I’m not going to discuss the parts of it where it’s Pokemon. At this point, you should know whether or not you like Pokemon, and if you DON’T know... start with FireRed and LeafGreen. Still the best gameplay experience.
Graphics are... meh. I understand and accept that they’re really not up to the standard of other Switch games, but you’ve got 400 pokemon, lots of people, locations, etcetera. Battle Animations continue to be pretty weak for the most part, with pokemon mostly wiggling around and a special effect showing up. Nasty Plot’s animation is offensively bad in this regard. Sure, some moves look cool, especially ones unique to individual Pokemon, but this game’s visual advances still result in mostly-static battles where your pokemon doesn’t even move across the screen to use melee attacks. You know how in old Final Fantasy games you rush to the enemy before doing your generic sword swing? Can’t we at least have that?
The new Pokemon are bitching. Sure, there’s winners and losers, but overall I love Galar’s lineup. There’s new type combos, interesting abilities, a lot of cool designs.
Dynamax is... just not interesting. The idea of giant pokemon are cool, but when you actually use them they replace your cool, interesting moves with heavy-hitting moves that have minor secondaries that are hard to leverage. My best pokemon at the end was a Wishiwashi that knew Aqua Ring and Dive, so my battles involved doing the former, and then Diving, so with Aqua Ring + Leftovers I’d be healing a huge portion of my HP between every attack... In Dynamax, Dive turns into a heavy hitting water move, Aqua Ring turns into Protect, and it doesn’t even last long enough for a tank-build to work. In the gym battles the right answer is basically always “Dynamax when your opponent does so you don’t get one-shot”, and in Raids it’s just “Dynamax when you can.”  Gigantimax is a cool idea, too, but... you just don’t get to do it. You get a Charmander that can eventually do it for free in the post-game, but he’s a baby and your pokemon at that point are level 70+ and you probably already have a fire type who loves you so there’s no reason to train him up.
On Difficulty: I played a Nuzlocke with no items in battle, so I can’t really speak to difficulty normally but... camping makes healing you party super cheap, and every dungeon and challenge seems shorter than in most games. I only remember one real cave system and it was relatively short, and gyms all seem to have exactly three trainers (or three pairs of double-battle trainers) before the leader. Further, enemies always ask if you’re ready instead of ambushing you, and many will give you a full heal before or after the battle. I had some challenges against gym leaders, sure, and I did wind up losing the Nuzlocke to the final fight against the ‘big bad’ (and then just continued in non-nuzlocke method) but I never hit one of those points like a Rock Tunnel or even one of Alola’s Trials where I felt like the encounters on the way to the boss were really whittling down my resources.
Quality of life: Infinite Escape Ropes and free Fly make Krenko a happy gobbo. Except I never used the escape rope because there’s nothing to escape. Other basic QOL stuff is updated, too- moves are marked with effectiveness once you’ve seen a Pokemon before and presumably know it’s types, the menu felt very comfortable overall (though with all the different types of items I’m starting to think the bag needs MORE pockets), and the hotbutton to pokeball in an encounter is great. Having an EXP ALL as a core mechanic makes leveling up pokemon so much easier. There’s now a name rater and move-rememberer in every pokemon center, and I use that guy so much. Any time I newly catch or evolve a pokemon, I take it right to him to see what else it can get.
Dynamax raids I... didn’t do much of. Because the difficulty of the ones that show up apparently increases with the story or something. The first few I encountered I could handle with my pokemon at the time, but now that I’ve beaten the champion, it feels like every raid location I see is five stars and I need pokemon higher than the level 70+s I have to handle it. It doesn’t help that the NPCs they summon to help you are incompetent. Sure, a few have useful abilities, but why is there a level 49 Magikarp, and why doesn’t this Solrock seem to know any attacks, and what even is this Wobuffet doing here?
Story:  Story is easily the weakest part of Sword and Shield. The story is both boring and too exciting for the game itself. The characters are both too cool and too bland. In the ‘main story’ where previous pokemon games have it, you are doing the gym challenge. This is fine. This is normal. There’s some cool stuff in there that makes it more of a proper sport than just a kid wandering around. You ocassionally have encounters with Team Yell who are trying to stop you, but... Team Yell is never threatening, they don’t accomplish anything, and the game seems to be very inconsistent on whether or not you have to accept that they’re in the way or if you can just kick their butt. When you finally get their super secret origin story, it’s... fine, and I like it, but I’d have liked it more if they had literally any impact on the game. The worst thing is, they compare unfavorably to Team Skull. Team Skull had strong leadership, and though you kicked their butts, they were regularly in the way and up to no good. Also, Guzma was awesome. Team Yell is just... running around being a general nuisance. Which would be fine if there was another real villain but...
Well, it turns out there IS another real, main villain... Who you don’t have reason to believe is a villain until after you’ve beaten all eight gyms, whose plot and motivation makes no sense, who has no convictions, and who you as a character have no real relation to. I literally don’t understand why this character was doing villainy.  And their evil team you only fight in the handful of battles immediately leading up to the big fight, and they make absolutely no impact other than standing in your way for reasons that you don’t really understand. That whole segment had nothing to do with anything, wasn’t properly built up, and didn’t feel like it went anywhere except the game handing me a Legendary pokemon.
Then there’s the post-game villains, who are... eh. They’re a lot more interesting, and I’m not even sure it’s fair to call them post-game. Unlike in most pokemon games, once you become champion the plot doesn’t just stop or say “now go to the challenge areas.” Instead, you have another, shorter storyline where you revisit all the old characters (who are all really cool on the surface and have NO DEPTH so you can’t get attached to them) and deal with stuff involving more dynamaxing and the box-art legendaries. This isn’t the worst plot, but it again suffers from no dungeons. You just fly from Gym to Gym having one fight at each gym. The game wants you to get to know and appreciate each Gym Leader, but because there’s so many of them, plus three rivals, plus the Champion, plus two professors, plus a handful of other NPCs, even the one that spends a fair deal of time with you in the post game never gets any real development. Here’s a key for story-writers: If your character’s not going to develop over the story, you don’t need to make a point of them showing up four different times. I don’t feel more connected to Nessa than I do to Flannery because she kept showing up and I got a card detailing her backstory. I just feel like you could’ve let me play faster instead of waiting for cutscenes.
I could rant about the story for a long time, but the point is: It’s bad. And the worst part is, there’s a bunch of cool stuff that seems to happen... that I don’t get to see.
So, my BIGGEST, absolutely most major complaint about the story is that two of the characters closest to you, Hop and Leon, do all sorts of really cool and interesting stuff... just offscreen. Hop is your main ‘rival’ and best friend, and he’s sharing in your adventures but also has some of his own. He has battles, he has a character arc, he starts really annoying but grew on me over time and I genuinely like him... But it’s hard to feel attached because all his formative stuff happens just off-screen. This isn’t a ‘Blue’ situation where he’s doing the stuff you are but faster and getting in your way, and you want to smush his stupid face in. This certainly isn’t like Hau who was just one step behind you the whole time. Hop has a couple battles that he talks about that alter who he is as a person that you don’t get to see because the game decides you don’t watch them. You’re not racing this guy- you hang out all the time- but for some reason you don’t get to watch his fights. I understand it’d be boring if they forced it and it played out like a normal fight, but give me a cutscene! Hell, I wanna know who he faced at the end! Hop has a mystery battle against someone else who completed all eight gyms that he beats and we never find out anything else about this person...
But it’s even worse with Leon.
See, a big part of the game’s storyline is giant, Dynamax pokemon running amok and the Champion having to stop them. This means for the FIRST portion of the game, Leon is going out doing heroic things, battling giant pokemon that you never see. Sure, you can dynamax battle, but he’s involved in all these cool, great, crazy adventures... just offscreen. And then when you become the champion, YOU get to fight these rampaging dynamax pokemon... ... by walking to the area you’re told they are and immediately showing up in a dynamax fight. The game has models for pokemon walking around the overworld. Pokemon all have various attack animations. If Dynamax pokemon are running wild, can’t you SHOW me them running wild? There’s so many ‘cool things’ that happen in the game that I just don’t get to see, even when my character should be able to watch them, and it’s annoying as hell. If you can’t SHOW ME rampaging giant pokemon, don’t make the story ABOUT rampaging giant pokemon!
....Okay, done talking about story.
THE WILD AREA is a cool idea with poor implementation. I absolutely love this big area with all sorts of pokemon that change with the weather and different sections having different levels, except the wild area only really connects two locations (you get there via train the first time,) so there’s not much in-game reason to go back except for grinding, it’s small enough that it’s mostly the same terrain, and the level progression of the area doesn’t really match where you are in the game in the way just having routes used to. Also, for some stupid reason once you’re champion everything there suddenly becomes level 60 instead of scaling to different areas.  Which, sure, I get it, for post-game stuff people just want higher level Pokemon, but it’s so weird that suddenly there’s level 60 zigzagoon running around.  The Wild Area would have been much cooler if they’d just done away with traditional routes entirely and had free wilderness between EVERY town- blocked off in part by tunnels and forests which still counted as wild area, sure, but not gated by ‘you must have this many badges to progress.’  Just gated by ‘the pokemon here are level 30, are you sure you want to proceed?’ The only reason the game forces you to face the gyms in a certain order is to lock you into a narrative that’s mostly a waste of time. Not being allowed to catch ‘very strong’ pokemon is dumb, too. You could’ve made us able to catch them and just not train them because they’d do things like go to sleep and use the wrong moves and loaf around like a traded pokemon.
Camping with your Pokemon is cute, but needs more variety. There’s like seven toys, but only one of them isn’t a ball you throw and they fetch. You can make curries, and you will because it’s the cheapest way to heal your pokemon on the go, but the curry minigame is identical every team and gets very boring very quickly. You can talk to your Pokemon, but none of their responses have any meaning or impact or anything at all. It’s not like they’ll give you hints in the game or randomly give you items or ask for specific items for huge happiness boosts or whatever. It’s cute, and they get experience from it, but camping feels like it should’ve been expanded a whole lot.
....In summation: Pokemon Sword and Shield is not one of the better Pokemon Games. It’s still Pokemon, and if you’re into that, there’s still plenty of fun to be had in it, but it’s heavily flawed.

Ohhh, I lost a follower. Good note to start this off at. So! Anyways!!
I’ve vented a LOT about this in private...and I feel like maybe the reason why this keeps bothering me is because I never air it out where it’s been needed. I have never said my piece because, while I have a stance, I’ve been more afraid (in the past) of blacklash and how people would think of me. Which is dumb, I realize now, because people I don’t even KNOW have a way of thinking of me that isn’t good. So what’s the point in trying to care about stuff like that?
This is a long-winded way of saying that- although belated- I want to give my thoughts on the Age Discourse. (With potential ties to the Villain Discourse, but that’s only gonna make sense later into the post.)
Obviously, feel free not to read! I know that this community is done of the Discourse and I would like to be, too.....but I’ve also vented about this multiple times in my own server and I feel like if I need to vent about it again, maybe it’s time I do it in the place that’s been causing the stress in the first place.
With all that said, let’s get into it.
By Law of Canon, I have young F/Os. Most of which stopped at 17, due to series ending or no promised continuation ever coming to light. (Since some series, like DanganRonpa, had their main focus be high schoolers, but then Dangan Ronpa: Hope (the anime) came out, and everyone’s now canonly in their twenties to wrap up the series and move on to other things, same formula. Also: Naruto and Death Note.) This makes sense on the media side of it, since sometimes, you really don’t want to drag your shoes through all the nitty-gritty details. Who wants to hear about the whacky MC high schooler finding a day to day job? Afterstories? Psssshh.
....But then, there’s me. This little autistic kid who puts all their stakes into these fictional worlds and people. Who REALLY gets into it! This character likes me, these characters are my BFFs, and the rest.... Well, I’m just gonna take this world and make my own little story in it! Cause it’s fun!!! And in the eyes of fandom- at that time- I was totally weird, but made it okay. I got the right friends to support my self-inserting. Hell, it’s probably kinda cute for a kid to be so excited about this stuff.
Now I’m in my twenties. I made it far enough to find the community...and learned that most people agree that if your F/O is age locked, you should leave them behind. And I suppose that makes sense...if you can do that. If you can let go of those feelings and move along, happy at past memories.
......I can’t, though. Kurama’s always been my best example for this, cause he’s been the BEST showing of how my worlds have evolved past canon. His canon stopped him at 17. (Yoko is far older, but. Still, his physical body is young.)
I’ve had Kurama as an F/O for....about 12-13 years, maybe? Which might seem pretty young, but I’ve had.......childhood issues, to put it one way. A friend got me into the show in.....around middle school or so. I liked Kurama ever since.
In all these years I’ve had him, he’s strayed from canon’s end point. In my world, we age-match, if not him being a year or two older. Two kids and a house all our own; basically a large cottage with PLENTY of flowers and a lovely garden. There’s also a special greenhouse for his demon plants to take residence in.
I am not a “pedo in love with a 17 year old”......it’s a fictional character who’s my age. Cause I said so and canon wouldn’t let him EXIST past the ending of the manga.
And that’s what frustrates me so much. One, that my F/Os who canonly have a younger age, were never shown older. Why is it okay to have Naruto Uzumaki as an F/O- who GOT to age up in the show- but I can’t keep Alphonse, because FMA ended when Ed was 18, and not Alphonse? When his canon story ended....why is it suddenly not allowed for ME to finish his story? To keep writing it?
Secondly, because THIS AGE ISSUE HAS NEVER BEEN AN ISSUE IN FANDOM BEFORE!!!! Of all the fanfics I’ve read over the years, writing characters as older for story purposes has ALWAYS been a thing!! This character is older so he can be the CEO of a company in my AU fic. This character is older so I can show their friendships and relationships, and show how they changed after this important, canon events. I wrote her as older so I can show........whatever.
I could write a fic where me and Guzma are Pokemon, and nobody would have a problem with it. But no..... If I age up a character, I’m a pedo.
And I get what it’s supposed to be...don’t look at a kid, think they’re hot, and then fall back on “age up” as a thing. I get that idea, cause if an adult aged up Deku to ship with.......I’d be side-eyeing that. I fully admit to that one. My point is “how does this account for people who just want to grow up with their F/Os?”
Maybe it’s more nuanced than that and I don’t get it; it wouldn’t be the first time. (I mentioned autism offhand before cause I NEED people to understand that I’m seeking to understand this. I don’t get the connection. I really, really don’t. Maybe there’s something I’m missing! I wouldn’t know!) But as it stands, I just feel frustrated and all too often alienated. Because I know why I do what I do. It’s because of how I was growing up. I went through awful situations and went through emotional abuse at a super young age. I let people walk all over me and thought it was okay, because maybe they’d stay if I was enough. Nice enough, quiet enough....whatever.
I didn’t- and don’t- want to let these characters go not only for the life I’ve built for us and all of them......but because people have continuously left my life. I’ve always felt so, so alone and left behind... Fictional characters are the ONE constant that can’t be taken from me. And I need that.
....Anyways, I did want to tie this back around to the Villain Discourse, so as a sort of weird closure..... I see this as the VD. My example? Purple Guy. For some reason, I like him. Couldn’t properly explain it right now (not without going on another rant and this post is long enough as is), but I like him.
HOWEVER this does NOT mean I condone his actions in any way. I do NOT support child murder. I have siblings- little kids, themselves- and I know, if he was a real person, that they could be at risk. And I would LOATHE someone like that. They’d make me fucking sick.
But it’s a fictional character. He’s not going to hurt any real-world people. My sisters are safe...and I can goof around with a fictional, literally purple man as I want. Because I know where reality and fiction differs. I KNOW that there’s a difference between condoning actions and just simply thinking a character is neat. And that’s that.

Game Lysandre is one of the most poorly done characters and is only loved due to ship potential, and the incredible work the fans have done especially those who watch the anime in bringing the good points of his character to light.
First I want to clarify that some of this lies on the games too. Mechanically X&Y were fun games, story wise they were an utter mess. I’m convinced something happened during the production of this game but that’s another rant. But yeah some of this isn’t on Lys because the games he was in also poorly handled story.
But focusing on him his motivations and goals were an utter mess. When I play through a pokemon game the villain’s reasoning and story are usually something that develops with the story. Also they can be summed up kind of like the way Inigo Montoya sums up his character motivations.
Giovanni: “hi my name is Giovanni I want Mewtwo to basically control the word mafia style. try to stop me.”
Maxie/Archie: “hi my name is Maxie/Archie I want to make more land/make more water because I think it will help the world. Also I don’t understand consequences or the environment.”
You get the point.
In the games of X&Y every time we see Lysandre he seems to be angrily ranting to one of his friends and ends up feeling like that one guy in the friend group that’s normally cool, but sometimes goes into this weird theorist shiz that no one asked for and everyone just kind of tolerates. And his motivations kind of wind and twist in such a weird way it’s really difficult to pin point what he’s doing and why it just seems mismatched as frick. Seriously to sum up his Inigo Montoya line it’d goLysandre: Hi I’m Lysandre, I wish there was a way to help everyone in the world due to a lacking degree of resources, but ya know also only those who can pay into my club are allowed to live. Oh I forgot pokemon have to die, I know that didn’t happen originally when this machine was fired, but like that has to happen this time around. By the way I kidnapped this guy, mind pressing this button to see if the machine fires or not? Just do it, and no I’m not going to explain why or how this relates to my character at all.
And yet the anime version of him has a clear plan, explains said plan well, and his motivations are made much more clear. Like he has a genuine flashback to explain this shiz, and he grows with all of the characters on screen so that his motivations are compelling. the other sad thing is I only say about 40 minutes of the anime cause I wanted to see how they handled him and in 20 I understood Lysandre’s character far more than I did after playing all of X&Y
Now if we do the ingot Montoya line to this Lysandre
Lysandre: “Hi I’m Lysandre I used to have faith in humanity till I realized I was being conned out of my money by many of the people I was giving money to as charity, and now I’ve decided to write off a majority of humanity. I plan on using mass murder to do so.”
